Welcome back to The Toast. And happy Friday, a cause to celebrate, except for the fact that the virus had been meaning, literally meaning to throw hands with, has now infiltrated my fucking sister. And not only has it infiltrated my fucking sister, it's infiltrated my sister's fucking ability to do her job. So it's infiltrated the toast. Here to for, it has infiltrated me. And today's episode, Jackie is such a trooper, still showing up for work. It is audio only. She looks so cute in her pajamas. But hey, Jax, how you durn?

Hey, turd. I've been better. I think this is the sickest I've ever podcast. We'll see how it goes. I hope I can speak without choking, and I hope that I can have a personality. These are the first words I'm uttering today.

I've got it down. Actually, there was so much going on in the world last night with NFL honors and then Craig on Watch What Happens Live. I have a lot to say. I don't want you to worry. I want you to speak, of course, when you feel comfortable. But I just want you to know, I got you.

Thank you so much. I know I watched Southern Charm last night, and Craig was on Watch What Happens Live. I watched all of it. To not come on and discuss when we've been waiting for these sorts of answers You had to, sorry. He was being so open.

Well, I didn't really put together that this was his first real sit down interview and that it was going to be Watch What Happens Live, not a one on one. I'm sorry. If there ever was a time for a person to have a one on one, it was Craig on Watch What Happens Live, because it actually felt bad for the other girl. I don't even know who she is. Is she from Southern Charm?

Maddie from Southern Hospitality, which is Love's spinoff show. Considering everyone was there for Craig, I actually thought she did really well and was a good advertisement for Southern Hospitality, which I don't watch and I won't watch, but I'm closer to watching it than ever before.

Yeah, and her having the chair next to Andy, the whole thing was a little weird. Do you agree?

I just feel like that was respect for women.

I thought it was respect for the fact that if she wasn't in the first chair, she would not have been a part of the episode because it was the Craig Show.

I think that they have this unwritten rule when it's a man and a woman, that the woman would sit in that chair.

Oh, that's really interesting. I think it's more like, there's so many different factors. For this particular girl, usually, if it's two celebrities or Bravo leberties of equal value. The closer to Andy is the person who's a little bit more famous. But with Craig, I actually really feel like if they were going to have a second person there, especially somebody who's on a news show, she really would have gotten left behind the whole episode if she was on the second chair, it just would have been Andy. I think for the sake of literally keeping Being her involved in the conversation, she had to be in the middle.

Yeah, but shockingly, Andy is into Southern hospitality. When they were talking about her show, and I don't know any of these people, and I don't know the storyline. I haven't had that experience in so long that they were literally speaking Chinese. I don't know anyone. It's not even a housewives that I've fallen off with. I see it on social media. I just was watching two different shows.

Yeah, that's actually really funny. I feel like Andy really, well, him or his producer, really his homework because there's been a lot of internet lour.

He asked every question. We've even been itching, like Rachel Cercannell.

Yeah, but he was... Oh, yeah. That. But I mean in terms of the actual nitty-gritty of Page and Craig, so many internet theories and different points of view on team Page. I feel like he really hit all the points that the internet would have wanted. I feel like he wasn't going to flop at this moment because so many times, there's a big thing happening on Watch Up and Side. Andy doesn't understand the cultural impact because it's so chronically online. But I think he really understood and he had good questions, and I think he did a very good job.

I also feel like Andy feels like Paige and Craig owe him and the network the truth and that nothing is off limits because they are both network stars. They have benefited so much from their relationship and the network, even at the end of Southern Charm, which I'll recap at the end of the show because I know not everyone watches. But they did a preview for the rest of the season, and they film the post-breakup, it looks like, because everyone's in their winter sweaters. Meanwhile, this is happening in spring, so everyone's in winter. Craig and Austin and Shep are sitting down. He's saying how he bought a ring, and he's devastated. They picked cameras back up, which on the one hand is invasive, but on the other hand, that's what these two signed up for.

Yeah. Okay, so we'll get into that. That's obviously a whole story, and it was the NFL honors last night. Just lots to discuss. I want you to just feel comfortable. Take me a back seat. I know you don't usually do that. I want you to know it's okay to not be okay.

I feel a little better just talking. My head feels like a million pounds I got fever in the night. Yesterday, I didn't have a fever. I just had body aches and chills, and I thought that that would be the worst of it. But no, today is far worse. And it's the flu because that's what's been going around. Something about having a fever- If I had to put a label on it.

We're so not into labels here at The Toast. Something about having a fever really makes you feel like a kid. What grown adult gets a fever?

No, I know. I'm lying in bed and I'm like, after taking care of Harry and Charlie all week, I was like, who's going to take care of me?

Who's going to wrap my head? It's insane. That's actually a really fucking depressing moment in your life where you realize the person taking care of you. Because I feel like I'm at the stage where if I'm sick, Ben's going to take care of me. But once we, God willing, have children, that's no longer... The hierarchy has shifted.

Yeah, Zack was off with them as he should be. Because I'm just grateful to get time alone. Of course. Then I'm like, Who's going to order me soup or, God forbid, cook it.

It's sick and twisted when you think about it.

It makes me upset. What they say you've got to put on your oxygen mask before anyone else.

Before assisting others. I love that. It's so true, by the way.

I mean, it's literally the law.

No, but as a metaphor, it's true. I can't help you if I can't even help myself.

Sometimes. Sometimes you got to spend yourself in and just get it done, and we'll deal with my oxygen at the end of the day.

I love a phrase or a motto that encourages selfishness. Yes. I'm going to use it.

Yeah. No, people love that one, especially in the mama community, mama reels.

Speaking of mamas. Shannon.

Shannon. It's just like when you've already known.

Yeah, not to be annoying. We knew the day she found out. Of course. I am so happy. I've been wanting to share this part of my... Not to make everything about me. I've been wanting to share this part of my TTC journey with the tosters that I couldn't because I didn't want to drag Shannon into it. But Shannon and I were trying at the same time. And literally the month I got pregnant, I got pregnant because of Shannon. I feel like I've told the story that I was using those strips, primam strips. I was doing them wrong for literally three months. And I was talking to Shannon about it because we were just swapping stories about how annoying it was to pee on this little thing in the middle of a restaurant. And she was like, and then you put in the app and finally it tells you. I'm like, wait, I hadn't even heard. I was like, what? She's like, Yeah, that's how you know which is really your peak, which line is truly darker. The app, you scan it. Oh, my God, she saved me so much time. That was the month I got pregnant.

Seriously, streamlined the whole thing for me.

So you were doing it wrong in the sense of not using the app? Just in case anyone is doing it wrong out there.

Yeah. So I was basically just doing the strips and you could see the lines, but it's hard to know. Was yesterday's line darker or a little bit darker, which day was truly the peak. If you don't scan it, if you scan it on the app, they'll tell you the exact percentage that you're peaking and if it was more or less than the day before. It's also just an organized way to keep a picture of your strips because if you do it in your photo albums, the lighting could be different and it could look weird. She totally got me preg.

Okay. First story. Craig Conover, when I'm watched What Happens Live last night following an episode of Southern Charmed to discuss his breakup with Andy Cohen. A lot came out from last night, and I just have to mention this scene on Southern Charmed between Craig and Paige. I'm sure you've seen clips. She was visiting him. They went to a farm to see the beekeeper. Remember when he was on the toes, not to make it about us. He was talking about how they love having bees. We saw them go They're going to put on their bee suits. Start that journey. He's so excited about the bees. She's having a panic attack, which is so real. Then they walk around the farm and talk about their relationship and their dreams because he's salivating. This is my dream, chicken, to live on a farm with a of animals and a bunch of animals and a bunch of kids. She's like, Hold your horses. It's the same conversation that we've seen them have when they've had these hard conversations of, one, Craig is ready for all of this, and then two, Paige sometimes Sometimes wants the same thing that he wants, and other times doesn't.

He says that she changes her mind a lot, and he's just giving her the time and patience. Space. But then she's also like, Well, don't pressure me. He's like, I'm not pressuring you, but she's like, Even having this conversation is you pressuring me. I think in a relationship, you're allowed to ask, Hey, where are we going and when? Where is this going? Without it being pressure. I think he tried to navigate that as best as possible, but she still felt pressured. That conversation, then knowing that they broke up, obviously reads differently than the ones that they've had in the past where it's actually the same conversation. They're talking about how they're having a hard time.

Yeah, but now knowing what we know.

Now knowing what we know, we're like, Okay, these are the issues that they had, and this is why they broke up. The only thing that's a sticking point, it's like, Craig never ran out of patience. That's what's so crazy. It's like, he didn't say, I can't do this anymore. I want to get married and have kids. She said she doesn't want to do this anymore with him.

Yeah. That was the saddest part of what Craig had said on Watched Happens Live, was that he fully... We had gathered this based on certain things, but pretty much confirmed, like Paige was the one who broke up with him. He got dumped out of the blue in his mind on the phone, and that it wasn't because of the timelines, because he was willing to wait. It was just like that Paige finally came to the realization that, yes, she wants those things, but not with me. To hear him say that was so sad.

Craig was moving to New York. It's not like that was another roadblock of no one will move. He was ready to move and be the one to do that. And then she broke up with him. Then he had to explain this timeline because Page had said the other day, they broke up over Thanksgiving. Then Southern Chatham Press Tour started, and he's like, did you come on watch what happens live and lie about you and Page?

Lied. By the way, Craig is getting dragged on the internet, people being like, that's really weird. They're pulling up this page sixth interview that he did just talking about how Page is crushing it on Giggly Squad and the tour.

You could say that about someone that you work up with, by the way.

No, no. And Chucky, they're still together. He was saying things in the interview, and people were like, That's really weird of Craig. They're clowning on him so hard. And I didn't think it was so weird. He explained himself on Watched Happens Live, and I thought it was a good explanation. He was like, Well, first of all, this was three days after the breakup. I was definitely still in denial and shock. I thought maybe we were going to work it through. So why make a whole big kerfuffle if we're just going to get back together? And two, Yeah. We weren't telling people yet, so I have to just do my job. I didn't think it was so weird, but he's getting really made fun of for walking around, pretending they're still together.

I actually don't think it's weird. I didn't think that was weird either, from the way that he told the series of events they were together, Thanksgiving. Then he left, and she called and said, I think we should break up. Then he has to be in New York for press, and he's staying at her apartment. I think he maybe was in denial. He alluded to how in the past, they've had fights and stuff. But then he also said they didn't fight. I feel like They had gotten to this point a couple of times before.

But then they pushed- Yes, shit or get off the pot.

Then they pushed through. Really, maybe he did think that they were going to get back together, in which case, why air out your dirty laundry?

Or to- The next day.

To have to say it the next day. It's like all these girls, like Rihanna and Rachel Corknell, all they wanted was a week to process, and that's what he wanted to. It made sense when they say it, and it made sense when he says it to me.

By the way, there are a lot of similarities between, I think, Paige and Craig and other public breakups, but the roles are really reversed because stereotypically, it's the woman who's really pushing this timeline of wanting to get married and have kids. That's why I think a lot of people are almost impressed by Paige because she's not falling into that cliché. She's very career-focused, very independent focus. And Craig is the first time we've seen a public relationship where the man is the one who's really wanting to push forward. That's really not the case for most of the people I know in my personal life, too, most relationships. So I think that if the roles were reversed, we would all be saying different things. But because it's Craig, who's the one who's very timeline-focused, I think it's short-circuiting people a lot. And I think Amanda Batula's interview, most recently, where she commented on Craig doing the Page 6 thing, pretending to still be together. That really blew the whole thing up, and that's what he was directly responding to on Watched Up. She was being a little mean.

Yeah, and then she also said something about Craig not defending Page from the cheating rumors.

Andy asked about that. That's been a huge topic of conversation because that's Paige's big issue with Craig up until this point. I think it might have remained pretty much an amicable breakup if it weren't for the cheating rumors and then Craig not stepping in and being like, No, that's completely false.

Yeah. I don't think he did the best job explaining himself, but I understood what he was trying to say, I think, which is like, that's completely false. He never made any... He didn't allude to her cheating, never said anything like that. Why does he need to respond to this jokes. And like we said about, Paige, when we were recapping their podcast episode, real normal people never thought that she cheated on him. Why does he have to respond to the worst people on the internet and get in the mud with them? When he said, I don't want to be involved, it's like, you are involved. But I understand not responding to absolutely baseless rumors because then it gives people the runway to keep starting baseless rumors.

Making shit up a thousand %. And I think I really see both sides from... I can understand how Paige is like, Listen, people are saying horrible things about me. You know them to not be true. If you could just step your pussy up, that would be great. While if Craig had stepped in and said, Leave Paige alone, that would have been really lovely and magnanimous of him. But But also, Craig is dealing with a lot, and so Craig is excluding himself from the narrative. That's what he was trying to say. And you can't because you're Craig of Paige and Craig, but he doesn't want to be part of this drama.

And I'm sure that a part of him is angry. He said he's angry because she is moving on. Even though she's not dating that guy, Joe, they went to a football game together. She's dating, and this is what we said. That's where people start to turn on each other when you see them with the next person. And it's like, we're no longer overarchingly having each other's backs because we're moving on. So it's like, I think he's also just mad that she is moving on, and he doesn't feel like he contributed to those rumors at all. So why is it his job to squash them?

His responsibility to get in the gutter with the trolls. Yeah. I also... I really want Paige to know that nobody thinks that. I've never once questioned her character during this entire saga. You're allowed to break up with someone with thousand %. Whether people agree She should have stayed with him. Who cares? It's her life. She is completely valid in wanting to break up with someone. It's her choice. This is a free country. She's done nothing wrong. She's not a bad person. I've never once questioned her character. She's allowed to move on with her life and make a decision. I don't think she cheated on him. If she did go on a date with somebody four weeks later, everybody moves on in their own time. I don't even think that's so crazy. I think that she is... It's hard because Bravo's so toxic. The fandom is so crazy. The accounts and the blogs and Reddit. I could see how it's so easy to get caught up in it. But I wanted her to know normies up here, we don't mess around with the carny folk. We're chilling. We know. It's okay.

Yeah. For me, there's not a bad guy in this story. It's two people who I stand and I once shipped. Then they broke up in a very amicable way. Not mutual, as Craig says, but you're allowed to break up with someone. You can call them, and then you talk to them for the rest of the week, and then you have that final conversation a few days later. She gave him plenty of time to justice and grieve without the world knowing, which is, again, just what Rachel and Brianna had been asking for. There's not a bad guy in this story. I think people just want to find someone to blame. We're so used to that.

No, and we're mad. We wanted it to work out. Yeah, but we're We need someone to if something goes wrong, you want to drag someone.

But I think most of their relationship, we know what the issues were, but we also know that they really liked each other. I think that it just didn't work out, and that happens all the You're 100% right.

We're just very used to being like, Team Zack Bryant, team Brianna.

Because there's a bad person involved. But to me, there's no bad person involved.

Nobody did anything wrong. I think that people are just projecting their own relationship issues. If you were in a relationship where you felt like somebody led you on for too long, you're going to be team Craig. If you are in a relationship where you feel like somebody was suffocating you, you're going to be team Page. People are just projecting you're 100% right. There is nobody at fault here, and it's just a breakup. It's just so It's just sad. I just love these two so much together.

Yeah. It's just sad that what he said, it's like you go from someone being like your soulmate, the ins and outs of them, to them being a stranger. That's just a crazy thing that happens.

Oh, my God. It's crazy. Yeah. Wishing them well. I hate that it's gotten to a place that's contentious. Obviously, comparatively to other public breakups, it could be worse. But I do wish we didn't get to this place.

But I also think it has a lot to do with the ancillary characters, Austin, Amanda. Everyone wanting to defend their friend, but they're making it messy.

But I guess it's also like reality TV. These are dramatic people. What do we expect?

Because Hailey Steinfeld and Josh Allen made their red carpet debut at the NFL Honors, nearly three months after their engagement. So the Super Bowl is popping off. We asked where it was. Yes, finally. Finally, last night was NFL Honors. A lot of fun bits, headline news. Haley and Josh walked the carpet together and they kissed when he won MVP.

I want to talk about Hailey and Josh, but I do want to fill you in. Not Dave Portnoy, literally being the only person making waves at the Super Bowl. He shared something else on a podcast that I saw this morning that I thought was so interesting. Braxton Berrios was set to guest on two Barstool podcasts, and he canceled the hour before. And Dave is so mad. I think maybe Braxton has either an issue with Barstool or Dave or maybe, I don't know, Alex Earle. If you think about it, she's with Unwell. There's a lot of connections there. He is basically asking people to get him Braxton's phone number because he wants to ask Braxton why he canceled.

But why would Braxton say yes if there were outstanding issues?

I don't know. Well, so Patrick Mahomes basically was asked in a press conference if he'll go on the Bustin' with the Boys podcast now because they've left Barstool. You know Bustin' with the Boys where Travis went on? Yeah. It's a Barstool podcast. I guess Patrick has beef with Barstool. He's like, Well, now they have a much likelier chance of me getting on their podcast now that they've left Barstool. That's what he said in the press conference. Dave was talking about that on the podcast, being like, I didn't even know Patrick had an issue with us, but fuck him. And Braxton Berrios, you too.

Why would Braxton say yes? I don't know if he has an issue or just something came up. I don't know. I'm give Braxton the benefit of the doubt.

And just you're going to say something came up?

Perhaps. Okay. I mean, things happen, of course. Maybe he couldn't get off the floor after watching his girlfriend in that commercial.

Oh, my God. We can't talk about her.

I've fallen in and I can't get up.

That was a brilliant marketing move. Carl's Jr. If you guys are some of our young Gen Z listeners, you don't know that back in the day, Carl's Jr. Would run one commercial a year with the hottest girl alive. Classically, Paris Hilton has been one, Lindsay Lohan, all the girls of your. They always wear these sexy star bikinis and were washing cars, eating these burgers. It was very toxic male gaze, but in the hottest, most positive way ever. They haven't done one in a while. I don't even know that they were still selling burgers or whatever they sell. They've brought back the classic commercial with the girls in the bikini with Alex Earle. It's so brilliant. It's such a good get for her and for them. It's truly, honestly, maybe a Toasty Lion's candidate.

Then he went to focus on his business and Paige helped him out of that. That's why he resents Austin for not being like, Hey, buddy, because it's like, I think he said, Trying not to be an alcoholic is going to ruin my friendship with Austin. That's why he's big mad at Austin. Then I saw a clip of Carl Radke on nick Vial's podcast talking about Paige and Craig. It's actually crazy that Carl said this, and I think it's a little not right that he said it, but he alluded to the fact that Craig was having some issues in his relationship with Page, and Page was really there for him and a lot of ups and downs. I feel like there was an underlying issue of alcoholism in the early days of their relationship. So when he said that- Carl said that?

Carl didn't say that, but he was... Especially after seeing the preview, I feel like Carl- Was alluding to that. Was alludinging to that. Now, I might need the context of the next episode of Southern Charm and watch Carl's interview. But it seems like that was also a part of their relationship, her really rehabilitating him and helping him not go down a dark path. Him giving her credit on that, on Watch Happens Live, to me was explanatory of that. But I thought it was weird that Carl would say that because that's a little bit like Kyle. Two, she's out here marketing herself as an outsider. She's not like this music industry. She's noble and a socialist. But she's going to the Grammys, and she's a part of the machine now. She acts like she's holier than thou, but she's a part of thou.

He read her to filth and explained a lot of the ins and outs of the industry and why the record labels have seriously no obligation to give people insurance, and you wouldn't even want them to do that, to be micromanaging these aspects of their artist's lives. He also said, while her overall cause is maybe noble to her, this isn't the way that things get done. That's not how actual change is made. He was giving some other ideas for things that she could do with her fellow artists to help uplift artists who are not in that room. But yeah, really chewed her up and spat her out. No.

The article was Making Waves. Halsey read it. Halsey is a long-time advocate for how the music industry is so terrible. She wrote this scathing thing on her Instagram stories to the guy Jeff, just being like, you suck.

No. But I think from a PR perspective, it's actually a very good response I think that, and what he was saying, it's like, so Halsey should donate, too.

A lot of the bigger artists who are in that room, they said labels invest all this money in artists, and it's only 15% that wind up paying for everyone else. Most of them are a flop.

And those people- But then that's a lot of entertainment. That's the TV industry, too. 90% of TV shows lose money, but the 10% that make it cover the 90%.

He was saying that she should call on her fellow artists who are also of means. I know she called out him, but maybe she can team up with some others who are passionate.

Let me tell you, because I did the Glee- Because you did the Glee one. The first time I did it, that never made air because Naya Rivera died the week before, and they just tabled the podcast. They had given me an episode to watch, and we recap to that episode. This time around, they were just talking to a super fan about Glee in general. So they've maybe shifted their model a little bit. I don't know what other rewatch podcasts do. I think they all start with the watch one episode and recap because it's an easy format. And either they finish the episodes and keep going, or they just think it's better to have on super fans and old cast mates, and it just fizzles.

Yeah. I think doing it episode by episode makes it good so that you don't run out of things to talk about, but it's just a lot of homework for the people participating.

Our fifth and final Story. Southern Charms star Madison La Croix is pregnant with her second child, her first with her husband, Brett Randall. Sally wasn't in the episode. I didn't particularly miss them in that storyline because now we're with the OGs, Craig. At dinner, at Patricia's dinner, they were literally just roasting everyone. They were talking to Craig about his relationship with Paige and everyone just being like, it's been two and a half years. When are you going to propose? It's like, that's Rich coming from this group. Austin's in a long term relationship. None of them have girlfriends. None of them have girlfriends. They're always in long term. How long did Shep date Taylor for and didn't propose to her?

I guess each individual player has their own little podium, and reporters can choose to go. And I guess so many people go to Travis's, He was like, That's the Taylor Swift effect. And so you see, I saw a bird's-eye perspective of how many people go to Travis's podium, and it's seriously absurd. The fact that people work so hard to get there, and then that's the question that they ask, absolutely disgraceful.
