I did it yesterday, I felt like so young. I was like walking through town and somebody drove by in their car and they're like, "Turdie, we love you." And like, I was just kind of overwhelmed so I didn't know what to do, so I was like. Heart. It was so like—

it's a toaster bat signal.

Yeah, but no, what's the other one where it's like—

Oh yeah, so they go like this, they go like—

It was kind of a crazy weekend in a sense, like it rained a lot, so I actually watched a lot of be that I need to talk about.

You guys, I started Off Campus. I feel like that has to be the headline news. Absolutely headline news.

I'm afraid I haven't really spoken to you about it.

I told you a little bit, and I didn't get to watch that much because I'm actually like embarrassed because I didn't start it with Zach.

No, like, and if we had started it together, then like we're on this journey together. No, but like now I can't just like play it and have him see what this is, so I sort of got stuck and I can't press play.

Um, literally this— I'm on the episode called The Orgasm.

Oh, and that's like episode 3 or 4, like, yeah.

Okay, so you're decently far to his house and I can't just press play right now.

It's also like you're about to reach like a very pivotal scene for reasons like—

it's not what you think, like plot-driven. But also like if I just press play and he sits down to watch a scene about like a girl being—

it's horrifying.

I just— how can I explain myself?

I told you, I watched the entire show over the course of like 2 separate nights where Ben was playing basketball with your husband. Like, you can't watch in front of—

no, I think if we had started together, we'd be like on this journey together and there would be like no judgment from each other because like it's 50/50.

No, but like you were the one who suggested it, so there's like more—

I guess like 70/30. So here's my thing with the show. I want to like the show so badly because it's everything that I love, as I knew that it would be. College campus, cuties, love, romance, like feel good. This couple does not give me butterflies like Elle and Miles do. Okay. I'd hate to be the type of person who watches a porno and then like complains about the plot. Criticize the porn? Criticize the plot? But like the plot is not strong enough. Like this deal that they have so that she could like talk to Justin and he's gonna literally upend his whole life to help her talk to Justin to work on his oral of Kierkegaard. Like it's just not strong enough. So every time he like goes above and beyond, like holds her hand and like does the most to fake their relationship, I'm like, the, the core reason isn't there. So it's a very common trope in like smut, which is like faking a romance.

And I think that maybe because like you don't read a lot of like fake boyfriend, that it like seems kind of stupid. And like, it is stupid, but if you're like immersed in the world, like classic, it's a classic trope.

But even in Elle, they did like a fake boyfriend episode and it worked. And like they, they dropped it after, like the jig was up and, you know, they didn't have to go and prove this like big huge thing. And like, she's already like working with Justin on music. Like you guys, and he has— she— I mean, he He likes the Kierkegaard ghosting exam, so like they could just drop it.

They do eventually.

Well, so that's my issue is that like they're not tethered in like a strong enough way and the plot like isn't strong enough, but I really do wanna like it. Garrett Graham, Garrett Graham.

He's a cutie now.

He's cute, she's cute. I like that she's so bubbly.

She's Kate Middleton in The Crown.

And I just, I like wanna like it even more, but maybe I just have to watch more.

So my experience was like around the third or fourth episode, I like stopped watching it. It was like, yeah, it's like corny book, whatever. You just have to be in the right headspace for it. I feel like maybe I was luteal, and then when you get to follicular, like, you're open to it. Because I did stop around where you were. I'm like, oh, this is like silly.

But I, I don't want to stop it except for my embarrassment.

Um, no, you should keep going.

I am in the right headspace because I just watched Elle, and I'm like, I would love to watch like a young romance, like nice looking people. All the hockey players are so cute, so cute. And then like they all eventually like one, one of them, like, fixes up cars and obviously likes her.

So I want to hear some lore about him. I didn't know, first of all, he has like a huge Broadway background. He's like an amazing singer. I just saw a video of him singing the national anthem at like a football game. He is the former boyfriend and kind of the subject of all of, uh, what's her name, Renee Rapp's like popular music is about him. And I'll dance with your ghost in the living room. It's about him.

He's a major cutie.

He's a major cutie. He does start to piss me off. Like you'll see when they get to like the charity event, it's like, okay, we get it.

Like he obviously likes her. That's like not gonna work. We have now 3 people liking her.

Yeah. And, and 2 days ago, no, she was like a nerd who like took off his glasses.

Meanwhile, she looked the same the whole time. She got the drugs the whole time.

Yeah, yeah, she's 18. Okay, so you're saying like, watch it?

No, I'm— I just— I didn't know if you knew she was 18. She's like much younger than the actress herself.

So I think that's why she doesn't do any nudity.

Well, that's always funny when it's like a nude show and then the lead— Sex and the City doesn't do it.

We never saw them titties on Carrie Bradshaw, not once.

But like, Sex and the City was also a show. Like, this is a a porno.

But I will say, he was also like a porno.

But I will say, considering how much everyone said it's like so sex— like, you'd be embarrassed to watch it, like, don't watch it on an airplane— there's actually not— there's a couple of montages, especially because when you have like an enemies-to-lovers or a fake dating relationship, you actually don't get to like the sex until 80%. Yeah, they start putting in all these wet dreams just to like—

it's true—

stimulate the audience.

But so yeah, it's actually not that much porn. No, it's more corn than porn.

Like, it's really corny at times.

I will say I had a similar experience. Keep going with it, I think you will end up liking it a lot.

I think so too. It has all the makings.

All the things that I want— show me that— all the makings of something we both would like. I watched Five Star Weekend. I still have like 2 more episodes, but, um, feeling so torn. First of all, it's all coming— I'm remembering so much about the book, and I kind of feel like the show's better off if you don't know the big twist because really the show isn't good enough if you already know, you know. And the thing, it's like an Ellen Hildebrand book, it's supposed to be all about Nantucket. Like what Ellen Hildebrand does so good is like she builds this magical world about Nantucket. I mean, I've actually been to Nantucket once but I don't even remember. Yeah, we went. Um, but like they really make Nantucket a character in the house and like they're just not doing that at all. Like I don't know if it's on a set or if they really film in Nantucket, but like it's so not Nantucket-y. I'm like, give me the vibe. There's no vibes, there's no aura. Like I remember when I watched that show Sirens, I'm like, I hated it but I loved that house.

Like we don't even see Jennifer Garner's house, but A lot of the characters are growing on me, and I'm remembering like a lot of the plots between the different characters. I do think you would really like it. It's so corny. It's like literally a Hallmark movie in a show. I don't know why they had to make it like corny like that. Jennifer Garner like is actually like—

Yeah, she's being like, like not a good actress. I don't know if she's like doing it on purpose, but it's like very corny, very like JLo in Office Romance. It's actually good. I like can't decide. I love Duran, and I love that freaky mom from Wellesley.

I would say if a Wellesley Wellsley. Hey, Wellsley. I would say if you're not disliking it, then it's good. That's the bar nowadays. Yeah, if you're confused on if you like it or not, it's good.

Not to be that girl, like, maybe it's just because I read the book.

I mean, that literally is always the case. Like, not even like being facetious, like, it's just like all of Elden—

Ellen Hildebrand's book, even if like the bad ones, like, they're all parji, right? They all have like that very nautical, beachy I don't really feel like they're doing a good job of like world building. Not to be like such a narc, but like make it more pargy, more aesthetic. Give me more vibes. Give me the ocean.

Like, that happened with Perfect Couple also. Yeah. And I think it's because they don't film on Nantucket, and maybe because they can't film on Nantucket. But if you can't film on Nantucket, like, don't adapt the books.

Agreed. Because Nantucket is a character in all the books, and I just feel like, I don't know, it's like weird. Yeah, it's fine. It's good, it's good, it's good. I didn't realize that like that miserable friend Tatum is Chloé Sevigny. She's so random. I saw her in the morning on like Good Morning America talking about it, and she was like kind of being rude. The anchor was like, what's it like for you to do something so mainstream? Like, you always pick like really artsy or whatever. And she was like, I did it as a gift to my mom because like my mom is always— people are asking her like, what's your daughter in? And she knows what she's talking about. And then she goes to the grocery store now and everyone knows what she's talking about. But she said in like a really, really disrespectful way. I was like, do you hate the project?

I just want to say, one, I think that's a pretty good answer. Two, it's kind of a rude question. Yes. But 3, a good question.

Well, Chloe Sevigny was like, I didn't— when I got the script, I was like, I don't know if like my fans are gonna get this or like this because like it's so different from what I usually do.

So she did like, okay, she opened it up for us to be like, you're weird, you're weird, and this is cool.

Yeah, yeah. Um, but it is a good question. So like, because she's so random. Congrats on the cojones for asking.

And I agreed with you.

And he was like, well, I don't want to start a show from the second episode. I'm like, okay, well then we're in a standstill because— so he like wanted to watch it.

It's Ben's fault.

Yeah, just like miss one episode. I can explain to you, not a lot happened. Yeah, I fell asleep in the middle of the second one.

I tried so hard, like, I meant— I can't believe the World Cup is over and I actually cumulatively watched like 10 minutes of the whole thing. It's like, I really meant to get involved.

We watched a bit yesterday, like, we tried. We did, like, you know, it was the topic of the day.

We were out and they were playing it, so like Of course they were playing it everywhere.

Stood and watched it for like 3 minutes. Then in the car on the way home, we listened to the game and that was really fun for everyone.

So old school. Yeah.

And then the halftime show came up. I was like, thank God.

Yeah, right.

Music makes the people come together. Meanwhile, oh, we were listening to it. Zach said it was on the radio and I see that he has his phone watching it.

Were you driving?

No, he was in the front and I was in the third row.

Oh.

So like he was able to see. Um, but I listened to the halftime show. As an audio-only experience, like a podcast, like a podcast. And then we came home and we finished watching the game, and they lost.

The team that you were rooting for?

We were rooting for Argentina at the end of the day. That's where our loyalties lie. Congrats, Usain, I guess. We'll get into it. Yeah, we'll get into the drama. Should we get into it?

I guess. Like, what else can we talk about before? Like, just want to make sure we're like fully caught up.

I feel caught up too. Yeah, the skies have cleared. Thankfully.

That was really crazy. Like, Canada, you're on notice big time. Like, that's not good neighborly behavior.

Did that— when the California wildfires happened, did that happen to like in Mexico? I don't know.

I don't know if it happened in Mexico, but yeah, definitely the surrounding areas like experienced a lot of smokiness. But that's not very neighborly, I just want to say.

I feel like Coldplay has like a lot of like really emphatic fans. I've never been like— I have no problem with Coldplay, they're lovely people. And of course, viva la vida, I'm always saying viva la vida. I just like— and people like go to their concerts and like do ayahuasca and it's like a really meaningful thing. I never really like got into it. I like the beat, of course, but they don't— but I think like when they perform, like, like people can't criticize it. It's like, here, religious experience.

And I feel like this is something I personally had FOMO from. Like, I saw the pictures, it looked like such a regular wedding, like a bunch of like just friends dancing and drinking. I think they're going to like really manage what they do and like slot them in. I'm sure they'll also get them brand deals.

Amaya, Papaya, and Hannah from last season doing a big Maybelline commercial. All— it's like every time you open TikTok, it's right there.

Yeah. So I guess like for this season, I mean, it makes makes— no, actually, I don't know that it makes sense, but like, it's crazy.

I mean, it's a good financial managerial decision on the network's behalf because like you are making these people huge stars and you have a lot of sponsors. I think a lot of people like who were in ball gowns that night like took advantage of the narrative and like let people think they went to the wedding. Like, maybe she didn't. Like, why the fuck did she post that picture of Joe Alwyn? Like, we, we as a culture We moved on from that too quickly.

Like, that's huge. So I think of all the people who maybe could complain. Uh, Gracie's like, uh, like, don't bite the hand that feeds you. I think a lot of people only know about Gracie Abrams because of Taylor. Taylor brought her out, so I don't know why she would be mad.

But also, I do think when you were reading the lyrics, the use of the phrase 'nothing new,' which of course Taylor didn't invent that lyric, but Taylor does have a song, and Taylor has a lot of songs, but to reference that, that song is about younger artists. 'Will you still want me when I'm nothing new?' It's about like a younger version, like, coming and superseding. It's like Taylor's worst nightmare come to life of like younger artists who can, you know, shine brighter than her, coming and taking over what she's built. That is what the song is about.

It can mean that.

Yeah, you could say that about any song. And I think, yes, I think you should lie about what your songs are about. Like plausible deniability and let people like envision their own lives through music. Yeah. Um, yeah, because like she went to the wedding, and what does it say about us that we think it's about Taylor?

And I think that like maybe if there are people who like want to complain about how Taylor has treated them. Like, there could be people with valid arguments, but I just want to say, like, Gracie Abrams is not one of those people. She's somebody who's just, like, exclusively benefited from her closeness to Taylor. Well, as far as we know right now, I'm talking about, like, fame and popularity, right? She's like, she's like a major pop girlie now, and that has a lot to do with her proximity to Taylor, Taylor, like, collaborating with her.
