Welcome to the Level Up Podcast. I'm your host, Paul Alex. I went from being a cop to an 8-figure entrepreneur that helps average people like you and me make money every single day. I created this podcast to help you get motivated and to crush your goals. Let's win together.
Remember, I have your 6. Get ready to level up right now.
What's up everyone? Welcome back to the Level Up Podcast. I'm Paul Alex, and today we're talking about telling the truth when you're trying to build a name for yourself. You see people posting big numbers, big wins, and perfect lives. It can make your own progress feel small.
But making your story sound bigger creates a problem. Sooner or later, people expect you to deliver what you've been claiming. Here's something I'm clear about with my own story. When one of my companies generates revenue, that doesn't mean I personally put all that money in my pocket. And when I talk about my business results, That doesn't mean everyone who learns from me will earn the same amount.
Those distinctions matter. I'm proud of what I've built. I also made mistakes and lost money along the way. I want people to hear a story they can actually learn from. If you're starting out, don't talk yourself into thinking honesty makes you look weak.
You can explain what you do well without claiming you've done everything. You can describe the work you're offering without promising a result you can't control. And when you don't know an answer, say so. Find out and come back with something useful. You don't need to fill every gap with a claim you're going to have to defend later.
Be proud of the progress you can stand behind. You completed your first project? Explain what you did. You solved a problem for a customer? Describe the work accurately, with their permission if you're sharing their situation.
You're still learning a skill? Show the work you're putting into it. Before you post a result or make a promise, Ask yourself one question: If somebody asked me to explain exactly what I mean, could I do it clearly and honestly? If you need people to misunderstand the claim for it to sound impressive, change the claim. Bottom line?
You don't have to erase the hard parts or inflate the wins to have something worth saying. Tell the truth about what you've done. Be clear about what you can offer. Do the work that makes the next honest statement stronger. Give people a reason to trust you that you can keep earning.
