Welcome to the Level Up Podcast. I'm your host, Paul Alex. I went from being a cop to an 8-figure entrepreneur that helps average people like you and me make money every single day. I created this podcast to help you get motivated and to crush your goals. Let's win together.
Remember, I have your 6. Get ready to level up right now.
What's up everyone? Welcome back to the Level Up Podcast. I'm Paul Alex, and today we're talking about accountability. It's easy to spot what everybody else needs to improve.
Your team needs to communicate. Your salesperson needs to follow through. Your partner needs to be more organized. Okay, what would they say you need to improve? If you want to lead, you have to be willing to answer that too.
When I'm coaching a salesperson, helping a business partner, or leading the CashWipe team, I have to hold myself accountable before I expect it from somebody else. That's part of the responsibility. I can't make leadership about whether people agree with me. I have to communicate clearly and set expectations people can understand. Otherwise, I'm asking them to succeed at something I haven't explained.
So start with the standard. If you say you want better communication, what does that mean? An update by the end of the day? A call when a deadline is in trouble? Say it clearly.
Then follow it yourself. If you promise an answer by Friday, give the answer or explain the delay. If the direction changes, Tell the people doing the work. Don't make them find out after they've spent hours following the old plan. And when you get something wrong, own your part without a speech about how busy you are.
You can say you missed something. You can correct an instruction. You can acknowledge that you didn't give somebody what they needed. That doesn't remove their responsibility. It makes room for an honest conversation about both sides.
The goal is getting the work right. If every problem becomes a contest over who looks better, you're going to spend a lot of time arguing and very little time improving. Think about the last issue you were frustrated with. Before you bring it up again, identify your part and the change you're willing to make. Bottom line, accountability has to include you.
Be clear about what you expect. Keep the commitments you make. Correct your own mistakes. Then hold people to the standard you've made clear. You give your team a better chance to take responsibility when they can see you doing it too.
