This episode of The Dan Le Batard Show mixes sports talk with a long debate about whether audiences can keep enjoying the work of entertainers accused of serious crimes. The hosts and guest David Sampson discuss separating art from artists, whether Hall of Fame figures like O.J.
Simpson should be removed, and a proposal to rename Plantation, Florida. Later, they weigh fandom against business in sports, the effect of midterm elections on college sports legislation, and the weekly NFL picks segment.
Listeners hear arguments from several sides, and the hosts and guest often disagree with one another.

That's weird, right?
It's always weird. David Sampson is often unusual, but I just wanted to include him on a conversation here. I just saw something happen in real time that I imagine is happening all the time, and I saw it happen to Zaslow in a way that was interesting. So Russell Brand is about to get a lot of prison time, and Zaslow is just learning now that getting him to the Greek and this guy that he used to like is really disappointing him. It just happened next to me where it's like he's like, "Oh, wait a minute.
I like that guy. What do you mean? What, he's a criminal? He's going to prison?" And so it was fascinating to just watch you sort of get disappointed and feel the crush of, "This is a person I rooted for, and he's an awful human being."
Yeah, forgetting Sarah Marshall is probably my favorite comedy. Getting him to the Greek, I think, is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. So that's disappointing about Russell Brand. Heck, this happened to me also with when I was a teenager and when I was in college. That '70s show, one of my all-time favorite shows. And Danny Masterson, clearly a real piece of shit because he women and now he's in prison for like the rest of his life. And that was shocking also to like, I don't know, you watch these people, it's like, "Oh, he makes me laugh." It's, "Oh, he's a really bad person."
This guy lived under a rock. He didn't know about Tommy Tuberville either.
He's locked in on sports, Jeremy. What are you doing? Come on.
That guy doesn't know sports.
Come on.
It's just a bummer when you find that.
Zaslow lives in a cave, occasionally comes out and watches Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and then goes back to Panthers hockey. Like that. What do you mean?
I mean, take my stories also.
Take my eyes, but not my shit.
I mean, that phenomenon goes all the way back to Cosby, right? Bill Cosby.
Cosby's got to be the top one.
He's America's dad. And then look at him.
So we should do what? A top five guys who turned out to be rapists?
Yeah, go ahead and assemble that. David Sampson, you're laughing over there. Nothing personal.
Like Family Feud.
Well, but David Sampson. So David Sampson loves the movies more than any of your guys. How do you manage all of this stuff?
I just don't recognize the difference. So I will tell you that I'll still listen to Michael Jackson songs, and I'll still watch the usual suspects. And I try to remember that these are people who are doing things that are so terrible I don't want to know them in real life.
Show me Kevin Spacey.
Yeah, good answer. Good answer. And I'm glad that he's going to prison because he's a rapist. But on the other hand, I laughed, and I'm not going to feel bad for not feeling worse. But he's not going to get to make another movie. So he's done making me laugh. It's got to be on rerun only. And if I don't separate art from artist, I'm screwed. I won't be able to watch anything or listen to anything because it turns out celebrities and artists are just people who are committing the same types of crimes as everyone else who's being prosecuted by DAs around the country and the world.
So you're really adept at separating art from the artist then.
That's what you just said.
You have to be.
Okay, Roy, I'm sorry. I'm going to have to get you. I'm going to have to get you out of here, Roy. If you weren't listening.
Just hammering home the point.
Yeah, hammering home the point. Just get out of here.
Minor penalty, two minutes for not listening to the show.
See that coming?
Just get out of here.
Please show yourself out.
Another example of what we're talking about, obviously, is O.J. Simpson. I'm curious, David Sampson, should the NFL retroactively abolish O.J. Simpson from the Hall of Fame? That applies to other sports as well, but in this case, I'm curious what you think.
There was a committee that was started at Yale where they came up with a way to judge how you decide when to rename buildings or take down statues, when you would go back in time and say, "Wow, that person was a racist or a rapist or a murderer. Do we adjust?" And there's an entire sort of rule book that now people are following with how to navigate your impossible question, Greg, because people will say, "Oh, just it's so easy. Just change the name of the building or get rid of O.J.
Simpson. Just erase him as though it didn't happen." And things aren't necessarily as easy as that. So applying what I know about the system to O.J. Simpson, the answer is no. The answer is that he is O.J. Simpson. Part of his story is that he was found not guilty criminally. He was found liable civilly. And then he went to prison on an unrelated robbery charge. That's part of his story. If we made the Hall of Fame, and of course we pick and choose because some people we choose do not allow in for gambling or steroids, and other people did both of those and are in the Hall of Fame in baseball.
So basically, we pick and choose inconsistently, and we just live with it.
Why is Roy not in the penalty box? Roy decided to interrupt Greg Cody by saying literally something David Sampson had said four sentences earlier.
In a day after Greg Cody Day as well.
Why is he still so close to the studio? Why is he not banished? I wish I still had the ocean. I'm thinking about going back to the Clevelander just so I could send Roy out to sea. I'm thinking like, I don't want he's just going to lean like it's a lamp post. Like he's going to lean against the studio just waiting to be allowed back in when I want him the hell out of here off of Greg Cody's plantation.
In his defense, he looked really cool leaning up against the wall.
He did.
Like a casual of them. I like how that sounded. Yeah, neither did I. Zaz?
You know what? Neither did I. You guys continue the show with David Sampson.
Minor penalty, two minutes. Accidental racism.
Oh, man.
Hey, Zaz, what are you, a monk?
Well, I mean, David's someone we could ask here. David, do you recognize I have not seen this movie. Do you know what movie I am from? It's a show.
It was also a movie.
Oh my God. Do you know what I'm from here, David? What I'm dressed as? So the only thing I thought of, and this is obviously, this could end the segment right now. I thought you could have been Mark.
Yeah, I like it. Robin?
What's up? Robin Williams from Mark and Mindy?
Yeah.
Yes. That's the only thing I thought of, Mike, when I saw Zaz.
Mark from Mark?
Mark from Mark. That's the first thing that came to my mind.
Apparently.
I'm a character from the movie Avatar, but I thought those were blue guys.
Yeah. They got the blue thing on your face.
From Avatar: The Last Airbender. Now that came first. That's not the same Avatar?
So there was an animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and then a feature film that was actually, I believe, directed by M. Night Shyamalan. No twist in this one.
I don't watch cartoons. I'm an adult.
Well, it was a movie too.
So Mike, without getting too personal, are you supposed to be Gilligan?
No. I lost at the bucket, and you have to wear the losing team's mascot, and I had the Coast Guard.
They got annihilated by MIT.
Which honestly was really disappointing for the men in our service. For the armed services, I was it got pushed around by a bunch of tech nerds.
Yeah.
Coast Guard.
I lost the bucket too, and I didn't know what to dress as, so I just dressed as myself.
We have something for you when you come down here next, David.
Got it.
I do.
So it's got to be an in-person costume.
That's a preference.
I do want an update here because the last time we spoke with David, David was going through it because he was getting aggregated very unfairly last week. Remember with the radio? Baseball doesn't need to be on radio anymore. That was right. David, I got to tell you, I felt bad for you. That was unfair.
You did it.
Don't ever feel badly for yourself.
I did not do it. You did it. What do you mean?
Yes, you did.
You just aggregated him.
You did it too.
I aggregated him. You and David Sampson are having look.
I aggregated him.
You do David Sampson no good when you call afterward, "Hey, so sorry. I'm an idiot."
I aggregated him.
Yes, he wanted to talk about something.
Amazing.
You made it worse. Did he or did he not, David?
It was so shocking how badly he made it worse that it made me laugh, actually, because aggregating is one thing. But when Zaz sort of leads with it in such a clumsy way with incorrect facts based on simply the aggregation, you've got a lot of Roar and reach these days, as you know, Zaz.
He forgets sometimes. He forgets when there are two people at City Hall.
Exactly.
Multiple.
So it lasted an extra day or two, Zaz, but I am back doing radio with the very people who were absolutely furious with what I said and said how unacceptable I am in every way.
Well, but can we.
And when they called to ask me to come on the show for free.
All right, can we fix the conversation? Can we fix the conversation, though? We'll do that in a second. I want to get to something. Roy had a very good idea in the penalty box, and I think we need to implement it and get behind it. This show needs to work to change the name of the city of Plantation.
I'm on it.
Like publicly, we need to work. We need to create a groundswell to the day after.
Dan, that's a great idea you just came up with, Dan. I love that. Why don't we call it Codyville?
Am I taking crazy pills?
That's a good idea, Roy.
I think this is the.
I think this is the place where we get the other website going, we'replantationpeople.com. I believe that we get.
We were Plantation People.
Oh, good one.
Yes, yes, but we in a progressive America. Look, did you see what the color of our government changed? We are progressive. Let's change the name of Plantation because Greg should not be the king of plantations.
Great idea, Roy.
You understand I have to abstain from this, right? Like I live in Plantation. I didn't name the city. You don't have to abstain. Don't be a coward. We need to get.
We'll hide him. We'll shield him from any fallout. We'll take the blame for renaming the city.
It's a stupid name in 2026. That and the mascot.
Greg.
Codyville.
Greg, may I just.
Yeah.
Greg, I'd like to point out to you that I lived in Plantation as well when I was president of the team.
David.
And I actually sought professional advice on whether I needed to move.
Really?
Yes, because I was concerned that it would somehow that Plantation this was when all of this was happening, all of the renaming and all of the this and the that. And what I was told is that the story behind Plantation, Florida is actually not. And I never researched it, confirmed it because I had the backing of a professional who would back me if it ever became a story. And the story was that Plantation, Florida is not named after a plantation in the sense of that you're thinking as in slaves.
So we, well, now you are completely off the hook and have to wear proudly the fact that you are king of Plantation.
We're Plantation people.
No, we can get the.
Let's keep the movement going to get the name changed.
That actually makes it easier for us because there's no real controversy here. It's just fun.
No, I'd prefer the real controversy.
Well, we're creating controversy.
You don't get it, Jeremy. We're changing the name.
Jeremy, take a chance.
No, you know what? You're right.
Take a chance, Jeremy.
How do you think the city of Plantation feels about the last 24 hours? They feel like they did a nice thing for Greg Cody.
In their jaundiced room, gave an old man surrounded by a bunch of old white people a prize in Plantation?
I think you need to take a look in the mirror, Dan. This is poor. This is poor form, and it's pretty disrespectful. And there's times to have that conversation about the name of the city, probably not hours after they honored your best friend.
Yeah, Mike.
Who you've already had a sordid month with.
Yeah, Mike's right.
We're Plantation people.

The holidays should be about the people you love. Not mandatory work parties where I pretend to care about someone's kitchen renovation. Now's the time for those unexpected holiday side quests and enjoying a great tasting light beer. Last year, mine was my cousin's garage, a Miller Lite, and a four-hour debate over the best Christmas movie. Dan would make it a segment, then argue the other side on purpose. Best night of the season. Tiz Miller time. In that garage, I felt great. I took a sip. I looked around and thought, "Yeah, this was the right call."

Dan Le Batard.
16.
Greg Cody.
Take the rest of the day off.
This is the Dan Le Batard Show.
So Sampson, how were you misrepresented last week by Zazlow and others?
Oh, I never said that there's not going to be audio baseball. I said that you're not going to go to your AM dial. There's going to be a different way that the audio voices will be distributed because there's no money in audio AM radio. That was the fact. And of course, it offends people thinking that I didn't love certain voices. Vince Goliath.
People were so offended.
It's unbelievable, actually, but they just misunderstood and they don't realize that what I said is actually already happening because they were commenting like on their YouTube site while they were simulcasting their radio show. So it made me laugh. I need to return to something that has been bothering me since last night, and I was so lucky and thankful to be on your show today, Dan. Mike, when you got the news about Malachi Tony, the emotion you're showing, are you a fan or are you a booster and a businessman?
Because the first thing I thought of was the money that is being lost by the university potentially now with him hurt and what it could mean to their ability to go far in CFP, if at all, and how much money that would have meant to the school and the conference.
Malachi.
Do you think that way now or not?
I am a fan first and foremost, which is why I became a booster. And I'm also a businessman in that I have a Cain's media company. So the Malachi Tony injury kind of affects all those things deeply.
But in what order? That's what I'm asking.
Fan first. That's how I got involved. Yeah, fan first.
You know, David's asking the question because he can't imagine a world where people don't think money first. Like he's incapable of imagining.
It's going to switch, Dan, just so you know.
No.
It may not be today. There's going to be an inflection point, Mike. There will be an inflection point, I promise you, where it will be the it will go the other way. And I thought that would be today.
Mike, I don't think you get it.
I don't think you get it.
I don't think you get it.
The tipping point in terms of money spent came when.
You don't think that Sampson gets fandom? Really?
Yeah.
You don't think he knows how to take advantage of fandom?
Picking up on the sarcasm.
He's called that way. The first thing he thinks all the time, every time, no matter where there's emotion involved in the emotion business is, "Where's the money?"
Yeah, and also like fourth is the relationships involved too. I think about all the people that are affected by this, about how fragile everything is, about how one ankle injury can change the course of history and make a good year, a bad year. Like all of it is pretty sick. But it's why I care so much because when the day comes, and I was hoping it might come later in a couple of months, but who knows now. But when the day comes, it's going to be one of the most fulfilling, wonderful moments of my life. But right now, I'm in pure hell.
I think where David is wrong here is Mike's fandom brought him to the business side. David, your fandom didn't bring you to the business. Your career, your ambition brought you to the business side of sports, not your fandom. Yeah. But it's so seductive that it gets everyone caught in its web, definitionally. And it may not be today, Mike, but I just want you to be prepared for the fact that you're right. It will not be as amazing when they win the national championship as it would be if you were simply just a fan.
David, what? If I can, because I don't understand why you don't understand what your blind spot is here when you're looking at Mike. Sometimes you wander around life and it seems like you're trying to look at human beings trying to understand how you too can be one. Like when it comes to fandom, you don't really understand it for sports because the business has saturated you, but you do understand it for movies and music, which is weird, right?
No, I was a really big fan of sports, actually. And I remember the day. I remember the feeling. I told you I felt better when the Knicks made the finals in '94 than I did when the Marlons won the World Series. It felt totally different, way better.
That's crazy.
What happened.
That's crazy.
I'm just telling you the truth about the way it was inside me. It was super exciting to win a penalty in the World Series. Like really cool, really good for the business, really good for everything. But being a fan is just way better. But you're both crossing the streams, Mike. You're a fan of the very same entity where you are in business. And there will come a moment that you will be forced to make a choice. And the choice will always be business.
I think there's.
And you don't see it now, but it's going to happen.
No, ultimately, the choice is my integrity and what I follow my own convictions. But there've been plenty of those crossroads. Look, I'm not even saying my way is the right way. It's just the way that I prefer. And a lot of people think it's silly to donate as much money to a school that I didn't go to. And I hear all the criticisms. What I value is the relationships I built. I think from a networking standpoint, this relationship with the school and its boosters.
I think it's going to feel even better for you.
Has brought a lot to the table. I've made lifelong friendships, and I care for a lot of people in that program. And it was something that I grew up with. I grew up going to the Orange Bowl. I grew up rooting for that. It means a lot to me. And while a lot of people think it's silly, all right, that's how I choose to live my life.
Okay, so like David, you said the Knicks making the finals in '94 felt better than the Marlons winning in '03. What if instead of being executive with the Marlons, you weren't executive with the Knicks, your childhood team, and you won? I would have felt great satisfaction. I thought about it when I was interviewing to run the Knicks. I thought about what that would mean when I would possibly win as an executive for the Knicks. And I remember thinking to myself that it will be forever different.
The relationship with the team will be forever different. And that was fine by me. It was not a big issue, actually. Just not firing Isaiah Thomas ended up being the problem there. But it was for me understanding that there's a fan world and a business world. And the first thought when Tony got injured for me was business, much like when a pitcher walks off the mound and you know that it's Tommy John or they're flexing in a way that you know that's a year. It is so unbelievably awful knowing what a player has to go through to rehab.
It is very lonely. It is very difficult. And I have great empathy for it, whether it's an ACL, an Achilles, a Tommy John. But your mind immediately goes to, all right, what's next? What do we do for the business in order to keep it going? Because tomorrow or Saturday, there's a game against Notre Dame. And Christopher Ball is not in that clubhouse saying, "Oh, man, we're screwed. They're next man up. Let's go. We're here to win a national championship." And that's the harsh part about this game.
David, you were the Marlons president for a lot of years. Would you describe yourself back then as a ardent baseball fan or not? Because my theory is you don't have to be a fan of the sport to be a great club president.
We actually didn't want to hire fans of the sport. Fans of the sport end up wanting to watch batting practice and hang out with players and not it's why everyone wants to be in sports until they get into sports. And then all of a sudden, they leave because there's not a lot of money in it. And it's not as glamorous as you think. You're not hanging out with Giancarlo Stanton. So yeah, it's something that I think about all the time in terms of it's just a business. And you have to look at it like that or else you just won't be good. Which probably informs Greg a lot of parts of my life, which you call robotic and I just call efficient.
The election changed a lot of things about this country, but there is a sports tie. Many people don't know that a lot of the local elections mean boards of college football, university, and traditional powers, they're going to look a little different. And a lot of people are confused as to what that might be. One of the most influential boosters in the nation at Texas Tech, one of the main power brokers. He might be out of a job soon. But here is an article from Ross Dellinger, and here's a quote from that article. If you want a quote, here it is. The aide said, "The NIL bill is dead on bleeping a rival."
Your take.
I did an entire segment on this that is I'd like to just say what I didn't get to say on nothing personal. One of the things about the midterm elections is people end up voting and deciding what matters to them. And we can talk about the corruption. We can talk about the power and the power grab by Trump. And we can talk about how bad things are with the climate and everything else. People actually really vote in a selfish way. They vote about how they're feeling themselves, about their life, about their money situation, about promises that may have been made that didn't happen.
The Protect College Sports Act, that is something that for regular people, regular voters, they're not focused on that. When everything happened, the blue wave that happened, the result is that that Protect College Sports Act is done. But that was not in anyone's mind when they were voting at all, in my opinion. It's collateral damage to it. And there is no way to resuscitate it now. It's going to wait for another day, another session, another year, another midterm. But there were a thousand things like that that are proceeding in a certain way, including judicial appointments, US attorney appointments.
We're talking about people's lives. And I'm not commenting on whether it was a great day or a bad day. To me, it was a great day yesterday. However.
You are commenting.
A lot of lives got impacted.
You did just comment on it. You said you're not commenting.
It's just keep going, Dan.
You wanted to sit on the fence.
I'm not commenting on that.
And then you commented on it. You wanted to be a fence sitter and then you didn't. You got off the fence and then you said it was a great day.
I'm never a fence sitter. I have a very, very tight tush. There's no fence sitting for me.
Interesting.
So the point is that a lot of lives changed.
Please.
And part of it was NIL and Protect College Sports Act. That is not going to happen. And you talked about Texas. That was a big topic of mine. That's a huge deal that people don't think about where the regents are chosen by a person. And when you change the person, it's like bringing in if Dan were replaced by someone, we're all in jeopardy. That's part of life. It's when a new owner comes in or a new team president, people change out. That will happen on the regents, on the board of regents. And that's a very powerful position that just like that disappears.

Dan Le Batard.
Can't wait for 39.
Yeah, I can't either. 40 comes first.
Do you know what 40 is yet?
Not yet.
See, what are we doing here?
Greg, did you just laugh? Did you just laugh out loud at something Louis said in your ear?
Greg Coty.
Yes. I couldn't help it. It was funny. Thanks, Louis. Gagging the goose.
Of course.
Choking the frog. I mean, there's a million of them.
Of course.
Half of them would sound dirty if we keep doing it.
This is the Dan Le Batard Show.
Let's get the reaper, please, so that David Samson, we can get him in a costume. We got a lot of costumes today. You know that pleases me, even though I secretly deny it. What's going on with the who shrunk the reaper? That's far less menacing than it used to be. I mean, you can't have is that Brad Williams? You can't.
Stop it.
I got the Patriots. They are, as I've said.
Third home against the Packers, three-point favorite.
I don't like that.
I don't like that.
I don't like that.
Three-point favorite.
I don't know why I don't like it, but I don't like it.
The Jordan Love got our big game.
The Texans.
The Texans are at the.
It's a good one. Upgrade.
They are at the Chargers. They're four and a half point favorite.
Oh, the Chargers are going to win against somebody.
Chargers are due.
Yeah, Chargers are due for sure.
Is McConkie playing?
Yeah. Played last week.
Good leg.
Since one of their lone bright spots.
Since a very small person.
Reaper's a person? Put it on the poll at Le Batard Show. Is the grim reaper a person?
No, this is the Jets. And they're a nine and a half point.
They're at the Chiefs. Nine and a half.
I'm going to put that one back.
Samson, do you have a preference on who picks for you?
No. I believe in everyone equally.
Raiders.
You would not fit in Greg Coty's plantation.
I somehow got a worse line. Raiders are plus 10 at the Niners. That's a loss.
There are a lot of bad lines this week. There are a lot of just big favorites.
All right, I'm done with the grim reaper.
I owe you a costume, Dan.
Same, Ramajan.
Some of my favorite words.
Vikings. Ooh, Monday night against the Bills.
He owes me a costume. Roy, I need you to pay attention to the show.
We have one ready for you. Don't you worry. I think Bills are going to beat the Vikings on Monday night. I'm going to put that back.
We're a bold take there, buddy.
You and the rest of America.
Fricking Raiders, man. Panthers against the Broncos.
Is that Alex Maribel?
Just talk to me how.
Read past the University of Miami's offensive line coach. That is the tiniest reaper I've ever seen. It looks like a child. Do we have a child doing this?
Underdog.
So the smallest favorite in the pros is the Panthers at home as a two and a half point underdog against the Broncos.
I'm putting it back.
A lot of putbacks this week.
Dolphins. Seven-point dog at home. Oh, another old boy from Greg Coty in the wild.
This has been bloody. This has been a tough one.
There are a lot of bad lines here.
We all have dogs.
Oh my God. I am getting aroused.
Now he's got Joe Milton.
Roy, you have to say the team.
Yeah, Eagles.
No, Joe Milton's terrible.
That pause there for a second.
He's been terrible today. The Eagles. I like this watchdog character of Tony. Just keep the energy when you're bad. I'm always bad.
Makes me laugh every time he says, "I meant to text him the other day."
Another dog.
Somebody's been terrible to me. It's such a brutal axe to hit someone in the neck with. Like they're working hard.
He has been terrible to that.
The Colts are six-point underdogs against the Cowboys.
And he tells his boss.
Like cattle.
Snitches, man.
You know the gift.
And he's never wrong.
It's a good bit. No.
I was fine yesterday.
100% accuracy. No, you weren't.
It's never been wrong.
It's never been wrong. I'll give that to Tony.
It's the most successfully accurate thing we do. He's always right. And he says it a lot.
Vikings, okay.
The Bills, right?
He walks into his boss's office, and he points at the room and tells his boss, "The Colts have been bad."
I've gotten.
Play by play here. He put the Vikings back.
I think that's Roy's first time being terrible.
What'd you get?
Falcons.
Man, this has been a brutal, brutal bucket. They're a three-point dog at home against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Nice.
And we've all pulled dogs multiple times.
You put back a Packers.
But they've already been taken. So can I pick again for the first time?
No.
How'd you put that back?
You can put it back, but you can't pick again.
Why does the Dolphins come in?
We have two Dolphins helmets?
We do have two Dolphin helmets.
You know what? That's fair.
That's not it.
Dan, that's dangerous.
I got the Chiefs, and I'm going to keep them. All right, finally, a good pull.
Falcons.
I'm going to wait a second before I pull because I want to examine this thing that Tony has done that has made me closer to him. His accuracy on who's terrible is so good that I'm reminded, "Yeah, I was thinking the same thing." And so every time he says it, is it exactly the same time as I was like, "You're so right. You're so right." And Roy, he's so right about you today.
What?
The Bengals is who I pick.
That's for you? Okay.
And I think I want them. Don't I?
They're a favorite at the Falcons. Three-point favorite.
Do I?
I like it against the Falcons.
Where you going?
Reaper, hold on.
I don't know that I want that.
All right, so put it back.
You don't know if you want a three-point favorite.
I think I can do better. I think I can do better.
Whoa, this is a whoa from Funny View's experience.
No, I threw the helmet somebody gave me back in there.
I gave it to you.
Seahawks.
Seahawks.
That's got to be good.
Drew Lock against the Cardinals.
Wait, no. That line can't be right the way we have it written.
I've got the Seahawks as a 12 and a half point dog.
I think that's just the opposite. I'm going to go out on that.
You want to say that's wrong.
Sam Darnold's out.
Seahawks are the favorite.
Sam Darnold's out.
Mitchu did look good.
I'm like a dog with a bone on this one.
Worth noting two things about the bucket this week. Last week's losers were Dan, Mike, and myself. Also, Zazlow just gave up his golden helmet of life. I am not reminding anyone. They have the golden helmet of life, so he just picked the Chiefs. He does have one more week remaining.
Wait, what?
You didn't have to pick. And now let's pick for David Samson. You had three weeks off, and you picked anyway.
No, once you pick, you pick. That's it. I'm not reminding anybody that they have it.
No, but I'll use it next week.
Yes, David?
Yeah, you have one more week.
Great.
I'm raw dogging it.
You what?
I'm raw dogging it. Whatever you pick, I'm keeping.
Oh, okay.
I like that.
Like first pick? You're just going to ride with that?
First pick.
I'll do it for him.
That's it.
Raw dogging it.
He has underdog.
Pick any underdog.
So we get to pick for him the underdog, right?
He gets to pick.
He gets to pick.
We just did cover the Seahawks are a 12 and a half point dog at home, according to this paper.
I'll take it.
No, the Panthers are the smallest dog. If you want the Panthers, they're at home against the Broncos.
I've got the Panthers.
Yeah, somebody's already got it.
No, you can pick.
You can double up.
You guys are now going to talk about what the rules of this should be when we pick two dolphin helmets?
Well, apparently, that was with intention.
That was a truthful if I'm being truthful, yes, we upped the odds of being able to select the Dolphins. We want more punishments. That team sucks. We thought they lose every game. We doubled up with Dolphins helmets. We should have to suffer the wrath of our team eating them.
David, what's your pick?
Can you just name five underdogs for me?
The Panthers are two and a half point underdog. The Falcons are a three-point. The Browns are a three-point underdog.
Fox are a six-point dog.
Chargers, four and a half. This is good radio. The Packers are a three-point.
Chargers.
Chargers.
Chargers.
He wants to dress up. He wants to dress up. He wants the attention.
They're going to win a game.
He wants to be in a costume.
Now, the they're do theory.
Can I explain the pick? I'm a winner either way. Because if the Chargers win, then I win this, and I don't have to dress up. If the Chargers lose, I get to do another segment where I'm going to be right that Mike McDaniel is going to get fired. And I've been calling for it for three straight weeks. I'm eventually going to get that way to see right. So by having the Chargers in the bucket of death, I am a winner either way.
Speaking of the Chargers, Will Anderson, he was at the podium. Will Anderson's probably on pace for defensive player of the year. Dan, he's one of the best pass rushers in the league. He's been incredible all season. I want you guys to take a look and listen to this.
Multiple seasons.
Multiple seasons. But I want to take a listen to this and see try to figure out who he's talking about here.
Yeah, he's still a really great quarterback in this league. You talk about a big guy who has a big arm that can run around, that can throw the ball deep, makes a lot of plays with his legs. He's still a very respectable player in this league, and we have a ton of respect for them. As far as scheme, we're going to probably see a lot of bounce. McDaniel, he's went against this defense a lot of times, coached against this defense was at San Fran, I believe. So we know what to expect a little bit. But Herbert, man, he's playing out his mind. They have a really great solid O-line as well, and some really good running backs that can get downhill, that can hit the perimeter. So it's going to be a good challenge.
Bit of a tell in there, Tony.
Michael Pennick.
He's talking about Justin Herbert? He said he's playing out of his mind. The offensive line is great, and their running backs are amazing. Is he watching the right team?
Tony.
Hold on. I'm doing a thing here. Hold on.
He's trying to power through.
Give me a second. You can't do that to me.
Tony.
I do it to you. I do it to you.
You've been bad today.
No, it's impossible. It's impossible. Dan, is he watching the same film we're watching? Because he says that the scheme has been great. Herbert's been great. Herbert's thrown interceptions to guys on the other team.
No, I didn't say he's been playing great. He's been playing out of his mind.
Out of his mind, Dan.
Samson, what are you shaking your head about?
Because Tony, you screwed up the edit. You could have played all of that, but stopped it like 10 seconds earlier, and your whole thing is awesome. But you kept it. I don't know if you listened in advance. You're not doing your job. You got to listen to what they cut.
Don't tell me I'm not doing my job.
You've been telling everyone that they're terrible at their job. You've been telling everybody. And I've agreed with you. And on this one, I disagree with you, that you've been doing your job correctly. You're going to have to leave the room. Herbert, he said it during the clip. I'd prefer to go to a Gardner-Mitchu.
Ooh, I like that one too.
Minor penalty, two minutes. Delay of show.
I'd like to get to Gardner-Mitchu gutting a fish because I'm scared of him because.
Cleave show yourself out.
Every once in a while, Gardner-Mitchu will throw out a couple of good games in a row, and people will believe he will be a starting quarterback. This hat, this look, is he wearing jean shorts? There have been very few quarterbacks like this, and there are presently none in the league like this. Lot of chess hair.
Yeah, so I was out fishing, and I get this call to come play for Arizona. And I said, "It was cool. As long as I always have fresh worms in my locker."
He's stoned there, no?
That was my takeaway.
Put on the pole has Kent Stabler.
Put on the pole at Le Batard Show has Gardner-Mitchu played stoned. What were you thinking? You think Ken Stabler, Kenny Stabler, would gut a fish during a press conference?
That's what I was reminded of watching that clip, that that's how I would picture Kenny Stabler doing a presser would be like that. Sort of, I don't really give a crap.
Gutting a fish. Gutting a fish.
It's not about gutting a fish. The point is, it was a very laissez-faire attitude. I thought that was your point here, that, "Hey, you have an opportunity now that you didn't have. How great is that?" And that he's trying to be funny and quirky, but this is a serious moment for him, in my opinion.
What?
In his career, the chance to start is what David's talking about.
Yes. Yes.
He's done before.
He's gutting a fish in a press conference. He's going to Seattle and playing one of the best defenses in the league. Everyone knows he's a backup. He's not a starter.
But I'm with David. If their head coach is looking at this, we're doing schtick. You finally have your chance to start, and you're wearing a fishing hat.
Are you not familiar with what the Mitchu brand is? It's exactly this. It's been this since college.
If I'm the head coach of the Cardinals, I'm putting my hand on my forehead, just like Paul.
Put it on the pole at Le Batard Show. Should Mitchu play in jean shorts? That's who this guy is. What are you talking about? It's the whole thing. He comes out every once in a while and surprises you by breaking old Jerry Jones's heart when they put him in a game. And then Burset, that'll end your career every time. Get out of here.
That can't be proper cutting technique too. I mean, he's about to cut his.
And look at his fingernails.
Making me nervous.
You don't want a sushi chef with 30 fingernails.
David, what's the movie you're reviewing for us today?
I'm reviewing a show on Apple TV called Brothers that just finished yesterday with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson playing themselves in a show that's based on a true rumor.
No, that's True Detective.
No, it's called Brothers. True Detective, they were characters.
True Detective is the one they were good in. This one stinks.
I loved it. I loved the Supertramp opening song. It's the only show that I've watched in a super long time where I never skipped the intro song. Always I press skip intro, but in this one, I loved the feel of hearing Give a Little Bit, which is a Supertramp song. Give a little bit, give a little bit of your love for anyway. And the show itself.
Don't do that ever again.
Is them. And they are so entertaining. It is eight quick episodes. I strongly suggest it. The question is, are they really brothers in real life? Holland Taylor plays the mother of Matthew McConaughey, and everyone in it is just pitch perfect, including Matthew and Woody, in their best roles they've had since Dallas Spires Club and Cheers, in my opinion.
What?
Although Natural Born Killers was very, very good.
What?
David.
True Detective. I watched the first 30 minutes of it and turned it off because the writing was so bad.
But then you got into episode two because each episode is below 30 minutes. And by episode three, you're so invested in what's happening, and it's just.
I didn't even make it 30 minutes. 15 minutes, I made it through writing.
So I have a different criteria. I want to be sometimes escape and entertained, and I want to not have to think about things. And it's a perfect I'm not looking for it to win an Oscar or a Pulitzer. I'm looking to be entertained for 27 minutes at a time for eight Wednesdays in a row, and it worked. Why can't I have that as my review? I don't quite understand your point.
See you later, David.
Okay.
Just we're out of time. That's all. We're just out of time. That's it. And you don't understand fandom.
I have a very, very tight tush.
