Episode summary

This episode of The MeidasTouch Podcast examines how some of Donald Trump's most loyal supporters are distancing themselves from him after Republicans lost both the House and Senate in the midterms. Ben Meiselas walks through social media posts, video messages and podcast clips from MAGA influencers and former allies, including Marjorie Taylor Greene, who argues that Trump betrayed his supporters.

Listeners will hear competing explanations for the defeat, from the Iran war and the Epstein files to AI policy and cost of living, and learn what the departures could mean for Trump's hold on the MAGA movement. The host presents these views as reported claims rather than settled facts.

Donald Trump's remaining supporters, the few that were left, are now abandoning him after the complete and utter defeat in the House, in the Senate, in these state legislative races. Donald Trump was posting, "I wasn't on the ballot, and if I was, I would have won in a landslide." And you're getting all of these responses from Trump supporters on his social media platform, like, "It's time to take some ownership, sir." Sir, don't lift a leg in my face and tell me it's raining or MAGA-mimi. This is not very presidential, especially for all people who support you.

Makes me angry for you to post this. This is a disaster, and all you've done may be in huge jeopardy. And then you had these, like, MAGA influencers, podcasters, people like Matt Walsh, and here's what they were posting: "I have to check the exit polling, but can anyone tell me what percentage of voters were primarily concerned with renaming AI to SI and making sure the White House ballroom was renovated?" Oh, exactly. 0%. Wow. Okay. Matt Walsh goes, "I've been vocally opposed to the war in Iran from the moment it was launched and have said so explicitly many times here and on my show."

I don't know. You and the MAGA influencers seem to be basically saying, "Donald Trump promised it was 4 to 6 weeks. It'll be short. It'll be short. We'll see what he does." Utter catastrophe, like we said it was going to be. We should never have been there in the first place. Donald Trump and Netanyahu engaged in war crimes both deserve to be handed over to the Hague along with Hegseth and others in this despicable regime. Matt Walsh goes, "Regular Americans are worried about AI taking their jobs." Trump's response was to insist on giving AI a fun new name.

He had no plan to address the actual concern people have. And this is the blue wave in a nutshell: relentlessly focused on the shit nobody cares about at the expense of things they do care about. He goes on to say, "What do regular Americans worry about in the first five minutes after they wake up in the morning? They worry about their kids, their bills, how they'll afford to pay the mortgage and fill the tank." Pause. But then why do you and all the MAGA influencers inject all of these culture wars and then attacks on marginalized communities to divide the American people?

Because you want to divide and spread your hate. And now that you've lost big, this is what you're posting. He goes on to say, "They Americans don't worry about Iran or renovating the White House or any of the numerous other things Trump spent the last year rambling about. Republicans do not speak to the issues that directly and immediately impact regular Americans. They do not present a compelling plan to deal with those issues. That's why they're getting crushed, and they deserve it." And then finally, he says, "Trump launched an unpopular and pointless war.

Gas prices are too high. People can't afford groceries. Trump abandoned the American First Message. This is why Republicans are getting crushed. It's very simple." Then you have this guy named Brillan Holland or Brylen Holland, and he kind of fancies himself as this masculine alpha MAGA guy. Okay. And he's like, "I'm the new Charlie Kirk." That's how he tries to, like, brand himself. Well, after the utter destruction and defeat of MAGA last night, he posted, "Politics are temporary.

Faith is eternal." Well, let me show you what he was saying earlier yesterday. Then I'm going to show you the message that he posted where he was like, "And here's why the agenda failed. Here's why it failed." So here's what he posted early in the morning. Brilan, Brillan, Holland. He goes, "Here's my final prediction. We'll see if I'm an idiot or not." Folks, I'll jump to the conclusion. He's an idiot. But here's what he says. "It's not a blue tsunami, but it's a wake-up call to the GOP. Overall, Dems got too euphoric, too early, and kicked up their feet while Republicans locked in during October on Gen Z and disenfranchised Democrats.

We will flip Michigan. We will lose North Carolina. We defend our other Senate seats, keeping us at 53, but we will lose the House. Closer than expected, but still double-digit Dem margins. It's a good night for Dem governors and Dems in the South, and that's an area we need to strengthen before 2028. Young men don't vote blue. They just sit at home. We also have to gain back their trust before 2028. Don't like what you're reading? Then put your phone down. Go vote right now.

Cause a red wave and prove me wrong. I dare you." Well, you were very wrong. There was a freaking blue tsunami because people are rejecting your weirdness because you are a freaking weird dude. And, you know, he would make all of these posts like, you know, "Let me explain to you, like, as a as a MAGA who who who always gets discriminated against for my toxic masculinity." Okay, here is the video message that he recorded. "Here's why we lost.

Don't give up," he posts here. Play this clip right here.

What the heck just happened? The socialist won. Republicans lost. How did it happen? Well, did you think a Muslim takeover of America would have no consequences? Did you think a wide open southern border and mass immigration replacing Americans with foreign citizens would not result in a communist takeover of this country? Did you think a month-long foreign war would not lose the trust of Gen Z? Did you think that Congress, having a longer taxpayer-funded recess than actual accomplishments, more excuses than bills, would have no repercussions at the ballot box?

Did you think that putting candidates on the ballot who just got there because of their last name or because of how old they were, but not because of how young and energetic and exciting they were, would not result in anything but lackluster turnout? Wake up. I know what you're going to say. Trump wasn't on the ballot. You're right. But Trump's not going to be on the ballot in 2028. What's our plan then? Are we supposed to get used to losing? I don't know about y'all, but I'm competitive, and I'm not giving up on our party or my generation, and I refuse to let the socialists win. I believe strongly that politics is temporary and faith is eternal.

There's some plan to all this, and I don't know what it is yet, but I don't really care if you're offended right now. Oh, my gosh, you're clutching your pearls. How could he say that? You can't hate me more than I love this country. And I'm determined to make sure that between now and 2028, we earn back Gen Z's trust and not act entitled to it like we did tonight.

And by the way, you have other MAGA people kind of responding to, like, this Gunther Eagleman post. He's a big MAGA extremist. Prediction: Ken Paxton beats James Talarico by 18 points in November. Texas will rebuke the woke ideology. Bigly. Bookmark this. Then someone goes, "What happened, man? What happened?" Let's take a look at what Marjorie Taylor Greene was posting as well. Marjorie Taylor Greene was saying that, you know, let me post it up, pull it up. She goes, "Trump's biggest betrayal to the American people isn't what he failed to do.

It's what he promised not to do and did anyway. We gave President Trump our support. We gave him our money. We gave him our vote. We gave him our time, and we got behind him publicly, and he didn't deliver. President Trump only delivered for his rich, powerful, elite friends who are part of the Epstein class. He delivered for his high-dollar donors, big tech friends, for foreign countries, and for foreign war," she says. Then she went on the Tim Cass Podcast, like this ultra MAGA right-wing podcast with Tim.

What's the guy? Tim Pool is the guy's name. And they were all basically talking about Trump's betrayal. And this was a big MAGA podcast. And obviously, you know, Marjorie Taylor Greene left. But it's fascinating that she's on this MAGA bro sphere podcast, you know, weirdo crew. And, you know, they're all talking about, yeah, you know, Trump's cover-up of the Epstein files and all of this. Here, play this clip.

It's brutal.

Speaker 500:08:39

It is.

Speaker 400:08:40

This is worse than I thought. I was saying, like, I think it'll be bad. I think Demos won. I don't think it'll be that bad. And it's worse.

No, I fully expected this. I really did. And, you know, I always used to say, being in Congress, serving as a Republican in Congress, I always felt like I was strapped in on the front row of a roller coaster. And, you know, when you're in that front row seat, you you can see what's coming next. You see the turns, you see the hills, you see the downhills. And I think that's why I saw it so early. I had gotten in fights with the president over, like, the moratorium on state rights having to do with AI and data centers. And I was totally against it.

He was for it. I got in a fight with him over his crypto bill, the Genius Act. He it had a loophole for a central bank digital currency, and I refused to vote for his bill. So we had our falling outs on issues that are important to people. But the Epstein files, I just I couldn't do it.

Speaker 400:09:35

I think.

Speaker 500:09:36

In the Iran war.

Speaker 400:09:37

I think he's using it as compromise, the Epstein files, like he's blackmailing the deep state with it, but he can't tell us that.

Speaker 500:09:42

No, I don't think he's being blackmailed.

Speaker 400:09:44

I don't I don't I don't.

Speaker 500:09:46

No.

Speaker 400:09:47

We've got a we've got an eclectic bunch of I disagree. I think that there is a bit of what Ian is saying. I think it's a bit of what you are saying, and I think it's heavy to a lot to do with the Saudis. I think that there's a lot of stuff in the Epstein files that are probably really bad for the Saudis. I think one of the reasons we're at war with Iran, and this is one of our Timcast members who shot who brought this up, and I thought it was a great, excellent point that the petrodollar deal expired. The Saudis wanted a regime change in Iran. The Epstein files probably implicate Saudi princes and other individuals.

And I'm not saying it's the only reason, but he's basically like, okay, so he's going to go to war with Iran because U.S. partners in the Middle East, which includes Israel and Saudi Arabia, are basically like, we all want this. Israel for different reasons. Obviously, they're pressuring them. They want war. Saudis are saying they're they're negatively impacting our traffic in the Red Sea and our oil sales. Trump, do it or else. And so Trump was like, whatever you say.

Speaker 500:10:41

Well, I'll only go based on literally just information that I'm sure of. I really don't speculate into too much I'm not sure of. And when it comes to the Epstein files, I spoke with many of the women who are victims of Jeffrey Epstein and other men, and they were very, very certain. They have a list of men that has not come out in the Epstein files. There's been many names redacted, and there's still millions of pages that have not been released. And that's why Thomas Massie has introduced another resolution to push to release the rest of the Epstein files.

And so I've I've listened to these women and seen them tell their stories, and they they have all said, when we see all these names come out, we we will know that the files are fully released, but they haven't been released yet.

Ben Meiselas00:11:31

Then you got Steve Chung, Donald Trump's communication director. Here was his message. Donald J. Trump is the president of the United States. Still your president. Bro, you're a loser. I mean, you're just it's Stephen Chung. Come on, man. Elon Musk was posting away last night. Data centers in space looking pretty appealing right now. Guess my election interfering space lasers didn't work this time. Greed can be satisfied. Envy cannot. True, he says.
