Episode summary

In this episode, Ben Meiselas reports on Fox News hosts calling for resignations after Republicans suffered heavy losses in the midterm elections. He walks through on-air reactions, including calls for Chief of Staff Susie Wiles to step down, debates over whether the Iran war hurt the party, and commentary on Democratic gains in Texas and elsewhere.

Meiselas argues that the network is turning on the administration, and the discussion also covers blame over billionaire spending and the economy. Listeners will hear how the blame game is unfolding inside the Republican media ecosystem.

Ben Meiselas00:00:57

State regime media which calls itself Fox News is out for blood. They're calling for resignations of the top Trump officials. For example, Jesse Waters, one of the top Fox propagandists, posted the following last night: "Caroline Sunshine wants to see resignations after the midterm shellacking. Susie Wiles needs to resign." That's Donald Trump's chief of staff. And in this segment that Jesse Waters reposted, he basically endorses the idea of his guest, Caroline Sunshine, that not just Susie Wiles needs to resign, but other top Trump officials need to resign.

There needs to be someone to take the fall for this catastrophic shellacking that just took place of the MAGA Republicans in the House, in the Senate, in the state legislative races across the entire country, in the governor's races. Watch what Jesse Waters just posted. Let's play it.

Speaker 400:01:51

Well, look, there's a few things that have to happen. I'm going to say publicly what a lot of people are saying privately. Susie Wiles needs to resign. She needs to offer her resignation to the president before he has to ask for it. Her campaign skills have not translated into governing. Susie was behind the historic win in 2024, and she deserved credit for it and got the top job for it. But now she's behind the historic loss, where we lost Mississippi and have lost potentially the Senate for six years. And so that cuts both ways.

I think if she loves and respects the president and his legacy, she'll do the right thing and step aside. Because on the current trajectory, we can't win in 2028 if we keep going down this current lane. And a lot of this was staff failure. A lot of this was strategy and messaging failure. It's the chief of staff's job to manage the staff. James Blair, the president's top political advisor, should not have been over in a pro-Russian state a month before a wipeout election. He should have been in Michigan. Why wasn't the staff out messaging? Abdul Al-Sayed came on this network three times.

The president's staff was not out there on CNN and MS Now and podcasts carrying his message.

Ben Meiselas00:03:00

Then you had Laura Ingraham, one of Donald Trump's top propagandists at state regime media. Even she is basically turning against him. And she's like, well, I guess we're going to have to see this. This is what we're going to have to get used to. Here, play this clip.

Speaker 500:03:14

All right, get used to a lot more of this.

Speaker 600:03:17

My name is Abdul Rahman Mohammad Al-Sayed. Tonight we can turn that, inshallah, into a alhamdulillah.

Speaker 700:03:29

You just beat Donald Trump again. People are saying enough is enough.

Speaker 800:03:37

Trump and the billionaires need to understand one thing very clear. I don't owe them a damn thing.

Ben Meiselas00:03:44

Then you had Brett Baier, one of the Fox propagandists, say, so is woke coming back. Here, play this clip.

Speaker 900:03:54

Is woke coming back? I mean, that was not something that we saw in the poll numbers.

Ben Meiselas00:03:58

Then we heard from Fox propagandist Jesse Waters, and he's like, look, it's pretty clear. The American people said, screw you, Donald Trump. Screw you, Republican Party. They hate us. I guess they hate us, Jesse Waters said on live TV. Play this clip.

Speaker 1000:04:15

But once they get a taste of it, oh, it's going to be fun, fun, fun. The economy, Iran, how do the Dems fix that? They can't even fix their party.

Speaker 1100:04:26

I think you're missing the bigger picture is that the American people, young men, white Americans said screw you to Donald Trump, said screw you to the Republican Party in places in the Deep South, in the Midwest.

Speaker 1000:04:41

What I'm saying is this happens.

Speaker 1100:04:42

And that's not just something that happens all of the time. That's a problem that the Republicans have. And the people are saying, yo, yo, you screwed up. Do something about it. And to say it's like every two years back and forth. They voted for Tallafrico, man. They voted for Abdul Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah. I mean, no one can really wrap their head around that.

Speaker 1200:05:03

In a whole suck. And I'm just.

Ben Meiselas00:05:05

Then you had Laura Ingraham bring in Republican Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis, who said, yep, Laura, this election was a rebuke of Donald Trump and Congress and Republicans in general. Here, play this clip.

Speaker 1000:05:22

And look, this midterm, no question, was a rebuke of the president and the Congress by Democrats, independents, and some Republicans that crossed over. But a lot of our voters who stayed home, they stayed home because they were frustrated with the lack of productivity from Republicans in the House and Senate. That's a fact. I think it was a big thing. And they didn't deliver it. So it's really both sides of Pennsylvania Avenue. It's not just one.

Ben Meiselas00:05:51

Back to Jesse Waters, who on live TV said, our entire coalition collapsed. We lost white people, he said. Here, play this clip.

Speaker 1100:06:01

But the coalition's totally collapsed. I mean, you lost whites? Whites? You can't do that if you're a Republican. Men, Hispanics, big time. And so it's going to take a while to put the coalition back together because it was in the heartland. So what happened was, so China, in order to pressure Trump in the trade war, stopped buying crops from the farmers. And then you do the Hormuz Strait squeeze and fertilizer and diesel go up. So whoa, they moved blue.

Ben Meiselas00:06:33

Then you had Will Kane, another Fox propagandist, and he said, then in Texas, Gina Hinojosa won and she beat Greg Abbott in the governor's race. And Will Kane's like, I don't even know who's Gina Hinojosa. Well, maybe if you actually did your job as a reporter, maybe Will Kane, you would know what a great campaign she won on the issues, running against the data centers, the invasion of privacy by Abbott, the Abbott regime taking away people's healthcare, the massive corruption.

Maybe you would have learned that. Here's what Will Kane said. Play this clip.

Speaker 1200:07:13

Speaking of Texas, if you want to know what happened across the country, take a look right here in the Lone Star State.

Speaker 1300:07:23

My mandate as the next U.S. Senator from Texas is to deliver for the people of my state, the people of this country, to bring down costs, to root out corruption. I am not interested in retribution.

Speaker 1400:07:35

Accountability does not stop at the doors of the governor's office. It begins there. There will be times when we disagree. But I promise you this, I will always tell you the truth.

Speaker 1200:07:51

James Tallawico's win may be a bit surprising. Gina Hinojosa ousting a three-term governor and Governor Greg Abbott with little money and no name recognition? Jaw-dropping. Who is Gina Hinojosa? Well, she's called for ending cooperation with ICE, something that she can do on day one. She has voted against what was essentially a ban on sanctuary cities, as well as against making it a state crime to cross illegally into Texas. So how in the hell do voters go for that in Texas?

Because there should be another border crisis in the coming years. And when there is, there will likely be no resistance to scenes like this. And it doesn't stop there. Democrats secured Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Agricultural Commissioner, Railroad Commissioner, completely down the ballot in Texas.

Ben Meiselas00:10:10

And then Will Kane's like really trying to cope with this on live TV. He's like, we woke up and it's a blue tsunami. This is the biggest loss we could have imagined. I never thought it would be this bad. Watch them freak out on state regime media. Play this clip.

Speaker 1200:10:27

Well, to state the obvious, we woke up today. Blue tsunami. Why, where, how? What does it mean for the future of America? The House, the Senate, the leaders of states, governors, Republicans getting handed about a big of an L as anyone could have possibly imagined. It's a Democrat sweep.

Ben Meiselas00:10:53

And we heard from Jesse Waters, and he's like, I don't know. Maybe the American people don't like it when Donald Trump and his oligarchs are out there doing like $70 million weddings and flaunting it on social media, how rich they are while the American people struggle to even afford a basic meal and they can't afford gas and they can't afford healthcare. Here, play this clip.

Speaker 1100:11:18

But I don't think also I think a lot of people like watching Billionaires spend $70 million on a wedding or pal around at the White House or fly their wives on joyrides in outer space. People don't like that. So they kind of seized the data centers and held it for ransom.

Ben Meiselas00:11:33

And which is notable too, because Jesse Waters was at that grand event for Xi Jinping that took place at the White House that Donald Trump still pretends was two weeks ago when Xi Jinping was there and Jesse Waters was having the time of his life with all the fancy champagne and all of that while the American people were suffering. By the way, Sean Hannity hasn't updated his talking points. He's still talking about Hassan Piker. It's like, yeah, Hassan Piker, just stop it.

Just stop it. Here, play this clip.

Speaker 1000:12:08

Number four, nobody in the Democratic Party stood up to Hassan Piker and that wing of the party. But the Inclusion Party, they did kick out Hailey Stevens. She's out of the party. That's what we're dealing with.

Ben Meiselas00:12:21

More from Hannity over here. He's like, I guess one of the lessons that we learned is, I don't know, maybe we shouldn't be that indecisive with the war. No, no, no. We shouldn't go to war. We shouldn't go to a catastrophic war with Netanyahu. We shouldn't be giving our taxpayer dollars to fund Netanyahu's war machine or for the United States to get involved in this catastrophic war in Iran and slaughter little children. This is never a war we should have been involved in. Hannity, play this clip.

Speaker 1000:12:50

And prosperous for our kids, our grandkids. Now, there are lessons to be learned. Let's go through those. Number one, the Iranian war. Yes, I absolutely stand by. It was the right call to prevent the Iranians, the radical number one state sponsor of terror, from getting nuclear weapons. Unfortunately, after that decision was made, there was some indecisiveness and it prevented a quick lasting outcome. And as a result, Americans did suffer by paying higher energy prices.

Democrats drove a truck through that. Americans are mad. It's time now to fix that problem.

Ben Meiselas00:13:26

But Hannity says, look, look, look. Can we just not point the finger at anybody? Here, play this clip.

Speaker 1000:13:31

So my message tonight is all hands on deck. Stay away from circular firing squads, finger-pointing, blame. Allow Democrats to show their true colors, as they are now doing, have real answers on the other side.

Ben Meiselas00:13:46

And Sean Hannity's like, could you believe that Abdul, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed to you, Senator Abdul El-Sayed to you, Hannity? He speaks Arabic? Did you know that he spoke Arabic? I never heard him do the Arabic during the campaign. Here, play this clip.

Speaker 1100:14:04

But you know, a lot of people took note of the fact that he spoke Arabic. I don't remember him doing that during the campaign. You may remember. I don't. But also, there's one thing you were pointing out.

Speaker 1000:14:13

I don't.

Ben Meiselas00:14:14

Talking about, then you had Governor DeSantis and Laura Ingraham saying, look, if we can't win Texas or Kansas or Iowa, we're done. The Republican Party is over. Here, play this clip.

Speaker 1000:14:28

So it's a big difference between Texas, which that was a potential extinction event there because they got swept out of everything from governor to the Supreme Court and even the House of Representatives. That is going to do damage, not just in Texas. It's going to hurt the Republican Party going forward. And if we can't win in places like Texas or Kansas or Iowa, we are not viable nationally.

Ben Meiselas00:14:54

Laura Ingraham's diagnosis, similar to J.D. Vance, that the catastrophic war cost the MAGA Republicans the election. I think it's much more than that. I think it was a major factor because that also contributed to the rising prices here. But also Trump's tariffs against the world, ICE and Border Patrol and Gestapo invading cities, Trump ripping away healthcare, shutting down rural hospitals, covering up child sex trafficking rings. That's also there, Laura Ingraham. We played that clip, right?

Speaker 1200:15:24

To me, it's pretty simple. They want things to get cheaper, and they generally, I think, want things to kind of calm down. And they hate war. And I mean hate war, especially if it means that they have to pay more for pretty much anything on the home front that requires energy, which to be sent or shipped, train, truck, any of it.

Ben Meiselas00:15:45

And then we'll show you this over here where you had Mark Theisen. He's a neocon warmonger on with Brett Baier. And Theisen was like, I don't like what J.D. Vance did. J.D. Vance issued a statement saying that it was the war in Iran. That's the reason that everybody lost the midterms. Isn't he kind of throwing Donald Trump under the bus? That's disloyal. That's disloyal. I mean, Mark Theisen's a neocon war hawk, so he would love to see more war in the region. But yeah, J.D.

Vance is throwing Donald Trump under the bus. And J.D. Vance, though, is complicit in the catastrophic war. J.D. Vance is a war criminal. J.D. Vance is complicit in covering up the Epstein files. He doesn't get a pass. Here, play this clip.

Speaker 1300:16:28

Well, first of all, I was kind of shocked by that statement that Vice President Vance put out. It was, quite frankly, disloyal to the president of the United States. He heard what he just said. He said, I did it and it might have affected the election, but I would have done it again because it was the right thing to do for our national security. And Dasha called him on her show yesterday and he said the same thing. He's been saying over and over again, it was the right thing to do. I didn't see Vice President Vance say it was the right thing to do. I didn't see him say Donald Trump is one of the most courageous presidents in my lifetime because he took this very difficult political decision and put the country ahead of his own political interests.

47 years, Iran has been waging war on us. He's the first president to fight back. I didn't hear any of that. All I heard was, we lost because of the Iran war. And if you want to defend that, go ahead. But.

Speaker 1000:17:10

But you're not.

Speaker 1300:17:12

You better make that case. Well, that's the exact case that Donald Trump is making. He's saying it was the right thing to do. Why is his vice president saying something different?

Ben Meiselas00:17:20

Because he wants to run for president?

Speaker 1300:17:21

Well, he needs Donald Trump's endorsement to run for president or he's not going to get the nomination. And if I was the vice president, I would not be taking a line contrary to Donald Trump when it comes to the Iran war right now.

Ben Meiselas00:17:32

Well, he also said, the president did, that Vice President Vance may not run for president. He said that today. And then you had a Fox host on the Will Kane show. He just smoking cigarettes. I mean, they're struggling to cope so much. Dude is just smoking cigarettes on live TV. It's like the 1940s or something. Here, play this clip.

Speaker 1100:17:52

Tallawico.

Speaker 1200:17:55

Absolutely. You wouldn't worry about it.

Speaker 1100:17:58

And that's ball.

Speaker 1200:18:00

And that's ball game.

Speaker 1300:18:03

I don't think both dudes told us.
