In this episode of The Level Up Podcast, host Paul Alex Espinoza argues that busy days full of messages can leave important business work untouched. He connects this to his own wish for control over his time after an unpredictable law enforcement schedule.
The episode walks through choosing one task that needs sustained attention, defining a focused work period with a clear finish point, and setting response expectations for customers and teammates. Paul also suggests examining repeated interruptions to see whether they reveal missing training, unclear ownership, or a habit of checking messages.
Listeners will learn how planning routine requests can support both focus and customer service.

Welcome to the Level Up Podcast. I'm your host, Paul Alex. I went from being a cop to an 8-figure entrepreneur that helps average people like you and me make money every single day. I created this podcast to help you get motivated and to crush your goals. Let's win together.
Remember, I have your 6. Get ready to level up right now.
What's up everyone? Welcome back to the Level Up Podcast. I'm Paul Alex, and today we're talking about a day that feels busy but leaves the important work untouched. You answer messages. You jump on a call.
You handle something that just came in. By the evening, you've helped everybody move their priorities forward. What happened to the thing your business needed you to finish? When I was in law enforcement, I could be called in at any time. Wanting more control over my life was part of why I built a business outside that job.
That goal matters to how I think about business. If you want more control over your time, you need to make decisions about how it gets used. Otherwise, whoever reaches you next keeps deciding for you. Before opening every conversation, identify the work that needs real attention. Maybe it's preparing an offer, reviewing a process, or training someone.
Give it a place in the day with a clear finish point. This isn't about ignoring customers. It's about planning how you'll respond to them while making room for work that prevents tomorrow's problems. An unanswered question needs attention. So does fixing the process that creates the same question every day.
Set expectations with the people who rely on you. When should they expect an answer? What counts as urgent? Who else can handle a routine issue? Clear communication makes focused time easier to protect.
Then, notice what keeps interrupting you. If every question genuinely requires you, you may have a responsibility or training gap to address. If you're checking messages out of habit, that's something you can work on yourself. Try protecting one focused work period this week. Decide what will be finished, how routine requests will be handled, and when you'll check back in.
See what you can accomplish when your attention has a clear job. Bottom line? Being available isn't the only way to be useful. Decide what deserves your attention before the day fills itself. Set expectations, handle real priorities, and finish something that helps the business operate better.
Your time needs direction, just like the people you lead. Thanks for tuning in to the Level Up Podcast. I'm Paul Alex. Reminding you that control over your time starts with choices you follow through on. Set the priority, protect the attention, and as always, keep leveling up.
