Good morning, girlies. It's The Toast. It's Jackson Claude, and we're your hosts. It's your favorite show, the fast five things you need to know. We'll start your day off swirly, it's The Toast.

00:00:23

I sound amazing.

00:00:24

Welcome back to The Toast, and happy Thursday. Hope everybody's having a... They're our delicious It's Thursday. And speaking of somebody, Thargie, it's Jackie.

00:00:34

Hi, Koji.

00:00:35

Why are you looking at me like that? I don't know. I don't like podcasting with you in person. You're always looking at me.

00:00:40

I'm looking at you. We could move away from each other. Well, maybe for tomorrow because our frames are set. Don't smile. Don't smile. There's two chairs on the outside. Maybe we need to go farther.

00:00:48

We need some distance. You're seriously looking into my ass. Hey, Cargie. You're good at making eye contact. I've always said, even though I haven't held a traditional job in many, many years, that the next time I have a job at Aerie, which God willing is never, if somebody says, the classic interview question, what's your biggest weakness? And it's like, you want to be honest, but you don't want to be like, I suck. Yeah, I can't do any jobs. I think I have the perfect answer, and it actually is my greatest weakness. I cannot hold eye contact with other people. It makes me deeply uncomfortable.

00:01:18

I'm glad you agree that you can't do it. I thought you were about to be like, your strength is your eye contact.

00:01:22

No, I wasn't talking about you. I was talking about me.

00:01:24

No, your strength.

00:01:25

No, no, no. My greatest weakness is my inability to hold eye contact. I find it really uncomfortable. If you watch a podcast, I'm always looking up. I'm telling a story and I'm looking at the ceiling. Okay.

00:01:36

I don't think you should say that in an interview because I do think that's a red flag.

00:01:39

Oh, you think it's a bad weakness?

00:01:40

I think it's a weird thing. I understand why you don't want to maintain eye contact, and hopefully, you don't have to go on a job interview anytime soon.

00:01:48

Just to be clear, in this hypothetical scenario, if I am going on a job interview, that's what we need to be worried about because that means things didn't work out here, and that's bad.

00:01:55

I agree, but for future yourself, which, God willing, you know what I'm willing. I'm willing, Brookha Shambli and her. I think that's a really big weird thing to say. That's would be saying, I find people tasty. I like to eat people. It's like serial killer stuff.

00:02:12

But why would somebody say that? I find people tasty. Why did you say that? Is that a quote? No. I find people tasty.

00:02:21

Someone who can't make eye contact chops people up and eats them.

00:02:26

Oh, okay. I guess. If I can't look someone in the eye, I also them tasty. But how could I allure them into eating them if I can't even look them in the eyes?

00:02:35

A problem for another day. But I just think that's not something that you should admit to someone who doesn't know you. Like me, I love you. You want to look at me? Don't look at me. Look away. Don't look at me. That's fine. I'm literally doing it. I love to look up.

00:02:47

I do. I'm always talking to the Lord. I'm always looking up.

00:02:50

I understand. I'll look here, there, look at ever. I won't look at you too hard, and I wasn't looking at you in any way.

00:02:56

No, when we first started the show, you were definitely giving me- I was definitely maintaining eye contact. You looked at me like I was tasty.

00:03:02

I was definitely maintaining eye contact with my partner.

00:03:09

That's a weird thing to do. I just wanted to say, having good eye contact is weirder than having bad eye contact. I don't know if in the comments, do you agree?

00:03:17

I agree. I don't have good eye contact either.

00:03:20

And now we're just talking about eye contact, so I just find it all uncomfortable.

00:03:24

Okay, I'll look over there.

00:03:25

Let's be newscasters today.

00:03:26

Okay. Hey, guys. How you all doing?

00:03:28

Welcome to The Toast. Happy What did everyone do last night? We had tacos at Trouts.

00:03:32

We did have tacos at Trouts.

00:03:34

They were really good.

00:03:35

They were really good. I've been trying to eat a lot of protein to stave off endless snacking. And it does help when I eat a lot of protein. So that's what I've been up to. Just thinking of ways to eat real protein, in addition to protein chips. Bars, yeah. But that's not what I'm talking about. I need to find ways to eat more meat, eggs.

00:03:55

You know what you should do? You should go on the Weight Watchers nursing program because ground chicken, ground beef is zero point. You can literally eat as much of it as you want.

00:04:02

I have to look into it. Same with eggs.

00:04:04

I think that's a zero point food.

00:04:05

She said, I have to do Weight Watchers, and I have to watch my weight. That's what she said.

00:04:08

Yeah. Who doesn't? Everyone has to watch your weight.

00:04:11

She said, I should do Weight Watchers. I just want you guys to remember that the next time I say anything mildly offensive to her.

00:04:16

Was that offensive? I said, I did the Weight Watchers nursing program. I didn't lose any weight. I certainly did not watch my weight. I just tried not to get enormous.

00:04:23

You did? Yeah. What'd you eat?

00:04:26

On the Weight Watchers nursing program? I'm a volume either. Who did the WNP? Especially when... You're a volume eater. No, especially when you're breastfeeding, it's just about how much you can take in in a given period of time. And so that's why I was eating a lot of taco meat, which is zero points. If you get a lean ground beef or lean ground turkey. Anything with ground.

00:04:42

We love ground.

00:04:43

What do people eat before the ground?

00:04:47

Well, they eat ground. Before the ground machine? You can grind without a machine.

00:04:52

I guess you can.

00:04:53

People like breast, of course, as do we.

00:04:55

I love breast.

00:04:56

Leg and thigh.

00:04:57

I don't love leg and thigh. I'm exclusively white meat.

00:05:01

And a steak.

00:05:03

Oh, and to be clear on the Weight Watchers nursing program and just the Weight Watchers program in general, I'm pretty sure white meat is zero points, but darker meats that have more things going on, not zero points. Okay. I think.

00:05:14

What about a steak?

00:05:15

I love steak.

00:05:17

I make a nice steak. I haven't made steak for you yet. Do you want to come over for steak?

00:05:21

That's a poor reflection on you, not me.

00:05:23

Do you want to come over for steaks?

00:05:24

I would love to come over for steaks.

00:05:26

Okay, let's set a date.

00:05:27

A Mister and Sister.

00:05:28

A Mister and We're doing a triple date with our husbands and our sister, and we're calling it Sisters and Mistors.

00:05:36

We're not. Olivia is, and she's really trying to get the name to catch on. So let's just give it to her.

00:05:39

It's cute.

00:05:40

I just feel like... I don't know. It's giving me six chicks.

00:05:44

You love that.

00:05:45

I do. But it's like, I don't know if we're having a theme tonight. Let's have a game night.

00:05:50

Okay, let's do Mahjong because I took my Mahjong lesson and we have to play.

00:05:53

We haven't even talked about this on the toes.

00:05:54

We have to play before I forget everything I learned.

00:05:57

Jackie took a Mahjong lesson at her neighbor's house. When I've been begging my bitch ass sister since I'm in high school, everyone is playing Mahjong now, and I just feel like it's worth mentioning that I've been playing since the eighth grade. Shout out to my best friend Alicia and her mom Esther, who taught us how to play. It was not a cool thing. We would sit around and play Mahjong and everybody thought we were weird. And now everyone's like, Mahjong How did I get here? Oh, yeah. And so when I learned how to play, I was so excited because it's a four person game. And what do I have at home? Three fucking sisters. I bought a square card table. I bought a set from Amazon. When I tell you, did we try once or we never tried? I don't remember. I feel It felt like we tried once, and it ended up in a fight. Nobody wanted to play. I was begging. The card table went unused. I believe we actually throughout the card table a couple of months ago.

00:06:38

I need to get a card table.

00:06:40

You do.

00:06:41

Well, I was toggling between just a foldable card table on Amazon.

00:06:45

Or an expensive game table.

00:06:47

Or there was a $3,000 one on the Scout I was buying.

00:06:50

I think you should get the- Partnership. Get the card table.

00:06:54

Which one? The foldable one. Yeah, but then I was... I wasn't going to get the fancy one. I can barely play. That's something I can treat myself to after a couple of wins under my belt, after I take all your money.

00:07:03

Yeah, Lameva is getting like, hella competitive with it. Good. That's the energy I've been begging you guys for.

00:07:07

We should play for money, and when I win, I can buy my card table.

00:07:11

Sure. That's a great idea. So then it's like a communal card table because we all paid for it. Yeah.

00:07:16

We need to get a game going before I forget everything I learned. Of course, I already have a pargy board, tiles and racks and stacks.

00:07:23

She has all the accouchements.

00:07:24

Racks and stacks.

00:07:26

She's all the accoutrement, but none of the skill.

00:07:27

From Shout Out Oh My Mahjong.

00:07:28

But none of the skill.

00:07:30

Picking those out was a real joy for me. And that is motivation to play because it's a party game that's incredibly pliny. It's a cleany game. So, yeah, keep saying I have none of the skills, and I'm going to whip your ass. Good.

00:07:44

No, yeah. I'm bathing you and Olivia into like- It's just hard because I have a newborn baby.

00:07:47

That's actually why we haven't played. Yeah. Okay. Sorry.

00:07:51

I'll just go kill myself.

00:07:53

Yeah, for sure. Because I'm down to clown. I've been wanting to play. Even for the lesson, I had to wear them in the carrier because I have a baby. Right.

00:08:02

Yeah.

00:08:03

A Velcro baby. Yeah. Okay.

00:08:05

Sorry. So sit down. Yeah. Sorry. How are you? I'm doing well. What did I do last night? Not much of anything. Oh, yeah. Kind of big update in my life, how you said yesterday, Max turned two. Ruby rolled. I told everybody on the page, I'm like, yeah, my baby's not rolling, and every other baby is starting to crawl. He rolled. Not a big deal. He sleeps on his stomach now. Rolls back, rolls forth. You need to roll forward? Oh, no problem. Oh, you need something behind me? I can get that, too. So It's not a big deal. If your baby's not rolling, he will. Don't worry.

00:08:32

Is it everything that you hoped it would be?

00:08:34

Yeah, it's amazing.

00:08:35

Yeah.

00:08:35

It's amazing.

00:08:36

Does he enjoy? I mean, he never had a sleep problem.

00:08:39

Yeah, I think a lot of people wait for their babies to turn just so they can sleep on their stomach because they're not sleeping well. You know my king, 12-hour king. Never an issue. He'll sleep any which way. Yeah, and now it's just like you put him to bed on one side, boom. Sometimes I check the camera, I'm like, Are you even in there? He's in the corner. I literally didn't see him. It's just a little bit of a panic attack, but motherhood is beautiful.

00:08:57

That's very exciting. We're all very proud of him.

00:08:59

Yeah, it's It's been a big week for my family.

00:09:01

And he's just on his own time. He's like his mother in that sense. Yeah. More like his father.

00:09:08

I was going to say more like his aunt.

00:09:09

His mother? Who's his aunt?

00:09:11

Margot. Just a little stubborn.

00:09:12

Oh, I was going to say takes his time like his father.

00:09:16

Right. Slow. That's very generous phrasing.

00:09:18

Not lickety split like his mama showing up early.

00:09:21

I was actually talking about this before we started. I don't know if people know this about me. I'm a chronically early person. To the point of borderline embarrassing, like, Don't you have a family? I am everywhere 20 minutes early.

00:09:33

Always- 20 minutes is a long time.

00:09:34

I allot 30 minutes to get anywhere. And in New York, it usually takes 15 to 20. Now I'm a commuter while I'm here, and it's not that serious. But I am always, always so early to the point where other people, when they're on time, I'm like, You're actually late. We've been here all day.

00:09:53

I was actually early today, whereas I'm usually on time/late.

00:09:58

Because you have a Velcro, baby.

00:09:59

Because I have a... Thank Thank you for understanding. I was still after you. I saw your car, and I was like, Oh, I have to get here early. I was just early today. Oh, you saw my car. I saw your car. I'm like, Bitch is still before me. I was early.

00:10:11

I am always early. I think it's now that we're talking about greatest strengths. Oh, that's a good one to share with an employer. And it's true, too. I want to be honest to my future employer. So, yes, let's do mock interview. Ready? Okay, 3, 2, 1, action.

00:10:27

Claudia, we're really excited to interview you today I'm sorry for this position. I'm sorry that your show.

00:10:32

Previous career, it didn't work out. Can you explain this 11-year work gap?

00:10:35

Can you explain this gap in your career?

00:10:38

Yeah. I can.

00:10:43

And please do.

00:10:44

Oh, sure. You know, business is a funny thing, Ms. Ashray. I'm sorry, Ms. Ashray. I know you have a Velcro in your head. And when I say, You're looking mighty tasty today. When When referring to my 11-year age gap, I feel as though... You should mind your own business. Oh, age gap. When referring to the 11-year gap in my resume, I started a business. And what makes me such a great candidate for this I take risks. I take risks, and I know failure. I wouldn't trust anybody who doesn't know failure. And as the great Taylor Swift once said, no one sees when you lose when you're playing solitaire. And that was me. But I guess I lost, and now everyone knows because I'm here interviewing for this job.

00:11:27

So you would say you were failing forward?

00:11:29

Yeah, and there's no shame in failing. Whilst pursuing your dreams. Correct.

00:11:32

And that's a good thing. You should have it. I was pursuing my dreams when I'm young. That's the time to do it. Correct. What would you say are your greatest strengths in the workplace?

00:11:41

Among my many strengths, of which there are many, I would say my greatest strength is my ability to manage time. I would say I'm a chronically online person. As my great, great, great grandmother once said- You're chronically online? Did I say that?

00:11:56

Brilliant slip.

00:11:58

Chronically on I'm also chronically online, and that's why you should hire me as your social media manager. But I am a chronically on time person, as my great, great grand once said. If you're early, you're on time. If you're on time, you're late. And if you're late, well, that's just unacceptable, dear.

00:12:15

And what's your biggest weakness?

00:12:18

As I'm sure you could surmise during this interview, I do really struggle to maintain direct, steady eye contact. It's something I'm very aware of and something that I actively work on in both my personal and professional life. But it is something that at times I do find challenging.

00:12:31

That was a good answer. Why do you think that is? To dig deeper.

00:12:34

It probably goes back to my childhood and never feeling fully accepted by my bitch older sister, if I'm being honest.

00:12:43

Yeah, Olivia, she's so weird.

00:12:45

Yeah.

00:12:46

Well, thank you for your time today, Claudia. One of my weaknesses is I don't like touching other people.

00:12:52

Come on. Why the left hand?

00:12:55

It's just a reach for me.

00:12:58

Clammy.

00:13:00

Now, that's why you know why I don't want to shake hands with you.

00:13:03

Oh, and to be clear, I don't even want this job. Okay, you're a bitch, and your office sucks, and you have no snacks in the pantry. I checked.

00:13:09

Well, thank you for your time today.

00:13:11

Thank you for your time today. Thank you more for your time.

00:13:14

Thank you the most.

00:13:15

Thank you more than anybody. Why don't you break the microphone? You're like, Ben.

00:13:19

He probably sat here yesterday.

00:13:20

Oh, yeah. Ben did record in the studio yesterday. Should I spoil who their guest is just because I'm annoying and they got the most famous person in the world on their podcast?

00:13:27

No, but give clues. Okay. Do Do better blank.

00:13:33

That's it. Perfect clue.

00:13:34

Perfect clue. If you- Real ones will know.

00:13:36

Yeah, it's only for real ones.

00:13:37

It's only for real ones. Do better blank.

00:13:42

It's Haleigh Davidson. That's my clue.

00:13:46

Good clue.

00:13:46

Thank you.

00:13:48

How are the stories today? It's Dan Stevens. That's my clue.

00:13:50

Oh, she just tell them who it is. No, no, I'm there. Dan Stevens is a great... I love it. It's Lady Mary.

00:13:57

The clue is Lady Mary. If you can't guess it, well, you'll just have to wait. Yeah. How are the stories for today? They are good. For a Thursday, we're going to continue to update the Celeb Mom Talk drama.

00:14:08

Today is the day Traitors premieres this evening. I've been seeing TikTok ads for it, so it's not missing me.

00:14:15

Okay, great. I'm so excited. Oh, also, if all goes to plan, Redheads will be coming out today. We recorded yesterday.

00:14:21

I was downstairs. I heard the cackles from below.

00:14:24

It was really fun. The girls caught up. Lots of non-book talk just catching up because it's been months, and we're hysterical. So whenever that drops, you should listen to it.

00:14:35

I think I will.

00:14:36

00:19:16

Our first story, not really an update in the celebrity Toxic Mom Group drama, but an adjacent update, which is that Hilary Duff is sharing a snippet of her Riske new song, Amid the Mom Group drama. I do think using all the visibility- As she should. To her advantage to showcase her new song, as she should. Everyone's talking about her. I'm talking about the song.

00:19:38

Yeah. Were you on the toast when her... No. She had her first song come out called Mature. I think it was Ben, and it was perfect because Ben's obsessed with Hilary Duff. We were really hyping it up because before it came out, Hilary Duff's back in music. She's done amazing music, and now she's married to this big time magazine editor, Matthew Comey, who's one of the biggest music producers in the world. There's no way this could be a bag song. There's no way could flop. We were so wrong because the song Mature that she put out was genuinely a bad song. Ai actually could have made a better song. For the second song, I had little to no hopes, and those hopes were met right where I was because the song is also really bad. But it also now has crazy lyrics. Mature did, too, had sexually explicit lyrics. This is a little bit more overt, and it's also referencing an iconic moment in pop culture herstry. So please go on.

00:20:24

She put out a snippet of the song where she's lip syncing to her own song, and In a field. These are the lyrics, and unfortunately, I'm going to have to read them now.

00:20:33

Yeah, and it's giving me Jackie had to read the lyrics to WAP.

00:20:37

Bruno Mars.

00:20:38

Bruno Mars, yeah.

00:20:39

With Sexy Red or whatever. Your favorite artist. Bruno announced he's dropping new music. Oh, really? Yeah. I think at the end of this week, he has a new album called Romantic. I think it's called. And Lou Holmes. And Lou Holmes. That's his story. We'll talk about music at the end. But Hilary Duff's new song, Here are the lyrics. I only want the beginning. I don't want the end. I want the part where you say, God damn. Back of a dive bar giving you head. Then sneak home late, wake up your roommates. I want the highlights 10 out of 10, the butterflies from holding your hand before we swept us under the bed, and we practically became roommates. I'm touching myself by the front door, but you don't even look my way no more.

00:21:18

If you thought I had trouble making eye contact before, I literally can't look at you after that.

00:21:22

Okay, let's get into it. It has to be done in order for you guys to understand.

00:21:26

Here's the thing. If you're going to be very Very sexual in your music, a couple of things have to happen. So I'd like to bring up two examples of women being sexy and where I think that they've done it right and what the difference is. First, you can't be so overt, right? Sometimes you're going to be a little bit more subtle. It took me a while to realize that Hailey Steinfeld's amazing song, Love Myself, is actually a song about masturbation. It actually took me probably 100 listens before I realized. And you know what? That's good songwriting. It's innuendo, I believe the kids call it. And the song itself was so amazing that whatever she was saying, it wouldn't have Now, a more recent reference, Wood by Taylor Swift, which is a crazy song. His Love Was the Key That Opened My Thighs, right?

00:22:06

That's why you listen to the clean version. Yes. Normally- The clean version is actually better, and it goes to this sentiment.

00:22:13

Yes. But even so, even the non-clean version. The song is so good. I actually, I don't care. I'm able to look past the cringy lyrics. The first couple of times it was hard. The thing with Hilary Duff is she doesn't have that subtle thing here. It couldn't be more overt, and it sounds like one of the worst songs I've ever heard. It sounds like a fake song. Having said all of that, it's going to be no for me.

00:22:36

Additionally, I don't think this is a song put out by someone in their marriage because she's talking about the relationship going south. I'm sure she's talking about a classic theme that anyone can relate to. It's hypothetical. But I do also consider the artist. I don't want to... Unless you guys are getting divorced or you're telling me about your marital issues, I think that's weird to sing Yeah.

00:23:00

I think the weird thing here is that a seasoned pop star with hits under her belt in conjunction with a very seasoned music producer are unable to make anything happen. They're now two failed songs. And a lot of songs fail for a million reasons. Even good songs fail, right? It's the industry, TikTok, whatever. But this is just bad music. It's bad songwriting, it's bad beats, it's bad everything. And I'm shocked. That's the shocking part beyond the lyrics, of course.

00:23:28

These aren't the lyrics of a happily married woman. And I believe she's happily married. Her husband was just out here defending her. So it's like, you're singing about nonsense. Why not sing?

00:23:36

Why not be authentic? The year of authenticity? Why not speak your truth, Hilla? Or sing your truth?

00:23:41

Yeah. So that's for me, in addition to the fact that it's not subtle, it's very overt and crudy.

00:23:48

And also... I'm going to say one more thing. When it comes to women talking about sexiness, it applies to men, too. There are just certain people who do it better. When I think of Hilary Duff, I think of so many things. I don't think of one of the first adjectives as sexy. That's not who she's played. She's like, Girl Next Door vibes.

00:24:08

Even the video that she put out is not... Because you could say she's breaking free from Lizzie. She doesn't want to be raise your voice anymore, even though who would ever run from that? But even the video itself is not... The vibe of the video is not congolous with the vibe of the song.

00:24:22

I think that's also why Taylor Swift's wood was so hard for people to digest, because she is not historically sexy. She's a lot of things, good things. You can't be all things, right?

00:24:34

Someone who does it really well, I think, is the sexy woman of the sexy lyrics of a year. Let me think. Sexy woman. I'm actually shocked she hasn't come up yet because we always talk about her in this context.

00:24:43

Who?

00:24:44

Breener. Rina. Rina. Rina Carpenter is always singing about sex. Sometimes you know that, and sometimes you don't. These days, you know it too much, and that's where the issue lies in the most recent album. In general, I was just listening to Taste the Car, and it's actually when you read very much into the lyrics. It's a crazy song.

00:25:02

But she does it well. She does it well. And it's a combination of esthetic, the photos, even everyone was talking about the hair being held, the cover of her most recent album. That's her thing. Yes, that's a great example. Thank you for bringing that up. And so Hillary's just not that girl. And to pivot to it so overtly and so quickly, and it's not reading as authentic, maybe that wasn't one of her New Year's resolutions.

00:25:25

Yeah. And I just feel like she so successfully transitioned from child actress to- Musician to mom to actor. To actor, successful actress. What does putting out music now do for her?

00:25:39

I do find it interesting when people totally change lanes. For no reason. I feel like Ariana is doing that right now. She's obviously in Wicked, and now she's going to be in Meet the Fockers. Okay. So Meet the Fockers, they had Meet the Fockers 2, 3, whatever, and now it's the new one. Whereas I think Ben Stiller is the dad, and his son is getting married to Ariana Grande, something like that.

00:26:01

Okay, so she wants to be an actress.

00:26:02

Right. It's like this is somebody who completely dominated the pop sphere. She had done a complete turn from Nickelodeon star to successful pop star, the biggest pop star in the world, and now turning again. I always find it interesting. The opposite, like Selena. Selena doesn't sing ever. Now she's like an actress, Emilia Perez.

00:26:19

And then she put out a song. Right. Yeah. I guess people can do whatever they want. It's just it feels like they work so hard to break out of one box just to then go back to it. But I guess these people are crazy. We're talking about crazy people. Correct. We're talking about crazy people.

00:26:35

Doing crazy things. So us searching for clarity.

00:26:38

We're like, We want to do this thing forever. Right.

00:26:40

Literally.

00:26:40

We just- Different strokes for different folks. Correct. However, I don't think Hilary Duff is a crazy person. No.

00:26:48

Okay, so that's true. She's grown up, and I think why people love and respect her so much is she's grown up to be this really sound of mind individual for somebody who was so famous at such a young age. She has a great marriage, a stable home, it appears. Good working work-life balance. She's in hits, like younger. She still has things coming. And yeah, why someone would do so crazy when it appears that she's this really stable person? That's a good point.

00:27:12

Yeah. But anyway, stream. I don't know what the song is called. I don't even think it's out yet.

00:27:17

Oh, and I'm sorry. Just when we're talking about her giving head, which we are talking about now because she said it, we have to talk about the time she was paparazzi.

00:27:26

Do you remember what I'm talking about? Giving head to her ex-husband right after they got engaged. Right.

00:27:29

There's paparazzi pictures of him popping a question on the terrace, her smiling, giving him a hug, and then giving him head.

00:27:36

Are you ready for our next story? Some adjacent news, but I can't figure out why it feels adjacent other than they all live in Los Angeles, but Hilary Duff does lead me to Spencer Pratt. Maybe because of the song, Come Clean.

00:27:50

Oh, that's why. Yeah. Okay.

00:27:52

Spencer Pratt is launching his campaign for LA mayor. One year after losing his home in the Wildfires, he says, We're going to expose the system.

00:27:59

If You've been following Spencer on social media for the last year since his home burned down. None of this is shocking because at first it was talking about him personally, his family, the house, Heidi's music. And then it became larger than the Pratz. I just want to say I love this. Actually, Spencer was the one who put me on to... Remember when I was talking about that fire aid? Yeah. That big festival that a lot of-Celebrities. Celebrities put on right after the fires to raise money. They $50 million for the fire victims, Billy Eilish, Dave Matthews, all these big people performed. It turns out none of that money went to any victim. Spencer was the one who put me on to this investigation that a local news station was doing about where the money went. It went to fake charities. It was really crazy. He's just been uncovering a lot of fraud.

00:28:47

Yeah, there's a lot of fraud in California, too, uncovered. He's also spent the last year railing against his mayor and his governor and all the people that failed LA during the fires. And so, yeah, the next logical step is like, Well, what about Right.

00:29:00

And so I think a lot of people are like, well, he has no experience. And it's just like, what's more experience than losing your home in a wildfire? Who's going to fight for the victims of LA more than a victim? You know?

00:29:12

Yeah, but there are other things running Are there?

00:29:16

Right now, that's all there is.

00:29:18

We got to go.

00:29:20

And he's running for the mayor of just LA, right? Not like the governor of California. So it's really specific to his hometown. Yeah. Oh, and he's born and bred in LA, right? Yeah.

00:29:30

Princes of Malibu. Right.

00:29:32

Yeah.

00:29:32

No, he doesn't have experience, but it doesn't mean he can't learn. Sometimes experience is a good thing, but I think also that's how you get experience, right?

00:29:39

You have to get a job to have a job. That's the theme of today.

00:29:43

So it can really go both ways. Sometimes you have no experience and you're not interested in getting experience and learning. But I think in earnest, he wants to help his city and he wants to make it a great place to live. And I think he has all the right motivation. So I endorse his bid. If If anybody's asking me, though they're not, I don't live there. Who else is running for mayor? Because is Rick Caruso going to run again?

00:30:06

There's always lots of celeb. Why do people know about the mayor of LA? We don't live in LA because celebrities are always taking stances and endorsing. All the celebrities endorse Rick Caruso, and he lost. But I've been seeing, he comes up on my TikTok a lot, doing a lot of podcasts.

00:30:21

Yeah, I see a lot of folk cars.

00:30:22

Because he's part of the rebuilding of the Palisades. That's how... He's a businessman. He owns a bunch of real estate in the Palisades. So he's been talking about I don't know if he's running. I have to assume if he ran, he would win.

00:30:36

Rick?

00:30:37

Yeah. Why? Well, because he lost, and the person he lost to was responsible for a lot of the damage in the wildfires. And the part of the LA that he was responsible for, Rick Caruso, in the Palestine, didn't burn down.

00:30:51

You would think,. You never know.

00:30:55

You never know. I also think that Spencer and Heidi have a Hulu show, right? So hopefully this is being documented for the docuseries.

00:31:02

Yeah. He told a crowd on Wednesday when he launched his bid. He said, The system in Los Angeles isn't struggling. It's fundamentally broken. It is a machine designed to protect the people at the top and the friends they exchange favors with while the rest of us drown in toxic smoke and ash. Business as usual is a death sentence for Los Angeles, and I'm done waiting for someone to take real action. That's why I am running for mayor.

00:31:23

Okay. I don't know anything about what it takes to be a mayor, but I just want to say I'm compelled.

00:31:28

I think it takes Gusto and love for your and a commitment to learn. I love that. You know? Yeah. So let's see what happens. I guess the mayor election for there is November. Okay. Early in the year.

00:31:40

So we've got some time. We'll keep you abreast. Imagine.

00:31:44

I would love this term for him. I know.

00:31:46

I feel like it's not that crazy. Like, California made the Terminator, the governor. That's actually crazy in hindsight. Was he the governor before the Terminator or the Terminator before the governor?

00:31:55

Terminator before governor.

00:31:57

Okay, so it's really crazy. He became governor.

00:31:59

Yeah.

00:31:59

It's not that crazy. I feel like he could do it. Yeah.

00:32:02

Are you ready for our next story? Some romantic news. Sean Mendes confirms his romance with Brazilian actress, Bruna Marquizine. And I did choose this story because- Bruna.

00:32:15

Her name's Bruna. Let's talk about that.

00:32:17

During a PDA filled LA outing, Sean has a new lady named Bruna.

00:32:20

Okay. Am I wrong in misremembering that Sean Mendes came out? Remember, he was on On stage. He just was talking about how, sexuality is a spectrum, the things you say before you come out. And he didn't say he was necessarily gay. I think he was more so leading that he's fluid, bi, whatever.

00:32:41

I don't know. So that still leaves space for women.

00:32:45

For this, yeah. For Bruna. I just feel like we never followed up on that.

00:32:49

I did it. I certainly didn't. I forgot it if I ever knew that it happened. I don't watch clips from Sean Mendez's concerts.

00:32:56

I don't think you're alone in that.

00:32:57

I think the- Sometimes you're up there and you're just saying stuff.

00:33:01

Well, it's scary to be in front of a crowd.

00:33:03

Sometimes you just- And you're just like,. I'm gay.

00:33:06

Yeah, that's true. Although he does have experience. It was a small crowd, actually. I feel like the trajectory of Sean Mendes' career could actually be studied. And am I always talking about it? I don't know. What the fuck happened to Sean Mendes? First of all, it's crazy that he became as famous as he did when he was from Vine. Not a lot of people remember that. That's all Jacky gets to think about.

00:33:29

No, it's just like every few seconds, I just need to say, Bruna.

00:33:32

Buddha. It's crazy that he was from Vine, and then he got so famous. He was literally... He was Harry styles. And then I was also thinking about Harry styles yesterday. What happened to him? I fucking can't believe you. That's actually true, by the way, Bruna.

00:33:50

Bruna. Bruna, Bruna, Bruna, Bruna.

00:33:55

Let me be your Bruna. Bruna, Bruna, Bruna. Let me be your Bruna. One and only.

00:34:02

One and only, Bruna. I'm happy for Sean. He deserves love. Yeah. With Bruna.

00:34:08

Don't we all deserve love? With Bruna.

00:34:11

I hope they never break up. I hope they're in the press every single day.

00:34:14

Just so you can say on your show, Bruna.

00:34:18

That's a beautiful name.

00:34:19

So yeah, I'm getting that you don't want to talk about Sean Mendes' career.

00:34:23

I don't want to talk about Chao Mendez's career. Not even because I'm distracted by Bruna. However. Because you hate me. I don't know what I was going to say because I love you. If you have more to say on the matter, if you want to study it further, I will study it with you.

00:34:36

No, it's fine. I feel like there's a lot of pressure from what I would say. Don't you just feel like he fell off? Where the fuck did he go? He was the biggest star in the world. That song, It is it in my blood. So good.

00:34:47

I agree he fell off. From my perspective of someone who knows nothing about Sean Manders, it felt like a Sean's choice. Choice. Agreed. Not like he's clawing at something that won't have him.

00:34:58

Where do you think, Like, Harry styles is?

00:35:01

Working on what's next.

00:35:02

Because I remember when Harry was everywhere all at once, with that tour that never ended. We were like, Harry, sit down. Harry, take a nap. And he did. She spent a long nap. Yeah.

00:35:11

I think he's probably working on new music, and then he'll do it all again. But you need the balance. I feel like he doesn't want that rock star life all the time. So when the money runs out, he'll come crawling back.

00:35:22

And him and Zoe Kravitz is still going strong.

00:35:24

Yeah. Cute. Yeah. Channing has a lady. They just celebrated their one year anniversary.

00:35:30

A youth.

00:35:31

Oh, she's a youth?

00:35:32

I believe she's quite youthful.

00:35:33

Okay. I like him. I know. As long as the lobe is there.

00:35:37

That's the thing about me. I feel like I came to this realization a little while ago on the podcast because I would say things and people were, Well, you said it different about I'm hot. Yeah, I did. I would use to try to like- And I'd do it again. Yeah. I used to try to bend over backwards to be like, Well, I said... You know what? Normalize having different roles for different people.

00:35:54

Even though Chatting Tatum is the same age as Tom braided, right?

00:35:57

That's exactly what I was thinking.

00:35:59

Chatting Tatum and Alex Earle, we would love.

00:36:02

Obviously. I don't know. Just some people are different, and I feel like we should celebrate the uniquety of all different people.

00:36:09

It's true.

00:36:10

We're not all the same. It's what we said. If Kelly Clarks got a DUI, that would be okay.

00:36:14

She obviously needed it. She needed it.

00:36:16

Look what she's been through, her toxic divorce and her ex-husband passing away. Sometimes you need to have a martini and go for a drive. But Justin Timberlake, not fucking cool. Jail. Think about public safety. Jail. Actually jail. Yeah.

00:36:29

Prison.

00:36:30

Yeah. Cuff them up. Lock her up.

00:36:32

Throw away the key, Bruna.

00:36:34

Brunana.

00:36:35

What's her name? Brunana. What's her name?

00:36:39

Brunana. What's her name? What's her name? What's her name? What's her name?

00:36:43

Say... Yeah. Thank you, Sean Mendes.

00:36:45

For bringing... And what does Bruna do?

00:36:46

Who is Bruna? She's a Brazilian actress. I need to watch someone for a movie.

00:36:49

Okay, honestly, with all this talk of Bruna, I feel like it's a great segue into today's sponsor, Graza. Graza. This episode of The Toast is brought to you by Graza. Everybody knows the Pargie cooking oil that's taking the cooking world, specifically the internet cooking world by storm, because I saw everyone cooking with Graza, and then Ben brought it home and I was like, Oh, okay. Clearly, all the internet chefs.

00:37:09

I just want to say I cook with Graza all their different formulas, and I found it on my own.

00:37:15

So it is the olive oil of choice for many people, including ourselves. It is delicious. It's easy to use. It's extra virgin olive oil at an affordable everyday price. Graza is always fresh. They pick, press, and bottle all their olives in the same season. You can even see the harvest date on every bottle. They have not one, but two EVOO, as Rachel used to say, to stock your kitchens with.

00:37:36

One for Drizzle, one for Sizzle.

00:37:37

Yeah, one for a squeeze bottle, also one for a glass bottle, if you're in your glass hour, which I know you are. The Sizzle, which is everyday cooking oil, perfect for roasting, sauteing, and anything you're cooking. They also have the Drizel, which is a punchy, more flavorful finishing oil that's great for dipping bread, whipping up salad dressing, even drizzling over ice cream. That's when I first saw Graza. I saw somebody on TikTok drizzling EVOO over ice cream. I was like, That's crazy. Why are you looking at me like that?

00:37:58

No, I thought- That's all I I wanted to say.

00:38:00

So head to graza. Co, G-R-A-Z-A. C-o. Use our code Toast to get 10% off and get to cook in your next chef's quality meal. So it's Graza, G-R-A-Z-A. Also great thing to bring to somebody's house if you're just going over for a gift that's not what everybody brings, flowers.

00:38:15

That's really beautiful, Claudia.

00:38:16

Grassa. Co code toast. Today's episode is also brought to you by Taylor Farms. Taylor Farms is back. I feel like everybody knows about Taylor Farms from us, honestly. And it's salad in a bag. And I know what you guys are thinking, yucky salad in a bag. That's brown. That's musty. No. So Taylor Farms, everything you think you know about salad in a bag, throw it out of your mind. Taylor Farms is fresh. It's pre-washed, it's pre-choped. And they have a genius over there coming up with all their different recipes. Of course, they've got the bases You know, regular Caesar, the standard basics when it comes to salad. But they are also churning out just unique flavors, unique salads. What's your favorite Taylor Farms? I know you have one every day.

00:38:58

So I love the Caesar because it's a Tabularassa. I love Mediterranean Crunch because I love a little Mediterranean flavoring. And then I also love the sweet kale. I actually have one in my fridge right now. I'm going to have it for lunch. I'm going to put a little goat cheese on top.

00:39:11

Well, if you don't like to cook or chop or make dishes, really, Taylor Farms, you don't actually technically need to put it in a bowl. You can eat it right out of the bag. But okay, I guess we could do one dish. We could put the bowl. There's no chopping, slicing, or leaving half a cabbage in your fridge. It's yummy. Toppings, dressing, mix it up. It's super customizable. So everything comes pre-washed, pre-cut. It's just for someone like me, it's really a game changer.

00:39:33

And lettuce is cut into small, shredded bits. So you don't have a huge leaf.

00:39:37

Okay, because if I'm going to eat a salad, which I am doing a lot of these days, it has to be shredded to oblivion. I want it to be mulch. If we can eat salads, you can, too. Okay, grab a Taylor Farms' Chop Salad Kit today. Get your salad together.

00:39:49

Thank you. You're welcome. Our next story, Splitzville for Ali Wong and Bill Hater. After two years of dating, over two years, they have These are two that I thought we're going to be together forever. It just seemed to make a lot of sense. They passed the two-year threshold and sailed off into the sunset and then came back and broke up. Yeah.

00:40:09

I didn't know they were together because there was a year-long period, no, a couple of years, where Bill Hater was seen out with a bunch of different famous women who were, in my opinion, a little bit out of his league. There was Anna Kendrick, there was Rachel Bilson, and Ali Wong. I just wasn't sure who the most recent one was. I thought it was Rachel Bilson. I can't really mourn a loss I didn't know was still thriving, and apparently it wasn't.

00:40:29

But I do feel like there are people out there that are going to be taking this really hard. Oh, yeah. Like, quirky people. Quirky. Comedy. Follower of comedy who are really wrapped up in this and have to unwrap themselves.

00:40:42

I just feel like Bill Hater What preceded... You'll be able to answer this question. What preceded Bill Hater dating a couple of women out of his league?

00:40:51

Rainier.

00:40:52

Yeah, I think he should send Amy Schumer a thank you card for making everyone in the world think Bill Hater was cute. Because before that, he was the funny guy, period. I don't think anybody thought about him in a romantic or sexual way. When Amy cast him for her first big movie, I was definitely like, Okay, curious choice, and I was wrong. In that movie, he's so cute.

00:41:11

And very desirable. Yeah.

00:41:13

He's like, This doctor, and he's working on a Maurice Stoudemire's knee, and it's just... It's attractive. Then he went and dated Rachel Summer. Summer Roberts from the OC. That never would have happened without Amy Schumer. I hope he thanks her. The way that Taylor Swift sends Kelly Clarkson flowers every year on the anniversary the date that Kelly Clarkson tweeted, Hey, Taylor, I'm sorry that you don't have your masters. Why don't you re-record them? It was just this earnest thing, and now she sends Kelly flowers every year. I feel like on the day the Trainwreck came out, Bill Hater should send Amy Schumer flowers.

00:41:41

Agreed. Maybe he does. Maybe people in movies just do that for other people in movies.

00:41:45

No, actually, what I've learned as a sick person obsessed with celebrities is the way that movies mean the world to us means nothing to them. It was just a week of work for them. Do you know what I mean? Because I remember, I forget what I was One of my favorite Gwyneth Paltrow movies is Up in the Air. Have you ever seen it?

00:42:06

Yeah, the Flight Attendee.

00:42:06

Flight Attendee movie. It was this random one movie with Kelly Preston. It's star-studded. I think she was on Watched Happens Live or somewhere where they brought it up. You could She's like, Oh, she's going to tell. She maybe had even forgotten that she did the movie. When you've done so many movies and it's just work for you, it's not culture, they literally don't care.

00:42:22

Yes, but on the other hand, when they're on the press tour for the movie.

00:42:25

They make you think.

00:42:26

Yeah, and they're like, This character just- Will stay with me forever.

00:42:30

Spoke to me. And in a year, they're going to be like, What was that character's name?

00:42:33

Yeah. So I guess they are professional liars.

00:42:35

That's what acting is. Like being deranged. Yeah.

00:42:39

A crazy person. Thinking you're someone else. Right.

00:42:42

And like, lying to everyone for a year because more often than not, years down the road, that movie that meant the world to you, your favorite actress probably doesn't even know that they were in it. And I say this is like, I love Gwyneth, and she literally had no idea. Maybe it wasn't up in the air because I actually feel like either she was talking... Whatever. Maybe I'm lying.

00:42:57

So just like, it happens all I agree with you.

00:43:01

They were like, Wait, was I in that? That happens all the time on Watched Happens Live. That's funny.

00:43:04

Because they go into the vault.

00:43:05

Yeah. And they're like, Wait, what? You have to study your own career in order to have a good performance on Watched Happens Live.

00:43:11

Yeah. Are you ready for our fifth and final story? Yeah. An after mentioned story, which is that Luke Holmes announces his new album, The Way I Am Coming Out. He set his release for his sixth studio album, including a new track, Sleep is in a Hotel Room, which dropped yesterday. With an announcement, he said, It's been a long process getting this thing going, but I'm really proud of this record. I've loved the song Sleepless in a Hotel Room for a long time, and it's been awesome to see how excited the fans are for that one as well. This is his first full-length album since 2024's Fathers & Sons, which was really for- It was like an ERP. It was a moment in time for people who could relate, which was literally mean, but not like banger season.

00:43:52

We haven't had a banger album since the album before Fathers & Sons, which was what and which was release when?

00:43:58

Growing up and Getting Older. So it was Getting Older. Those were the two albums, and that was released probably 2023.

00:44:05

That's been a minute. You know what? I just want to say I'm ready. I'm spending a lot of time in my car. I'm ready.

00:44:09

Oh, yeah. I wanted to ask you, what do you think about Commuter Life? I know that you like Commuter at home, but you're in an Uber. You don't play your music. What do you think about driving with your music and coming into the office?

00:44:19

At home, I really like going to work. The city's on fire, especially when you're doing commuter hours. Here, it's definitely annoying to have to load up In my car. I can't lie. You're asking me a question that I don't have a fully formed... I don't know. I haven't thought about it.

00:44:37

You're not enjoying the experience listening to your music? No. Windows down.

00:44:40

Maybe once I have a new Luke album, I will.

00:44:42

Windows down?

00:44:43

I haven't thought much about it, honestly.

00:44:45

Okay. I guess we're not having the- To me, commuting is simply just a means to an end. It's just getting from A to B.

00:44:51

A to B. Yeah.

00:44:51

You're not enjoying the journey. It's about the destination.

00:44:55

Actually, when I get in my car, it is about the destination. Yeah. Okay.

00:45:00

Yeah. I'll just fuck off. No, no. With my commuter energy.

00:45:04

Don't. Your commuter energy looks mighty tasty. I don't know if I'll ever get over the fact that you said that. I feel like as a community, we're not talking about it enough.

00:45:13

I think the community will talk about it.

00:45:15

What should we name today's episode? Looking Mighty Tasty.

00:45:18

Looking Mighty Tasty, which we do.

00:45:20

Hello. Look at me.

00:45:24

Strengths and weaknesses. Bruna.

00:45:29

Bruna.

00:45:30

Bruna.

00:45:33

How is Bruna? Bruna was wearing a cone over the Christmas break.

00:45:36

Yeah, he was wearing a cone for a few weeks. I would post the cone, but not explain what happened.

00:45:40

Yeah, you were rage-beating everyone.

00:45:42

I guess so. I just didn't want to take the time to... Also, Zack took him to the vet, so I didn't have a full understanding. All I knew is that they wanted to charge me thousands for Bruna.

00:45:49

Yeah, Jackie's onto Big Pet.

00:45:51

You guys, Big Pet is out of control. If I wasn't onto them- It's just unfortunate that you are onto Big Pet with a pet who happens to have just a lot of random health issues. I know, but that's why I'm onto Big Pet. That's why it has to be me. You've seen the underbelly. But if it were up to Big Pet, I would have spent four grand on Bruno over the Christmas break. I was able to get the bill down to a couple hundred. Good, good, good. 200 max dollars. He wasn't able to keep one eye open for a few days. At first, I I would think he was being dramatic, and that would clear up on his own. But what actually happened was one night, he threw up in the middle of the night, and there was red in his throw up. So I was like, Oh, my baby can't keep an eye open. He's throwing up blood. Great. Time to go to the vet. Obviously, this is the end. You're right.

00:46:34

For RIP Buddha.

00:46:35

So we went to the vet, and they said, The eye thing is like an ulcer thing. They'll give him drops, and it'll heal up. He threw up last night. That was unrelated. I was like, Oh, the two things are unrelated, get out of there. I just thought it was a combo of disastrousness. And then upon reflection in the photos of the vomit, we concluded that it wasn't throw up. It wasn't blood. He probably just ate some strawberries.

00:46:58

Red die, number five. Yeah. Right.

00:47:00

So he wasn't throwing up, but it was just like, Bruno likes to throw up in the night. That's his favorite time to throw up. And he loves to do it on the rug when the hardwood is right there.

00:47:07

Okay, so that's like a universal dog thing. They have the courtesy to hop out of your bed to throw up. I think it's more comfortable for them. But just taking that one extra step onto the hardwood is too much.

00:47:17

He literally threw up in both corners of the rug, which was really special meant a lot to me and to Zack, who did clean it up. So he threw up normal because he likes to eat acorns in the backyard and then throw up in the the middle of the night. That's Bruno's thing. And his eye was just a little ulcer, which he needed drops for, and then he needed to wear a cone so that he wouldn'taw at the drops, because if he did, he could go blind.

00:47:39

Which I do feel like is Bruno's next era, the blind Bruno era. Think of the content.

00:47:45

I think Bruno needs a patch, first of all. And then I know people would say, Why didn't you get him the cozy cone? So I ordered Bruno a cozier cone because anything for my baby boy, and he could stillaw in himself. Then Margot came to my house and she was beside herself.

00:48:03

Like animal control.

00:48:04

She was beside herself that we would keep him in this cone. It's so big, like the injustice of it all. She took it upon herself to order him a cone. Again, it was not the right cone. Everyone can understand Bruno had to be in this huge cone, and that was Bruno's reality. Now, they did want me to get blood work for Bruno. Yeah. Just in case he was throwing up blood. Big pet. And I said, You know what? Let me see if he throws up again, and then we can order the blood.

00:48:30

He wasted the money. Yeah.

00:48:31

And he did not throw up again because I know my boy. They don't know Bruno. They see all these symptoms. They're like, Raising the alarm. I'm like, This is Bruno doing Bruno things. He has a new baby at home. Of course, he's going to try and go for some attention. Right.

00:48:44

Velcro I'm a Velcro baby.

00:48:45

Bruno is a Velcro baby. All my babies are Velcro babies. It's true. I love them.

00:48:51

Well, that's our show.

00:48:53

That's our show. So thank you for all your well wishes towards Bruno. It meant the world to him.

00:48:57

Tomorrow is our final episode of the week. I mean, that flew.

00:48:59

You You think so?

00:49:01

Yeah, because I was having so much fun.

00:49:03

Oh, I was definitely having fun, but I guess it was just my first week back. Well, it's not a week, but there was just a lot going on. So I felt like every day felt like a full day.
