We have some significant news right now. World leaders are absolutely blasting Donald Trump in the United States on the world stage at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. This is the premier economic conference for world leaders, business leaders, and more held every year in Switzerland. And this year, well, there is a major elephant in the room, and that's the fact that Donald Trump is trying to break apart US EU alliances, US NATO alliances, and while world leaders right now are not having it, they have come together, something that doesn't happen often. But world leaders have come together against the United States of America in a stunning turn of events. Make sure to like, comment, share, and subscribe. Let's listen to Prime Minister Mark Kearney from Canada first talking about how his relationship with the President of the United States, with the United States as a whole, was fractured and how he does not support the direction the US is currently heading.

No longer protect you, you must protect yourself. But let's be clear-eyed about where this leads. A world of fortresses will be poorer, more fragile, and less sustainable. There's another truth. If great powers abandon even the pretense of rules and values for the unhindered pursuit of their power and interests, the gains from transactionalism will become harder to replicate. Hegemons cannot continually monetize their relationships. Allies will diversify to hedge against uncertainty. They'll buy insurance, increase options, in order to rebuild sovereignty. Sovereignity that was once grounded in rules but will increasingly be anchored in the ability to withstand pressure.

00:01:57

The hegemon he's talking about, his name is Donald Trump. Carny wasn't the only world leader who spoke out against the United States right now. Let's hear from Emmanuel Macron, the French President. He's wearing sunglasses during the speech. Why? Because he has an eye issue. Just a heads up.

00:02:11

We do prefer respect to bullies. We do prefer science to plotism, and we do prefer rule of law to brutality. We have a place where rule of law and predictability is still the rule of the game. My guess is that it is largely underpriced by the market. Having a place like Europe, which sometimes is too slow, for sure, and needs to be reformed, for sure, but which is predictable, loyal, and where you know that the rule of the game is just the rule of law, it's a good place. And here in the epicenter of this continent, we do believe that we need more Of course, we need more stability in this world, but we do prefer respect to bullies. We do prefer science to plotism, and we do prefer rule of law to brutality. You're welcome in Europe, and you are more than welcome to France.

00:03:17

Now, the bully he's talking about is Donald Trump in the United States of America. Now, ask yourselves, why are these world leaders coming out against the United States like this? The simple answer is, tariffs. In recent weeks, Donald Trump imposed 10% tariffs on several European countries, Canada not included. Canada is not a European country, obviously, but several European countries like France and the United Kingdom and Finland and Sweden, Norway, others, over the fact that they just won't give up Greenland. Well, now people are furious because even in the United States of America, a new study came out recently showing that American citizens take 96% of the burden as it relates to tariffs. 96% of the burden as it relates to tariffs. The 4% is from foreigners, but 96% of the burden, that US citizens take on. I spoke to Senator Maggie Hassan today, who announced a significant development that because of Donald Trump's tariffs, because of his tariffs, Americans on average paid hundreds, thousands of dollars more per year in 2025 and likely again in 2026. So with that, here is the interview with Senator Hassan. But before you watch that, make sure to like, comment, share, and subscribe.

Super excited today to be joined by Senator Maggie Hassan. Now, I have to ask you at the beginning, there's a new inflation report released by the Joint Economic Committee showing that families in the United States of America have spent $1,600 more in the past year under Trump. What's your reaction to this report, especially as the President says, affordability is a hoax.

00:04:58

Well, I am the top on the Joint Economic Committee, and we are the ones who issued that report. And we measured inflation for families since the day Donald Trump started his second term, so a year ago. What I have been hearing from my constituents is that they are struggling to make ends meet. They are having to decide which bill to pay, which month. Right now, of course, because the President and the Republicans still haven't extended the premium tax credits, for instance, under the ACA, they're really struggling with choices like health care versus rent or mortgage. Donald Trump ran for office saying he was going to lower people's costs, he was going to defeat inflation. He keeps saying that he has. But of course, what this report shows is that the average American family has paid $1,600 more with Trump as President than they did during the year preceding his second term.

00:06:01

Now, I got to ask you, one of the reasons why prices are going up is because of tariffs. Tariffs have impacted Americans, small businesses across our country. The Supreme Court is soon to rule on a case that could invalidate all of his tariffs. He says, Well, if that happens, America's economy is going to go down the drain. We're going to have to pay back a whole lot of money. Do you agree with him?

00:06:21

What we know is that Donald Trump's tariffs have been a key driver to the inflation people are seeing. People want to be able to to build a better life for themselves and their families. They can't do it when the costs of the necessities, the things you actually have to pay for in order to just get started, are so high. What Donald Trump has also said, by the way, is that if the Supreme Court invalidates the tariffs that he's imposed under a particular law, that he's going to find other ways to impose tariffs. This is a President who has chosen to take action to increase people's costs. That's what tariffs do. This is a choice Donald Trump is making. At the end of the day, what we know is tariffs not only get passed on to consumers, it's part of this increased cost in housing and transportation that we're seeing. Those are two of the areas that we really focused on in this report. The average family is paying, I think, a little bit more than $300 more for housing than they did before Donald Trump, and about $250 for transportation than they did. What we know is the passing on of the tariffs to consumers, along with the uncertainty and instability these tariffs cause, that will continue to damage our economy and restrain our growth.

00:07:48

I am hopeful that the Supreme Court will rule against these tariffs. But again, Donald Trump is signaling that he will continue to choose to take actions that actually raise people's costs. Again, fail to live up to the promises he made during this campaign.

00:08:03

Well, so then I think someone watching would say, Okay, he's going to continue taking those actions. What are you and other senators in office going to do to stop him? Because they're worried. I guess you're in the minority, right? There's not much Democrats have the power to do right now. Are Republicans, at least behind the scenes, saying, This is a bridge too far for me. These tariffs don't really like them.

00:08:25

Well, we know that a number of Republicans oppose these tariffs and think they are wrong for the country. They need to stand up to Donald Trump. We continue to push them to do that. We've had, as you know, a legislative action on the Senate floor, trying to hold this President accountable because, of course, Part of the reason there's a case before the Supreme Court is that we challenge the notion that he has the authority to impose these tariffs without Congress's okay. We'll continue to push our Republican colleagues to stand up to him. We'll continue also to pursue policies. In some cases, we may be able to get some bipartisan support, but we'll continue to make our case to the American people. There are policies we could pursue in housing to increase housing supply and help lower the cost in health care, not only to extend the ACA, enhance premium tax credits, something we continue to push the Republicans to do, but there are also a number of bipartisan measures that would lower health care costs. And of course, if the Republicans would reverse the Medicaid cuts that they imposed all to do big tax giveaways to billionaires and corporations, we could lower the overall cost of health care.

00:09:41

Such a critical area. There are other areas, of course, that families are really struggling with. If Donald Trump and his administration would reverse the actions they took to suspend clean energy projects that are underway, we could have lower cost energy for Americans, too. We'll continue not only to push our Republican colleagues to stand up, but to listen to our constituents. They are all talking to us on a daily basis about how expensive things are, what their ideas are for low-run costs. I talk to business leaders all the time who are really clear about the impact tariffs and other things that this administration have had. We'll continue to make our case to the American people so that we can regain a majority and then begin to tackle tackle this affordability crisis the way it should be.

00:10:32

Now, Senator, before I let you go, I do want to ask you about the ACA tax credits that you've mentioned. House passed the bill, Clean Extension. Is there any chance it passes the Senate with a Republican majority?

00:10:42

Yeah, we continue to have bipartisan talks that are serious about a practical compromise here. I would like to do the straight up three-year extension, as you know, that has already been defeated once in the Senate. We continue to have constructive dialog here, but it is long past time for the Republicans to actually fish or cut bait here. The clock is running. We've already seen people decide not to continue their health care on their Health Insurance coverage on the HCA marketplace because of the failure of the Republicans and the President to act here. We need to come to a decision here and get this done before the clock runs out any further. That's something I continue to push to do. It's really about whether the Republicans are going to decide that they want to take this step forward.

00:11:41

Senator, thanks so much for joining me.
