Episode summary

Ben Meiselas reports on Donald Trump's speech in Corpus Christi, Texas, one of two Trump appearances in the state that day, which he describes as a disastrous event before a small crowd. The episode plays clips and walks through what Trump said, including mispronounced names, claims that wartime prices made Americans rich, remarks on tariffs and inflation, a Mar-a-Lago invitation, and claims about Brazil's election and Venezuelan oil.

Meiselas argues the remarks are false and deranged, and listeners get a clip-by-clip account of the speech and the host's responses.

00:00:00

Donald Trump just gave a disastrous speech in Corpus Christi, Texas before a very tiny crowd, perhaps one of his most deranged speeches yet. Take a look at how small this crowd was. Donald Trump spent the speech talking about Kamala Harris and that her name is difficult to pronounce. And so Trump says, is it Kymala, Kumala, Kamala, Kymala? This is what he says to this crowd here. Play this clip.

00:00:27

has a complicated name like Kamala. It's Kamala, Kumala, Kamala, Kumala. Nobody knows how to pronounce it yet. I don't know. And yet they remember Kamala, but they don't remember the name Harris.

00:00:39

Then Donald Trump says we should just call Kamala Harris Cum. Here, play this clip.

00:00:44

By the way, does anybody know? No, they just call her Cum. You know, if you ask somebody, let's do a test. How many people know her last name? Like about 5. Kamala, you just call it Kamala.

00:00:55

Then Donald Trump says something about Talarico, but he calls him Talafrico. And then he glitches when he says Ken Paxton's name. Here, play this clip.

00:01:06

Talafrico will kill millions of Texas jobs. Ken Paxton. Ken, I'll tell you what, Ken Paxton is, you know, we, they talk about him as a lawyer.

00:01:17

Then Donald Trump says something about putting meat in his mouth, and then he does the visual of— well, I won't do it, but here, play this clip.

00:01:26

And he's trying to show, I love the meat! Ah, I love it! Look! And then you see him— where is he?

00:01:33

Whatever this is, play this clip.

00:01:36

Boom, boom, hee hee hee, it's the coolest thing.

00:01:39

Then Donald Trump said that he's frequently asked if he married his sister, and he goes, no, what? Here, play this clip.

00:01:48

They asked me that question a long time ago too, about my sister. Did you marry your sister? I said, no. I said, what?

00:01:58

Trump says, don't worry, everybody's getting really rich right now based on the situation that's happening in the Middle East. He says everybody's rich because we're in war. Here, play this clip.

00:02:07

Absolutely. And by the way, your oil price, so it's coming down, but your country is making An absolute fortune because of the situation in the Middle East. We're steering them all to Texas. We're sailing them to Louisiana.

00:02:22

No, maybe you and your oligarch buds who are trading on inside information, but the rest of the people are actually suffering. Then Donald Trump says, look, when it comes to the catastrophic war, even though I just said you're all getting rich, actually short-term pain for long-term gain. So Donald Trump went from in 2024, on day one, prices will be reduced significantly. $2 a gallon gas, electricity prices cut in half, no more never-ending wars, peace in Ukraine, to short-term pain for long-term gain. And I'll just keep on saying 2 weeks. And then when catastrophe strikes, which it is right now, I'll just blame other people for it. I'll blame Zelensky, I'll blame Democrats. I'll just start doing weird stuff. And then maybe you won't blame me. Here, play this clip of the treasonous traitor sex predator. Let's play this clip. Short-term.

00:03:19

Short-term pain, right? For long-term gain. You're gonna see very soon, you're gonna see those. You'll say, what the hell happened to gasoline? It's so cheap. You'll see, you could have more gasoline.

00:03:31

Then Donald Trump tells everybody that I'm actually much healthier, he says, than former President Obama, because Obama likes to eat a piece of lettuce and the lettuce has to be perfect. And Trump says that he's not that choosy. when it comes to the food that he eats. And this is a major closing message for Donald Trump before the midterms. Let's play this clip.

00:03:51

Because he was so good. And then he became a congressman. They asked, doctor, who is the healthiest? Because he presided over the lives of Barack Hussein Obama and Bush and Trump. And they asked him at a vicious, violent— those people back there, who's the healthiest Of the 3, he said, without question, the healthiest is President Donald J. Trump. And I love that. And a much better golfer. That's— I am a much— that I will agree to. But no, no. But, you know, because Obama, every piece of lettuce he eats has to be perfect. And I don't— I'm not that choosy.

00:04:41

But next, he says that tariffs have created massive wealth for everybody. They create jobs and everybody is rich right now because of the tariffs when we know the opposite is true. And they've caused massive inflation here. Let's play this clip.

00:04:55

Some idiot comes in and terminates them. He will stop construction immediately and so will everybody else. And the $22.2 trillion will be down to maybe zero. And someday somebody is going to realize that tariffs create wealth, they create jobs, and they don't allow the world to toy with you at all. And I ended war because of that. I ended wars because—

00:05:21

Then Donald Trump spreads the lie that's already been debunked that James Talarico has a mental illness. Here, play this clip.

00:05:28

That was a straight— that was a straight— you know, look, That's the way it is. You're not going to change it. You know, it's like meat. He's going around to so many barbecues. That's probably why. Either that or he has a mental illness. He disappeared for 12 to 14 days. It's actually probably 14 if you really look at it. Missing in action. Now, I happen to think he was food poisoned by meat because he can't stand it.

00:07:03

More deranged sound effects from Donald Trump. Let's play it.

00:07:06

I love it. Look,

00:07:07

then Donald Trump says, would you like to be my guest at Mar-a-Lago to the crowd? He says though, the problem would be you wouldn't be able to even afford a hamburger and a small dessert that'll cost you $5,000. So you probably aren't rich enough to even step foot in Mar-a-Lago. Hahaha. You losers. This is his message to the people as people are struggling, as diesel and gas prices surge to record highs, as grocery prices are at record highs, as the 30-year fixed mortgage is at record highs, while our economy is in shambles, while we're in never-ending wars, while electricity prices are sky high. This is what he's saying here. Play this clip.

00:07:44

But the only caveat is that the Trump dividend, it has— you have to spend the money in the United States. Go to Florida, Go to any one of our great places. You could even come to Mar-a-Lago. I said it the other night. You'll be my guest at Mar-a-Lago. The problem is that for $5,000, the most you'll be able to buy is a hamburger and maybe a small dessert. I don't know. I'm not even sure you could buy that. No, don't go there. That's not a good place. If you're price conscious, the choice in this election is very simple. You can vote.

00:08:24

Then he spreads the lie that the Brazilian elections were stolen. Play this clip.

00:08:29

For years, I just couldn't believe because they cheat so well. I figured they didn't have to do this. They're the greatest cheaters of elections, I think, in history. Although Brazil's doing a pretty good job also, aren't they? Did you see that one? That was not nice. I mean, I was, I didn't take sides, but I didn't like, I, it didn't look too good. Or you can defeat the Democrat communists. And

00:08:51

now it should be noted that, uh, we've now learned and can confirm that the State Department has allowed Flávio Bolsonaro, the crooked Brazilian MAGA stooge who lost the election, to travel to the United States where he will be given asylum protection by the United States. Um, that's how utterly cowardly Bolsonaro is and what a criminal rogue mafia regime this Trump regime is. Donald Trump then calls Marco Rubio on stage, and Marco Rubio oddly is like, it's an honor to work for you. And then Rubio runs out, like he runs out of the, uh, bunker or hangar, wherever the hell they are. Watch this. It's odd. Here, play this clip.

00:09:33

Thank you. It's an honor to work for the greatest country in the world, for the greatest president in the history of the United States of America. We love you, Texas. Thank you.

00:09:51

Oh, he's doing a good job. He's doing a great job. I said the other day on the way back from Iran, we're going to drop him off in Cuba. He'll settle that one in about 15 minutes. We're going to parachute him in, just drop him, and he'll figure it out.

00:10:10

Then Donald Trump says we're going to make Venezuela the 51st state and we'll make, uh, them have a governor in the election and then they'll be part of the United States of America. Again, just utterly deranged stuff right here. Play this clip.

00:10:23

In Venezuela that nobody would have thought even possible just one year ago, and we're bringing out a lot of oil for ourselves, a lot. It will become a prosperous country, and who knows, maybe someday soon it will become A prosperous 51st state. That's possible. Let's make it. Let's make it the 51st state. And instead of a president, we'll have an election for a governor. How about that? You know, they have a lot of oil. They have a lot of oil under— you know how you find oil in Venezuela? Harold Hamm is here, the great oilman. Where's Harold?

00:11:01

Donald Trump then says that there's a little ship out there. Can you all see it? With a million barrels of oil from Venezuela. That's amazing. And everybody's gonna do so well because there's this, uh, there's this ship right out there, he says. Here, play this clip.

00:11:16

And one of the many reasons we did it here, we have a little breaking news. You have a little ship. See that little ship out there? It's got 1 million barrels of oil on it from Venezuela, and we're celebrating the greatest oil victory in history. To the victor belong the spoils, right? But thanks to our big victory in our recent war with Venezuela, the oil— and think of this, look at that ship, is that beautiful? Finally, we've had many come in already. We've had many come in for refinement. They refine the oil, but the oil on the ships outside is being provided to the United States at zero cost to the American taxpayer. That's not bad. The Democrats will attack us. What kind of a deal is that? What kind of a deal is that? Booo! I want to thank Venezuela, where our relationship has become very, very good, a great one. And billions and billions of dollars are being invested now by the biggest oil companies, many of which come from Texas, all over the world. And jobs are happening in Venezuela that nobody would have thought even possible just one year ago. And we're bringing out a lot of oil for ourselves, a lot.

00:12:46

Now, obviously, he's lying about everything. It's the most deranged stuff, just like when he says he's brought in $22 trillion. Everything out of his mouth, every sound, syllable, and utterance is a lie. He's going to be speaking, uh, elsewhere in Texas this evening, which we'll be covering as well. Um, but that's the Corpus Christi speech. Uh, get WTF America: The Way Out of This Hell and Back to Democracy.
