Look, between getting up early for the show, watching hockey late at night, and everything else going on, I'm trying to do a better job of taking care of myself, but I'm not trying to take a whole bunch of different supplements every morning. That's why I started using IM8. IM8 Daily Ultimate Essentials combines 16 supplements and 90 ingredients supporting 9 major organ systems into one drink. It was co-founded by David Beckham and developed by leading doctors and researchers. I just got my package and started working it into my morning routine, and that lemon orange flavor is my favorite. That is delicious. So far, I like how simple it is. One drink and I'm not dealing with a cabinet full of bottles, and I'm looking forward to sticking with it. There is nothing casual about football season. You can tell yourself you're just gonna watch one game, and 6 hours later, you're emotionally invested in a 4th quarter between 2 teams you don't even care about. That's what I love about this time of year. The entire weekend becomes football. You're texting friends, tracking games, second-guessing coaches, convincing yourself you saw something before everybody else did. And then Monday comes around and you get to do the whole thing again. Those are the weekends you remember. And for me, some of the best ones have usually involved some good people, a great game, and a cold Miller Lite. No matter what triumphs are in store this season, legendary game days start with Miller Lite. Cold, crisp, refreshing, that clean finish. And it's part of plenty of memorable football weekends. Make game day legendary. Go to millerlite.com/dan to find delivery options near you, or you can pick up some Miller Lite pretty much anywhere they sell beer. Game time is Miller time. Celebrate responsibly. Miller Brewing Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 96 calories and 3.2 carbs per 12 ounces.

Zazz made a great decision Last night to not watch the hockey, not watch the basketball, and just go see AEW wrestling in Coral Gables. How was it?

00:02:23

Great, great. It was always going to be great, even if the Heat and Panthers played good games last night. But it was especially great because holy crap, was that bad for our local sports team. So Dynamite was awesome last night. Uh, me and my son, we were front row. I think we, we were on TV a bunch. We had a great time.

00:02:40

I was watching Zazz with his son. That was really cute. Like, that was— Zazz is a good dad.

00:02:45

We love wrestling.

00:02:46

Also, Bang Bang Gang and the Dawgs teaming up. What?

00:02:50

What? What?

00:02:52

Clark Connors was in a very big angle last night. Maybe the biggest angle of the night. He was a big star last night.

00:02:58

Is that what we call storylines?

00:03:00

Yeah, an angle.

00:03:01

Angle?

00:03:01

Okay, cool. Angle.

00:03:02

Just, I don't know the terminology.

00:03:04

Yeah, so Chris Cody, I realized today, like Kim Bo-Kamper, is stuck in 1980 because Kim, uh, Kim Bo-Kamper is talking to Joe Rose and Chris Cody, Not unlike his father, who also drove this way through the 1980s. Chris Cody's show prep is listening to the Big Dog still after all these years. That's where he gets his sports information. And he came in here today and he's like, I just simply couldn't believe what Kim Boekehamper was doing.

00:03:29

I had my mouth open with my hand on my chest driving.

00:03:32

Really? Like rosary beads against your chest?

00:03:35

I was— it is just— Joe Rose is like the Jeremy of that show. I'm telling you, Kim Boekehamper was saying things that had me with my mouth open. He's just like, I don't want to hear women talking about WNBA. Like, he's just saying things that I'm like, what decade is this?

00:03:52

Okay, but go ahead and tell me what he was saying because I asked you to get me the audio. That, that wasn't part of your show prep. And so now I need you to paraphrase better than you just did right there.

00:04:02

I don't want to hear women talking about the WNBA. No, no, I don't want to hear women talking about the NBA. Talk about the WNBA. Where's that bald woman? He said a—

00:04:10

he just started listing. Oh, Christine, the bald girl.

00:04:13

And then, and then Hollywood— I don't know if he was talking about McNutt.

00:04:15

Well, no, her, her Twitter account is That Bald Girl.

00:04:18

And then Monica McNutt he was going after because of— they were just having fun with that name. It was just— I'm telling you, it was, it was, it was shocking.

00:04:27

I guess having fun with her name.

00:04:29

Came to the wrong show.

00:04:30

Hollywood's just like, oh yeah, McNutt, I bet you like that one, Kim. Like, you know, because wait a minute, because her name is Nutt.

00:04:35

Wait a minute.

00:04:36

I'm telling you, it was, it was jaw-dropping.

00:04:38

You didn't just say that a man named Kim disparaging women was making fun of somebody else's name?

00:04:47

Yes, it was just— I'm telling you, I feel bad now calling him out here. I don't know why I feel bad. Yeah, you should. I'm like bringing light to this, but it's—

00:04:56

Wait a minute, what do you feel bad— you feel bad for taking something that was said publicly, or at least on AM radio, something that was said in front of people who could hear potentially if they were stuck in 1980 And Kim is just like, oh man, your daughters would not like this.

00:05:11

Like, you're just blatantly talking like—

00:05:13

Kim or Joe?

00:05:14

Joe was telling Kim—

00:05:15

He's rattled right now, Dan, because of the fact that he just went after Kim, and that's gonna be a problem.

00:05:20

Remember, Joe is the Jeremy of that show. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:05:22

You know what snitches get.

00:05:24

Oh, they get hurt.

00:05:26

Can already hear Hollywood coming after me.

00:05:29

Chris, Chris, you can't feel bad. You can't. You're simply not allowed to feel bad. That Kim Boakamp said something on AM radio that you repeated, and you're betraying Kim Boakamp as if he said it to you privately in the bathroom. Like, he said— the only reason you heard it is because he said it on a public platform, and you're feeling bad for protecting somebody who doesn't know how to talk about women because he was born when the cavemen were. And I will never say this to his face because even at 700 years old, that man will rise from the grave 700 years after he has passed and bury me.

00:06:07

The forearms on that guy.

00:06:11

You are listening to the Dan Levitan Show in partnership with the DraftKings Sports app, now live in all 50 states. I have what I believe to be legitimately big news, uh, to rattle college football. Uh, that I want to start with, but I can't because I need to deconstruct with the group how awful Chris Cody was during the Shadow Show.

00:06:40

We can just move on.

00:06:41

No, no, I need to stay here for a second. I want us all to examine this.

00:06:45

I don't want to hear women talking about the WNBA.

00:06:48

It's a shocking thing to say.

00:06:49

I just threw a W in there.

00:06:51

You're going to want to clarify.

00:06:52

No, not yet. Not yet. I want to deconstruct. I want to deconstruct the all of this.

00:06:57

But that's like super unfair.

00:06:59

No, no.

00:07:00

Ruined my career that set.

00:07:00

No, no, no. Look, you need to stop talking for a minute.

00:07:04

I have a career.

00:07:05

I— you did when you walked in here today, but you are on perilous ground right now because I hear the bowling and the beers in your throat. And I threw the show to you in the shadow show. I threw the shadow show to you and you said nothing right. Nothing right.

00:07:19

You know what you did?

00:07:20

And sounded bad saying it. Back off. And sounded bad saying it. And this wasn't the worst of it somehow.

00:07:27

I don't want to hear women talking about the WNBA.

00:07:30

That's not the worst of it. You protecting Kim Boakyeper, who's on AM radio talking publicly and then misquoting him and making him Joe Rose. Put it on the poll, please. Is Joe Rose the Jeremy of the Joe Rose Show? While explaining nothing to the audience about what you heard correctly.

00:07:49

Which one is that an insult to?

00:07:50

I have legitimate UM news that I believe should be treated a bit bombshelly because the business of college football right now is such that Miami's realized it's Notre Dame. Miami's realized that it's got the strength. Wait a minute.

00:08:04

No, no, no, no, no.

00:08:04

We don't have to be in your conference. No, no. We're big business now. You guys all know that if Miami's at the top of your conference, whatever conference it is, your conference matters. That Miami football matters that way. And the president of the school, a businessman, is doing something that was not present at any point in my life when it came to University of Miami program support. support. It's always been an uneasy relationship. The president, the library, they never understand football. This guy understands football, and he's like, hey, all this realignment stuff that you're doing, you need our help if we're going to be at the top of the sport, because we're going to be here for a while. And so he gave a Yahoo interview that I think is interesting, but I need to deconstruct what happened in the shadow show. And I'll get to the Heat stuff, and I'll get to the Brady-Kachuk stuff, because it's all interesting. But I'm starting with Kim Bowkamper and how phlegmy your voice, voice sounded. It's bowling and beer, correct? That was the problem this morning?

00:08:50

I'm also sick.

00:08:51

But sick from beers?

00:08:52

During Shadow Show, I took the show and I put it on my back. That's what I did. And I carried it.

00:08:57

He said that in my ear.

00:08:59

He said that?

00:09:00

Good stuff.

00:09:01

Do you want to now explain again more correctly what you were doing listening to AM radio on the way in as your show prep, as your show prep, and how it is that you drove in traffic with your mouth hanging open because you could not believe that Kim Bo-Kamper, a caveman from another time who will kick your ass no matter what age he is, I've told you guys, I put my hand in his chest one time, and when he batted it down, it felt like my arms had been hit by a log, like that he had swung a log or an ax. And I'm not small, I'm not small, but this is—

00:09:38

The opposite.

00:09:38

This is a substantive man. Explain again what Kim Bocamper was doing on the public Joe Rogan Show that you were listening to A show that is still broadcast to the masses, and you were not overhearing in the bathroom in an airport or at Kim Bocamper's bar.

00:09:57

He was doing a show I would have expected in the '60s. He was just bashing women. He was just like, I don't want to hear from women about sports. Talk about maybe the WNBA, but I'll give you the WNBA.

00:10:10

Not definitely, maybe.

00:10:11

Shut up.

00:10:11

And the bald one, I don't want to hear from the bald one. Like, he just— just shrapnel. attacking women. I had my— I was aghast.

00:10:20

And what was, uh, aghast or aghast?

00:10:22

No, man, just let me live!

00:10:27

What was Joe Rose's reaction to this? What was the big—

00:10:29

Jeremy of the Joe Rose Show?

00:10:30

He was like, oh, your daughters would hate this, man. If your daughters played basketball, you wouldn't be saying this.

00:10:36

It was— it was—

00:10:37

I'm telling you, it was shocking.

00:10:40

Can you get me the sound, please?

00:10:42

No.

00:10:44

All right.

00:10:44

We had a reenactment. He did a reenactment.

00:10:46

A poor one.

00:10:47

So Ross Bellinger has the story today.

00:10:49

Dellinger.

00:10:50

Dellinger, excuse me. It's Yahoo Sports. And you have Joe Echeverria. Echeverria. He is the president of the University of Miami. He's a businessman. And I just want to go through some of the history here, because many, many years ago, when the University of Miami was discovering that football could be a source of great power, but the library was uncomfortable with it, they had an uneasy relationship with Tad Foote, who never really understood the amount of money and power and influence that was being brought into the University of Miami. He wanted to be the Harvard of the South as a private institution, and the football program, which was uncomfortable and dangerous, made Miami matter everywhere in the country, and so he had discomforts with it. The University of Miami football program, I don't believe, even though Donna Shalala was somebody who was supportive, doesn't and has never had a president who understands the value of the business of football like the president it presently has.

00:11:47

Or one who's a fan.

00:11:49

And so he realizes the power that is in his office. And the quotes that he is giving in this Yahoo story says, no, we can be an independent, we're good. And he just understands the position that he's in with negotiating of leverage because Mario Cristobal has this. No matter how finicky you think college football is, everyone seems to understand, oh, Miami's going to be here for a while now.

00:12:13

Right.

00:12:13

Like, this isn't— this isn't a 1-year thing. They've sort of figured out the business of we know how to get the better players. And that doesn't mean that they can't lose to Pittsburgh. It doesn't mean that they can't lose to Notre Dame. But it's fixed here. And if Miami is fixed, it's something you haven't had in 20 years as a business model. We have already learned Mario Cristobal has been worth his investment. I would also say and have said that Deion Sanders was worth The investment because he built something in the short term that brought notoriety and name to Colorado, got them out of the cellar of being the very worst and least relevant. But that's expired. He's going to leave quietly. Everyone thinks with Mario Cristobal that the best is ahead. That's the feeling. And the president of the university knows it. And he understands the business and he understands what strange times we're in and that Miami has a power to influence now because I do believe that as an independent, Miami can represent as a Notre Dame. I do. I don't think that Miami has to be substantively smaller than Notre Dame when it comes to the power of independence.

00:13:16

But back then, they had to get into a conference, right? And so they went to a basketball conference in the ACC. They were talking to the Big East because they wanted to make their basketball program relevant. Now they're talking about, we don't need a conference at all, we'll be our own conference.

00:13:30

Do we believe like Is Joe Echevarria— is it a negotiating tactic, or does he really believe that they can be independent again and thrive?

00:13:39

All right, so that was in the headline, but there's so much more to what Joe was doing in that interview. All of this was intent, and it was directed at ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips. I wish I had a camera on Jim Phillips when he read this article. Yeah, Joe mentions that, look, We're a big enough national brand that we can go independent. Remember, part of the Protect College Sports Act kind of requires that. And that's really been driven by the ACC. That's Jim Phillips being worried that Miami would leave. But Joe, in this—

00:14:12

Miami clearly the top dog now in the ACC.

00:14:15

Yeah, clearly in terms of national brand ratings. Now that they're good, they know where they're positioned. But that, that's a two-way street. They know that they have leverage. They know that they have power. They know that they're a big national brand. But they also understand that they are second-class citizens in the power-broking world that is college football. Mario Cristobal, Miami, they don't like this 24-team playoff.

00:14:36

And they never had a say.

00:14:36

Very few people do, and they lament that in this article because we're not— because that's driven by the Big Ten and the SEC, these conferences that ruined college football by expanding it to the point that it was and now want to make sure that you can have 4 losses exist in their conference and get into a CFP. Miami didn't have a say. Now, in this article, he comes out and says, we fit the Big Ten. He calls his shot. He's like, regionally we fit the SEC, but regions don't matter anymore. We're an AAU program. We fit the profile of the Big Ten. Jim Phillips is driving legislation to prevent that from happening. And Joe Echevarria just said in plain terms, all right, game on.

00:15:13

Here's where the game goes from here, though. If you don't understand the business of what we're talking about and how Miami can be a real pioneering disruptor, A real pioneering disruptor. We'll just sign something with Prime. We'll just, we'll just sign something with Netflix. We like a real disruptor. Miami. There are very few programs that actually have this power because of the power of the football brand. If you don't have any allegiance to a conference and you don't get what you want in business negotiations because people aren't valuing you and you're independent enough to be strong enough to do it on your own, they can. With a man who knows the power and fandom of what it is to have the value of the University of Miami in charge from the position of president of the university. I can't tell you how rare it is in my experience in Miami for a president to really understand the position Miami's been in. No president the last 20 years has had this power at Miami because it's not obvious that the program can get back to where it was. But I think you could love Alabama, you could love USC, you could love all of these programs that have had tradition and power.

00:16:27

But very rare is the program that can be gone for 20 years and people still remember that it matters. It's Miami and Notre Dame. And I guess I'll give you Alabama, and I could do some of this, but there aren't 10 of them and there might not be 5. And Miami has a chance to really disrupt something here without allegiances to the ACC.

00:16:49

And even more rare, you can win as many games as Miami did. all but the last one and come away with the amount of money that they did pales in comparison to the SEC, pales in comparison to the Big Ten. And Miami realizes Rutgers is getting that potentially, you know, that they're getting those pieces of the pie. They're getting a say. Vanderbilt's getting a say.

00:17:12

Are they getting the same amount of money as the teams that are finishing at the bottom of those 2 conferences?

00:17:15

The ACC had to fix a lot of stuff. So Miami actually was like the first example in the ACC's history of maxing out the amount of revenue. They didn't have to split it. to the degree that SEC teams have to. But still, in terms of revenue from just existing in their conference, the— and the lack of power, the lack of being able to have a say in reshaping college football the way that the Big Ten is right now, Miami sees some of these other programs that aren't trying to be great and they're like, bump that.

00:17:44

So I urge you to read this Ross Dellinger article on Yahoo Sports. And so you understand that this is the first salvo. I understand that many of you probably aren't going to be interested in that one. We have the hockey and the basketball stories to talk about from last night. But the business of this is fascinating. The potential to disrupt is fascinating. The potential to be a pioneer in the new age is fascinating. And the public negotiations of this— a president doesn't allow Yahoo into his office to do this unless he's trying to send a message somewhere specifically. There's no reason to do this unless you've begun the negotiations.

00:18:21

Yeah, Joe, let it be known who the athletic director is at the moment and leveraging things like independent independence and acknowledging that it may put the other sports in a tricky spot, but you're able to handle it, and, um, and talking in pretty plain terms about going elsewhere. You don't see that. This was a move. This was a coordinated effort. And it'll be interesting to see what the ACC has to say about it.

00:18:44

Let's request him. I would like to sort of understand a little bit better because I remember when, uh, Shalayla was here and stuff, uh, the closest that the president got to things is, hey, let's move from the Orange Bowl to Joe Robbie Stadium and make sure my skybox has the where it's supposed to be so that I could be important at the games. It's a good perk. But it's not— and it's as close to the program or sort of real— at least she was at the games. Like, at least she wanted to be around something that didn't embarrass her, which can't be said of previous administrations because the relationship with Tad Foote and Jimmy Johnson was horrible because of how upsetting Jimmy Johnson found it that Tad Foote had no earthly understanding of the value of the program and everything that he was doing while it propped up everything for Miami Like, the football program made people understand and know what the University of Miami campus was.

00:19:37

00:20:40

Going for 2 when you're up by 5. Switching the zone when man isn't working. Oh, and building your new stadium in the state your team actually plays in. In sports, some things just make sense. You know what else makes sense? Drinking Jägermeister shots ice cold. Drinking it any other way would be like punting on first down, or letting your worst hitter bat first, or like going for 2 when you're down 3 with a second to go. It wouldn't make any sense. So don't let the team down. When it comes to Jägermeister, drink it cold or don't drink it at all.

00:21:15

Jägermeister. Damn, that's cold. Drink responsibly.

00:21:18

Jägermeister liqueur, 35% alcohol by volume, imported by Mast-Jägermeister U.S., White Plains, New York.

00:21:23

Dan Le Batard.

00:21:24

Let's throw it to my boy Jeremy Taché, who's sideline right now.

00:21:28

Tash Money, what you got for me? Jeremy Taché.

00:21:31

Thanks, Jax.

00:21:32

This is the Dan Le Batard Show. Last night, I think a lot of people, as I've been telling you here, the analysis after one game and one week And one month is going to be really bad throughout basketball because none of this stuff matters, because none of these people are going to be healthy at the end of the season, or we don't know who's healthy and we'll figure all this out. So a lot of people are going to jump to certain conclusions about how that looked to Miami, and I'm going to be one of the few here to tell you how encouraging I found last night for the Miami Heat, because Giannis looks like that. Any team in the league who takes 53s and makes 42% of them—

00:22:21

You got a chance.

00:22:21

Is going to win the game it is playing in the NBA. And so I find it frustrating that basketball is played this way now, because when I have to watch the Celtics make 12 of the 53s, I'm like, this looks like people who don't know how to play basketball. Like, what it end— it's not fair and it's not right. But so much has been distorted in that sport since Mike D'Antoni about you got to take 53s, get to 53s, figure out how to get to 53s. If you make 42% of them, every team in the league is going to lose that night. And that's how people are playing now. And if you have Anthony Edwards, that's wonderful, except when he goes 5 for 20 from 3, because he's taking more 3s than he has ever taken by a ton, because he can get them whenever he wants against whoever he wants. And so I— let me be one of the few to tell you that last night I shrugged my shoulders and I'm like, man, it's good that Giannis looks like that.

00:23:13

Yeah.

00:23:13

And that's my only takeaway. And he can also get hurt. But my only takeaway is, whoa, that's going to be at the center of everything they're doing all season.

00:23:20

Yeah, I'm, I'm totally with you. I, I found last night to be annoying. I, I had the game on my phone. I was trying to keep track of it while I was watching AEW. So I did see a lot of the game last night. I'm not speaking out of turn here. I, I, I had the same opinion as you did when Ball and Edwards are going to combine to attempt 33-pointers, just the two of them, and they're going to make 14 of them between the two of them. like, there's not a whole lot you could do. Giannis, yeah, it was, it was like having LeBron again, what he was doing. He gets to the basket whenever he wants, he finishes around the basket, he gets the free throw in a ton, and airballs free throw.

00:23:56

Yeah.

00:23:56

But, but for the most part, like, Giannis looked incredible. So I just— last night was stupid. It was annoying because, okay, you want to set the tone, and now instead the tone is like, oh, the Heat got their shit kicked in opening night. and people like me are talking this entire preseason, but no one was beating the Wolves last night.

00:24:15

Yeah, I heard that one actually. I got self-conscious about it because it's the coffee. I just realized it. Uh, I was very disappointed that they stayed in drop coverage almost the entire game.

00:24:26

That seems to be the big complaint about them defensively. I don't understand then why—

00:24:29

Well, I just— so, so LaMelo and Edwards are going to get those shots all season against everybody. They're not going to make that many shots.

00:24:36

They were 4-of-9 steps too. Yeah.

00:24:38

Minnesota, Minnesota is the rare, the rare team that has said, we think our missing piece is immaturity. We need to get immaturity and we need to get LaMelo Ball.

00:24:51

This appears to be Minnesota's DNA in roster construction. Like, we understand we're not going to attract like the big high-end people in free agency, so we're gonna make trades on guys with high ceilings that are kind of weird fits that people don't know what to do with, like Rudy Gobert. And, and ball. And we're gonna have people question this, but we have Ant Edwards and that's gonna make everything work. Came away really impressed with Minnesota. I also thought defensively, since the guys that we have in and that we have point-of-attack defenders, that we would kind of lean into our strengths there. But I'm glad that you guys are taking the Giannis route there. Everyone was quick to like start going at Bam and how he fits into this. My deal is the coach and that player will figure it out if he looks that good.

00:25:32

Minnesota the last couple years has struggled without a point guard that has been able to take some of the load off of Anthony Edwards to score. Now with LaMelo Ball, they have that, right? Size was never an issue with Rudy Gobert down low. They traded some of that size to get a scoring guard opposite Anthony Edwards, and it seems to be working if they're gonna hit all of their 3s. Of course they're not, but at least it gives you a glimpse into the future of what it could look like.

00:25:52

What would make you say that LaMelo is immature?

00:25:55

You're a dad now, a 10-month-old son, right? He just turned 9 months. 9 months. So are you a— are you a diaper changer man? Oh, nah, my girl do all that. It's love for sure. Oh, come on, you do all that, you know what I'm saying?

00:26:08

We got a good—

00:26:08

we got a—

00:26:09

we got a good game plan going on, so I know what I got to do to bring to the table. She know what she got to do, bring to the table, man. You don't know what you're missing, I'm telling you that. I, I hope you have a great— I done did it before, you feel me? Okay, I know, I got you. Yeah, yeah, I definitely did it before.

00:26:24

It's just—

00:26:24

it's just not my job, you know what I'm saying? It's not my job. I hope you have a great night tonight in your Minnesota debut, man. Thanks for spending a couple of minutes Yes, sir.

00:26:33

You too. Appreciate you, brother.

00:26:34

Always.

00:26:34

Thank you.

00:26:35

Chris Cody, do you feel bad for LaMelo Ball there?

00:26:38

I mean, I already tried to help him.

00:26:40

That we would play that publicly and embarrass him that way when he was clearly not knowing that he was in a public setting talking about women and his inability to change diapers that way.

00:26:49

It's a rough look.

00:26:50

The things that I wanted to cover last night, because if you're never changing drop coverage, then you're fearing what Rudy Gobert is going to do to you on the— like, what?

00:27:01

I thought you were just saying if you're never changing diapers.

00:27:06

Dump coverage. If you're not changing dump coverage, the idea that the Minnesota Timberwolves would outscore the Heat, whatever it was, 60 to 20 from 3. I'm just going to keep— it's boring analysis, I think, right? To say, well, yeah, Minnesota will win the championship if they do that all season. No one will beat them. That's it.

00:27:31

Pretty easy math.

00:27:31

That's it.

00:27:32

42% of 3s?

00:27:33

Okay.

00:27:33

That's it. And I believe the analysis today is going to be the opposite of that. I believe it's, oh, lost by 20 at home.

00:27:40

Yes.

00:27:40

Oh, I believe that people are going to have reinforced their opinion of, oh no, that's not going to work in Miami. Look, Minnesota's a real contender. That's what happened, correct?

00:27:50

Yes. And they can't shoot 3s.

00:27:52

That—

00:27:53

who's going to shoot 3s to them? Oh wow, what a surprise. They were 24%. Yes, that's— that's—

00:27:57

yes. But it's, but it's not just 24% because that's bad enough. The idea that people are going to notice today that the Miami Heat lost by 20 at home. They're not going to notice today that the Miami Heat were outscored by 40 points from 3. And, and it's a distortion that's happening throughout the sport and it makes people check out on the sport. Like the Celtics have lost Zazz already where he just can't watch them anymore. And old people who remember a different kind of basketball, when they watch a team shoot 53s and miss 38 of them or, or miss 42 of them, they're like, this isn't good basketball. This isn't even basketball.

00:28:36

But the way that Miami's roster construction is sitting presently, they're going to get outscored from downtown a lot, right?

00:28:45

If you're going to be disappointed by anything Giannis-related, it would be that he needs to create more for others. And that's why he's saying after the game, we have to trust each other, etc. That starts with him. He's got the Like, the, the best nights they will have from 3 is when he's distributing, not when he's doing this. He can do 11 for 15 whenever he wants. Like, that— he— that he's too close to the rim and can do things athletically that I think I can say only 2 players in the sport can still do, because LeBron's not— he's not doing this anymore. There are only 2. Do I—

00:29:18

is—

00:29:18

well, Jokic, I guess.

00:29:19

Jokic.

00:29:19

Jokic as well, but, but he does it differently, right? Jokic is not Doing it from, I'm going to be at the free throw line and I'm just going to dunk from here. Like, Jokic does it somehow differently. Wembanyama and Giannis can just reach over you and put the ball in the basket because athletic people don't look athletic around them. That's not how Jokic is doing it. Is there a third player that can do what Wemby specifically— when you're watching a basketball game and you're like, this is an extraterrestrial, this is somebody who is vastly more athletic than all of the athletic people out there? Is there a third? Because I don't even do that with Anthony Edwards, and I probably should, right? Because—

00:29:57

But paint presence, you're saying? Like a guy that can just be so dominant inside?

00:30:00

I'm talking about the efficiency of whenever he wants, 12 for 16. Like, that's what the stat line's— with, with 13 free throws whenever he wants, every single game, no matter who he's playing against. It doesn't matter who the opponent is throughout the history of time. That's something that he can give you in any game.

00:30:19

Jalen Brunson's there.

00:30:22

I guess he is, but I don't do that one as if it's just athleticism.

00:30:25

I mean, he has to work really hard.

00:30:26

He does.

00:30:27

But that—

00:30:27

but it happens every time.

00:30:29

Yes, it does have— except an opening night against Philadelphia. But it happens a great deal. And I still don't think it's going to happen the way I always think it's going to happen with Wemby and Antetokounmpo. Regardless, though, the national coverage today of people who already think that the Heat aren't going to be good— and Bill Simmons said not good at defense— to see the Heat give up the 3rd largest point total on the night. Right. And no one else scored a lot more. Whoever scored more last night was by 1 or 2 points, whether it was Atlanta or whoever else it was. There is no way that the Minnesota Timberwolves will lose a single game if they play this game. They'll be undefeated. Yeah, if they play this game all season, will not lose one time if they shoot 53s and make 42% of them.

00:31:14

I got whiplash trying to follow Simmons so far. Let's get a quarter of the season in. He'll settle.

00:31:19

Dan Le Batard.

00:31:21

World Rawr 3.

00:31:22

Mike Ryan.

00:31:23

We're gonna get that off the ground.

00:31:24

World Rawr 3, colon, our group chat has a pretty good feeling about this one.

00:31:28

This is the Dan Le Batard Show. The Brady-Kachuk stuff, do you want— is there anything else Heat-related here that needs to be discussed? Because I know a lot of people are going to want— this is going to be a national story today.

00:31:41

Okay. Well, I, I would say their next game is Friday at home against Detroit, don't start 0-2.

00:31:46

I've got SportsCenter on mute over here, and the local team that I've seen highlighted so far is the Florida Panthers and Brady Tkachuk.

00:31:56

Oh man.

00:31:57

What happened?

00:31:57

I just, you know, I'm excited about the Panthers last night. I'm watching the game, you know, when I get home, and, you know, they go down 4-1. I stay up late to watch, like, enough of this shit, and I turned it off. I mean, I was looking forward to last night. We— they got there, they got their butts kicked.

00:32:14

Oh, but it was great anyway though because you have the theater.

00:32:17

It's great when my team wins. That's when it's great.

00:32:19

I mean, Brady Tkachuk scored.

00:32:20

The goal was cool.

00:32:21

Yeah, yeah.

00:32:22

He scored the first goal and then they never scored again.

00:32:24

Right, right. Them going up 1-0 was fun, you know, but I— Dan, I said here yesterday, obviously they're gonna boo him every time he touches the puck. Everybody knew that. But what are they gonna do when they show the tribute video? And I felt they are going to boo over that tribute video. And they did boo over that tribute video. But the place where I was surprised was I found myself— I felt bad for Brady Tkachuk in that moment. You don't feel bad for him when he's skating on the ice and he's touching the puck and they're booing. But when they're showing the tribute video and they're raining boos and he's just sitting on the bench watching it and they're booing, I felt bad for him.

00:33:02

Okay, so let's deconstruct this one for a second. Play some of that sound, Roy, of Brady Tkachuk. This was the captain of Ottawa. He has a relationship with the city. These relationships I think are precious and should be treasured. I don't think Brady Tkachuk treasures this one in any meaningful way. I don't think he gives a great deal of thought, hurt. I don't think that that's the way that that brain functions. I believe the Tkachuk brothers smirk to themselves and then get into fights last night because they like to smirk to themselves and get into fights. I, I don't think—

00:33:34

This just feels like any booing. Did we just get like booing We just Googled booing.

00:33:38

Public domain booing. Yes, we get it near the ragtime music. Yes, it's just random booing from a video game. That's not from Ottawa last night. Roy can find booing like that anywhere on the internet at any point. No emotion in it, nothing. It's just random stale plastic booing.

00:33:53

Ah, no, no, no, no, the fans chanted last night as well.

00:33:56

Didn't hear it there.

00:33:57

Did you have any sound that would support that belief?

00:34:00

No, but I do have all the chants that they actually said.

00:34:02

Roy has a list. Of the chants that the crowd threw at him.

00:34:07

So why don't you do this while playing that public domain booing music that you were just playing that's clearly just booing anytime, anyplace in history. It's not booing from last night in Ottawa. And it just sounds like a general restlessness, by the way, like a discomfort. It doesn't even sound like booing. It sounds like an old air conditioner that won't turn off.

00:34:25

All right. They said, uh, Brady sucks.

00:34:28

Good fuck you, Brady.

00:34:29

Quoting the Cheers?

00:34:30

Yeah, you can't read. You eat crayons. We don't need you. Baby brother. Little brother. Brady's inbred. Timmy's better. Oh, talking about Tim Stutzle. Ella's better. They're talking about Lars Eller, who's currently a Panther. Stutzle is better. Ella's better. Fuck the Panthers. Fuck your podcast.

00:34:54

Roy, Roy, you got too much going on here, okay? Look, let's settle it down, slow it down, and play the buoy. Let's, let's start over. Let's start over. Okay, let's start over. Let's have enough of the public domain booing that it doesn't run out while you're doing the chants. Let's not have any repeats of any of the chants. What— Tony, why are you—

00:35:12

Bleep your podcasts and you eat crayons were my favorites.

00:35:15

Well, they're clearly— so did you feel bad because they were calling Brady dumb? Did you feel bad? Was the chanting—

00:35:23

When they showed, when they showed the fan up against the glass wearing the Sloth from Goonies mask. I mean, come on.

00:35:33

What are you feeling bad about though? Because this is the thing I don't understand about what's happening here this morning. Chris Cody feels bad for Kim Bokamper when Kim— when Kim Bokamper doesn't feel bad for Kim Bokamper. And I think Zazz feels bad for Brady Tkachuk when Brady Tkachuk doesn't feel bad for Brady Tkachuk. So what? Yeah, they were calling him dumb, but you know why it is it doesn't bother him? Because yeah, he eats crayons. These 2 brothers are assholes on purpose. They like it and we love them and it's funny. But torching a relationship with your city when you were the captain, that's not a normal thing. Like, to be okay with it, to smirk throughout it when you're like, those people kind of loved you and you did good things with them, for them, around them. And did you feel bad for that part, that he just squandered it all? Hey, you guys, baby moves.

00:36:24

I'm not sure it registers all that much. I do think he cares about the relationships he had. He had dinner, um, with some of the former teammates that he had in Ottawa, and some people opted to go, some people opted against it. I think he cares about the people there, but I think he's taking it in stride, like, whatever, it's Ottawa, I'm where I want to be.

00:36:42

When he jumped off the bench during— like, when the tribute video stopped playing, he jumped off the bench to kind of salute the fans, you know, who are all booing him. He had a big smile on his face.

00:36:50

Well, this is the thing though, I'm watching him. This, this is what happened to me. Okay? And I'm not saying this pejoratively. I'm saying I just can't believe that an athlete who played so long in a city and has a relationship with those people— and it doesn't have to be like Damian Lillard with Portland, but it's not— I'm coming back there, I'm setting fire to everything, and I'm smirking in the middle of it because I don't care that I've lit the fuse to set fire to everything that I had in this city. I thought to myself, that is somewhere on the sports spectrum. Like, I'm not saying he's on the spectrum. I'm saying in terms of behavior I have seen from players with relationships with the city, that's behavior that's on the spectrum. I've never seen something quite that extreme about you're grinning maniacally because you enjoy that you just set fire to this whole thing. And they're booing you and you're kind of— I don't think he's faking it or wearing a mask or it's armor, that he's kind of bemused by loud noises. Why are they making all those loud noises? For me, it's great that they're making those loud noises.

00:38:03

Here's a goal. Here's a— here's the first goal of the game.

00:38:06

That part was fun. The rest of the game, not fun.

00:38:09

Do I have it wrong? Is Brady Tkachuk on the sports spectrum?

00:38:14

Let's not put that on the poll.

00:38:20

Bill Zito joining us later.

00:38:21

They're wearing Goonie masks. They're, they're in the crowd wearing masks, and I think he's just like, it's Halloween. I don't think he even thinks that's about him.

00:38:34

I love that movie.

00:38:35

He's like, we're celebrating.

00:38:37

Is it movie night?

00:38:37

I thought Halloween was October 31st. What, it's tonight? We're doing Halloween tonight?

00:38:42

Maybe it's when they do it in Canada.

00:38:43

Sounds like things went really bad for the Panthers last night.

00:38:46

When'd you get here? Have you been hiding? Did you get here late on purpose because the Heat, uh, the Heat did what they did last night?

00:38:51

No, when I saw what they did, I was aghast.

00:38:58

Checks out.

00:39:00

I salute you on having learned a little something about efficiency and how to mock your brothers, but I still wonder, where have you been? You came running in late and we're done talking about the Heat, and you came in breathlessly as if somebody wanted to hear your opinion.

00:39:14

Yeah, I was, I was debating whether or not I wanted to show up because I was so frustrated by the way that it feels to cover the team for us as opposed to the broadcast.

00:39:22

Cover the Heat for us?

00:39:23

Yeah, I cover the Heat for Metalog Media now, the way Roy covers the Panthers for Metalog Media.

00:39:27

Well, what do you mean it's frustrating?

00:39:29

Oh, it's a completely different experience.

00:39:31

You went to the game last night still?

00:39:32

Yeah, I was there.

00:39:33

As a member of the press?

00:39:34

As a member of the media. Yeah, I was there.

00:39:35

Why?

00:39:36

Because I have a job to do. I'm covering the team.

00:39:39

That's a job you gave him, covering the team for us?

00:39:42

Yeah, I want to— I'm around, I'm smart, I know how to do things.

00:39:45

But wait a minute, hold on a second, okay? Because what are you saying specifically?

00:39:49

I have a top 5 if you want. Top 5 things I hate about covering the Heat for Metal Ark Media as opposed to the team broadcast.

00:39:55

This is the first I'm learning, okay?

00:39:58

So I feel like you're angry at us when they let you go. Oh, don't you worry, we're giving— like, we're letting you do that, and I don't like how you're looking at this. Are you that in the tank for the Heat broadcast?

00:40:10

So you're like, we're the bad guys?

00:40:12

Brother, we had your back.

00:40:13

If you're covering the team now for Meadowlark, like, did you bring back some audio? You write something?

00:40:17

Bring back audio? No, I brought back my, my experience at the game, watching what was happening, talking to the team, talking to the coach, talking to the players. I was there. I was there in person.

00:40:26

Did you talk to Myron Gardner?

00:40:27

I didn't talk to Myron Gardner. Uh, no one was aware that, uh, Myron Gardner was the player that Anthony Edwards was specifically singling out, except for the fact that it was obvious to everyone that that was the player.

00:40:35

All right, wait, wait, wait.

00:40:36

Wait, wait, wait. I've got a number of different questions and we don't have time for all of them.

00:40:40

Okay.

00:40:40

Because I haven't even gotten to the part of Myron Gardner, of all people, pissing off Anthony Edwards and Anthony Edwards giving you very honest, dismissive trash talk of like, who is this person talking to me and why did I have to bury him in 45 points? He's not even playing or talking to Jeremy after the game. Let's hear that sound of Anthony Edwards, who again scored 45 points. What was he from 3? What, what were the final numbers?

00:41:08

9 for 13.

00:41:09

Uh, yes, he can get— how many 3s was Anthony Edwards shooting like 3 or 4 years ago? Was it like 6, 7, 8? Like, so he can get all those 3s whenever he wants. And here he is after the game saying that— well, he's not even saying that Myron Gardner pissed him off. Somebody pissed him off. You were intense out there.

00:41:30

I mean, is that more about you, like getting you going, or what?

00:41:35

What you mean?

00:41:36

Like, I don't know, I mean, you were just out there yelling. Nah, I mean, a player on the bench, um, was talking trash at one of the dead ball situations, um, and I think it kind of crunk me up because, uh, he was talking pretty crazy. And then when I started talking to him, he didn't really have too much more to say, and I don't really like that. Like, you're gonna talk, keep talking, don't get quiet. So I think that was pretty much the reason why I was super intense Uh, what are your thoughts there, Zazz? It can't be, it can't be Myron Gardner.

00:42:06

My thoughts are the same as they were last year when he was trash-talking Klay Thompson and then Caron Butler walked Myron Gardner over to Klay Thompson— I'm powering through— after the game to apologize, and Myron Gardner got into like a fight during a game last year.

00:42:20

Chris isn't gonna allow you to power through because there was the sound of a bubble popping.

00:42:24

Bowling lesson.

00:42:24

I don't know what it is that you just said.

00:42:28

I don't want to hear women talking about the WNBA.

00:42:31

I don't mean to laugh at that the way that Ernie Johnson irresponsibly laughed at LaMelo Ball's diaper comments. I didn't mean to laugh at that.

00:42:40

Great coverage, Jeremy.

00:42:41

I'm quoting someone.

00:42:42

Jeremy, that video must have been from you, right? That we just played?

00:42:45

The Anthony Edwards video? Did you produce that, Jeremy?

00:42:48

Yeah.

00:42:50

You did not produce that. You didn't talk to Myron Gardner either?

00:42:54

Nope.

00:42:54

So explain to people the backstory, because I am just now learning about your complaints that you're being treated and And I got something for Heat media relations, and by name, Tim Donovan, Rob Wilson. I'm about to get pissed off.

00:43:04

Should you just watch the game for free, Jim?

00:43:05

I don't know what he's about to say, but I'm about to get pissed off. I feel like I'm going to get pissed off if he's being treated less well when we run a media company across the street than whatever it is that he was working for before, you know, Bally's Channel 23 or whatever he was working for.

00:43:22

You got it.

00:43:22

Yeah.

00:43:23

Whatever, whatever the thing was that he was working for. that gets more and better amenities than whatever he's getting working for Meadowlark Media. How bad was your treatment at the Heat game yesterday?

00:43:33

Number 5, my seat for media coverage was in the stands.

00:43:38

Oh, oh, you're gonna piss me off.

00:43:41

I was sitting, I was sitting next to fans in a makeshift desk, sitting next to the 3rd member of the Five Reasons Sports Podcast.

00:43:48

Go ahead, go ahead, give me, give me— we're a legitimate media company. We got a Pulitzer Prize!

00:43:52

Number 4 that I don't like, uh, if I wear a suit, I look like an asshole. Number 3, I don't get to walk back for the, the secret Spo press conference with the broadcast anymore where I get to hear the things that he actually thinks. I just have to listen to what he says to the media when he's lying to them. Uh, number 2, I don't get to just walk on the court whenever I feel like it anymore. I used to do that. Now I don't get to do that. And number 1, they're 0-1 in the post-Jeremy Tashae era.

00:44:17

Stunning that you made number 1 about yourself. Um, I, I'm— I need to send you there with my father. I need I need something to happen here that allows you, when Myron Gardner steps in it, to be able to talk to Myron Gardner and not be wandering around with no access to people, just saying you're still a part of the Heat broadcast, but you work some— by some— you work for some fly-by-night media company where no one's giving you the proper respect.

00:44:43

The security guards still like me.

00:44:45

Don't undersell it. The entire list was about him.

00:44:47

Yeah, that's true. I was aghast.

00:44:49

Look, between getting up early for the show, watching hockey late at night, and everything else going on, I'm trying to do a better job of taking care of myself. Myself, but I'm not trying to take a whole bunch of different supplements every morning. That's why I started using IM8. IM8 Daily Ultimate Essentials combines 16 supplements and 90 ingredients supporting 9 major organ systems into one drink. Episode description
