Uh, just a reminder that, um, tickets for Busboys: The Movie, uh, with myself and David Spade, um, are on sale right now. Presale tickets, you can get them. Um, it's in theaters April 17th, but if you get tickets now, it'll show the movie theaters that we're going to sell them, uh, or that they are selling, and then we can expand to more theaters. So if you know when you're going to go and, um, and you can support, that would be great. And no pressure if you can't. Uh, again, the presale tickets are available. Uh, busboysmovie.com. Um, I'm excited. Thank you. Today's guest is a young lady from the state of Florida, and she's known for her viral clips online. She stopped by today with her mom Dawn and her sister Grace to have a chat and some snacks at the end. I had a blast, uh, with today's guest, Miss Hannah Strickland. You can move this if you need to.
I'm pretty loud, so yeah. Yeah.
Do you— do people say you're loud a lot, or do you feel—
no, I just am loud. I just know I'm loud because I am loud.
Yeah. Have you always been that way, you think, even since you were just a child? Um, I don't know. Do you remember a time when you weren't very loud?
I, I was probably always loud.
I respect that. I think I'm just feeling— I feel a little bit anxious today, I guess. Do you ever feel like that, Hannah? No, not— you don't? I'm just worried. I think I'm just not ready for Easter, and I know Easter's coming.
It's Easter.
I know, but sometimes it just feels like a lot with like the parties and the egg hunt, and you don't have to have a party. I guess I don't have to have a party, but I don't want to be— I don't want to be the guy that doesn't have one or whatever.
Yeah.
Do you like— do you— have you always thrown like a birthday party?
Yeah.
Would you ever not throw one, you think?
What about last year? You had a Yes Day.
Oh yeah, I had a Yes Day.
What is a Yes Day?
Uh, where dad or mom says yes to everything.
What? Yeah. For the whole day? No. What was the first thing you asked for?
Um, we went on Amazon and I got accessories for my Barbie doll.
Facts.
And I got like a big like American Girl doll thing, and it's like, it like, it comes with accessories and like a lot.
So you got everything you needed?
Yeah, pretty much.
And did you, did you get like a special type of meal or anything? Like what else were you allowed, like what were you allowed to ask for? Anything that even came into your head?
Yeah, pretty much.
What? What if you wanted like a pet or something like that? Or even like a—
No, my dad, uh, he doesn't want another pet in the house.
Okay. And have there been issues with the current pets?
No.
Nothing at all?
No.
Hmm. He just doesn't want another one. Do you think he's being a bit much?
Yes.
Okay. What's the pet you would go for? And be honest.
A cat.
Just a cat?
Yep.
You can get a cat in the woods.
But we have a cat.
Well, I want like a fatter cat.
Fatter than the one we have?
Yeah.
Yeah.
How fat is the cat you have? Just show me with your hands.
Uh, probably this big.
And how fat do you want?
Like the size of the chair.
Oh wow.
Yeah.
So you want a real big feline, huh? Yeah. And why? Do you just want to brush its hair? What do you even want to do with it?
It's a cat. You play with it.
Are you allowed to play with your cat outside or only inside?
Uh, well, the cat doesn't really like the outside, and I'd probably fall in the pool, so.
Oh, that's dangerous. Now take a gander at some of these fat cats that we pulled up here.
Yeah, that's the cat that I want.
Oh, so you're thinking something big like that, huh? That thing's thick.
Like a Garfield?
Yeah.
She loves Garfield.
You do?
Mm-hmm.
Now if you had to choose one of these fat, kind of fat ones or whatever, or some of them are overweight or some of them I think have glandular issues, but if you had to choose one of these larger cats.
The polka dot one with the white and the black.
Yes, please. That mixed one right there, that Ben Simmons right there, that's what I would get. That one's nice, huh? Yeah, you could even play Twister on that if you dyed the colors of it.
Yeah, maybe.
Okay, very fair. Um, I'm sitting here with Hannah Strickland and her mother Dawn Strickland. And who picked out your— who picked out your name?
Oh, my dad.
And did you have a say in her name or not, Dawn?
Absolutely you did. Yeah, we—
so it was going to be an awful name. I would have changed it if it was an awful name, but—
and I totally understand that. I want to say I agree with you, Hannah. What were you going to choose, Dawn?
It was actually going to be Hannah Beth.
Yeah, and I hate that, but we— yeah, I would have named a table that, just not— table. Yeah, yeah.
But, but what happened, Dawn?
But so what happened was Hannah Beth didn't strike us when she was born, and so we had a very close family member whose wife was Genevieve, and that's her middle name.
Yeah, come on, that's a way better name.
So she loves her middle name.
Yeah, 'cause Genevieve, it's almost like, does it feel like an alter ego sometimes, Hannah?
No, it's just French.
Oh, totally, then that makes total sense. If you could, say you go back in time to when you were a child.
Yeah.
Could you pick a different name for yourself?
And Violet.
Violet? Why?
I just like that name.
Yeah, I like it too. I like Violet. What would you pick, Dawn? What do you think your mother looks like if you had to give Mom a different name? Because Dawn is very pretty. Dawn means like the beginning of the day, I think, or the end of the day.
It's like the dawn of the rest of the earth, like, like The world is gonna like blow up.
Okay, that's a bit— Awesome. Yes, that's one way to— Yes, that is sometimes how it's looked. That is a very Mordorian kind of view of it. But yeah, what do you think her name would be if you had to give— You get to rename mom, right?
Water Bottle.
Water Bottle?
Mm-hmm.
Why?
It's just funny. I like that.
Oh, this is my mother Water Bottle? Yeah, huh? Yeah, yeah, that's pretty funny actually. I wonder what I would name my mom.
Probably, um, Jeffrey Epstein. Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, maybe.
I mean, she had 4 children, um, but I don't think that— but yeah, maybe so.
I think that's hilarious.
So I'm so grateful you ladies are here today. Do you all live together?
Well, yeah.
Yeah, we decided to.
And Hannah, is there a point where you're looking to actually get your own place, or have you thought about that at all, or is that not something you—
I want a mansion.
You do?
Yeah.
Okay.
And my sister said that she lived in India, um, and she had a golden toilet and golden steak and all that.
I actually don't recall that.
She lived in India?
Well, she says that, but I don't believe her.
So, but should you believe your sister? That's not a common— is that even—
I don't know. She said she had like golden horses and golden stallions.
I'm like, oh my gosh, maybe she met somebody online or something. Yeah, she, she probably looked it up, asked chat, um, and just created that in her head.
Yeah.
Yeah. What do you do to relax? What do you do to unwind?
Take a bath.
Okay. And are you somebody that stays in the bathtub for a long time?
Yes.
Oh, you're in the—
So is my sister. She never closed the curtain because she's scared of the Grimace. She's— that's not true, Grace. That's you.
Of Grimace from McDonald's?
Yes.
Really? How did that— bring up Grimace. Does he look—
Yeah, he looks like something. He's very dark and purple. Yeah.
So you're saying when you see Grimace, you see a not a positive thing. You see a negative thing.
There's a purple one. I didn't even know there's a green one, but whatever.
Well, that's a St. Patrick's one. That's supposed to be his cousin or whatever.
Oh, that's nice. And then Gris also made up another Grimace where it's black and it's like dark black. And if you go on the road, then he's going to kidnap you and eat you.
Oh, that's Blemis, I think.
Yeah. Really? And Doom. Doom Death.
And what did you say?
Doom Death.
Doom Death. It's where we are. No, look, I'm glad you're here from the future to tell us how it all ends.
That's good news for you.
Do you think Grimace wants good things for the world, or do you think he kind of has his own plans?
Probably to take over the world, blow the planet up, buy some bombs, more bombs. Yep.
But what about the fries? What about the plate? What about the kids' play area? You don't think he cares about all that? You don't think Grimace cares about the McDonald's kids' play area? You know he's from McDonald's?
Well, yeah. Oh, I don't think you'd make it at McDonald's. You'd probably add poison on the burgers.
True. You know, he actually got fired from McDonald's, I think.
Wow.
So not impressive. I'm not impressed anymore. Yeah, yeah. Um, so it's evil.
There's an evil Grimace.
Well, he's changed a lot. I know he went through some dark times, and I know I think some of his family members passed away.
Oh wow, that's fun.
It's a tough moment for people, you know.
That's really funny.
I mean, it's pretty crazy. I don't know if it's funny though. Maybe. I mean, I guess, I guess if there's like a way to like try to laugh about the pain of it Is that probably what you mean, Hannah?
Nah, just funny.
Oh yeah.
Because the Grimace doesn't exist. There's literally a person under it.
Some people say that. Bring it up. Does Grimace exist? Let's look it up. Yes, Grimace is a real character.
Oh. Told you.
He's fictional.
Mm-hmm.
He was introduced in 1971. So he's getting older. Yeah. That means he is— 55 years old. He looks good for his age. I will say that.
Yeah.
Will you say that? Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, not really.
Purple don't crack, huh? Hannah, what would you say? You're here today and thank you for coming to town. Have you been to Nashville before?
No.
And were you excited about coming to Nashville?
Yes. I like the hotel.
You do? Good. Is that something you enjoy is getting that first moment in the hotel? Yeah, that's fun, huh? What do you like the best about it? Like, what do you— what's kind of the— just the energy of it?
I like the showers. Yes, because the shower's big.
Oh, that's fun in there. Yeah, yeah, if you can have a good shower, that's pretty good. My friend one time rescued a pelican in a— there was a storm, there was like a big storm, and he rescued a freaking, uh, pelican, and we had to keep it in our shower for 3 days.
That sounds fun.
It was pretty fun. And we had to get fish and stuff and go in there and feed them and stuff. But it was scary while you were washing your hair with the shampoo because it would be scary if the suds got in your eyes and you were scared he was going to attack you or whatever.
Yeah. Yeah.
But, you know, you just try your best. Yeah.
I would just go swim in the pond with alligators.
You would? Mm-hmm. You do that type of behavior?
Mm-hmm.
You swim with alligators? Where?
In our pond.
What?
In our pond.
Dawn, is this true?
Yes.
To my knowledge, this is not true.
It is true.
This would be stamped off.
No, it is true.
Oh, I can't see behind the shades.
Because I admit—
Well, there's a pelican in the— I'll just put the pelican in the pond and goodbye.
And let the alligators get him?
Hannah.
My brothers would probably laugh too, but it's funny.
Hannah Genevieve.
Ruthless.
What have we done? How'd you become so tough-willed like that where you're just willing to face it all, you know?
We just throw in the pond like goodbye.
That's true. Yeah, it's one good way to get rid of a pet, I think.
Yeah, just throwing in lava. Put more lava, put on the pond, say goodbye. Meat for the alligators.
Yeah, I guess that's why.
Florida way. I mean, it's very much the Florida way.
They're building a lot of detention centers down there. They're doing a lot of crazy stuff to get rid of folks, so I wouldn't be surprised. Do you know a lot about animals or not?
Uh, not really. You feed them, you play with them, they sleep, they get fat, then that's fair. Yeah.
Is there an animal you would like to get that you think you're not allowed to have? Because I know Dad—
a hamster. My dad does not want a hamster.
What?
Yeah.
You don't want one of those little floor bears?
It's a hamster!
Some people call them floor bears. Look at them.
They're cute!
I know they're cute. Do you know I used to sell hamsters at my first job?
Well, you better give me one. I kind of want one of those. Those are cute.
I heard you can't even have one though.
Well, my dad would be surprised. I would actually get one.
You think we could sneak— maybe you could sneak one in? Yeah!
Yeah, because it could go on the airplane, um, for sure.
Put it in your pocket. I'd like that.
I just buy a cage from Amazon or something.
That's easy, but Dad might notice a cage comes in the mail. He's gonna be like, what goes in here?
Oh, I did not think of that. He would just probably throw it on the bottom.
You gotta think that through.
No, I would buy a cage, put the hamster in the cage, and then I'll take it with me on the airplane.
Okay.
Oh, then he can't do really anything about it once it comes home, so That's fair. Yeah.
Who runs the household at your house? Is it mom, dad?
Me.
You? Dawn, is this true or not? Yes.
In some regard, it probably is true. She's the fourth typical. Yeah, I know. That's embarrassing to admit.
Well, I pretty much clean the whole house. That one over there doesn't do anything.
She doesn't clean anything.
Yeah. Jonah. Sorry, Jonah, but he doesn't do anything either. What?
Jonah's not even here to defend himself.
Yeah, that's bad.
But do you think it's true that he doesn't do anything?
Yes.
If you went to court, what would the judge decide? That he does do things or he does not do anything?
Do not do anything.
Oh my God. Guilty. Guilty. And what should his sentence be? How many years in prison, you think?
Uh, one.
That's fair. Teach him some lessons, teach him how to do some stuff. What are the chores that you wish some of your family members would do more of to really help you out?
I'm the one who cooks.
Dawn!
I do, in fact, cook.
No, you do not. I cook the food.
Hannah, you cook the food? What are you cooking?
Pasta.
Every night? So you have 7 nights of pasta?
Yep. Every night.
So if you had a restaurant, it would be called Seven Nights of Pasta?
Mm-hmm.
And what would you serve?
Pasta. Every kind of pasta.
Hmm.
Pasta salad.
Pasta— shrimp pasta?
Bleh.
What?
Yeah.
That's a kind of pasta. You don't have it?
Well, not shrimp. Maybe like, I don't know, some kind of pasta.
What's another kind of pasta if you had to pick to use?
Pasta salad. Cheese pasta, macaroni and cheese. I love every pasta except shrimp.
Name one more pasta.
I don't know. I can't think of anything more.
You like— you like the pasta with the red sauce?
Yes.
Yes.
And I like salt.
Okay. Italian pasta.
Well, I like pasta where there's like salt on it and I put the— I put like this much salt.
Are you allowed to have that much?
Yeah, it's just salt.
Yeah, you're right. That's a good call. Um, take me into your family. So how many children do you have, Dawn?
4.
Thank you, Dawn. And were you excited about all of the kids? Was there ever a kid where you got it and you're like, ah, this one, you know, hit or miss?
No, I, I, I never thought that we would have 4 kids. That was kind of a surprise.
Um, where do you meet your husband?
Niceville. That's where— so I grew up in the Panhandle, and, um, I had gone away to college and, and I came back.
Oh, you moved?
Yes.
Oh, no wonder. I kept on saying you were from Alabama.
I told you I wasn't from Alabama.
Well, I did not trust that.
I told you.
Well, now I do.
I, I was not born in Alabama. I didn't ever even live in Alabama.
Well, now Grandma probably do.
That's correct.
I love the dirt roads.
Same.
I love it.
I just wanna roll around in it.
I do too.
No, you don't.
No, I wanna walk on it though. So we met at community college.
Community college is good. A lot of people go.
I mean, it's good.
Yeah.
And we went.
And you guys met there.
We did, yes.
And y'all fell in love.
We did fast. So we met. Yeah.
Grace is a high school dropout. I mean, she dropped out of school.
She didn't drop out. She's—
Yes, she did, Mom.
Was she doing drugs?
No, it's online, Han.
Well, that's good then. So she's making a lot of good choices. Why did she quit school?
She didn't feel like— She's a lazy bum.
I wouldn't—
That's not my choice of words.
Uh, it is mine. It's my words.
Hey, she's ruthless. Hannah is the boss. Is she always ruthless like this?
Yes.
So you and your husband's name is Travis. You and Travis, um, get together. Y'all get married first.
We met and we were engaged 2 months later. 2 months later.
Whoa. And then that's fast love.
It was super fast. And I mean, it sounds crazy now, but at the time it didn't feel crazy.
And then we were called fast love, Dawn.
Yeah.
And it's okay.
Yeah, I guess it is, because we're here. We are like 26 years later.
Yeah, you made the greatest choice, I think.
I think so. Like, we didn't have all the junk in our head at that point, you know what I mean? Like, just world, just stress.
Um, I really— so for my birthday, can you get me like some Calico Critters?
Yeah, maybe we could chat about it later. Yeah, closer to your birthday.
Yeah, it's coming up though.
I'm going to be 10.
You are?
Mhm.
Yeah, in April?
May. May.
Okay. It's exciting.
May 20— wait, yep, you know, May 28th, May 2016.
Okay, yeah. And so you— when do you meet your first child, or when do you have your first child?
Oh, I was like, sadly it was Jonah.
So my first one— and what's funny is they're best friends. I don't know why she's doing this because they're literally best friends. So he is, uh, 23, so he was born in 2003.
Oh my—
oh wow, y'all.
Oh wow, y'all, the interwebs. Y'all literally look like a cowboy.
So is this old family?
Yeah, that is a very old—
that was me, uh, and Mommy's hands. Where? And then Grace in that pink dress.
Maybe, maybe something within the—
Grace, what's with the hair?
Within the decade.
Uh, I looked pretty good.
Let's see, zoom in on that baby, huh?
Oh yes, just not on the baby's mother.
Oh, it's a beautiful family there. And who is the guy on the left? Is that Tyler Childers?
That is my brother Joel.
Okay, and how is he doing?
Um, he's working on being—
he's a little turn bucket, or that.
Uh, he's working hard.
Don't tell us the truth because it doesn't sound like she's telling us the truth.
No, he is a turn bucket.
You're telling us the truth. Is Dawn telling us the truth?
Yes.
She said he's doing great.
He's— well, he is, but he's a little turnbuckle.
Oh, you're right. Okay, so both things can be true.
Yes.
Okay, so how is he doing?
He's doing great. He is working. He's 21 now. I think in that—
why did you put me in that dress?
I apologize.
No, that is a good question. Let's stop for a second and look at this kid's dress, because first of all, You look like a little something that would— like a little Easter present.
Yeah, yeah.
And you were an Easter present because you're— isn't your birthday right around Easter?
Technically Memorial Day.
Yeah, I didn't know Memorial Day even existed.
Hey, it's not Easter.
And then my brother Jonah.
Yeah, let's take us in it. So take us into the next child. So you get one child and you guys are digging it and you're like, let's get another child.
So Jonah is like the one at the top.
They're gonna love that you guys pull up this photo.
And how's he doing today? Be honest with us.
Um, he's fun. He plays video games, never wants to bathe the dog, never wants to brush the dog, never wants to mow the lawn. That's a lot. Yeah, he never does anything.
He's also working on being an engineer, so he's pretty bright.
Sadly, doesn't wanna move. He doesn't really wanna move out.
Doesn't wanna move out?
I'm trying to steal one of their rooms.
I see, so you have a plan in all of this. You wanna get rid of one of these people, huh?
Well, I wanna get rid of Joel, kind of thing.
Okay.
'Cause he has the biggest room. He's a turd bucket. And yeah.
And we've already determined that Joel is dealing with some bucket issues or whatever, first.
Have you never heard of that word, butt munch?
Obviously Joel is doing his thing, but here's my question. Do you have your own room, Hannah?
Uh, no, I have to— I have to live with Mom and my dad, the one that snores, and I can barely even sleep.
And why don't you have your own room?
Um, we didn't buy a bigger house, and it's a black house.
It's brown.
Brown, black, poopy brown. I'm a little—
she does hate the color of the house and her relationship.
It's, it's horrible.
And so, um, so you, you get to the third— who's the third child?
Um, Grace. Yeah, Grace.
Grace.
Okay. Actually, no, it was me. Yeah, it was me.
It was Gracie and then me.
It was me.
Okay, well, let's, let's just get to the— let's get to the magic then. When was Hannah born?
2016.
2016. Okay. And Hannah has— you have some— you have like a kind of like a thing, it's called stenosis?
Yeah.
And what is it? Because I've heard of it, but I haven't really heard a lot. I don't know a lot about it.
Well, Mom, how about you tell them?
Do you want me to tell that part? Yeah. Okay, so technically it's a lysosomal storage disorder.
And how do we say it?
Cystinosis.
Cystinosis.
Yep, you were You did very good. We've talked to doctors before and they mispronounce it, so you did better than they did. But essentially cysteine, which is an amino acid, doesn't get transported through the cells correctly. And so they accumulate on all of the major organs. So a lot of times people think, oh, it's just a kidney disease or it's just this. It affects all of the major organs. So like my son has had, 2 kidney transplants.
Um, who, Joel or Jonah?
Joel.
Joel.
Okay. Yeah, he's, he's had 2 kidney transplants in his teenage years.
He's remarkable. And now he's working hard to be an EMT, which is—
he has always been a little butt munch. Yeah, I—
what? Give him some credit.
The guy deserves a lot of credit.
7th kidney.
My sister had a liver transplant when we were little.
Oh wow.
And so I know what it's like to be like around that sibling.
Yeah, yeah.
And just like what it's like, and it's kind of scary sometimes as a sibling because You don't exactly know what's going on, even though you get some information, it can be kind of—
But you still can only process so much at that age.
Yeah, you're a kid and it can be kind of alarming. And sometimes it was, I felt like we couldn't play with my sister because she would have like a lot of scars and stuff. And so that was kind of, that was different. So, but it was interesting, but yeah, she had a liver transplant and she's doing great. That's awesome. How does cystinosis kind of affect you like on a daily basis? Do you even feel it when you get up in the morning, Hannah?
No.
You don't even know about it.
No, I just drink water, then I go eat, eat, sleep, eat, drink, be fabulous.
Yeah, happy Fourth of July. And so, um, what is it? How does it— how do you see that it affects her mom anyways?
You know, life for us is— I love the fact that she doesn't notice a lot. It means that maybe, you know, maybe as a family we might be doing something Right.
What about posting or something?
No, no.
Because I take a shower.
Yeah.
Eat, sleep, watch TV, play, drink.
Yeah.
I mean, and then I go back to sleep.
Oh, do you?
Yeah.
She finished it up with some sleep, huh? Do you dream at night or no?
No.
Hannah, don't lie.
I'm not. Trust me.
You talk in your sleep, Hannah.
Oh yeah.
Who are you talking to?
I don't know.
I mean, she just doesn't stop talking. It's just like anybody.
I always just talk all the time.
Oh, well, that's good. I'm glad you talk. People like hearing you talk. It's entertaining and it's fun.
It is.
What are some things about cystinosis that people don't know, just in general?
Gosh, I don't think they know a lot. It's very rare. You're talking like—
They're like, "How old are you?" I'm like, "Nine." And they're like, "I thought you were four or one or two or three." Yeah. I don't look that short.
Yeah, they thought you were 1.
Well, probably not 1, but like at least 3 or 4.
The lady the other day in Ulta, she thought you were what? I think— did she say 4?
Yeah, that's bonkers.
I don't even look— no, like, I feel that I'm tall, but I guess I'm not.
News flash, we might not be.
Story of my life. We all want to be that tall bad girl, you know? Or, I mean, we all want to be like that one.
Is like a giant.
Yeah, well, I'll tell you this, she had a lot of time to grow when she wasn't at school.
Yeah, you know, she's been focusing on growth.
And her friend Bella, she's like this, almost the size of me, just like 1 foot taller.
That's nothing. You could catch up in like 2 good night's sleeps. 1 foot, you could grow easily that much.
I don't think so.

Is there any unique things that Hannah does because of cystinosis that it's a part of her life?
Is there any unique things that people have to kind of do? My sister has to take sort of organ rejection medication.
Yeah.
So that, 'cause she got a transplant. I know she didn't get one, but I'm just saying sometimes when you have certain things that are part of your life, you have certain things you have to do.
And that, I mean, obviously, yeah.
Well, I literally do the same thing every day. Eat, sleep, drink, watch TV, play. Yeah.
Yeah.
And guess what the last one is?
A shower.
Nope, one more.
Sleep.
Yeah, welcome back.
That, that's true for her too. So she does, she has a G-tube.
Oh, I'm doing an impersonation. Guess who it is, Hannah?
That's definitely my dad. Yeah, let's go!
This is gonna—
he nailed it.
Yeah.
Um, so because it's like— wait, Mom, what does he does when he's sleeping? Who? Dad.
Daddy? I mean, he definitely snores.
Yeah, yeah. And then he like wakes up, goes back to sleep.
Yep. That's what happens when you get older. You don't ever sleep through the night.
Well, I always do. I never snore. And I don't— like, I never snore. That one does. That one sleeps with her mouth gaped open.
What kind of world are you living in?
I No idea. Those people are crazy.
Tell me about it. I can barely even believe that you're able to survive over there, Hannah, around these people.
Yeah, I need to move. I'm like, I need my own room. And my sister stole the color of my room.
What?
She stole my bed from my old room. I had like the perfect— in the old house, in our old house, I had my own room and my own playroom.
That you never used.
I did use that. You never let me sleep in there.
Why not?
I literally wanted to sleep in there.
Were there mice in there? No, we had a lot of mice in our house when I was a kid.
I've always wanted a rat or a mouse. I've always wanted a mouse.
Yeah, she's obsessed with Ratatouille, so she would— that'd be cool.
They're so cute.
Yeah, well, they're cute. I'll tell you this, Ratatouille, first of all, the movie, it's about 20 minutes too long. I will say that.
Oh, she would disagree. Yeah, vehemently disagree, actually.
Well, I like the part where they cook. Yeah, it's pretty much the whole thing.
Oh yeah, I like it. I mean, I like it, but I'm just at a certain point, I'm like, hurry it up, we get it. There's like a little bit extra on there for me that's just a little bit too much.
I like Colette.
Yes, let's bring up the characters.
So Colette is the girl with the, like, the purple hair.
There she is. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I like Ratatouille. I'll ask you this, um, just— I'm gonna ask Dawn something real quick. Is it okay if I ask Dawn something?
Yes.
Thank you. Um, yeah, are there any special things that someone has to do that's a part of their life?
Um, before the— before there might ever be a transplant, there's still just a lot of medications. So she has a G-tube to make things easier. Um, eye drops, meds. Um, they're harsh. They, they're, they hurt her stomach. They, you know, and obviously since it affects your kidneys first, it obviously, it stunts your growth. Um, you can take growth hormone lately. We've kind of, uh, we haven't, yeah, I'm never doing that. We haven't started that yet.
We did that with my son, but But that's a choice you have to make, I guess, as a parent for a child. Yeah, that's kind of interesting.
It's hard because you always worry, you know.
All right, next subject.
What's something you admire about each one of your children, Dawn? How about that? Let's get the truth here.
I'm the favorite. She tells everybody that too, because I am the favorite.
Is that the truth though?
Yes.
What? Why?
Cause I'm just a better child. Huh? Though that one doesn't clean.
Yeah.
None of our kids clean here. Joel never cleans the dishwasher, never does anything. I'm like, huh?
Yeah.
Golly Moses.
And what are the chores you like to do the most then?
Yeah. Let's do that.
Um, wash dishes. Vacuum. Clean the counters. And that's pretty much all I do.
Okay.
Clean my— make my bed and stuff.
Okay.
Yeah.
I respect that.
And I cook too, so.
Do you?
Yep.
What's one of your favorite things to cook?
Chicken noodle soup, biscuits, pasta.
How about our pizzas that you make?
Oh yeah, pizza, cheesy bread.
I like cheesy bread. They had cheesy bread. Yeah.
Yeah, I make my own.
We got a new fire— what are those like?
Like the pizza oven?
The pizza oven.
Those are good.
Yeah.
Those are really good.
Just for the record, we don't even order pizza anymore. It's amazing.
Yeah, it's really good, dude.
When people order pizza, I'm like, what are you doing? You could make this in your yard in a minute.
Yeah, absolutely.
Are you out of your mind? I even will— if my neighbors order pizza, if I see a pizza, I'll go out and blow like a big horn at their house and I say, what are you doing?
Well, maybe they don't have an oven or something.
Yeah, but just get a pan and even put just like a lighter or a candle under it. You can do that so easily now. Yeah, I see. Like, you kind of like— it feels like you're growing up kind of fast. Do you ever feel like that, Mom? Do you feel like she's—
she's going older?
Not me, Hannah. That wasn't directed at me. Yeah, about me.
Mom's doing great. Yeah, but Hannah's growing up so fast. Do you feel sometimes, Hannah, like you're just growing up too fast?
No.
You think you're growing up at the right speed?
Yep.
What do you see like another line of work? Like what's a real line of work that you want to get into one day? Like when you're driving down the road and you see a guy working in construction, or you see a woman like fetching water from a well or milking an animal or something.
Oh, that one wants to have a farm. I don't know why.
Well, she has a baking channel, so she likes to bake, so she could probably use ingredients.
Yeah.
Do you like ingredients?
Like stuff to put in a cake?
Yes.
Uh, yeah, yeah, you have to have those for like baking.
Yeah, I like this. I like ingredients. I've always liked them.
Yeah.
Um, but what's that line of work you see yourself getting into when you're driving?
A chef.
A chef. Okay. And would your, your restaurant— obviously we know it's called 7 Days of Pasta— will there ever be a day where you'll have one other item that will be different, like a special?
Nope. Well, that's pickle pasta.
Pickle pasta.
Pickle balls. I like pickles, but like not on pasta. But like if someone wants like something like sour and like they can have that, we'll do it.
I like that. Do you have bread? Do you have any appetizers even?
Yeah.
What are some of the appetizers you're gonna have?
Like maybe some shrimp and bread and oil.
I like that.
Yeah, my favorite food is pasta. I like ravioli.
I love ravioli.
I also love Olive Garden.
You do? Yeah. What's your favorite thing about it?
Uh, the Alfredo and the breadsticks.
Yeah, breadsticks are good.
Yeah.
God, sometimes I just want to put one in my mouth and have somebody come up and just hit it right down my face with a hammer.
My dream is like to put like my mouth under like the frozen yogurt machine and just like eat it.
Yes, girl. Okay, but here's what I've heard. My friend's done that and he— your face gets so cold because that thing's very cold.
Yeah.
You think you could handle it?
Yeah, I love cold.
Just wear earmuffs.
Yeah.
Um, one of your— I saw a video of this. One thing I learned about you, I saw a video of you. It was at a Christmas shop and that was like a busy video that you guys had. What happened there? Take me behind the scenes of some of this video. Let me see it really quick again. What age was this when you were working, Hannah? I know this is one of your early films.
Sorry, I'm wasting a lot of your money, but I'm gonna have to get a nutcracker and an ornament. I want it here. Mom, this is the best tree I ever saw in my—
I love this store. What is this?
Macy's.
That's Macy's? I love Macy's. I love places— Michaels— where you can get crafts.
Oh, I love Michaels. We actually got a deal with Michaels.
You do? Yeah, I love that. What are you gonna make over there?
We pretty much got like every deal in the world. Dang, we haven't got Apple.
You haven't got Apple?
No, we do.
You got Apple?
No, we got like a, like a, a computer, like a pink computer, and then we also got like, um, like AirPods. Pretty much everything else for me in that box.
Well, I mean, it was supposed to be—
No, no.
As it should have been.
No.
What are some ways— obviously mom is having trouble parenting when it comes to you. Is that safe to say, you think?
Uh, she doesn't have any trouble.
She does a good job?
Maybe.
Anna, if you were a parent, how would— what kind of— what things would you do differently, you think, than mom?
Well, if they would scream, then I'll just put them up in the bathroom.
Yep.
And I'd lock the door.
Yeah, let me say, every parent does. It's not legal, but—
Like, kind of like a dog.
Well, people do it, you know? People do it a lot. Um, do you think you would teach your— like, what's like something, like a thing you would try to instill in your kids so they would know?
I would just put them in the bedroom at like a, like a, like a ginormous wall in the bedroom, and then like lock the doors. Um, yeah, they can never get out. They can never get out until they stop screaming.
Okay, so that's only if they scream, cry, do anything. Well, what, what would be the things that you would do if they were good, or to like help them be a good person? Yeah, what would you do?
Oh, they can just move out, really?
Yeah, look, if they want that kind of life, they can hit the road and figure it out.
Exactly.
We keeping it 100 over here. Hannah, you know, people are wondering, I think a lot of people are like, what is she gonna do next? Is she gonna start a cartoon? Is she gonna come out?
Oh, definitely not a cartoon. I hate cartoons.
Okay.
That's out.
So people quit wondering that.
Yeah.
Is she gonna come out with her own, like, cookware? Is she gonna come out with—
Yeah.
Um, like maybe a special spatula?
Well, I'm gonna— um, well, I want my, like, my own cook show.
Okay.
Like, you know, those, like, uh, those cook shows where they have to, like, get the ingredients, hurry up and cook? Kind of like those. Like, I want to cook with, like, Bobby Flay and, like, their competition.
Do you think Bobby Flay is a good chef? Yeah, you do? Bring up Bobby Flay. His daughter's really She's a newscaster. Anyway, I'm lonesome. I don't know why I said that. Let's keep going. Bobby Flay, huh? And who else is on your chef list?
Oh, the Nick?
Yeah, Nick Giovanni.
What is it about him and some of his recipes or what is it?
He cooks really good pasta. I watch him all the time.
You do?
What's the big thing about the big Parmesan wheel?
So it's like a big Parmesan wheel. He like carves the inside and then he like grabs some of the— Yeah, like there.
Let's see it. Can we see this in action? I'm just— I'm very—
It's really good. I've always wanted to try that.
Well, I'm curious about it. That's all Parmesan?
Yeah, the whole wheel.
What is on the outside?
Cheese, of course.
That's the rind.
Yeah. So, right. Mm-hmm.
Have you ever asked for like, uh, what's something—
I've always wanted that big—
she wants the whole wheel.
Yeah, because like I've always wanted to make that recipe.
And how much cheese do you need for that?
Like the whole wheel?
Yeah.
I mean, look at this guy right here. Is he carving a pumpkin? What is this?
It's cheese. So he's trying to like open it and Yeah.
Honestly, Hannah, what's the most amount of cheese you think someone should be able to have?
Um, that much right there.
Do you think there should be a limit on how much cheese someone can have?
They can have as much as they like. Because that's like really good cheese and it makes like really good like, like Alfredo pasta. Like you just have to add like milk and then that cheese and then melt it. Like cook it, of course. And then, uh, you put the pasta in the pot and the butter and the, and the Alfredo sauce. And then once you got your pasta in the thing and the cheese, then you dump the Alfredo sauce in the, the cheese, like, like in the big circle, the wheel, the big wheel of cheese. And then you got like, wait, like, uh, he carved it in the inside and then he like, you put the pasta in.
Okay, we're gonna need you to step out of the vehicle now. Okay, that's all I'm saying is, um, yeah, look, yeah, he is. Let me see one more time. Let me see that. It's like a honeycomb of cheese.
Yeah, he's gonna— yeah, he's putting the pasta in there in the cheese. Yes. Oh, that's so good.
God, that looks so good.
I've always wanted that.
Yeah, I just want some of that. God, it's almost like the cheese is like just taking a bath or something in there.
Would you take a bath in cheese?
Yes.
Yeah, like, hey mom, what do you mean?
I would eat it.
Um, yeah, yeah, eat, rest your head on it. Yeah, that'd be good if you had a whole bed made out of cheese.
Yeah.
What kind of cheese are we talking?
Uh, that cheese.
Parmesan.
Okay, Parmigiano-Reggiano. Is that what that is?
I'm pretty sure. I don't know.
I think so.
Okay, I respect that. Um, do you have a favorite holiday, kind of?
Christmas.
It is? And what about it?
But I hate the Grinch. Why? He's weird, and I don't like how he's green, and he's—
and he steals things from the kids. Yeah, which is not cool.
Yeah.
Have you ever stolen anything?
No. Well, I was stealing things from my sister, my brother, but But they deserved it. Yeah.
Where do you hide everything that you steal?
Why would I tell you?
Yeah, good call. Look, and that's how they try to trap you. They try to get the answers out of you. You have to be careful.
Yeah, you know, because one time I stole my sister's little, uh, mini unicorns, and I've been trying to get those for years, and I actually got them. Well, I've always got them, and then I put them in my fridge, but she finally found them. Now I'm gonna try to steal them again.
Yeah, she has a play kitchen that she— everybody knows if they're missing something, they go straight to her play kitchen because she hides everything.
Well, if they keep on looking there, then I'll move them and I'll put them somewhere different.
I get it.
Well, I have a new hiding spot.
You don't move anything.
I get it.
I will now.
Have you ever considered burying something in the yard?
Well, then I'll literally never find it again.
Do you think you'd forget?
Uh, yeah, I forget all the time.
You do?
I forget what I'm gonna say or—
Um, you've been traveling a lot, right? And have you, um, what's a place you've been that you really did not enjoy very much? Um, and you can be honest with us.
I literally don't even know. I like every place that I've been to.
You do?
Yeah.
You just didn't—
well, I didn't like the place where we went to New York where like, uh, there's like people like sleeping on the road and stuff, and I on the sidewalk, people camping out and stuff. Yeah, it was kind of weird. Yeah, I'm just like, get a job. I'm like, who are you?
Yeah, there's certain—
that's for you.
There's certain ways to look at it, and I think you have to figure all that out. You have to factor that in. Um, what's some— what's something you and Hannah love to do together?
We like to play Uno.
Oh, I like Uno.
We like to cook.
I mean, obviously not a great cook.
Sometimes we, Mom, what do we eat together?
Everything? What do you mean?
Well, we pretty much eat, yeah, eat everything.
Yeah.
Well, you eat everything. Well, you eat everything.
Yeah.
Thanks.
Yeah.
Moms have to taste everything before their kids can make sure it's safe.
It's like a quality issue.
It's important.
Making sure they're not like poisoning, you know?
It's pretty important.
Yeah, because you want to eat it. There's no poison in the food that you make.
You never know. What's the worst food you've ever had, you think?
I knew you're gonna say Mexican food and Indian food.
Yep. What was it about them?
Well, I don't like to— I don't like— I just don't like— look, I actually do like the tacos and I like the, like, the guacamole and stuff. Yeah, but like, I don't, I don't like anything else.
The tacos in the— what is it?
Tacos and guacamole.
Yes.
But my dad says he's gonna eat a banana and avocado in the morning.
Why?
I don't know, he's like, "Honey, did you get the banana and avocado?" He was going on a diet, right? Yeah.
Yeah.
And is dad, um, does dad like to diet? Is he like to— what does dad like to do for fun?
Uh, he likes to fix his car, but instead of fixing the car, he likes to break the car instead. Instead of fixing it.
Yeah, that's that. That's that, you know. What's a regular day at school like, Hannah? Are you still going to school?
Uh, yeah, same from the high school drop out like Grace.
Is that true, Grace?
Yes, she, she literally dropped out of school.
It's okay, Grace. My— a lot of my family is not even— or they're not all the way done yet. That's how we say Um, do you have some, like, some close friends at school? What's it like over there?
Well, I actually do homeschooling.
You do?
Yeah.
And who's your teacher?
Uh, her name is Miss Sarah the Evil Queen.
She calls her teacher the Evil Queen. Yes, it's true, because she is evil.
She's forcing me to do homework.
But that's her job.
She's a teacher, so she's getting paid to do this.
You're right. Huh. Why do we pay people to do pure evil?
Yeah.
I agree. Great question.
Huh?
It's a great question.
Look, I just want to talk.
Um, Dawn, you stay super busy.
No.
I knew that was coming too.
She sits down all the time. She does nothing.
She has to be doing something.
She's not.
She's not?
Dawn, tell us the truth.
She always cleans up my toys.
She cleans them up.
Yeah, she cleans my toys. No, only my toys though. Oh, only the toys.
I only clean the toys.
Mommy the evil queen.
Well, what are some things that, uh, what are some things though that you're working on like behind the scenes right now? Like what are some stuff that people don't know that's going on?
Yeah, well, because of all of this, and I realized we had an opportunity to have a little bit of a platform and a little bit of a voice, I always wanted to start our own foundation, something that would leave a legacy for the kids and, um, that would help other families like ours. So that's what we've been working on and we just launched it yesterday. We're super excited about what we—
oh, Mom, are you gonna give him the present?
Congratulations.
Yes.
This is Strickland Hope Foundation.
Thank you. Yeah. So we're excited. You know, when we were going through, uh, it took almost 2 years to find out with my son cuz they had the same condition. So it took almost 2 years. Oddly enough, it, somebody, the driver said, um, have y'all been in Nashville before? And I was like, I couldn't think about it. I think I blocked it out. My son got his diagnosis at Vanderbilt.
Wow.
So we didn't know what was wrong with him and we just kept going and going and going.
But mom, so remember when I clogged up the shower in the hotel?
Yeah, she flooded the whole bathroom today.
Oh. Yeah, 'cause I really wanted a bath, but they didn't have a bath. So I just, you know, made it into a bath.
I think you have to do that sometimes. So why we started the Trickle and Hope Foundation. So both— so your son had this, um, Joel.
Joel with the red hair. Yep.
So Joel had cystinosis.
He still does.
He still does. And he's obviously a turd muncher. Whatever.
What is he, uh, Buckethead?
Turd Bucket.
Yeah, Turd Bucket.
Sorry. Yeah. Anyway, we're back to him. And sorry, Joel, I know you're not here to defend yourself, but that's what happens when you send your siblings out.
Yeah.
And you don't go with them, bro. You face the wrath. But here's my question is, um, so you didn't even know— it was hard to know what the di— it was hard to get diagnosed?
Absolutely.
What'd you think was going on?
Well, we knew it was serious. Um, he was treated for the wrong condition for 7 months at a different children's hospital. Um, but so we had— yeah, pretty much that's what they— they literally— I mean, she laughs about it, but like they just kept saying, um, it was a working diagnosis. So anyway, when— long story short, when we found out what it was I mean, we went through a lot and it, and it's, it's challenging. I mean, I suppose you would understand some of that too. And I remember one of the first things when, when he faced his first transplant, um, they, one of the first things they said were, you know, like, how are you gonna pay for this? Are you gonna start a GoFundMe? And that was like the biggest slap in the face. Like, so now I've gotta go beg for money to make sure that my kid can have a transplant. Um, and we had excellent insurance. Listen, long story short, I just vowed that no other family— dealing with a chronic condition is enough. Yeah, that's enough. And that's enough stress and that's enough stress on a relationship, on the family dynamics, on the siblings.
So that's my mission. I just, I want to be there to help in tangible ways, whether it be financial, whether they need medical equipment, whether they need therapy services, counseling, if If the mother and father needs counseling to deal with this new diagnosis, they should be able to have that. If a family is functioning and functioning well and they are whole and they are taken care of, then they can be good caregivers. And that's the most important thing is making sure that each member of the family is taken care of.
Yeah, it's a lot. I mean, I remember I would go to like Ronald McDonald House and stay over there. Over the years I've gone there and just like done like, just like, like, uh, you can go there and like kind of volunteer to hang out and sometimes they'll accept you to be over there. But just seeing what families do.
Yes.
Right. And what it's like to have a family be around something that, um, that happens that is like a surprise to your family, a medical surprise. Right. Um, and so the foundation will help support people that need these extracurriculars kind of.
Yes, absolutely. Um, we're still working out everything as far as what we will help out with. But I've been in this, we've lived with this for long enough. I know firsthand and I also know, you know, from having friends in our little community, often they need help with paying bills. You know, lots of times the spouse now needs to stay home and take care of the child. So you lose that second income. What does that look like? I wanna help provide, if you need to go, to community college or wherever and get—
Oh, I saved my jacket. Okay.
Yeah, that's great. And get training or certificate so that you can work from home and now make money from home. Whatever it is.
Again, why are you making money?
Yeah.
Not, not me.
Well, yeah, because we're not seeing any of it. Right?
Yeah.
So just help them in any way possible. You know, lots of times there's programs for copays and things like that, but there are so many gaps. Do you need help, babe? She— you want to give it to Gracie?
Grace, Grace, don't throw it. Here, help out please. Come on, half—
we know you've taken off of school, but I know.
High school dropout.
So we're still figuring out exactly how the Hope Foundation will help, but we know it's going to help, um, uh, families in ways that they're affected that they may not even see coming and ways that you guys have had experience with.
Yes, because we have had— listen, it's embarrassing. We've had to ask for money before. We've had to borrow money. It's embarrassing, it's degrading, it's stressful. And the thing about it is you're already concerned. You're a parent who's going through a lot, whether it's new or whether you've been walking this road for a few years, you know, you're tired. You often go without sleep. You're sleep deprived and you don't make good decisions when you're sleep deprived.
So my mom said if I did good on this show, that I could also get like a 3DS. A 3DS is like, it's like an old game. No, it's like an old Nintendo Switch that I've also really wanted for a long time. And my brother has one.
Okay.
And it's really cool. So I've always wanted one of those and hopefully I get one of those. So.
You're just making sure she remembers that.
She's like, let me call you out in front of him. I think was that. Yeah. I really like that.
You should be an attorney, I think.
Yeah.
Okay. So just so we know, and it's called the Strickland Hope Foundation.
Strickland Hope Foundation.
Strickland Hope Foundation. And we're just getting it started.
Yep.
Well, keep us posted so we can help donate at some point.
Yeah.
I hope you'll keep us posted.
Mom, can you give him a present?
You guys got a present for me?
Yes, I do. I will. I'll give him a present whenever he thinks it's appropriate.
What is something that you really admire about each person in your family?
So that one—
Something you love.
Make it real.
Yeah, something real that you love about each one.
Okay, so Jonah actually plays with me.
Okay, so you like that Jonah plays with you?
That's pretty much all.
Each one you have to do.
All right, Joel, what's something you love about Joel?
Um, I guess he makes fun of me.
Does he like to laugh?
He likes to laugh at me.
He is?
He's extremely funny.
So he makes you laugh?
No.
No.
Yes.
No. He makes you laugh.
He never makes you laugh?
No!
Never?
Never! Ever!
Well, here's one of the questions I have, Hannah, is that there's a lot of rumors, like a lot of influencers and people in the media and personalities and stuff like someone like you are kind of like, are going to, they're sending them to outer space. They sent Katy Perry to outer space. Last one, last year.
Do you believe that?
I don't, but for the sake of this question, for the sake of this question, she did not go there. You think she lied?
Yes, outer space lied.
Yeah, outer space lied. You're right. But here's the question is, if they set you up nice, they give you a nice first-class seat, you're headed outer space, would you go to outer space?
Yeah. Why? I just don't want to. I want to stay at home.
You could miss something important in outer space.
So? I don't care about outer space. Eh.
What are you going to do at home?
Eat, sleep.
We've been over this.
Oh yeah. It's a big fact. You're right. Who's your best friend? Let's get that out of here, Hannah. Who's your best friend?
Naya.
And where's she at today?
Um, I think she's At home writing a book about me. Well, me and my sister.
Very fair. I heard you almost got in trouble for a crime. Is that true? At some point?
About what?
That's just what I heard, that there was a small crime or something you almost got in trouble for.
What crime?
Have you ever done a crime?
Well, well, maybe I almost took a candy bar out of the store without paying.
But, but hey, I mean, I almost sneaked out, but you didn't, right? But you didn't, huh?
No, Mom accidentally caught me.
That's what I like. I like that. I like that honesty too. Hannah, is there anything that you want to talk about today that you feel like is important and that's been on your mind?
No, I think about food.
You do? Yeah, all day.
Yeah.
Well, take me— just give me like a favorite. What's like an appetizer that you absolutely love? Oysters?
What?
Have you had oysters?
Yes, and they're gross. I like oyster soup, but—
You like oyster soup? I've never even had that.
Well, clam chowder soup.
Oh yeah, that's what you like.
I like clam chowders.
Okay, well then this is it then. Before we get to my birthday cake, if you're on a desert island, you only get one meal. What is Olive Garden?
It would be Olive Garden.
That's like a whole restaurant.
It'd be Olive Garden on a desert island?
Yep.
You think they're gonna have an Olive Garden there?
Well, I would eat if they did have it there.
Yeah, I feel you. Lee Cronin's The Mummy. What's up? Sie war 8 Jahre lang verschwunden. Kommt eine neue Vision des Grauens. Hey Schmetterling, hier sind Mom und Dad. Was passierte mit Katie? Ich will nur meine Tochter zurück. Lee Cronin's The Mummy. Ab 16. April nur im Kino. Honestly, I do feel you. I would eat if they had it there too. In the past in my life, I didn't do a good job probably investing financially. Part of it was I didn't know much about investing, and I didn't want to learn. I didn't want to ask questions. I would have chocolate vanilla cake.
That's fair.
Actually, a snow cone. Well, if I'm freezing.
If you're freezing, you'd have a snow cone?
Well, I would have, um, Chocolate cake with a vanilla layer and, um, milk.
I like that. Yeah. If you could meet Dolly Parton, what's one thing that you would say to her?
Um, I have no idea, honestly. So I really don't know.
What's your favorite song from Dolly that you love that always comes up on the— when we watch the videos?
Have you heard that song, I Will Always Love You? That one?
No.
Have you heard 9 to 5?
Yeah.
That's no way to learn a living.
How do you sing that song?
How do you— I don't know. Working 9 to 5.
Welcome to Thanksgiving. Have you heard that song?
No.
You haven't?
Well, I have. Yeah.
She hasn't heard it that way.
What about Thanksgiving? You like it or not?
I do. It's about— I love the food.
That's her favorite holiday other than Christmas.
It is.
Yeah.
What's your favorite bird to eat?
Bird?
Yeah. What's your favorite kind of bird to eat, man?
Bird. Chicken? Turkey? Oh, I didn't know that was bird.
What'd you think it was? A turkey?
Yes.
What'd you think it was?
I didn't know it was a bird.
Pull up a turkey, man.
They fly-ish.
Let's see if it's a bird or not.
I don't think it's a bird.
Huh.
Pull up a turkey. You don't think that's a bird?
They can't fly. They're too fat. Yeah, that's kind of like my cat, but they're just too fat. They can't really fly.
I don't think that's why the cat can't fly.
Some of them have glandular issues. Okay, so let's chill. Um, what about a chicken? You didn't think a chick— what'd you think a chicken was? You— have you ever eaten chicken?
Yeah.
You didn't know it was a bird?
I don't know what really was a bird.
You think chicken's good?
Yeah, but I'm not going to eat them.
You're not going to eat a chicken?
Well, I want to. If it's not my chicken, then I will eat it. Yeah, obviously. Because I don't care about someone else's chicken.
Facts. What about this, though? What's another bird you would eat? Penguin?
You can eat penguins?
No.
Oh, I don't think so. Yeah, I don't think you can eat a penguin.
But I'm just saying, if you could, you have to eat it.
I would never eat a penguin.
Okay, what about owl?
No.
Have a little owl.
No.
Why?
No!
Name one more bird you would eat.
I would— I never have eaten a bird before. Except chicken, but—
And turkey.
Well, I've had turkey, but never—
What's another bird people are eating? What about sparrow?
What's a sparrow?
What about a bluebird?
What's a bluebird?
Just a blue, like a blue—
You eat pheasants? Now that I said that, I feel like—
Pheasants? Pheasants, not pheasants.
Those are cute!
You wouldn't have a little bite of that?
I would never eat one of those!
They're blueberry flavored! Hannah! It's just one bite. I'm not asking you to have a lot.
No! How's it gonna fly or leave?
They'll figure it out. They're very powerful.
If you eat its wing, that's not gonna be able to fly, it's damaged.
I've seen a lot of damaged things that are able to freaking take off. What about this bad fella right here?
Yeah, I would eat anything ugly.
You would?
Yes, I would. Oh, because I don't care about the—
punishing it for being ugly.
Yes.
Well, Hannah, how about this then? What is— if you had some one thing to tell everybody out there that was kind of positive, what do you think it would be?
Positive?
Yeah.
Everybody's gonna die one day.
That is— that's a crazy thing to say, but yeah, that's one way to look at it. Yeah. With that said, you want to have some, uh, birthday cake with me?
Yeah, sure.
Okay, so my favorite type of dessert is tiramisu.
That's Grace's. Oh yeah, it's the best. Yeah.
Okay, but how about this? I know your sister has a baking channel.
Yeah.
Can she come in and help us?
Yeah.
Oh, check out the desserts.
Yeah, awesome.
Okay, so now we're joined here by your sister. Do you want to introduce her to us, Hannah?
Okay, you're Grace?
I'm Grace.
Okay, Grace, and what's it been like having Hannah as a sister? And be honest with us.
She's, um, interesting. She's funny. She is funny. She, um, I didn't think I was gonna have a little sister, actually.
Oh, so she was a surprise?
She was a surprise.
What?
I thought I was gonna be the last kid, but I told my mom a lot, I was like, I really want a little sister, and we just had a sister.
And you got Hannah. And how'd you feel when it was Hannah? Were you—
well, when she was first born, I thought, oh, she's cute, she's a cute little baby. But as she grew up, her personality like just immediately snapped in. Like, um, when she was even a baby, she was sassy, you know, she would laugh.
Was she?
Yeah, yeah. I talked a little when I was little. I actually talked when I was like a baby.
You could talk a little?
Yeah.
Not a lot.
Yeah, like maybe like that much at least.
But some.
Yeah.
Do you think she looks up to you sometimes or no?
No, I just do my own things.
Yeah, I think we're similar in a way. Yeah, I think so. Um, she takes some stuff from me.
I do not.
I think so.
I do my own makeup looks.
Yeah, but does she steal some of your hairstyles and things like that?
No.
Yeah, Grace, how'd you get that red streak in your hair? Yeah, because I like this.
It looks great. Is that real Kool-Aid?
It's not Kool-Aid.
It's, uh, like a conditioner.
It's like hair dye.
Oh, nice.
It was supposed to come out.
But, uh, so it's gonna be forever.
Now your sister has a baking channel. Do you want to tell us a little bit about it, uh, Hannah?
Oh, Grace, how about you? Um, yeah, she never, you know, actually puts her face in the videos, but she doesn't.
I do.
Oh wow, you made this?
Yeah, yeah, that's actually one of my favorite cakes. It's recent.
Oh, that's a Stranger Things cake. That's pretty dope.
I'm scared of the show though.
So yeah, I don't watch that kind of stuff usually. No, because I like to get to bed early, right? And my neighbors have a loud dog and it's hard to sleep. Hannah, what do you think I should do about that?
Um, I don't know. I'll be on— it's an alligator.
Well, that's one thing.
Oh, go to the BTS one.
Oh really?
Oh, that's not a cake.
Yeah, I got You got tickets? So me and Grace are going to a BTS concert.
What, the Korean rock band?
Yeah.
Oh yeah, yeah, they're great. I'm real excited.
I've never seen them. Where are they performing at, in Orlando?
Yeah, actually, um, Alabama. I'm pretty sure, I'm pretty sure we're going to the Tampa show. It's in April.
Dude, I would like to meet those guys. Have y'all ever met them?
No, no, no.
They probably don't know us.
Yeah, they don't know us cuz they're Korean. They're all Yeah.
So, but tell me a little bit more about your baking channel. Do you do it just for fun? Is it a hobby? Bring it back up.
So it's like, I started it because my dad, when he would go to work, he loved sweets and he loved coming home. And I remember it was either mom or dad, they bought like a baking kit off of Amazon. And I was like, and I just started baking and this is in our old house and it just kind of started. And then my mom made my channel. Oh, that sounds good. She made it when I was like 11. To just document everything. And then it just started—
One time I made a cake. It was like a Nutella cake, and I added like Nutella on it. And I— that was probably the first cake I ever made. And, um, my brother actually thought it was pretty good.
Did he?
Yeah. So I, I didn't actually know how to make frosting, but I added Nutella at the— for the frosting. Oh, then The cake was actually chocolate vanilla. It was— and then I also put like some strawberries and like maybe some blueberries on the top, and that was really good.
Okay, that sounds very good. And take us through this cake really quick, Grace.
Okay, it was— so the sand was actually graham crackers.
So I was making two cakes this day. It was actually really chaotic, so it was due the next day. But this is a SpongeBob—
do for who, like the Cake Lord or whatever?
Like, I actually—
like, who, the Dark Dessert Wizard or something? Who forced you to make 2 cakes in 1 day?
It was actually kind of crazy. It was for a teenager my age for 2 big cakes. I'm like, gosh.
She, I don't think she actually meant to get like 2 cakes.
Okay.
Yeah.
So this one was really fun to make though. I made the toppers and stuff because not out of creativity, but out of, but I didn't have the toppers that I needed.
Is this a SpongeBob cake?
Yeah.
Oh, that's great. What do you love about baking, or is it just kind of a hobby?
I don't know. It's just a fun thing to do. Like, cake kind of does bring people together. Like, it's always at a celebration, a wedding, a birthday. And to be a part of somebody's life like that is really fun.
Oh, this is an Easter cake?
Yeah.
That whole thing's a cake?
Yeah.
Oh, that's pretty dope. Yeah. Do you think that Hannah is a good judge of good desserts, of cakes?
Yeah, I do like cake, Grace.
She says random things. Like she'll say something that doesn't match the description. Like mysterious and spicy.
Grace.
She'll say sweet and spicy.
Grace.
For a cake.
Let's be honest here. That's all I want, Hannah. Is that all you want? Is for Grace to be honest here?
Yes.
Yeah.
That's pretty honest. Okay, Hannah, how would you describe? That cake?
It was good. I did like it. I actually liked the basket. It actually turned out better than I imagined.
Okay. Do you remember when I made that?
I do not actually. I don't think I was born at that time.
Okay.
I think, no, I was actually.
Was she born?
Yeah.
How long ago was it?
I think it was 2 years ago.
Okay, so.
But I needed something to post.
And how old are you now?
9. I was 6 at that time.
So yeah, let's just look at the truth. Oh, and what's your channel called, Grace?
Graceful Purposeful Art.
Oh, Graceful Purposeful Art. I'll subscribe for sure. And so it's my birthday. So what I wanted to do was I want to try out 3 different of my favorite dessert, which is Tiramisu? Yep, correct. I want to try out 3 different ones and then we all decide which one is our favorite.
That's a good idea.
Yeah, and I thought, Hannah, and I thought, Hannah, you could let us know which one is the best.
Okay.
Okay. And we could all put on shades for this if we want.
Yeah, great idea.
We wouldn't normally do this, but I have to step into this episode because the, the editing got just confusing when we tried to have Hannah come in to have birthday cake and pick out some desserts from our area that she would enjoy. And if you want to see that happen, you can check that out. It's over on our clips channel, and that is there. And we're grateful to Hannah and the Strickland family for coming in. And now back to the end of the episode. Um, well, Hannah, is there anything else you want to share with us, do you think?
I don't know. How about Grace?
Yeah, Grace, what do you think? Anything?
Yeah, what are you thinking overall?
Yeah, wow, I don't know. I'm— I don't know, just we're in Nashville, we're here, it's a very different experience.
Well, tonight, what do you think we should have for dinner?
Yes, it's a great question. I know there's like a good steak place.
That sounds good.
Um, there's a place that has good, um, barbecue.
Wow.
There's a place that has, um, some kind of New Age cuisine with like fish. And then there's like a good cheeseburger place. They have a place that has salmon. There's a place that also serves—
she likes salmon.
Just throw her under the aquarium.
I don't like salmon.
A lot of people know, and it's tough to imagine.
Yeah, it's tough to imagine. Like, who likes salmon anymore?
Who's eating salmon these days with everything that's going on, you know?
Yeah, I don't like salmon. That's disgusting.
I liked it when things were more chill.
Yeah, like, I like rice and salmon, but like, I don't like just salmon.
Oh, if salmon stops by by itself, bro, I'm out.
Yeah, you know. Yeah.
Um, so I don't know what I would recommend. There's some good restaurants though.
Yeah, I really like— um, what do I like? I like— I really love mashed potatoes, omelets. This morning for breakfast, we actually— I had an omelet, a pancake. So I got a pancake. It's like, uh, Mom, what was it called?
Um, it was actually an oat cake.
It was an oat cake, but pancake.
Yeah.
And, um, was it good? Yes, it was really good.
Oh God, I want that.
And I put like, I put like a lot of fruit on the top, and then I poured some maple syrup on it, and then butter. Well, the butter was first. First. First. Um, yeah.
Amen. Amen. Um, Grace, you have a baking channel. People can check it out.
Yep.
And Hannah, people can check you out and also can learn about cystinosis. And what do you say to other— do you meet other kids that have cystinosis ever?
Not really, honestly.
You know a few?
No.
No, actually, yeah.
Okay, so some people.
Yeah, I only know like one person maybe.
Yeah. And it's just not even a thing, is it? No, it's calm. Yeah, we keep it moving. Yep, yep. Um, anything else you want to say to everybody before we leave, Anna?
Um, I don't know.
Yeah, that's a fair thing. Yeah, sometimes we don't know what we want to say.
Yeah.
Do you always have something to say, or sometimes you don't?
Grace, how do you say something?
Why do you always chuck it to me?
Yeah, Grace, what's your problem?
Yeah. Yeah.
What?
What's your problem? Sorry, sorry, sorry.
No, I actually can't hear. I can't hear.
You can't hear? Oh my God, dude.
Dom can't hear either.
You can't even see good? Y'all's family is barely making it.
I mean, we don't clean, we don't cook, we really just don't do anything, I guess.
Exact— exactly.
And that's what she's been saying this whole time.
Yes!
Well, happy birthday to me and thank you.
Happy birthday to me.
And thank you for truly for making my birthday a nice time. I appreciate it.
Well, are you going to give them the present?
Oh yeah, I have a fricking present. Let me get it. It's my fricking birthday.
Yeah.
And yeah. And everybody can check out the Strickland Hope Foundation, where the goal is to help tertiary costs for families that have a loved one that is in Uh, in medical care. Let me see this item. Here we go. Let me see what it is. Hmm. Ooh, might be a fish. Ooh, maybe it's a rectangle shirt.
You getting close? Ooh.
Oh, it's a Bible. Is it?
Hey.
Yeah, it's got my name engraved on it and it says Romans 8:28, "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God." Oh, thank you so much. I, um, who doesn't need to brush up on their Bible-ling?
Okay, so I'm gonna please take this plate for me.
Yeah, Trevin will take it.
Thank you.
Let me see what we got here. Oh, from Niceville. Okay, thank you, because it is kind of a fascinating name for a place.
I was gonna bring cookies, but I forgot.
Well, we had all those, so that's perfect.
Yeah.
Yes, Niceville. Niceville really does exist.
This is great, actually.
But this is great, having a Niceville shirt, because I didn't even think it exists. When you said that, it made me think of, um, And growing up, people would always say, um, when I'd say, oh, I'm from Niceville, they'd say Nashville.
We said, no, not Nashville, Niceville.
Niceville. Oh yeah, it sounds like Nashville. Niceville. Niceville.
Nashville.
Niceville. Niceville. Can you speak with a Mexican accent?
I don't know how, actually. I don't.
But try it.
I don't know how.
Eh, what's happening? Um, thank you both. Thank you, ladies, both. Thanks for coming and joining my birthday. Thank you for the wonderful gifts, Dawn. I appreciate it. Hannah, thank you so much. When you open your restaurant, 7 Days of Pasta, will you— can I come in? Yeah, you will. Can I get a discount, a coupon or something?
Uh, yeah, sure.
Okay, great. I appreciate that. And when can we see it opening? Are we talking like July, August?
Maybe when I at least turn 16.
Okay, so pretty soon. Ah, yes, 7 years. Yeah, that sounds good. All right, we'll be waiting. We'll be waiting outside. Okay.
Yeah.
Okey-doke. Uh, thank you so much, uh, for joining us.
Thank you.
Oh, you're very welcome. We had a nice time. Thank you, ladies.
Now I'm just floating on the breeze and I'm I feel I'm falling like these leaves. I must be cornerstone.
Oh, but when I reach that ground, I'll share this peace of mind I found.
I can feel it in my bones, but it's gonna take a little
