Episode summary

Aaron Parnas reports on a closing message Donald Trump gave in front of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which he says left many Republicans puzzled. The episode plays excerpts from the speech, where Trump discusses the pool's algae problem, a joke about renaming it, plans for a renovated golf course and a proposed triumphal arch in Washington.

Parnas describes the event as focused on Trump's own projects rather than affordability, a view he presents as his own assessment. Listeners will hear his account of Republican reactions and his argument about what the speech may mean for the midterm elections.

WTF. That's what Republican sources are telling me right now, over text, over call. They're like, "What the hell did we just witness?" Donald Trump's closing message today he decided to give in front of the Reflecting Pool, the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool that has had issue upon issue upon issue. And, well, the closing message given by the President of the United States rattled so many Republicans across the country that many of them said, "Is something wrong with this president?"

Because he seemingly focused only on himself, and only on his escapades in Washington, D.C., his Reflecting Pool, his arch, and other things that he wanted to beautify. And Republicans who are urging him, urging him, to talk about affordability have been left screaming internally, saying, "What the hell did we just watch?" I watched the entire thing, so you don't have to. Make sure to subscribe to support this work. We are getting suppressed on numerous platforms, and your subscriptions help fuel it.

Like, comment, share to get the word out. And let's talk about what happened today. Because Donald Trump decided to give his closing message, his closing message, in front of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. And boy, was it a closing message indeed. I'm going to show you many clips of him first talking about the algae in the Reflecting Pool, because that's what he focused on. His main focus was the algae.

Speaker 200:01:31

Fixed up by, uh, Biden and the Obama administration. They sort of worked. It was a similar group of people that worked. It didn't— it didn't work. Tremendous algae problems. And you have that picture with the algae? Yeah, let me see that. This is, uh, this was a picture taken when it was just before they closed it down. And this picture, this was in the Biden era, right after.

It didn't work. They closed it down for 2 years. They spent a fortune. They just spent money after money after money. It's— look, it's not an easy thing. The algae is brutal. It forms easily. And we haven't— I don't think you'll see too much. We have great equipment in there that just doesn't happen. But the green, that's not grass, that's algae. That— it took over the entire pool. And then they closed it down, but they didn't remove any of the dirt and the filth. And it looked like that for— not like this.

They took out the water, so all you saw was dirt and filth and paper and everything else for years under the Biden and Obama administrations. Pretty, pretty bad.

Aaron Parnas00:02:54

He was literally doing show-and-tell, show-and-tell the entire time. He had the staffer next to him giving him these pictures in real time, and he was doing show-and-tell. Now, a lot of people are going to say, "Well, Aaron, he probably was there in front of thousands of people, right? Like, his— he was excited, right? People were excited to see all these things." Hold on. Hold on. He was alone. He was alone. There was not a person behind him. And in front of him, maybe 30, maybe 40 reporters, National Park employees.

He even started joking about possibly renaming the Reflecting Pool the Trump Pool at a point.

Speaker 200:03:34

Thrilled to announce the official opening of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Now we're giving serious thought to changing the name to the Trump Reflecting Pool. We'll announce that sometime tomorrow. I'm sure that Secretary Doug Burgum will have a lot of fun in announcing that now. I'm only kidding. I'm only kidding. Please don't report it. Just— they'll cut it off and they'll say, "He's changing the name."

This is— it's like a president. It's an elderly man just, like, talking to himself. Before we continue, a quick word from our sponsor. I need to tell you about something personal that happened, something recent, and it's an uncomfortable conversation, and the conversation centered around life insurance. After my wife and I had our daughter, who's now 6 months old, my wife sat me down and she essentially said, "Aaron, it's time to have this conversation. You now have a 6-month-old. You now have a baby. You need to make sure that in the event that, God forbid, something ever happens to you, that we are okay."

And I remember that conversation, and it was the first time I had really thought about getting life insurance. And it's why I partnered for this video with a company called Ethos. After talking about the Reflecting Pool for about 30 minutes, he decides to talk about his many other projects across D.C., from his arch to his golf course.

Speaker 200:05:50

Go from 250 to 500 statues. It'll be incredible. It's on about 45 acres, right on the Potomac. And right next to that, we're doing a renovation of the golf course, which is in a horrible condition, very dangerous, in a horrible condition. The walls are caving in. The whole thing is a mess. And we're doing a renovation of the golf course, and we're going to make it a world championship course for the US Open, for the PGA Championship, for the Ryder Cup, President's Cup.

It'll be in shape to play that on one day's notice. It's going to be built to the highest standards of golf, and it'll be unbelievable. And, you know, you have views of the different monuments. And it's going to be open to the public, and we're going to give a discount to people that live in Washington, D.C., substantial discount, so they can play it. But it's in very bad shape right now. It's— it's, as they say, it's had it. It's a mess. And we will be building a world-class golf course.

Aaron Parnas00:06:56

So then he went and talked about his golf course, and then he finished by talking about his triumphal arch. His arch.

Speaker 200:07:03

We're working with Doug and the group very hard. We're going for a final approval of the Triumphal Arc military complex, and that's in the circle by Arlington Bridge. It's— it's spectacular. It will be more beautiful, and to me, the most beautiful arc. 59 cities have them. The most beautiful arc to me is the one in Paris. It's called the Arc de Triomphe. And we will be doing this, the Triumphal Arc military complex.

It's going to have tremendous drone capability. We would say sniper or shooter capability. Its height, its platforms, its storage capacity is incredible. It's right smack in the middle of everything. So.

Aaron Parnas00:07:57

This is the closing message from a president who is seemingly just on his own terms, in his own world, just kind of maniacally thinking about everything he wants and nothing that his party wants. It is bad for him. It's getting worse for him. And those inside the Republican Party are saying, "What the actual F? What are we doing anymore?"
