This is the Dan Levator Show with the Stugatz Podcast.

00:00:04

Pow!

00:00:08

We did it, everybody! We made it to Friday! Give it up for Friday! Give it up for Friday, everybody! That's right, we did it. It's the end of the week. The NFL Draft begins last night. We got lots of playoff action. There's Stanley Cup playoffs. Let's introduce everybody we have here today because we are missing a few people. We got Chris, we got Roy, we We got Jimmy, we got Juju, we got Trista, and of course Dave Dameshek not joining us from the West Coast. He's at his mom's house. He's at his mom's house in Pittsburgh. How about, how about waking up in the Lord's time zone and doing the Friday show with us, Dave? That's a treat for you.

00:00:45

Uh, I'm on cloud nine, and not just because I'm talking to you right now. It's heavenly here on the banks of the Three Rivers. Yes, some discord because of who the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted, but people are in— yes, that's right, bingo. But, but yes, just magical vibes around here for most people running around Pittsburgh. Please don't bring up the Stanley Cup playoffs again. And I think we'll, we'll be in— we'll be better off if we can go that way. The only thing that was thumbs down so far, my travel mates here, Lucy and Rose and Carmen.

00:01:21

Are they staying at your mom's too?

00:01:23

They're not at my mom's. I offered. They didn't want— they said no, which I thought was— Little rude, little, but whatever, they made their decision. But then I said like, let me help you decide on dinner and they wanted to go their own way. And so they went off to dinner and apparently they went out for sushi. Would you go out for sushi if you're in Pittsburgh for a couple of days? Would sushi be the direction you would go?

00:01:49

Absolutely freaking not. In Pittsburgh? What body of water is nearby Pittsburgh for sushi?

00:01:56

Well, there's, as it happens, there are 3 rivers by, by the city.

00:02:00

Not one with fish inside of it that you want to put inside rice?

00:02:04

I agree with you. Yes, I agree. Well, I, I mean, I happen to agree with you. It wouldn't have been my first choice. I tried to take them to Primanti's, but not unlike Kurt Kerb Street, they gave it the hi-hat.

00:02:15

Well, okay, so, so Primanti's is the place that you would go to eat there in Pittsburgh? Because what happens with me when I'm on the college football tour with ESPN Radio and I travel every week during college football season, everyone says, oh, you're going so-and-so, you got, you got to get the barbecue. It's like, yeah, I know, man. Like, barbecue is great everywhere. Barbecue is always good. Everyone's recommending you got to get the barbecue. I get it. Barbecue for you, food is awesome. So if in Pittsburgh, where, what kind of food are we getting then?

00:02:46

What was that?

00:02:46

Well, like in New Orleans, I know where you're going, Zazz. Like in New Orleans, one of the best food cities on the big blue marble, they do say like, don't get pizza, you know, 'cause that they don't do well. And that's kind of what I would consider sushi. Not to say there aren't a couple of decent, very spendy places in Pittsburgh to get good sushi, but you don't just randomly hit the streets and say like, let's get some nice fresh salmon. You know, you go out for some good pizza and, you know, there's a great food town, but sushi is maybe where we come up a little bit short here.

00:03:24

Lucy looked like she really enjoyed herself last night in Pittsburgh during the draft. I will say I want to hear from Dave. I want a firsthand account of what it was like out there for you guys. But first, I do want to say we did like a real draft show last night. All right. Like a real legit draft show. I got messages from people. I got legit messages from people last night. People in sports media who messaged me last night. I tuned into you guys and you're doing a real draft show, which we did. Let's give it up for Friday and for doing a real draft show.

00:04:01

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:04:02

How about that?

00:04:03

I feel like they're really talking about one person there, you know, without Brooks. I feel like we would—

00:04:08

I feel a little bit like a failure. I'm very peeved. Carl put me on the case to try to find the picks that were tipped. And I came in here, asked Mike Ruiz, hey, like, who should I be following? He's like, I don't think you're going to find anybody who's going to be tipping picks. And guess what? Freaking Fuentes just made me look so bad. He was 2, 3 picks ahead of ESPN. I was like, well, my— I'm out of a job.

00:04:32

I'm not going to lie. I was very impressed with us.

00:04:35

I didn't think—

00:04:35

I didn't think journalists were still like scooping picks like that. I haven't been paying attention. To that the last few years. I didn't think they were still doing that.

00:04:43

We, we did a really, really good show. So shout out, of course, to Buck.

00:04:48

Juju and I are feeling pretty incompetent back here. You guys are just praising what a great show you did and we weren't even here.

00:04:53

Well, we're not naming names. You know, it's not like we said, hey, you did a good job, you did a good job, you did nothing.

00:04:58

Everyone did great.

00:04:59

Yeah, it's a really good thing. I especially, I thought I was a standout.

00:05:04

Well, Dave, Dave, okay, so what was it? You guys were at a bar in Pittsburgh last night. You and Lucy, who again, she looked like she had such a great time. How was the experience last night for you guys out there?

00:05:17

Shout out McFadden's. Yeah, it was a good time in there. I had a nice burger and tasty fries.

00:05:23

That was the highlight.

00:05:25

No, no, no, no, no, no. I just— I listen. I'm just letting you know what went down.

00:05:30

Paint the picture.

00:05:30

Okay.

00:05:30

I didn't realize we were, you know, giving out our meals before we get into the crux.

00:05:35

Yeah, well, that's what I guess you thought wrong, because that's what I just did. I did. Um, but beyond that, it was great. It, it has the vibe right now in Pittsburgh of sort of like, I don't know what's going on. And it's funny, the Stanley Cup playoffs are going on and the local hockey team is down 0-3 in the series. And, um, there are the NBA playoffs going on. I'm vaguely aware of that. I hardly really— it's, it's that thing of like, what day of the week is it kind of thing. This is, this is the only thing happening right now where I sit is the NFL Draft. And it really is great vibes. And I don't want to overstate like the ultimate football city, but it is the most consequential city in all of football America. So this makes sense to finally have an NFL Draft here on the banks. But yeah, just, just magical vibes out here.

00:06:21

You guys did a great job, uh, overall. Everybody here, I thought, I thought it was really fun. It was a really fun show, really great job. And for the viewer last night, you got what you wanted because the Dolphins were a major story last night, all right? At least for us locally. So you wait, like, again, people messaging me, I wasn't, I wasn't watching you guys, but when the Dolphins passed on Reuben Bane, I tuned right in to see your reaction. So last night was a great show for us. Before we get to the Dolphins stuff, was the highlight of the evening Michael Biamonte? Like, I would imagine some viewers, because we didn't say that we were having a special guest announcer of the picks. And all of a sudden, when, you know, the Raiders pick is in— they took Mendoza, by the way— when the Raiders pick is in and Mike Biamonte, legend, goosebumps, walks in here straight out of retirement. That must have been a real thrill for the viewers. Can, can we get like a sample of Biamonte there for folks who, who did not tune in live last night?

00:07:29

After the trade with the Dallas Cowboys The Miami Dolphins select Caden Proctor.

00:07:38

Oh, the guy that Brooks identified as the, the bust, 354-pound bust. You had Ruben Bain on the board.

00:07:54

Let's go to the history.

00:07:55

The only guy the injury fella said, I don't want to watch any more tape, I'm disgusted by it. I gotta hear—

00:08:00

I can't watch any more of this.

00:08:01

I gotta hear Greg Cody's take on this.

00:08:04

Because they had Reuben Bain available there for them and they take Cade.

00:08:07

You've got to be shitting me. Let's go out to look at Nick Wright laughing at us. You got to be shitting me. We've got the Dolphin legendary columnist.

00:08:17

It is.

00:08:17

It's very good.

00:08:19

It's very good. Yeah.

00:08:26

We've got the injury fella here.

00:08:28

So sad.

00:08:28

Is disgusted by his team.

00:08:31

It was so disappointing. And look, full disclosure, I'll let you behind the curtain for a second. Every time Mike Biamonte would walk in here to make his pick, we did not know who he was going to announce. Like, I thought that was a cool little drama that we added for us.

00:08:46

And us being The Scoop, people were tuning in like, oh shit, these guys are ahead. So like, people were— it was really cool.

00:08:52

Now, in that instance, in that clip that we showed, Mike Ryan knew that he was not going to announce Reuben Bain. Because Mike decided in that moment, because it's Ruben Bain, because it's Hurricanes, he was given an early look to see what was about to happen. But otherwise, none of us ever knew who was going to be selected, Dave.

00:09:12

Yeah, but how do we feel about— pull back the curtain— about Mike Ryan kind of sort of celebrating how funny it was that the Dolphins didn't take the Canes guy?

00:09:23

Well, he's not a Dolphin fan. Like, he doesn't care about the Dolphins.

00:09:25

I know he's not, but it's still untoward. He's surrounded by Dolphins fans. He should be more empathetic. You know, by the way, I am, uh, society's greatest empath, and so that's why I feel for you guys. Um, another one we forgot with this. I, it really— I, I can't get over that they didn't take— I forget about Caden Proctor. I, that, that element, that discussion of if he's gonna pan out or not aside, what if there were side by side two great edge rushers and one of them was Reuben Bain and the other guy was, uh, was from Stanford? You, you have to take the local guy if you're the new regime to win over the locals. You understand you have 4 months until the season starts and you have 2 or 3 years before you know what Reuben Bain is as a pro football player. In the meantime, you've bought yourself— see, I know I just moved down here, Dolphins fans, long-suffering fans, but, but I'm with you. I'm with you spiritually and beyond. I thought that was just the loco pick of the draft.

00:10:25

But Dave, let me push back on that. Like, you're actually serious that you want your GM of your team to make the decision based off what? Let me just make the fans— his first pick, he finally gets the job to be the head GM somewhere, and you think his first pick should be, I'm afraid, let me just make the fans happy? I actually am gonna argue, like, I actually respect the fact that he stuck to his convictions. He clearly thinks Proctor's a stud, and obviously we don't know. I know a lot of people think he's wrong, but I actually am okay with a guy that's like, I don't care what all these mock drafts say, I have an eye. I've been at the— with the Green Bay Packers. I've probably scouted some guys that I drafted him in the 4th round. He was my guy. He was supposed to— you know what I mean? Like, he, he's confident in his ability. So I'm actually okay with a guy just having conviction.

00:11:08

Well, I, I know what you're getting at with that, but of course they're intentionally tanking the season, right? And so if you're trying to—

00:11:18

why do we keep saying that? I, I don't know that that's the case. I don't know that that's true. I mean, they went down and they signed the most attractive free agent out there, that being Malik Willis. And they didn't sign him to this 10-year deal, they signed him to a 3-year deal. So if you're intentionally going out to be terrible, you're throwing away a third of the contract you just gave out to a quarterback.

00:11:37

Yeah, that's what the Atlanta Falcons did a couple of years ago, and now Tuohy has taken over up there, but, uh, in Atlanta. But that's basically the way it's going to play out. I felt bad immediately, again, my empathy coming out, um, for Malik Willis. He signs that deal, and clearly then they deal away Jalen Waddle and everything else, it seems like they intend to ghost 2026. And if that is right, maybe I'm wrong, Zazz, but that's my sense of things. Um, at least you keep the locals' eye on the ball a little bit by having the Canes, uh, alumnus running around out there. You're not going to win a ton of games either way, so at least get the 2027 with the eye candy of like, ah, he was great on the same field for the Canes and now he's doing it for the Finns.

00:12:25

Chris, it's not about— No, I think it does, Chris. It's not about— it's not about being afraid. So let's pick the guy who is going to give us all the goodwill from the public. The point is you got two players here who are essentially— who are both expected to be high picks. Why not take the guy? Like, it's not a reach to take Reuben Bain. If anything, you would say it's a reach to take Caden Proctor. Reuben Bain probably should have been selected 4, 5, 6. I mean, when we had Nick Wright on right before the Chiefs pick— although it was after the Chiefs pick for us, it was before for him because he was watching 15 minutes behind— he wanted Reuben Bain to be selected number 6 overall. He was hoping the Chiefs traded up for Reuben Bain at number 6 overall. It's not like it would have been a reach. I, I think what Dave is saying, and certainly what I'm saying, is sometimes it's okay to make your customer base happy, like the entire customer base, with a brand new boss. All right, John Eric Sullivan, Jeff Hafley, they are the new bosses.

00:13:27

They run, they run the operation now. It's okay if you tell all the customers, you know what, we're gonna do something that you all like. And that would have been drafting Reuben Bain. But then on top of it, we had, uh, Brooks— uh, I want to make sure I say his name right— Brooks Austin. We had Brooks Austin who No ties whatsoever to the Miami Dolphins.

00:13:47

Before—

00:13:47

and he was great last night, Brooks— before the draft begins, he tells us the one guy who's expected to go kind of high in the draft who he really dislikes, does not like the tape, Caden Proctor, and goes in on it. You would— it was like, it was like a setup. He goes in on how this guy, he's miserable, I would never select him. And then, by the way, can we get the Nick Saban clip? So this was Saban from yesterday. Nick Saban was on with the Pat McAfee Show because they were broadcasting live out there in Pittsburgh. You know, McAfee's a Pittsburgh guy. Saban's on with them all the time. Of course, Nick Saban, he recruited Caden Proctor. He coached Caden Proctor. And mind you, Nick Saban is generally super positive when he talks about his former players. This is before the draft. Here's Nick Saban on Caden Proctor.

00:14:42

Now the issue with him is he's not a bad person. He'll do whatever you ask him to do once you get him in the building, but when he's not in the building, he might get a little overweight, he might not come in in the best shape, and those are the kind of things you got to manage with him. But I think they're manageable. In other words, he's not really a self-starter that's going to go out there and you know, get in great shape and come to camp like you want them. But if you can get them to come to camp, if you got them there and get them ready to go—

00:15:12

I get it, we want the Dolphins to follow Mel Kiper's mock draft.

00:15:15

No, it's not—

00:15:16

Payne was supposed to go there. Our GM shouldn't have any conviction about how he evaluates these players.

00:15:20

It's not about following the mock draft. It's not about being a sheep and following everybody else. What it's about is if, if you're a brand new general manager and you have a high first round pick You're trying— you're setting the— and it's a rebuild. You're setting the foundation for your team, for how you want to build your franchise. And his coach here, Dave, his former coach, is telling you he's got a hard time with work ethic when you're not all over him. He's got a weight issue potentially if he's not in the building, and he's not a self-motivated— he's not a self-starter. Is that the guy you want to say, this is the— this is my very first building block? And I think it's fair to say, man, that's super question.

00:16:12

Hey, it's Mike Ryan, and I want to talk to you about the random midweek hang that you have with your friends. Maybe it's an NBA game, you get a text, hey, come over, you want to watch the game? And maybe you're like, ah, I don't know, I kind of just wanted to stay home. And then you think about it after your buddy hits you up, and you know just the thing that'll make that regular hang, that regular midweek hang around the basketball game into a special time, into a Miller Time. That's right, this happened to me just last week. I grabbed a 6-pack of Miller Lite, said I was on my way, and next thing you know, we're arguing about rotations like we're on the coaching staff, yelling about a missed call, and the game's coming down to the final possession. It was one of those nights that you look around You take a sip and you think, yeah, this was the right call and my friendship's stronger for it. Cheers to legendary moments with Miller Lite. Great taste, 96 calories. Go to MillerLite.com/Dan to find delivery options near you. Or you can pick up some Miller Lite pretty much anywhere they sell beer.

00:17:06

It's Miller time. Celebrate responsibly. Miller Brewing Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 96 calories and 3.2 carbs per 12 ounces.

00:17:16

Going for 2 when you're up by 5. Switching the zone when man isn't working. Oh, and building your new stadium in the state your team actually plays in. In sports, some things just make sense. You know what else makes sense? Drinking Jägermeister shots ice cold. Drinking it any other way would be like punting on first down! Or letting your worst hitter bat first! Or like going for two when you're down three with a second to go! It wouldn't make any sense! So don't let the team down when it comes to Jägermeister. Drink it cold or don't drink it at all! Jägermeister, damn, that's cold.

00:17:52

Drink responsibly.

00:17:53

Jägermeister Liqueur, 35% alcohol by volume, imported by Mast Jägermeister US, White Plains, New York.

00:17:59

Don Lebatard. John, can you rate my Al Pacino from that billiard scene in Carlito's Way if I do it for you? I think it's pretty good.

00:18:07

Yeah, okay.

00:18:08

Stugatz. You think you're big time? Well, you're gonna die! Big time!

00:18:17

That is on my infamous scale of 1 to 10, that's a, that's a 7.6.

00:18:26

Solid.

00:18:27

Good job, good job.

00:18:29

That's a Sui nominee right there. Good. This is the Dan Levatar Show with the Stew Gods.

00:18:42

But let's just remember too though, we don't know nothing, man. I watched Buffalo boo when we drafted Josh Allen. I watched Houston boo when they drafted J.J. Watt. Yesterday Mike said, "Man, when we took Joe Thomas, I was sad we didn't go Brady Quinn." You're right. So we just need to wait and see, wait and see, like David Sampson say.

00:19:03

But I think we can all agree, as a Cowboy fan who lays low, lays really low, Caleb Downs was the surefire, can't-miss guy. One of the only freshman starters that Nick Saban has had other than really top dudes. That was just a masterclass to make that draft, uh, trade, to give up two 5th round picks and then to trade with the Eagles from 20 to 23 and then get two 4th rounds back and get the same edge rusher Well, Malachi Lawrence, you know about that Malachi Lawrence?

00:19:40

Yeah, UCF, I get it. All right, take it easy.

00:19:43

Just a couple of programs with first-round picks.

00:19:45

So then I have other questions too when it comes to Caden Proctor. Like, the Dolphins offensive line, they have a left tackle who's pretty good. They drafted him last year, what, second round? Was Patrick Paul, I think he was, like, he's pretty good. Okay, or it was two years ago. Uh, he's certainly not gonna play, uh, center. All right, so then let's look at like right tackle. Austin Jackson's a good player when he's healthy. Yes.

00:20:07

Yes.

00:20:08

So he's not going to take Austin Jackson's job if Austin Jackson's healthy. So I think they can—

00:20:12

I think Proctor can play guard.

00:20:13

Oh no, he can, he can. But they spent— and again, I know it's not this regime, but they spent a second rounder on the Samoan kid who was not any good. He was bad. Okay, so maybe they wanted to play that position. I, I say Samoan kid because, God, I don't know how to say his last name. It's, it's really hard. Um, I mean, did they just draft a guard in the first round then? Like, that's bad. Drafting a guard.

00:20:38

Unless he's Zach Martin.

00:20:39

Unless he's the best guard in the NFL.

00:20:41

I mean, if you take a guy that was skilled as a tackle, right? And is capable of then being able to move into that guard position when you're trying to build an offensive line and build your team from the inside out, it does feel like just like Chris said, if this guy can turn into— not quite Zach Martin because that might be the greatest guard that's played this entire century— but if he could be one of the 3 or 4 best guards in this league quickly, now you've built yourself an offensive line that you can build a team with from there.

00:21:14

I like the idea. I'm trying to run through in my head, not just in football but in any sport, where like Stanley Roberts from LSU, who was side by side with Shaquille O'Neal way back when— there must have been an issue down there in Baton Rouge back in the day with how good the food was. As a matter of fact, I I know the food is really good down there. Either way, how often do you hear about would-be legends in sports? As long as they don't eat themselves out of the league. That's like a bad— I'm with, I'm with Zazz. It just, it hits the ear weird. And the, the ability to say for the next 3 or 4 months, like, the storyline of like, it's the dawn of a new day, Dolphins fans, that doesn't matter.

00:21:56

So ridiculous to take a guy so that you can win the next—

00:22:00

you want people there? If you think going to the game—

00:22:03

if, if, if the Dolphins GM thinks Reuben Bain is not a good player, the idea that he would take him just to like win the next game—

00:22:10

he thinks Reuben Bain's not a good player is dumb.

00:22:12

I mean, I'm just saying, that's the other thing, right? What, Reuben Bain's not gonna work? I mean, he's— he obviously went where he went for, for a reason. I think though, I'm trying to figure it out because we're talking a ton of Dolphins for obvious reasons here. I do think, to Trista's point, like America's Allegiant team getting Caleb Downs. I think that is to me the, the weirdest— I mean, Caden Proctor is the weirdest pick where he went if it's not from the Rams. Ty Simpson is a weird pick. That's big storyline number 2. Um, I also thought Caleb Downs in the Copycat League, everybody sees Kyle Hamilton and what a difference maker he is in Baltimore. Wouldn't you want someone who can play big nickel and, and play outside if you absolutely need it.

00:22:58

I love a badass safety. I think, say, if you got a good player at safety, it's such a cool position to have a player.

00:23:03

Well, why didn't the Dolphins do that as well? You know, the Dolphins should have also made that pick if you, if you're just getting some building block pieces. Yes, left tackle is a premium position and safety isn't, but when you start talking about that hybrid secondary guy, now it's a different conversation. Um, and so it made sense to me that they would have gotten Caleb Downs. The Steelers pick was a, was an interesting one. And I'm trying to think of the other big storyline.

00:23:29

Well, yeah. Well, all right. Yeah. So we'll get back to the— because look, there's a lot of stories last night. The draft was—

00:23:34

I think those are only the big ones. I think I just hit the big ones.

00:23:37

It was, it was cool though, the draft last night because like we knew who was going to go number 1. And then after that, I was like, all right, I really have no idea what's going to happen. And so like last night was fun. And by the way, like that was only round 1 last night. There's still a lot more draft tonight and tomorrow. Only tonight, though, for Vrabel. Tomorrow's all about family and counseling. Jeremy, how come— how come you— like, what did you make of last night? Bruce!

00:24:02

I was at the Bruce Springsteen concert. It was incredible. I mean, the guy is still at unbelievable form, and he's nearly 80. The entire E Street Band, E Street Nation, if you will. I mean, the Boss. It was such a special show.

00:24:14

Is it your favorite?

00:24:15

Yeah, it's my first concert. That's my 9th Bruce Springsteen concert. I've even seen him on Broadway.

00:24:21

Okay, now hold on a second.

00:24:24

That draws another one of these.

00:24:25

Why, guys?

00:24:28

Why, why, why, why, why? All right, so obviously there's sentimental value because it's the first concert you've ever been to, but if it was— if he wasn't your first concert, like, is whoever you went to first was going to be your favorite?

00:24:40

No, but I, I was raised on Springsteen, and, uh, he's my, my favorite. He is— he has fulfilled all of the promise of what Bob Dylan was supposed to be.

00:24:50

It doesn't bother you he's like Mr. Hardworking Blue Collar Guy and the ticket prices nowadays are outrageous for Bruce Springsteen?

00:24:57

Yeah, but he has, but he has like worked with certain ticket companies.

00:25:03

I saw what the prices are.

00:25:03

To make sure, yeah, obviously the demand is, the demand is high. Sorry, you want him to give away $30 tickets?

00:25:10

I'm not talking about secondary market, I'm talking regular price.

00:25:13

I understand what the regular price is. What do you expect from demand when you're looking at arenas. That's not the conversation.

00:25:18

You see my mom and aunt?

00:25:21

No, I didn't see your mom and aunt.

00:25:22

What about—

00:25:23

I should have said hello. Look, what was really amazing about this tour is that it wasn't initially supposed to happen. And then everything happened in Minneapolis.

00:25:33

Wasn't supposed to happen.

00:25:35

And he was able to put together this tour that is just a giant protest. It's all of his protest music. It's all of the, the stories that he's told over the course of the years. Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine is touring with him again.

00:25:51

I've seen Bruce one time and I went— it was like 10 years ago. I went when Tom Morello was originally touring with them, which was awesome.

00:25:57

Truly.

00:25:58

And they played the Ghost of Tom Joad.

00:25:59

Yeah, of course they played the Ghost of Tom Joad. What do you think this is? His solo on the Ghost of Tom Joad, which is an 8-minute song when they play it together, is one of the sickest things I've ever seen anyone do live.

00:26:09

Question though, is he giving back? If this is all about protests, then I'm gonna need to see some of those exorbitant ticket price sales going to causes.

00:26:21

Yeah, so he had the— I believe the specific name of the organization is the Florida Immigrant Coalition that was there specifically to help with folks who are being illegally detained or deported specifically from the state of Florida. He's working with different local organizations, but what last night was about was just all of these moments where he's, he's just constantly speaking about the state of what's going on in America.

00:26:45

Does he play the same show every night?

00:26:47

Uh, no, he'll alter some of it, but it's been a lot of the same set, which is rare. Springsteen normally— I've seen Springsteen, uh, one time on, on 2 out of 3 nights. It was back-to-back concerts. He played 27 songs in each concert, and he only played 3 of the same songs back-to-back nights.

00:27:03

Now, do we remember, do we remember our first concerts? Juju, do you remember the first concert you ever went to?

00:27:09

Absolutely. I was at Fort Valley University in college. Uh, T.I., he had basically canceled the show. Everybody was packed into the, uh, the gym, and it was like, oh, T.I. ain't coming, y'all, everybody leave. So I put my back on the stage like, dang, look at all these ladies in here leaving, who am I gonna— and then on the microphone, uh, uh, T.I. said, y'all want y'all money back? Shout it! And then everybody ran back, my shirt was ripped, everything. But it was a classic, great show.

00:27:38

Don Lebatard. I ain't never met nobody in the world that's gonna hate Great nomination.

00:27:43

Like, who don't like Blue's Clues, bro? If you don't like Blue's Clues, you're a loser.

00:27:47

Stugatz.

00:27:48

Look, you get one paw print, that's the first clue. You put it in a notebook. Now what do you do? Blue's Clues, Blue's Clues.

00:27:58

Sit on the chair and think about it.

00:27:59

This is the Dan Levatar Show with the Stugatz. Trista, first ever concert?

00:28:12

First ever, 12 years old. My mom and sister pulled me out of summer camp to go see with my best friend from middle school, pulled us out in the, in the middle of the night to see Puff Daddy, No Way Out featuring Mase. So full circle moment. It was Mase, it was Puff, it was 112, it was Foxy Brown, it was Black Rob, it was The Lox. I mean, this might be the greatest rap concert ensemble of all time. And it was my first one. And I told that to Mase the first time I met him. It bought me a lot of, like, real cool points.

00:28:48

Roy, first ever concert? Al Jarreau. My mom and her sisters took their children across the street to Bayfront Park, and the children were busy playing Uno while the ladies enjoyed the show. Okay, Chris.

00:29:01

Spice Girls.

00:29:03

No, that's not true.

00:29:04

It is.

00:29:04

I swear.

00:29:05

It was with my— no, no, this is actually true. It was with, like, a group. I was young. I was like, I was like 9 or 10. It was with like my couple buddies and my— some mom took us. Was that the— it was at the West Palm Amphitheater.

00:29:16

My first, uh, 1997, uh, in the West Palm Amphitheater as well, back then Coral Sky Amphitheater, uh, Rage Against the Machine, Wu-Tang Clan, uh, incredible show. And Dave, first ever concert?

00:29:30

I caught that, uh, the Chicago leg of that exact same tour.

00:29:35

What a show!

00:29:35

How about that?

00:29:36

What a show!

00:29:36

Yeah, it was great. It was great. Yeah, Rage, uh, opened and, and the Wu closed it out.

00:29:43

Yeah, they would trade off. They would trade off, I think, because Wu opened when I went.

00:29:47

Zazz, do you know that I'm a member of the Wu-Tang Clan?

00:29:49

I don't know how to answer that.

00:29:50

It's the truth.

00:29:52

You can say no.

00:29:52

Here's a— here's my question. Uh, my answer is, by the way, uh, it was Genesis on the Invisible Touch Tour at Three Rivers Stadium. Um, Phil Collins and company used to fill stadiums. Um, The Zazz though. So you've been— I've heard tale that you've been to 30+ Pearl Jam shows.

00:30:16

Exactly 30 these days. Yeah, 30.

00:30:18

30.

00:30:19

Yeah.

00:30:19

Juju, you're a man of peace and love, but weigh in here. Too much? No.

00:30:24

I mean, look, once you like something, you like them, bro. At least he's supporting them with his cash and he's putting the younger generation— I think that's why a lot of those shows get attended, so he can put his two sons on. So Am I right, Zazz?

00:30:36

Yeah, and it's also like I asked Jeremy, does Bruce play the same show? Pearl Jam— every tour I see Pearl Jam several times. Last year I saw them 4 times. It's a completely different show every single night. And now I have the thrill of both my boys, especially my older one, are really into Pearl Jam too. So I have a buddy that I travel with every time to go see them.

00:30:55

I saw The Roots like 8 or 9 times. I'm gonna go see them again. So I—

00:30:59

With Fallon?

00:31:00

Yeah, not with Fallon, no, just on their own.

00:31:02

Yeah, does that count? If you go to Fallon Do you get to then say, I saw The Roots tonight? Does that count?

00:31:09

Wow, two Americas, ladies and gentlemen. The Roots. We need to put some respect on The Roots.

00:31:13

No, I'm making a joke. I know that The Roots are a legend. I'm just saying that that's where you can see them sometimes.

00:31:19

Anyway, Juju, which would you rather? You have to go to 9 Bruce Springsteen shows or 30 Pearl Jam shows. And keep in mind, before you answer, again, like I don't want to be a curmudgeon, but everybody celebrates Bruce Springsteen. Like, when you go in there, he's old. He's like, he's like 87 years old. And you go in there, it's 3 and a half hours nonstop, just song after song. Like, seems like about the 2-hour mark, I'd be ready to punt. Like, all right, I'm good, Bruce. See you. See you next time.

00:31:51

Yeah, right.

00:31:51

How say you, Juju?

00:31:52

I ain't gonna lie. I probably would rather hit 30 Pearl Jams.

00:31:56

PJ, that's crazy.

00:31:57

Just because, like you say, bro, when I'm in Bruce His voice, it hasn't touched my soul before, and so I would probably follow.

00:32:05

I do think though, Dave, at shows like Bruce, even though it's an arena full and sometimes stadium fulls, I, I feel like 95% of the audience are like hardcore and they love 3 and a half hours of Bruce.

00:32:20

Same as you. Well, right, and same as you as Pearl Jam. And I admire anybody who can figure out how to tap it, or when the fan base kind of takes over and has a life of its own. Like the Grateful Dead, I don't think necessarily loved the association. I mean, I think they did like everything that came along with it, that they have a durable fan base that goes wherever they go. But I don't think they dug the culture as much as the culture dug itself. I saw the Dead maybe 4 times, Rage Against the Machine probably 4 times, and 5, 6, maybe.

00:32:53

Have you seen Phish? If you've seen the Dead, you've seen— I've seen Phish like like maybe like 6.

00:32:57

I've only seen them once. I've seen Fishbone 3 times. That's the best live band of all time.

00:33:03

All right, I didn't know that. Now I know. So the first pick for the Dolphins last night, Caden Proctor. And then we get around to the end of the first—

00:33:11

look at that, from Fishbone to Dolphins.

00:33:13

Yeah, that's how we do it. And so the Dolphins are selecting 27. Now help me out with this, okay? So the Dolphins are coming up on, on— they're getting near 30, but then they trade up to 27. They traded up with San Francisco, where they moved up 3 spots but also gave up a 3rd-round pick to San Francisco while acquiring San Francisco's, I think, 5th-round pick. So they moved up 3 spots, it cost them a 3rd, they added a 5th. It was number 90 overall that they gave up. Help me out here. So they selected Chris Johnson, cornerback out of San Diego State, which Again, I, I know a little bit of college football. I'm not going to sit here and tell you that I'm an expert, okay? And, and these guys, it's their job to really study and know these guys. But Chris Johnson, there were 4 cornerbacks that were rated ahead of him when the Dolphins— that were available, that were rated ahead of him when the Dolphins made that pick. So, A, is that worth giving up a third round pick when you're only 3 spots away? That's question number 1. Question number 2 is, is my logic incorrect when I look at this where, all right, could they have still gotten him at number 30 without giving up a third round pick?

00:34:31

Because number 28 was a tackle, number 29 was a defensive tackle, and number 30 ended up being a wide receiver. So did they give up— like, did they outsmart themselves? Did because a third-round pick for a team that's rebuilding is rather valuable. Like, so did, did they play themselves here by giving up a third when they could have had this guy anyway?

00:34:54

It felt to me like the Dolphins' two picks indicated they were kind of like the guy in your fantasy league who coveted somebody so much that they overdraft him by like three rounds. Like, I really like this rookie and I'm gonna, I'm gonna jump the rest of the draft. Like, Yeah, good for you, man. You could have had them in the, in the 7th round. You didn't have to do that. That both of the picks felt that way for the Dolphins, but especially— and I'm with you, Zazz, I don't want to be a pretentious ass, and Juju is 100% right— no one knows anything. We have no idea if either one of those guys for the Dolphins is gonna work out. And how do I know that? Because the people who you say, Zazz, uh, devote their entire lives to this are right 50% of the time. They're right half the time. So who are we to sit here and say, oh, that guy is definitely a bad pick? But it does, to your point, I think you're right. Is there any indication that anybody was about to jump the line to get Chris Johnson from the Aztecs?

00:35:54

Specious.

00:35:55

And it's a good point. And I wanted to get you and Zazz's opinion on this as a new regime coming in. New GM, new coach, rebuilding. What do you guys think about going out so far, uh, outside of where mock drafts are and trying to get creative and zany and jumping up and trying to make trades for players who are probably going to be there at your position? You better be freaking really right if you're coming in in this perspective, because you could have just done the safe thing and people would have given you guys some grace.

00:36:28

Yeah, I mean, look, for the guy that the Steelers took, Dave, I'm not even going to try and say the tackle's name.

00:36:35

Max Ian Achiore. Ian Achiore.

00:36:38

All right.

00:36:38

Forget the Max part. Mike Fuentes helped me out with pronunciation here. And he said, he said Ian Achiore. And I'm like, no, no, no, he's not an Englishman. He's not Ian Achiore. It's, it's Max something. Oh no. Right. There's a first name. Max Iannaccio. Um, you know, it's, it's kind of— it's not to say it's definitely not a good pick, but it is a double, nay, triple down on the same position. The Steelers have now taken offensive tackle 3 out of the last 4 years, and if you include Derrick Harmon, they've taken tackles in 4 straight years. Um, yeah, I, I hear you, Trista. Um, this Again, this is not a team that's playing at the fringes to try to get itself from playoff team to Super Bowl contender. They're starting, it feels like, from square one. And I think things are going to feel very different a year from now for Malik Willis, which is why I feel bad for him. Everybody's like, ah, listen, it's fine, everybody understands the situation. But I think that it's almost inevitably that he's going to get screwed by this new regime. They get it, they sign then they deal away Jalen Waddle and they give away all this stuff.

00:37:50

You know, they're going to draft somebody in the first round. They're going to draft a quarterback next year, right? Isn't that almost inevitable? So where does that leave Malik Willis? It feels very sort of confused, almost like they're playing against themselves, the, the, the new Dolphins regime.

00:38:05

Dave, I stopped listening when you brought up that guy named Max because all I could think about was Max Weinberg, the incredible drummer of the E Street Band.

00:38:11

I know Max from, uh, Conan O'Brien.

00:38:13

Conan, that's right.

00:38:14

Be respectful.

00:38:15

Two Americas.

00:38:17

Hey, it's Mike Ryan, and I want to talk to you about the random midweek hang that you have with your friends. Maybe it's an NBA game. You get a text, hey, come over, you want to watch the game? And maybe you're like, ah, I don't know, I kind of just wanted to stay home. And then you think about it after your buddy hits you up, and you know just the thing that'll make that regular hang, that regular midweek hang around the basketball game into a special time, into a Miller Time. That's right, this happened to me just last week. I grabbed a 6-pack of Miller Lite, said I was on my way, and next thing you know, we're arguing about rotations like we're on the coaching staff, yelling about a missed call, and the game's coming down to the final possession. It was one of those nights that you look around, you take a sip, and you think, yeah, this was the right call, and my friendship's stronger for it. Cheers to legendary moments with Miller Lite.
