This is the Dan Levatore Show with the Stugats podcast.

00:00:07

Well, it's a good thing that we were warned. Good thing we were warned at the beginning of the week where Jeremy walked in here and he told us, Don't let the Miami Heats win both games this week. If they won both games this week, that would be a five-game winning streak, all right? If they won both games this week, they'd have been sitting six games over 500. Season best is seven games over 500. Don't let us win both games this week. It's a good thing you warned us, Jeremy, because they did not. You're welcome.

00:00:39

I was prescient.

00:00:41

The league took notice and sent out its best in the form of Milwaukee and Philadelphia to make sure the mission was carried out.

00:00:48

So who is the one that heated Tashay's counsel and got in the way that he winning two in a row? It's somebody in this room, I assume. Is it Zazlo? Is he the responsible party?

00:00:59

No, I I was on board. I told you the other day, I get sucked in momentarily with this heat team where they're looking good to me. I like watching Hyme Haukes, and I like watching Kela Ware, and and Kasperas Jokachunas and Pela Larson. I can get into this team. And then they get smoked in the fourth quarter against a bad Milwaukee team. And then last night, they stunk last night. They stunk last night.

00:01:29

They stunk in the first half. The second half was a close game. It was nip and tuck. It was back and forth. Then I thought, Spoh just stuck with a lineup that wasn't great for a little too long in the fourth. That's when Philly made its move. Then at the end, when you needed to make every shot, and have them not make shots, that didn't happen. The biggest shot, of course... Well, the big play was the maxi layup where Adam Bona was cosplaying as Larry Allen.

00:01:57

Offensive lineman just shoving everybody He got the way out of the way. No call.

00:02:01

No call on that. But then the big shot was, Embiid hit the shot, and you got to give him credit. Look, respect. The guy hit a big three.

00:02:07

I don't respect.

00:02:08

You don't respect it?

00:02:09

He's been playing great the last 10, 15, 20 games.

00:02:12

He's been playing really, really well. They're good. That's why you guys say, Oh, and then he lost to Philly. Philly's a good team.

00:02:16

Philly's a good team. And really good when they have been beaten.

00:02:18

What does that mean good team? They're going to get to the playouts. You think they're going to win a series?

00:02:21

They're 21 and 12 when they have been beaten.

00:02:23

Okay, answer my question, though. You think they're going to win a series in the playouts? Maybe.

00:02:26

Because the odds are they're going to be injured. That's why we're saying no.

00:02:29

But if you told me- Tony, get off that ledge, dude.

00:02:31

I said maybe. If you told me they were healthy, I'd say yes. I think they could win a series. They could win two series. They could win the East.

00:02:37

Who's the best bet besides the Celtics to get to the finals?

00:02:41

From the East?

00:02:41

Because as we've discussed all week long now, there is a reason. You can put the mic where you can just not have to make your face awkward. No, I just like to move it around. It gives me gravitas to move it wherever I'm going.

00:02:53

It's a power move.

00:02:54

Why does Zazin mean so close to you?

00:02:56

No, Zazlo's got the power move? He has a weird move. He He rests his arm atop his coffee. Why are you taking my coffee? Because I want to model your behavior. It's in my elbow. It's not dirty. Zazlo uses his own coffee thing. I do. To prop up his elbow. That's a power move. I do. Look how cash I am, everybody. We've discussed that the Celtics with trying to reintegrate Jason Tatum. I think it's a little overstated how hard it's going to be for that team that is pretty ripe. But if it's not the Celtics, mean? Who is it?

00:03:31

I mean, people are not going to like this answer. It's the Knicks. The Knicks are the most complete team.

00:03:36

They give you so much reason not to live during the regular season. But they did that last year, too.

00:03:41

They did that last year. They got their heads beaten by the Celtics every time they saw them. Then when they saw them in the playoffs, a lot of people are going to revision this history and say, Tatum got hurt. Tatum got hurt after it was over. It was like, this is it.

00:03:52

At the end of about to go down three-one.

00:03:54

Put them in the dirt. Yeah, it was like, put them in the dirt time. I think the Knicks have it all. Their thing is just, Hey, can we consistently defend when we have both towns and Brunson on the flood at the same time? Can towns really step up? Those are the question marks, but it's like, scoring? They've got scoring. Clutch scoring, they've got it. Rebounding? They've got it. Defense on the wings? They've got it. They've got everything. There's nothing that they lack in a way that I could say Detroit doesn't have shooting in a way that I could say, Well, I guess Cleveland now with Harden.

00:04:25

Cleveland's interesting.

00:04:26

It's just not going to be Detroit. We can eliminate them because As we've also discussed, the NBA is progressive. It's postseasons are in the sense that you do not come out of nowhere, make the postseason and make a deep.

00:04:39

Well, they got their small taste last year.

00:04:40

They got the taste last year. Now they went around or maybe even two.

00:04:44

Maybe even conference final.

00:04:45

They're not going to the final, so we can eliminate them as well.

00:04:48

The thing that concerns me about Detroit, because I think Detroit's great, but the thing that concerns me about Detroit is a little bit of what we saw earlier in the week when they played. I think it was San Antonio, right? They lost the game, but not just lost the game where Cunningham was 5-26. What's it going to look like when we get to the playoffs and the other team you're playing in a seven-game series is going to hone in on you on a nightly basis, that being Cade Cunningham, are you going to be able to find a way to still have great offensive nights?

00:05:22

I mean, it's going to be tough, right? Because if you get to double denying him on the ball, returning that back way. You have Jalen Duren, who's a monster Buster down low. I looked him up. He's incredible. He's good. Yeah, he's a very good player. Yeah, he's good. You told me to look him up, and I did, and he's good. Jalen Duren could be the key to unlocking. If he can reach that potential in the playoffs, and he can play the way that he's playing, double, double machine, maybe sprinkle in a 20 and 15 game here and there. That's the team that can throw it back to the old-school 2004 Pistons and really be a problem for teams that want to run and gun.

00:05:52

Because outside of K, to me, there's not a ton of offense on that team.

00:05:55

It's just no creation. It's There's no creation. It's no guy that if K is getting doubled and he throws it out, now this guy is attacking four on three and can make stuff happen. There's no guy that when Kade sits, I can run the offense, I can do this. I mean, yeah, Dennis Jenkins. It's like, these are not-Karis Lever can get a bucket. Yeah, but it's not enough to carry a team offense. Is that what we're talking about? We're talking about if I take Kade off the table, which is what a playoff team will do. That's what I'm talking about. A good playoff team is going to take him off the table. At that point, It's on someone else to make it hurt so bad that the defense goes back to, All right, let's say, Okay, get a couple. We'd rather that than hemorrhaging over here four on three or whatever it is. They don't really have that guy. If they have that guy, I don't have him as being experienced enough because a lot is decision making.

00:06:48

Duncan Robinson has plenty of experience, and you want to trust him in the playoffs. You certainly want to. You want to.

00:06:54

Big shot, Duncan.

00:06:55

I'm not letting you skate, though, Jeremy. Yeah, he's so happy. I'm not letting you get out of this. That's right. I haven't No one in here has forgotten.

00:07:00

You said skate. Those Panthers, huh?

00:07:02

Don't worry, we're going to get to that beat down.

00:07:04

That was a big dub. Big dub. Took that ass.

00:07:06

Took that ass last night. What did you think about that?

00:07:08

Don't deflect. No, no, no, Roy, don't take the bait. You're going to fall for the rope of dope. You're too smart for that. We're not getting to that yet. All right.

00:07:13

I'll wait on it.

00:07:14

Jeremy started the week, Don't let the Miami Heat win these games this week. And after we're feeling good about this team, post All-Star break, a three-game win streak, they lay a turd burger the other night, and they lay another turd burger tonight.

00:07:32

Wouldn't call last night turd burger.

00:07:33

It is a turd burger.

00:07:35

It is.

00:07:35

They took the lead with 2 minutes and 45 seconds left in the game. They didn't score again.

00:07:39

They were down 18.

00:07:40

All right. They came back from down 18 in the second half, and then we're up by one with two minutes left. And their guys made shots at home.

00:07:48

Win the game. Talking to me like this Philadelphia team's any good. Here's Bam at a bio. Listen to Bam.

00:07:54

Take it from Bam. He's frustrated.

00:07:56

Here's Bam after the game last night as the Miami Heat lose both the games that Jeremy warned everyone not to let the heat win.

00:08:04

I said, Don't let them win because I would become annoying.

00:08:07

Like I said, and Bam- But they lost, and you're still annoying.

00:08:10

We accomplished nothing.

00:08:11

I don't know what you're talking about.

00:08:11

Is very frustrated.

00:08:14

We didn't play hard enough. Okay.

00:08:17

Effort was the issue in the first half of the field?

00:08:19

Yeah. What changed in the second half with you guys?

00:08:22

We played harder. Obviously, you see the energy shift when we're playing harder, we're diving on the floor, and making multiple efforts.

00:08:31

This was a big game.

00:08:32

A lot of mistakes to it in the standing.

00:08:34

How do you explain that effort was an issue just in the first half? Early on in the first half, the game was some importance.

00:08:41

He didn't play hard enough, bro. I mean, I'm not explaining effort. I don't want to be in the game anymore. We're better than being in the playing every for the last four years.

00:08:54

See, that's the part I'll disagree with. If you're in that spot four straight years, I don't know that you're actually better than it.

00:09:01

That's who you are. It seems like- It's not one year, it's four years. Just from his tone, it seems like that's starting to wash over him. Thank God I got the raise as a part of this package as well, because I paid for this Miami Heats.

00:09:14

Oh, so when did you take the punch?

00:09:17

I did that. I wanted to believe. I saw the Norm Powell thing.

00:09:20

Was it when Jeremy said at the beginning of the week not to let the heat win both games?

00:09:22

No, I did it a couple of months into the season. I'm like, At a certain point, the Miami Hurricanes football season will end, and I'll need another distraction to get me to the next Miami Hurricanes football season, or at the very least, this time. Did it serve its purpose? No. I've seen three games, all of which Jeremy has been on the broadcast, and I haven't seen a single dub yet.

00:09:40

I feel like it's been a really long time. I don't have it in front of me. I feel like it's been a really long time since the heat have beaten a team that's good.

00:09:48

Yeah. Again- How's Jeremy doing? Hate being right about this. Hey, going back to the NBA. I'm really good.

00:09:55

I'm super into that. We're all in the NBA.

00:09:57

Yeah, but the rest of the NBA and teams that actually matter. You mentioned Cleveland. Yeah, let's do that. The acquisition of James Harden. Can I walk back my initial James Harden legacy takes? Because I actually think he's going to make a huge impact for this team, and it's because Garland wasn't giving them anything. So they just essentially added- No, they added James Harden for nothing. Yeah, and they did so with the intention of like, Man, we need somebody to help us get over the Knicks. Now, I only got a one-game sample, and James Harden did hurt his thumb. He intends to play through that.

00:10:23

He's questionable for the night.

00:10:26

So James Harden seems to have been a really big-time acquisition for the Cleveland Cavs, and I believe.

00:10:32

Well, didn't he just break his hands?

00:10:33

And I know what I'm saying. I'm coupling Cleveland and James Harden. Two irresistible forces are colliding that can't do anything in the playoffs, famously. That can't get over the- You're on a hot streak, Mike.

00:10:44

Bet on the leaves to win the Cup while you're at it. Why is James Harden suddenly, at whatever age he is, going to turn his entire career around and disprove all of it?

00:10:54

It's crazy enough that I think it might work. Because he's got better guys around him.

00:10:57

But also, you say- He's been on a lot of real good teams over the course.

00:11:00

Can I outsource my argument?

00:11:01

They were really good because of him.

00:11:03

I'm going to outsource my argument to a Me and L has and why this is crazy enough that it just might work.

00:11:08

It's like, yeah, he's been on a lot of really good teams because of him. They were good teams because of him, not because he joined a team already in progress that was good.

00:11:17

The Sixers were good because of James Harden.

00:11:20

The Sixers were good because when they were healthy, they were good. What happened was nobody was healthy. Nobody was healthy. And so So James Harden, his last playoff run with the Sixers, he was incredible until the last game. You know what people didn't ask about? Joel Embiid not being so great in that series. They don't talk about that because he's a lightning rod, Harden is. If you look at the best teams He was on with his Houston Rockets team. It was 100% because of him. So he's coming to this situation. He said, At his age, I would accept that if there were signs of deterioration. He's playing great. He's been playing great when he was with the Clippers. He's playing great as a Cav, but now He's being asked to do less than he probably was with the Clippers or even the Sixers before that. It's a much easier roll.

00:12:06

Maybe that is the trick. You're right. He doesn't have to carry the load.

00:12:09

Really quick, the last good team the Miami Heat beat was January 17th, where they beat the Thunder 122, 120.

00:12:16

That was a great game.

00:12:18

Yeah, this past three-game win streak for the Heat, they beat the Pelicans, the Hawks, and the Grizzlies.

00:12:23

They've got seven of their next eight at home. It's so funny because they've lost some of these games that are so frustrating. You're terrible in Milwaukee against Milwaukee. And yet at different times of the year, you beat the Thunder, you beat the Pistons, and you wonder what the team looks like at their upside. And then they have games like this where you get frustrated because you go and have such an opportunity this week to go get two on the road, put yourself in a good position. Don't let him. You don't. It's the reason why Bam is so frustrated. It's the reason why Eric Spolstra is saying to embrace the privilege of the pressure. But what it is, is now you got seven of eight at home, and a bunch of them are against bad teams. So if you don't take advantage now- Who they got tomorrow? On Sunday, they've got the Rockets. But then after that, it's like Brooklyn twice. I think they'll go to Charlotte, which is going to be actually a tougher game. But then there's Washington in there. They're going to face teams that matter here in the standings because they'll play Orlando in a week, too.

00:13:22

So there's all these teams that they're sitting right around. They'll get the struggling Lakers at some point. Hey, at least right now, if you're a heat fan, you're not a Lakers fan because you don't have Luka Donchik, LeBron James, Austin Reeves, and you're flailing.

00:13:35

They lost in the buzzer last night.

00:13:37

Flailing.

00:13:38

Mike, you know I have one rule to live by, right?

00:13:40

Don't place parlays on multiple long shots. Don't say a game is one when it hasn't hit triple zero.

00:13:46

Always drink your Jägermeister ice cold.

00:13:49

That's the rule.

00:13:50

Everything else is merely a suggestion. Everything else? Everything else.

00:13:54

Wearing clean underwear every day?

00:13:57

Well, that's just a personal decision.

00:13:58

Brushing your teeth?

00:14:00

Obviously smart, but not a rule.

00:14:01

Never PP on an electric fence.

00:14:03

Okay, maybe there are two rules, but the one that is 100% that I insist on completely, Jägermeister must be drank ice cold. Or don't drink it at all.

00:14:12

Damn, that's cold.

00:14:13

Exactly. You're finally starting to get it.

00:14:15

Drink responsibly. Jägermeister L'Core, 35% alcohol by volume, imported by Mass Jägermeister US, White Plains, New York. So the other day, I was fully in stay at home mode, had the left turns on, relaxing on the couch, long day, sweat pants, remote in hand, already planning which sporting event I was going to flip to next. Then a friend texted me, Nothing big. Hey, why don't we just have a small hang? And I said, Come on over, pal. I got the Miller lights on deck. I put out a bucket filled with ice cold, beautiful white cans of Miller light, and we had ourselves a Sunday. Next thing you know, the race is tight. Everybody's yelling at the TV. Don Lebatard. Our Panther Group Chat, we're confident against the lightning. This is a different team.

00:16:44

You're a Panther Group Chat, though.

00:16:46

No, I think...

00:16:47

No, but dude, you're so wrong on that. We've been terrified of this team forever. I think there's a different energy where the Panthers, they want the lightning. Stugatz. I want T-shirts made for this Panther run. What could be this Panther run?

00:17:00

Our Panther group chat, We're not afraid of the lightning. That's a tagline for World R 3. This is the Dan Levatard show with the Stugatz.

00:17:14

Can I tell you about the Lakers real quick?

00:17:21

Tell me about the Lakers.

00:17:22

I know we talked about it yesterday where they're not going to win a series. They're not going to win a first-run series. I'm amending what I just said there. They won't win a playoff game.

00:17:32

Oh, they're going to get sweat. Yep, they won't win a playoff game. I think it depends on who they play. I don't know if you could just outright say that. I guess any appointment.

00:17:39

Okay, well, right now, they're sixth in the West.

00:17:42

They're going to play the three.

00:17:43

Which means they would play Houston. Maybe it's Denver.

00:17:46

They can win games against Houston.

00:17:48

I think they're going to win zero playoff games this year.

00:17:52

If it's Denver, they're getting swept. I'm with you on that. If it's Houston, I think they can win a couple of games. If it's San Antonio, by the way, for that matter, I think they can win a couple of games.

00:17:59

I think Luka can have a in there and lead him to a victory.

00:18:01

I mean, at 41 last night, they still didn't win.

00:18:04

At the buzzer, though.

00:18:05

Dude, did you see Clint Capella with the clap back? I was so proud of him because I'm like, How do you respond to something like this? Do you do the usual thing? Like, Let's compare resumes.

00:18:19

Oh, it's meant as an insult to Clint Capella for sure.

00:18:21

No, for sure. But I'm like, How does Capella... I'm like, How's Capella going to respond? So if you don't know- I would think Capella would be- Let's set it up. Hold on. Let's set it up. The The report from Dave McMahon the other night is that DeAndre Ayton was yelling, They're trying to turn me into Clint Capella. And yes, as Zaz says, that's absolutely meant as a derogatory statement. I'm this, and you're trying to make me into this. It's way too easy.

00:18:45

Even though there's no evidence of him being this.

00:18:48

Yeah, or even being higher than Capella in terms of career achievement.

00:18:52

If you have the Lakers right now, would you roll the dice on what you think DeAndre Aiton could be, or would you take Clint Capella?

00:18:58

Prime Clint Capella? It's not just the Lakers. It's 30 NBA teams would say that, and probably a bunch of G League teams, and probably a bunch of international teams as well. Now, this arrives on Clint Capella's door. I said, Of course, you can't avoid it. Something like that is said. The social media is going to come to you. I was wondering, how do you respond? Do you do the resume thing? Do you talk about, Hey, man, you're the... And he hit him with the most... It's like, simultaneously, high road and got him right between the eyes. He says, You got two of the best floor generals in the league. Lock in. And it's perfect. It's like, Yo, this is the place of privilege you live in. You should be more focused on that than what a little old me is doing or what a little old me has done. It's awesome. I loved it. It's awesome.

00:19:52

I don't think they're going to win a single game. I don't think they're going to win a single playoff game this year. I don't think so.

00:19:57

The best part about Aiton is in that report It wasn't the Clint Capella thing.

00:20:01

There's so much in that story.

00:20:02

It was DA's Crunk Juice.

00:20:04

Yeah. You know of that Crunk Juice?

00:20:05

I have a hole about that Crunk Juice.

00:20:07

That apparently- I know you are. According to McMediman, the Lakers training staff wraps Aiton's water bottle and has it say, DA's Crunk Juice. Drink this to unleash the beast to keep him motivated. I've got JT's Crunk Juice right here. It's a nice latte.

00:20:23

It's like a little bit of, what's it called? Space Jam. My Secret stuff? Cocaine.

00:20:30

I didn't know what you were doing with the- That's sprinkler.

00:20:32

By the way, that Crunk Juice led to two points and four rebounds.

00:20:35

Dominating.

00:20:36

I like that Zazlo showed up. He's like, Why fix what ain't broke? I'm wearing the hat backwards to close out the week. And then he also makes a statement calling back to where we've been the last couple of days, you want to talk about Best American Band, Metallica. A lot of people hit me up about that, that that was a major omission collectively to not throw out Metallica. They don't make my list, but I guess they're worthy of consideration, right?

00:21:02

Like the gold standard, which we should have spent more time on, the Eagles, I think with some time to reflect on it, we probably should have worked on that.

00:21:11

I do want to get to that.

00:21:12

A little bit more just like Metallica, they were just casually mentioned. Metallica can lay claim to best American band. You mentioned The Grateful Dead. Yeah, I did. No. Number one, flatly, no. No.

00:21:27

They're basically just on the metal stand. The band that dominated summer touring for half a century. Reject them.

00:21:33

No, not really. You know who also draws a bunch? Fish. Fish also draws a bunch. No one's confusing them for the best ever. Yeah, Shakedown Street, great song. Shakedown Street. Yeah, awesome little ditty. The rest of them, just one big song.

00:21:47

They're disco years?

00:21:48

They're not even Silver or Gold medalists in the Bay Area.

00:21:52

You know about that Sugar Magnolia?

00:21:53

It's like Green Day and Metallica can take the Bay Area.

00:21:56

I was surprised that Green Day didn't come up.

00:21:58

Green Day, what you're throwing out here, Mike Ryan. Better band. Year of the Lord, 2026. Yes. Green Day over the Grateful Dead. Way better. I like Green Day a lot. They are not comparable to the Grateful Dead in terms of influence. In what sense? Inin terms of influence? In terms of influence, yes. What are you talking-Dominating for decades.

00:22:18

Deca influence, Trey Anastasia. What are you talking about?

00:22:21

Dominating for a decade. Wait a second. Wait a second. Influence? You know how many soundalikes came off of Green Day? Mm-hmm.

00:22:27

Literally every band that spawned after.

00:22:29

Soundalikes off of Green Day. Pop punk? I mean, what are we talking about? Yes. Dominated the area. They established pop punk for the world.

00:22:36

Influence is in the world. It's not about establishing. It's do I... When people start doing this, they're like, What got you into it? Like, Oh, Green Day. That's the idea. It's the same thing Michael Jackson. You said, You think Michael Jackson was like, What about James Brown? Those guys were all incredible.

00:22:52

I think your chronology is all out of whack, fellows. No. The Green Day does not emerge in a vacuum. It's not about chronology. The Seattle thing is already happening. Is Green Day? That's actually not true.

00:23:05

Dave, you know about that Duky?

00:23:07

I know about Duky. When does Duky happen?

00:23:10

Green Day and Nervana both had their first hits happen at the same time.

00:23:15

Early '90s, '91.

00:23:16

Early '90s, '91. Same time as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, for that matter.

00:23:19

Okay, so that's the same year.

00:23:20

Red Hot Chili Peppers also deserve a claim.

00:23:22

On the list, absolutely.

00:23:24

So what you're describing is a wave of sound winning, of adjacent sounds all emerging at once. In other words, Green Day was not a Trailblazer.

00:23:34

We all stand on the shoulders of giants. You don't have to Trailblaze.

00:23:38

Listen to Kareem over there.

00:23:40

If I influence millions of people to follow me, even if I ripped off my act from one guy that nobody heard of.

00:23:48

I'm not down on being derivative. I'm not saying that. I'm just saying if you're holding up Green Day as a massive influence for the next generation, it feels like you're taking it too far.

00:23:58

I don't want to park my car in your garage.

00:24:00

What garage are you in?

00:24:01

He's outside.

00:24:02

Well, also, what we failed to mention is, and I don't know how you separate the two, so I'm just entering them as one band, Alma Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd. That is in the conversation for best American band.

00:24:14

In the conversation, I don't care if you went one, two great American bands, you're going to- I think you got to answer them, no, as one.

00:24:19

They count on one line together.

00:24:22

But you're talking about them at the very top?

00:24:23

It still is R-E-M, number one. It's never been R-E-M. You can argue that all you want.

00:24:28

R-e-m is the- Who are they influencing? It's all right, it's all right. You're right. I'm just trying to be a saint. Who are they?

00:24:32

It's available. Listen, you guys say it into a microphone, then people listen on the other end and they go, Boy, Amine is right. They really didn't influence anybody. Then you go online and You can look up a wealth of quotes from Kurt Cobain and Eddie Vetter that I started to tell you yesterday. They cite R-E-M as their influence.

00:24:55

Your point yesterday was that they are influential. College radio. That was your point yesterday.

00:25:00

No, no, no, no, no. I also mentioned by name, Kurt Cobain and Eddie Vedder. And I should throw in Tom York of radio.

00:25:07

Where's Kurt Cobain now?

00:25:09

Oh, man.

00:25:11

Too soon. I mean, plenty of people cite Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen as influences.

00:25:16

Three of the biggest bands that were in the last 40 years cite R. E. M. As their influence, and that's not influencing them.

00:25:25

What are you talking about? Everybody cites Bob Dylan, and Bob Dylan sucks.

00:25:29

I I don't know what that has to do with anything.

00:25:32

Because the crux of your argument is that they inspired so many people. They were this influential band. Bob Dylan influenced many, and he sucks.

00:25:41

And so is that what you're putting that R. E. M. On Bob Dylan's level?

00:25:45

No, I like R. E. M. More than I like Bob Dylan because Bob Dylan sucks.

00:25:49

Totally. I'm not going to fight you on Bob. I'm not wild for Bob Dylan. But what I have said, I don't think you were here, Mike. We did talk about the Eagles. And by the way, it's properly eagles, not the eagles. It's talking heads. Really? Also, they are, to me, the classic. They are the personification of a system band. Just as you have a system QB, Alex Smith doesn't work in every NFL environment. But if you get him in the right spot, boy, does he sing? Same thing goes with the eagles.

00:26:23

See?

00:26:24

System of a down. I think in a sentence, you can say it, right?

00:26:28

Golden Hour in Southern California You're driving around. That's your soundtrack.

00:26:31

Hey, System of a Down had an opportunity, but they went away. Just like Rage had an opportunity. Where's Rage when you need them most?

00:26:37

Just like Nervona had an opportunity, then they went away. What happened there?

00:26:40

Well, come on. You're asking the right question. You're asking the right questions. You classified the files.

00:26:44

What about Imagine Dragons?

00:26:46

Oh, my God. What about Nickelback?

00:26:50

I wanted that. That was a joke. Nickelback's Canadian. It's a shame because they'd be there, too.

00:26:55

Here's the real mindbender. What do we do with Fleetwood Mac?

00:26:59

They're Why not?

00:27:01

Why not? They're great. Stevie and Lindsay. That's the two names I can make. Basically, everybody's American except for the dude that the band's named after.

00:27:10

Where did they record their first album?

00:27:13

Is that how you do it?

00:27:14

It's got to be Calleigh. I think it counts.

00:27:16

Where you recorded your first album? Yeah. That sounds like such a weird prere-req.

00:27:21

I do think you can be an American band with members that aren't exclusively American. As long as you're based in the US.

00:27:28

The band is named after Mick Fleetwood, who is not American. They're not an American band.

00:27:33

Why don't they call Fleetwood Mick?

00:27:38

Jeremy would hate that band.

00:27:40

Look, for me, obviously, I have Pearl Jam, Very, very close to the very top. Metallica also has to be mentioned. We're talking about a band here who is still at the peak of their powers over 40 years after they started.

00:27:56

What does peak of their powers mean?

00:27:58

They still tour the world and sell out stadium. Who did R.

00:28:01

E. M. Influence is the craziest question to ask, rhetorically or otherwise, when I can tell you who they are. And then Mike Ryan's response is like, meh. I mean, who are they? I know who are Nervana and Pearl Jam and Radiohead. Who are they?

00:28:15

Here's who are they.

00:28:15

Three of the biggest bands we've seen.

00:28:17

What are you talking about? R. E. M. Influence Matchbox 20. They influence Train. Now we're talking. They influence Gin Blossoms. They influence every soft rock. One Republic loves R. E.

00:28:28

Pearl Jam yielded Creed. Are we supposed to hold that against them?

00:28:32

Are you saying that as an insult, brother? Because you're off base. Okay, Nikola, quizfrage. Homeoffice Bastado or Fadenkosten.

00:28:41

Was bringt uns mehr? Moment. Ich check das kurz. Oh, I've never stepped foot on that campus.

00:29:10

If you told me right now your life depends on it, go to Santa Fe University and just take a picture.

00:29:16

I would die.

00:29:18

I don't know where it is.

00:29:18

This is the Dan Levatard show with the Stugatz.

00:29:30

I'm talking to the wrong crowd, I think.

00:29:33

Yeah, you should be talking to a crowd that hasn't heard of Mariah Carey, apparently. I still haven't gone over that.

00:29:39

One of the worst takes is Ethan's Foo Fight. Oh, my God. Dave Groll's third best band cannot be the biggest American band.

00:29:45

Ethan tried to tell me last night that Foo Fight was way bigger than both Green Day and Red Hot Chili Peppers. He's an insane person. I said, What are you talking in terms of what? He's like, In terms of sales? I said, What's their biggest song? He's like, My Lord or whatever. I was like, All right, let's look up the charts. They were like, fourth on the billboard hot rock chart or modern rock chart. I said, Okay, let me pull up Green Day. I don't even know if that's the biggest song, Boulevard of Broken Dreams. I said, You see these lists of ones here? Every single chart imaginable. How do you even arrive at a point where you think Foo fighters is a bigger act? I'm not saying you might like them better. It's all good. Preference is preference.

00:30:23

That's right. We're not talking... The goal here isn't to-My favorite band. Show your hipster bonafides. It's about- To deep dive in.

00:30:31

What's the biggest-influ.

00:30:32

That's what you're doing, though.

00:30:34

R. E. M. Is not my favorite band of all time. Oh, shut up.

00:30:37

You locked. They're your favorite. They're your absolute favorite. Where would the Fray be without R. E.

00:30:43

M. Oh, my God. The greatest album of all time is OK Computer. I love Radiohead. Led Zeppelin is probably number one of all time, but RM is in my top four or five bands.

00:30:54

I just imagine Dave Damoschek, sophomore in college in Indiana, with his big the Discman that you can't- What's a frequency, Kenneth?

00:31:02

1971.

00:31:03

It's a walkman.

00:31:03

It's a walkman. It's with the orange- Shock absorber. The orange foam on the earbud, the headphones. And then it's the yellow walkman, the sport walkman. Remember those? Oh, yeah.

00:31:14

It get a little bit wet. You all right?

00:31:15

Yeah, you get a little wet. You put your cassette in, your audio cassette in, shiny happy people, and just walking down campus.

00:31:22

Shame on you. So the worst song by a band that has a catalog that runs for days, I They have to hold that against. They could not hold BC Boys' John. Because I can find some bad Beatles songs, too.

00:31:35

Bc Boys, way better than Ario. Bc Boys, way better.

00:31:39

Listen- Evolved their sound? I went to see both of them More than once. I've seen all these bands we're talking about live, by the way. How old am I? You saw that Zeblin? I saw Smashing Pumpkins, Open for Nervana. I saw Rage Against the Machine many times. I've seen Tribe many times. Johnny Cash.

00:31:58

Tribe called Chris?

00:32:00

The best live band I've ever seen, Fishbone. You ever catch Fishbone in their prime?

00:32:05

Oh, Jesus Christ. You've clearly never seen the history band. I've never heard of that.

00:32:07

You've never heard of Fishbone?

00:32:08

I don't know what that is.

00:32:09

I had to look up R-E-M. I'll be honest with you. Now I'm beginning to realize Dave was probably the senior in my dorm when I was a freshman at Georgia Tech, because I know exactly. I'm not you.

00:32:19

How much weight did they buy from Dan?

00:32:20

Rambling wreck from Georgia Tech. Don't try to win me over. I thought I could get you back in the garage.

00:32:26

Going back to Green Day, they have the most impactful rock rock album of this century. If you have the most impactful rock album of the century in which you exist, you've got to be in the top five at the very least of American.

00:32:39

I can say things out loud. It doesn't make them true.

00:32:41

100% of any band, like American Idiot, Based on what?

00:32:46

You were about to say the monkeys.

00:32:47

Based off of American- You were about to say the monkeys. Sales, political influence, all of it. Ramy Awards, recognition. It spawned a musical. I'm not the biggest Green Day guy. I like the band, but even I can acknowledge that Germany is making really good points here.

00:33:01

I'm also surprised the Beach Boys haven't come up.

00:33:03

Beach Boys are a great one, and that is a quintessential American sound.

00:33:06

I want Dave to go down the path that he stopped right there, where he was about to say something about the Monkeys as a band. I was not going to say Greg Odio.

00:33:13

Hey, hey, we're the monkey. Please, baby. How come if we're talking all-time great American bands, which is a conversation that goes back to yesterday?

00:33:23

Ramones, by the way.

00:33:24

You got to mention Aerosmith at some point. I know you did. Yes, you do.

00:33:29

Aerosmith was mentioned at some point yesterday. I mentioned it. Aerosmith have had one of the more fascinating career traject ever because they were essentially a one-hit wonder, and they went away for about a decade. Run DMC brought them back, a little bit of a lull. Then when they were all old guys, they just dominated radio and MTV.

00:33:46

Get a Grip then came out early '90s.

00:33:48

Just single after single after single.

00:33:50

The Armageddon Soundtrack.

00:33:51

For me, on the bar mitzvah circuit, early '90s, crying from Get a Grip. Oh, was played at every I even like pink.

00:34:02

But the song, I'm not going to say it. Pink. No, a different pink, the song. Oh, a different pink.

00:34:08

Aerosmith had a massive comeback.

00:34:10

This is a very two Americas conversation.

00:34:13

Yes, it is. But for the record, Aero Smith, all of that new life, second life that they got, Janey got a gun and all that crap.

00:34:21

A incredible song.

00:34:22

Janey's got a gun. No, I'm sorry. I don't want to veer in the- You're about to say a sound incredible song? All All that music sucked. All that- Coming from a R. E.

00:34:32

M. Guy.

00:34:34

I thought you liked soft radio hits.

00:34:37

I thought you liked the dog contemporary radio hits.

00:34:40

What I am now learning is over these last eight minutes, these torturous eight minutes, is that Mike Ryan has never actually heard much R. E.

00:34:51

M. I heard Monster. What's the frequency, Kenneth? I like that. Orange Crush. Shiny Happy People's weird. Everybody hurts. I know all about R. E.

00:35:01

M. Life's Rich Pad.

00:35:02

I had a Batman soundtrack.

00:35:04

Go listen to Life's Rich. What's Batman have to do with any of it?

00:35:09

Look, Batman is- Kissed by a Rose.

00:35:11

What are you confusing R. E. M. With seal?

00:35:14

Why I want to know what's the...

00:35:16

I mean, you talk about two Americas, this conversation, Aero Smith. You got to realize that one America helped out the other America. Yes. Aero Smith owes everything to the other America.

00:35:28

Can we narrow this down to four I want to put this on Twitter. But also, Roy- Can we come up with four so people can vote on what is the best American band? It's an interesting point, Roy, because one hand washed the other in a way because it really did help hip hop hop in general. It surfaced one of the more prominent bands. So one of the more- Beach Boys, Metallica.

00:35:53

Are we putting R. E. M?

00:35:54

R. E. M. Because he said- Actually, we should add them to the list so Dave can see what he Add them to the list so Dave can see exactly what he did. So what would be the four?

00:36:02

Put them in there. If we're doing those three. Those are three.

00:36:04

As is always true, recency is going to win in a conversation like this. Who's the fourth fan? You guys don't even know what R. E. M. Music sounds like. How are you making a vote for them? Is that four fine? Just for voting?

00:36:15

Beach Boys, Metallica, Green Day, R. E.

00:36:17

M. I mean, it's not fine to me, but it's okay for the Great.

00:36:21

How are you not... I mean, to not include the Grateful Dead is loco.

00:36:25

We're not including Tom Petty. I mean, is this list okay?

00:36:28

That's a solo. I mean, it's a Very, very white list, but I guess we're going to have to go.

00:36:32

Northwind and Fire? Extremely whitelist there.

00:36:35

We can do the-Temptations? One America and then do a pull for the other America.

00:36:38

We're forgetting about eagles. We're forgetting about eagles. All right, Green Day is off.

00:36:42

All right, Green Day, gone. So on, you're up.

00:36:46

I'm not going to talk about recency bias. Temptations, look them up.

00:36:49

Don't tell me about the temptations, man. All right.

00:36:52

While you figure out how we want to pose the question on Twitter, and while Jeremy continues to skate warning everybody at the beginning of the week- To get ass. To not allow the Miami heat.

00:37:04

Just one more thing on R. E. M. One more thing on R. E. No, one more thing here. If the best song that you ever made in Losing My Religion was covered better on Glee than your original version, That means you're probably not the greatest American band.

00:37:17

Once again, Tashay, mistaking, saying something out loud to an equaling the truth. That's not your best song. He does that a lot, by the way. That's nothing to do with reality. That's their best song. According to whom? Somebody who hasn't heard any of their other songs?

00:37:31

This guy never tells the truth.

00:37:33

How about your favorite little hockey team last night? Taking that ass in sunrise last night, right from the get-go, just three minutes into the game, your boy, your favorite Panther, our favorite Panther, everybody's favorite Panther, Panther legend, Brad Marshan, gets the scoring started last night. The Panthers go up 3-0. A couple of empty net goals later, a pair of goals for Marshan after hitting the post on a wide open empty net. Very embarrassing. A 5-1 victory for your Panthers.

00:38:05

That's what I'm talking about. How about your boy, Evan Rodriguez, man? Nine shots on goal, seven in the first. Boca Grande.

00:38:12

What a game he had last night. His first shorty of his career. So the Panthers know they play again tonight, though. Sabers.

00:38:21

He never had a shorty before?

00:38:23

He never had a shorty. Shorties are awesome.

00:38:25

I know. Shorties everywhere, man. Come on. Got to get some shorties.

00:38:27

He's also last night. Davey You saw some of his pants. Dave, you know about them shorties?

00:38:31

Heard of it?

00:38:32

Lines. I'm trying to go tonight to the Panthers. I'll be there. You are? I'm trying to... I don't know if you know this. When I'm trying to go to a game, that means I'm looking for the hookup. All right? If I was going to buy tickets or say I'm going to buy tickets. But I'm trying to go to the game tonight. Whenever I'm trying to go to something, it could be a game, it could be a concert. If I'm trying to go, that means I'm looking for the hookup.

00:38:57

I thought Ethan had tickets. Why are you trying to go? You're going You're on the wrong game tonight. There is one game to go to. The team with the nation's longest win streak is playing the team with the second longest win streak in the nation. The team that is scoring more runs than anybody in the nation is hosting its arch rival in baseball. Don't get it twisted. You may be able to argue FSU and other sports, but when it comes to baseball, it is Florida undeniably. Florida, Miami, at the light. What are you doing? You shouldn't be anywhere else.

00:39:27

I admitted this to you guys last week. Somehow it did make it to air. And it'll be a very shameful revelation right now. I told you guys last week, I have never been to the light.

00:39:38

Got to get one of those milkshakes, man.

00:39:39

I've never been to the light.

00:39:41

To the what? You never been to the light?

00:39:43

Mark Light Stadium is where the hurricanes It's Alex Rodriguez Field at Marke Light Milkshakes, by the way, which is why courts and fields don't matter. Mark Light Stadium is where the Miami Hurricanes baseball play. It's a very famous stadium as far as South Florida goes. They very famously have Great milkshakes. The milkshakes there are the way to go. It's essentially a landmark down here. Famous? I've never been.

00:40:07

Famously?

00:40:08

I'm fascinated by- I'm fascinated by.

00:40:10

Yeah, locally, it's famous.

00:40:11

I'm surprised, but I guess that's probably part of the region's laws for a sports fan. But I'm surprised Zaz doesn't catch more flak. I root for two college football and college basketball teams, Indiana and Pitt, grew up in one, matriculated at the other. I'm fascinated by Zaz, arch-rivals. You go to Florida, but you root for the U.

00:40:31

I did not go to Santa Fe.

00:40:33

I'm surprised you guys don't get on it. I was smart.

00:40:35

I went to University. I was smart.

00:40:37

Not like dumb. We forgot about the Jonas Brothers. Oh.
