ALDI. Gutes für alle. The conference final picture is a lot clearer after last night. We have Brad Williams on to talk about the Ducks season. Plus, we give our reviews for Prime Videos Off Campus.

00:00:39

Oh yeah!

00:00:40

This is The Hockey Show. David Drogan, Hockey News, is to my left. We have Rosie and Ethan as well. My name is Roy Balmy. This is The Hockey Show. The Maple Leafs are still in the news as they fired their head coach Craig Berube. The Chief had a long, tiring, just a bad, bad season for himself, which of course included him getting injured at the gym. His head got cracked open. I, I still don't know how that happened. Maybe a dumbbell fell on his head or whatever.

00:01:22

I think that's probably—

00:01:24

that's probably what happened. Yeah. So second worst team in the conference. They were the worst team in the Atlantic Division and fifth worst in the league, I believe. But yet they felt their way up to the top and now have the number one overall pick via the draft lottery. And because you have a new general manager, of course, the head coach is pretty much sacrifice in that situation. Uh, why don't you describe what's going on in Toronto right now, Dave?

00:01:53

It's a lot in flux right now. I have to wonder, is John Tchaika and Mats Sundin gonna have to give Auston Matthews the same kind of treatment that Connor McDavid had got the last couple summers in Edmonton when they were trying to convince him to stick around and stick with the team, see what happens, we got something, we're gonna get a goalie, we promise. Like, what's Toronto gonna do? Like they've got to and they look, they've got a good pitch right now. Look, we're rebuilding a little, not rebuilding, but the front office is being rebuilt.

00:02:18

Not a little bit either.

00:02:19

I don't think they have a great pitch.

00:02:22

Look, they've got talent. They've got Gavin McKenna coming in. They've got—

00:02:27

we think, we don't know for sure. Like what if Cheka takes somebody else?

00:02:30

Are you serious?

00:02:31

Are you serious?

00:02:32

Yes, I'm serious.

00:02:33

We don't know.

00:02:34

Like there are— there is debate out there that Gavin McKenna might not be assuredly the number 1 overall pick this year.

00:02:40

Is that debate being put out by people who aren't picking number 1? Yeah. I mean, I saw The Athletic.

00:02:44

I mean, again, it's up to the Maple Leafs, but I saw The Athletic put out their rankings and they had Gavin McKenna 4th. So I think there is some dispute that it could not be Gavin McKenna. I think they should take Gavin McKenna. I think any GM that passes on Gavin McKenna will be fired within 3 years. But John Cheka, we, you know, he's, he's that guy. Like, he might do something zany, you know what I mean?

00:03:07

Yeah, well, Rosie does put up a good question. Who do they have first? I mean, obviously they're gonna have to try to fill a hole, but What hole is that?

00:03:15

No, they've got, they've got a lot of questions to answer in Toronto. And I mean, look, it's the most, arguably the most popular franchise in the world, most profitable. They've got a lot of things going for them. It's just the hockey on the ice has been a struggle. And we talked about it last week. Like, it's not like Toronto hasn't had any success. Like, they've had some success, but similarly to Edmonton, they had, they can't get over the hump. And when you're putting all that kind of resources into it and you've got that kind of following and you're in that kind of cauldron, It's tough.

00:03:41

Uh, another firing happened, uh, this one happened yesterday as the Edmonton Oilers fired head coach Chris Knobloch, and the way they handled it, handled it was not good. Uh, Frank Saravalli reported that the Oilers this week, uh, asked the Golden Knights for permission to interview Bruce Cassidy, who they fired a couple of weeks before the playoffs. They replaced him with John Tortorella, who, uh, we'll get to that in a little bit, by the way. After what happened last night. But yeah, Chris Knopflok was still the head coach at that time. So it seems to me that they kind of did things ass backwards there. I don't know, maybe it's the— like, I would like them to be a little bit more professional there, do one thing first instead of, you know, the other thing, which was look for a new coach. But hey, when you've been to back-to-back Stanley Cup championships and then you bow out in the first round, I guess time's up there for Chris Knobloch.

00:04:38

Ah, it just was so horribly handled, Roy. Like, you, you kind of hit the nail on the head. Like, if you want to move on, fine, then move on. Don't leave the guy blowing in the wind while you're trying to look for another guy. Like, this is supposedly a team that's going to treat their guys well. Chris Knobloch was their guy, and the way that they treated him in a very public way, not cool at all. Like, I would imagine that it would put a pause in some people's head when they're thinking about looking into places to work. Like, I mean, look, it's the NHL, so jobs are going to get picked up really quick. But like, that's not a cool way to treat somebody who at that moment, that was your guy.

00:05:11

Well, the other thing is maybe they fired the wrong guy. Maybe they should have gone a little bit above and maybe Stan Bowman should have gotten the ax there.

00:05:19

This is what I don't get, Roy, is are they really going to let Stan Bowman make another hire? Are they really going to give him another offseason of the Connor McDavid window? Like, he failed. Miserably this year. The Tristan Jarry trade was a disaster. Even worse looks like trading Brett Kulak, who just scored the overtime winner to send the Colorado Avalanche to the Western Conference Final for the— yeah, I mentioned the Colorado Avalanche. Sorry, I'm all over the place back here right now. But anyway, are they really going to let Stan Bowman make another hire here? They can't. I don't think they can do it. And it seems like they're going to. Now, when it comes to the handling of the Knobloch firing, like, this is kind of what happens in the NHL. I mean, earlier this year, we saw two coaches get fired and their replacements were immediately hired. There weren't interim coaches. John Tortorella immediately replaced Bruce Cassidy, and Pete DeBoer immediately replaced Patrick Roy on the Island. So, like, this is kind of what they do in the NHL right now. It happened to Leek. I think the team that handled the situation worse was Vegas, who will not let Edmonton interview Bruce Cassidy, which is like standard operating procedure in the NHL, and it's just, to me, that's another example of Vegas just doing things the wrong way.

00:06:31

Vegas doesn't believe in standard operating procedure. We've established that.

00:06:35

No, and that's why they're on to their 5th Western Conference Final in their 9 years of existence.

00:06:40

That's a good point.

00:06:41

That's some petty divisional stuff, probably, I think. Just not gonna let them have permission to interview a coach for the rival. But yeah, that's just, that's just not— and going into Edmonton's probably the most important offseason since the last one because this was a showy season for Connor McDavid as he starts his extension this upcoming season. I mean, what are we doing here?

00:07:08

I think that I read this is going to be the 6th coach for McDavid and Draisaitl in what, 9, 10 years? 14 and 15 they came in.

00:07:16

Jay Woodcroft was one of them. Yeah. And he probably should be interviewed over in Toronto as well.

00:07:23

Yeah, he's on, um, who's coaching staff? He's on Anaheim's, right?

00:07:27

Yes.

00:07:28

He's with Q. Yeah.

00:07:29

Yeah, I don't think he's, I don't think he's going to go anywhere.

00:07:32

We've spent way too much time on two Canadian teams that are not in the playoffs anymore.

00:07:35

Thank you for telling me how to run the show, Ethan. That's great. Thank you. Thank you. Uh, as we go into the playoffs though, Uh, speaking of the Golden Knights, they eliminated the Ducks last night to advance to the Western Conference Final for the 5th time in a 9-year history. Did not hang around Anaheim too long for, uh, to talk to the media. However, John Tortorella decided it was, uh, time to go. He didn't talk to the media. He sent one guy to a side room to talk to the media, and Mitch Marner and Brett Howden went into the media room and spoke quickly in the podium because They didn't want to miss the bus, and they made that very clear. Yeah, and that sort of move right now is just indicative of how Vegas respects the media, which is not a lot of respect. And this gives us a chance to allow David to go on a rant because David is a part of the Professional Hockey Writers Association, and he did not like this move one bit. Dave, Yell.

00:08:36

Me no like. No, no, like, all right, thank you, Rose. No, like, what are we doing? Like, it's standard operating procedure, and this is the playoffs. This isn't just like a regular season game in December or some bullshit like that. This is the— not only is it the playoffs either, they clinched the second round. They're going to the conference finals, and the head coach who was hired a week before the playoff starts, one of the most controversial coaches who just led his team to the conference finals, You're not gonna speak to the media. You're gonna push your players through the media room because I'm gonna leave you if you're not on the bus by 10:57. Like, what are we doing, man? I'm gonna calm down for a second.

00:09:11

No, you can keep yelling.

00:09:13

No, I think our buddy Mark Spector put it pretty well. Ethan, if you have that tweet, can you put it up, please? Spec basically put out there that— here it is— like clockwork, when Tortz moves on, he'll be a media panel talking, taking a media paycheck from a media outlet. He'll have time for the media then, but he just doesn't need them right now is all. Yeah, like, is that like totally hitting the nail on the head? Like, dude, fulfill your obligations. Like, it was last week when we were talking about how we hadn't had a Torts moment yet since he arrived in Edmonton that had been very quiet— or since he arrived in Vegas, excuse me— had been very quiet.

00:09:44

Yep.

00:09:45

Here we go, the Torts show is on.

00:09:47

This is a, this is a thing where the league and, you know, the PW— the PHWA kind of is in lockstep when it comes to actual journalism and talking to these players. You need to go into the locker room within 5 minutes of, you know, the final horn. You know, that's what's— that's usually the mandate. That doesn't necessarily happen, though.

00:10:08

No, but the door opens always and there's players available. Like, even the Panthers, to their credit, like, the locker room might be empty except for the 3 guys that are going to talk, but they're there and they talk. Win, loss, whatever. Like, they give you guys at the podium, they give you guys at scrums, and that's what most teams are supposed to do. That's the way— it's the reason that the league and the PHWA have an agreement. Like, that's why the PHWA gets to vote. Like, that's a— it's a mutual beneficial thing that they have going on. So no, this is not cool. I'm sure the PWA president Steve Wino is not happy with what he saw. Bill Daley for the NHLPA, probably not happy with what he saw. It's just not good all around. And Tortz just doesn't give a shit.

00:10:43

Yeah, it's just not a good look. And it makes us media people not happy and complain on our platform like we just did. I mean, that's content right there for us. And of course you're not happy because if you're a reporter going into these situations, you're looking to write a story, you're looking to get a subject, and you're denied that. Your job is kind of affected by that, isn't it?

00:11:08

Yeah, well, for sure. If you're, if you're going into a postgame situation with certain expectations that are, you universally met across the board, regular season, playoffs, and you're preparing to do your job based off of that. And then all of a sudden it's like, oh no, you're not getting any quotes. You're not going to get to ask these guys about this. You can't ask the coach how this feels. None of that. Like, you still get the job done, of course. But no, it totally throws a wrench into the gears and it's just unprofessional. It's not cool.

00:11:31

One of the major awards has already been decided. It was a pretty easy one. It was Matthew Shafer of the New York Islanders. He is Rookie of the Year. He won the Calder Trophy. In fact, it was unanimous.

00:11:41

Yeah. First Calder Trophy for a defenseman in like 100 years, right, Rose?

00:11:47

Oh, I was wrong about that, but I called it. I called it.

00:11:50

Yeah, you did call it. So did I.

00:11:52

You gotta get Rose the Matthew Schneider jersey.

00:11:54

Roy, but you know puck. I don't. So for me—

00:11:56

Oh, you want me to be impressed? Is that what's going on?

00:11:58

Yeah, that's a milestone for me. Well, you— I don't care if you're impressed.

00:12:01

I am impressed. Oh, yes you do. Yes you do, because you complained about it, Rosie.

00:12:04

I am impressed of myself. Right, David and Ethan?

00:12:08

I think he did good.

00:12:09

I was impressed with you, Russ.

00:12:10

Well, congratulations. 198 PHWA members voted him first place. That's the first time that has happened unanimously since Teemu Selänne won the Calder Trophy in 1992-93. And that for that season, he scored like 1,000 goals that year. Yeah. Yeah. He had the rookie record. But it was 50 members back then. Now it's like it. Almost. It's—

00:12:35

well, inflation.

00:12:36

Yeah, inflation. It was an easy decision. I mean, 23 goals, tied a record for most goals by a rookie defenseman. He was also the first defenseman in more than 90 years to lead rookies in all positions in goals. It was well deserved. And I think that's what Rosie meant by 100 years there. Led the league in all positions, for all positions in rookies. For most goals in a season—

00:13:02

I just noticed I was like trying to give Rose a little hand motion off camera and then I saw my hand just like in your camera shot so I apologize for that.

00:13:09

Yeah, that's okay but no, I'll do it right now!

00:13:12

It's gonna make her very happy look look at this Johnny!

00:13:17

Oh my god, I'm in!

00:13:19

All right well congratulations!

00:13:21

My God he's in!

00:13:23

Barkov's playing today oh oh if you already had an assist?

00:13:27

Lundell for a goal!

00:13:28

No, we did that right now.

00:13:29

Yeah, yeah, yeah, the World Championships.

00:13:33

Can you put that again here?

00:13:35

We cannot do that right now, but yes, it's happening in Switzerland.

00:13:40

My sister lives there. I'm going to Switzerland and she could be watching Barky right now. Uh, she's in Austria right now.

00:13:46

Austria?

00:13:47

That's, that's in Germany.

00:13:49

Austria.

00:13:49

That's Austria.

00:13:50

That's a country.

00:13:51

That's a country. Austria.

00:13:53

I'm gonna show you, I'm gonna try your history and countries and you show me Uh, hockey.

00:13:57

I'm glad you were listening to that segment. We just officially gave you props there, so congratulations there, Rosie. Good job.

00:14:03

And where do you give him props?

00:14:05

I, I know, like 5 minutes ago when you were busy paying attention to Alexander Barkov and the world champion.

00:14:10

Shaffer props.

00:14:11

At least you're watching hockey, at least. And that's, that's very good.

00:14:14

She's distracted about hockey.

00:14:15

Like, that's, that's—

00:14:17

speaking of hockey, the Montreal Canadiens are up 3-2 in their series against the Buffalo Sabers. The Vegas Golden Knights, the Colorado Avalanche eliminated the Minnesota Wild in a great series the other night. Like, we gonna talk about that at all?

00:14:33

No, it's time for Puck Luck. It's sponsored by DraftKings. DraftKings, the crown is yours. David, go ahead.

00:14:38

All right, so I don't have the odds yet because they have— it's for tomorrow. There's no games tonight. But I've got the 3 plays for you, and I think it's gonna be a good one. First, we're gonna take the Montreal moneyline. They've been the best, better team in the series. I think Buffalo looks defeated. They look— it looks like their youth is showing, Roy. They're just taking silly penalties and Montreal just looks like more of a veteran team, which is interesting because Buffalo's got the more veteran coach. But I'm taking the Montreal moneyline. I'm also going to take Habs goaltender Jakub Dobysz over saves. It's probably going to be in the 25 to 27 range, but I imagine Buffalo is going to continue to put a lot of rubber on him. He's been really good in this series on the whole, obviously in their wins. Hey, oh, so I'm going to take Dobysz over saves. And then finally, I'm going to take Rasmus Dahlien over 2.5 shots on goal. He's been ripping puck. This entire series. I think he's gone over this in all but one game. So I'm going to take those three, and I'm going to guess it's going to be like in the +400 to +500 range.

00:15:31

But either way, it seems like a smart play for what will probably be the last game of the Eastern Conference semifinals.

00:15:38

All right, well, there you go.

00:15:39

There I go.

00:15:39

There you go. That's puck luck. That's sponsored by DraftKings. DraftKings, the crown is yours. It's time for the Hockey Stat of the Week. The Hockey Stat of the Week.

00:15:52

Hey guys. How's it going? What's up, E?

00:15:56

Hey!

00:15:56

Didn't realize you were here.

00:15:57

So I know I said I wanted to talk about the playoffs, which I do still, and, and I think, you know, the playoffs have been really exciting. But we are going to go back to a non-playoff team here and one that we talked about earlier, the Edmonton Oilers. Guys, this is according to Michael Amato on Twitter. This will be Ryan Nugent Hopkins' 10th coach in 15 NHL seasons when the Oilers hire a new coach this offseason. He's played for the same team his entire career.

00:16:26

That's kind of crazy.

00:16:27

The Oilers have had 10 coaches in 15 seasons, and I know coaching tenures in the NHL are shorter than they've ever been, but 10 coaches in 15 years with the same organization is insane. There's been no stability in Edmonton since Ryan Nugent Hopkins has been there.

00:16:42

Oof.

00:16:43

That's bad, man. That's not good.

00:16:45

I'm looking back to see how many coaches the Panthers have had since they drafted Sasha Barkov.

00:16:51

Ah, it's going to be up there. He might have a bunch, to be fair to him.

00:16:54

Markov was what, 2013 or 2014? 2013. 2013?

00:16:58

Ekblad was 2014.

00:16:59

Okay.

00:17:00

DeBoer was the border?

00:17:01

No, DeBoer was pre-Denine. DeBoer was 2011. He was out. So Barky had Horacek, Gallant, Tom Rowe, Bob Budner, Joel Quenville, Andrew Burnett, and Paul Murray. So that's 7.

00:17:12

That's a good amount, man.

00:17:14

That's still plenty of coaches.

00:17:15

That's 7 coaches with having the same one for the last 4 years.

00:17:18

Yeah, well, all right, Ethan, you have the floor. You have at least 3 minutes.

00:17:24

I have at least 3 minutes to what, talk about the playoffs?

00:17:27

Yes.

00:17:28

Wow, guys, listen, I'm really intrigued by— first of all, I'm really intrigued by this upcoming Vegas-Colorado series because Vegas is playing better than they have all year. And this is kind of finally like the Vegas that we expected to see, right? They're playing like a team that is a legitimate Stanley Cup contender. Now, how much of that is playing against the Utah Mammoth and the Anaheim Ducks, I'm not really sure. But they've gotten better in each series so far as the series has progressed, and they certainly got better from the first round to the second round. They dominated the Ducks in the last few games through that series, and including the closeout game last night. I think they can give Colorado a shot. I don't think they'll win the series or even come close to it necessarily, but it will be a really interesting series because like Mike was saying on the show earlier today, Vegas has some elite defensive forwards that will be on the ice at all times. Now in Montreal, Buffalo, really intrigued by this one as well. I think Montreal goes into, uh, Center Bell in Game 6 and closes out the Sabers.

00:18:24

The Sabers are a really good young team, and I don't think that my impression of them has changed much during this series. The problem is they're really young and they're really inexperienced and they're kind of really stupid. And it starts with their leaders on this team. Rasmus Dahlien, their captain, and Tage Thompson, who wears an A and is their best player, have taken some really dumb penalties in this series. And it's kind of trickled down to the rest of the team where Buffalo has been on the penalty kill way too much. And it's cost them because Montreal has been fantastic on the power play in this series, finding their form from early in the Tampa series when they scored 3 goals in 5 games in game 1. So, in 5 tries in game 1, I should say. So I think Montreal's gonna close them out here, and people continue— I've been saying it all playoffs— people continue to sleep on Montreal, continue to think that Montreal will get dog-walked by Carolina. I do not think that at all. I think they're a legitimate Cup contender, and they can definitely give Carolina a shot. I even think they could win that series, and I would predict them to win that series because I kind of did predict them to go to the Stanley Cup Final before the playoffs even started.

00:19:24

So really excited about what's going on in that Montreal-Buffalo series. Can't wait for Game 6 tomorrow night. And until then, it's just a waiting game for that Colorado series and Carolina. What is it going to be, 11 days if it goes to Game 7 or something like that, guys, that they've been on the couch? Gonna be, gonna be a really exciting conference final, I believe.

00:19:40

And let me remind you that only Ethan and I, we're still alive.

00:19:44

That's true. Um, knocked me out, and obviously David had the Kings.

00:19:49

Woo!

00:19:49

So there's that. And quite frankly Rosie shouldn't be in this either.

00:19:56

Oh no, oh no, no, that was picked by Ethan so it doesn't count. My team is Avalanche what can I do? The next—

00:20:04

if the wait... Rose had the Flyers before she decided to take charge of her own world. Yes, yes.

00:20:09

Then she decided she didn't want the Flyers and so she picked the Avalanche.

00:20:13

You picked the Flyers for me.

00:20:15

I know but that's how it works on this show usually on Bucket of Death you pick.

00:20:18

No, you know what?

00:20:20

The bucket is dead.

00:20:21

The bucket, excuse me.

00:20:22

You can keep going with wins because I'm not going to have this discussion again.

00:20:25

Okay, it's time for wins and fails. Dave, what's your win?

00:20:29

My win of the week is going to make Ethan very happy. The 3 finalists were named this week for the Jim Gregory GM of the Year Awards, and guess who didn't make the cut, Ethan?

00:20:39

Finally, guys.

00:20:40

Can we—

00:20:41

do we have to rename it the Jim Neal Memorial Award or something?

00:20:44

He's still alive, brother. Stop doing that.

00:20:46

Stop. Well, him getting nominated is dead.

00:20:48

So is that.

00:20:50

Interestingly enough, the year the Panthers are decimated by injuries is the year that Jim Nill doesn't go up for the award either. Someday, someday, Bill Zito will get his flowers. Now, he doesn't care because he's got his Stanley Cup rings, but we care. It's deserved. This year's finalists: Billy Garren in Minnesota, Avalanche GM Chris McFarland, and Ducks GM Pat Verbeek. Personally, I think I'm leaning toward Pat Verbeek, but either way, I think it's a win for us all because we finally will get a new winner.

00:21:15

All right, uh, my win of the week comes from game 2 of the Canadian Sabers series. A scrum happened. Somehow Mike Matheson ended up on top of Zach Benson, and while that scrum moved closer towards them, Matheson decided to protect Benson's head from the nearby skates that were going towards him. And even in competition, that is a good job by Matheson to protect his opponent.

00:21:43

I love it.

00:21:43

I love that play. From what could have been a very much gruesome injury. And we've seen skate injuries in this league before. Never good. So good on Matheson protecting Zach Vincent there.

00:21:53

Right there, Roy, that is why— Ethan and Roy and Rose— that is why Buffalo is losing the series. Because one team in the midst of all this playoff psychotic chaos, one team has the wherewithal to still understand what's more important.

00:22:08

Yeah. What's more important there is being disciplined, and Buffalo has not been disciplined at all this entire series.

00:22:14

They have not.

00:22:15

No. In fact, both teams need to keep their sticks down. And that's, that's the other thing we saw in Game 3, that when you have your sticks up, somehow, some way, most likely you're going to end up getting a double minor because somebody is going to get cut open with a stick. And that's what happened actually the past— the entire series.

00:22:33

That's even The top end of the stick though. We had a butt end penalty in the series.

00:22:37

Yeah. Oh, two. But really, that was Josh Manson.

00:22:40

That was Josh Manson and Michael McCarron.

00:22:43

Yeah.

00:22:43

So yeah, the— but in the Western Conference, you gotta watch the other end of the stick.

00:22:47

Oh man.

00:22:48

Yeah. So that's not good. Ethan, what is your win?

00:22:50

My win of the week, guys. We're going to go to the PWHL for this one. The conference final between— or the semifinal, excuse me, between the Montreal Victoire and the Minnesota Frost and Renee Débien. And if we can take this video, Dani B made an unreal save right here on her back, goes up in the air and catches it with the glove here on Renee Débien. Of course, the, uh, goaltender that lost the gold medal game for Canada, uh, against the United States. But she makes an amazing save here. The Victoire would go on to win that game in that series 2-1 in game 5 over the Minnesota Frost. They will face the Ottawa Charge in the PWHL finals for the Walter Cup. So shout out to the PWHL, shout out to the Victoire, and shout out to the Ottawa Charge.

00:23:36

Victoire?

00:23:37

Yeah, that means victory in French.

00:23:39

Is that what they say on the TV calls if I watch? Here come the Victoire?

00:23:44

Yes, yes, just like they'll say Center Bell as well, the official name of the building.

00:23:47

No, it's the Bell Center.

00:23:49

I'm always right, Ross.

00:23:50

No, you're not. No, don't ever say that again. By the way, the Minnesota Frost, Best jerseys.

00:23:56

Yeah, so good, so good. If anybody has a Taylor Heise Minnesota Frost jersey and wants to send it my way, shout out your boy.

00:24:03

Rosie, what is your win?

00:24:05

So my win of the week is something I want to start doing. It's gonna be— I don't know if I'm gonna be able to do it, but listen to this masterpiece. I'm not gonna put it all— I might put it all. Put play.

00:24:16

Mackinnon smash!

00:24:18

Go!

00:24:19

Well, it's the Wild in the heat, Avalanche rolling, putting Minnesota to sleep. 5-2, we Them out at home.

00:24:28

Denver's house, y'all just guessing or don't. Mile High Beast Mode, Nate's running the show. Wild Guy bent, couldn't handle the blow. McCannon came out swinging, golden two dimes.

00:24:49

Got Boldy Crumple, sent him back to hard times.

00:24:52

One snap, two sips, 22 2 on the clock, 5 shots fired, had the Wild in shock.

00:24:58

Nickers lit the lamp first, set the tone real quick. Valeri sealed it up.

00:25:03

That was not how you say Natchez.

00:25:04

So slick, power play, popping 2 for 5, that's the edge. Wild went 0 for 2, couldn't climb off the ledge.

00:25:12

Fans in the stands yelling, Nate's dishing today. Hughes still down, waiting for help to play.

00:25:19

Keprisov took a low blow. Burns missed his aim, got kicked where it stings.

00:25:24

Whole crowd felt the shame.

00:25:27

That kid where he sings.

00:25:28

The crowd felt the shame. That's better than anything that came out of Ottawa, I'll tell you that.

00:25:34

I'm telling you, I'm doing that now.

00:25:35

That's true.

00:25:36

I'm doing that now. I just need help from what that was done with.

00:25:40

So you're going to create songs?

00:25:41

I'm going to create songs, but I'm going to help ask AI to help me create the melody because I don't know how to play music.

00:25:48

Can you do something other than country?

00:25:50

That was kind of good.

00:25:51

I actually like country, so I'll do whatever.

00:25:54

At first it sounded weird. But the more like it kind of, yeah. And the word, like whoever wrote that, like it was, yeah, it was well written.

00:26:02

All right.

00:26:02

Yeah.

00:26:03

Okay. Good win, Rose.

00:26:04

Okay. Let's go to fails. David, what's your fail?

00:26:07

We kind of touched on it a little bit earlier. Yeah, that works.

00:26:11

Yeah.

00:26:11

A little bit earlier. Oiler. My fail is the Oilers, Roy. It's my fail is the Oilers. It's a, it's just a shit show right now.

00:26:20

Nothing more needs to be said.

00:26:21

Yeah.

00:26:21

Like, yeah, we said it already.

00:26:23

Well, I'm looking at my bullet points that I wanted to talk about. We've basically said it all. Stand by. And now Roman's on the hot seat. Every few offseasons we've been saying it's the most important offseason for this Oilers team. They've known the problem for year after year after year and said they still don't have a goaltender. So yeah, Oilers, you're my fail.

00:26:38

All right. Back when the playoffs began, during one of the intermission reports on ESPN, Steve Levy challenged both Marc Messier and PK Subban to pronounce Ukko-Pekka Lukkonen's name. And this is how it sounded.

00:26:52

Did you want to take a crack at that?

00:26:54

Anybody?

00:26:54

Pekka Lukkonen.

00:26:56

Is that his first name?

00:26:57

Lukkonen.

00:26:58

I'm missing one. Lukkonen.

00:27:01

His friends call him UPL.

00:27:03

All right, so that's obviously the fail here, but what's magnified that fail? Well, the Buffalo Sabers kind of recruited a couple of fans to correctly pronounce UPL's name, and this is how it sounded.

00:27:16

Okay.

00:27:24

Lukanen. Let's go, Ugo Pekka Lukanen! Ugo Pekka Lukanen!

00:27:30

Lukanen!

00:27:31

Lukanen! Lukanen!

00:27:33

Ugo Pekka Lukanen! Ugo Pekka Lukanen!

00:27:38

Ugo Pekka Lukanen! That's not how you say it.

00:27:47

Rosie, say it.

00:27:48

Ugo Pekka Lukanen!

00:27:50

That's not how you say it.

00:27:52

Oh, come on.

00:27:53

Uh, yeah, uh, Messi, PK, you can't get outshined by a bunch of 4-year-olds or toddlers in this situation, but you did, and that, that's not good. Uh, Ethan, what's your fail?

00:28:03

Uh, I don't— I didn't have a fail coming in, guys, but I'll talk about Ukepek Lukan in here.

00:28:07

You could have told me that before.

00:28:08

You call him pulled at the second intermission in arguably the most important game.

00:28:14

You could have told me that you didn't have a fail before this show, and I would not have gone to you.

00:28:18

Just like I did.

00:28:20

My fail is the— no, my fail is the Vegas Golden Knights, guys.

00:28:23

Your fail should be yourself.

00:28:24

No, my fail is the— it's the Vegas Golden Knights. Their behavior is terrible, and I'm tired of it, and I'm tired of them getting away with it. Carter Hart's playing well. It stinks. Nobody's having fun. I'm bummed that they're in the Western Conference.

00:28:35

So you, in lieu of not having a fail, did what David just did.

00:28:39

Yes, yes, yes. My fail is, is the Vegas Golden Knights.

00:28:43

Carter Hart's last 7 games, Ethan,.918 save percentage, 2.37 goals against.

00:28:49

Nobody's enjoying that.

00:28:50

8 goals saved above expected.

00:28:51

So nasty. Not having fun.

00:28:54

That's, that's unbelievable.

00:28:56

Wow.

00:28:57

Rose, you don't have a fail either.

00:28:58

Yeah, I already told you.

00:28:59

See, now Rose told me this before the show and I knew that. That's why I decided not to go to her because I thought that you had a fail either. I mean, come on. What are we doing?

00:29:11

Thank you. Thank you.

00:29:14

00:31:13

You can watch his new special, uh, live on Short Street on his YouTube channel. You can find that at Brad Williams Comedy. Plus you can check out his podcast Heightened Babel everywhere you find those sorts of things. It is Brad Williams. And, uh, before we get to the playoffs, Brad, and I'm sure you're definitely ready to talk about that, I wanted to play this video to get your analysis. Do you know what the Blade Gang is?

00:31:41

The Blade Gang?

00:31:42

Yes.

00:31:43

I'm assuming that's what those vampires called themselves while having the rave in the movie Blade. That's what— that's something which was a fire track, by the way.

00:31:55

Solid opening scene.

00:31:56

They're bathing in blood.

00:31:59

Crazy opening scene.

00:32:01

Yeah, that's a crazy opening scene.

00:32:03

That is not it. No, no, it's a bunch of guys, a bunch of people dressed up in full hockey pads in Buffalo, uh, wearing skates. Uh, they have gotten some attention throughout the, uh, playoffs, and apparently they have added a dwarf to, uh, the game. This, uh, this—

00:32:20

let's see if I know him.

00:32:21

Yeah, here's the video, because every dwarf knows every dwarf, right? Yeah, yeah.

00:32:27

I, I mean, I hate to say that. All right, I'm trying to zoom in on this on my— all right.

00:32:33

Yeah. So the dwarf is dressed up in full pads and in rollerblades and he crashed into one of those training dummies for MMA artists wearing a Cole Caulfield, oh, Lady Anne's jersey. He teabagged him.

00:32:45

Wow. He did teabag him. And that is a devastating move. You think, oh, it's not that bad because dwarves are small, but we have big dumpers, man.

00:32:56

We have huge.

00:32:57

We have Yokozuna Rikishi style dumpers. So doing that move is absolutely devastating. Absolutely devastating. And I feel bad for that training dummy. Sadly, I made the joke, but I do know that dwarf. Do you? That dwarf is a TikToker, so I'm not surprised that he— yeah, I think he's in the TikTok where when Avatar came out, where he's riding on the back of a tall guys swimming underwater. It got a lot of views. But, uh, yeah, he's, uh, yeah, he's a TikToker. But I now, I know the Blade Gang because their first video that went viral was, was the guy skating backwards. I think it was against the Bruins, and then he tripped and fell on something.

00:33:47

So good. So good.

00:33:49

Yeah, yeah, that was classic. And, uh, yeah, so hey man, that— this is why I love Buffalo. Buffalo goes all in. They go all out. They love their sports teams. They continue to love their sports teams despite not winning titles. And they, they just keep showing up, man. So you gotta, you gotta appreciate it. You gotta appreciate the good, the good people of Buffalo. And I don't know how I'm viewing this because on one point I would love to see a Canadian team win a cup. The other side, I would love to see Buffalo advance and for that city to get a cup. But talking to the Canadians that I've talked to, a lot of Canadians that I've talked to are like, no, we don't want the Canadians winning a cup. We don't.

00:34:34

Not those Canadians.

00:34:35

Montreal. Yeah. Not those Canadians. We want, we wanted Ottawa. We want Calgary to get good again. We wanted McJesus to get a cup, you know, something, something like that. And that's not happening thanks to my Anaheim Ducks. McJesus will not get a cup.

00:34:52

I mean, speaking of that, Brad, you were in Edmonton when the Ducks knocked out the Oilers. Right? And then you like came out with your jersey on and you danced the Pink Pony Club, which was a great touch. What was that reaction like and what was everybody saying to you when that happened?

00:35:08

So just to specify, I came out on stage wearing my Ducks jersey when I was doing a show the next night in Calgary.

00:35:18

Oh, so they loved that probably, right?

00:35:20

Oh, they loved it. They were going nuts. I made so much in merch sales that night. It was a really great move.

00:35:28

Good.

00:35:28

Bravo. In Edmonton, I wasn't baldy enough to wear the jersey on stage, but I did have the game on during my meet and greet line. I do a free meet and greet after every show, and I had the game on. So it was in a casino, so all the TVs had the game on in the line. So you would just hear chirps and cheers and boos. There was a goal in that game that got disallowed because one of the Edmonton players kicked it in. And that was one of the better moments of my life. And, but then once I, once the Ducks won the game and once the, once the meet and greet line was over, I did put on my jersey and walk around the casino floor and I'm still alive. So hey, that's good.

00:36:12

Well, they're friendly in Edmondson. I, I mean, you know, even when, when Roy and I were up there, they, they were pretty kind.

00:36:17

Yeah. Because we weren't wearing any Panthers jerseys or hats or anything like that. So they didn't know.

00:36:22

Well, I just have, I have a question about what you were just saying. You said that, that when that goal was disallowed, it made it the greatest night of your life. But I'd like to get some elaboration on that. Like, were there people sobbing around you that brought you joy at that moment?

00:36:35

Yes. It was definite schadenfreude. And I grew up playing youth hockey. I played youth hockey from age 8 to age 15 when people got real big. And I And I stopped growing. And my team was always the Flames. That, that's, that was the youth team that I was always on. And my coach was from Calgary. And so he taught me to hate the Oilers. And so I'm a guy, you know, Joe Nieuwendyk, Mike Vernon, Theron Fleury. These are the Flames that I grew up with and that those teams that I really enjoyed. So yeah. Seeing Edmonton fans whine and cry and sob was just mwah. It was beautiful. And then knowing that, and I imagine a lot of you guys felt the same way, like for Canadians, hockey is their birthright. They believe hockey is their birthright. So the fact that I'm sitting here as a child in Orange County, California, Anaheim, And I'm like, well, my team's winning. Yes. The great hockey hub of Anaheim, California. That's— that just really drove the Canadian fans nuts.

00:37:52

All right, let's move on to the series that just ended yesterday.

00:37:58

Yeah.

00:37:58

I mean, I felt bad for you because I knew you were coming on today and I realized, oh no, this is an elimination game. What if the Ducks lose? And they ended up losing. So I was like, oh, he's a professional.

00:38:08

He's here.

00:38:09

What do you think? Yeah, man.

00:38:10

Yeah.

00:38:11

Yeah. Well, I didn't really think that Brad was going to ghost us. He did text me this morning like, okay, I'll be on at 9:30, 9:30 my time. Yeah. Okay. All right. We're good.

00:38:20

Yeah.

00:38:21

Unless he changed his mind. But yeah, I mean, it felt like— it felt like the game ended a minute in with Mitch Marner's goal. That was deflating. But it did.

00:38:33

Yeah. That goal. Insane. I mean, between the legs on that pass. For a breakaway is, it was, was just nuts. Like I thought he went between the legs and then they showed the replay and I was just like, holy crap, that was, that was an all-time move. And you know, if that move is gonna happen, you're like, well, I don't think it's gonna be our night. But as a Ducks fan, I am proud of the team. You know, we hadn't made the playoffs since 2017. So to come back with a young, exciting team, we knocked out McJesus in the playoffs. Playoffs. And so we're on the right path. We have a lot of young, really good players, really up-and-coming stars. We've hit on draft picks with Leo Karlsson and Beckett Seneca, who, when you saw Beckett get drafted and his reaction was just like, why do they take me at 3? Why? Why did they take me at 3? And out of pads, he looks very tiny. And I was like, no, that guy's not gonna do anything. And then he, and then he sets all kinds of scoring records. He's awesome.

00:39:45

He's awesome. Great player. He's such a great player. Like very good defensively as well. So responsible defensively. And he was one of the finalists for the Calder this year. Like I think he came in third place. Like he is, yeah. I love watching Beckett Seneca play.

00:39:58

Yeah. Scrappy player too. Not, not afraid to mix it up. Was definitely getting under some Oilers skins and some Knights skins during, during the playoffs. So yeah, it, it's a young, exciting team and even more so. And hockey fans won't truly— like, a lot of outside hockey fans won't understand this, but this year the Ducks changed their logo from the old sort of black logo to the orange and black, predominantly orange. And their whole slogan at the beginning of the season was, we are Orange Country. And as a guy from Orange County, I can tell you that made so many fans go, yes, this is our team. This is the team we're gonna support. Because there are some other teams in the city of Anaheim that are trying to not be from Anaheim. They are trying to be the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, which I'm sure many comedians have made the joke that literally translates to the, the Angels Angels of Anaheim.

00:40:57

Well, they dropped Anaheim though. They don't, it's just the Los Angeles Angels.

00:41:02

Yeah, they're the Los Angeles Angels. It's like you play ball like a stone's throw away from the Magic Kingdom. You are not Los Angeles, you are Anaheim, you are Orange County. So to have the Ducks really embrace Orange Country, to have the new ownership come in, put some money into the team, the Honda Center, the pond has been refurbished, new logo. They have— we were one of the last teams to have those effects on ice before the game for pregame. We have duck drones that are flying around the Honda Center before the game. There's lasers going off. It's a party, man. And also in between the action, they play Orange County punk rock music. There's a lot of Offspring, there's a lot of Social Distortion, there's a lot of Lit, there's even a lot of Pennywise being played. They're from Long Beach. So So it's like that really embraced the team to Orange County, and the fans have appreciated that, and they're coming out. So we're really happy. We're really thankful that we have a young, exciting hockey team in Anaheim.

00:42:11

Well, obviously the Pacific Division was really, really bad this season, but despite that, it was really a surprising and refreshing sight to see the Ducks actually make the playoffs. And that's why Patrick Verbeek is nominated for for the GM of the Year Award and Jim Gregory Award. So you look at this future now in this young club, where you see this team going?

00:42:36

I hope that we get a few more vets on the team. John Carlson was an excellent pickup for the Ducks this year from the Capitals midseason. He was really— it helped to have a good veteran leadership in there, a guy who's won a Cup. So yeah, the younger players are just gonna get better. Beckett Seneca's gonna get better. Leo Karlsson is going to get better. And also we have Lightning McQueen, our draft pick last year, who is gonna come up and hopefully, hopefully we hit on him as well. So it's really exciting to see where this team is going. I'm kind of on the fence about goaltending. Dostal was very streaky. He let in some soft ones. So But it, it for goaltending for me is a lot like your NFL quarterback. Like, all right, you might want a new quarterback, but then who are you gonna bring in and who's better? Like, so if you make the switch, it's gotta be someone better. So you can't just say, oh, we want a new goalie or we want a new quarterback and then not have anyone improve at the position. So if they do go another way in goal, it has to be someone who, is better than Dostal, which Dostal's like the, in my opinion, like a Ryan Tannehill of goalies where it's like, eh, he's just, he's just good enough to keep where you're like, yeah, he's, he's Ryan Tannehill.

00:44:07

He's Kirk Cousins to make those, to make those comparisons.

00:44:11

You like that?

00:44:11

Still young though. He's still young and improving. Like I think he can, he showed a lot of flashes this year, Brad, but yeah, very definitely very streaky. And you saw that in the playoffs and it kind of came back to bite you guys.

00:44:21

Yeah. Yeah. If you're giving up 3, 4 goals a game in the playoffs and you have a young team around you, that's really tough to overcome. I mean, in the Edmonton series, I think only one game the Ducks scored first. They were behind in every game in that series. So that's really hard for a young team to continue to do that. So, and you saw it, you saw it again with the Knights. I mean, last night 3 goals in the first period and you're just sitting there like, oof, like we blinked and it was done. So yeah, that, that's something that just has to improve. But I love Coach Q. I think he's got, he's changed the culture around, around the team and it's a really exciting franchise, which I am really happy to be a fan of. And my, my advice and my advice to every C or D-list celebrity out there is become a fan of a team that doesn't have any celebrity fans. You got to, that's the way to go. Because if I was a Kings fan, I'm behind Will Ferrell, I'm behind Justin Bieber, I'm behind Kurt Russell. Like, I'm not getting any tickets.

00:45:40

They're not doing anything for me. But the Ducks, it's like me and Trey Cool from Green Day. And it's not a bad counterpart.

00:45:49

That's a good show.

00:45:51

Hey man, Trey, Trey is a friend. So that helped. But now the Ducks are good. So as a Bronco fan, you see the helmet above me. Aqib Talib was at the game last night wearing a Ducks jersey. That was awesome. That's cool. And Adam Devine has come by and as a fellow comedian, he's He's starting to root for the Ducks. And the band The Offspring does their goal song and they come to games. There's an Offspring night every year where they have alternative jerseys. So we are getting some celebrity firepower. And I keep texting my Ducks contact going, don't forget who was here. Don't forget who was here.

00:46:35

I was going to say, do you get grandfathered in?

00:46:38

Yeah, I hope so. There's a lot of celebrities in LA. Like, what happens if, like, some A-listers, like, oh, I love the Ducks. What happens if, like, Leo is suddenly, like, showing up at Ducks games? They're not going to disrespect you in that case.

00:46:52

Don't—

00:46:52

do not tell Leonardo DiCaprio about the quality of women in Orange County, California. Do not.

00:47:01

Are they younger than 26?

00:47:03

Yeah.

00:47:04

Yeah.

00:47:06

As a 42-year-old, I probably shouldn't even answer this question.

00:47:09

Yeah. Yeah.

00:47:09

This is a safe space.

00:47:10

Yeah. But we, there's a lot of young attractive women in Orange County, California. And so don't tell Leo about 'em. Don't tell some of the Laker fans to go south to behind the orange curtain. Please don't do that. Cause I'm enjoying it. I'm enjoying the fact that the Ducks are really nice to me and hooking me up. And they've got me down into the tunnel where my daughter held up her hand during the entrance and you just saw a bunch of Ducks players just giving her high fives, which was the absolute best until I realized, ah, my daughter's also a dwarf. They probably think she's a Make-A-Wish kid. Oh God.

00:47:54

Oh no.

00:47:55

Uh-oh.

00:47:57

But that's—

00:47:59

they're a young, exciting team, man. And I love being a Ducks fan right now.

00:48:03

Yeah, but get you there for the live.

00:51:07

Okay, uh, before we get out of here, if I don't bring this Off Campus show up right now, Rosie, who forced us to watch this show, is most likely going to bring out a hockey skate and slice my throat, and I don't want that happening to me. So we are going to talk about this. Yes, she's very violent. She's a very violent person. Yeah, so we're going to talk about this Off Campus, uh, show. Uh, I watched the first episode and I can already tell you that I have zero interest or desire to watch this show any further. So in the words of Amino Hassan, Zach Harper, and Anthony Mays, fobe. David, what do you think?

00:51:46

Uh, you're, you're, you're bowing out?

00:51:48

Yeah, I'm done.

00:51:49

No, you cannot.

00:51:49

You gotta watch the whole season.

00:51:50

Yeah, you can. I don't have to do shit. Well, you don't have to, but I mean, that's what we, you know Did it leave you like wanting more?

00:51:57

No, you got to hate watch it.

00:51:58

If anything else, I don't want to hate watch anything. I live a life where I try not to hate on anything other than Sidney Crosby, and I have a nice life because of that. So I don't want to hate watch it.

00:52:09

Just— all right. Anyway, anyway, um, you know, I, I feel like when I was watching it, I'm going to have a hard time only because I don't have the patience for the development that's going to take a whole season for this love triangle or whatever it is that's going to come together. And, you know, I would assume that they're going to end up together at the end. Yeah, but it's just going to take forever. And for me, that's what I'm not looking forward to. But in terms of like the show itself, it kind of surprised me. Rose, I wasn't expecting it to be that raunchy.

00:52:41

Not complaining because I didn't think it was that raunchy.

00:52:43

It was showing bare.

00:52:44

But I also— you watched heated rivalry, right, Dave?

00:52:48

I did.

00:52:49

Compared to Heated Rivalry, that was not very raunchy at all.

00:52:52

Well, that's the thing, like, I've only watched one episode of this, so I feel like there's more coming.

00:52:57

Yeah, I think I've heard from people who have watched more that it does get raunchier, but that first episode was like— it kind of like—

00:53:05

I wasn't expecting—

00:53:06

walked you into the water a little bit.

00:53:07

I wasn't expecting to have that in my face like right then and there, so it did catch me off guard.

00:53:12

Yeah, I think it was unnecessary. Like, all the time they put the things that are necessary, and the part of the friends like the friend just changed.

00:53:18

She just walked in and took her clothes off.

00:53:19

Yeah, that was weird. That was weird. I didn't get— I didn't get the point of that. Like, that was like unnecessary. Yeah, that was just—

00:53:26

that's exactly what it is. Like, what does that say in the script?

00:53:30

Like, but all of these shows are silly though, Dave. Like, it's supposed to be silly and it's like, it's entertaining. Like, it's silly in an entertaining way.

00:53:38

The thing is—

00:53:39

what? Go ahead, Rosie.

00:53:41

The actress, she's 19. And you guys have not watched a lot more. I'm not gonna say more, but they do protect her.

00:53:48

Like, they have a body double?

00:53:50

No, not nothing.

00:53:51

Like, you won't see—

00:53:53

you won't see anything of her because she's 19. So I like that they're protecting her.

00:53:59

But within the construct of the show, that seems a little weird if everybody else is gonna be taking their clothes off but the main character isn't.

00:54:05

I'm so sorry. I think shows don't need to show me a butt.

00:54:08

Or no, I'm not disagreeing with that point.

00:54:10

I will say there was a butt. But very early in this episode, like very early on, it was like there was a but, right? Like within the first minute you saw a but, and it was like, all right, like, so, so, but it kind of from there, like it slowed a little bit. I thought it, because of how quickly there was a but, there was going to be way more of this. Yeah.

00:54:28

Like, where are you going to go from there?

00:54:30

Right. Yeah, I guess I just thought there would be a little, it would be a little more considering how quickly that was presented, but it kind of tailed off throughout the episode. But I thought it was good. I liked it. I find the characters very intriguing. Like, I think that there's a lot to— they set up a lot in the first episode to be developed. I only watched the first episode. I know Rose has already watched it like twice.

00:54:50

No, I mean 5, but I'm waiting for my best friends to react to it because—

00:54:55

okay, so, um, before we get to the hockey ass aspect of this—

00:55:00

what hockey aspect?

00:55:01

Hockey ass?

00:55:02

They actually played hockey?

00:55:03

The hockey ass?

00:55:04

Yes, yes, I saw hockey on this show. They did. And we'll get to that in a second. But Rose, since you are the the expert in this situation. Why don't you give your review?

00:55:14

Okay. So first of all, my review, I, I don't know if they're doing the Bridgerton thing where one of the characters looks very good and then in the next season, they— the other character looks good because only one of them, I think, well, is handsome. The only one, Graham. But as I was telling David at the beginning, when they put the TikTok, I was like, they're good looking, but I will not fall in love with them.

00:55:37

Wow.

00:55:38

I fell in love with Graham. I'm sorry.

00:55:40

That guy, Belmont Camelli.

00:55:43

Yeah, that—

00:55:43

wow, what a name.

00:55:45

But, um, the acting—

00:55:47

Belmont State's coming up soon.

00:55:48

For a 19-year-old and him, I think the acting was spot on.

00:55:52

Like, what, he's like 10 years older than her?

00:55:54

Yeah, 10 years.

00:55:54

You thought the acting was good of the leads?

00:55:57

Roy, come on, you're not gonna have like cinematic Oscar-worthy acting in an Amazon Prime.

00:56:03

I had to criticize her saying that the acting was good of one of the leads. Relative. You have to do relative to the Just the leads.

00:56:10

It never dawned on me that it wasn't good acting. I feel like if I thought it was bad, I would have had that thought at some point, and I never had that thought.

00:56:16

And if it was bad, you were cringed the entire time, and I was—

00:56:19

I did.

00:56:19

You know what, Rose? They distracted me with the nudity. I wasn't thinking about the acting.

00:56:23

It's a heady play. Yeah, you know, it's a heady play by KG Vets.

00:56:26

It's a butt play for anybody that, uh, hasn't—

00:56:30

like, what is the matter with you?

00:56:33

This is what happens when we start getting into like make these— yeah, these are gonna bring out the immaturity in me. Like, I'm not equipped for this.

00:56:39

But I do agree with Rhodes. Like, I thought the acting— yeah, I agree with you, Dave. Like, there was not a point where I was ever like— like, maybe like when they're dancing and singing a little bit, it was kind of cringy, but like, because I'm not like a big musical guy or anything. But I thought overall, like, it was pretty solid, and, and it was— it didn't, it didn't really ever make me cringe at one point.

00:56:58

Like, neither. I would do what she did with the singing. I would—

00:57:01

yeah, the singing scene was and you were dancing around with them. The singing was cute. Yeah, yeah, of course I would.

00:57:06

I did it in the pandemic.

00:57:07

Come on. Also, also, I was a bit confused by this. She seems to be in on the janitorial staff, but why is she in the locker room cleaning up the towels in this situation?

00:57:19

She's like a team manager.

00:57:20

Yeah, I think she's like an arena manager. So she like works the concessions, she does the— she cleans everything up.

00:57:27

So as you understand, the main— okay, the two main characters: Garrett, he's a, he's a player, and he's gonna Well, I don't know if they already mentioned where he's gonna go.

00:57:34

And yeah, they've talked about the Boston Bruins. That is like one of the network, by the way.

00:57:39

Nice.

00:57:40

Yeah, right. There you go.

00:57:41

Then you have Hannah, but Hannah, she has a scholarship, but there— yeah, but she needs to work 3 jobs, and one of the jobs, it is to be like there. The other one is cleaning, and the other one is the bar Malone's.

00:57:58

He performs—

00:57:58

Malone's, I believe Malone's is the name of the bar.

00:58:01

Yeah, looks like a fun place. I would hang out at Malone's. That place looked fun. On.

00:58:04

Karaoke.

00:58:04

Wait, hold on. Can I say that the biggest critique I had of this show is the house that they all live in is the nicest college house you'll ever see in your entire life. That is not what a dude's house in college looked like. Okay, I lived in the Northeast. I lived in a dude house in college. My house did not look like that. I did not know any dudes that lived in a house that looked that nice.

00:58:26

That was not—

00:58:27

that was my biggest critique of the show. They got to make their house a little more run down.

00:58:31

They tried. Side to make it into a hockey house because they're, oh, the, the shower's clogged with the, with the condom. The house is like pristine.

00:58:40

Oh, by the way, that, that's the other thing. What the hell are you over here carrying a used condom with your bare hand for?

00:58:45

Well, cuz he just pulled it out of the shower, so it was like, with your bare hand?

00:58:48

He didn't know it was going to be down there. He was cleaning out the pipes.

00:58:51

Use gloves. They're clean.

00:58:53

This is that, that, that's playing into the guy trope that, that I was going to say.

00:58:56

That would be like the most guy thing about that is cleaning without using—

00:59:00

what really would have happened is he would have thrown it at whoever he thought it belonged to. That's That's the first thing, like you would have walked up behind him, smacked him across the face with it and say, please don't pick up after yourself.

00:59:09

Okay, the hockey aspect of the show—

00:59:11

no, wait, before the hockey aspect, because so people know, what happens is she has good grades, he doesn't. He wants her, uh, to tutor him, and she has a crush on a musician. So pretty much they do a deal to pretend that they're hooking up. So that's the premises.

00:59:29

Very interesting.

00:59:30

It's an interesting premise.

00:59:32

It is.

00:59:32

It is a new, interesting premise that I'm excited to see because I can— I listen, I watch like the, like, coming up in the, you know, what's next on Off Campus or whatever. And I could basically tell you what's going to happen from seeing that, or at least what I expect is going to happen, which is these two are going to fall in love. They're going to have a hard time actually. You know, the guy she's crushing on is going to start wanting to have her and she's going to have a hard time leaving the guy and the guy 'Uh, Graham— Garrett's gonna have a—' whatever. Ruining the whole thing. It's gonna be a lot of— I'm not ruining the whole thing, I'm just predicting what I expect will happen because romance shows and movies tend to be very predictable.

01:00:10

Alright, the hockey aspect of this show was not good. Explain why, Dave.

01:00:15

Okay, so he's supposedly like, he's a draft pick of the Bruins, he's their best player by far, he's their new captain even though he's just a junior. See, I'm paying attention, Rose. But then he goes out there and he has like the most mental soft game I've ever seen from anyone. First period.

01:00:30

Well, but that's the thing.

01:00:31

If he's that temperamental, he can go from like he lost two faceoffs, he's throwing F-bombs around, he's freaking out, he's missing one-timers by 5 feet, and then he goes off the ice and he takes a walk. Well, I don't know what the hell that is. You just leave the locker room, you walk to a randomly quiet part of the arena. Yeah, you see that? Look how pissed off he was in the first period. Kid. Like that, like, what is it? But then he comes back after seeing a little musical performance and he's Connor McDavid.

01:00:57

I thought that was cute. I thought it was cute. He kind of like, you know, he had been angry because of— spoiler alert again, if you're watching this, you should assume there are going to be spoilers. So spoiler alert, he's upset that his dad came to visit and told him something that pissed him off right before the game, and he is having a hard time with that. But then he sees this girl living her life so free as freely just enjoying herself, and he's like, oh, that's that love for hockey that I have. I need to just let myself enjoy the game. And he goes out and they ball out and win big time. Good job, E.

01:01:27

Vulnerability. And you know what? The shots are very cinematic, so I don't know why you don't like them.

01:01:31

So you remember when that video came out, the Amazon Prime video of Connor McDavid screaming his head off in the locker room because he was so pissed off? Yes. If he would have just taken a walk instead of getting all pissed, just take a walk to the other side of the locker room.

01:01:43

Take a walk.

01:01:43

Think about the janitor girl dancing around.

01:01:45

Everything else would have changed on a dime. Like, could have changed the whole series. Chris Knobloch would still have a job.

01:01:52

All right, uh, we want to thank you, uh, thank everybody who joined us, uh, to watch the Wild-Avalanche game for Game 5, uh, during our Stanley Cup Playoff watch-along. Um, that was nice, everybody. I hope you had a good time. A great game, an elimination game, and a fast overtime. And a fast overtime. Fast overtime. That was an elimination. Our next hockey show watch-along will be Wednesday, May 20th. May 5th, Game 1 of the Western Conference Final between the Avalanche and the Golden Knights. So please join us as we watch the beginning of who will join us. Who won?

01:02:27

I'm sorry. There's a big gap, right?

01:02:28

Yeah. I mean, her hand's up. I'm over here distracted. But who will join whoever wins in the Eastern Conference for the Stanley Cup Final? Go ahead, Rosie. And this was episode 1.

01:02:38

Prepare for episode 2 and prepare because there's going to be a scene that I'm going to replay and replay for you guys.

01:02:44

Oh great, I'm looking forward to that.

01:02:45

I'm looking forward to this element of watching. I don't, you know, the show— me getting annoyed. Well, yeah, I feel like the communal conversation about it, experience it, that could be fun.

01:02:54

But hey, people are going to love your, your, your thoughts on, on the show.

01:02:58

We're certainly going to be analyzing the hockey elements. Just watch the hockey if nothing else.

01:03:03

That, that would mean I would have to watch the episode. Just fast forward, you get to the hockey.

01:03:06

You have to watch the episode. And the, the difference between this one and Hereditary, I know You know, here, Rivalry, both their worlds are hockey. So it's a little bit more hockey. Here, it's just one of them is the world. But you see some hockey. Okay. Okay. See you for the season— episode 2.

01:03:22

Sorry. That's great. Remember to subscribe to The Hockey Show on YouTube at The Hockey Show DLS. We are on TikTok at The Hockey Show 7 and on X, Instagram, and Threads at The Hockey Show DLS. Episode description

Three of the four teams are set in the conference finals of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, so the show starts in its natural place: discussing the Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers. The Leafs fired Craig Berube and the Oilers let go of Kris Knoblauch this week, so the gang breaks down what the moves mean for each club. In between wins and losses, Roy lets Ethan have exactly three minutes to discuss the Stanley Cup Playoffs, including the thrilling series between the Montreal Canadiens and Buffalo Sabres, and the Vegas Golden Knights taking out the Anaheim Ducks to set up an exciting Western Conference final with the Colorado Avalanche. Brad Williams joins the show to discuss his Duckies and how, despite the loss to the Knights, he is still excited about the future in Orange County. Finally, the group gives their review of Episode 1 of the new Amazon Prime show, Off Campus.
