The war simmers with Iran as Lebanon verges on a new civil war. An investigation into the LA mayoral race suggests the homeless were paid to vote for Democrats, and several birth tourism schemes have been shut down. I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Executive Editor John Bickley. It's Wednesday, June 10th, and this is Evening Wire.
President Trump says the US is readying for new strikes against Iran. Here with the latest is Daily Wire foreign affairs reporter Kassia Kiva.
The conflict with Iran escalated again Wednesday as President Trump signaled additional military action may be imminent. Here's Trump speaking from the Oval Office today.
We hit them hard yesterday and we're gonna hit them again hard today, and we'll see what happens with the deal.
This comes after the United States and Iran exchanged military strikes overnight. With US forces targeting Iranian military infrastructure following the downing of an American Apache helicopter, and Tehran claiming retaliatory strikes against US assets in Gulf states and Jordan. Trump also revealed a previously undisclosed US operation in the Strait of Hormuz, claiming the military helped more than 200 commercial ships and 100 million barrels of oil safely reach global markets. Trump posted, quote, "The United States controls the Strait of Hormuz, not Iran." adding, quote, it's over for Iran.
Caught between pressure from Iran, Israel, and the US, Lebanon is on the verge of a new civil war. Daily Wire reporter Zach Jewell has the details.
Lebanon has entered into a fragile ceasefire with Israel and, under the terms of the agreement, is set to dismantle Iran-backed terror group Hezbollah. Lebanon has attempted to root out the terror group before. In late 2024, the country struck a similar ceasefire agreement with Israel but failed to deliver on it after Hezbollah resisted military pressure. Hezbollah is now at its weakest point in decades, but it represents many of Lebanon's Shia Muslim population in the government.
Fiery unrest has broken out in Belfast, Ireland, after a Sudanese asylum seeker stabbed another man in the eye and blinded him while appearing to try to behead him. Footage of the brutal attack spread quickly online. Following the incident, a group of masked men set fire to several homes believed to house immigrants and set at least one bus on fire. We'll have more coverage on the story on the main show tomorrow.
After a shocking surge of late votes for underdog candidate Nithya Raman knocked Spencer Pratt out of the LA mayoral primary, the California Post did some digging. This week, the outlet shared video interviews with homeless individuals who say they were paid to vote for certain candidates.
Would they come down here and try and pay you to vote?
Yes.
On a ballot? Yes. How much they pay you?
$5.
Oh, they said here, come and vote for these candidates?
Yes, sir.
They told you who to vote for?
Yeah.
Yeah, so for $4, they're like, hey, you got to vote for one of these candidates, not Spencer. You do Karen or Nithya.
Yeah, that was the best one for me. I mean, that was the one I was suggested for. I don't give a fuck.
Got it. I mean, and you're like, yo, give me $4 and I'll do it.
Yeah, why not?
Those interviewed claimed the ballot harvesters came at least 3 times a week to their encampment. The Post is claiming that thousands of homeless voters were registered to homeless shelters they did not actually live in. The DOJ is reportedly investigating.
Bill Gates testified behind closed doors today about his ties to Jeffrey Epstein. Gates claims he became entangled with Epstein after he told him he had access to wealthy donors who might donate to his health organization. He also claims that Epstein blackmailed him with knowledge of Gates' affair after he tried to disengage with him. Notably, Gates denied ever visiting the island or Epstein's domestic residences and says his affair had nothing to do with Epstein.
New data shows inflation numbers are up as energy prices stay high. Homepage managing editor Jordan Schroeder has the details.
While still nowhere near the highs of 2022, inflation numbers rose in May by a 3-year high of 4.2%. That's almost a 2% increase from this time last year. While the numbers are high, economists point out that the rising prices are mostly food and energy costs. Economists polled by the Wall Street Journal seem to agree that other sectors are meeting normal price expectations. Rising costs of food and energy, however, tend to be what hits consumers the hardest.
Social Security's Board of Trustees has bumped up the expected date for the fund's reserves to run dry. Daily Wire assistant editor Andy Valdez has the details.
The board published its annual report on Tuesday and said that the reserve fund is on track to disappear by late 2032. Sooner than the 2033 date projected last year. Once the reserves are gone, Social Security will have to reduce benefits by 22%. The trustees said the new projection is due to an expected decrease in tax revenue, as well as a decline in both birth rates and immigration.
The Daily Wire first reported that the State Department has uncovered and shut down several birth tourism networks around the world. Daily Wire reporter Jacob Wheeler has the story.
Under guidance from the State Department to be on high alert about fraudulent documentation, US embassies in West Africa, Europe, and North Africa found evidence of multiple plans to produce fraudulent documents and facilitate individuals traveling to the United States to give birth within American borders. A US embassy in Europe found that more than 400 suspected birth tourism cases had occurred since 2024, with applicants being funneled through private companies and coached on how to scam our system. In all three of these cases, the schemes were promptly shut down. The US State Department said they were, quote, taking action around the world to stop this abuse, dismantle birth tourism networks, and hold accountable those who try to scam our system.

A World Cup referee was forced to return to Turkey after US immigration officials uncovered potential potential ties to terrorism. Omar Artan was one of 52 referees handpicked by the World Cup to officiate this summer's tournament, but after he sat through an 11-hour interview with customs, Artan, a native of Somalia, was barred entry into the U.S. Artan told The Athletic that he thought the problem was something to do with his native country, but U.S.
officials said the problem lay with Artan's, quote, "association with suspected members of terror organizations." The popular predictions market Kalshi plans to require users to disclose their employers to make certain bets. Daily Wire reporter Drew Berkmeier has more.
The new restrictions come as prediction markets make headlines over national security-related trades and face pressures from lawmakers. In April, the FBI arrested a soldier for cashing in $400,000 on an alleged bet over the operation to seize Venezuelan strongman Nicolás Maduro. Kalshi does not plan to verify the employment information collected on its users unless it finds activity on the profile it deems suspicious, such as an extraordinarily high win percentage.
The FDA approved a new sunscreen ingredient for the first time in 25 years this week. Lifestyle reporter Lauren Baer has the latest.
The agency announced yesterday that it has added bemotrizanol to the list of permitted active ingredients for sunscreen. While new to the U.S., bemotrizanol has been used in sunscreen in Europe for years. It is a chemical designed to sit on top of the skin to reflect the sun's UV rays. Dutch manufacturer DSM Nutritional Products will be the first to release a product with the new ingredient later this year. Other brands will be allowed to compete with their own bemotrizanol sunscreens after an 18-month exclusivity period.
Tom Homan is planning to flood the Big Apple with more ICE agents, quote, "than you've ever seen." Immigration reporter Jenny Taere has the story.
Border czar Tom Homan says New York City is about to see a major influx of federal immigration agents weeks after Governor Kathy Hochul signed sanctuary laws limiting how local police can cooperate with ICE. Homan told Fox News earlier this week he's already reviewed an operational plan.
I told her it's safer for the community, it's safer for the officers, it's safer for the aliens to have these cooperations with the jails. She signed the legislation anyways, so I made her a promise and it's coming. I'm not going to tell you exactly when it's going to happen, But it's coming. I'm keeping my promise. We're going to send more ICE agents to New York because you took away the efficiencies of safe arrests in county jails.
The legislation passed by Hochul bars local police from partnering with federal agents and limits ICE's operations in hospitals, parks, and other public spaces, forcing ICE agents into neighborhoods to make arrests, which Homan says will only stir up more panic.
Meta is launching a free alternative to college in 4 red states. Assistant editor Nathan Gay has more.
Meta launched a free program yesterday that it's calling America's Workforce Academy. The first of its kind, $115 million initiative is designed to fast-track Americans into high-demand jobs without requiring a college degree. The pilot program is launching in 4 states: Louisiana, Ohio, Indiana, and Texas. The academy seeks to produce welders, electricians, plumbers, and fiber technicians, the workers who will build the data centers and infrastructure powering the artificial intelligence boom. Mike Rowe, of Dirty Jobs fame, is all in on it.
We're talking about a $10 trillion infrastructure buildout over the next 8 or 9 years. And the biggest impediment to making that happen is a trained and enthusiastic workforce. That's what they're doing. This is the first time in my career anyway, I've seen so much opportunity with no impediments.
And doctors are warning that the dirty soda trend taking over the menus at fast food joints is a metabolic disaster. The trend originated in Utah as an alternative to coffee and involves adding flavored syrups and creamers to regular or diet sodas. The resulting beverages contain significantly more sugar than standard soda, sometimes up to 180 grams in a single serving. After being popularized on TikTok and the reality show The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Dirty sodas are now being offered nationwide at fast food chains like Sonic, McDonald's, Taco Bell, and others.
