00:00:18

Tony, we gonna do it? Are we doing it today?

00:00:20

I mean, I don't see a mean.

00:00:21

I think we're gonna do it.

00:00:22

And he was very confident yesterday.

00:00:24

He said he could do it.

00:00:25

I think you're gonna do it. So Aaron Donald, Aaron Donald, he's preparing. Maybe. We don't know for sure. Maybe to return to the Rams this year. And part of his workout routine— I don't know if you saw this, Greg— but he, he, he's, he's in his pool and he just— I, I guess he's balancing this 5-gallon jug of water. He just holds it with his hand. Like, that's crazy, right, Greg?

00:00:49

I don't know, is it?

00:00:50

What?

00:00:50

He hasn't felt it. That's why, as soon as you brought this up, I said to Mike, I'm like, he's gonna say he could do it.

00:00:56

And then I was like, he might die.

00:00:57

I mean, my, my My wrist would break if I tried that. That is so difficult what he's doing right there.

00:01:02

What does that weigh? What does that amount of water weigh?

00:01:05

A 5-gallon jug like that weighs probably close to £50.

00:01:08

But it's also, you're holding a little, a little handle that is then connected by a massive barrel.

00:01:14

Right.

00:01:14

That is so difficult what he's doing there.

00:01:17

Interesting.

00:01:17

Well, we have challenged Tony. We want Tony to try this.

00:01:20

Oh my gosh.

00:01:20

Tony, do you think you can do it?

00:01:22

Um.

00:01:23

How much? How much does the internet say?

00:01:25

AI, Google is telling me 41.£7.

00:01:28

Okay, so close.

00:01:29

And again, it's not even, it's not even the weight. It's, it's the small— yes, right.

00:01:34

It's about balance.

00:01:36

Yeah, it's about core strength, really.

00:01:37

Yeah, it's about drive. It's about power.

00:01:39

Thank you.

00:01:40

It's about Eye of the Tiger.

00:01:41

Exactly right, which I'm gonna have to have up there. So we talked about it yesterday. Can I do a gallon in the 5-gallon jug?

00:01:46

Yes.

00:01:46

Can I do 2? Can I do 3?

00:01:47

Oh, so you're gonna go from like, you're You're gonna raise the stakes?

00:01:50

Well, no, we're gonna—

00:01:50

so, 'cause it's already filled.

00:01:51

Okay.

00:01:52

Right? So I'm gonna have to do the whole 5.

00:01:54

Okay.

00:01:54

But then we'll do the ladder to see how much I could do if I can't do the ladder, how close I can get.

00:01:58

All right, go, go, go.

00:01:59

41.7, by the way, is the water alone. With the plastic jug, they say that adds 1 to £2. So we're looking at 43 to £44.

00:02:06

All right, go. Heavy. Let's do it, go. Let us know when you're ready.

00:02:10

Before we bring Adnan aboard, wanna highlight what's going on in Colombia. It's been a devastating summer. For South America. We all know what happened in Venezuela, and now Colombia was rocked by an earthquake yesterday. The videos are horrific. I know many in our audience, um, were touched by this. Family out in Colombia, comms are down. It's a really bad situation. I was mortified watching a lot of this yesterday. So we're asking our listeners to please, uh, support World Central Kitchen as they are on the ground right now providing meals to survivors and first responders in Colombia. Visit wck.org to donate now and support emergency emergency food relief for the affected families. Again, donate now at wck.org.

00:02:56

Good job, Mike. Let's bring aboard Adnan Virk joining us, host of Amazon Prime Monday Night Hockey and NHL Unscripted, Virk and Demers podcast. Hello, Adnan, how are you?

00:03:07

I'm doing great, Zas. Normally people lead off the MLB Network. I'm impressed you're going with my hockey bona fides.

00:03:12

Yes.

00:03:13

You want to talk a little Panthers conversation? Great to see you all. I know we're gonna have some movie talks, so let's get this out of the way right now. This is supposed to be the summer of Christopher Nolan and The Odyssey, but Mike Ryan will back me up, this is the summer of Olivia Wilde. Directed The Invite, which is a fabulous movie, one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time, and also starring in I Want Your Sex, new film with Cooper Hoffman, the son of Philip Seymour Hoffman. The movies are back, folks. Zazda, box office attendance up 10% this year, year over year, and that was before The Odyssey broke records, $1.8 billion. And before Spider-Man hit theaters. Movies are back.

00:03:45

Mike, are you going to back up Adnan that this is the summer of Olivia Wilde?

00:03:49

No, she's, uh, probably on the medal stand, but I'd go Zendaya and Anne Hathaway. They've had huge summers, although Anne Hathaway appears to be having a flop on her hands this week. When a, a big summer action movie that features dinosaurs surprises you with its release date because you haven't seen any marketing, it's usually a bad sign.

00:04:10

Good point by Mike. Anne Hathaway is definitely getting some Oscar consideration though for excellent work in The Odyssey. I enjoyed the entire cast. It's funny because people start to quibble and start to point flaws, and it's clearly a great film. Like, it's a magnificent achievement. Like, that's a little long. I'm like, yeah, okay, but it's based on Homer's The Odyssey. The guy's got practical effects up the wazoo across the board. The cast is excellent. Well, I'm not sure about Tom Holland. I'm like, okay, fine, not everyone's gonna be a 10. How about John Leguizamo though? This could also be the summer of John Leguizamo. He's back.

00:04:38

It can't be the summer of John Leguizamo.

00:04:39

It's not the summer of John Leguizamo.

00:04:41

I told you I think he should win Best Supporting Actor.

00:04:43

Adnan, your headphones are killing me.

00:04:45

I need to be in a job like with Zabo.

00:04:47

What is going on with his headphones?

00:04:48

Stop replying with Zabo.

00:04:50

What is going on? Like, it is tangling on.

00:04:53

What's up with that earpiece?

00:04:55

Yeah, what is happening here?

00:04:56

Right when he needs one.

00:04:57

It's not a tangle, Zaznail. It's the actual headphones. What it is is the earpiece. My son's always stealing the headphones from me, and then I think he fell asleep in them one day, and now it's askew. And of course, everyone thinking to themselves, Well, why don't you just go buy a new pair of headphones? But no, this is the lesson I'm teaching myself and my son. Stole my headphones. That's looking like a moron.

00:05:15

It looks crazy.

00:05:16

Yeah, it's shaking. The right one is shaking.

00:05:18

Yeah, you can see it on the pitch clock once a month.

00:05:20

I think this could be, though, the summer of John Leguizamo. I think—

00:05:23

I think—

00:05:24

yeah, put it on the poll.

00:05:25

Yeah, put it on the poll. Is this the summer of John Leguizamo? I think it might be.

00:05:30

Now, Adnan, once started Summer of Sam, now it's a summer of Leguizamo.

00:05:35

Go ahead. Now I'll let you in on something. The reason I didn't start with your MLB Network work is I'm now an MLB expert. I don't know if you heard, I just explained the fourth out rule to everyone. Did you previously know of the fourth out rule?

00:05:49

No, thank God, Sash, you were there to explain it to me. I, like everybody, was dumbfounded and confused while watching it last night. The great Dan Schulman on the call for Red Sox and Blue Jays. I still believe I'm confused by it, but I guess at the end of the day, it's a timing rule. It looks like they got it right. Scoreboard error, not issues. 16-minute delay. Ultimately, the Jays do win the game, but it was a bizarre, bizarre play. I'm sure our friend Tim Kirtchen would say, I've never seen anything like that in 60 years of watching baseball.

00:06:13

I think, like I said, this may be the strangest part to me, is we can go back as recently just a few years ago. If the umpire is not mic'd up like he is these days, how does the crowd in attendance know what the hell was going on.

00:06:28

It's a great point. And we put— it's funny, people are going to say, well, the whole mic'd up issue, it's overrated, like in terms of like in-game interviews, manager interviews and such. But I'm with you when it comes to umpires explaining things. It's vital. I mean, you go back and watch— look at how much ABS has changed the game now. Today I go back, I'll watch old baseball games sometimes, like, how could they blow that call? But of course they didn't have casual— they didn't have ABS. And so I'm with you. Definitely the NFL, I felt like, was at the forefront of explaining plays to the umpires. But yeah, Definitely helpful to the crowd there at the Rogers Center.

00:06:56

And then did you see Spider-Man: Brand New Day yet?

00:06:58

No.

00:06:59

And this will upset you, Zaz. I think you're more into superhero movies than I am. I generally have superhero fatigue. So my cousin bit the bullet for me. He said, listen, I'll take your kids rather than you having to go stomach it. Afterwards, I asked my kids. They loved it. They go, it was so great, Dad. And I asked my cousin. He said, you definitely would not like it. It was too long. It was, you know, too much of the same crap over and over. But it's gotten good reviews, generally speaking. Of course, it's made a whale of money. What did you think?

00:07:21

Uh, I thought it was great. There's exactly one person— because it's 98% on Rotten Tomatoes— there's exactly one person who did not like this movie. It's Mike Ryan. Mike Ryan. Not only did Mike Ryan not like it, Adnan, Mike, you said it was horrible.

00:07:37

Yeah, I think it was in like Spider-Man 3 tier.

00:07:40

Wow.

00:07:40

It was way too long considering that's the last movie before the big Avengers movie. It did very little, I thought, to set that up. I do like that Peter Parker might be responsible for a big storyline going forward, but this entire movie could have been an email.

00:07:53

Oh man, I mean, great diss belt by Mike.

00:07:58

The reason why, Zazz, I assumed you liked it, because remember last year's Superman, which is a huge hit, you loved it.

00:08:03

I did.

00:08:04

Yeah, yeah, right. And I did not like it, so I was like, you know what, this Superman's probably gonna be more of the same. Let me ask you this then, what was better, last year's Superman or this year's Spider-Man?

00:08:11

Uh, Superman. Uh, is Superman I mean, at the time that I saw Superman, I said it's my favorite superhero movie ever. Like, I was so high on it. And I— why is that funny to you? Why is that so funny? Why can't it be my favorite?

00:08:21

That's an absurd take, Sasko. Even you can realize that is an absurd take.

00:08:25

I'm allowed to have anything I want to be my favorite anything, right, Greg?

00:08:29

You can even wear a red t-shirt if you want to.

00:08:32

And then I look good. Red's a good color for me, right?

00:08:35

Red is a good color for you. I hope you have the trunks as well matching. But at the very least, red— not everybody can pull off red. Resurrect the red. That should be the slogan of the summer, along with some of the—

00:08:43

like, wasamo, resurrect the red.

00:08:45

I knew it. I'm looking forward to the results there as this is summer of John Leguizamo.

00:08:50

You look like a Mountie that's on lifeguard duty.

00:08:54

Adnan, the Dodgers. Are the Dodgers— is there anything to be worried about there after this huge skid that they recently snapped out of?

00:09:02

I wish. As we talked to David Vasseur yesterday, does a fantastic job covering the Dodgers. And I said, the Dodgers have lost 8 of 9 games. This is a little bit surprising. He said, yeah, but they did this last summer and they're going to get their pitching healthy and everything's going to be fine. I'm like, are you sure?

00:09:14

He's like, yeah.

00:09:15

The only thing I will point to is the Brewers right now are on pace to win 102 games. That would be a franchise record. They won 97 a summer ago. The Braves right now are the second seed. It would be fascinating to see, as my colleague and friend Matt Faskirschen pointed out, if the Dodgers are the third seed and the Padres can squeak in as a sixth. Padres-Dodgers would be an unbelievable wildcard series. And as you guys know, it's just two games. You tell me the Padres can't win two games after making some reinforcements now, acquiring Robbie Ray and Casey Mize. And the fact that their offense is now better— Manny Machado, Tatis has found it, Jackson Merrill. So I'm kind of hoping the Dodgers slip a little bit to a 3 seed. Maybe the Padres can punch him in the mouth and get a little bit of a surprise. But no, I'll say this for the Dodgers. Schubel pitched last night, it was okay, right? 5 innings, gave up 3 runs, wasn't great. Caglione got to him a little bit. But Blake Snell pitches tonight. He might be their most vital starter. He hasn't pitched in 3 months, and yet he's fully confident.

00:10:05

He's ramped up. He can go up there and throw 80, 85 pitches tonight. If we get Schubel, Snell, Ohtani, Glasnow come postseason, it'll be awfully tough to dethrone the Dodgers.

00:10:14

So Adnan, how do you think the Dodgers feel when Tariq Schubel says after the trade that he would love to play his whole career in Detroit? Hopefully the negotiations pick back up in November once the playoffs are done.

00:10:29

Boy, you're hanging on and we'll see where that goes. Adnan's headphones right there.

00:10:34

I'm doing just fine.

00:10:35

No, you're struggling. You're holding something down.

00:10:37

What's the matter with you?

00:10:37

You got a fart?

00:10:38

Hang on a second. I'm doing just fine now. Uh, don't ever accuse me of farting. I would never fart in public. Everybody knows that about me.

00:10:45

Before the show, we thought you may have farted.

00:10:47

Nope, I would— I would never. I would— I would venture to guess it's been at least a decade since I farted in public.

00:10:53

That sounded possible. I'm calling BS on this. And I go back to an earlier conversation. Mike Ryan once pointed this out on the show. If you're on an airplane, don't you just jam that ass sit down on that seat cushion and just let one go. No, she's just— if you just really squeeze it together and don't get up for the next 20 minutes, you go, you know what, it's gonna relax as if it didn't happen. You would do that, Sazh, if you're in severe distress. We're talking about gastronomical distress on a long airplane flight. You have to do it.

00:11:20

No, if I was on that kind of distress, I would get up and I would go to the bathroom and take care of it. I would never do it in my seat.

00:11:25

No, there's some gas people. Sometimes you need like a slight release valve, man. And you just push that ass into the seat cushion. You suffocate that fart.

00:11:34

Everybody does that. Everybody loves a pet.

00:11:39

I want to Greg Cody Back in My Day and farting on planes.

00:11:43

There you go.

00:11:44

Down levitar.

00:11:45

Is there Back in My Day?

00:11:46

There is actually. What?

00:11:47

Were you not going to tell anyone?

00:11:49

It's Tuesday. Wait a minute.

00:11:50

You guys, guys, it's a Tuesday.

00:11:54

Greg Cody, here's your guy. Greg Cody with Back in My Day.

00:12:02

Shit, I hope I have it. Okay, here it is.

00:12:07

Sorry.

00:12:08

Adultery!

00:12:09

That is one!

00:12:10

Oh yeah!

00:12:11

Wait a minute. We're back.

00:12:12

I've been waiting for this one.

00:12:14

This is the Dan Levatar Show.

00:12:23

Adnan, is it possible that Tariq Scoubal does the thing where they trade you, they get a huge haul for you, and then you come back and you sign in the offseason? That'd be amazing.

00:12:32

Yeah, it would be sad, but it seems to never happen.

00:12:35

Never happens, right?

00:12:36

If Derek Schuble wanted to be there, well, he could have signed, right? It's called the hometown discount. I am sure the Tigers approached him at some point this offseason and at some point in the regular season and said, what would it take to get this deal done? What are the parameters? Probably 10 years, $350 million. It's in that ballpark, right? Yamamoto got $325 million. And we all saw how unbelievable he was for the Dodgers against the Blue Jays in the World Series. So clearly Schuble is represented by Scott Boras. We know one thing about Scott. He's not going to get cheated $1. He likes to take his guys to the open market. So could he resign with the Tigers? Yeah, but it's going to cost them $400 million. And I just don't think they have that kind of cheddar.

00:13:10

Greg, when you first started flying and you needed to go fart, you were fine because the cigarette smoke would mask it.

00:13:17

Yes, it is true that people used to smoke in airplanes. Yes.

00:13:23

You've been on a flight where people were smoking cigarettes.

00:13:25

I know you haven't.

00:13:27

I have.

00:13:27

I don't, I don't remember that at all.

00:13:29

No, I don't remember that.

00:13:30

Here to Madrid.

00:13:30

Stop.

00:13:31

I think in the '70s.

00:13:33

I've absolutely— when I was a kid, I was absolutely traveling on planes where the armrests had— I remember that.

00:13:41

I remember restaurants, smoking sessions.

00:13:43

Absolutely.

00:13:44

That's—

00:13:44

I have memories of that.

00:13:46

I don't go to a Bennigan's and like half of that was literally up and not planes though.

00:13:50

I have 100% been up— look it up please when that stopped all across the nation. But I'm really confident. I've been on planes when I was a kid and I've walked through a smoking section.

00:14:00

Yeah, it's pretty wild. You'd go to a restaurant and they'd ask you, smoking or non-smoking?

00:14:05

That's a lot more recent. Like, that, that was prop— was that this century, you think? I think this century there was smoking restaurants. I think so.

00:14:12

Now, to Cody's point, I don't remember smoking on planes, but I do— I still think this exists. At certain airports, they have a smoking room. Like, in Atlanta, you'll walk by and it's like, it's just a cancer ward. It's incredible. You look at it, it's just a haze of smoke. They'll just suck it in that cigarette.

00:14:25

I know, it's funny. They're the modern lepers, those people in the world.

00:14:28

When did Mrs. Doubtfire come out? 'Cause that was pretty much the end of smoking and non-smoking.

00:14:32

That was like '92, '93.

00:14:34

'Cause that's how she got away with it. Remember she asked, "Smoking?" Like when she was asked, well, he was asked. I don't know, it was very confusing.

00:14:42

Smoking on airplanes banned for flights under 2 hours was 1988. Flights under 6 hours, 1990. And a complete banning in 2000.

00:14:53

So again, I have 1000% been on planes where there's been smoking then.

00:14:57

Yeah.

00:14:57

That's incredible that in the '90s you could still smoke in a plane.

00:15:00

Yeah.

00:15:00

The complete ban did not come till 2000. I kind of miss those days.

00:15:03

You just have a lighter and you're playing with fire on the airplane, and then you're doing something that elicits smoke. It's even— on a plane.

00:15:12

Even the restaurants thing is crazy to me, as if like the non-smoking— weren't you smelling it? If like the smoking section is just like— 10 feet over, there's nothing blocking it. It's just like, okay, so the whole place is just filled.

00:15:22

You could say the same thing about the airplane.

00:15:24

Well, I never experienced that. I don't remember being in restaurants being like, man, it smells like smoke in here. I felt like in the non-smoking section, I was like, oh, it smells fine.

00:15:31

Well, Cody, you still remember hotel room smoking versus non-smoking?

00:15:34

Oh, for sure.

00:15:35

Yeah.

00:15:35

Yep. And you ask for— you ask for a non-smoking room, but sometimes you'll get a smoking room, or somebody, you know, skirted the law and they were smoking in that room. You gotta go report them. I see a few butts right now in my toilet. I asked for a non-smoking room. I kind of miss those days.

00:15:47

Yeah, definitely remember the smoking and non-smoking hotel rooms. That's fairly recent, I think. In fact, I think you can still get a smoking hotel room at certain hotels. Really? I think so. I'm not positive, but I think so. Huh.

00:16:00

You gotta check on that.

00:16:01

Interesting. And then, best storyline in the last month-plus here of the regular season will be what?

00:16:08

It's been the Boston Red Sox, Asim. I mean, I thought they were given up for dead. And of course, I'm not an impartial journalist. I root for my friends. And I had the great pleasure of working with Alex Cora. For 5 years at ESPN on Baseball Tonight. So when the Red Sox discarded him on every single highlight, which the Red Sox lost, I kept saying, well, good thing they fired Alex Cora. Unfortunately, now they haven't stopped losing. So I, I, I, so I can't say that anymore. Like, probably a good thing they fired Alex Cora because they've been great. They've like a 32-5 run the last 37 games. And now it's a legit conversation. Boston's gone from being a, a true pretender to a contender. And are they the 3rd best team in the American League? Are they gonna be better than the Yankees? In all likelihood, if the Rays win the division, it's Boston, New York in a best of 3 wildcard series. We just saw that recently, but it'd be fun to see it again. Boston, I think, matches up great against the Yankees, all those lefties, and they could potentially win and they could potentially go to the World Series.

00:16:56

So I think the Red Sox has been a tremendous— or the way they've caught fire, a lot of unlikely suspects. Roman Anthony's been out, they trade Marcelo Maia, Christian Campbell's been a bust, Wilson Contreras has been great for them, Seigler stepped up, Montero has been good, say, Don Rafaela. And of course, that pitching— Sonny Gray has almost won 15 of his last 17 starts. He lost last night against the Blue Jays. Ranger Suarez, great pickup from Philly. They're rolling right now in Beantown.

00:17:19

Ed, man, Jacob Wilson is not getting a lot of love because he plays for the awful A's, but 111 straight games at a tough position for errors. 111 straight games without an error. Where do you rank that in significance in the most historical of sports in terms of all-time streaks?

00:17:37

Greg, it's a great question. I was so excited about it when I saw the headline. And then, of course, I had to do some digging. And this is why we can't have nice things. Because I wanted to go with the narrative that Jacob Wilson is known for his bat-to-ball skills. He's a great contact hitter and of course, the son of the great Jack Wilson, 10-year Major League veteran who taught him defense first. And I said, wow, 111 games. He beat Mike Bordick's record, which is 110 straight at shortstop, 2002. This is not getting enough pub. And then we looked it up with our great researchers. He's -6 defensive runs saved. He's +8 outs above average. So according to analytics, he's not a good defensive shortstop. At least by defensive runs saved. So what that tells us is that he makes the routine plays, he makes no other plays that are worthy of exceptionalism. So he's not Eli De La Cruz, he's not Bobby Witt. If the ball gets hit right to him, he's got limited range like a late-day Derek Jeter, he'll make that play. To which I say, that's still notable. If you still make the plays you're supposed to make, then I'll take it.

00:18:31

And I think 111 games without making an error is still notable. So good for Jacob Wilson, but the analytics do ruin it a little bit.

00:18:38

Yo, Adnan, fix that earpiece, man.

00:18:42

Next time I come back, says we have to get this taken care of, right? I just— I won't— I feel like I'm teaching myself a lesson and my son a lesson. This is why you don't take someone—

00:18:48

No, I think it's just laziness.

00:18:51

And as Tashi has pointed out, this has been going on the pitch clock.

00:18:54

This is literally— I can't believe it. I asked, I think the first 2 times you had it, I asked you like, hey, do you want to fix your headphones?

00:18:59

You went, I don't know, it was a thing.

00:19:01

And so I've just stopped asking. I just expect him to have these headphones that he's constantly, the entire time he's giving this unbelievable analysis, looking down at his notes, speaking rapid fire, and just constantly adjusting the ear, waiting for it to snap back into place. Like that's ever going to happen. This has probably been over a calendar year of this.

00:19:19

Adnan, I want you to co-sign on my top 5 list for, uh, movies that came out in 2026.

00:19:25

I love it.

00:19:26

My movies are back. All right, OLI, Obsession, Oh, I put—

00:19:30

say, Obsession better be in the top 5.

00:19:32

Wow, it was just outside looking in, as is the film Tuner. Have you seen Tuner?

00:19:36

I did, I loved it, I thought it was great.

00:19:39

Yeah, Tuner was a real good lead performance there. I wouldn't be surprised if, uh, he secures a nomination, though it is a loaded year. It is the summer of Leguizamo, as we already established, although Robert Pattinson probably given that a nice little—

00:19:51

Summer of Pattinson!

00:19:52

I love Pattinson.

00:19:54

All right, Number 5, Sheep Detectives. Number 4, The Drama. Number 3, The Odyssey. Number 2, The Bone Temple. And number 1, Project Hail Mary.

00:20:10

He loves The Bone Temple.

00:20:12

Wow, wow.

00:20:12

I, I, listen, I'm stunned you put Project Hail Mary that high. There's no doubt it's a crowd pleaser and it's, you know, got spectacle to it and Gosling and it's another variation of The Martian, but You didn't find it, Mike, a little bit too sentimental? Once we get the, uh, the sidekick character, so to speak, you didn't think it was a little bit too much?

00:20:27

So did it make me feel too good? Is that what you're asking?

00:20:29

I, I think I gravitated towards it a lot like during COVID and Ted Lasso just exploded because people didn't realize how much they needed something that was hopeful. I found a lot of hope in Project Hail Mary at a time where I kind of wanted hope. And my number 2 film does the opposite of that, In the Bone Temple. Um, but I, I did think that Project Hail Mary was super ambitious and the, the performances were incredible.

00:20:53

Ralph Fiennes shows hog in that, right?

00:20:54

Yeah, he does.

00:20:55

Yeah, yeah. I also saw The Return, inspired by The Odyssey. And yeah, I think, uh, Ralph Fiennes also shows his hog in that pretty early on.

00:21:03

What are you talking about?

00:21:03

Yeah, I think like 3 minutes in you see some dick.

00:21:06

But as Mike knows, though, my fondness for the Indies— I want to focus on his OLIs. Tuner is a really good movie. People should go check it out. Really smartly edited. Um, Dustin Hoffman has a small role in it as well. It's a crime caper, but it's really, really inventive. And back to obsession. Again, this is probably going to be the summer of obsession. This is a movie that cost $1,750,000 from A24 to make over $400 million. Mike, what's the likelihood Indi Navarrete ends up getting a Best Actress nomination? I think she will. I think she might win an Oscar. How about that?

00:21:33

Is it the summer of Indi Navarrete?

00:21:35

It might be. It might be the summer. I think she 100% has a nomination.

00:21:39

Yeah. Imagine she wins an Oscar for Obsession. That would be—

00:21:42

and my other bold prediction is that Robert Pattinson will be nominated for Best Supporting Actor and also Best Lead Actor.

00:21:48

Wow.

00:21:48

So he gets in for the drama and for the Odyssey. Love it.

00:21:51

Earliest dick in a movie's got to be Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

00:21:53

No. Oh boy.

00:21:55

Earliest?

00:21:55

Jason Segel.

00:21:56

No, I think Fiennes' crank shows earlier.

00:21:59

Wow.

00:22:00

Isn't Segel like opening scene walking out of the shower? It's one of them.

00:22:04

Uh, Juju, put it on the poll.

00:22:06

No, Michael Fassbender in Shame. I think he shows it like in the first 2 minutes.

00:22:09

Uh, Juju, put it on the poll. Who shows their crank earlier? Who shows their crank earlier? Jason Segel. Ralph Fiennes or Michael Fassbender?

00:22:20

It's Ralph Fiennes.

00:22:21

Ralph Fiennes. Still being called Ralph. Imagine the first time someone goes, hey, let's introduce this great actor. He's here in the film Schindler's List. He's wonderful. Ralph Fiennes, everybody.

00:22:29

Ralph Fiennes.

00:22:30

Excuse me, it's Ralph. Oh, I beg your pardon. That's all these years later, still calling him Ralph.

00:22:37

Adnan, Josh Beckett or Sandy Alcantara in the final spot on the Marlins Mount Rushmore?

00:22:42

Oh, I love Sandy. Listen, he's been so great, especially this bounce-back season he's had. And Tashay has such a strong attachment to those Marlins. Beckett, I'll never forget what he did in 2003, shutting down those New York Yankees. But I love Sandy. I think he's been a great story and a great Marlin. I'll go Sandy.

00:22:55

All right. There you go.

00:22:56

All right.

00:22:57

And then you said it all. Excellent job again, host of Amazon Prime Monday Night Hockey and NHL Unscripted. And then Panthers, they should be favored to win the Stanley Cup, right?

00:23:09

It's crazy. I can't think of any other sports in which a team could win a couple of Cups and then have Clearly an offseason and they go, okay, with some injuries, but they missed the playoffs. Some teams have an offseason, they go, well, they were a 6th seed, they got bounced early.

00:23:19

No, missed the playoffs.

00:23:20

And everybody goes, yeah, but they'll be back. They'll be totally fine. Let's just go ahead and go get Brady Tkachuk.

00:23:24

It's true.

00:23:24

Panthers rolling again this season. And by the way, we're doing that game for Amazon Prime. Panthers centers in Ottawa. So I cannot wait to get a front row seat to get the kind of reception Brady Tkachuk will get back in my nation's capital of Ottawa.

00:23:36

I mean, it's going to be rough, right?

00:23:38

It's going to be vicious. And for anybody who thinks Canadians are genteel or soft, I'm like, no, they're They're going to be going pretty wild there against Brady Tkachuk. And I get it. And one thing about Brady is he doesn't mind playing the villain. We know that USA-Canada World Cup of Hockey, he'll drop the gloves, he'll get feisty. So I'm expecting a couple of fights within the first minute. It'll be great.

00:23:54

It's a good— that's a good assignment for you. And then you love that one. Make sure to check out Adnan's book Cinephile wherever you get your books. If you're into movies, got to check that out.

00:24:02

Good job, Adnan. Thanks for hanging out, man. Good to see you.

00:24:05

Thanks so much, boys. Appreciate that. And I'll get working on this headphone.

00:24:07

All right.

00:24:08

Mike, you love that Bone Temple. It's a good movie.

00:24:11

Hey yo, yeah, yeah, the great performances, um, in that film, um, small cast, but I mean, it's a post-apocalyptic zombie film, but I, I thought that Ralph Fiennes was tremendous in it. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I, I really loved that film and great, great music in that film, great use of music.

00:24:32

All right, Dan Levitar. Yo, I'm not gonna lie, Jonathan Sasslow.

00:24:36

I look good in red.

00:24:37

This is the Dan Levitar Show.

00:24:46

Do we have Tony? Tony is upstairs. He's at— he's at— he's at a pool here at the Elser, the same way Aaron Donald does his workout routines there at the pool, presumably in his backyard. Let's connect with Tony here as he is going to try the Aaron Donald workout where he holds the 5-gallon jug Upside Down. Hello, Tony, there you are on top of the building in a pool. Look at that.

00:25:14

Hey, hey, Zazz. Yeah, we're here at the Elster Pool. The beach part of the pool is beautiful here. The water is nice and warm. So I've got the 5-gallon jug right here. I've got 2 of them that we can try. Um, obviously, as you remember in the video, if we can play it, um, he does the first just single gallon. Yeah, so we'll do that right now. Okay, this, this should be pretty easy.

00:25:33

Yeah, I could do that.

00:25:34

That's not a problem. Really pay attention. Kind of go— can you give us a side look? We want to see how much shaking we got from your arm here. Yeah, like you're a little too straight on that. That's the angle we want.

00:25:43

The handle makes it easier, right?

00:25:44

Okay, okay.

00:25:45

No shaking there.

00:25:46

Yeah, the, the gallon— the gallon is nothing. The gallon is super easy. I'm not worried about the gallon. Now the 5-gallon is— I, I haven't cheated and lifted it because I want it to be the first time we lift it.

00:25:58

I mean, I'll tell you, Tony, I, I changed— I, I heavy Tony, I have a machine, I have a cooler in my home with those exact water jugs. I had to change it out yesterday. I'm using— Greg, I'm carrying it with two arms up against my chest to get it over from under the staircase to the water cooler. Go ahead, Tony.

00:26:22

Yeah, all right boys, so here we go. I'm going to try and lift it to where it doesn't get wet because in the video I think he already has it open, doesn't he?

00:26:30

Yeah.

00:26:30

Once he turns it, there's water dripping out. Yes.

00:26:32

Okay.

00:26:33

Yeah.

00:26:33

All right, here we go.

00:26:34

This is not going to work.

00:26:34

You got to get a good grip on the palm.

00:26:36

Yours is open?

00:26:36

Yours is open, correct?

00:26:37

This is going to go so poorly.

00:26:38

Yeah, it's open. It's open. It's open. Let me dry it really quick so I have a better grip.

00:26:43

Aaron Donald's technique was hand over, like not holding it like a beer bottle, but the opposite direction.

00:26:52

It's probably the most— it's sneaky the most impressive part. He lifts it up the way like It's insane the way he does this.

00:26:57

This won't go well for Tony, I'm sorry.

00:26:59

Yeah, this is a person who is one of the strongest people of all time.

00:27:03

That's right.

00:27:04

So he holds it like this and then just turns it over like if it's nothing. So, all right, we'll try it this way.

00:27:09

You're not even going to get out.

00:27:10

No, he has a reverse grip.

00:27:12

He has a reverse grip.

00:27:12

He had a reverse grip.

00:27:13

Let's see if he uses his left arm at all. Like this?

00:27:15

No, no, no, the other way.

00:27:17

Other way.

00:27:17

Let's show Aaron Donald. Hit play on Aaron Donald's, guys. Yeah, like, or just keep it right there.

00:27:25

Yeah, he's, he's holding it as if he's pouring something.

00:27:27

All right, so he does use his left hand to lift it up a little, as if he's gripping a baseball bat, taking a left-handed swing.

00:27:35

Okay, so Tony, you can get it up there however you can.

00:27:38

Yeah, he's doing that so the cooler rests on the top of his hand.

00:27:42

Just try it.

00:27:42

Gotcha.

00:27:43

Okay, yeah, do whatever way you feel comfortable to steady it.

00:27:46

Yeah.

00:27:46

Okay, I'm gonna do this. I'm gonna grab my left hand and I'm gonna steady it. Yeah, we'll hold it up. Are you ready?

00:27:51

Just be Aaron Donald.

00:27:52

Go ahead.

00:27:54

Here we go.

00:27:55

3, 2, 1. All right, it's up now. Now he's using— whoa! Oh, he's trying to steady it again.

00:28:03

He's got it up very far.

00:28:04

Extend it!

00:28:05

Oh, he's doing it!

00:28:08

He's doing it!

00:28:08

He's doing it!

00:28:09

He needed help for the start.

00:28:10

Give me a little extension!

00:28:11

Do it for your daughter! Do it for your daughter! He's doing it! Oh my God, it gets easier the longer you hold it. He's gonna do it. Wow, he did it!

00:28:22

That's a win.

00:28:22

Look at that. That is a W. That's incredible.

00:28:26

We could definitely nitpick, but he did way better than any of us.

00:28:30

Incredible. Now look, he had to steady it a couple times with that left arm, but nonetheless, he, he accomplished it for his daughter. That was incredible. Now do it again.

00:28:41

Wow, again with your left hand without steadying it. Yeah, I want to see, like, if it's about to fall, let it fall.

00:28:49

I gotta tell you something, as Tony's wiping off, uh, his face, he got the water everywhere, of course, uh, and he's gonna try another one now. He's gonna open up another 5-liter, and that, that was incredible. I don't even care that he had to steady it, like he had a hard time at first, but he, he never let go.

00:29:07

Very impressive.

00:29:09

So, so how are you going to do it differently now?

00:29:11

He's going to try to not steady it as much.

00:29:13

Okay. All right.

00:29:14

Now that he's got a better idea of how to steer.

00:29:16

The problem is you're tired.

00:29:17

In my mind, I see, I see Aaron Donald and what he's doing is he's, he's doing like a vortex motion to get the tornado out of the water. Right. Which makes it go faster.

00:29:28

Aaron Donald.

00:29:29

So that's what I was trying to do.

00:29:31

All right.

00:29:32

Well, don't worry about the contact. Aaron Donald used his offhand to just get it up. Right, just then his hand never touched it again.

00:29:38

Just guiding it up. He like puts the left hand away instantly.

00:29:43

Yeah, he drinks. He also drinks like a beverage with the other hand.

00:29:46

He's also the strongest human you've ever seen, right?

00:29:50

Correct, correct.

00:29:51

I can't believe the, I can't believe the, the feat of athleticism we just witnessed from Tony.

00:29:58

All right, here we go. We're gonna do one more.

00:29:59

All right, come on, Tony. Here we go.

00:30:01

The grip strength The grip strength is insane on this. This is crazy. All right, here we go, here we go, here we go. Oh, it's wet.

00:30:10

Are we going?

00:30:11

Oh, my bad, guys. Yeah, hold on, it keeps— the water— this one got filled up a little too much.

00:30:17

Okay, so we'll let you—

00:30:18

the water drips out when I try to dump a little out.

00:30:21

Whatever, let me pour for the homies.

00:30:23

There you go.

00:30:24

Okay, that's it, that's it right there.

00:30:26

Now you're pouring that into the pool at the Elser. I mean, that's regular water. Is that salt water or Saltwater pool or chlorine? What are we doing there?

00:30:33

It's fine.

00:30:34

This is a chlorine pool.

00:30:36

Okay, here we go.

00:30:38

Taste the water. Tell me what—

00:30:39

lift it up, then just pour it on Danny B.

00:30:41

Stick your mouth in.

00:30:44

Shampoo your hair while you're there.

00:30:47

Oh, he's, he's drinking.

00:30:48

He's just drinking.

00:30:49

Interesting. Why tire him out?

00:30:51

All right, no, it's good. It's, it's, it's, it's—

00:30:53

yeah, I wanted you to drink the pool fresh water, but okay.

00:30:57

Oh, the pool water you want me to drink? Oh, okay.

00:30:59

Here we go.

00:31:00

3, 2— okay, he's lifted it. Oh, he's not using it. Oh yeah! Wow, he's doing it!

00:31:08

Extend it for your daughter! Extend it for your daughter!

00:31:10

Wow, arm out! Oh yeah, unbelievable, unbelievable, dude! I'm impressed.

00:31:16

He did it really good.

00:31:17

I'm impressed. With no help from his— oh yeah, unbelievable!

00:31:22

I mean Different, but still super impressive.

00:31:24

Summer of Tony.

00:31:25

Woo!

00:31:27

Dad, having watched that, you think you could do that?

00:31:29

I'm going to start with a quart. Wow.

00:31:32

That was an incredible display of strength.

00:31:35

Half gallon, maybe.

00:31:37

Congratulations, Tony.

00:31:38

Unbelievable.

00:31:38

Excellent.

00:31:39

Now, Tony.

00:31:40

Woo!

00:31:40

Tony, true or false? You did not believe you were going to be able to do it.

00:31:46

At all.

00:31:47

At all.

00:31:47

So true.

00:31:48

When we tried earlier yesterday when we had gotten the waters, yeah. No, true, I didn't think I was gonna be able to do it. When we got the gallons shipped yesterday and I tried to pick them up, I was like, there's no way that I can do this with one hand. And sometimes, you know, when you put your mind to it, zaz, you can make anything happen.

00:32:06

So does anyone else here who I would have to believe has no belief that they'd be able to do this now think that they can since they saw Tony do it?

00:32:17

All right, so technically, like, does this take away from Aaron Donald at all? No, no, because Aaron Donald did things like he held it out straight-armed and, and he really treated it like it was nothing.

00:32:28

Mike and I don't want this to sound like we are criticizing what Tony just—

00:32:31

what Tony did was super insanely impressive, but it's not the exact—

00:32:36

Aaron Donald extended it much earlier, but it's still what Tony did. 90% of our audience could not do what Tony—

00:32:44

yeah, just the wrist, uh, the wrist strength alone. My, my wrist would probably buckle just trying to get that.

00:32:50

I told you, I think I'd break my wrist.

00:32:52

Yeah, I, I tried it a little bit. I'm like, nope, nope, not at all. That, that was really impressive, Tony.

00:33:00

Yeah, he was, he was out to here. Like, obviously his arm is much bigger than mine, so his was not full extension out, but it was about 85% of an extension where I was a little bit of gator arm until I finally got probably to like 3 gallons where I was able to extend it out. But the problem is it's so top-heavy that if you don't have the control, it kind of flips on you, which is why I had to like catch it the first time. I'd say that was incredible.

00:33:22

Me and Eric, well done, Tony.

00:33:25

We have this for you, Greg, if you want to come do this. Um, you have a full gallon, Greg, if you'd like to turn over a gallon.

00:33:30

I want to start with a half gallon, but thank you.

00:33:34

All right, now Tony, now, uh, now taste the water in the pool.

00:33:37

I don't want to taste the water in the pool.

00:33:40

Okay.

00:33:41

All right.

00:33:42

All right.

00:33:43

Come on back. Good job, Tony.

00:33:44

Yeah, it's chlorine.

00:33:45

Oh yeah, chlorine.

00:33:46

People pee in that.

00:33:48

He tried it.

00:33:49

Yeah.

00:33:49

All right. Greg, you got a chlorine pool or saltwater?

00:33:53

Uh, regular pool.

00:33:54

What? Chlorine, huh?

00:33:55

Yeah.

00:33:56

Still going with the chlorine.

00:33:57

Yeah. Why, is that bad?

00:33:58

I got a saltwater pool.

00:33:59

I don't like saltwater. That's why I rarely go to the ocean.

00:34:01

My dad—

00:34:02

you know, it's not the same as the ocean.

00:34:03

It's not—

00:34:04

my pool, like, isn't like the ocean though.

00:34:05

Yeah, I think it is.

00:34:06

Outside of the occasional shower, my dad has not gone in his pool since chlorine was the only option. Has salt— have saltwater pools been around? Because I know they're way more popular now. Yeah, maybe they've been around for a while, but my dad doesn't even like— he's so out of the pool game of going in the pool. He's probably learning right now that saltwater pools is a thing.

00:34:23

No, I go in my pool regularly, but I don't like a saltwater pool. I'm the kind of guy who, um, prefers what I call a regular pool, which is not saltwater. Chlorine.

00:34:34

What saltwater pools have you been in?

00:34:37

It's called the ocean.

00:34:38

Exactly.

00:34:40

We're talking about—

00:34:41

that's not it.

00:34:41

It's about 8 miles east.

00:34:43

He's thinking it's the ocean in his pool and it's not.

00:34:46

Okay, can we have a moment of truth here for a second? When I say to you I have a saltwater pool, right, do you think that if you went into my pool it's like the ocean?

00:34:56

I think that if I accidentally took a gulp of water, I would taste the salt. Sure.

00:35:01

No, it's not that real. You feel so much better after getting out of a saltwater pool. Like, my in-laws have a saltwater pool.

00:35:07

We go over there, like, you don't smell like chlorine.

00:35:09

You like feel it. I need a shower after chlorine. A saltwater pool, it's much less.

00:35:14

Really?

00:35:14

Meh.

00:35:15

Yeah, and if you open your eyes— are you an open your eye underwater guy? No, not really, because, you know, the chlorine will mess you up.

00:35:20

Shampoo will get in his eyes.

00:35:21

Yeah, well, so will salt. You don't want to open your eyes underwater with salt.

00:35:25

Um, no, but it's fine. No, the chlorine though mess you up. You don't open your eyes underwater? No. So are you goggles? You wear goggles in your pool?

00:35:32

No, I don't do that either.

00:35:33

So how do you see where you're going when you're underwater?

00:35:35

Because I know if I'm swimming a lap in the pool—

00:35:37

You know the dimensions?

00:35:37

I know how many strokes it takes.

00:35:39

He's either in the pool for two reasons. One, he's taking a shower.

00:35:42

No, I'm washing my hair. I'm not— I don't call it a shower.

00:35:45

Or two, he's got a Miller Lite in his hand. There's no underwater swimming.

00:35:51

Right, I'm luxuriating.

00:35:52

Right.

00:35:53

In my—

00:35:53

do you always have a beer in hand when you're in the pool?

00:35:55

Not always. Frequently.

00:35:57

You're laughing while saying that.

00:35:59

Like, if you're gonna have a beer, it's like, all right, now let me go get in the pool, right?

00:36:02

It's, uh, traditional.

00:36:04

I like it.

00:36:04

It's beers.

00:36:05

It's, it's a relaxation thing. It's like when I used to smoke cigars. I did it for the act of smoking a cigar, the ritual of it.

00:36:12

When you smoke cigars, would you ask for the smoking section?

00:36:16

Uh, well, I smoke in my garage, which is a smoking section.

00:36:19

Have you ever smoked on an airplane?

00:36:21

No.

00:36:22

How about at a restaurant?

00:36:24

No.

00:36:25

You sure?

00:36:25

No.

00:36:26

In the '80s?

00:36:26

On the beat?

00:36:27

No.

00:36:28

On the beat, light up a stogie?

00:36:29

Edwin Pope's lighting one up, you're like, I'll take one.

00:36:31

I think I have smoked a cigar in a casino. I think I have done that.

00:36:36

There has to have been, you know, the smoking section and the non-smoking section in a restaurant. The first table in the non-smoking, right? How much space was in between?

00:36:47

You know, you would walk into a restaurant, it would smell like smoke.

00:36:50

Like, that's an awful awful— no, I need non-smoking, you know, I got kids with me. But you're in the first non-smoking booth.

00:36:57

I can remember the, the yellowish hue of a cloud sitting over a section at Outback Steakhouse.

00:37:02

Clouds, it's wild, right?

00:37:04

I imagine, like, do they put it near the kitchen so the kitchen smell maybe fights? I'm just thinking, if I'm back in that day designing a restaurant, I'm gonna put— I don't know, I'm trying to hide the smoking stuff.

00:37:14

I think it should be a separate room. Right? Like, it should be a smoking room.

00:37:18

There were dividers, but they wouldn't go all the way to the ceiling.

00:37:21

I'm telling you, man, flying used to be different. Used to be able to smoke on planes. I was right. I've been on planes when people were smoking. Used to be able to smoke on planes. Used to be able to visit the cockpit mid-flight. I'd be sitting in the cockpit with the captain during the flight.

00:37:37

During?

00:37:38

I remember before.

00:37:39

Yes!

00:37:40

Yes! Greg, you used to be able to visit the cockpit in flight if you were a kid.

00:37:44

Why would you want to?

00:37:45

Why? What?

00:37:46

I was a kid. Why wouldn't I want to go in the cockpit during the flight?

00:37:48

It was terrifying.

00:37:50

No, it was exciting flying, man.

00:37:52

Those are the days.
