00:00:46

Hello? This is our— what?

00:00:46

Continue.

00:00:46

Is she normally in the studio? That's David Dworkin of The Hockey News, Rose and Ethan in the shipping container. My name is Roy Bellamy. This is The Hockey Show. You can find us on our YouTube page at The Hockey Show DLS. On TikTok @TheHockeyShow7 and on X, Instagram, and Threads @HockeyShowDLS. The Hockey Show was off last week because I was busy getting beaten by a bunch of kids in a barbecue contest. You can watch that video on The Levittard Show YouTube. By the way, Dave, Jody, and Chico, who were a part of the Meet Dave team along with myself, we deserve the better fate. We were better than those damn kids. All right. Let's get that straight right now. And you can check that video out, as I said, because it was produced by NF edited by Rosie with the specific— with the intent on making me look like a jackass. Thank you very much.

00:01:35

No, you did not look like a jackass. I'm so sorry.

00:01:38

Yeah, I know you're not. You're not sorry.

00:01:40

You did. You did. You talked. I just filmed.

00:01:43

Okay, well, you talk too.

00:01:45

What are you talking about? I film. It's not that hard.

00:01:47

No, I mean, you talk too. You had a microphone next to you.

00:01:50

Yeah, yeah, I actually, um, got a fish. Well, Roy got the fish. And I try to take out the thing. It's very difficult, like the spines go to you. And then Roy was like, you just killed her.

00:02:03

You let Rose around a sharp object?

00:02:05

She picked it up. I was like, oh my God, dude.

00:02:08

But Roy was like, you just killed her. That's how I was like, no, don't die on me, fish.

00:02:13

Nemo, no.

00:02:14

Yeah, Nemo, no. So yeah, I took the hook out and threw the fish back.

00:02:18

I would have been the same.

00:02:19

No, I took it.

00:02:20

You didn't.

00:02:20

I did take it.

00:02:21

No, you never— you didn't take it from anyone because I did.

00:02:24

I took the hook out of the fish. Literally.

00:02:26

The video says roll the tapes.

00:02:29

There's one mark, like, line of demarcation on whether this was a successful trip or not. What did you lose last year? You lost the hat, you lost your wallet, but we, we, we got to go fishing in like the dump for your wallet, didn't you?

00:02:41

Yeah. No, this time, this time my wallet's staying in my car. Um, I just had one backpack and my hat was floating, so whenever I lost it, we could go get it back.

00:02:52

Well, Dave had his hat fly off first, which was not something I was expecting.

00:02:59

No, that's a rookie move.

00:03:00

Yeah, that would be her move.

00:03:02

Right, he probably felt a little embarrassed.

00:03:04

Excuse me, but it's my second time, so it's not rookie.

00:03:07

Well, that's why you didn't lose your hat this time.

00:03:08

This is sophomore time. Anyway, as I said, there was no hockey show last week. That meant there was no trade deadline talk, so that we missed last week. We might as well talk about the trade deadline now. So what was the biggest surprise and then one of the bigger moves that you thought that happened last week Friday, David?

00:03:26

I mean, I was a little surprised, I guess, that the Panthers didn't do much.

00:03:30

And we'll talk about that more in a little bit. But yeah, excuse me, I'm sorry, I should have said that first. I was wondering what was— I was beginning to say something. Oh yes, we had Panther then. We could talk about the Panthers moves in a little bit. But yes, as you were saying, Let's see, top trade deadline moves.

00:03:45

There wasn't really any big splashes.

00:03:47

I was just going to say there were no big surprises.

00:03:49

There was like— I'm trying to like racking my brain for anything that jumped out and smacked me in the face. Why don't you go ahead then? Because you kind of said John Carlson move.

00:03:55

Yes, that was it. 17 years with the Washington Capitals. He gets traded to Vegas. That is Anaheim. I'm sorry, Anaheim.

00:04:02

But the biggest move is a guy who's like been in the league for two decades.

00:04:05

Yeah, I mean, there are people now, there's a generation of fans that don't know this Capitals team. Without Alexander Ovechkin or John Carlson, right? That's—

00:04:14

they've been around forever.

00:04:15

I mean, I think a lot of the big business this year got done before the deadline. So the Jari trade, the Quinn Hughes trade obviously occurred— when was that? Back in December or November.

00:04:26

Yeah.

00:04:26

You know, the John Carlson trade was the surprising trade because nobody really had him on their radars. And I love that move for Anaheim to go get some veteran experience to pair with all the young talent that they have out there, especially at their blue line. Like, I think that move will really help them a lot. But overall, like, it was a pretty quiet deadline, guys. The most surprising thing to me, and you guys can tell me what you think about this, is the lack of movement from some of these teams, especially in my opinion Carolina. I don't understand why Carolina— they're— the East is wide open. It's right there for the taking for them, and they didn't go out and do anything except get DeLaurier. I don't know why the Oilers didn't make another move in net. Like, I thought they might after the Jari thing went so south. But yeah. I think the big surprises were the lack of movement rather than the actual movement itself.

00:05:15

Well, what would Carolina need in this situation?

00:05:17

They always need a second line center and goaltending. Like, they still just have been calling out for a second line center for years and they can't get rid of Jesper Kåtka-Niemi. They just got DeLaurier. Like, Ehlers, it looks like he's going to be out for a while. Like, that happened right after the deadline where they did again nothing virtually. Like, man, they just they just never go for it. They always hold on to all these prospects that they have and they never go out and make a big move.

00:05:44

I think the big move— or not the big move, but the move Carolina should have made was made by Colorado instead, and Colorado's probably gonna win the Stanley Cup, and that was acquiring Nick Waugh from Toronto. Yeah, like a great two-way center, can play, you know, middle-six type role. He's really what Carolina could use, just depth. They can pop some offense in there. Colorado, I mean, last year they got Brock Nelson, Now they get Nick Waugh. They're already a wagon with Nathan McKinnon, Cale Makar. They got two amazing goalies with the name Wood in their last name.

00:06:11

I mean, I thought you were going to say Nazem Khadri. You said Nick Waugh, but I thought you were going to say Khadri for the Colorado Avalanche. And a guy that— that's also a good move the Hurricanes should have gotten because that's another guy that could be there. I mean, he would be the 2C on Carolina. He's obviously the 2C in Colorado as well unless he's playing on the wing. But he's just not— that's a great player, and that was a great move by Colorado in my opinion to bring that guy back. He— it feels like he's been the missing link for them for a few years since they last won a cup and some of the struggles they've had since.

00:06:42

Uh, do you have anything else on the trade deadline?

00:06:45

Um, next year will be more fun, probably.

00:06:48

Rose, you just went—

00:06:49

yeah, no, I really just— a blah trade deadline.

00:06:52

It was. Yeah, it was. We were waiting around for a big move to happen, and it was like Justin Falk going to Detroit, you know what I mean? Was like the big move.

00:07:03

I'm excited to see how the playoffs roll out though, because like now obviously the Panthers probably not going to be around. We're going to be able to— what we haven't done in a few years, which is kind of sit back and enjoy it and analyze it a little bit differently.

00:07:12

Rest.

00:07:13

Yeah, well, we don't have to travel, you know, cross-continent, multiple flights. We don't have to do that. Yeah, that'll be nice.

00:07:18

I don't know, punch your chance all of a sudden, guys.

00:07:22

The most interesting thing that happened in the trade deadline was Roy trying to get, uh, service in the, in the boat because we We didn't have service, so we couldn't know anything. So he was like, where do I get my service?

00:07:34

Yeah, I was reaching out in the air. Oh my God, my phone is going to help.

00:07:38

Yeah.

00:07:38

Ask you guys one more hockey question real quick.

00:07:40

No, no.

00:07:40

Okay.

00:07:41

No, go ahead.

00:07:42

Robert Thomas staying. What did you guys think about that? Because that was the big name out there that was kind of like could be moved. St. Louis is kind of in the middle right now. Nobody really kind of knows what direction they're going to go in. There were some teams out there that could have used them. What did you guys think about him staying put?

00:07:56

Yeah, I mean, what are the Blues— they're not going to make the playoffs this year. So, no, I mean, they're effectively sellers. So the Blues at the moment are—

00:08:05

they're 6 points out of a playoff spot. I don't think 2 more games played than San Jose, who I think I had as a playoff team.

00:08:12

Yeah. Yes, you did.

00:08:14

But yeah, I was a little surprised too, Ethan, because Bennington was on the market. He didn't go anywhere. Thomas has been on fire though. Like, I understand, like, he would have drawn a 26-year-old center.

00:08:22

I understand wanting to keep him and build around him as well. But they could have gotten, especially with the prices at this deadline, Oh my God.

00:08:28

Yep.

00:08:31

Okay, several illegal things happened recently. First, the Malkin slash on the shoulder of Dahlin in the Penguins-Sabres game.

00:08:41

Not his face?

00:08:41

Not his face. It was his shoulder. They said it was his shoulder, but yeah, dude, look at that. He just got whacked where the pads are on his shoulder. It was not a match penalty for high sticking. It was a slash. That could have been That could have been either way. That was a full-fledged two-hand chop. That was, that was ridiculous. Uh, so Malkin ended up with a 5-game suspension on that one. On Tuesday, the Oilers and Avalanche got together, and Nathan MacKinnon, while skating parallel to the goal line, tipped the shot wide. Okay, but his momentum carried him through the crease and, uh, collided with Connor Ingram. Um, but the refs gave MacKinnon a major for goaltender interference end-of-game misconduct. The major was rescinded by the NHL, by the way, so he won't be getting a suspension if he had another one sooner or later. And last— I'm sorry, go ahead.

00:09:31

No, you can't have your Hart Trophy candidate missing games like that. It's just not good luck.

00:09:34

No, no. And last night, Rako Gudas, trying to poke check the puck away from Auston Matthews, collided with the knee of Matthews. Gudas was given a game misconduct. The Maple Leafs just never responded to the captain or the best player on the team. Getting injured like that on knee-on-knee collision. Never responded, not a single fight, not a single tussle, uh, on, on Rako Goudis. I don't know if they were intimidated by him or anything like that, but you gotta step up for your captain, and they did not do that. So Goudis got a— is going to have a phone hearing, not an in-person hearing. So that pretty much means there's a suspension coming, a suspension coming, but it's going to be 5 games or less most likely. Uh, what did you think about these 3 incidents that happened?

00:10:20

You didn't even mention Brandon Hagel going after Rasmus Rasmus Dahlin, he got fined. Yes. I don't know what Rasmus Dahlin is doing to piss people off. Yeah. No, look, it's hockey. I mean, the McKinnon thing I didn't think was intentional, so I'm glad that, like, and look, I'm very hypersensitive to violence against goaltenders, but I thought that was okay. The Guttis thing, knee hits are, you know, they're always funky. Radko Guttis, I think he's cleaned up his reputation over the last 5, 6 years. Like when he, when he first went to Florida, it was like, oh God, Radko Guttis. But he was he toned it down. Like, he's a violent physical player, but he's not headhunting like he may have been in early of his career.

00:10:58

But it wasn't even knee hunting in that situation. It was an attempt at a poke check.

00:11:02

Yeah, I don't know about that, boys.

00:11:05

Okay, maybe he hit—

00:11:06

I think colliding with Auston Matthews' knee was a light way to put it. Uh, he, he kind of stuck his leg out.

00:11:13

That was putting yourself in a position to get hurt too, though.

00:11:16

Like, it's not like you can just stick your leg out and you're like, okay, I'll be fine. Like, that's a dangerous place. So when anybody accuses somebody of doing that on purpose, I always— not saying Ethan's wrong, I just always pause because like you could really bleep up your own leg, your own knee there too. It's happened before.

00:11:30

I mean, it's like Nikita Kucherov in that kneeing incident against Matthew Tkachuk. I mean, what do we say about that?

00:11:36

I've put that to the back of my mind.

00:11:39

I have plenty of thoughts about it.

00:11:40

It was a very sensitive time and just glad Chucky turned out to be okay after that. Uh-huh.

00:11:45

Sure.

00:11:46

I have plenty of thoughts about Nikita Kucherov's antics on the ice.

00:11:50

You're a big Kucherov fan. I'm surprised you didn't wear a Kucherov jersey today.

00:11:52

He's a dirty player.

00:11:54

He's a very dirty player.

00:11:55

I mean, straight up, Rosie.

00:11:58

I got something to say. Matthews—

00:11:59

That's why you put your finger up.

00:12:00

Yeah. That happened to Matthews, that's what's gonna get him out in 2 years and he's gonna come to the Florida Panthers. That's why he's gonna be out of the team.

00:12:11

You're saying that Auston Matthews is gonna be a Panther?

00:12:13

Auston Matthews, Brady Tkachuk, they're all coming down. All the Canadian captains.

00:12:17

He doesn't want to be in Toronto anymore.

00:12:19

So the American captains in Canada, they're coming to the Panthers after the 2 years.

00:12:23

He's got to be like, oh, Panthers, bye.

00:12:25

Unbelievable. Okay, so everybody's coming to the Panthers in 2 years, man.

00:12:28

If I'm not dead.

00:12:29

If you're— I'm sure you're going to be with it. Don't put that on the universe.

00:12:33

If you're not, or if he's not.

00:12:34

Oh, me?

00:12:36

Don't put that on the universe, woman.

00:12:38

You go to church every Sunday. You're going to be fine. Oh, it's us sinners that we got to worry about.

00:12:43

I go to church every Sunday.

00:12:45

Dying is not bad.

00:12:46

Huh?

00:12:47

Dying is not bad.

00:12:48

Well, for you maybe.

00:12:49

Yeah, of course, because I know where I'm going.

00:12:51

This has taken a turn.

00:12:52

Yeah, right.

00:12:55

I'm just saying, the man—

00:12:55

I mean, he's gonna die from a neon knee contact.

00:12:57

Ethan, do you have any thoughts on this existential crisis that we're having right now?

00:13:00

No, I've got too much going on right now. I got a lot going on. I'm juggling a lot of things. Let's go.

00:13:05

Get Percy in here.

00:13:07

Percy's under the desk. Percy's under the desk. Let me get it.

00:13:09

Percy's gonna live forever. Uh, the Panther Street, correct? Hey, I'm trying to talk here, woman. All right, the Panthers trade deadline saw them lose a player. That was Jeff Petry. He, uh, the team got a 7th round draft pick from Minnesota for him. They also made another deal with Minnesota, Benny Henostroza. So they got him, but they did not deal Sergei Bobrovsky or AJ Greer, and instead they will try to negotiate new contracts with them. Um, they're gonna have to decide whether to shut down Brad Marchand or actually play Alexander Barkov at the end of the season just for him to get, I guess, reps or whatever. They still have that protected, uh, top 10 pick that they will be able to keep if they again are in the worst 10 teams in the league. Um, so there's a lot of variables up in the air for a team that seems to be very prideful, uh, that do— that does not seem like they want to tank at all given the results, uh, in both games versus Detroit and last night versus Columbus. What say you, David?

00:14:10

Uh, as it stands, the Panthers are the 12th worst team in the league, but they're only 2 points, 2 points out of dropping all the way to like 7th. Um, it's a tough situation to analyze, just be— to predict rather, just because like, you know, as you said, the Panthers are full of pride. They're going to go out there and they're going to give whatever they have every night. It's just how much do they have to give and who can they put on the ice at this point? We've seen Sam Reinhart miss time. We've seen Anton Lindell miss time. We know that Brad Marchand's going to miss extended time. Barkov is skating, but is he going to play? I don't know. Does it matter? Like getting reps, maybe, you know, you're going to have to deal with the salary cap soon because Seth Jones is about to come back. That's going to cost them money against the cap. I think they've got like $2.5 million. They're going to have to make like another $1.3 or whatever it is to make room for Seth. But it's just so many balls are in the air right now for a season that's, you know, essentially over.

00:14:56

I think at this point you're just setting up for— you're setting yourself up as best you can for next year.

00:15:00

Yeah, we saw the lineups. Against the home game versus Detroit and last night. They are playing the young players right now. And yeah, good on Benning coming in for his first game. He got the game-winning assist in overtime.

00:15:13

Yeah, that was nice. Look, he's somebody who was drafted in 2020, so he's been around for a while. High, high-end prospect as the Panthers brought him in. He's been really good for Charlotte. He's been a consistent source of offense from their blue line over the last, I think, like 3 or 4 weeks. He had really turned it up. In terms of offensive contributions. So it's good to see that they're giving him a chance to show what he can do at this level. They could use young guys that are going to be cheap moving forward. So the more AHL, the more draft pick type guys that they could bring in and they can have contribute at the NHL level, the better.

00:15:42

Percy has a lot of thoughts.

00:15:43

Hold on, we don't have time for this.

00:15:46

Uh, no, I, I, I actually have a lot of thoughts on the Panthers. Uh, first of all, I think—

00:15:50

just stop, Percy.

00:15:51

I think Bill Zito sent a clear message that the Panthers truly believe that if they had not suffered all these injuries this year, especially the Barkov one, they could have and would have won the Stanley Cup.

00:16:01

Yeah, clearly.

00:16:02

I think he sent a clear message that they think they can just do it again next year with pretty much the same exact squad. They'll have a little bit of financial flexibility to make some adds, probably at the bottom of the roster, I would assume.

00:16:12

Oh, by the way, the cap's going up.

00:16:13

And the cap's going up, and they're probably gonna have to add another goaltender next year. So we'll see what they try and do, and obviously if they end up with the top 10 pick, maybe the the balls bounce your way and you get somebody really special. But anyway, that's besides the point. I think the other point is just that—

00:16:28

I think that's besides the point.

00:16:29

That's really important. No, that—

00:16:30

I think Rose just stumbled into a situation that's going to piss the entire world off.

00:16:33

It would be amazing. It would be the greatest thing.

00:16:35

It'd be worse than when Crosby and Flower went to the Penguins back to back.

00:16:38

Yeah, it would be amazing if they ended up— you miss out on the playoffs, you take a year off in the middle of your window, and you end up with the number 1 overall pick and a player that some had compared, like put in that generational type tier in Gavin McKenna. But I think it's pretty clear to the Panthers they believe in what they're doing. They believe in Sergei Bobrovsky. Look at how he's played in the last two starts since the trade deadline. Look at how the Panthers have played as well. And, and they're coming back and they're going to remind everybody— they're going to use the rest of this year to remind everybody we're not going anywhere.

00:17:10

All right. So let's say they do end up in the worst 10. They keep the pick. They don't get number one pick. All right. So they don't get Gavin McKinnon. Do you go after Do you draft the goaltender or do you go with a position player in whatever spot they're going to end up getting?

00:17:24

Honestly, I think if the Panthers end up keeping their— end up with their draft pick, if it ends up being a top 10 pick, unless the McKenna situation happens, uh, I'd actually be kind of surprised if they ended up making that pick. I agree. I think that's a pretty solid asset. Uh, this offseason is going to be a little funky in terms of free agency. It's not like a huge market, so it would not surprise me at all to see that turn into a movable asset for Bill Zito. However, if they do make the pick, I would say you get the— like, right now, this draft, they're going to be some decent talent in the top half of the top draft, the top, top half of the first round. Speed, David, Christ.

00:17:59

Um, it's been a long morning.

00:18:00

Yeah. So, but no, like, I, I think ultimately the Panthers are in such a win-now mode for the next several years that bringing in somebody that couldn't contribute fairly soon almost goes against what they've been trying to do. So hopefully they have that asset to move, but we'll see how it plays out.

00:18:15

That win-now mentality is why I think you saw guys like AJ Greer and Jesper Boquist and others stick around, because they know that AJ Greer is more valuable to winning a championship next year should he extend with the Panthers, which all signs point to the fact that he wants to. Uh, they know he's more valuable to winning a championship next year than a first-round pick would be, unless obviously that first-round pick is Gavin McKenna, which if you're trading Greer for a first-round pick, that's not happening, you know, you're getting a late first round pick probably because you're getting it from a playoff team. The other thing is, I think they should move that, use that first round pick. Like, I would go after Jesper Wallstedt. That's the guy I would go after because there's a little bit of clutter in that goaltending situation in Minnesota right now. He's a young goalie. He can be the future of your team, and he has shown he can be the number one in net in Minnesota, in my opinion, this year. That's the guy I would go after with a top 10 pick.

00:19:08

All right. It's time for Puck Luck, brought to you by DraftKings. DraftKings, the crown is yours. David, go ahead.

00:19:14

Only 2 games on the slate tonight, but I think we dissected some value. So let's get started with the Edmonton Oilers-St. Louis Blues game. We're going to go Evan Bouchard over 2.5 shots on goal. He's hit that in 4 of his last 6. The Blues give up 28 shots per game and the 3rd most shots on goal to defensemen. We're also in that game going to take Robert Thomas getting a point. Edmonton has given up the most goals in the NHL over the last 10 games, and Robert Thomas has points in 8 straight, 13 points during that span, Roy. Third leg, Joel Hofer over 25.5 saves. St. Louis is allowing over 30 shots a game over their past 10, just under 30, 29.5 shots per game over the last 10 at home, and Edmonton likes to put pucks on net. And just to add a little bit of value, a little sprinkle, a little bit of extra to this, we're gonna take Bo Horvat in the Kings-Islanders game, an alternate line, over 2.5 shots on goal. He's hit that number in 8 of his last 9. The Kings give up the 4th most shots on goal to centers and the 7th most shots to forwards.

00:20:08

Total odds on this parlay is +575. Let's go make some money.

00:20:12

Alright, it's time for wins and fails. Go ahead, Dave.

00:20:14

Man, you didn't give me a chance to breathe, did you?

00:20:16

I'm sorry, we gotta hurry up.

00:20:18

My win of the week, it's kind of a sad win. Colin Dorgan, this young man lost his mother, his brother, and his grandfather in the shooting at the Pawtucket, Rhode Island hockey rink a couple weeks ago. He went out and scored the game-winning goal for his high school team in their playoff game last week. It was a double overtime goal. For Blackstone Valley, sent them to the Rhode Island Interstellar League Division 2 Boys Hockey Championship game. A very happy moment. The rink went crazy. His teammates just totally mobbed him. It was awesome. So good on Colin. Good for you. Take whatever happiness you can get right now. It's nice to see that the community is really rallying around this family.

00:20:55

Jared Kiso plays the title character on Schwoz. That show has become a giant hit.

00:21:00

Settle down.

00:21:02

Um, yeah, I mean, if you look at my laptop, I got a whole bunch of stickers over here dedicated to the show. Uh, so yeah, that show has become such a giant hit that is now taking the advantage of being a giant hit. They are now barnstorming hockey arenas. They are playing games called the Shorzy Classic in the United States and Canada. And Kiso got emotional, uh, when the Shorzy Classic hit the destination of his favorite NHL team.

00:21:28

Holy smokes, this is where my favorite team on planet Earth plays.

00:21:32

Hi everybody, my name is Jared Kiso.

00:21:36

I'm from Listowel, Ontario.

00:21:38

I play Shorzy.

00:21:40

I want to thank everybody for coming out tonight.

00:21:42

Guys, we are 8,400 strong in this beautiful iconic barn. I can't wait to see how loud you guys get.

00:21:49

He's got such a thick accent.

00:21:51

Yeah, you know, we've done about a dozen of these across North America at this point, but this one is particularly special to me as a lifelong fan, particularly Flames. There's a lot of guys on this bench right here that I idolized growing up.

00:22:08

Gentlemen, I just want to say it is an absolute honor to share the ice with you tonight. Thank you so much for doing this with us. That's the Flames alumni.

00:22:18

He's so serious, but I'm just laughing. I can't—

00:22:19

I never thought I'd get to play in this barn, and just in case I never get to again, I want to say Calgary Flames, I love this team.

00:22:27

I will always love this team. It's Calgary Flames till I die.

00:22:33

So that was nice. That was nice for Jared to be, uh, in a barn, the Saddledome, with all the Flames players that I used to look up to and idolize. That's pretty nice. Ethan, what's your win?

00:22:44

My win of the week?

00:22:46

You gotta think about that.

00:22:47

I gotta think about it. What was my win of the week this week? Oh yeah, okay, the sound is I'm just going to run through this. We were on the— I was watching the broadcast of the Red Wings game on Monday night. The sound is in, but it's going to take too long to download. Sorry, I got thrown off. I'm doing a million things at once right now. We have a lot going on. Okay, so Bob Waschuzin, friend of the show, obviously legend in the Hockey Chat. The Hockey Chat got its first ever shout out on ESPN from Bob Waschuzin. It was a great moment. During— yes, I swear to God, during the Red Wings game, during the Red Wings game on Monday, uh, Bob, uh, they, they— Arda did a highlight of the crazy, you know, uh, Lightning-Sabres game, and they came back to Bob, and Bob told the story of how he got a text in the hockey chat. I promise the sound is in the system, but we just totally forgot to grab it and whatever. So anyway, Bob, shout out to you. We love you, Bob. You're the The absolute best, the voice of the NHL, Bob Vachuzin, giving the chat a shout out.

00:23:51

It was awesome.

00:23:52

All right, we'll play it in the close of the show. Rosie, what's your win? What's your win, Rosie?

00:23:58

It was not that. Whatever that was.

00:24:00

My win is Socios por Accidente. This is a new movie that is going to be in theaters.

00:24:05

Is that Sydney Sweeney's mom?

00:24:05

It isn't. Mom?

00:24:08

It looks like Sydney Sweeney's mom on the left.

00:24:09

No, no, no, that's Angelique Boyer and Barbara de Regil. It's a comedy, guys. Go watch the trailer if you speak Spanish. That's my win of the week.

00:24:20

Well, dude, I can appreciate beauty.

00:24:21

Okay, what's your fail, David?

00:24:23

I appreciate beauty.

00:24:24

Thank you.

00:24:24

Come on.

00:24:26

My fail, former Sabers enforcer and current TV analyst Rob Ray is not a little guy. He's 6 feet tall, Roy. He's big.

00:24:33

Yeah.

00:24:33

That's nothing to sneeze at, but the other night he had to do an in-game interview with Sabers defenseman Logan Stanley, who stands 6 foot 7 without skates on.

00:24:41

Oh, he's on a box?

00:24:42

He was on a box.

00:24:43

Oh boy.

00:24:44

Many little guys, Ethan, we're familiar with the box. We know the box.

00:24:47

I know all about the box. Whoa.

00:24:49

Do you?

00:24:51

Please play the clip so I can forget that he just said that.

00:24:53

Yeah, sound up.

00:24:56

No, well, he's talking to him. No, I didn't ask for sound, but look, you see the background shot? He's standing on a good foot and a half tall box so they can, you know, be eye level and everything. But that's— I don't care if you're an NHL enforcer or a 5'7" podcast host, that hurts your ego. My fail is for you, Rob Ray. I'm sorry.

00:25:12

My fail of the week is Charlie McAvoy's face.

00:25:16

Poor Charlie McAvoy.

00:25:18

It has been a rough season for McAvoy's mug. Back in November, he took a puck to the face, breaking his jaw. Early February, he caught a Sandusville Madness elbow to the jaw when they— when the Bruins played the Panthers before the Olympics. Last week Thursday, he caught a puck to the face. Uh, on Tuesday, before scoring the game-winner versus the Kings, he went to the locker room, uh, after Sam Hillenius hit him into the glass face-first, losing some more, some more of the remaining teeth that he had.

00:25:48

In the face.

00:25:49

In the face. So this is what he had to say about playing through it. You know, I wish the hits would stop coming, honestly. You know, it's tiring. My mouth, I honestly can't even feel worse. So, but I'll get some work. We got a really good dentist here who's great.

00:26:10

I'm just really happy I'm happy we got 2 points tonight.

00:26:12

Honestly, I didn't feel great or have my stuff tonight, and just to see it go in at the end, and, you know, I kind of feel like all's forgiven, and, you know, I just need to get some rest, and, you know, I'll be better on Thursday. We just keep this thing going. I can hear you laughing with your mic off, Rose. This is not funny. This man's mouth, this man's head has been injured so badly this season.

00:26:37

Yeah, but my timing with the sound effect was great.

00:26:42

It's not even funny. He's hurt. This is a painful situation. Oh my gosh. Ethan, what's your fail?

00:26:48

My fail was me last week.

00:26:50

All right, so that's your fail. Good job. What's your fail, Rosie?

00:26:53

My fail, this is not a fail for me. It's a fail just for Roy because he thinks it's a fail. For me, it's very funny. And I am giving you culture, people. I gave you culture in my win. Culture, Mexican culture, and I'm giving you fishing culture. It's very, very weak.

00:27:10

I look like they should be getting beaten by a bunch of children. That's fantastic.

00:27:15

So we went to Key West and sadly we got bitten by a bunch of children.

00:27:20

So were they actually children or were they the hook?

00:27:24

10-year-old youth team.

00:27:25

So they were actually kids?

00:27:27

They were, they were, yeah, they were lower teenage, like high teens or whatever.

00:27:31

The bar mitzvah boys took you down.

00:27:33

All right, so I don't know if they were Jewish or not.

00:27:37

Sorry, I just, where I went with it, but the age sounds Sounds about right.

00:27:40

All right, quickly, let's talk about the Oscars. Rosie, what do you have?

00:27:43

Well, um, I actually don't enjoy that very much, the Oscars, because it's very—

00:27:48

oh, for crying out loud, is it this week?

00:27:49

The Oscars?

00:27:49

It's Sunday.

00:27:50

It's Sunday, which I'm not going to be here.

00:27:52

We're going to have to add Nan soon to break everything down.

00:27:54

Yeah, no, I know, we're going to break it. But the thing is, 16 Oscars for Sinners— nominations, nominations, sorry— for Sinners. I don't like it because you know what? More than Lord of the Rings, it broke my heart.

00:28:09

Oh, that's real. Oh good Lord.

00:28:12

Yeah, and I don't think Michael B. Jordan should win Best Actor.

00:28:16

I like Ryan Coogler though.

00:28:18

Oh, you should win Best Director.

00:28:20

As director, I think it'd be a shame if Sinners won Best Picture but he didn't win.

00:28:24

Coogler, he works here.

00:28:25

Oh yeah, well, uh, Nobody knows.

00:28:32

It's a great joke.

00:28:33

Oh, there go the rails.

00:28:38

Yeah, so, uh, that's, that's my only thought. So, uh, people were gonna do a live show on Sunday. Well, they're gonna do it. I'm not gonna be here, so, uh, watch it.

00:28:49

All right, for those of you watching on DraftKings Network, check out our YouTube channel because we have Dave Demershek from Football America to share hockey stories. That's Dave Demershek coming up next.

00:28:58

Quick break to tell you about a special Miller Time I had with my good buddy Mochetta. Mochetta texted me the other day. He said, "Hey, what are you doing for the game?" I said, "I'm just on my couch right now doing nothing, enjoying it." He's like, "Hey, do you want some company?" I said, "From you, Mochetta? Absolutely." Mochetta comes over to the house and I pull out the Miller Lite. Miller Lite made that casual hang a memorable good Miller Time with my good friend Mochetta. Because Miller Lite brought us together. We took that first sip after we toasted our beers and we knew we made the right call.

00:29:29

We watched a game. All of a sudden we're standing up on our feet.

Big threes are being drained and white cans are being clanged.

Listen, I'm old, okay? I'm turning 42 this year. David's old, he's turning 43 this year. And this is why our very young producers in the other room are—

00:31:13

I turned 27 this year. I'm old.

00:31:14

I'm 30. I'm old.

00:31:16

No, you're not. No, no, you're not. You guys don't relate to us because you're too damn young. All right, so we brought in a ringer. We brought in a man who's older than all of us. We brought in Dave Damashek, who is— I'm not, I'm not going to reveal his age.

00:31:30

Is he still here?

00:31:32

That's—

00:31:32

this is some setup. What the hell?

00:31:35

What, what, what, what, what?

00:31:35

I didn't come on here to be attacked.

00:31:38

I apologize. Come on, Roy.

00:31:40

What are you, Tom Wilson?

00:31:43

Listen, I, I mentioned all this because you have a lot more experience than us. That means you have a lot more hockey experiences, uh, experiences that you've gone through in your life. So that means you have stories, and you are on here today, hopefully more often, to regale us with your hockey stories. So Dave, tell us a story.

00:32:01

Well, I go far enough back that I remember what real dynasties in the NHL, really more than any other sport I guess in the span of my lifetime, even more than the Chicago Bulls reigned over the NBA or the Patriots or Chiefs did pro football. It used to always be— when I was growing up, I vaguely recall the Montreal Canadiens completing their 4th straight Stanley Cup run, and then that gave way immediately to 4 straight Stanley Cup runs for the New York Islanders, and then the Oilers won 4 out of the next 5. That was the— that's what I grew up steeped in. So this— I'm still trying to get used to the idea of what Roy said on the Lebatard Show this week, which was, um, which is the reality. Like, if you win 2 in a row, you should be happy, Florida Panthers fans, or any other fan base. 3 in a row is just about impossible because of the elevated nature of the playoffs now and how many games you have to run through to, to complete the feat. It's, it's just about— it's borderline impossible to do these days. But that's not really a story.

00:33:12

What What story can I regale you with? The time I drank from the Stanley Cup? How about that?

00:33:17

Yes, we can go with that because I didn't do it.

00:33:19

Well, now that we have an understanding, we kind of know now, we have some experience that we know how hard— we're not even allowed to hold it on our own. Like, if you don't win the cup, you're not even supposed to hold it without somebody who's actually allowed to be holding it holding it. So let alone drinking out of it. That's tough.

00:33:35

Yeah.

00:33:36

So who'd you pay?

00:33:36

Well, you're allowed to now. Now you are.

00:33:39

No, we need somebody who could— they have to hold it for us. We can't just go, you know, grab it.

00:33:43

Yeah, Phil Pritchett would kill us if we did that.

00:33:46

Oh, shame the devil. I think you— well, see, I like that though, because now it makes me think you're aspirational enough at least to think like, it's within the realm of possibility that I will be on an NHL roster at some point, and maybe if things break the right way, my team will win the Stanley Cup. My organization will bring it home, and then and only then will I drink from the cup.

00:34:09

Maybe not on the not in the roster, but in the front office somewhere, like an intern, an assistant GM in 20— I don't know, like, I'm 43. I feel like I got another 20, 30 years before I can finally retire. So who knows where this is going to lead.

00:34:22

I mean, hell, in 2023, I was definitely afraid to touch the cup. I could not do it. And then the Panthers lost in the Cup Final. I still couldn't do it. And then they finally won, and now I'm hugging the thing.

00:34:33

Yeah, well, that's okay.

00:34:34

None of us are—

00:34:34

your favorite— sorry, go Well, I was just gonna say Roy's favorite player in today's game, the savior of the NHL, Sidney Crosby. I thought he ruined that. I thought he spoiled all that foolishness when he handled the Prince of Wales trophy on more than one occasion. Everybody, oh, can't touch it, it's gonna be apoxymy. How about my greater skill than yours is gonna win the day and allow me to hoist the cup in a fortnight from now? And that's exactly what he did, Roy.

00:35:05

Well, the Panthers, the Panthers famously touched the Prince of Wales Trophy in 2023 and then lost the Cup Final. So the next year they were all like, we're not touching it, we're not touching it.

00:35:16

And then it went back.

00:35:17

And so they did it again the next year and then they won again. So I don't think the Panthers will ever be touching the Prince of Wales Trophy because they also touched the Prince of Wales Trophy in '96, did they not?

00:35:27

Yeah, they group hugged it in '96.

00:35:28

Also, none of us are ever going to play in the NHL. So I think we're good to touch the Cup.

00:35:34

Like, let's establish It is right now.

00:35:36

We can touch the cup when our favorite team wins.

00:35:38

Are you goons all in lockstep? Well, now I hear Ethan bringing some sense to the conversation. Would you guys really not drink from the Stanley Cup or it presented to you? Oh, hell yeah, I would. Favorite grog thrown in there?

00:35:52

Who said I wouldn't?

00:35:52

I would now, yes, obviously. I mean, I'm dry, but I'd have to have some water.

00:35:56

It's hard to get your hands on it, hard to get in the room with it, hard to be able to physically embrace it.

00:36:01

It.

00:36:01

So having the opportunity to be in that situation where somebody's got a beverage, probably preferably an adult beverage, put it in the cup and drink at it like that— that's a lot of balls falling into place at the exact right way, Dave. I'm not saying we wouldn't.

00:36:14

I'm just saying it's impressive that I don't want any balls, anybody throwing their balls or any, any kind of ball. That has no— you know, yes, thank you.

00:36:22

I have some buddies that drank from the cup during— at the Elbow Room.

00:36:27

But wait a minute, no, they poured the beer from the cup on top of that.

00:36:29

No, no, no, no, no, like Josh Chappelle was up there with them and got to like seriously, how am I—

00:36:35

how was I not able to go up in the elbow room?

00:36:38

Because you did— I— you didn't try hard enough.

00:36:40

Unbelievable.

00:36:42

I was in— I'm gonna tell my story now. Okay, I was once in the summer of 1991, that's how old I am, I was sitting in a bar with my pals It was Brett, Richie, and Josh, I think, are the three guys I was with. Very important to include those details. We were sitting— it was a two-story bar, Doc's. It no longer exists. And in the Shadyside area of Pittsburgh. And we were sitting there and it was around closing time. And the bartender upstairs said, you guys should wrap it up with the pitcher. We're closing down. We were dragging our feet and sipping our beers a little too slowly, and then 5 minutes later he said, well, if this gets you to— if this motivates you a little bit, the Stanley Cup just showed up downstairs. It was with a person. It didn't just show up on its own.

00:37:35

It had legs.

00:37:36

And that per— that person was Paul Staggerwald, who at the time was doing the, the TV color analysis for the Pittsburgh Penguins. And so we, we hurried ourselves along. We ran downstairs immediately, and there it was sitting on the corner of a bar. And I swear there were not more than 4 other people in the joint. There was a bartender and there were a couple— so it was the Stanley Cup alone. And, you know, I'm mouthy, as you guys may have noticed. So I said to Paul Staggerwald at some point, like, hey, man, would you mind if we gave it a feel, if we hoisted it, you know? And he said, hey, that's what it's all about. And then he referred to the guy next to him in a blazer. Who was there to guard the Stanley Cup. And he said, as long as it's all right with him, it's good with me. And the next thing you knew, we were like without skates on. Otherwise, though, just like the fellas down on the ice a few nights before, we were handing the Stanley Cup to each other and then to the 2 or 3 strangers around us and giving a feel for it.

00:38:40

Kind of heavy. Not, not, you know, you think like, ah, because you see them like they're a little heavy, but not overwhelming. Even for weak, weak-armed Dave, I was able to do that. And then I worked up the nerve to say to Staggy, mind if we put a little Iron City beer in there and see what it tastes like? And once again, it's okay with him, so it's okay with me. And then we next thing, we're drinking in a line, like going around cannonball and Iron City beer from the Stanley Cup, taking our turns. And then we— this is before cell phones and easy photographs and everything. So we had a semi-sincere debate about, first of all, Brett lived closest to home, so we like, should Brett run and try to get a camera in time? But it'll probably be gone before he gets back, so he didn't want to leave. And then we thought, maybe— I mean, there are 4 of us. What if we make a run for it? What if we just make a run for the Stanley Cup? Not, not like to steal it and to do some grand heist and like hold it hostage for millions of dollars or anything, just to spend a night with 'Just spend a night with it.

00:39:47

We'll give it back, or we'll leave it out somewhere where it's easy for you to find, but just one night so we can have our pictures taken with it for all of time.' We ultimately decided not to go that route. Yeah, good idea. But it was sweet enough. The reality of it was good enough for us.

00:40:03

Is that the worst idea that you're glad that you've never pulled the trigger on in your life? Because you may not be here talking to us if you had done that.

00:40:10

Yeah, I think you're right. I mean, I've always thought like, I'm just athletic enough that I wouldn't be able to, like, if there were a military draft, like, I wouldn't get out. It wouldn't be like, oh no, flat feet, or whatever. It's like, ah, he's too infirm to, you know, to go out there and fight the enemy. I would be just good enough to pass muster on that, but I'd be the first one they get. I'd be like, I'd be the first one. Like, at the end of the war, they'd be like, remember that guy on day one that loudmouth guy who they took out like he was the first, like in the first 3 minutes of the war, they were like, run, here they come, the guys, like I'd be the first one down. They'd be like, yeah, that loudmouth, I remember him vaguely from the start of the war. That's who I would be, and that's what would have happened to me with the Stanley Cup. My friends would have all escaped, but I would have been the one who they caught, and I would have done time.

00:41:01

But instead of that, you would have been the one that would have just hung on to the 40-pound trophy instead of running away like a smart person. And you'd be trying to schlep this thing down the street under your arm. Not easy to get away with. Yeah, exactly.

00:41:13

Just long enough to etch my name into it. Now what are you going to do? Now what are you going to do?

00:41:18

Your Pittsburgh Penguins are currently second in the Metropolitan Division via tiebreak. They have the same amount of points as the New York Islanders, but they have lost two in a row, and things are looking a little bit down right now for them. Nobody's going to catch the Carolina Hurricanes. So they're really going to have to hope that they can either get the 2 spots in the Metro or a wild card spot. So I'm looking at the standings and there is a glaring, and I mean a glaring stat that I'm seeing here. Not a single team has double-digit shootout losses except for the Pittsburgh Penguins. What is going on with them?

00:41:56

Roy, we were talking about this previously and it really is weird and ironic for anybody who's paid attention to the Pittsburgh Penguins for, you know, for 3 minutes, let alone for the last 20 years. It's bizarre looking at the entirety of what that team has done and how they've done it, that they are the worst shootout team you've ever seen in your life. It used to be a decade ago that, oh, we, we, we got— we survived 3-on-3 or the shootout. Well, give us the 2 points now. I mean, look at— look at our weapons. We're obviously going to win pretty much every shootout. Now it's the opposite. They are an atrocity. And half the time Artur Sielavas is between the pipes and he is like, like he's never been on skates before when the shootout starts. It's really weird to watch how bad he is as a goaltender, specifically in the shootouts. If they were merely, if they were merely league average, they would be a lock for the playoffs right now. We would not be talking about, look, can they survive? And what's the math on all this? The math instead would be that it would be like, who's going to win that division?

00:43:05

Is it the Canes or the Penguins? But as it is, the reality is they, they suck.

00:43:12

Yeah, I mean, those 10 losses represents two-thirds of the overtime losses this year.

00:43:17

Think about that. Think about that. I mean, like, do the— I mean, it's pretty simple math. I don't know it off the top of my head, but I mean, just apply 5 extra points to them, which is about what it would be, and we're having a very different conversation about who these Penguins are and whether or not they can make a deep run or otherwise. Now it's in question of whether or not they'll even get to the postseason. I mean, I'll give them the obvious grace that they don't have their best player in Crosby, and then Malkin, you know, I— you see it coming— suspended rightly. And you could see he's vexed. You know, he's an emotional guy and always has been. And, you know, he's vexed that he hasn't been extended by the Penguins. And he lashed out for a couple of games in a row after he met with GM Kyle Dubas to try and negotiate some sort of an extension. And instead they shelved that until after the season. So now it's real murky for what a guy at 39, what his future is going to be with the organization or in the NHL at all.

00:44:22

As an emotional guy, he kind of lashed out and he swung a stick at, at Dahlin's head. And now he got shelved for 5 games. So they're behind the 8-ball in terms of not having, you know, the two of the two of their better players. Malkin still counts as being that. Yeah. And what I've been assured by experts, and I turn to you guys as, as more experts, people are trying to talk themselves into this, I feel like. More than this being the case is like, oh, the Pens will make it because the Columbus Blue Jackets— these aren't just random fans, these are experts— say the Blue Jackets are due a cold spell here. They're going to fall off a little bit. They've been way too hot of late. Do you buy that?

00:45:06

This is exactly what the Blue Jackets did last year. They got really hot at the end of the year, and the Senators are doing the same thing as well. Like, the Sens got really hot at the end of the year last year too. They got into the playoffs. The Blue Jackets just missed out on like the last day of the season. This might just be their thing. That's a good team. Zach Wierenski, we all know from Team USA now, great player. Like, I like that Blue Jackets squad, but I don't— I just don't know that they have enough. Like, there's some firepower missing with that Blue Jackets squad.

00:45:32

23 regulation wins, by the way, for Columbus. That's not going to get it done.

00:45:35

No, no, that's bad. But Roy, as you point out, you know, if it comes down to it with the tiebreakers, regular season wins, the Pens are behind the 8-ball there.

00:45:45

Yeah, that's They have 27. They have 27. That is, uh, that's a far cry from 23. Detroit has 25.

00:45:51

That's okay, but, but look at every—

00:45:53

I mean, the Isles, the Wings, the Islanders have 23 regular regulation wins, so that's 4 above them. The Wings, they have 25 regulation wins, that's, uh, that's 2 above them. So tiebreaker is going to work in the Penguins' favor as far as the other 3 spots in the playoffs.

00:46:11

Well, just looking at the teams that are fight— they're fighting for in the division, the Islanders 23, the Blue Jackets 23, the Flyers 20, and then you get down to Washington at 28, but Washington's also 6 points behind Pittsburgh right now with 2 games— Pittsburgh's got 2 games in hand there. So Capitals, man, that's a spiral out of control, man. That's been rough.

00:46:27

The East is funny because it's still so wide open. Like, you could see any of these teams getting in, but also like 2 out of 5 of like New Jersey, New York, Pittsburgh, Columbus, and maybe even Philly— like, Philly's kind of coming on the last week or so— like, all of these teams could kind of get in. And any of these teams, are you really like, wow, that's like a playoff quality roster?

00:46:49

Like, Well, I would say that's a great question, Ethan. Yeah, I think that's a great question. If we assume, which is assuming too much, but I'm going to do it, like the Flyers and Caps are— and Panthers, forgive me— are— they could conceivably play themselves in, but there's enough to look at without even involving them about who is going to sneak in there. It's fascinating to me that the two conferences— and by the way, I, as an old man, I refuse to call them the Campbell Conference of Wales. Why did we do that? If we can do anything as a group, let's get in Bettman's ear. By the way, I have gotten in Bettman's ear about this 15 or 20 years ago.

00:47:31

Of course you have.

00:47:31

I don't understand how— why is it more appealing? Do you think there were any casual sports fans or casual hockey fans who bought into the NHL who otherwise wouldn't have? Because I can't understand what is a Patrick division. Oh, that's count me out. Oh, now it's the Atlantic. Okay, now, now it's the Metro. Okay, now I get it. It's such foolish math. It was a distinction from every other sport. It was such a cool thing that the divisions and the conferences were named after luminaries. The only failing is with, you know, we found out on the Levitard Show this week that 10-Day Tony has never heard of Dances with Wolves. Not never seen it, has never heard of the movie.

00:48:16

I don't know how that's possible.

00:48:17

He wasn't born in '90s.

00:48:18

I don't either.

00:48:19

He was born in the '80s. So what do I care? So what?

00:48:22

References for his whole professional career.

00:48:24

Like, I wasn't alive when, I wasn't alive when Lady Bing was around either, but I've heard of the Lady Bing.

00:48:32

I wasn't alive when they made Gone with the Wind, but you bet your ass I've heard of it.

00:48:35

That's true.

00:48:36

Well, it was a person too. The Lady— well, right, Lady Bing.

00:48:39

And as the actual person, you've heard of the actual person, Miss Lady Bing?

00:48:46

I don't know. I know it sounds like a pop star. I think it's a funny message delivered by the hockey gods that, or who, the framers of the NHL, that they were like, oh, gentlemanly, doesn't fight, lady.

00:48:59

Yeah.

00:48:59

You know, I think they're trying to insinuate something about who you are if you're in the NHL. But you're not getting any penalties, you're not dropping the gloves ever. Oh, there, here you go, here's a trophy for you, lady.

00:49:10

The trophy was—

00:49:11

I think that's what they're saying.

00:49:12

The trophy was donated to the National Hockey League by Lady Bing of Vimy, then Vice-Regal Consort of Canada. If— have you got— the hockey trophies are ridiculous. They're all too giant to transport around. Like, the NFL MVP is like a tiny little award. The MLB MVP is like a plaque. Back. Like, these trophies are all so—

00:49:33

wrong.

00:49:34

You're upside down, Bedalski. It's the up— you have it exactly the wrong way. Yes, you want a cool, distinctive-looking trophy. The Stanley— the only two trophies that anybody— that universally, maybe with the exception of 10-Day Tony— that everybody recognizes are the Stanley Cup and the Heisman Trophy. Why? Because they're cool-looking and they have cool names and they're named after people from, from history. The NFL MVP trophy, by comparison, it's the most popular sport in society. Nobody can tell you what it looked like 6 years ago. You don't know what it looks like. It's such a—

00:50:13

it's a football on top of like a shield.

00:50:15

Is it even still?

00:50:16

Yeah, it's the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

00:50:18

I thought it's the shield now.

00:50:19

No, the Lombardi, you know, but the logo is kind of cool.

00:50:23

Yeah, it's the conference trophies that look like the shield, I believe, now.

00:50:28

No, this is the MVP trophy now. Hold that up there. That's the— you can't even see it.

00:50:33

You can't even see it. It's nothing. It's that weird silver circle thing. Yeah, there are a lot of cool— the Art Ross isn't the most attractive, but the point is we should go back. Let's meet in the middle here.

00:50:46

Okay.

00:50:46

Okay. I don't know who Patrick is, and I don't know who Norris was or Adams. I don't know. Who all those, who all those, um, Lester long gone people. Okay, what we should do is let's start fresh with the new legends of the game. I think, oh God, that there should be—

00:51:07

I know where this is.

00:51:07

I mean, oh God, what?

00:51:08

I know.

00:51:09

No, you are not going to name a division after Sidney Crosby right now while he's still—

00:51:12

No, I'm not. No, that would be silly. It would be the Lemieux. It'd be the Lemieux division. That would be a good division. It should You know what it should be? It should be the best player from that division. So it would be like the Orr division.

00:51:27

Yeah.

00:51:27

Uh, the Lemieux division. The— so the Hawks, I'm trying to think of who would be the, the, the, the person from that.

00:51:36

It would not be Bobby Hull.

00:51:37

The Makita division.

00:51:38

The Makita division.

00:51:40

The Glenn Hall division.

00:51:41

The Duke Grand division.

00:51:43

Well, let me— there's got to be a good one, right?

00:51:47

Chelios.

00:51:47

If we're doing Lemieux, we can do Chelios.

00:51:49

No, why would, why would one, why would that—

00:51:51

what's this?

00:51:52

They were the same on that. You think they're the same era? Yeah, I thought you were gonna say same. No, no, caliber.

00:51:58

No, of course nobody's at that caliber as Lemieux. It's like 5 guys that are up there. I'm just saying in terms of like, you know, big to his team. You were talking about naming Blackhawks. I'm trying to name a good Blackhawk.

00:52:07

I mean, guys are killing it.

00:52:10

And then I guess like the, the Western Conference, who's the best player? Like, yeah, so we, I guess we would call that like the Bernie Nichols Yeah, the Luke Robitaille division.

00:52:22

The Robitaille, Bill Ranford.

00:52:22

Good. But that, right? I mean, who, who wouldn't be down for that? I guess the rivals wouldn't like it. I guess Flyers fans wouldn't like playing in the Lemieux division, but, uh, they'll deal with it. That's what they, that's what they get for not winning a Stanley Cup since 1975.

00:52:36

Yeah.

00:52:37

One thing I got to ask Dave about before we go, we were talking about it before the show, but we're talking about Tony hadn't heard of Gone with the Wind. Did I hear correctly that you've never heard you have heard a song sung by Mariah Carey? You've never heard during Christmas time, All I Want for—

00:52:51

That's the only one he's got.

00:52:52

That's the only one.

00:52:52

I did know that one.

00:52:53

I mean, he's walked in plenty of CVSs.

00:52:55

Well, that's what I'm saying. Like, it's ridiculous to say you've never heard Mariah Carey sing. So, okay, we're good.

00:53:00

Well, there are a lot of ridiculous things, and my wife, who has ridiculous things too— well, that sounds bad out of context.

00:53:10

Don't let her listen to that.

00:53:11

All her things are all right. That's what I mean. But here's the weird thing. The kind of things I don't know about are like, I'm fascinated by the men, the celebrities that she finds attractive. Like, I know Brad Pitt is handsome, but she said the other day, like, The Godfather was on and she said, Rose, weigh in on this.

00:53:43

This.

00:53:43

She says, uh, what the— the first scene from The Godfather, you know, at the wedding and everything. And, uh, Kay and Michael are sitting at the table having their, their talk about— that's my family, Kay, that's not me.

00:53:55

Um, that's Luca Brasi.

00:53:56

She says, oh, she says that, oh, oh, young Al Pacino, there's no— nobody better than that. I was like, what?

00:54:03

What?

00:54:04

Young Al Pacino? He looks all right, he's all right. I think he's handsome.

00:54:08

Is he not handsome in that movie?

00:54:09

Dustin Hoffman, he's got like the nice hair, like Dustin?

00:54:13

No, not him.

00:54:15

Al Pacino?

00:54:15

No.

00:54:16

Um, James Caan?

00:54:17

No, was the other—

00:54:20

Robert De Niro?

00:54:21

I even think so.

00:54:23

That's Godfather 2.

00:54:24

Godfather 2.

00:54:24

It's Godfather 2.

00:54:25

Yeah, but, but we're gonna say someone handsomer than, uh, like when he was young. Him.

00:54:30

But Al Pacino does look good. He, he looked good. He looks better.

00:54:34

He looks better older. He kind of like aged into being like a sports star, in my opinion.

00:54:40

Okay, what about Jacob Elordi? If—

00:54:43

answer that, Dave. I've never seen him.

00:54:48

I think I get it, but I feel like he's already been— I feel like, because he's been like, he's been presented to me. I don't think I was ever given a choice in it. He's always been volunteered to me in the movie with what's her name, the fox from Margo Robbie.

00:55:06

Wolf of—

00:55:06

yeah, Margo Robbie, who, by the way, herself, like a year or two ago, remember when that was an online thing, when that was a social media thing? Like, she's mid. Like, what world are you living in? But with that— but yeah, yeah, I, I— that's what stands out to me, Rose, to answer your question.

00:55:23

Oh my God, that man has a strong tall drink of water.

00:55:27

Drink of water.

00:55:28

Yeah, that water is tall. That's a tall drink.

00:55:30

Saying tall drink.

00:55:32

Before you go, then who do you think is handsome? Give me, give me one name.

00:55:35

Harrison Ford. Han Solo. Han Solo. I mean, who's better than that? Dr. Indiana Jones. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's a man. Yeah, that's what a man looks like.

00:55:44

Yeah, that's, that's pretty good.

00:55:46

Yeah, I cannot, uh, yeah, I cannot debate there.

00:55:48

Patriot Games. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's pretty good.

00:55:51

You know, else is a looker.

00:55:52

Who's that?

00:55:53

Mario Lemieux. Okay, he's a nice looking man. He is a nice looking man.

00:55:58

Okay, that's about enough for you, Dave.

00:56:00

That's enough.

00:56:01

All right, Dave Damashek, you can find him on Football America. He's the host of that show that is expertly produced by the Fuentes brothers, both Mike and Gino, who happens to be back in the video studio. Hey, Gino, how you doing? Gino, thank you for producing that show and our show. And Dave, thank you for joining us, showing one of your hockey stories.

00:56:22

Sure thing. Mariah Carey, um, I, I think Christmas song is overrated. And for the record, my wife, who I was mentioning, was ashamed when I was like, these guys are giving me the business. Like, why would I know Mariah Carey? She's like, what are you talking about? And I said, I don't know Mariah. You know I don't like that. I think that Christmas song's a little overrated. And she said, but yeah, you've been— what are you talking— you know Mariah Carey. I'm like, I really don't. They were playing some songs for me and then she didn't believe it. And she played 3 or 4 and I was like, I've never heard this song in my life.

00:56:54

Life.

00:56:54

And then she played one with odb and I was like, okay, that one I recognize.

00:56:59

Go back. Like, babies are pacifier.

00:57:02

That's like in 10 years saying I've never heard of Beyonce, though. Like, Mariah was huge for, like, over a decade.

00:57:08

Also, you don't know.

00:57:13

I know exactly what song you're talking about.

00:57:15

Just off of that. Yeah, that's the Emotion song. That's Emotion.

00:57:22

Yeah, emotions.

00:57:22

Yes, Dave, thank you for not knowing who Mariah Carey is.

00:57:27

Hey, no trouble. Thank you for the little, uh, the little break. I'm gonna return now to sweating it out to see if the Pittsburgh Penguins can get into the playoffs. That this is going to be a nail-biter from now. The other thing I was going to say, and I'll leave you guys to talk about this, is the two conferences are so interesting that they are all— every team on one side of the bracket almost a couple teams stand out, but otherwise it's just everybody's the exact same level. And then on the other side, it's like two heavyweight teams and a bunch of dreck. It's fascinating, the, uh, the differences between the two, and I can't wait to watch these playoffs and see how it all shakes out. With that said, good night.

00:58:05

We have to play them out like it's the Oscars. We gotta play them out.

00:58:09

It is. Sun's still out. Thanks. You have to wrap, Tony. I said thanks, Dave.

00:58:13

I love you, Dave.

00:58:14

Thanks again to Dave Dameshek for joining us. Uh, Ethan's sound, let's get to that real quick, please.

00:58:19

21st of the year, 4 power play goals in this game for the Sabers. First time in 8 years. 8-7 with under a minute to go, Bob. Wow. Hockey group chat that I'm a part of on my phone, and I looked down and there was a text message from one of the guys that said, is Sabres-Lightning the greatest game in NHL history? And I said, something very interesting must be happening there. And sure enough, there's Arda Johnny on the spot to keep It's updated.

00:58:47

This one of those guys on the phone?

00:58:49

Do you know who one of those guys was?

00:58:51

You.

00:58:51

Now we're getting to why we're playing the sound. Hey guys.

00:58:54

Oh, it's the hockey chat shout out, dude.

00:58:56

Come on, man.

00:58:57

One of the week.

00:58:57

Yeah, that I'm not a part of.

00:58:58

What do you think we are? Nothing.

00:59:02

Yes, yes, apparently we are nothing. Shout out to the men, to the, I'm sorry, was it the United States men's?

00:59:07

Yes, the United States men's Paralympic hockey team, the sled hockey team, won 6-1 today over, I believe, Czechia. India to advance to the gold medal game. So shout out to them. Shout out to all the Paralympians out there. They deserve our support just as much as the Olympians.

00:59:22

Yes. And please, please do not allow Kash Patel into your locker room. Thanks to Gino and Jason in the back. Thanks to Ethan and Rosie in that studio.

00:59:37

You're very welcome.

00:59:38

Show this was— boys, what a show.

00:59:40

You're welcome.

00:59:41

Dave rambling.

00:59:42

Charge!

00:59:44

That's it. That's David Druke. I'm Roy Villanueva. I'm outta here. Goodbye.

00:59:47

Mike, you know I have one rule to live by, right? Don't place parlays on multiple long shots.

00:59:51

Don't say a game is won when it hasn't hit triple zero.

00:59:56

Mm-hmm.

00:59:56

Always drink your Jägermeister ice cold.

00:59:58

That's the rule.

00:59:59

Everything else is merely a suggestion. Everything else?

01:00:02

Everything else. Wearing clean underwear every day? Well, that's just a personal decision. Brushing your teeth? Obviously smart, but not a rule. Never pee-pee on an electric fence. Okay, maybe there are two rules, but the one that is 100% that I insist on completely: Jägermeister must be drank ice cold, or don't drink it at all. Damn, that's cold. Exactly, you're finally starting to get it. Drink responsibly.

01:00:25

Jägermeister Liqueur, 35% alcohol by volume, imported by Mass Jägermeister US, White Plains, New York.

Episode description

Roy was in the keys last week, losing to kids at a BBQ competition, so the boys catch up on all the trade deadline news they missed, including what the Florida Panthers' holding firm says about the organization's belief in its ability to win another Stanley Cup next season. Then, Dave Dameshek of Football America joins the show to regale the gang with stories of the old days, tell us why the conferences should still be named after NHL legends, and ramble on and on about the Pittsburgh Penguins and god knows what in a way that only he can.
