Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy? Not quite. On Humor Me with Robert Smigel and Friends, me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guests, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.

00:00:18

Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes.

00:00:21

Those people are starving for banter. Listen to Humor Me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

00:00:31

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.

00:00:48

Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.

00:00:51

I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

00:00:54

Listen to Superhuman on the iHeartRadio app. Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

00:01:00

I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on. A Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman.

00:01:11

Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud.

00:01:16

But how long can this alliance last?

00:01:19

Tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me?

00:01:23

Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Last night, a blown call changed the game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports, and giving you the real story behind the headlines. And we're going straight to the source— the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to Sports Slice on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And for more, follow Timbo Slice of Life 12 and the TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok.

00:02:13

Jonas.

00:02:15

Hello, listeners.

00:02:18

Well, I think, I think we're supposed to refer to them as, hey, you.

00:02:22

Hey, hey, you.

00:02:23

Listener suggests that they're just there to listen. We want to engage in real meaningful conversation.

00:02:29

That's a great segue, Nick.

00:02:30

Yeah.

00:02:31

Speaking of segues.

00:02:32

Segue to what?

00:02:32

Your bowl. Okay, so this is a bowl we brought from home. We did. We all live together. Everyone knows the Jones Brothers all live together in a firehouse. In bunk beds. So this bowl is a— this actually comes— this goes— this dates back to our early years as pastor's kids.

00:02:51

This was the tithing bowl.

00:02:52

It was the tithing bowl. So if you reach in long and you hope you can find $1 Bills. The other day we were asking each other questions and we felt like, okay, you know what? We feel like our audience knows this already. When you hear the sound— hold on, this sound—

00:03:12

hold on, it's got to be— yeah, any better than that? There you go. Oh yeah.

00:03:20

When you hear that sound, that means it's time for a bowl question. And we go bowl, and if we don't believe it, we go bullshit.

00:03:29

Love it.

00:03:29

I'll back it up a little bit further with you, Joe. You always bring card games and other things to dinner.

00:03:33

So I do.

00:03:34

You, you engage the audience.

00:03:35

Card games meaning like get to know you games or get to know you better games, you know?

00:03:39

Yeah.

00:03:39

For example, they have random questions just like your— our listeners call in or email us or text us or tweet us, whatever it is. We love to hear from you and you write us and we specifically asked that it wasn't Jonas related. I mean, it could be about our personal lives, but we like it. It's not like What was the inspiration behind this song? Because I feel like those are things— those are things we've already discussed, or I don't know, it's our podcast, we can do whatever the hell we want. So for example, Kevin, would you rather have your group chat leaked on your— or your camera roll leaked?

00:04:11

Group chat? Oh, camera roll.

00:04:14

What's on the camera roll?

00:04:15

I'd rather have that leaked. Less, less is on the camera roll, probably.

00:04:18

You sure about less, less? What does that mean? Less nudity? He's nervous.

00:04:21

I want to paint the picture for Does the camera roll include the hidden account, like hidden, like, well, one?

00:04:28

I don't know.

00:04:29

I don't know.

00:04:30

What's there to hide? Um, well, there's more in that file. I'm asking— camera roll is not that file, so that's what I'm asking.

00:04:36

I think you're safe then.

00:04:37

Password protected?

00:04:38

Now you have to leak it.

00:04:40

Oh, that's— oh, I didn't know that.

00:04:42

You actually have to do the thing.

00:04:43

I'd rather, yeah, self-deprecate than the group chats that you never know what people say.

00:04:47

What about you, Joe? Group chat or camera roll or jelly roll?

00:04:53

No, I would say camera roll or group chat. I would say probably group chat.

00:05:00

Yeah, some spicy stuff on some of those.

00:05:02

Hard to lie if it's your face in the photo, you know?

00:05:04

Yeah, it's true.

00:05:06

Although with the power of AI— this episode is sponsored by AI. OpenAI, Claude, all of it. Every AI possible. Yeah, I feel like it would be more damaging. I feel like, you know, my texts are pretty wild, but I don't think there's anything incriminating.

00:05:21

But the thing is about the text, they're group chats, meaning like the other things people—

00:05:25

there's some wild cards in that.

00:05:26

That's on them.

00:05:28

That's on them. Exactly. I can think of two people in particular that I'd be like, this is worse for you than it is for me, which is why in those situations when they send one of those spicy messages out on the group chat— spicy meaning, you know, Picante. Picante. Thank you.

00:05:42

Uh, come si dice spicy?

00:05:45

Picante. This actually, this episode is sponsored by Picante.

00:05:48

Picante.

00:05:49

Picante Light.

00:05:50

Wherever, wherever you get your spice.

00:05:51

Let's go to the next question in the bowl.

00:05:54

Okay, Nick, why don't you pull one?

00:05:56

It's satisfying every time.

00:05:58

Who are you asking?

00:05:58

It can be like all of us can answer it.

00:06:00

Yeah, I think it's just like, it's because we don't know what they are, so it doesn't really matter.

00:06:02

Would you rather always be 30 minutes early or 30 minutes late?

00:06:07

Um, early.

00:06:09

You'd rather be early?

00:06:09

By 30 minutes?

00:06:10

By 30. 30 is a lot though.

00:06:13

A lot.

00:06:13

It depends. If I'm flying, if I'm flying, I don't like to be— I like to be much earlier than 30 minutes for your flight.

00:06:19

I, I would definitely have to be there.

00:06:21

You cut it close. Kevin likes to cut it close to flights.

00:06:24

I'm like, I'm there in time. Well, sure, but if I'm checking bags, I'm, I'm definitely like—

00:06:31

this isn't a critique, this is just—

00:06:32

no, no, I'm just saying I, I definitely and close to the cutoffs?

00:06:35

You like to, you like to go right up to the last minute and walk right on the plane? I would like to be early because I think, you know, people take real offense to being late, and I don't like offending people. But I also don't want to spend, you know, 30 minutes over X number of things I would have to be at per day could, could rack up pretty fast. Oh my God, suddenly 8 hours of my day is just being early. Well, that's kind of an unrealistic number. Let's say, let's say 4 hours of my day 5 hours maybe is just being early.

00:07:06

I'll tell you a story about being early that, that was a ruiner for me. It was an audition. I was auditioning for, um, oh boy, I'm blanking. Uh, and no, Spider-Man. We don't need to name all the things I didn't get. I would like to—

00:07:21

it's those two of them.

00:07:23

What's the one about the news anchors, the amazing actresses that are— Morning Show. The Morning Show.

00:07:26

Morning Show.

00:07:27

And, um, there's a Morning Show. I was my callback and it was to play like a young anchor that they have in the show.

00:07:35

Like a love interest for Jennifer Aniston.

00:07:36

Jennifer Aniston.

00:07:37

I think it was the kind of like very like handsome, talented, handsome looking male.

00:07:43

Yeah.

00:07:43

No, like very right-wingy, like podcast host guy.

00:07:48

Couldn't have been me.

00:07:49

Interesting.

00:07:50

Long story short, I show up early. They're like, oh, and they did this thing, which was very kind, but they're like, oh, we have a, because it was They're auditioning a lot of very handsome, a very handsome young gentleman. And they were like, oh, we have a private room for you. I was like, lovely.

00:08:05

Okay.

00:08:06

So they put me in this private room and this is the saddest room you can imagine. Similar to this room if we took away the Shane Gray dolls. And it was just these little blinds that all the lights were off and they didn't work. And I could hear clear as day all the guys auditioning. And I was like, they're like, we'll just have two guys before you. And these guys killing it or crushing it. Like, ah, oh my God. I can hear as clear.

00:08:30

I'm trying.

00:08:31

I didn't bring headphones. So I'm just like literally sitting in silence, reading the lines. And I'm like, and I go in and I just like crash and burn. So I can't even, I did the terrible thing. They're like, oh, you can, you can, you can use the, you can read off, off paper for this if you want. I'm like, I got it. Oh, I'm like, I'm good. And it was literally like, I don't even know what I'm auditioning for. Just like me forgetting the name of the morning show. It was just gone for me. It was such a bad audition.

00:08:59

I was like, oh, bad auditions happen. Now, would you say that's, that's your worst audition? Because I have, I've got plenty of terrible, I think, auditions.

00:09:08

I think also Wicked was a bit of a strange one because there was like incredible theater vocalist, I could hear her clear as day. I feel like with the advances in technology, nobody should be waiting for anything. You should just be like, all right, you're up at this time. 3:58, show up. We'll walk you right in the door.

00:09:27

So I met with a director for this big movie. I'm not going to say what movie it is, and people can guess in the comments or wherever they—

00:09:33

Passion of the Christ.

00:09:34

Yeah.

00:09:35

Resurrection, actually.

00:09:37

I'll just say this big movie. And I didn't really realize that it was a director meeting. And the director also produces, as most do. And so I went into the meeting and started talking about the film and what the take was going to be and this, that, the other. And thought he was just producing the film. Didn't realize that when I asked him, oh, and who's directing? And his response was, well, me. Ooh. I was like, oh.

00:10:05

You were like, ah, gotcha.

00:10:06

I wanted to die inside at that moment. I did die inside. And one of our very good friends happened to be in the movie in the end, and I called him after the meeting and I said, hey, I think I screwed, screwed up. I asked the director who's directing. He said, yeah, that's tough, man.

00:10:25

It's a tough one to come back from, that one.

00:10:28

It's okay, things happen.

00:10:29

I had an audition once when we were younger, and the guy that was auditioning me said to me in the room, maybe we try it a different way because I can clearly tell that you don't have any acting experience. Well, I was like, oh, okay. Oh, yes, I'm not getting this role.

00:13:39

On that note, how about you pick a question from the bowl?

00:13:42

Cool. Would you rather always have to sing instead of talk or always have to dance instead of walk?

00:13:50

I'm really confused. One more time.

00:13:52

Sing instead of talk or always have to dance instead of walk?

00:13:58

Only, you know, I was thinking about it actually during soundcheck today. You think about this question a little bit, and I don't know why my brain went there, but I was looking at this catwalk and I was like, it was during our Megamix. Um, and for those of you who don't know what that is, we do a medley of songs from our discography, but solo Nick DNC solo, solo show.

00:14:19

Yeah, and it's mega.

00:14:20

I was looking at the catwalk and it's a, it's a fat, like a thick, thick boy catwalk.

00:14:24

Wow.

00:14:25

Yeah, and I was like, fatty, damn, I wish I could do some flips on that thing.

00:14:29

We used to flip a lot.

00:14:30

Yeah, we did.

00:14:31

But I'm like, there are certain musicians out there who are just like, they'll just be like, real quick, let me just bust out a double.

00:14:37

Say his name. Oh, on the pod, say it.

00:14:41

I can't.

00:14:41

I mean, future guest of, of the pod, I'm sure. Benson Boone, dude.

00:14:45

Benson. Oh yeah, Benson would—

00:14:46

he's gonna flip, dude. He's fully flipped.

00:14:47

He's flipping right now listening.

00:14:48

It's like I want to see the flips in life.

00:14:51

I think it's great. No, no, I think it's amazing. I'm just saying like I was sitting there, I'm like damn, it'd be so cool if I was just like Nick singing, I'm like bam ba dum bum bam pa dum and then I'm just flipping. And also just like because we had Tini as a special guest in Argentina and she has this very popular move that she does now on stage and I'm seeing it all over TikTok and I'm like— It's just casual, let's just bust.

00:15:14

She has a signature move?

00:15:15

It's kind of a signature thing. So her shoulders, it's like her shoulder things.

00:15:18

That's cool.

00:15:18

You should check it out. Lost Shoulders.

00:15:20

We need to do a signature move.

00:15:22

Yeah, we do. We do little things.

00:15:24

Little things.

00:15:25

We all turn at the same time. Yeah, it's really impressive. We all can turn at the same time and sometimes we can't.

00:15:31

And sometimes you forget.

00:15:33

So to answer that question, I would like to be able to dance anywhere I go and people, I want to hear like, ooh.

00:15:38

Yeah, I think dancing would be special.

00:15:39

I'm going to pull one more and then I think we're going to jump on to more important things.

00:15:43

I love that.

00:15:43

True dat. Let's do this one real quick. Would you rather always have wet socks or always have popcorn stuck in your teeth?

00:15:50

Oh God, probably— I think I could deal with the wet socks over the popcorn. The popcorn, when it gets in there and you can't get it, I think it's the most jarring thing in the world.

00:16:01

You can't speak negatively about popcorn though, as popcorn owners.

00:16:04

It's not negative, it's just— I don't want to eat the kernel and that's what gets stuck.

00:16:10

So these both suck majorly. Wet socks is a terrible feeling.

00:16:14

It is, but when that thing's in the back of your tooth and you can't get it and for the life of you—

00:16:19

that does suck.

00:16:20

I've had to go to the dentist just to get a kernel out.

00:16:23

How often do you go to the dentist?

00:16:24

Uh, I was, uh, not going for a very long time, and then I have now gone more periodically. About every 4 months I go. 4 months?

00:16:33

Wow.

00:16:33

I've had a lot of work have to be done after vaping.

00:16:38

Oh, and the truth is revealed. Kevin is a recovering vapist.

00:16:41

I am.

00:16:42

Vaper.

00:16:43

I don't know, even that's not good.

00:16:47

As it came out of my mouth, I thought, that's probably not— a person who used to vape.

00:16:52

Yes, clip it. Um, an electronic cigarette using individual.

00:17:03

Yes, exactly. And I was pretty addicted.

00:17:06

For the listeners at home and for those that are driving and listening to this or listening as they walk Um, those are the only options. Or cycle. Um, to break it down, Kevin skipped a step. He never smoked cigarettes. He went straight to vaping because that's what cool kids do. This was like a teenager does, but a man in their 20s, 27-year-old. And probably when you, when you start, when you start puffing, puffing, when you start puffing the sweet juice, you know that.

00:17:31

I know, I know when it was, uh, 2016.

00:17:35

Oh, and then when did you, when did you get off the sauce?

00:17:37

2019. I quit during that, our, that tour, the Happiness Begins tour. Yeah, and it was tough, but you weaned off using, um, nicotine toothpicks, which then I had to then quit those as well.

00:17:49

You did that thing which drove me nuts. He would crumple those toothpicks up and leave them all over the place.

00:17:55

I was, and I would be embarrassed about all of this myself constantly, uh, and okay, I made the change because I stopped. I didn't want to be disgusting anymore and leaving that toothpick regardless.

00:18:11

I'm proud of you.

00:18:12

Yeah, proud of you.

00:18:12

And but my teeth got soft and I—

00:18:16

that was that a side effect? Your teeth get soft?

00:18:18

Like there's some gum stuff. Like I just was, I was just maybe had nothing to do with the vaping. Big vape out there. I don't know, they're sponsored by, uh, Philip Morris.

00:18:26

I have a feeling they're not sponsoring this one.

00:18:28

Yeah, but the reality, reality for me was I think I had more work to be done in that time frame, right, then I probably— okay, you need it. So I go more periodically now. I got them— I got my teeth whitened right before we left here. I don't know, did you get— you got your teeth whitened? We have the same dentist, by the way.

00:18:46

No, I'm off. I found a new person. Wow, scandalous.

00:18:50

Bummer, he's awesome. Anyway, um, he fixes all the, like, hockey players.

00:18:55

It's controversial though. He doesn't think— hey, we can't talk about—

00:18:58

you don't think he's great?

00:18:59

I This is why you guys shouldn't share dentists and stuff, because it gets complicated. It's like a therapist.

00:19:05

I went to a new dentist. Let me just put it this way. My new dentist— which, a new dentist would say this— she said, who told you you don't have any cavities? And I was like, uh, I was like, I said my brother's dentist.

00:19:19

I'm gonna say this right now. I think there is a game about dentists that you should get a second opinion always, because I believe that there are cavities in there or not cavities in there, and depending— how do I know? Oh, you have a cavity. That looks like a cavity. Are you sure?

00:19:33

This episode, this episode brought to you by Big Dentistry.

00:19:35

7 cavities I had.

00:19:36

7.

00:19:37

And I was like, yeah, oh yeah, it was too—

00:19:39

that sounds like somebody needed to get that, uh, that, that drill money. Maybe.

00:19:44

I don't know. I feel better.

00:19:46

Some shots being fired today on the pod.

00:19:49

I'm flossing more.

00:19:50

Well, I love my dentist. He's great. He's fixed my mouth.

00:19:52

I'm happy for you both.

00:19:53

I'm just saying my new dentist doesn't like your dentist. That's all I'm saying. I'm not saying I don't like him. I'm just saying my— no, no.

00:20:02

All right, honestly, we talked about the dentist. Nick, you probably need to go see a dentist, but bye-bye.

00:20:07

That feels very accusatory. I do see the dentist, and I will tell you, actually, on my last visit, zero cavities.

00:20:13

Wow, zero cavities. There was a big break. I'm sorry, I didn't know that. There was a big break.

00:20:16

You were saying I need to go to this in my adult life with adult teeth, or even just these, whatever. I've never had a cavity.

00:20:22

Judgment-free zone. Said no family member ever. Is there a relation at all to good teeth, healthy teeth, and type 1 diabetics? Because—

00:20:35

Let's pull up, let's chat for that. You know what I'm saying?

00:20:40

I'm just saying because you're not grabbing sugary stuff all the time. All the time. Now there's a, I will say—

00:20:46

Yes, please.

00:20:47

A lot of people are misinformed on diabetics and they think they're like, oh no, you can't have this because it has sugar in it, right? That drives me crazy as your brother. So for those of you who are out there that just do your research because that's not how it actually is. But I am curious because it's something that there might be. You don't go and grab like a sugary snack that often. Oh, it's actually the opposite. It's the opposite.

00:21:09

More likely.

00:21:10

More likely.

00:21:11

So type 1 diabetics are more prone to cavities and other tooth issues.

00:21:16

Interesting.

00:21:16

Okay, so those— wow, so counterintuitive. Counterintuitive.

00:21:20

I guess I'm the anomaly.

00:21:22

That just says you're really diabetic.

00:21:26

Um, yeah, no, I mean, that's interesting. I never thought about that. But also, um, I feel like if you're, if you're looking for a cavity, you're gonna find one.

00:21:37

Or 7.

00:21:37

Mine were preventative, she said. A lot of them were preventative.

00:21:40

They're preventative.

00:21:40

When my dentist said, "You don't have any cavities." I was shocked. Me too. Because I was fully waiting to hear like, "Oh yeah." Not because I have like teeth that hurt or something, but I just, it had been a minute.

00:21:52

Do you floss every day?

00:21:53

No, no chance. No. I brush 3 times a day at least. And I mouthwash regularly and, you know, generally take, I think, good care of my teeth. No, wait, none of this matters. But we did learn something, which is that type 1 diabetics are more prone to dental issues, which I didn't know. You learn something every day, and that's what this podcast is all about, learning. So thanks for listening and taking the time to listen to us talk about absolutely nothing important.

00:22:17

Go floss your teeth.

00:22:18

Go floss your teeth.

00:22:19

Bye-bye.

00:22:20

Bye-bye.

00:22:21

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the Enhanced Games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast Superhuman documented it all. Embedded in the Games and with the athletes for a full year.

00:23:09

Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on.

A Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets.

00:23:36

A billion dollar fraud.

00:23:37

But how long can this alliance last?

00:23:40

Tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me?
