We have breaking news this evening. Christie Noem is now going to be facing articles of impeachment after the horrific shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota today, simply because this happened under her watch, because Christie Noem has enabled the worst of what we have seen out of immigration authorities in America. Under Christie Noem, ICE agents, the shootings involving ICE agents have skyrocketed. And today's shooting was no different. Spread the word right now, so make sure to like, comment, share, and subscribe. This evening, we have confirmation that Congresswoman Kelly, Robin Kelly from Illinois, will be filing articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Christie Noem. Secretary Christie Noem is an incompetent leader, a disgrace to our democracy, and I am impeaching her for obstruction of justice, violation of public trust, and self-dealing. Secretary Noem wrecked in the Chicagoland area, and now her rogue ICE agents have unleashed that same destruction in Minneapolis, fatally shooting Renee Nicole Good. From Chicago to Charlotte to Los Angeles to Minneapolis, Secretary Noem is violating the Constitution while ruining and ending lives and separating families. It's one thing to be incompetent and dangerous, but it's impeachable to break the rule of law. I told my constituents and Chicagoans that I would fight against Secretary Noem's agenda.
This is me fighting back. She's going to file three articles of impeachment. Obstruction of Congress, number one, violation of public trust, number two, and self-dealing, number three. And folks, it comes as we're learning even more horrific news, essentially out of Minneapolis. We now have confirmation that a doctor tried to help the woman who was shot, tried to help Renee Nicole Good. And what did ICE agents do? They blocked. I'm going to show you a video right now. This is a trigger warning, but everyone needs likes to see this video.
Can I go check a poll? No. Back up now. I'm a physician. I don't care. Listen, you understand we got EMS coming. I get it. Just give us a second. We have medics on scene. We have our own medics. Where are they?
Where are they?
How can I relax? You just killed my fucking neighbor. You caught butter in the fucking face. You killed my fucking neighbor. How do you show up to work every day? How the fuck do you do this every day?
He They wanted to check her pulse. They wouldn't let him. They wouldn't let a physician check her pulse. And we know that she died. She died. She was killed by this ICE agent. By this ICE agent. Now, tonight, I spoke to James Talarico, who is a representative from Texas running for Senate in Texas. And I asked him about this. I asked him about his thoughts, his reaction to what we're seeing in Minneapolis, because Texas, as you know, Is a border state. Immigration is one of the top issues in the state of Texas. Before I get to the interview, make sure to like, comment, share, and subscribe. Please spread the word so people see this. Here is James Talarico right now. Super excited today to be joined by James Talarico, who is running for Senate in Texas. Now, I really just want to jump right into it because I think you've seen the horrible, horrible video coming out of Minnesota where an ICE agent shot and killed a 37-year-old woman. I just want to get your initial reactions to the video and to what happened in Minneapolis today.
Yeah, it's unconscionable. It's immoral. It's unacceptable. When we win a Senate majority, we must launch a full investigation into ICE and haul these masked men in front of Congress so the world can see their faces. We need to pass a law to require ICE agents to reveal themselves and identify themselves. We should pass a law banning them from wearing masks. We should pass a law banning them from kidnapping people off our streets without a warrant. No more secret police, no more disappearing people. This is the United States of America. We shouldn't be afraid of our government. Our government should be afraid of us. And so this latest incident should be yet another proof point that we desperately need to take on this corrupt agency.
Well, I got to ask you because a lot of folks in your state of Texas, especially in South Texas, a along the border really support tough for immigration restrictions, even some folks support ICE, for example. What do you say to those folks on the border who you're going to have to win about the future of immigration policy?
Well, my family is from South Texas. I've spent a lot of time in South Texas, including on the campaign trail. I've talked to folks in the region about their views on immigration, and they don't like the extremism that they're seeing from the current administration. They think we should be cracking down on the cartels, not our communities. They think we should be cracking down on gang members, not small business owners. They think we should be cracking down on human traffickers, not moms and babies. They don't like what they're seeing from Washington, like most Americans. They want us focused on real solutions to this immigration system, comprehensive immigration reform that includes more security measures on our Southern border, but also creates a pathway of citizenship for the folks who have been here for decades contributing to our communities. That's the common sense immigration platform that most Texans support, regardless of where they come from geographically or where they are politically.
I have to ask you because something else that's been in the news lately, and it's impacted some folks in Texas, is the strikes on Venezuela, the capture of Nicolas Maduro. This is an issue that if you get to the United States Senate, you're going to have to tackle head-on, specifically the war powers aspect of it. I got to ask, if you were in the Senate today, would you support a war power's resolution to stop further strikes in Venezuela?
I'm 36 years old. I was 12 on September 11th, 2001. I saw the importance of keeping this nation safe. But as a millennial, I also saw how military disasters like the Iraq War robbed this nation of young lives, of billions of dollars, of our moral standing in the world. Over the weekend, I saw flashes of the Iraq War. Many people don't realize that Donald Trump in 2024 met with the biggest oil executives in the country and promised them a great deal. That's what he called it, a great deal, if they donated a billion dollars to his campaign. In response, those same oil executives gave a lot of money to the President's re-election campaign. On Saturday, he return the favor by giving them Venezuela, home to the largest oil reserves in the world. I've said from the beginning of this campaign that the biggest fight in this country is not left versus right. It's top versus bottom. I don't know how you look a parent in the eye and tell them you sacrificed their child's life for big oil's bottom line. So to answer your question, as US Senator, I would never vote to send someone's son or daughter to war to make billionaires richer.
I got to ask you because you mentioned the campaign We have less than 60 days to go until the March primary in Texas. You do have a primary opponent now, Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett. She jumped in late last year, and I want to ask you the same question I asked her when she jumped in. If I'm a Texas voter and I see two rising stars in the party, two great Democrats, why am I choosing to vote for James Talarico instead of Jasmine Crockett?
Well, I think I bring something unique to this primary race. I bring a history of not just fighting against Republican extremism, but beating it, both at the ballot box and in the Halls of Power. You know, Aaron, that I first got elected to the State House by flipping a Trump district that no one thought was winnable in a red county that hadn't voted for a Democrat for President since Jimmy Carter. I was able to flip that seat along with my neighbors by building a big coalition of Democrats, independents, and some disillusioned Republicans. I also brought in a bunch of new voters who had never shown up at the ballot box before. A lot of young people who are excited to see a millennial running for office. That's exactly the coalition we have to build if we're going to win this Senate race here in Texas. I have a history of building those coalitions and winning tough races. Then as a state representative in a difficult place to work, like the Texas legislature, I've been able to fight back against Republicans. I led the quorum break over the summer to shine a national spotlight on their redistricting power grab.
I've confronted my Republican colleagues when they're twisting my faith to hurt our neighbors. I've single-handedly defeated harmful Republican bills with points of order on the floor of the house. But I also know how to work across the aisle to get stuff done to help working people. I passed the first ever cap on insulin copays in Texas history. I passed the largest early childhood education bill in recent memory in our state. Just a few months ago, I passed a major housing bill to bring down housing costs for people in our state. So we need a senator who knows how to fight back and also knows how to win. And I bring both of those skills to this nomination process.
Now, before I let you go, I do need to ask you $13 million. That's a lot of money that you raised last quarter. Could you talk a little bit more about that? Where's that money coming from? Is it coming from billionaires? Is it coming from PACs? Where's that money coming from? Because that's a lot of money.
Yeah, it's an impressive number. I think what's even more impressive is where that money came from. It came from two 215,000 individual contributors giving 5, 10, $15 at a time. 98% of our donations were under $100. They came from nearly every county in the state of Texas, 240 counties. That's blue areas, red areas, purple areas, big cities, small towns. That's the whole state. That's the coalition we need. What I'm most proud of is that zero dollars came from corporate packs. I'm the only member of Texas legislature who doesn't take corporate pack money, and I've pledged to never take corporate pack money in this US Senate campaign or in any future campaign. That's the people-powered movement we need to confront this broken political system. I'll also just add, we also have 13,000 volunteers who have signed up on our website, jamestalerico. Com, if anybody wants to sign up to help us. They are out there in every corner of the state doing the organizing work to win in November. Our campaign is Built to Win. I'll just tell you, I know you know this, Aaron, we have a moral imperative to win this race in November, and that's exactly what I plan on doing.
James Talarico, thanks so much for joining me.
Thanks for having me.
