Transcript of Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Buffalo Sabres LIVE w/ Steve Dangle
sdpnAnd see my wedding end. This is the way it has to be. Tell me why they love you find, oh, we am I? I'm finding for love. Fighting for love. Fighting for love. The Earth had seen my waiting to find his love. Find his love. The Earth had seen my waiting to find his love. Find his love. The Earth had seen my waiting. I'm around here, get me your hands up to I'm not afraid of you. Can't beat your head. Just took a fall. I'm not afraid of you. How can you feel this off is done? This off is serious. Serent, serent, serent. Serent, serent. Serent, serent.
#raise me up and see my willingness, willingness # Is it sane? Is it possible? Still, I ask myself, are we? Am I?
Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes Yes. Hey, everybody. How are you doing? Anyone clog a toilet recently? Not me. Definitely not me. How are you doing? Steve Dangle here on the Sdpn YouTube channel. Click like, click subscribe. Tell all your friends. Producer Hayden on the back-end. Doing his thing. I've got my pre-losing-my-voice voice, and it just drops to a register that I don't usually have. E A, sports. It's in the game. Question from Leef Opsted, as the Leefs take on the Buffalo Sabers. I'm not going to do this all night. I just enjoy it. Leef Opsted, is Grav still at S TPN? Grav star streams when? I haven't talked to Grav in a bit. He did some stuff for us. We never brought him into the fold, official, but I like that kid, man. I like what he does. He's got my number. You can reach out. Leaps, first half of a back-to-back, Apparently doing that voice has consequences. First half of a back-to-back against the Buffalo Sabers who are winless in 11. 22 possible points over their last 11 games. They have obtained three. The Leaps, despite not playing their best hockey over the last, let's say, two weeks or so, picking up a bunch of wins.
Dennis Hildeby picked up the win against the Buffalo Sabers last time they played. He has been sent down. Matt Murray playing his first NHL game in over 600 days. It's a feel good story. I really hope he does it. Marcus braided asking, Expectations for Murray tonight. Here's a reasonable expectation. Holy. The building is nearly exclusively Lee fans from that crowd Okay, they found two Sabers fans. There you go. Here's a reasonable expectation that the leafs play better in front of him than they have in front of anyone else in recent memory. Help out your goalies, guys. Help out your goalies. O&v at the game. Go leaves, go, baby. I love that, buddy. Love that. If you're a Sabers fan at this game, Buddy, you are doing it for the love of the game, the love of the game. You have the perfect pre-Christmas opportunity to, one, not watch one of the worst teams that your team hasiced in recent memory, and that's saying something. And I'm talking about the stretch they've had. On paper, I don't really think they're this bad, but still. And also, you can rip off a bunch of Canadians pre-Christmas Christmas.
A pair of tickets for this game, you're telling me you're not walking away with at least 250 Canadian? Come on now. Matt Murray, 931 safe percentage in the American Hockey League this year. Robert Bett, nice to have you back, Boop, boy. It's good to be back. Deatheater, 91. Hi, Steve. Sdp VIP. Ad free. Becoming an SDP VIP today. Ukapeka Lukinen, in net for the Buffalo Sabers. He started real good. Recently has not been real good. Rasmus Dalline back in the lineup for the Sabers. Sam Lafferty back in the lineup for the Sabers. Jordan Greenway out of the lineup. Felicity Waters says, Go leaves, go. Will we have the game clock tonight, or I got to do a bunch of updates? Puck is about to drop. It will be updates. Okay. And the Puck is dropped. Tate Thompson wins the game opening face-off. Rasmus Dauphine gets the first touch after that, returning to the lineup. Near giveaway there. Connor Timmins is supposed to be playing with Morgan Reilly tonight. Benoît with McCabe. Tanev is playing with OEL. Obviously, Craig Berubey has the opportunity to switch anything that he wants. Interesting. Benoît and McCabe, we've seen sparsely this season.
We saw it a lot last year. Tana of OEL, I don't remember really being a thing. Reilly Timmins, I know, has never really been a thing. So interesting. Leifs' top line out there, Matthew is getting muscled by power. Nye is out there with Matthews and Marner to start this game. Matthews trying to put pressure on. Marner trying to put pressure on. The Sabers get out of their zone. They enter the zone with speed. Nye's takes down his man. There's not going to be a call there, I don't think. That's offside. 18:57 to go in the first period. Canadian Skull Dragon. Welcome to SDP VIP. Please become an SDP VIP. It supports the channel, and also there's something in it for you. I see who the VIPs are in the chat. You get access to our VIP episode every week, so we do three episodes that are free. Puck has dropped. And then the VIP This episode is only for VIPs. We've recorded a ton over the last few days. Benwa takes down his man. Jake McKabe with a bit of a risky pass. Leaps get out of their own zone, though, and this is going to be a three on one here.
Domi with McMahon scores. Lasers from his eyes. Bobby McMahon, 89 seconds into the first. I Unbelievable. This line keeps it going. There's already a Saber's fan with a paper bag on their head. Canadian Girl 83 with 10 gifted Sdpn memberships. And this third line keeps on ticking. Great feed from Domi. It's like, shoot it, shoot it, shoot it. Man. And that's such a good feed to McMahon, his eighth of the season. I wonder if Robertson gets a secondary assist on that. And the Chiefs. Puck has dropped 18:27 to go on the first. Score on the first shot of the game. Not just their first shot of the game, the first shot of the game. So that's one way you can support your goalie, right? Oh, no. Matt Murray makes a big save. That's a scoring chance. Never mind. I was about to say, one way you can support your goalie is by giving him goal support. But maybe limit the chances against. Connor Timpins, another risky pass in front of the net, but it works. Reilly up the ice. Oh, interesting little pass. Dauleen first on it. Tyler Darden, I didn't even get the stream open, and it's one nothing.
Oh, Tanev takes down his man. I think he just blew a tire. Kemp off the boards and out as the leaves will get a change in. 17:38. Yeah, baby. Left in the first period. That was a total fluke. And the Saber score. Alex Tuck, just a grade A scoring chance. This is what I'm talking about. This is what I'm talking about. Any goalie is going to have trouble with that. Any goalie is going to have trouble with that. Murray, the first shot he faces is a grade A scoring chance. He stops it, leaves Puck watching. That John Tavares, buddy, that's That's your guy. That's your guy. He's right next to you. What are you doing, boys? What are you doing? And what are the refs talking about here? 17, 26 to go in the first. I don't think the Lefs have challenged anything. It's not obvious what the refs and sabers are talking about right now. Gold disallowed due to a double minor. Tanev got hit with a high stick? Sabers aren't even really arguing it. I guess they can't. You're like, You can't even review this, can you? Oh, yeah, he definitely gets high sticked by that Zucker.
Maybe that's part of the reason why the play broke down. Oh, yeah, he got it pretty bad. I mean, it's a penalty. So wait, because it's a double minor, they get to review the penalty. And if I'm not mistaken, if they decide it's not a penalty, don't the Sabers get a goal? I've never seen this. I've never seen this. I don't know what the move is here. The refs are already given the headphones back. Buffalo penalty, double minor, high sticking, so no goal. So Hayden asking... Oh, man. Yeah, Tana, I think it's his nose. Oh, yeah. Solid nose bleed there. Might have broke it. So Zucker scored the goal, and instead of getting a goal... Or no, Zucker didn't score the goal. It was tuck. So, yeah, Hayden asking, why wasn't the play blown dead? I don't know. I don't know because two or three sabers touched the buck after that infraction happened. I can't think of a time I've ever seen this. So the Leaps go from one nothing to one one, to they have a four minute power play and it's one nothing, again. We are two and a half minutes in the game.
Puck has dropped. Leaps' power play begins. What a break for the Leaps and potentially Tanev's face. Neilander with a shot that's stopped by UPL. Tavares tries to prevent the clearing, but he cannot. Solomon just started watching what the hell is happening. That's a great question. I think I think I just explained it as best I can. Nielander. Marner. Reilly at the point. Marner. Ota to Tavares. Oh, he had a good shot there. I think he missed high and wide. Saber's ringing around. It'll leave the zone, and they'll settle for dumping it. Going to have to get a little a mild T in me in intermission, I think. Leifs dump it in. Travis Russell saying, Linesmen saw it, but they can't blow the play dead. That, to me, makes sense. I mean, ultimately, they made the right call. Like, Tana was leaking bad. Sabers didn't really argue it, but it's very Buffalo Sabers. Like, nothing is going right for them. 30 seconds to go in the first minor of the double minor. Domi to Pacha ready. Nice. Oh, almost had a chance there. Oel, Robertson, OEL. Domi, OEL. Domi, do it. He can't put it on.
Domi gets it back 10 seconds ago in the first minor. Oel on. Oh, UPL didn't see that. Patcherade, he can't get it back to the point. Saber's clear in the first two minutes is over. Murray, out of the net to play it. David Owens, doesn't that seem like something that would typically go against the Leaps? Yes. But it didn't. That's my favorite part, I think. Marner, Marner. Way up the ice. Out of the reach of Austin Matthews. Matthews, around the net for Tavares. Marner, behind the net. Matthews. Marner. Marner has been basically like the power play quarterback this year. Reilly. Oh, tricky pass to Matthews to keep the play alive. Neylander behind the net. What are the leaves setting up here? This is a strange formation. Neylander, Reilly, Marner, I was looking for Tavares, couldn't find him. Matthews tries to get the body position. Saber's clear it. Murray's gotten quite a few touches of the buck. Derogatory. Would it kill this unit to shoot it? It would kill them. Yes. Neelander shoots. That went up high, and I think into the netting, 53 seconds, excuse me, to go in this penalty. Ares mix. In 2013, nick Holmerson scored in the last few minutes of game seven versus Detroit, but it was waived off because the ref intended to blow the whistle for a penalty behind the net.
Could be similar. Now, Chicago won that game. I'm pretty sure. Well, yeah, they won the Cup, so they must have. Marner on. Oh, there was a down low pass there. 14:10 to go in the first period. Tavares to Nylander shoots. I think that went wide. It might have glanced the post. O'yell to Willy. Tavares. Oh, can't get it. Oh, Marner keeps it alive. Willy. Oh, what a pass to Austin Matthews, who buries it? Leaps up 1-0. Saber's tie at 1-1. Goal called back, penalty on Buffalo. It's 2-0. Toronto, six And five seconds into the first period. What a spicy start to this one. And what a pass from Nylander to find Matthews. Oh, hell, yeah. Austin. He mispracticed today or the skate today. He still doesn't look totally right. But one thing... Yeah, he doesn't look great. But one thing you got to say, he's putting up the points recently. Justin Fisher, have the Sabers taken the crowd out of it? Yes or no? Man, that was a tough quote from Lindy. Wait, what? It's all good. Who's texting me during the stream? It's fine. Thirteen minutes, 32 seconds, 31, 30, 29, 28. So you can sync it up.
Leifs, fourth line, gets it in deep. Kampf, Lawrence, and Holmberg. How didn't I even notice that? Holmberg in for Ryan Reeves. I'm not one of the anti-Reves guys out there, but Holmberg was playing some genuinely good hockey when they took him out of the lineup. I don't know if I love that decision, and I hope he has a great game tonight. He's someone I was really hard on earlier in the season, and it was earned. It was earned, but I think he earned some praise. Third line, going to work. Mcmahon might have a chance again. Shoots. That one just goes wide. Mccabe almost misplays it. It doesn't. Domi, McCabe, Robertson. Head fake, head fake. Nice pass. Well, maybe not the nicest pass, but he finds McCabe. Mcmahon with it. On. Oh, tip from Domi. Doesn't get past UPL. 12:22 to go in the first. Sabers get out of their own zone, and they'll flip it out. Great pass up the ice to Tavares. Tavares gains the zone. 12:03, 02:12 to go in the first period. Pat, you ready? By the way, I'm streaming again tomorrow. Tomorrow's game against Is it the Islanders? I think it's the Islanders.
It is. Thank you, Aiden. What on Earth happened with the buck there? Whatever. The Sabers have it 11:35 to go in the first period. Wouldn't that be great if Chris Cuthbert did that? I don't know what's going on. That's why he's on TV, and I'm here. Sabers ringing around. They're in the leave zone for a change. Sabers still only one shot on goal. They had a shot taken away. That shot went in the back of the net, but it didn't count. Matt Murray has ridiculous luck for goals scored on him. They got called back. There were three in one game a couple of years ago against New Jersey. We're in commercial break right now. I think our first of the game because of all that penalty action. David Owens, gifting 10 SDPN memberships. Thank you. If there was ever a time to get SDP VIP, the time is now. It's well, the time is always. But we've recorded so many episodes over this past week in the week before. We're taking a couple of weeks off. We're still going to be doing streams. I'm still going to be doing LFRs, but the podcasts are prerecorded.
The VIPs are really good. We had one go up last night. There's There's obviously a lot of hockey on our network. The VIPs are typically not hockey. We did dabble a little bit in some hockey, but for example, the episode, oh, Mike Schmidt dropping a 50 piece. So 50 of you were just gifted SDP VIP by Mike Schmidt. So if you see, whether it was David Owens, Canadian Girl, Mike Schmidt, if anyone gifted you a membership, please make sure to thank them. Mike It says, Enjoy the VIPs. Thank you. Adam led the way with the most recent SDP VIP because there's a... Was it BuzzFeed? A BuzzFeed article about divorce. And some parts are heavy, some parts are funny. It runs the gamut of emotions. We've already got a lot of positive feedback about it. It is not what you would typically hear on the SDP, but it's not the SDP. It's SDP VIP. Adam McCarthy. So has Adam forgiven you for Wednesday? So for those of you who weren't there, okay. You know what? I'll tell the story next commercial break. 11:13 to go in the first period, Puck has dropped. It's a story that deserves its time.
Oh, Tip in front, almost went in. Paula Bellin. Bellin. Paula Ellen. There we go, Steve. Five Sdpn memberships. Thank you. Feliz Navidad. Dahlene goes to put it on. That hit someone. That hit a leaf in front, and they are in a world of pain. Oliver Ekman Larson. I'm not going to lie, folks. I think that hit him in the pills. Yup. Oh, shit. Dalline shoots it. It deflected. Oh, no. Oh, shit. Yeah, that got him right in the dick, boys. That got him right in between the legs. Oh, shoot. Oh, that looked bad. That looked bad. Emojalapino, gifted 5SDPM memberships. Thank you. What a transition. Saber's shot. Stop by Murray. Another shot. Stop by Murray. He clears it. Not the greatest clear. Blocked. 10:28 to go in the first period. Saber's at the point. Fourth line out there. Fighting for their lives a little bit. Clifton on. That one doesn't get through. Saber is still with it. Current Ozone time, 40 seconds. Not great at all. Cousins puts it around the net. Mccabe handles that, takes a hit. Saber is still with it. Cousins. Oh, boy, this is getting bad. Fast stop by Murray. Cover it up.
They don't cover it up. They flip it out. Oh, and it's perfect. It gets it deep, but it's not icing. Absolutely perfect. I'm not sure who cleared that. That was great for the Leaps. They desperately needed it. But here come the Sabers again, 9:35 to go in the first period. Almost every save Murray has made in this game has come in the last 45 seconds. Sabers, shovel it into the corner. Mcmahon after it. Timmins after it. Reilly after it. Someone get it off these guys. Jeez. When was the last time the Sabers had a shift this good and did not have a goal disallowed at the end of it. Puck in the neutral zone. Saber still with it. Robertson with it in his own zone. Hook past to McMan, and it works. Robertson does a good job to separate his man from the Puck. Sabers get it deep, but the Leaps have numbers here. Timmins with it. Reilly, one I wonder what they do with the pairings now that OEL is out. My guess is you reunite Tanev and Mekabe because Mekabe's third pair, you can give him more ice time. And that's exactly what they're doing right now.
They got McCabe out there with Tanev. Patch already battling for it. Saber's with quite the push in the last couple of minutes here. Benson. Tanev gaws in his nose and everything, drops it for McCabe. So the leaves are with five D-men right now, but they also got one with an ailing face. Neelander goes one on five and still has it. Benoît drops it for... There's no one there, Benny. And now the sabers escape with numbers. Thompson, good pressure from Nye's behind him. Him and Marner combine to separate him from the buck, and here comes Marner. Gets it to Connor Timmins. Yeah, you can tell the leaves are fighting it a little bit with who they got on the back end. They're not quite sure what they're doing. Matthew's with it. Drive the net, drives around, goes for the wrap around, It doesn't work. 7:30 to go in the first period. Matthew's knocked to the ice. He gets the buck back to Marner. Oh, tried to get it to Nize. That would have been disgusting. A fight. Tate Thompson with Morgan Reilly. Tate takes Reilly down. Not a lot of punches exchanged. What on Earth? 7:20 to go in the first period.
The refs have Reilly in a jiu-jitsu full mount. What started this? Ricardo Medeiros. Thank you. Welcome to STP VIP. What on Earth? Matthews. Oh, Matthews got hit pretty good by Tage, and Reilly comes after him, and they drop the gloves. I wonder if Reilly gets the extra two there. Yeah, I'll do a collapse for a puck drop. Sorry, everybody. We're in, excuse me, commercial time out. Oh, yeah, I'll tell the story. So last stream that Adam did, I think it was the stars game. He told a story. So we had a meeting. It was a fun meeting. Then we had a Christmas thing, and it was a fun Christmas thing. Then after that, we had some shows to record. I had to go to the bathroom first, so I did. I'll admit, I used too much TP. Can't even look into the camera right now. Thank you, Emojalapeno, gifting five Sdpn memberships. Can't even look into the camera right now. I used too much TP. I clogged the I had to go look for a plunger. I couldn't find one. I had to ask for one. It was humiliating. We found it. But Adam, in a rush, was like, No, Steve, leave it.
We have to record some shows. Deal with after, which I thought was a weird reaction. Let me go downstairs. I'll have it fixed in a couple of minutes. I'll be right back up. But he wouldn't let me do it. So what happens? We record two shows. We get out of there really late because we had what we thought was going to be an hour long Christmas shindig, but we enjoyed each other's company so long. It last two and a half. So I went home, and I'm on the DVP, and I contact Adam and Jessie, who happened to be recording Agent Provocateur, and they're like... And I go, Hey, guys. Pretty sure I forgot to un clog the toilet. Oh, yeah, because sales lead, Christina, said, Hey, did you ever un clog the toilet? And I said, No. So Adam did it after his stream the other day. So wait, we're back from commercial break. So So Tate Thompson is in the box. Morgan Reilly is in the box, and nick Robertson is in the box. I guess Robertson is serving Reilly's penalty, but it's not an instigator, it's ruffing. I'm not sure I understand that, but either way, the Sabers have the power play, and they get a shot there.
I forgot to clap. 17, 12, 11, 10, sorry, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, One, seven minutes to go. Sabers enter the leave zone. They're at the point. Dahlene. Cousins drives the net, knocked off his stick. Sabers hold the line. Pterka down low. Paterka on the half wall. To the point. Paterka again. Great puck movement from Paterka. Dalleen blast it on. Stop by Murray. Whoa. Mccabe shoves his man to the ice, and that draws a crowd. A bunch of middle fingers. Was that Dwyane? You know Saber's Van Dwyane? That looked like Dwyane behind the leafs net. I wonder if McCabe is getting a call there. I hope not. He's just defending his goalie. He was poking at him. Liam Benjamin, Welcome to SDP VIP. No, just SDP VIP. Welcome. All right, we got a face off. 6:40 to go in the first, 1:20 to go in this power play. Puck has dropped. Sabers win the face off But too much. It leaves the zone. They reenter. Oh, leaves can't clear. Dallene, all looking for a bumper tip there. It doesn't work. Oh, Matthews. Fortuitous bounce. He gets it. Marner clears it. Just under a minute left in this power play, 6:15 to go in the first period.
Dahlene with it. Jesus, he going to stay out for the whole power play? Here comes Tuck. I was about to say the Saber's only goal scorer, but they called it back. Maybe he'll get it back. Holmberg out there on the penalty kill. He can make his argument to stay in the lineup by having a good kill here. Oh, sabre's off the side of the net. Lawrence and Holmberg are the forwards. Tanef, oh, boy, gets it to Holmberg, who wasn't the most ready for it, but he got it, clears it 5:40 to go in the first period, 18, 17, 16, 15 seconds to go in the power play. I'm definitely going to have to make a T, first intermission. So here's what we're going to do first intermission. This is mostly for Hayden, but you guys can listen, too. We'll show a clip as soon as the period ends, and then we'll do stuff like hockey cards and all that. Does that sound good? Sound like a plan? Sounds amazing. Oh, that's even better than good. Tavares, for Benoît. Timmins, up the ice, five minutes to go in the first period. Oh, Ekman Larson has returned to the leaves bench.
We like That, and actually, he's on the ice right now. Oel chasing after the puck right now, presumably with a bag of frozen peas in his hockey pants. Sabre's. Oh, by Matt Murray's body language, I thought that was icing. It is not. The fast moving, period. Nick Robertson gets it to Max Domi. Stop by UPL. Robertson, little shoulder check. Gives it to McKeebe. The leaves are looking for a deflection there. They don't get it. Benwa. They go right back to this McKeef-Benwa pair now that OEL is back. Robertson, good job holding the line. He's got McMahon. Mcmahon couldn't find Domi. And the Sabers will get it out of their zone. Hand pass there on the leaves. Exactly four minutes to go in the first period. Robert bet, could this year's Buffalo Sabers be the leaves of the '84, '85 season when we went 20, '52, and '08 as we go into commercial break. I wasn't alive for those '80s leaves teams that were supposedly really bad. My version of that is the Peter Horacek leaves. And it's a shame because the Leaps were not bad because of Peter Horacek. But they get called the Horacek leaves because it describes the era.
They had Randy Carlyle, weren't good, but they were in a playoff spot when he got fired. They were on their way down when he got fired, but they were in a playoff spot. The Leaps pulled the rug on the Leaps. And Horacek inherited one of the most sadsack NHL teams I've ever seen. If I remember correctly, it was 11 wins in their final 55 games of the 14-15 season. That team is the reason the Leaps have Mitch Marner. Dude, it was the McDavid draft. It was Eichel If you think you might be bad, just tank. And then they don't get the first pick, but then you can either have Dylan Strom or Mitch Marner. They pick fourth. I think it was the Coyotes pick Dylan Strom. Leaps go, Mitch Marner. The next year, Leaps still bad. They have Austin Matthews. The Leaps finish last in 15, 16, and I think the 15, 16 team could kick the 14:15 team's ass. Whoa, Cassie just remembered Canada has ketchup chips. Very excited. Oh, yeah. Welcome. She drops a 50-piece on us, Cassie Klan. Cassie Klan. Cassie Klan. If you got gifted a membership, thank Cassie. I forgot to clap.
3:46 Leaps, 45, 44, 43 to go in the first period. Leaps get it deep in the saver zone. Tana can't hold the line there. Here come the savers. Two on two. Oh, three on two, actually. Stop by Murray. Didn't handle it the most confidently, but he handled it. Covers it up, 3:30 to go in the first period. Leaps only have five shots on goal. They haven't gotten a shot on goal. I want to say since the second goal. Matt Murray is such a huge goalie. And by that, I mean, his equipment is huge. He's got a huge chest protector. Andre Vasilevski-Stiles. Face off in the leave zone. Puck has dropped, sorry. Pontus Holmberg gets the face off win there. Oh, no. Timmins. Sabers have had quite a bit of ozone time. Oh, and they got some more shots. That one goes wide, and it bay blades around the board. Sabers have to go after it. Cassie says, Sorry, I'm late. Fell asleep. L-o-l, procrastinating now. It's all good. Never apologize for sleeping. Three minutes to go in the first period. Shots five, six in favor of the Sabers to call this game low event. It's actually inaccurate.
Quite a bit happened early on. Reilly fought Tate Thompson as well. Yeah, no, this game hasn't been low event. There just haven't been a lot of shots, if that makes sense. Patcheretti puts it into the corner. Lander can't catch up to it, though. So here come the Sabers. They broached the zone. Lafferdi with it, leaf legend. Oh, he's got a wide open bow in Byram. Stopped by Matt Murray. John Tavares goes one on three. It almost worked. Dauleen gets it out of his zone. Sabers can't break out with it, though. Leefs have it. 203, 202, 201, Two minutes to go in the first period. Leaps up to nothing. Saber's prevent the dump in. Mccabe gets it back. Finds Marner. Marner. Back to Mccabe, who blasted on. Stop by UPL. Threw traffic and everything. I thought that shot made it through. It hasn't made its way on the score bug yet. Matthew, so great fake. Fouled me. Tanev and Mekabe out there together. Nyes. Marner. Oh, Marner doesn't receive the pass well. If he does, he probably shoots that. Matthews' good defensive stick of the offensive blue Matthews takes advantage of the fact that Saber has brought it back into their own zone, but here come the Sabers.
They dump it. Zucker going in there with Benwa. Zucker's really underratedly having a very good season. Domi. Mcman. Get on that horse, big fella. Mcmahon. Domi. Stopped by UPL 47.9. Nine seconds to go in the first period as he covers it up. Cassie, I think it's dad joke time. Yes? Yes. It's almost... Have a tea and a lozange time for Steve as well. What do you call a cow that doesn't produce milk? Someone you have beef with? I don't know. I don't Domi, face off in the offensive zone. Mcman up with it, comes up with it. I didn't clap again. Steve, you suck. Second period, I'll be better. Mcmahon. Great battle behind the net here. Mcmahon, the Mcmanimal, back after it. He gets it again. Robertson finds... Mccabe, stopped. Oh, McMahon almost gets a shot there. Tanev, Robertson. That shot doesn't hit the net. Fifteen seconds ago in the first. Saber is trying to get one last chance here. Tanev says, No. How about I play Keep away? Oh, here. Someone just fell in front of the leaf's net because they caught an edge or whatever. Jake McCabe runs out the clock, and that does it for the first period.
And the answer, what do you call a cow that doesn't produce milk from Cassie, an utter failure, a milk dud, if you will. I'm so tired, Cassie. I'm annoyed by how good that is. And it's two-pronged. You couldn't decide what was better, an utter failure or a milk dud. Extremely, extremely good. Good stuff. We got two clips for tonight. We got, Oh, Wow, and we got something about the Rangers. What are you thinking, Hayden? Oh, wow? Let's do a little, Oh, wow. Real quick before we get to that. Alexander Watt, welcome to SDP VIP. And Robert Bett, if memory serves me, and usually doesn't, age-related... What? Dan Maloney was the coach back when the Leifs thought ex- players make great coaches. Yeah, see, that is before my time. That is before my time. Pat Burns was the Leifs' coach. Like, for my first Leifs memories. And he carried himself in a way that made me feel like he was the only person tougher than my dad because I was a little kid. It's okay, Cassia. I knew meant utter. I knew you meant utter. All right. So while we're on break, please don't go away.
We're going to watch a little Oh, Wow, where I break down some OHL highlights, amazing plays in this league. When we come back, hockey cards, a guy with a better voice, and who knows what else? Who knows? Who the hell knows? We should know. We don't. Who the hell knows, man? Anyway, Anyway, enjoy the latest episode of Oh, Wow.
Oh, Wow. Hello, friend Steve Dangle here. Welcome to the Sdpn YouTube channel and another episode of Oh, Wow, where we take a look at the best plays from around the Ontario Hockey League over the past week. We have to start with a truly ridiculous one because the man's name is literally Precision, although apparently he pronounces it Precession. Well, with 20 goals so far of the season, he's created a procession of pucks towards the net. How about that? I'll stop. Show the clip.
And procession break out.
Tarian across the line. Puck in front. The procession out of been hair redirected in behind floors. He threads the needle right here, leading him at a man with a little knucklepuck going off the defenseman stick. And procession has a presence of mind to wait till the puck drops.
Oh, wow. Some goals are impressive and you go, Oh, I got to see that This is one of those ones where I'm like, Sorry, let me see that again. You hear the change in tone? It's important. Your eyes do not deceive you. The puck is deflected up high, and I don't know what anyone thought was about to happen, but not this. 6'3 and Anaheim Ducks prospect, Ethan Procession bats the puck on his backhand out of midair. Decent little milestone goal, too. That was his 20th of the season in just his 29th game. Now, why is that important? Well, This past June, Ethan Procession was drafted in the third round by the Anaheim Ducks after a 62-game season where he had 15 goals and 36 points. This season, in just 29 games, he's already at 32 points, so he's almost beaten his OHL high. In terms of goals, he blew past it long ago, going from 15 to 20 already. Ethan Procession from Wasega Beach, Ontario. Remember the name? What a season he's having and what a goal Oh, wow. Now, sorry to disappoint everyone, but this next highlight features a puck that goes along the ice.
I know. But it's yet another 2024 third-round pick, this time from the Washington Capitals, Ilia Prodis with the Windsor spitfires. Watch this solo effort.
And Kichner spitfires had played an egg, really. The Rangers had the lead. Here's Produs, slips through and scores. Magic man, Ilia Produs gives the spitfires the lead. This is a beautiful solo effort by Ilyia Prodas as he works his way through the Kichner defenders. It's a one on three. He just holds that fuck, waits for Parsons to open up the pads, and he's able just to slide that thing in.
From the last highlight, Ethan Procession drafted 68th overall in 2024 by the Anaheim Ducks. Ilyia Prodas drafted 75th overall in 2024, this by the Washington Capitals. Ethan Procession, 6'3, 18-year-old. That's ridiculous. Eliott Prodas says, Oh, yeah, and he's 18. He's 6'5. What are they putting? Is it the cereal? Is it something in the cereal? This is a skill play, but it's also a stick-with-it play. There's sticks everywhere, defensive sticks especially, trying to get in your way and cause a kerfuffle. But Produs never gets tripped up physically or mentally, and he sticks with the buck and buries the thing. This season, there really has been no stopping this kid. 29 games, he already has 19 goals. That's pretty good. 25 assists. He's nearly an assist a game. What do you do? His 44 points in 29 games somehow doesn't lead the Winsor's pitfires in scoring. That's Liam Green tree with 51 points, but it's good enough for second, and that goal is good enough to be featured in O'WOW. For our next O'WOW, is it another third rounder? I don't think so. Jake O'Brien, still just 17, He didn't turn 18 until June, is capable of this in his draft year.
And got dropped by Gallon. Jake O'Brien off the wall after LeBlau stepped in.
Scores. Oh, my goodness, for agent. Jake O'Brien put on the tap shoes. He just walked right through and banked it.
I couldn't even muster an Oh, wow on that one. Can we see it again and just pay close attention to the call on the goal.
Corner and got dropped by Gallon.
Jake O'Brien off the wall after LeBois stepped in. Scores. Oh, my goodness gracious. Jake O'Brien put on the tap shoes. He just walked right He broke the roof and banked it.
Dude, it's less that they're impressed by the goal and more that they're just actually terrified of what they've seen. No one's supposed to be able to do that, and he can already do it in a 17. That was one of 16 goals goals that O'Brien has in 31 games to start this season, in 38 points, well over a point of game in his draft year. Do you think people might notice the Brantford Bulldog's talent? I think they will. Not to mention, this is after he had 64 points in 61 games last year, and he's already got three more goals. He's absurd. The fact that Jake O'Brien is very likely going to get better than he already is, and he is already capable of that, oh, wow. For our next highlight, speaking of dudes who I'm fairly confident are going to get drafted in June, are you aware of the legend, the growing legend of Porter Martone? Coming off of a '71 point season last year in 60 games, he is blowing the doors off this year. On this one, well, I'll let him do the talking.
And Sova got in the way. Martone in alone. Here's Martone through the legs. He scores. How How many times is this kid going to pull off greatness? He does it again. Breakaway for the Brampton Steel. It's in this time a goal, one that you don't see many more better than that. He goes to his back and then pulls it back through his legs. Not exactly sure. I think it went underneath the pad.
We can't call this video series, Can we? Corte Martone has played 26 games. Porto Martone has 54 points. Corte Martone is playing for Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships. After the World Junior Hockey Championships are done, Porter Martone is also the captain of the Mississippi Steelheads. If you can make it, you should probably make it out to a few games to watch Porter Martone. The showmanship with the goal, the showmanship with the It's a beautiful thing. Oh, wow. For her next highlight, some more young talent from around the OHL, Matthew Schafer, dude. He's only 17, and he already played a 56-game season in the OHL with the Erie Otters last This year, the Stoney Creek native is over a point of game as a defenseman, and this is the thing he can do. This is a sweet dish.
Here is Schafer. Schafer always knows when to turn defense into attack. Driving in, dancing around. Schafer pass. Oh, my goodness. Malcolm Spence taps it in.
But Matthew Schafer, he just danced around three to give the Otters a 4-1 lead. I I feel bad because the star attraction for this goal is the pass, but someone had to score it. Malcolm Spence is the name of the player who scored it. He's part of a trio of guys who have 37 points for the Erie Otters. In a three-way tie, it is Malcolm Spence, Sam Alfano, and Panofimus. The kid's getting all the attention, but I had to give a little shoutout. Matthew Schafer. Turning defense into offense in just a dazzling way. Like the move, the feed. Oh, man. The read, the confidence. Confidence. Matthew Schafer, just, oh, wow. For our last play in Oh, Wow! This week, producer Drew sent this to me. It just says, Beckett Seneca, the best goal I've ever seen. All right, let's see it.
Inside, he gets leveled out by Kolby Barlow. Seneca takes it away at center. He walks into the net. He scores. Oh, my goodness. Beckett Seneca undresses the London defense, and he gives Oshua a 5-3 lead with 7:34 to go in the third. And he walked around Sam Dickinson and put it bar down. It's five unanswered, and it's a two-goal lead.
Oh, wow. Dude, I'm never going to give up on this.
How isn't Beckett Seneca on Team Canada?
The third overall pick from this past June is 46 points in 27 games, and that was one of them. Goodness gracious.
The guy, he did it to Dickinson on London.
It'd be one thing if he pulled that move on me, but he's actually pulling it on a competent hockey player. Dude, who needs someone to send you the fuck when you could always set yourself up from the feet? Dude, you make that move, you might not score. Then no one remembers the move, but he buried it. One of the nastiest goals from the OHL this season, Beck and Seneca. Oh, wow. He could honestly do something to be in these videos every single week. Before we wrap it up, huge shout out to you because you've been sending me and producer Drew lots of great clips and great highlights from around the OHL to be featured in Oh, wow. That really helps us find a variety of different things to include. But for now, that is it for this edition of Oh, wow. Thank you very much for watching.

They're decent. Hello, everyone. Steve Dangle here. Welcome to the Sdpn YouTube channel. I really hope you enjoyed that episode of Oh, Wow, that we just showed. I want to apologize to producer Hayden and also throw my wife under the bus. I came downstairs and I'm like, All right, all I got to do, I got my tea here. I got my my lozenges, and all I need is my hockey cards and my Pokémon cards. I come downstairs, my wife put them away, and I don't know where. So I was rumaging through everything and creating the very mess that she cleaned up, I'm sure. And I was almost late, but I was not late. I'm back. We're still in intermission. We got Pokémon cards. We got hockey cards. We'll start with Pokémon cards. Nick Elme. Robertson has a deceptively hard shot, 95 plus kilometers an hour. Always has. Always has One of the biggest what-ifss for his development is if he went back to junior. He had another year left, but COVID screwed it up. He was at a goal of game pace with a year of eligibility left. He was good. Oh, I missed a super chat.
Shame on me. Thank you, producer Hayden, for spotting that. Veto Lamb. Hey, Steve, what are your thoughts on wearing a leaf's jersey to a Scepter's game? We'll be visiting from Alberta, and my wife got us tickets. I think that's fine. I think that's fine. I don't think anyone should give you grief for it. I don't think anyone should give you grief for any jersey you bring to any game. I think that's weird behavior. Now, if you're cheering something and I don't like it, then okay, fine. The supporters section and the visiting section are separated by chain link fence at soccer games in Scotland. I know this because I went. Emojalapeno with a dad joke. Where do you send someone after they've had a peekaboo accident? I don't know. Can't wait for the answer. Adam P. Steve, what's your all-time favorite Pokémon? Articuno. Aqigamer. You got the LFR title backwards. It's supposed to be Jolly Wally to reference McClay's Navy. Oh, I think you meant McCale's Navy. How dare you? Okay, Pokémon cards. Let's get this done. Oh, basic. Evy. By the way, these are the original 151, the special pack. That's the name of your dog, producer Hayden.
Pull a Char's artery, we unsub. I'll try. Not to be confused with James Grimer. Weedle. Oh, this is going to drive... Adam's going to be so pissed. Zubat. That's an old podcast reference. We hate frigging Zubats. This is a pretty good card, Lapris. Very good card. Cycling Road. Cyzor. Squirtle.
Squirtle, squirtle.
Oh, we pulled a crazy card, folks. Energy Sticker. I'm going to save the crazy card for last. Basic Energy. I think that's just called Starbucks, isn't it? Some Pokémon Redeem code. I don't know what that is. This is the crazy card. Aqua gamer. I'd laugh if he drew an Articuno card. God, I wish. Pretty good, though. Vileplume, a 140 HP Vileplume with fully-blooming energy and Solarbeam. Folks, that's a good card. That is a real good card. We're still in commercial, which means we're still in intermission, which means we have time to open hockey cards. Maybe we'll get a Charzard in this one. I doubt it. Cassie, how do you tell the difference between a plumber and a chemist? You asked them to pronounce the word unionized. Oh, wait, that's a chemistry joke, not a union joke. I'm stupid. Fabian Zetterland. Jared Martin is correct. Steve is the goat. Like the stream, folks. West Richard gifted 50 SEPN memberships. The third 50 piece dropped on us tonight. Let's keep it going. Ryan O'Reilly, we're about to return for the second period. Charlie Coil, boo. Jesper Brott, Quin Hughes. Old-school rookie of Kam Ward. That's crazy. Old-school young guns.
A real young guns of Mason Morelli from the Vegas Goldenites. He was a high pick, wasn't he? Aimbots, Braden Point. Special insert. Never seen that. Andre Svechnikow, Ryan McDonald, Mikhael Sergachev, now a collector's item. Zack Warenzky might win the Norris. That's a good pack. As we finish that up just in time for the beginning of the second period. God, I'm good at this. Leap win the face off. I didn't clap. You It's within the neutral zone they come to me. And we'll call that icing, 15 seconds. That's not a rebuttal yet. Lester's third. It is the season of giving. Very happy I think I sound underwater. That usually comes water. Now you can't hear me at all. All right. That just happens sometimes. And the thing that usually fixes it is nothing. I don't know. It just goes back to normal after a few seconds. Sabers have it. 19:26 to go in the second. 25, 24, 23, 22, for those of you trying to sync up your streams. Bowen Byram with it at the point, gives it to Rasmus Dahlene on the left. He goes deep into the leave zone behind the net Oh, good defensive stick from William Neillander because the Sabers might have had a tap in there.
Leaps go for the line change. Sabers create a turnover, and here they come. Four on two. Sabers shoot, blocked by Connor Timmins. They still have it. Tuck. Of the net. Oh, you got to get it, boys. Sabers, oh, just... No, they call it offside. Oh, that was very close. Leaps, guys. Come on, come on. You're making this game too interesting. As Aquagamer, Sean Sheenly, I approved of the underwater voice. Yeah, that happens Excuse me, a few times a stream. Don't know what causes it. It's probably a software issue because the mic is totally fine. I don't know. Nice. Oh, jeez. Goes one on three there. 18:30 to go in the second one-timer, Saber's. Fire it just wide. Saber is definitely controlling this game since the Leaps made it two-nothing. Benson attacking hounded by Nye's, helps create the turnover. Robertson's got a two-on-one with Max Domi. Robertson shoots. Scores. Don't let the kid get hot. Don't let the kid get hot. Unbelievable. Oh, if Robertson Robertson's got an open lane on you, just know that your five hole's dead. It's dead. His release is stupid. Look at that. Upl is going to get dumped on by Saber's fans who don't know better.
Robertson's shot is crazy. You can't give up on this kid. Eight points this season, six points in his last three Three games. Puck has dropped. Leaps up three, nothing. Robertson's shot is stupid. It's so good. And on this line that's back out there There again. Yes, maximum domey indeed. On this line, Robertson is playing a good all-around game. He's not just a shot. Oh, Saber's. Oh, That's not a great goal on Matt Murray. That is not a great goal. And the third line is out there for that one. Yeah, it's not a good goal at all. 1738. There it is again, left in the second period. Benoît can't get it out. Robertson maybe should have there. Oh, boy, that's terrible. That's terrible. Who shot that? Cousins gets it to... Is that Payton Krebs? No, JJ Paterka, who's a very good player and can shoot it, but that can't go in. That's not an NHL goal. Yuck. Don't love that. Murray has had a pretty good game. That's not a good goal. He makes... Oh, jeez. Makes a save, gives up a huge rebound. Luckily, it does not make its way to the net. 17, 15 to go in the second period.
Leaps go outside, 17, 13 to go in the second period. Leaps, three; Saber's, one. Cassie, let's talk about the pens. Sid's assist on the first goal last night was disgusting. Him yelling F you to the guy who threw a late hit on him had me cackling. Michael McCarron, I I think was the guy. He's awesome. Puck is about to be dropped. I'm actually going to clap this time. They dropped the puck. Tate Thompson wins it. Sabers have it. Murray plays the puck to Connor Timmins, gets it to John Tavares in the neutral zone. Strong power move there. Gets it to Reilly. That one just goes wide. That was Paterka's ninth of the season, by the way. Cousins getting an assist on that as well. Cousins, who has been in trade talks, I don't know why. Oh, what a play by Tuck. Almost scored there. Matthews gets it out of the zone. He's joined by William Neylander. This is Matthews with Patchereddy and Neylander. I don't know if this is on purpose or not. Apologies for the cop, folks. I can't help it. I don't even really feel sick. It's just a little scratch. Marner. He's with Matthews and Nies now.
Nice. Great strength around the net. Sticks with it, tries to get it to Matthews. Doesn't work. Daleen does a good job to break that up. Emojalapina Sorry, I should have included my answer. Where do you send someone after a peekaboo accident? The ICU. Boo. Byram, 15:45, left in the second. Up the ice. Here come the sabers. Wide open Bensen can't handle the pass. Marner, up the ice. Mcmahon, hook past for Domi, who snipes it. Maximum Domi. Oh, my gosh. What a play. I think it was Marner who started it all the way back in his own zone. Bobby McMahon with the speed, with the spin, with the pass, and Domi roofs it. It was indeed Marner off the skate of Benson, up to M McMahon. The third line redeems itself awful quickly. That's disgusting. And who knew that the thing to save Max Domi's season is the Buffalo Sabers, just like his old man. Is Lindy Ruff taking a time out here? I think he is. 15. Oh, Reimer's in net now. What's UPL supposed to do? Reimer in net in the GOAT head jersey. Upl pulled. Leaps up 4-1. Almost knocked over my teeth.
That would have sucked a lot. 23, plaster. Wouldn't it be the leafiest thing ever if the Leaps lost? If they lost against Reimer with a 4-1 lead? Yes. Yes. Puck has dropped. 15-30 to go in the second. Third line out there again. They're not going to want to surrender a goal like they did last time they scored. Domi, good defensive stick. Saber's holding on to it. Tanev to Robertson, feathers it to Domi. He's hit off the buck. Robertson in pursuit. Domi gets it to McMahon. Mcmahon on. Stop by Reimer. Robertson and Reimer having a conversation there. Robertson was driven into the goalpost. I think he's okay. Reimer is okay, too. 14:45 to go in the second. Holmberg in the corner. Sabre's corner, tries to get it to Timmins, keeps it alive with Kempf. Lawrence, decent little hit. Holmberg, great job keeping the play alive, or rather They're keeping the buck in the Ozone, I should say. It didn't exactly keep the play alive. Oh, Connor Timmins just... Or was that Tanev? Completely yard-saled. One of the least defensemen. It's Tanev and Timmins for some reason. This is the first time Max Domi has had goals in three consecutive games since the 19-20 season.
So this is the first time Domi has had goals in three straight games post-COVID. Oh, the Saber. What a save from Matt Murray. Holy cow. Stacks the pads. Saber's still with it. They shoot. That goes out of play. What a save from Matt Murray. That happened like a flash. I didn't even see who that was. Alex Tuck burning Getting Jake McCabe alive and totally bailed out by Matt Murray. Tell you what, bud, you're redeemed. That was crazy. This reminds me of Matt Murray when he was first with the Leifs. He wouldn't have a bad game, per se. You'd be like, Yeah, I remember him making some really big saves. And then you look, and he's allowed four, almost every time. He's only allowed one to Two, technically, but they called one back. So technically, one, I guess. Matt Gould, that's a maximum domey. Are you going to miss the Sabers when they move out of Buffalo in 2027 after the arena This is up, says Josh Bittiner. There's zero chance of that happening. Row Live. Wow, my stream crashed twice in the last three minutes. I've missed all three goals this period. Oh, no, that sucks.
David David Owens. This has to be the third line for game one of the playoffs. No. I mean, it's growing on me for sure. My guess is when the playoffs start, they'll have a bigger, nastier line, but they're playing so well. I don't know. Here's the great news. It's December. We don't have to answer that for January, February, March, April. Almost four in the full months. Nick Elme, every time I look up, the third line is on. Good. Alex, is this what depth goaltending feels like? Boy, the story of Matt Murray changed pretty quick, eh? Leaps have a great situation, man. Their top two goalies are great. Puck has dropped. I didn't see the face off because they didn't show it. Their top two goalies are doing great. Murray's the veteran backup, and you got two young guys in the minors playing pretty well. Hildeby is not playing the greatest this season, but he was an AHL All-Star last year, and Artur Akhtimov has not lost in regulation. It's a great... This is the healthiest the Leaps have been in net. Organizationally, in a very long time. I can't remember the last time it was this deep.
Sabers, get into the leave zone. Matt Nies gets... Oh, Neylander break away, but he was offside, and he fell, and it was embarrassing. 12:41 to go in the second period. Strange Radios. Idea for friendly bet on the podcast. With Ovi returning, you guys could predict who you think will assist on the record-breaking goal. Who wouldn't want that assist? That's a great That's a good bet. I should take that. 12:41 to go in the second. Puck is dropped. Top line out there for the Leaps. They come up with it. Mccabe Playing the right side on a pairing with Benwa right now. The least pairings have been all over the place tonight. I mean, Ekman Larson got hit in the balls. Tanev might have broke his nose. Reilly got into a fight. He's been slightly unhinged. Tate Thompson, who Reilly fought, enters the zone. Saber shoot, stop by Murray. The rebound control is leaving something to be desired tonight, but he makes the save. Sabre's, shot. That doesn't make it on. Shot again, doesn't make it on. Marner calms things down. Jake McCabe, 11:51 to go in the second period. Cassie, NHL, where are my Four Nations jerseys?
I want to spend money. Apparently, they're not coming out till January, which is dumb because apparently, the NHL has never heard of Christmas. Saber's with it in the neutral zone. They gained the leave zone. Wait for reinforcements. Timmins doing his best behind the net. Domi in support. Saber's at the point. Pressure by Robertson. Mcmahon with a good defensive stick. Leaps hemmed in a little here, but they're doing their best. This is part of the reason I have reservations about the third line. They can score. We know that. But whenever people talk about game one of the playoffs, I'm like, It's December. Calm down. Saber still have it, by the way. Dalleen shoots, goes for a deflection, doesn't work. Mcmahon after it. Benson, get it out. Mcmahon finally gets it out, rugby's it across the line, and he'll dump it. Domi was tripped there. No call. 10:40 to go in the second period. Murray holds on to it at 10:30 to go. Edwin Beare. I want everyone to know I'm reading Edmund Beare's comment. I know Rhymer is apparently a nice guy, but as a gay guy, start the gong show, please. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
I mean, yeah. 10:30 to go in the second. Puck is dropped. Leaps win the face-off. Tanev to Steven Lawrence. Nice move from David Kempf to get it out. Doesn't give it to anyone in particular. Pontus Holmberg is on it, though. Oh, Lawrence creates a turnover right in front of the Sabre's net. Shot from the point. Ackman I don't know if that was stopped or blocked. It doesn't matter. It didn't go in. Holmberg with it. Gilbert knocks Holmberg to the ice. He gets right back. He leaves almost creating another turn over there. Good start to a fourth-line shift here. 9:50 to go in the second. Sabre's out of reach of Paterka, and they will ice it. 9:46 to go in the second. Cassie, you don't need to know. Sorry. You said, 'Uch. ' NHL makes me want to put my head through a wall. So I spoke to my doctor about that. That's bad for you. 9:46 to go in the second Good. Face-off in the Saber zone. John Tavares wins it clean. Reilly, oh, feathers it in. And Tavares redirects it, stopped by Reimer, which is strange for me to say. Oh, Pache already got leveled there.
Good defensive support from the Leifs here. They might turn this back into offense. Willy turns back to Timmins. Don't love that pass to the right hander. 9:20 to go in the second. Lefs still have it. They regain the Ozone. Nielander, he's got patches. He scores. And I think just gave Rhymer a sweet chin music. Oh, dear. Max Paturetti scores on a wonderful feed from William Nielander, on the same shift where he was taken down. But is Reimer all right? Reimer just got back up. Oh, boy. Yeah, watch this replay. That could have been real bad. Oh, wow. Yeah, Patch ready scores the goal. And after the puck is already in the net, Patch ready falls down. But as he's falling down, his skate comes perilously close to Reimer's face and neck. Patch ready's fifth of the season as the play resumes. Neelander and Tavares with their 15th assist each. Emojalapino, gifting five SDPN memberships. Love you. Marner gets it out of the zone, finds Matthews. Matthews chops it in, doesn't receive the pass cleanly. It Boy, Matthews looks pretty good right now. Cycles it back. Nice. Saber's back up the other way, 8:30 to go.
Refs have really put their whistles away on account of, I think they probably feel bad about what happened in the first period, which I suppose I understand. Nies dumps 18, 12. Sorry, 8, 12 to go in the second period. Crazy to think this game is barely over halfway done. Here come the Sabers. Shot. That one's high and wide. Shot 16 to 14 for the leaves, by the way. Zucker, pressured by OEL. Tanev sweeps it away. Someone's got to go get that. Oel gets it. Robertson picks it up. I can't get out of the zone. That has to get across the blue line, kid. And they call it on the offside. Cassie said, You reminded me, do you want the story of my concussion? Yes. I always want someone's... Whenever someone is like, Do you want to hear my injury story? I'm like, Yes, I can't help it. It's rude to ask someone. There's an awkward... We're just not going to talk about it. But if they go, Hey, you want to hear this? I go, Yeah. Every time. Yeah. No. I want to know. Tell me. So we'll wait on that. Aqogamer, sell the team, Terry Pagula.
Dude, he just doesn't seem interested. You know what I mean? He seems just too focused on the bills. David Owens, patch his goal, least win over. 5.5 pays out my parlay. Subs coming if they don't blow it. Oh, really? This is why I'm $2, Steve. I just... I don't know. Like, Drew bet on a savers. He had a parlay that included the Sabers getting a shout out. And I just don't think I could bring myself to do that. Cassie, I'll DM it to It's a bit long. Okay. Can I say it on the stream? Surely. So if you know Sabers' fan, Dwayne, he goes, I hope you guys blow us the F out. I just responded, same. Oh, jeez. I never tweeted the link, did I? Idiot. All right, well, let me do it. Puck has dropped 7:45 to go in the second period. Sabre's gained the leaf zone. Where is it? It's behind the leaf's net. Oel after it. Tanev. Can't get it off Dauleen, who has been everywhere tonight. Zucker. Oh, that's a good feed. Stop by Murray. I don't think he got every bit of that shot. Stop coughing. Dallin with it at the point.
Pacheereddy does a good job taking it off him, and he gets out of the zone. Tavares, one on one against Byram. He drives He waits for enforcements. Shot, stopped by Reimer. 5-1 is the score. Goodness. Neylander drops it. Oh, back to Neylander, he can't get the shot off in front. Oh, I thought Holmberg scored there. I thought that was David Kempf. I'm like, who the hell is Neylander on the ice with right now? Now, the Leaps play tomorrow, and you can't really take your foot off the gas because it's the NHL, even if it's the Sabers. But you play tomorrow. So the way Berube manages his bench for the rest of the game is going to be fascinating. Reilly puts it on. Stop. 6:26 to go in the second Where'd it go? Behind Holmberg. Lawrence, after it. I'm guessing you're going to see a lot more of this line. Lawrence, after it. Cliff Almost put that over the glass. Did not. Here comes Benson, just on side. He's got Krebs with him. Krebs turns around. Hit. Marner kicks it, but not out. Saber. Thought they go for the one time. They don't. They shoot. That doesn't make it through.
Holmberg is tired. He's been out for quite a while. Matthews and Marner out there. Matthews can't take it off. Power, power shoots. Stop by Murray. And oh, McCabe takes exception to the poking of Murray. I think that's Dylan Cousins, and they're going at it. They would have fought had the refs not got involved there. Producer Hayden as Trivia. What's the Trivia, Bud? Commercial break, by the way. Leaves, fourth Line Center, David Kampf. Who does he have his most career points against? Okay, let's answer your question with a question. How many career points does he have? Total career points. I'm going to guess 45. And please tell me in how many games. David Kempf has 143 points, 133 points in four games shy of 500, three after tonight. And who does he have his most career points against? The total is eight points. I want to say he had a three-point night. Oh, man, Who is it against? I feel like you're setting me up. It couldn't be the Sabers. It's not the Sabers. I'm going to go with a Western conference team because he spent most of his career with Chicago. Oh, I mean, the person who's asking me the question, is it the Minnesota Wild?
It's not. Who is it? The Nashville Predators. See, that's surprising because the preds were good for most of his time as a Blackhawk, and the Blackhawks were bad, actually. Good Trivia. Tony Lee, who ends up with more goals by the end of the season? Patches or Robertson? Both are at five goals as of tonight. I'm going to go with Patches. He scored 30 goals multiple times. He's in the top six. He's going to get more opportunity than Robertson. Patches is not a healthy scratch risk right now. I mean, neither is Robertson the way he's playing. Four on four action coming out of the break here. 5:35 to go in the second. I assume it's McCabe and Cousins in the box right now. Yeah. Robert Bet, Worst hockey card you ever got. Mine was a family member who knows nothing about hockey, gave me a card. It was Jesperi Khakunyami right after he scored the overtime goal against the Leaps. I was upset, but he didn't That's hilarious. I'll have to think about that. Tanev with it. 517 to go in the second period. Tanev out there with OEL, it looks like. Matthew's out there, and Marner.
Here comes Marner. Oh, shot. That goes over Reimer. Still 5-1 leaves, by the way. Tavares out there for the leaves right He's chasing Alex Tuck. Tuck gives it to Dahlene. So Chris Draper was my guy when I was a big hockey card kid in the late '90s, and I think I got a Clawed the Mue card, and I hated it. Oh, Daleen, stopped by Murray deep in his net, but he makes the save. Here comes William Neylander with speed shot. Misses very high and very wide against James Reimer. Saber's with it. Power. No one man should have all that. Saber's with it in their own zone. 42 seconds to go in this four-on-four action. 4:12 to go in the second period. Power Passed. Interrupted by McMahon, but the Sabers still have it. Oh, open shot. Scored. That was a pretty wide open opportunity for Samuelson. 4:04 to go in the second period. The Sabers pulled within three. What is... Am I the only person who saw that? A Habs fan in the stands standing up and clapping? Get a life Yeah, I don't love Murray's positioning on that goal, but I mean, it is a pretty wide open scoring chance.
And who's out there? There's McMahon. It's the Riley-Timmins pair. I guess you can't blame it on the third line on account of its four on four, but there's at least Ease McMahon has been on the ice for two goals against, right? He's been unreal, but this is my reservation with the third line. Matthews to Marner. Marner as Tanev. That was Danielson's second goal of the season. Matthews. He's got a little space, puts it on. Marner wax it at Reimer. God, that feels so weird to say. Ectma Larson, Matthews, stopped by Reimer. The four-on-four is over. Marner, around. Kempf is out there now. Marner. Oh, Lawrence. Didn't get the fuck in time. Here come the Sabers. Timmins and Benwa out there right now. Oh, Cassie sent that concussion story. I'll wait for intermission. I'll read it, then we'll play the clip. Under three minutes to go in the second period, Mike Martell As a longtime Buffalo fan, I'm starting to look at prospects available at the top end of the 2025 draft. I don't think that's a terrible idea. Good news is I think it's supposed to be a pretty good draft. Is Is Pontes Humbert getting a penalty for that?
He is tripping on Tate Thompson, I believe. Ken Makenna saved the Sabers? Who's McKenna? Oh, the guy that's going to go first overall? See, is it McKenna, or is that the kid who's supposed to go next year? I know Michael Misa is going this year. Oh, McKenna is next year. Yeah, no, that kid's crazy. I mean, if the Sabers are still asked, then yeah, maybe he will. Holmberg in the box, 2:17 to go in the second. Do not let the Saber's pulled it within two before intermission. Doug Lee fan, Steve, that goal went off McMahon's stick. Did it? Well, that might explain it then. Well, thank you. I will go easy on Murray then. Allison Wolf started a I got a new job a few weeks ago after losing my previous job earlier this year, and I finally got paid. Love the channel and go, Leifs. Go. Thank you, Allison. And congrats to you. 217 to go in the second period. Saber's power play about to begin. Face off, Cork is dropped. Leaps win the draw. Oh, no. Tana fans on it. Back behind the Leaps net. Matthews gets it and fires it down the ice.
That wasn't flying. That was falling with style. 152 to go in the second period. Intercepted. Marner dumps it. A quarter of this Saber's penalty is gone. 145 to go in the second period. Not a ton of time between this penalty being killed in the end of the second period. Hopefully, the penalty gets killed. Cleared by the leaves again. A minute 30 to go in the second, buck twelve to go in the power play. Minute 20 to go in the second period. Minute to go in the power play. Here come the Sabers with the 30th ranked power play in the NHL coming into this game. But you never know. Shot. Stop by Murray. Oh, Sabers hold the line. Shot. I don't think that hit the net. A minute to go in the second period. 40 seconds to go in the power play. Sabers working it around. Shot. Gobled up by Murray, 36 seconds to go in the power play. Zucker and Benwa, What's the word? Jousting after the whistle. I want to give a shout out to Darren Dregger, who tweeted, I appreciate the NHL and NHLPA are working on a comprehensive plan to help former players.
Listening to Glenn Healey in this episode It sounds like a plan that should be finalized. Darren Dregger is talking about Glenn Healey appearing on Agent Provocateur with Alan Walsh. We'll talk about that more in a minute. Puck has dropped. Matthews can't win the draw. Tuck. Really good player. Stop by Daulean at the blue line. It's weird to say in a game where his team has given up five, but he's looked good. Cousins. Oh, blocked by 10. If that looked like it hurt. Matthews around, and he gets it out 30 seconds to in the second, 12 seconds to go in this power play. Jeez, the savers should get you up here. Get possession in the leave zone before the penalty is up. Instead, they don't. Nye's Chips it out. I thought they could have turned that into a thing. 8, 7, 6. Saber's way up the ice, and that's going to be icing with exactly three seconds to go in the second period. Shout out to Canadian Girl 83, gifted five SDPN memberships. And JV, who knows where the Sabers would be if Bob Dylan had accepted that invitation to the game in Prague. I love that story.
He ran into the sabers in an elevator when they were in Europe to start the season, and they invited him to a game, and he was like, Ah, sorry, I got to perform tonight. Nylander for the face-off, he loses it, and the second period is over. Five, two at the end of two. And I mean, this game doesn't have to be over. And the sabers look good when they're playing, but boy, their body language is rotten. Robertson with a goal, Patches with a goal, Domi with a goal, McMahon with a goal. It's good stuff, baby. Owen V. Steve, Habs Jersey is in my section. I just saw Hilarious. Hilarious. Tell him we said, What's up? Oh, yeah. No, still not as bad as the father-daughter thing, that where the opposing team's jersey to every leaf came. Do whatever you want with your money. I think it's weird behavior, okay? Okay. What's weirder is Sportsnet and TSN choosing to put these guys on camera every night. What are you doing? It's Toronto. There's other fans of other teams. Stop. Stop is all I'm saying. It's not cute. Dude's a scalper. I don't give a shit. Get them off my screen.
Steven Emmerich. I live in Niagara, and I can't stream the game on Major Canadian Sports Network because apparently, Niagara is in the Buffalo broadcast market. Cassie, Cassie, gave me a concussion story. Let me read it. Okay, so I'm an X-ray tech, right? This is from Cassie of the Cassie clan. Okay, so I'm an X-ray tech, right? So we have this wall board we use for standing stuff, usually chest X-rays and spine stuff. She provided a picture. Can you see it? Here we That's what it looks like. Anyway. So I'm an X-ray tech, right? So we have this wall board we use for standing stuff, usually chest X-rays and spine stuff. This board usually has a bar on the top of it that we use for patients to hold on to to get their arms out of the way. Now, this thing is made of metal, even if it doesn't look like it. So I was going to move it out of the way since I wasn't using it. Now, whoever put it in before me didn't do it right, so it was stuck. So I'm trying to get it unstuck, and I'm fighting with it.
Not my best moment, but it becomes unstuck and drops full speed right on top of my head, damn near knocked me out, sat in the dark the whole weekend, and didn't completely go away until last week, two weeks total. That reminds me of... So I've never been diagnosed with a concussion. I can confidently say I have had a concussion, the worst one, and I should have gone to the hospital. I don't have this now, but at my old place in Oshua, we had this little crawl space on top of the garage. You can climb up with a little ladder, where we kept our winter tires. So I sent my wife up there to pass down the winter tires. The reason she went up there is she's 5 feet tall. I'm 5'10. It makes more sense for the shorter person to go up there. Also, I'm down below, so I have to catch it. We completely miscommunicate. The tire does not go into my hands. It falls directly on to my head, and it wasn't the rubber part of the tire. The rim of the tire. If you've ever picked up a tire before, you know they are sturdy.
They are light, and it knocked me right on my ass, and I should have gone to the hospital. I definitely had a concussion. I already had some neck issues. I think that probably contributed to it. Producer Hayden, now that we've all exchanged concussion stories, our clip for the second intermission, I believe, is about the New York Rangers. Oh, Justin Sent me a superchat I missed. How about we do that first? James David Atkinson. Hello. It has been almost exactly a year to the day since Buffalo beat the Leifs 9-3. If the Sabers didn't have bad luck, they'd have no luck at all. Man, you know what was hilarious about that? It was the breaking point. The Sabers indirectly saved the Leifs season in a way. Because Samsonov was... I think that was the straw that broke the camel's back. He goes down in the minors, he comes back up. He's great. I know what happened in the play-ups, but the Leaps were able to depend on him after Wall got hurt, and he was great. And it was because of that game. But I believe Samsonov played really well. He might have even got a shutout against the Sabers the next time he played them.
I think it was in Buffalo. And when Sammie was asked about that, he's like, Yeah, what did we lose last time. 93, F that. Sammie was a beauty. I wish him nothing but success. Joe, my spare's tire is soft as can be. Oh, he's talking about his gut. Yeah, no, this was a real tire you put on a car, and it hurt. So let's get to our super... Nope. Let's get to our intermission clip. Do not go away. Leave the stream open, because we will be right back for the third period of a game the Leaps are winning 5-2 in Buffalo. Leaps with a three-goal lead heading into the third period. James Reimer is in net for the other team.
There is.
I want to I want everybody to be aware because Jesse was bang on the money when we started this show. Florida did not have a great follow-up to their President's Trophy year, except for when they hit the playoffs. All New York really needs to do is clean it up a little bit, make the playoff-I don't think that's what I'm saying at all.
They need to start opening some doors.
I don't think that's what you were saying, but what I was coming into say, is there are plenty of teams that have a bad fall off after a President's Trophy win and do perfectly fine.
No, the President Trophy thing has nothing to do with what we're talking about.
They won it last year.
I think it has a little bit to do with it.
Oh, yeah. No, I mean, the argument about its meaning to the game of hockey has nothing to do with it. Okay. No, I think it's an important point to illustrate how good they were last year, and they went to the Eastern Conference Finals and all that. But the point about, I don't think how much it should mean anything to the sport of hockey is a completely different discussion that can take minutes if we want to have that some other day. So the Rangers.
Yes.
They're quite bothered right now.
That is the players. Obviously, they had their closed-door meeting. Obviously, Peter Labillet is frustrated. I know for a fact, it is permeating through the offices there. Everything going on is an enormous distraction. They're jittery about what people are saying out there, and they're trying to control the message. The only way to properly control the message, the narrative around your team, is to not on one of your worst skids in years and then get shut out by the team in last place. And things are going from bad to worse there. I think they're at a real breaking point here. And if I'm not mistaken, hasn't CJ said multiple times on the CJ show that the holiday moratorium on trading, making trades and all that is December 20th? I I doubt they rush into some things. It could be a spicy 24 hours or so in New York, but my guess is they wait on it, they stuff themselves full of a little bit of turkey, and then in the new year, we could see a brand new rangers team one way or another.
Well, I think, too, if you're a Rangers player, and you've gone and you've won the President's trophy, you got two wins away from the Stanley Cup final, and then two of your most popular teammates, because here's the deal with hockey players. They don't care what the cap is. They don't care what next year is. They care about right now. And you've gone and gone to the third round and you sacrificed your body and you've earned these no trade clauses.
Third round, twice in three years.
Yeah.
And you've put it all on the line for this franchise, and their response is, Hey, you didn't make the final, so let's start dismantling it. That's how they're going to see it. Now, from the other perspective, it could just be like, Hey, Chris Drury wants to squeeze those other two wins out, and he doesn't believe they're going to be able to get it done with this group, which then makes this group feel like, what is there not to believe in here? We were in the final four. We were two games away. It's so easy for an athlete's confidence to be shaken by somebody internally. They shot themselves in the foot because the general manager telegrapht a week and a half ago and last summer that this team, even though they've seen some success, is not good enough in my eyes. And The players, I think if you were to ask them, most of them would have wanted to keep it the way it was.
Here's what I would say. Well, yeah.
But I think- The Ravidance backs that, though. I think athletes default to the room, generally, and that's like across sports. I try to think back to the chapters, 2018, Lebronto and all that. They make it to the conference final again. They had done it at least twice. That's close, but it's not close. They weren't close.
They were so close and so far, and they had to do something.
I think the difference, besides it being basketball, is someone came in. They got rid of Barclays Goodro and replaced him with...
Okay. They got rid of Jacob Truba, and he's been replaced with...
They haven't done anything but subtract.
No, they added- From this group. They added Riley Smith. No, but you're acting like they needed Winger help, and he went out and got a Winger help. The Truba deal is freeing up the cap space because all of their young kids got good and they need new contracts. Every year- That's true. That's why on the same day you trade Truba, you sign Ygorusha Sterkett. Yes. Yes. Very nakedly. Don't act like they didn't get anything for Truba.
No, but also, okay, you're a cap team. Riley Smith is available every year.
Him or someone like him.
So So if I'm a Rangers fan, I'm not getting out of bed because, Oh, they got Riley Smith. He's done well there. That's great. But, man, you shive guys the way they've shiv them. You better be adding some real value here. Okay, Shesterken's salary is going up next year. What about this year? Truba is off the books this year. Goudro is off the books this year. What's next? What's next? Who am I getting? Who am I excited Who am I? They're just fending for themselves, and they're dying. These guys are either playing hurt or they're playing without confidence or whatever it is, because it's virtually the same group, and they're just drowning out there.
Every year, not even every year, every year or two, there's a team that has no business being this bad, and they're this bad, and this year, it's the Rangers. And I think Adam's right.
They're a hot week away from, All right, shake that off and go through the rest of the season, and they'll be fine.
And the joy of the cycle.
Freaking Pittsburgh turned the ship around. A bit, a bit, a bit.
It's been three days.
Sens turned the ship around.
Okay, fine. Fine.
A bit. Pittsburgh.
The avalanche?
The avalanche weathered a storm.
They weathered a storm.
Well, the storm was everyone's hurt. But the other storm, it's the movie The Perfect Storm, where two storms collied, was no goalies.
And they went out and they did something I haven't seen in a very long time, and that is before Christmas, they changed both their goals.
It's never happened before. Yeah. Never happened. Okay. Well, then that's a very long time. The Sabers did it over a full season, but no one's ever done it before Christmas.
Before Christmas? Yeah. Both goals you started the season with.
Jesse, how likely is it? How likely is it that they can clean this up? I'm not saying... We all know they can't. How likely is it? When I see Lingerin's interview yesterday, he seems so frustrated. It's almost like he doesn't know what to do. And a lot of people are pointing at him like, he's the problem.
Yeah. No, Lingerin had a bad game on Sunday. I don't think Lingerin was especially good at any moment on Sunday against St. Louis. They don't have a chance at all if the guys on the ice can't turn it around. Because I understand your point about, Hey, you wish Jury did more with the roster, but it's also the guys on the ice aren't playing well. You're You're not rewarding these players because they gave up on this season. So far, they have right now, especially with the efforts from the star players. It's not the kids who are not trying. Like, Kako, after getting scratched- Was pissed. He looks good. Again, nobody really looked spectacular. I shouldn't say that, but he looked decent against the preds.
He looked unscratchable.
He looked like he used to be a player who's in the lineup every day, and it's ridiculous that he's the person who gets the scratching on Sunday. But if we want to talk about the on-ice performance, the opening goal, it's Chad Ruïdl, it's Vaca Ninen, it's Zbina Jad, getting a three-on-two taken away, going the other way for the preds. The Forrestberg Stamkos Marcia Line trio that was out there looked like what Barry Trotz wanted and what he thought he was buying in the offseason. They looked like an all-star team on that first goal because- That is Very literally, you could see that at the All-Star Game in recent years. A hundred %. They look spectacular on this three and two, just eating these two defensemen alive and Zbinajad trying to get up in the rush because everybody looks out of place. Mika looks so slow, and the defensemen are making every error you can possible. I look at the on-ice product of the New York Rangers, and I say, It's not good enough. It's not good enough from the people you know should be better. You look at the head coaching. The head coach can't motivate anybody, and that's a large part of your job as a head coach, and you look at the general manager who is just just playing shenanigans with his team and doing whatever he wants with no regard for anybody's feelings, and that's not inspiring confidence.
I don't know where you go forward here.
He's on the It's a long app on his phone. I can tell you that. They have seven and a half million dollars of cap space, which is the good news. But like you said about rewarding the players and not wanting to do that, okay, you usually got to get a player of value of seven and a half million dollars of value, you got to pay something to get something.
Exactly.
They have all their first-round picks for the next three years. That's good. They don't have a second or third this year. In fact, they don't have a second until it looks like 2028. So I don't know exactly what you do to fill that void.
At this point, you basically have to trade off your roster.
With the effort given by the Rangers right now, and we love to use Vegas as an example of how rooseless they are and everything that they do with their players, and they just care about winning. It's like, when Marc-André Fleury was traded away, I know Marc Stone just stopped playing hockey. He didn't backcheck. He didn't play a 200-foot game.
Pete DeBore got fired because that team quit on him. That team quit on him. You could talk about the goal-tending issues that they had that year, but that team stopped playing for Pete to board. That was a bad year for Pete.
I think it's a different circumstance when they quit on the head coach versus quitting on a general manager. Yes. Because they traded away one of their favorite players. I feel like this is what's happening in New York, where they're upset with the entire front office and the regime from ownership down, as you've reported. I think that's very true. You can't do that as a player. You can't have your on-ice product be hurting this much because you're unhappy with the front office.
Getting fired by MSG is a rite of passage. Those guys are pissed.
Do not go anywhere. Leave this tab open. But if you haven't seen it yet, Charlie Lengren, bloody save of the season, windmill in his game against Carolina. Welcome back. Sdpn YouTube channel. I'm Steve Dangle. Click like, click subscribe to all your friends. 500 likes? There's over a thousand of you in here. 500 likes. What is that? We're about to begin the third period here. Leaps with a 5-2 lead. Over the Buffalo Saber's five-year relief scoring, John Oaker, a Sdp VIP, and Canadian girl. He said, just another 10. Milander. Milander, dumps it. That's already in the corner. Waxet, OEL, who gets a deep. Tavares back after it, out of his brief, though. Dalline gives it up. Milander, to patches, stopped by Reimer. Neylander has it. Tavares, behind the net, Reilly. Heelander all around it. He gives it away. He's going for a change, real, holy, small, casual from Neylander. He has two gears, 10 and zero. Look on the sabers now. Matthews chips it from Marner. Leaps get out of their own zone, but the sabers have it. Awful gamer says, Why only tell your friends? Why not tell your family? That's true. Shopped by Owen Power.
Stopped in front. Might have been blocked by Connor Tim. Leaps get out of their own zone. But again, Buffalo has it. 90 seconds gone in this third period. Shot to 23. Am I underwater again? Trust me, it'll just... Yeah, I didn't do anything. I don't know. Yeah, it happens two or three times a game. I don't know why. It's no one's fault. Except Brad Martian. It's always his fault. Leaps, once again, out of their zone, but again, they don't have the buck. Emojalapino, after gifting a bunch of memberships, is finally an SEP VIP. Let's go. Dylan Cousins can't center it. Leifs third line out there. They chip it out. Is this going to be icing? Robertson tries to get after it. He can't get it. 17:40 to go in the third period, icing against the Leifs. Blue-white flame. Happy holidays, Steve. To you, your family, and the SDPN crew. Love to all of you. Thank you very much.. James David Atkinson, for context of how bad the 9-3 game was against Buffalo Sabers last year, I watched Leifs games at 2:00, 3:00 AM because I'm in the UK, and I'm a madman. I went to bed early that night, and that doesn't happen often.
I mean, yeah. Why would you bother? Puck has dropped. Third line out there. Listen, we've been talking about them, game one of the playoffs. Are you comfortable with it? Let's see how you are on the other end of the Puck. You can score. That's half the battle. You got to stop the other team from scoring. David Kempf out there. My guess is if the first few minutes of this period go well, we're going to see a lot of the fourth line. If it doesn't go well, then we won't. My guess is we won't see a ton of Matthews, who did not skate this morning. Daleen shot That goes wide. Man, he's had the fuck a lot tonight. It's weird to see a guy have such a good game in a game where his team's playing so ass. Reimer in net now for the Sabers. Upl allowed four goals. I really don't know how many of those goals he was supposed to stop. Sabers did not help him very much. Neylander out with it. He's got Patch already with him, two on two. I'm just trying to tweet out the link as I'm going. Reimer deflects that wide.
Patcheready takes the fuck off. Sucker in front. Oh, Leaps, hold it. Oh, McCabe. Stop by Reimer. Great move there. Tuck, dumps it, and he'll go for a change. Leaps with the fuck in their own end. Murray stops it for Benwa, 15:50 to go in the third period. Taveras dumps it in. Sabers chip it out. Leaps have it again. Marner. Reminder, the Leaps play again tomorrow. I'm going to be streaming that game again tomorrow. Right here, same seat, same YouTube channel. Same everything. Except producer. Yes, it'll be producer Drew tomorrow. Sorry, Hayden. Sorry. Nies in there. Conor Clifton driving. Oh, wow. Blocked by Reilly. Nies to Reilly. Excuse me. Goodness gracious. Nies to Robertson. You know, maybe I'm wrong. I said you're going to see a lot of the fourth line, but third line is in your bottom six, too. I think we're going to see a lot of the third line. They're going to try to rest their big guys. But maybe there's too much time left in the third to do that just yet. Robertson tries to leave it for McMahon, doesn't work. O'yell joins the rush, shoots it, puts it into Reimer's chest for a face-off.
14:24 to go in the third period. That was such a casual shot by OEL, and it was still over 80 kilometers an hour. Steve, can you get what Sarras' save percentage from last night was? Was it 69 %? 750. That's better. It's not as funny. John Tavares, Puck has dropped, wins the draw in the Saber zone. Great battle on Owen Power. Neelander tries to get it to patch ready. It doesn't Irk. Leaps get the Puck back, though. Neelander. Tavares, Neelander chips it. Reimer stops it, and we'll get another whistle. 14:06 to go in the third period. Cassie said five goals on 20 shots, 750 save percentage. Oof, my own. Yuck. Ea Sports. It's in the game. It's in the game. It's in the game. It's in the game. It's in the game. That last one was okay. It's in the game. That was the best one. Devaris wins the face-off. Reilly on, deflected, but it goes wide. Tavares and Reimer caught up. Sabers have the fuck. Neylander with it to patches. Leaves it for Neelander. Neelander, coils back, falls down, One hands it. It didn't work. That would have been cool, though. Tate Thompson breaks out of the Saber zone.
Stopped, turned around, patch ready, gets it deep. Matt Gould, NHL blackouts are insane. I'm an 8 hour drive from Denver and Salt Lake, and 13 hours from Vegas, but I'm supposedly in their home markets. Matt Murray, I believe he negated the icing there, played it. Sabre's keep In the leaves zone. We don't like that. Leaves' fourth line out there. This might be ice. Yes, this is icing. This is icing. 13:04 to go in the third period. James David Atkinson, who should I support in the Four Nations? I was like, the country you're from? Oh, you're from the UK? Canada. Canada is part of the Commonwealth. It's the only Commonwealth country in the Four Nation face-off. There you go. Face-off in the Leave zone. Puck has dropped 13:03 to go in the third period. Tana have whips get around. Leaps can't get out of their own zone, though. On. Sabers can't get a shot there. This is just going to be a shot, block, and rag fest, if the leaves have their way. Off the glass and out. High stick from Lawrence, but the sabers touch it next, so it doesn't matter. 12:30 to go in the third period.
Matthews. Oh, dear. Giveaway. Cousins. Hands it off. Oh, that was a great play. Stop by Murray. Calm play by Ekman Larson. Here comes Matthew Nize out of the zone. Gaines center, dumps it. Hard hit on Connor Clifton, I believe. Fisherman's friend. Sadeen Magic 15. Hey, Steve. I have a question I'm hoping you can answer. Why does the NHL have a holiday roster freeze? That's probably something the NHL Players Association negotiated, and it's because who wants to get traded at Christmas? You got to have some time where you can turn it off, turn all your anxieties off. Losing streak, doesn't matter. Christmas. Winning Streak. Good for you, Christmas. Mcmahon dumps it. Robertson after it. I almost said Ryrum because he was going after a bow in Byram. Saber is attacking with three, Leifs defending with three. 11:10 to go in the third. Connor Timmins lifts it out. This is going to be icing 11:03 to go in the third period. Shots 26, 22 for the Lefs. Score, 5-2 for the Lefs. All the world's a stage. Let's go, Matt Murray. Go leaves, go. I agree. Aqua gamer, Sean Shaneley. Speaking of VA Sports, hear about the next trade for the New York Jets caused by his son's saying, Judy's Madden stats being too low.
I feel like I read about that today, but I didn't read much about it because I didn't really have a basis for what was happening. I didn't talk about the buck getting dropped, and it doesn't matter because the leavesiced it again. 10:57 to go in the third period. Cassie, okay, I'm done procrastinating. Good night, guys. See you tomorrow. See you, Cassie. Let's get some Cassie Clans in the chat. Face off in the leaves zone. Puck is dropped. John Tavares beats Tate Thompson in the face off. Leaves getting out. Is this going to be a third straight icing? No. I'm surprised. Tate Thompson. Boy, that's a quiet arena. The dump in is a happy accident. It bounced right to Alex Tuck, who shot it into a rebound. There was almost a scoring chance there. 10:30 to go in the third. Zucker checked off the puck by Tavares. Neylander just yeets the thing out. What happened here? Tavares and Zucker, I guess we're going at it. What's the penalty here? I think it happened behind the play. Looks like Tavares and Zucker both going off, so it'll be, I assume, four on four action. Tavares hit him, and then Tavares, two-no, and then Zucker two-handed Tavares in the ankle.
So what did Tavares do? And we're saying he probably slashed him back. Come on. I'm sure they'll show it at a commercial break. David Owens, does Berubey swap in all three scratches tomorrow for fresh legs? That's a good question. So who are we thinking? Well, I mean, Philippe Myers, probably put him back with Reilly. Then you have Tana McCabe, OEL, Benoît. Or maybe you take Benwa out and you put in Myers. Myers probably gets in. I wouldn't be surprised by that. And then the extras are Duhre and Reeves. I would take out Camp. I don't think you can split up the third line the way they're playing. Okay, he scored tonight, but he missed morning skate this morning. What if tomorrow they don't have Matthews? Get him a rest. Just throwing it out there. James David Atkinson. It's between Sweden and Canada, purely because I'm closer to Sweden, but Commonwealth. What do you think of a delay of game minor for three straight icings? You know what? There's something to it. So okay, here they're showing it. Tavares, clean hit on Zucker. Zucker slashed him in the ankle. Tavares slashed him in the elbow, and they both go.
So why didn't you call the first one? Stupid. Sabers win the face off. Four-on-four action, which I think four-on-four action favors offense, and the Sabers are trailing. They scored a four-on-four goal this game. So even though both guys go, to me, this is advantage savers. Robert Bet, I think Barube is changing lines up to see what he has if he needs them later instead of waiting until the playouts when it's too late. Of course, he's also the new coach. He just got here. So he's trying to figure out what he has. Marner with it in the leave zone. 9:42 to go in the third minute, 20 to go in four on four action. Marner out of the leave zone. He's got David Kampf with him. He almost finds him there. Where's the Puck? Saber's come up with it. Alex Tuck with the Puck. 9:26 to go in the third period. Let's get some likes, people. Get us over 600, and we'll go from there. Here comes Dylan Cousins, one on three. What a move. Driven wide. Reinforcements arrive, though, out of the reach of David Kampf. Paterka, can't handle it. Sabers have it. Why do the leaves net?
Thank you to the mast wonder. Gifting 10 SDPM memberships. You, Beauty. Pterka, past blocked. I believe that's by David Kampf. Nylander tries to feather it to OEL, who for some reason was leading the rush, did not work. Dalleen, shot and stopped by Murray. 8:35 to go in the third period. Ten seconds going four on four action. Neylander with it. One on two. Curls back. Drops it from a cave shot. I didn't see where that went, but it went into the corner after. Neylander pancaped. Here come the Sabers. Five on five action resumes. Samuelson. Oh, Saber score. Owen Power diving with 8:04, remaining in the third, and the Sabers pulled it within two. What happened here? Mccabe and Tanaf both back. The Sabers overwhelmed the leaves in front. Nye's out there, Domi out there. No forward support. Didn't see who the third guy was. No forward support for the D in front of the net. And Owen Power, cheating for offense on account of his team's down three, makes it 5-3. 8:04 to go in the third. Puck is dropped. No, Ref didn't like it. Dauleen. Watch the unsportsmanlike bud. He fired the fuck into the boards.
It's like, they're going to retake the face off. Relax. 8:04 to go in the third. Sabers win it again, and here they are. Matt Murray hands it off for Simone Benoît. That's Power's fifth goal of the season. Niz is out there with Matthews and Marner. Matthews, behind the net for Niz. Marner, in front for Matthews, almost. Benoît. He's behind the Saber's net. Timmins. Matthews on. Blocked by Reimer. It's in the corner. Nies after it. Matthews. He doesn't score. Zucker, I believe, takes the penalty on Matthews, which caused him to not even get a shot off. And now with seven and a half to go, the Leaps head to the power play, and they can ice this thing. Zucker might have prevented a goal there. Robert Bett, Alex Tuck with the Puck, you're a poet, and you don't know it. Now, I do know it. I'm a best-selling author. How dare you? What a dick. By the way, thank you because as of today, I have officially been on the Toronto Star and Globe and Mail bestsellers list, both of them, for 10 consecutive weeks. What makes it even better for me is the book has been climbing.
That's not supposed to happen after 10 weeks. A few things have helped that. It's a staff pick of the month in Indigo, so it's getting good placement in the stores, but it's also all the book signings that we've done, everyone who's come out, and you guys just being the best and supporting this thing that I worked very hard on. So thank you very much. We talked a bit about it on the VIP that we recorded today, but I don't think that VIP comes out for a couple of weeks. Nazem Kadri has been my He's been my pace car. His book came out the same day as mine. He's the guy I'm trying to beat every week. He had me for a few weeks there, but I've been ahead of him for four or five straight weeks. There's nothing against him. I like Nazem Kadri, but he's been my pace car. He's been a leaf. He plays in Canada right now with the Calgary Flames. He's won a Stanley Cup. And I'm thinking if I sell more books than him, I should feel pretty good about myself. Not bad for a guy who still can't do crossovers.
James David Atkinson. I asked Adam on Thursday about an NHL Cup like the NBA with Cup jerseys, center ice logos that are one game every Tuesday or Thursday. So replacing the preseason, keep it to two preseason games. What do you think? It's not a terrible idea. I think the NHL is going to wait to see if this works with the NBA first, and I just feel like their fans don't care. At least that's the impression I've got. Puck is dropped. John Tavares wins a face-off. Zucker for slashing. Leaps have a power play late. Oh, but there might be a shorthanded chance here. Here comes Dylan Cousins. Tavares, stopped by Murray. Marner drops it off. Okay. Shots 27, 25 for the Lefs. Score 5, 3 for the Lefs, but they still got to win this game. Seven minutes to go in the third. A minute 30 to go in this power play. Leaps taking their time. Matthews can't handle the pass. Tavares along the half wall, tries to get it deep. Whoop, Saber's almost misplaced. Play it. Matt Murray stops it long distance, 6:40 to go in the third period. Oh, nice move from Marner. He gets zone entry to Nylander.
Matthews, Marner on. Doesn't make its way on. Matthews fighting for it. Can't get it. Sabers, almost clear. Nylander stops it. To Marner. Download to Matthews. Oh, Matthews is decked in the back by Gilbert. And Matthews has got Listen, Reilly stood up for Matthews earlier in this game. I know it's late. Someone should pulverize Gilbert for that. That's a cross-check right in the ribs. That sucks ass. That's a cross-check. Right in the ribs, and Matthews didn't like it. 6:07 to go in the third period. You friggin' plug. 40 seconds to go in this power play. Domi wins the draw. Timmins shoots, blocked. 30 seconds to go in this power play. Listen, at least when Jamie Ben does it, it's a cross-check from a good player. Here come the Sabers. 12 seconds to go in this leave power play. It's not ending great. Sabers put it on. It goes wide. Sabers fire it back into their own zone. Power play is done. The Sabers have five minutes and 26 seconds to get two goals to tie this up. So Jake McCabe lined up Owen Power, and he didn't get the hit, but I think he's trying to send a message.
Kampf. This is interesting. What are the leaves going for here? This is campf with Robertson and McMahon. I guess Domi was just out there with the power play. Campf. Good job. Gets it into the offensive zone. Mcmahon, But high and wide. Puck into the neutral zone, into the leave zone. They control it 4:45 to go in the third period. Pickleball Pat says, Got book on audible, Steve. Love it. Thank you. You are lovely. Tanev dumps it, nies after it. Matthew's back out there, by the way. No worse for where. So was Marner. Tanev with OEL. Saber's on, blockered away by Murray. Oh, Saber's with it. Matthews. Looking for a route out of his zone. Nies was just standing there. That's not great. Samuelsen handling it in his own zone. Four minutes to go in the third. Watch for Reimer here. Down to. Got to think the sabers could pull him any minute now. Any second now. Any minute now, you might run out of minutes. Saber's gained the zone. Oh, oh, sabers. Oh, in front. We don't like this. No. Power puts it on. Deflected wide. Timmins is after it. Can't get it. Saber's at the point.
It's power. Daleen. Power scores. What a shot from Owen Power. Leaps were up 5-1, dude. 3:26 to go in the third. Let's see what happened here. It's a good shot. It's a good shot. I don't like Murray's movement. I don't like how deep he is in his net. The Leaps might be reviewing this here. Or are the Leaps taking a time out? Are they challenging for offside The Leaps are definitely looking at it. Oh, Toronto is challenging for goalie interference. This This is very risky. The Leaps are very good at offside reviews. Goalie interference, this could go either way. And if you get it wrong, it's a one goal game with three 26 to go, and you're going to be down six on four the whole time. This is an enormous risk. I mean, obviously, if you get it right, you're up two goals. Oh, Oh, boy. Sean Andress Oak. I think you should start giving the Jesse Blake Sports Report a shout out in videos and streams. Grab people. Dalton Fitzpatrick. Hayden, can you please remind me of Dalton's question? Any advice for aspiring writers? We'll do that after the game. No, the Sabers were on side.
I don't know why the broadcast is showing them crossing the blue line. They specifically said they're challenging for goalie interference. There it is. Okay. They're showing that now. Oh, yeah. Okay, so Lafferdi moved Matt Murray's stick. And it looks like they're already wrapping up the review, which is hopefully good news for the... Maybe they're not. I don't know if I love this risk by the least. Murray is way too deep in his net. Oh, here's the call. They got it. There was goalie interference. I tell you what, the Leaps were down... Sorry, the Leaps were up 5-1. After that successful challenge, it's still 5-3. There has been two disallowed goals tonight. I got to tell you, whoever on the Leaps' bench or on their video team made the call to review that. Grande suevos. Now you're up to with 3-26 to go in the third, We're in commercial break. Now you're up two with 326 to go in the third. That's a great position to be in. You could have been up five, four with 3:26 to go and down six on four because the Sabers certainly would have pulled Reimer again. Hayden is sending me a very similar call from the Minnesota-Florida game.
So I guess this was yesterday? And the refs called that goalie interference. Yeah, Babrowski. Yeah, he flops. Yeah, he definitely flops. I'm not going to lie. To me, that on Babrowski is more goalie interference than what the Sabers just did. They're still both pretty soft. What happened to my sport? This isn't the sport I grew up with. This isn't exactly the way it was when I was 12 years old, so I hate it. I turned into Will Arnett when get sick. I just love my voice, and all I want to do is hear myself talk. Should I just start reading Bojack Horsman lines? Leaps win the face off just outside of their own zone. I don't know how much time is left because the score bug is not on the screen. 3, to go in the third period. Leaps, play the buck down the ice. Reimer has it. Leaps, back up two goals. In the Faber's ice it with 3:05 to go in the third period. I'm really wondering how to play this LFR, because if you want to be a dick about it, Matt Murray has allowed five goals tonight. Only three of them counted, but I just want to be a jerk about it.
Sadeen Magic, 15. Damn, I have Owen Power in fantasy. That third point would have been delightful. He has two points. You have Owen Power in fantasy? I have a lot of Face off one by the Sabers. Three minutes to go in the third. Matt Nies does a good job getting it deep into the Sabers zone. Killing precious seconds. 2:45 to go in the third period. Reimer still in the Sabers net. Owen Power, he's been so good. Gives it to Dalleen, who shoots. That one's deflected wide. 2:30 to go in the third. Is either team happy about this game? 218 to go in the third. Leaps get it out of their own zone. Got to think Reimer leaves the net now. There he goes. Marner can't clear it. Between He's going to get his legs, he can't do it again. Tuck on. Where to go? Wide. Two minutes to go. Dalleen shoots. That one goes wide. 155. Dalleen. It's a shooting gallery. 150. Benoît, good stick. Tate Thompson is at the point for Dalline. Baterka loses it. Benwa slaps it. Where does it go? It goes down the ice for icing, but he kills a few seconds off the clock, 1:35 to go in the third period.
Thank you for the poll. Is anyone happy with this game? No one's Happy. Leifs happy. Sabre's happy. I'm happy. Robert Bett, I guess that's why they're behind the bench, and we're just watching the game. You're absolutely right. Leaps winning the face offs 25 to 19, make that 26-19. But they can't get out of their zone. Dahlene keeps it in. Minute 25 to go. Patcheretti He can't get to it. Cousins behind the net, Zucker behind the net. 1:15 to go. Marner picks it off. Patchereddy empty net. Misses. Oh, no. And it He goes from his own side of center. A minute nine to go in the third period. Patch ready is trying to say he gained center. It's close, but he didn't. It's very close, but he didn't. 109 to go in the third. David Owens, Parlay win and subs incoming. Let's go. Bang, bang. Thank you. Hey, click like on your way out, you silly geese. Although who knows? We could be here a while. Matthews, not a great night in the face off circle. He wins that one, though. Benwa, just trying to tie it up, hold on to it. A minute to go in the third.
Leef still up, Two. By the way, Marner does a good job getting it out of the zone. No call on the sabers. I think he just fell over some feet. That's a good question from Alan. We'll get to that. Leaps, get it out. Owen Power with it. 40 seconds to go in the third. It's getting safer. Safer and safer. Power. Good move on Tavares. Here he comes. 30 seconds to go in the third. Tavares can't get it to Nylander. Tanev to Tavares, to Nylander, to the empty net. 600 assists for John Tavares. On that goal, and William Neylander with another empty netter, 19.1 seconds to go in the third. Leifs up three, once again, 6 to 3. Tavares could have scored that. Yeah, William Neylander with the smile. Yeah, he knew. He knew. David Owens gifted 10 SDPN memberships. If you got a membership because of David Owens, say thank you. Tavares is 16th assist of the season, 600th in his career. By the way, the next goal Tavares scores will make him just the fifth player to ever score 200 goals with two different teams. And the Leifs win. Matt Murray picks up his first NHL win in over 600 days.
He beat Florida in March of 2022. Is that what they said? Wow. Paula Bellen. By the way, Liney scored another power play goal. Hilarious. Esther Jay, it took you guys talking about it on the podcast, but the Habs just eclipsed 30 shots. That's hilarious. Sam Greenwood. Welcome to SDP VIP, buddy. Sadeen Magic. Power has a goal and an assist. Yes, I have them. The free agency in this particular league sucks. Luna also pointing out, Montreal has more than 30 shots tonight for once. This is the first time all season. Hilarious. Paul S. I'm not going to blame Matt Murray for this because it's his first NHL game since April 2023. It was actually March. It was even further. But he did off up five against Buffalo. So to say I'm torn is a mild thing. They won. He got it out of the way. He won. He's the third stringer. Leaps have a bunch of back-to-backs. They have a back-to-back every week in December. Good enough. Cool. Alan Frase, are you being over critical and over analyzing Murray because of history? How many were really his fault tonight? One, maybe two? So... Yes, I do think you're correct.
We are over analyzing Matt Murray because he's Matt Murray. That being said, let's say two were his fault. That's a lot. That's a lot for an NHL game, dude. It's a lot. One is a lot. Two is a lot, a lot. Tony Lee, Tavares wants to save the goal for the Islanders tomorrow night. Robert Bet, Murray, not bad for not playing in the NHL for almost two years. I mean, the Leaps have had worst goal-tending performances this season, and they lost. Oh, Dalton Fitzpatrick, I believe it was. Any questions for aspiring writers? Yeah. Don't. No, I'm kidding. Have a game plan and never start a book at the beginning. If you're writing a novel, that's maybe different. But for me, I wrote a book about myself, and I also wrote a book that was a bunch of hockey rants. The hockey rants one is just start writing. Start writing the first thing that comes to mind. There were a few rants I had that I knew were going to be pillars of the book, the Goatsky chapter, the goalie Mount Rushmore chapter. I knew we were going to be pillars. And then it was about trying to figure out what to surround them with.
Try to write a few quick ones. It's funny. It's a little like sports. Try to get a couple of quick ones a couple of smaller chapters, get your confidence, right? Yeah, I'm a good writer. I can do this. Don't start with a 7,000 or 8,000-word chapter. I'm pretty sure that book has a 10,000-word chapter, a a thousand and a 7,000. That's a lot of words. Leifs lament is, you're not going to believe this, long. In fact, one of the things I was asked in editing is, why did you only talk about four Lefs games? And I'm like, because it's already the longest chapter in the book. Just write, write and write and write and write. And don't get discouraged when the words don't come, because as Elliot Freeman often likes to say, You plan, God laughs. And writer's block is like that. I can't tell you how many times I was lying in bed one or two in the morning, and I'm like, I have to write something down right now. How many times I'm like, All right, I have three hours to myself. No kids, no no one. I'm just going to write. I sat there and no No words came out.
None. You can allot time to yourself to be creative, and you just go, Okay, brain, come on, and brain. And your brain doesn't brain. So don't get discouraged when the words don't come to you immediately. Dalton says, Thanks for the advice, man. Been a fan since day one. Thank you, Dalton. And Kha-Chou, says, Steve, what are you drinking? This was a tea, a lemon ginger tea with honey and a lozange dissolved into it. And this is water. Straight vodka. It's water. Yeah, annoying little scratchy throat. So tomorrow, I'm going to be talking very softly so that I can heal up for tomorrow night's stream. Oh, I have an LFR to do tonight. Well, I'll see you tomorrow when I have no voice then. Thank you to producer Hayden for everything tonight. Thank you for watching. Appreciate that. If you clicked like, thank you. If you sent a super chat, thank you. If you became a new member or you gifted memberships, thank you. You're the best. Let's wrap this up on account of We're right back at it again tomorrow, and I got to LFR tonight, and I got to LFR tomorrow night. You will not miss me.
