And I've only done that with a couple other games that she's really liked, and Jedi survivor was one of them. We got through the whole thing. It's fantastic. Now, Pittsburgh swept the season series with Montreal last year. We're going back to hockey for a second here. 3-0. And during those games, they outscored the Canadians 10-6. Crosby has 64 career points versus Montreal in 49 games. Among Crosby's 23 career goals versus Montreal. Five of them have been game winners. So Sydney Crosby is due to have a big night tonight. And let's not forget, Cydney Crosby is going for 1,600 points. He is eight goals away from 600 goals. So there's a lot of big moments that Cydney Crosby is going to have in the next few weeks, which is going to be very cool. He deserves all of them.

And I think it's cool that if he does get his 1,600 points tonight, it's against his childhood favorite team. It's against one of those teams that if Pittsburgh were to move on from Crosby or if Crosby were to move on from Pittsburgh, you could see him in Montreal, couldn't you? I could see him in Montreal. But I got to tell you, watching the Penguins on Saturday night, it wasn't crazy bad. It just it seemed like a game where they let it slip away. And they're the Daily Fantasy League. So I have to go in there and set my lines daily. But you would not believe, I got Maclin Salabrini, Connor Bedard, and MatVe Michkoff all in one team. And I'm going to try to convince these guys to do a keeper league.

Because, going to get all the dubs after a few years. All right, everybody. First question up there on the chat, how are we feeling about the Amazon Prime score bug? And if you don't know what a score bug is, you're not alone. I didn't know what a score bug was until two years ago. I'm like, what is a score bug? And somebody had to explain it to me. I'm like, oh, you mean the spot with all the stats on it? Why do they call that a score bug? I don't know. I don't know. Are any pens or habs on your fantasy team, Adam? Believe it or not, I don't think so. And it's not because I didn't want Crosby. Somebody took him right before I was going to get him. So I went with Keo Makar. And then in the other I tried to get Malkin in the third or fourth round, and he was already gone. So there you are. I did not. In Montreal, there was a bunch of Montreal fans in both of my pools. And so guys like Koffild, Slivkowski, and Suzuki are gone. Although, Montembeau, low-key, could be a pretty sick goal tender pickup.

Travis Dermot is on the team, and believe it or not, he's playing top four defensive minutes for the Edmondson Oilers right now. They're 0 and 3, and it's not Travis Dermot's fault. I know Rust just got back, and I just thought Bunting Crosby made so much sense, and maybe he's working really well with Gino. And Gino and Michael Bunting on the same line is just hilarious for refs. But I do have to say, I thought that Bunting was a lock for Crosby. Just seems like the a guy who plays with big name players and is good at it. Offside here. By the way, if anybody's checking, just to align our streams here, you could just refresh your Amazon page. But essentially, I'm at 16:50. If you're looking to align streams, that's where I'm at. And we are working on a score bug for us, too. But it's very, very difficult and tricky to do, as Hayden can attest to. So that's what we're going to do. Dubis ruining Crosby's final So I don't think that that's fair. As much as I give Kyle a bit of a hard time for some of the moves he made here in Toronto, largely, his moves were extremely positive. Oh, man. Carl, some nice little breakout pass there. I think Kyle was tasked with an impossible job, and until ownership lets him rebuild the team, there's a reason he signed for seven years, right?

You try to win in the first two or three years, and then you go, Okay, we can't. So either Crosby is retiring, and Gino is retiring, and Chris Littang is retiring, or they're moving on. And then we rebuild the team, and we get a bazillion draft picks and get the next Crosby, right? I don't know. It's a nightmare. You know who wrecked Crosby's last few years? And it's not anything personal because I have met them both, and they're both nice guys, is Ron Hexdall and Brian Burke. That is what wrecked Crosby's final years. This team should be far further ahead than they are. I'm just throwing that out there. Thoughts on Montebow. Man, they're talking about this guy like he might be the starter for Team Canada. My thoughts are I'm excited to watch him play more. This guy played. I mean, he played awesome against Toronto in the opening game, and I haven't caught a Canadian game since then. That's why we're doing the streams. We all get to watch different teams. It's not just leaf games now. We're doing everything. And I think it's great to zoom around the NHL and see who's doing what and where.

And I think, specifically, this has got to be a big game for the Penguins, because I feel like they just want to get these Crosby and Malkin things done and move on with their season and get a couple of wins in here because it was an ugly start. That New York game was brutal. Toronto game was okay. Detroit game was good. Pittsburgh is a team that's going to challenge for the playoffs. They got to beat teams like Montreal. And Montreal is not an easy out. Yeah, for anybody wondering why we can't run game footage, we can't. Hi. Because we're Sdpn. And as much as we're thrilled for the current success, we don't have billions of dollars yet to buy the hockey rates. As soon as we do, I guarantee you, we're going to be all over it. All over it. That's how much hockey rights So, yeah. And here's the thing about the billion dollars is you need to have the billion dollars first. You can't just walk up and be like, oh, I'll get it eventually or I'll take out a loan. You got to have that money. And then they'll be like, okay, we'll consider you. So maybe one day, Sdpn gets to that level. I would like to. I would like to. But we got a lot of work to do. Get that company to billions of things, get the streams available, no regional blackouts. Sdpn would be Anti-regional blackout, we wouldn't allow it. How's that? There you go. That's why you need to go with us, okay? If we had the rights, we wouldn't do that to you. That's all I'm saying. I'm sure they're going to win the Cup. 0-3, their goal differential is negative 12. They've scored three goals all year in three games. You're going to win. That's like the Leaps' playoff's bad. You've scored three goals in three games. That's the Toronto Maple Leaps. And somehow they'd have won in one of those games, and they've had 15 allowed. That's wonky. And we were talking about it on the show today, and I asked Steve and Jesse about it, and they're not worried. The one team that we are looking at that might need to make a big change real quick is Colorado because Georgiev is turning into Fouriev. He's letting in a lot of goals, and they are a negative six on their goal differential already, and it's not as goofy as the Oilers, but you know what Stuart Skinner can be when he's great. And you know the Edmondton Oilers need to make a trade on defense, and they'll probably be fine.

Because no offense to Travis Dermot, but him and Darnell Nerset, D3 and D4 is not ideal. What do you got a goal? We got a goal, and it's Laura Zeller, baby. Wow, big goal, too. Here's Carlson in deep with a shot on Montebo, squared up and got it. You can imagine a guy like Kevin Hayes finding his game a little bit. He's had a really hard couple of years. You can look at a guy like... I think Michael Bunting is great, so he doesn't need to find anything. But I look at Anthony Bouvillier as well and go, That guy has been on four teams in five years. I bet he probably doesn't want to move anymore. It would be nice for him not to have to move. I wonder if he's feeling like, All right, I better make my mark here and make sure it happens here.

Ever since that move to Vancouver, it's just not gone well for the guy, and I feel for him. Kind of sucks, right? I'm just pulling the stat sheet up, Hayden put together as well. Centering pass. So what's going to be interesting with Montreal is, oh, boy, is situations like this where they get hemmed in their own zone. You've got Gouly and Matheson out there, and they're going to be a team that makes a ton of mistakes. But you do have Like Savard, Matheson, those guys really need to bring the young guys along, Gouly and Lane Hudson, specifically. And there are going to be some tire fire moments. And I'm interested to see... They got Arbër Jackai in the lineup. I'm interested to see how often he takes the ice. I haven't seen a lot of the Noel Achari Kevin Hayes line, and I would imagine that that's who he's going to go out against, but Achari is out there right now. And there's Shaqai. Yeah, okay. Well, there you go. Baren around. Picked off. Oh, we got a potential scoring opportunity here. Fourth line for the Penguins. Yeah, it's fun to watch teams outside of your home city.

It's just fun to watch hockey, generally, but it's nice to watch a team that you're like, I don't really know how they've been performing. Now, the Leaps have happened to play both of these teams, so we have an idea of so far. But the great thing about the early season 10 games in, is you don't really know. Look at what Everton did after game 15 last year. It was November, and they started winning all the way to game seven. So Lane Hudson, deke it out, Bradley K'Chuck this weekend, and now making some offensive zone. No, no. Pittsburgh got that pretty quickly. Dump & Chase. Let's check in with the chat here. I know Broberg didn't play a ton in the regular season, but when he was playing in the playoffs, because I did a lot of Edmondson-Oilers games last year on the way to that run, I did the entire Vancouver series, and I did their next series, and then Steve took over in the finals. And I don't know, man. I liked Broberg a lot. I think he would have been really valuable for them this year. Mki Sports, Happy Canadian Thanksgiving, Adam. What did you eat for Thanksgiving? I love me some turkey and ham. Well, I'll tell you this. My wife is a bit of a chef, and a bit of a baker. Can you tell by the excess weight I've put on? She's actually really good. She does this thing where it's called dry brining a turkey. She has this mixture of salt and some other things, and it sits in the fridge for two days.

It's supposed to... The salt sucks the moisture out of the turkey, and then it melts because it's salt back into the turkey, along with all the flavors you put on top of it. So you dry-brine it for two days, and then she puts butter under the skin, and then it cooks. It's the most insane turkey I've ever had. It's so good. Then, yeah, And then so that's the turkey I had. So you asked me about my Canadian Thanksgiving, that's what I ate. Carbo load, dude. Yeah, well, that's my life. It was so good. I have to tell you, it was so, so, so, so good. Dan, baseball, Ceece. Yeah, I know. Listen, we laugh about Ceece, but Ceece was playing a game seven in the finals last night, and none of us Saltylea fans were, or last night, last season. So I think we got to call a spade a spade. He made Stanley Cup finals. We didn't. But listen, their depth was already thin. They lost Deyarne to Vancouver, didn't they? Yeah. They lost Deyarne to Vancouver. Then they lost Broberg, and then they lost Cee. And then their big replacement for that was Travis Dermot on a PTO and then a $750,000 contract, which, not that against Travis, but that's just not enough, right?

Aaron is referring to the fact that NHL teams have much better analytics than what's available to us publicly on Twitter, because guess what? Analytics are hard and it's worth money to get good ones. I've seen, I had a glimpse of what teams have, and it's so beyond complicated and amazing. The depth of knowledge they have on any one of these guys is crazy. I'd like to see the advanced analytics on CC as well, because I still don't get it. I didn't get it in Toronto. I don't get it. But in San Jose, it's not going to matter. Look at all these people thanking people for gifted subs. Sportsnet only has the French language broadcast. I mean, you're into French on Duolingo, but I don't think I can follow that fast to pace.

That's the first Montreal shot of the game. Got to give Pittsburgh credit here. They don't look like a team that... Well, they don't look like the same team that played the Rangers. We'll put it that way. Some big hits. Another big hit. You could hear the Bell Center crowd just react, and they are one of the best crowds in the sport.

Such a fun... I remember for a bachelor party, my bachelor party, for my first wedding, we went to Montreal, saw a game, and it was Montreal versus Detroit. And Montreal were really bad, but they beat Detroit 10 to 2. Was pretty sick. It was pretty sick. Patrick, Adam, do you think life is just a little better with a three-piece suit? Patrick, I know what you're referring to, and no, and I haven't worn a three-piece suit in years. No. Bigfoot, Pittsburgh is not making the playoffs this year. Yeah, I didn't think they make the playoffs last year either. I'm not sure how much better they really are, but it's all going to depend on some of these guys that they brought... Like I was mentioning it earlier, Bavillier, Russ has got to be healthy. Bunting has got to have a 65, 70 point season. That's what you need. You need some crazy stuff. I don't hate their defense. It's okay. But I'll say this, if it was over the next five years, what team would I be leaning into? It is absolutely the Montreal Canadiens and absolutely not the Pittsburgh Penguins. But it's hockey, so you never know.

Brian Shay, just looking this guy He's played 31 games. He has one goal, he has zero assists, and he is a plus one. And six penalty minutes. This is the most average boring stat line I've ever read. But maybe that's a good thing. Maybe he's just a boring stay-at-home defenseman. I don't know much about him. Did you guys see the LA-Ottawa game today? Yes, I saw the clips. We were recording the SDP during, and I got to tell you, wow, that was great. I couldn't believe that Ottawa has another... It sucks. Ottawa has another goal tender down, like I feel for you, if you're an Ottawa Senator's fan watching this right now. That sucks. That really sucks. Lena Solmark is out, don't know how long. Anton Forrestberg is out, don't know how long. So it's down to, we're three games in Mad Sogard, which is He's a good goalie, really good, but not ideal at the event in Chela level when you're trying to make play offs. Ottawa or Montreal in four years. I'm going to go Montreal. I'm going to go Montreal. I think I'm going to go Montreal. But I think there's more pain in the immediate future for the Montreal Canadians than there is for the Ottawa senators.

Does that make sense? I think I look at Montreal's, I look at a cool coffee field and I go, That guy could score 50 one day, right? Slabkowski, if he becomes what they think he is, imagine an 85 point winger who just trucks guys. I don't know. It's pretty sweet. I mean, listen, the centers already have that in Bradley Kachuk. But what if he was Montreal, Bradley Kachuk? I don't know. I just think Ottawa's window to win is sooner than Montreal's. And I think Montreal's ceiling if they continue drafting this way. And Kent Hughes has done a great job with his staff on doing some really good trades. Oh, here we go. Nice shot. That was a good little play. That first line, man, Suzuki, Slivkowski, Caulfield. Great play from behind the net there by Caulfield. Just throws it up to Suzuki. And I don't think Suzuki got all of it, but that was a nice zone entry. Deep. Oh, it was Slivkowski that put it out, and then Caulfield over to Suzuki. They just seem to know where each other is. It's going to be a great... It's one of those Montreal things that the entire city has already fallen in love with these guys, and you could see why, right?

They're going to be Kings. Yeah, it's going to be crazy. Nick Suzuki is just staying on the screen in 33 goals last year. He's breaking that this year for sure. Ottawa, the two-time Stanley Cup champions in August. Well, I felt for Montreal this year because I felt like that Montreal fans were the Stanley Cup winners of August because there was a lot of them going, Well, we got Line A now. We're going to the playoffs. And as much as I respect what Montreal is doing, I think even with Line A here, that's a lot to ask. I think they've got a little bit more growing to do and a few more signings, signings/trades. But when they do make it, they're going to be a menace. Is there a stiff thing? What am I missing? Stiffness? Do you miss non-sponsored arena names? I mean, I don't know if I'm old enough to remember too many of them. It was Maple leaf Gardens, and there's Madison Square Gardens or whatever. Raquel almost had one there. This second line is interesting. Raquel, Bunting, Malkin. I think this If Crosby was on it, it would be the best line they have.

I think what you need on these teams, because everybody on Pittsburgh has bought a Crosby. Every Pittsburgh fan, if you're a Pens fan, you can't at this point say that you don't own a Crosby Jersey. If you're a Pens fan, you own a Crosby Jersey, you probably own a Malkin, you probably own a little Tang, probably a Marc-Andre Fleury as well. Pittsburgh needs a new star to sell some jerseys for. You know what I mean? They need a young guy. Like, is Rucker McGordy the guy? And in Montreal, you've got a bunch of studs that you can just... It's just the stars in Pittsburgh have been this all off the post. The stars in Pittsburgh have been the stars for so long. It's like, I don't know, Eric Carlson, a lot of Eric Carlson jerseys flying off the shelf. I don't know. What is the worst jersey in the League? I've said this for years. I think it's the Dallas Glow in the Dark One. I just think there's zero effort.

Let's have a look at this play first, and then I want to talk about Tristan Jari. So there's that Montreal first line out there again. Nice goal. Slevkowski right in front of him, right in front of Tristan Jari. I don't know if... I didn't see if Jari... Does Jari get a good look at this? No. He He's not even in position for it, and I don't even know if that's his fault. Yeah, he's just not there. He's not squared up. So Tristan Jari is so interesting because... Oh, we got a high-sticking call right off the bat there.

That sucks. You could just tell when players are like, damn it, that's Yoel or Mia, by the way, going to the box. Okay, we got to talk Tristan Jari. So Tristan Jari is interesting because Tristan Jari was signed to an extension as soon as Dubas got there. We all remember five year is about 25 and a half or $26 million. He makes like, what is it, 5,125 per year. Penguins fans in the chat, you know. So then last year, there is a, I believe it's a game against the Islanders where Jari just falls apart. Essentially, the last 13 games of the year after that, he's not playing. And he really loses the starter position to Alex Nadelkowitch, who was resigned this offseason. But Nadelkowitch is dealing with injuries, and nobody wants Jarry's contract. And this kid, Joel Blunkist, they put him in against the Toronto Maple Leaves on a Saturday night because they trust him more in Toronto on a Saturday night than Tristan Jarry. And so they've put Jari in against a Montreal team that is not expected to do much in the standings. The vibes are going to be off the chart in Montreal, but no one's expecting this team to go to the playoffs.

If they do, the vibes would be, I mean, otherworldly. But you know what I'm saying, right? So the Tristan Jari question in Pittsburgh is going to be something that will be very interesting the first few months of the year because ostensibly, the organization has just said, We don't trust them. They haven't said it out loud. But if they had a chance to be playing anybody else right now, who do you think they'd be putting in that? Anybody else? So it'll be interesting to see if he can regain that. Hot take. The Jari signing is worse than Graves. Is it worse than... I didn't like the grave signing either. I didn't like it at all, mostly because I don't see him as a fit in Pittsburgh, but I don't think he's a bad player. Oh, great steal by Newhook there. That was beautiful. We got 15 seconds left, guys. We'll see if this third line that put one in can do it for Pittsburgh with five seconds to go. Get a shot on the net. Shoot. You better shoot. You didn't shoot. Wow. That is a Kyle Dubas team if I've ever seen one, man. Yeah, Jari was off in La La Land, Cassie.

You're absolutely right. Man, That was wild. Wild. Yeah. So can I just say this, Pens fans? I don't know if this is just you guys or just us. I will tell you that as a fan of a Kyle Dubas-led team for half a decade, that when you need a goal or you want to score a goal and you got offensive zone pressure, and it's the last 15, 20 seconds of the period, just like we saw there, the chances of any of your players ever shooting is slim to none. The expected goals will be through the roof. The courses/possession numbers will be through the roof. But the goals No, they just sit there. It drives me flippin' crazy. It drives me flippin' crazy. Adam, thoughts on the gouli contract. I don't know how you can lose on that. Let me just look it up since we're on it. Here we go. Montreal, to me, has done a really great job with these young guys and been like, You're going to be great. Gouly. Oh, my God. 5.5 million? I forgot about this contract. So that's insane because Here's the deal. This is what you need to keep in mind, okay?

With Caden Gouly or anybody of his ilk, what is a $5.5 million defenseman in today's NHL? And by the way, his contract doesn't kick in until next year. What's a $5.5 million contract in the NHL. Who makes that? And I'll just pick a random team and see if we got one. Let's go to Seattle. Seattle's got players making $5.5 million. I know that. Okay, so here's one. Adam Larson makes $4 million this year, is getting a raise to $5.25 next year. Jamie Alexiak makes $4.6 million. Now, understandably, these are UFA years versus RFA years. But what are the chances that Caden Gouly underperforms a contract like that? I would argue very slim. If you look at where the salary cap is going over the next 2-3 years, we're going to be at $100 million, probably by 2028, if not sooner. That's because, A, the coyotes are gone, and no disrespect to their fans, but that team was a real drag on HRR, which is hockey-related revenue. If you have a team in Utah that just breaks even. The NHL is going to make $100 million more dollars next year. It matters that much. I look at the goalie contract and I go, Okay, so that guy is going to 5% of your cap or 5.5% of your cap in a few years?

Who cares? That's great. If he works out to be a top-line defenseman, which is what he's playing right now with Mike Mathieson, then you've got the steal of the century. If he is at best, your fourth best defenseman, that's still a steal. That's still a steal. It's a crazy contract. So the only other defenseman in the NHL, according to producer Hayden, who looked this up, that is making exactly 5.5 is Brett Pesce. Now, Brett Pesce signed that with UFA years in mind, but all the same. Imagine, let's say, Caden Gouly is just Brett Pesce minus five years. Do you care? It's a great deal. It's a great deal. I love it. I think they're doing a great job. Cassie says, If Blum and Nedalkovich play well, I think Jari goes elsewhere. You know what's interesting about Jari, and I didn't really finish my thought on this one, is you know who really needs a goalie? The Colorado Avalanche. And they wouldn't... Like, Billy Hussle was on waivers. They don't have the money to go and sign to get a guy like that. But let's say, Pittsburgh goes, Okay, we will retain a million dollars a year.

So So Jari goes from five point whatever to four point whatever. And he's got three and a half more years. So you probably get him for next to nothing, right? And the max he's going to cost you is four. It's bad if he sucks, but could he be worse than Georgiev? I don't know. Drew might hate this. Drew might hate this. Adam, what does this Leaps' roster look like if Dubas was still the GM? I don't think it would be... Well, first off, Keef would still be Coach. That is a guarantee. I don't think that they would have signed Kling last year. I don't know that they would have signed Domi or Bertuzzi. They probably would have gone after Tanev. I would imagine that Dubis would like a guy like OEL as well, so I could see that. But it seemed like Kyle never really never valued the defense thing in the same way that perhaps he should have. You see the difference that Chris Tanev brings to the leaves. It's insane. His breakout passes are crazy, and it's not flashy. It's just super simple. And then OEL, what he does and shooting from the point...

If you're a Montreal fan, you're a Pittsburgh fan, right? That's the majority of what we have on our chat right now. Pittsburgh, Penguins. You guys have had guys that can shoot from the point. Montreal, Canadian fans. You guys have had guys that can shoot from the point. Toronto does not have that until OEL shows up. And I think Tanef can shoot, too. But Whenever the fuck goes to Morgan Reilly, there's no reason for any penalty killer to go and cover him. Why? All you're trying to do is intercept his pass to Matthews on one side and Marner on the other. Because Matthews will be playing the high hash marks, and then And Marner will be high boards as well on the other side. That's it. But if OEL is there and he's able to shoot, well, now you got something, right? So it's a big difference. Hey, quick question, Hayden. Are we running any clips, my friend? Now, let's talk a little bit about if there are always going to be areas of of concern, and a major area of concern last year with special teams, both sides of it.

I'll start with the power play, guys. And Jessie, I want to go to you on this one. We have the same lineup on power play one as we've had for three, four years. Not really a lot of personnel change.

Three, four assistant coaches managing that power play.

What did you see in that unit?

Split it up. We You've done this a million times. All of these good teams in the NHL are going to a new thing where they don't just load up the one power play. Unless you're Tampa, where you can just be Kuturov power play. Or Colorado. Or Colorado, where you don't really have the horses to do two units. I think it's a little different. Colorado, you can just throw out Kuturov out there. You know he's going to score on the power play. Either he's going to get an assist or he's going to get a goal. Toronto doesn't work like that. They struggle with loading up. So The best thing to do is to just try something different, and they refuse to do it time and time again. We see other teams who, if the second unit comes out and they're also dangerous because they have somebody on there, why not give somebody in this top unit their own second unit.

The second unit isn't the second power play unit. It's the don't screw up the line change unit. The first unit gets off the ice. Make sure you don't screw that up. All right, what do we got? Thirty-five seconds? Okay. We're not going to be able to do anything. When we're getting off the ice, we just need to make sure we don't screw that up to bring out the defensive guys. Okay, great. You're not dangerous.

You're not a threat. I understand the philosophy of you have everybody out there, so then when the second unit comes on, you're not handcuffed and you have to throw out your fourth line because everybody's out and those are the only guys you have left. You bring the big guns back on the bench. They get a little bit of rest. You can do whatever line combination you want coming back out. Justin Borne talked a little about that when he talked about the William Neylander at Center thing. He wrote an article on that. I don't know if we're getting that if you have there, but I'd like to just talk two seconds about that after. Take it, take it, go. But the power play thing, you can sacrifice your line change after the power play, whether you get the goal or not, because it'll generate goals. You're sacrificing the opportunity to have more bodies available, the big guns available, in the hopes that it generates more goals in the meantime. Isn't it better if you don't have access to Austin and Mitch because they scored?

Why not just mix things up and throw more people out there, and then hopefully they get a goal, and then you sacrifice the line changes that are going to follow, but then you have a goal on the board, which is the point of the game is to score more than the other team. What if you have the depth to trust the people that are coming out after the power play as well? You load up that top unit, and I'm looking at Daily Face Off right now, and so they have the updated lines from last night. One thing that I think I'm struggling with something because Tavares is good down low, but is he good down low in front of the net? I think so. A lot of tip-in goals and that thing. So I don't think you take him off that. William Nielander could finish. Austin Matthews is the best finisher in the league at the moment. Mitch Marder is one of the best passers the Leaps have ever had. I look at, and I mentioned this last year with Klingberg, who was not the guy. I look at Morgan Reilly, who is a points phenomenon.

I'm not taking away from Morgan's game. But one thing the least do not have on the first power play unit, if you're going to make a switch, to me, it's Morgan Reilly, because how many times have we seen Oliver Ackman-Larson already rip it? I like that player, man. For one of the first two games of the year, and I've been on this guy because I loved him in Florida, too. I didn't love the Vancouver thing, but I think that was more contract and the team sucked. I think he would have told you that. Oliver Ackman-Larson, to me, makes a lot of sense on the first power play. If you're going Give it a look. Exactly. If you must keep all these guys together, and you don't have to. I thought Domi and Matthews were amazing together last year. I don't know why they haven't gone back to it yet, even in preseason.

You mean five on five?

They were great five on five. Try them on power play together. But all of Regman-Larson seems like the easiest, let's try that first, guy. Because he has run top power play units for bad teams. Imagine what he could do for a good team.

I guess I just don't We did talk about this a couple of shows ago. I guess if you put Domi first-line, right wing, I just don't know what you do with the second-line then. So are you... Mitch isn't playing the left. He's never done that with the Lefs. Nylander has done it a bit. Do you do Nylander in the middle, Tavares on the left, and Nye stays with Matthews? Does Nye.

I don't see why if you can have Matthews win the face-off, I know you want to set Matthews up for one time or off the face-off, so that might play into this. Are you talking about the power play or five? Power play. Power play. I'm I'm not going to talk about power play. That's why I'm saying, put Oliver Ekman-Larson in for Morgan Reilly on the first power play unit.

Try that first. If you got to make one change, one, that's the one.

Then I look at, if you want to make another change, a guy I would sincerely look at is Max Domi. I think he and Matthews have something. Can you convince Max to get in front of the net and get nasty, pull Tavares onto the second power play unit, and then you still got Marner Matthews' knee lander on one unit.

Or even, here's how low the bar is, start the second unit.

Well, and so there were people getting upset about the fact that the Leaps did play the second unit a lot more than they have in the past.

They were getting upset about that?

Yeah. Did you see the first unit? If you look at the aggregate of what the Leaps power play unit has done over the last few years, over the course of a season, there's no doubt that they're one of the best power play units in the league. However, let's look at it from mid-February to the of whatever game they end in the playoff. It's annual gaslighting.

The power plate gaslights us every year. Oh, maybe this is the...

And they die. Well, because they also don't make any adjustments.

The trade deadline happens and they lose all their powers.

It's because it's something that's highly defensible. You can figure out what they're going to do. I think power plays, especially with the Lefs, have been far too much Much the same. Maybe they didn't feel like they had the horses on the second unit. I think they do now. I think there should be some fluidity with this. I agree. Remember we talked to Keith Acton in the spring when we were at the... We were at Boston Pizza, Stoville? Yes. And Keith was former Assistant Captain with the Leaps, and he said, You need to know about 20 games out from the playouts, what your lineup is going to be. And I get that.

That's such a good number that he threw out.

It's a quarter of the season.

But that's when they die.

Right. That's when they disappear. So I think Now, let's shake it up a little bit and see what happens. Did anybody-We're going to have to have several options. Did anybody predict last year that we were going to see Bertuzzi, Domi, Matthews? No. And yet, they were the top line going into the playoffs, and they were spectacular. And so why can't we try these things out? And I think they will. There's how many games? So many games. There's 82 of them. There's 82 of them. You got plenty of time to experiment. I also want to look at a guy like Matthew Nies, and it's going to come down to him earning it. But you saw what he did to Dougie Hamilton last night.

What a barbarian.

Does he not fit somewhere on the first unit as a big, scary body in front of the net? Or a guy digging in the corner? Just try it.

Just try it. Like, oh, you have 35 points last year. I still remember when people looked at me sideways, I'm like, Why don't I try Hyman on the least power play? There was a time where that was a dumb idea. Yes. There literally was a time where there was barely a justifiable plan.

Yes.

And then, Oh, he's starting to score. Okay, he's doing all right. And now he's one of the best goal scores in the league.

That first period felt a lot like Pittsburgh was the best team for most of it, and Montreal still was able to get a goal because Tristan Jari is Pittsburgh's goalie, and he's not having a great time right now. Maybe not forever, but he's the goalie right now, and they're not enjoying that. So we'll see where this goes. If Montreal is able to come in here and wreck shop, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a goalie change in the second. That's how not high they are on Jari at the moment. I like to the fact that these are two teams that actually have something to prove early on in the season. Listen, if either these teams fail early, they're going to fail the whole way. Edmonton and Colorado and Nashville, to a smaller extent, are having the worst start to the season in the NHL currently.

Three, four games in. But you know they'll recover. If Montreal or if Pittsburgh don't have a good start, pretty sure they're not going to recover. Like, chances are they won't. Then we added a third episode a week because we only used to do two, in order to add more pop culture to the show. Then we couldn't because there was so much going on in the NHL. We're like, Let's add a fourth. Let's make it VIP. It's a fun hangout. It's a fun episode. Oh, Good save. I still miss the purulator truck, the old SDPN mascot. We used to do the show in this backup studio at Bell Media, and no disrespect to Bell Media, but they hadn't put a dime into this studio for 15 years. Just trash, terrible studio. It just so happened that whenever we recorded, around that time of day, if we actually got the studio working, that's the thing we never talked about, was how bad it was. It was so painful to get that thing working properly. But when we did, we would be video recording in this purulator truck every time without fail, about an hour into the show, would show up and start dropping packages off. It became like... People were tagging it in the comments like, Oh, a pure liter truck arrives at 1 hour, 36 minutes. It's just crazy.

That was five years ago. People are making me sound like I'm an old man in the chat. It was five years ago, guys. It wasn't that long ago. Although five years is half a decade, and Everly was a baby. Hockey Night in Canada in the '70s and '80s was not done in a studio. Coach's Corner originally was not done in a studio. It was done at the rink. They used to have the broadcast crew, the hosts, whatever. They would do it at the old Forum in Montreal. They'd do it at Maple Leap Gardens. They'd do it... A lot of that's Eric Tulsky and other people. While that might be true, who hired Eric Tulsky? Sometimes the best leaders are the ones that hire the best people, the smartest people. They surround themselves with the smartest people. They don't have to be the smartest person. They just have to manage and surround themselves with. And you look at the system they put together in Carolina, I think Columbus is going to look a lot like that in five years. I think they need to figure out if Elvis Merzlican is a mirage or if he's real.

Honestly, if Columbus field gets nothing out of this year other than the young guys take a step forward and you know what you have with Merzlican or what you don't have, half the battle. I think they need a goalie. I don't think Merzlican is for real. It's my opinion. Could be wrong. I think that he and Corposala, when they had their years, were propped up by great defensive teams that Torterelle used to put together. I think they need a goalie, and I think they need some scoring up front, obviously. I think they need the young guys to take a step forward. But you figure out your goal-tending situation, young guys take a step forward, Columbus will be fine. It's going to be another three years. Nobody ever with a double-digit player on the roster has ever hosted Stanley Cup. Then it happened with Jack Eichel in Vegas when they did it. Then this past season, we saw the first team ever with a double-digit goal tender, host the Stanley Cup. You think about how important Brovrowski was to that entire playoff run and how it didn't matter that over the last few years, he's lost his job and then got it back and then lost it and then got it back a few different times. When the push came to shove during the playoff, it was the most important thing to have Brovrowski, and they still managed to build a team around him. It wasn't like he hamstrung their salary cap and they couldn't do anything else. They still built a Stanley Cup winning team.

Also, I mean, Kutra Krav and Vasilevski winning back-to-back cups 9.5 each.

Yeah, but if you're putting a bar on the actual double digit number, you got to cut it off somewhere. Yes, I agree. If you just keep scaling back the number, then you just get to any number. That's why I put the bar.

Agreed. I think, obviously, the Rangers are about to go through a mega shift. What I love about this is this is a confluence of events that work so much in Igor's favor. You're talking about UFA, you're talking about crazy numbers, you're talking about double conference final appearances in the last three years, but also you're talking about, and Jesse mentioned this in the season preview, this is a last dance team. After this year, you're going to have a lot of change in New York.

They're going to be fine. They're going to be fine. Going forward, but they do have to The one thing that can be the sure thing that you can absolutely build around, you've got some great young RFAs, and I get that.

Nobody is on Igor's level. If you could solidify that position, Everything else can fall into place afterwards.

He has a lot of leverage here. I mean, Jesse, you have them winning the Metro?

The follow-up to Kevin Weekes' report that he turned down the eight years by 11 million was from Cam Robinson, who said that Igor wanted less years, and that might have the sticking point on the contract, not the $11 million in that he wanted more. It might be that he wants 11 by five. Because he's smart. And the rangers want him for the eight years that he wants 11 by five.

If he wants 11 by five, you Sign that before he realizes how dumb that is.

Well, because goal-tending is a tricky position. How old is Igor Shesterken? He is right now 28. Yeah, there you go. I think you sign an eight-year deal if you're 28. If you're 25 and you're Swayman, it's funny that Shesterken wants the shorter deal, Swayman wanted the longer one. If I were them and I was looking at it just for me and not being an athlete or whatever, never being in that position, I would switch it around. I think- Have I Swayman- You sign five and take your chances as the Rangers. Well, I think absolutely you do. With Shosturkin, though, I look at that and I go, Why do you not want the eight years? It's likely because he knows that over the next five years, the cap is probably going to go up about $20 million, and he could be leaving $10 or $15 million on the table. However, if for whatever reason, injury, anything else can happen, especially into your early 30s, slow down in performance, it may not even end up mattering. I can understand why New York wants the full eight years because they want some cost certainty there as well. I mean, it's cost-certainty, it's expensive, but at the end of the day, I think it benefits both sides to go eight years here, whereas Swayman, I would have been like, I do three or four.

Here's the tweet from Cam Robinson, just so we get it out there. Pigybacking on Kevin Weekes' post on Shisterken, I was told recently that Igor may be more keen on a shorter term deal. Five years, question mark. If New York wants eight years, they have to seriously break the bank.

So he's got to go-For the eight years? Oh, my God.

I think that's eight years from now's problem. What if we got a Stanley Cup? What if we got one in that window? I don't care.

Listen, You lock this guy up, you 100% lock him up. But I think if he wants five, you give him five. You don't worry about the eight.

If you look at it, too, you don't worry about the eight. You're absolutely right. If it costs a disgusting amount to go to eight years, then just don't do it. But I would say he's doing the rangers a favor by going five years. I really do. I think so. And I look at- Their window is going to be at least five years. Well, I don't know. I actually don't know what next summer looks like for New York. It doesn't mean they're not going to be good. I have to look at their prospect pipeline, which I don't have in front of me, that thing. But I would say that there are some potential big veteran pieces moving on here. And when you look at, oh, my God, she's sterking at $11 million. That would be crazy. Listen, He's going to be the only guy making that. What's going to be easy for the Rangers is filling out the rest of the roster. Problem with Toronto, to bring it back to us because it always does, is now we've got four guys making over 11. It's too much. That becomes comes, that's where you find some roster issues and you have to sign Tanev to a much longer term than you perhaps wanted to keep the AAV down.

You lose out on a guy like Matt Roy. Careful. Matt Roy, who, if you'd been able to kick in another quarter million, you probably would have had.

We're getting into, how does this affect the least territory?

But I'm giving the best comparable that I can, which is teams with over $11 million on the book. The only other teams that have that, it's Colorado, Wait, with what? Who's got more than $11 million wrapped up in a player?

Oh, in one player? Yeah. Colorado. Edmonton has two. Yeah. Or no, they don't have two.

They don't because Leon has two. Yeah.

You don't have to worry as much as some other teams in this league about attracting free agents, and you're definitely not going to have to worry about the cap space to do it. Panarin is going to age out of his deal, and That frees up 11.6 million.

Which I think he's been pretty good on that contract.

Yeah, his playoffs have been come see, come saw. But they're going to have to turn over the core. If they're lucky, they'll be able to do something like what Dallas has done, where they had Bawelski for a while. He obviously just retired. Sagan, Ben, those were their big money core guys, and now they've been replaced by Hints and Robertson.

And you're expecting the next generation. There's another wave.

They have three generations, well, as athletes go, of guys, and they're all still there. It's not like they've left Except for Pavelski. So I think that's what the Rangers, if everything goes well, could expect.

Yeah, I think you're going to see a Jake Truba trade this out. I think, too-There's another one. The fact that this is out there tells me That they're talking a lot.

I think it gets done.

I think it gets done pretty- I think it needs to get done before trade deadline. Because if you're the Rangers, you need to know. I think you need to know how for it are we going to be and how much is next year going to cost. If we are acquiring somebody. What's it going to cost to keep them? What's the acquisition cost? I wouldn't be overly shocked if we wake up tomorrow morning and there's a deal. Well, actually, you know what?

We're just going to focus up and make it happen. And specifically, Gino is really making that he's driving that second line. I felt like, honestly, on offense, the Ler line was good. I thought the The Malkin line was great. Good for Kevin Hayes for getting a goal. That has to feel really good. I'm not loving... I know it's going to take Rust a little bit to get back up. He was injured. I don't love Bavillé on Crosby's wing. I don't love it. It's a big win for Jarry. He's got to feel good. I think that's his first of the year, so he's got to feel good about that. I think Montreal has got to get a winger, or Montreal is got to get a winger.

Pittsburgh has got to get a winger here for Crosby. I just don't think he's your next Chris Kunitz if I'm going on there. Let me say this. From Montreal's perspective, you're not walking away from this loving it. But what I will say is that I thought that their second period and half of the first really, really strong. There's no reason that they couldn't have and shouldn't have brought that momentum into the third period. They just didn't. And I think it's because they're young and they're figuring themselves out. And even Montreal, like their second-line center, Curvy Doc didn't play much last year. You got people still getting up to speed, and Patrick Laine is not playing until After Christmas and all that, there's things to do. So I think there's reasons to be excited in Montreal. But these are the types of games Montreal is going to lose. They're going to lose games to teams that are ideally top out as mid-level potential playoff teams like Pittsburgh. They're going to lose these games because Pittsburgh still just has that edge, but not forever. Not forever. So Listen, I hope you guys all enjoy your night. You were incredible tonight.
