I think it's said, I think it's logical. What I thought you'd find, oh, we am I. This time goes by, this simple way. Should I do you mind? Oh, we am I. I'm finding Tell me why they love to be. Fighting for love. Fighting for love. Oh, raise the Earth and see my way. This is fighting for love. Fighting for love. Oh, raise the Earth and see my This love is staring, staring, staring, staring, staring. I'm fighting for love. I'm fighting for love. Raise me up and see my willingness. I'm fighting for love. I'm fighting for love. No way. Are you here? Are we back here? Is this starting again? What's going on, Ripper Nation? I haven't fully got my voice back from being sick a few weeks ago, but see, I can't even woo properly. Hi, everybody. Welcome to the very first Monday Night's stream. It's not the first Monday Night's stream we've ever done, but it is Monday Night Hockey, right? Now, we've got the new Amazon Prime thing here in Canada, where we're watching a game on Amazon Prime for the first time ever. Never been done up in Canada before, so that's exciting.

00:03:43

Ripper Nation back. I saw that there were already 200 of you in the chat before we even started, which is incredible. Love that. I just want to know how are we feeling right now? How was the summer? Can you talk to me about what you did? I got to know. I I got to know what you were thinking. Did you go on vacation? Did you learn anything great about feet? Listen, we want to bring everybody in tonight and have a good time. Apparently, you can get demonetized for showing too many feet on the stream, so we're going to have to keep that to special occasions this season. But we got Pittsburgh, we got Montreal, and we got Hayden, the stats God, our producer tonight. And we also have Rob and Justin in the chat, so make sure that you're nice to them and you're kind to them and you say that you love them. So let's set up the game here, and then I want to hear about your vacation. You ready? First off, Penguins, Canadians. First game ever. You're watching history on Amazon Prime here in Toronto, or Toronto in Canada. It's not in Toronto, it's Montreal.

00:04:44

So Cydney Crosby is one point away from reaching 1,600 career points. He tried to do it versus Toronto on Saturday night. He could not. He will be the 10th player ever to reach that milestone. And he and Malkin and O'Batchi are the only guys over the age, I'm sorry, over 1,300 points that are working in the NHL currently, which is pretty wild. Just unbelievable. Oh, we had a... Cassie? No. Is that... No, it was... Hello. First off, hello. Shout out to Cassie. And shout out to Natalie. Natalie, I would assume, is my wife, although she has Steve Dangle's face next to her name. She just gifted 20 memberships. What's up, Natalie? Thank you so much. Thank you so much, Natalie. All right, so here's what we got. Some vacation. Chris Bishop went to Vancouver. He said, Experience Vancouver, finally. It rocks. Vancouver's beautiful. It sounds like you went in the summer, obviously, so that was pretty sweet. James worked and took no vacation, but I bought my first house, so I need the money. Yeah, I agree. Listen, you're never going to be more broke than when you buy your first place. You're just super broke, and you're super broke for a while, so enjoy the place.

00:05:54

You can't leave it. You can't go out. But you know what? You have the place, and that's what matters. Is there a new SDP podcast coming out today? Yes, there is. Sdp comes out tonight. Jessie's working on it right now. Chris and Julian are recording tomorrow, so you'll get them tomorrow. We have a brand new Agent Provocator, which might be interesting to Montreal Canadians fans because Max Patcheretti is the big theme of it, how he became a Toronto Mapleleaf and officially got booed at the Bell Center, too. That's all on there, and Alan goes into depth, which is pretty sweet. By By the way, Cira Marlo. Hello, Serra. Welcome back. I see a lot of familiar faces, by the way. A lot of familiar faces. Serra said, Natalie is the best non-SDP employee. Agreed. Sdpn, best credentialed media outlet in the NHL and most gripping content. Thank you, Aaron. I appreciate that. Aaron, I know you've been here for a while, too. Garthie Betman, $10 Super Chat. Here for the grippers. Thank you. Oh, my God. There's so many names that are familiar. Mki Sports. What's going on? Hong-long. Hong-long. Long-long. Jeez. All right. I'm not sure if that's a name I should have read out loud or not.

00:07:16

I don't know. Quick sidebar. Is Fields QB1 the rest of the year? I think he's got to be. If you're watching the Steelers, I don't know. Listen, I was all down for making fun of Russell Wilson, and Russell Wilson memes and the Steelers not being that good this year. But Justin Field seems to be pulling it together, and they were calling for Russell Wilson to start this week, and he didn't. And here we go. Oh, we also got Cathy Lawson. Cathy Lawson, thank you so much for dropping five subs in the chat. Look at that. Jesse Blake wants to know, Will Lane, Hutspun, I don't know who that is. Hutspun? Hutspun, win every Norris forever. Probably. You mean Lane, Bo Jackson, Hudson? Come on now. That's a little love for our friend Arpen Basu. We need to do a gripper nation pit, like circle pit. That is wild. Hey, David Owens from the mansion in Kingston. David, I owe you a phone call. David was the first live show at his bar. It was the first live show we did after COVID. How about that? Adam, who will score first? Matthews or McDavid? Yeah, boy.

00:08:28

Yeah. It's not been a great start for Although I have to say, Matthew's advanced numbers are insane. They're so good. Edmondson, they're looking very last year, Edmondson. Is McDavid a bust? Has to be asked. Ant Seb, 95. It's a good question. It's a good question. Hey, guys, I want to redirect things back to your summer, since this is our first little bit back, need to know how your vacations went. Listen, they're setting up the game. The haves are jumping on the ice. Thankfully, the Leaps have already played in Montreal, so we don't need a 45 minutes ceremony to start this game. No offense, Canadian fans, but your ceremonies can be a little bit long sometimes. Just hit me up. Tell me what you did for vacation. Let's go. Steelers took care of business yesterday. Mitz Fish, yes, they did.brooke Henderson wants to know if there is a history corner for intermissions. I mean, we'll see. We do have a lot of intermissions to cover. Again, every Monday night, we're going to be here. The reason I picked Monday night was because Mondays traditionally suck, and I wanted them to suck less. I wanted there at least to be some social gathering.

00:09:33

Nobody gets together on a Monday. Nobody goes out. Nobody does anything fun. So if we're going to be watching hockey anyway, why can't we just be hanging out and watching it together? So whatever game is on in Montreal, for Amazon, on Prime, not in Montreal, then we're good to go. And I believe I have the Leifs next week, so that'll be neat, too. I've never done a Leifs game. Garret the Jedi, I drove to Watkins Glen, so I win vacations. Yes, you do. Watkins Glen International, great racetrack, not Not far from here. We didn't have a vacation. We're hockey fans, not hockey players. I mean, what did you do on the weekend for fun? You must have done something. Did you just sit at your home and just grumbble about the fact, I can't go on vacation. I'm mad. That can't be what you did. You must have done something fun with your family or something. That guy from Canada, I went to the Metallica weekend. Oh, that would have been fun. Darren Labarish. Yeah, Montreal ceremonies are long, but it's the most historic team in the NHL. Yes, true. Hi, Adam. I hope you all are doing well.

00:10:38

I'm planning... This is from Leif. Planning to go to the Hockey Hall of Fame this weekend with my dad. Super excited for that. You will have a blast. And when you go to the Cup room, it looks like they are doing a ceremony. Of course, they are because it's a Montreal game. If you are going to the Hockey Hall of Fame, remember that Steve got engaged in the room where they have the Stanley Cup. That's real. Steve got engaged there. His wife's not even really a hockey fan. I don't know if she was watching his stream on Saturday. She definitely wouldn't be watching mine. You know where Steve's wife and I really vibe? It's reality TV, Real Housewives, Below Deck, all that stuff. That's where you get her going. She can list stats like Steve when it comes to that stuff. Hey, Adam, I went to Oktoberfest. Oktoberfest in Kichner or Oktoberfest in Germany? Because there's a big German population in Kichner. I hear, apparently, Oktoberfest is amazing there. Why the crotch mural in the background? Believe it or not, we painted this and didn't think about it. And unfortunately, that's Jessie's. We had to cover it because you know.

00:11:57

And then this one's mine, and we didn't cover it because you know. Anyway, now you know. I'm just reading the chats here. How was Star Wars: Jedi: survivor? Did you play it? Yes, I did, Jared. I played it, and it was very, very good. In fact, I played it with my wife watching because she liked the story. And I've only done that with a couple other games that she's really liked, and Jedi survivor was one of them. We got through the whole thing. It's fantastic. Now, Pittsburgh swept the season series with Montreal last year. We're going back to hockey for a second here. 3-0. And during those games, they outscored the Canadians 10-6. Crosby has 64 career points versus Montreal in 49 games. Among Crosby's 23 career goals versus Montreal. Five of them have been game winners. So Sydney Crosby is due to have a big night tonight. And let's not forget, Cydney Crosby is going for 1,600 points. He is eight goals away from 600 goals. So there's a lot of big moments that Cydney Crosby is going to have in the next few weeks, which is going to be very cool. He deserves all of them.

00:13:08

And I think it's cool that if he does get his 1,600 points tonight, it's against his childhood favorite team. It's against one of those teams that if Pittsburgh were to move on from Crosby or if Crosby were to move on from Pittsburgh, you could see him in Montreal, couldn't you? I could see him in Montreal. I don't want to do that to you guys in Pittsburgh. I know. Oh, it's Cassie. I I can't believe I did it to you, especially after you just gifted 50 SDPN memberships. Holy smokes, guys. We're off to a great start. Thank you all so much. This is amazing. Gurthy Betman, My summer was great. I let my VGK children get out of Leonard's contract. There you go, Gurthy. Thank you for that. Trizack. Oh, hi, Tristan. How much to hear a bit of your radio alter ego, the Wild Man. You mean the Wild Man? Coming at you right now from downtown Toronto for the Montreal, Pittsburgh game. It's the Wild Man. I can't do it much. I can't do it that much anymore. What does Justin need? What did I do wrong? Justin, check your phone. Adam, do you want...

00:14:14

Oh, Justin. I love when Justin does this. Adam, do you want to play a game? Pick one player from each team. If either player score, I'll drop a 20-pack of gifted subs. Love you, pooky. Okay, so I'm going to make my pick, and then Hayden is going to feed me his pick. So my pick is going to be Crosby, and it's going to be 0.600. It's going to be 1,600 points, excuse me, and he's going to score, and it's going to be goal number 593, and Sydney Crosby is scoring tonight. If it's not him on the Montreal All Canadians. I feel like nick Suzuki. I know the obvious one is like Cole Caulfield, Slavkowski was amazing with them last year. I can't wait to watch this line grow and develop, but I feel like it's nick Suzuki tonight, don't you? So anyway, those are my Hayden, we have face off. Feed yours to me, unless you can put your microphone through on the screen here. Okay, no good. Did Did anybody hear that, or was it just me? Okay, so he's got Crosby and Caulfield because they're part of a parlay. And by the way, guys, that was our very first Puck drop on Amazon Prime.

00:15:26

How about that? Malkin just hit 1,300 points against the Leifs on Saturday. No? Yes, he did. He absolutely did. Warrior Wamp. Obviously, the first goal is coming from Pizeta. Is Pizette even dressed, guys? I have to check that. I like Pizette, at least when he's not playing the Lefs. So we already got them pinned down early. Crosby, Rust, and Bavillier is an interesting top line. We were talking about that. You haven't heard it yet because it's not out. The SDP will be out later. But I got to tell you, watching the Penguins on Saturday night, it wasn't crazy bad. It just it seemed like a game where they let it slip away. Cassie saying that Sid's 1,600th point on Gino's 500 goal. Let's see it. Adam, are you doing Hockey Fantasy this year? Yes. One of my teams absolutely destroyed. Another team lost by a point. And they're the Daily Fantasy League. So I have to go in there and set my lines daily. But you would not believe, I got Maclin Salabrini, Connor Bedard, and MatVe Michkoff all in one team. And I'm going to try to convince these guys to do a keeper league.

00:16:46

Because, going to get all the dubs after a few years. All right, everybody. First question up there on the chat, how are we feeling about the Amazon Prime score bug? And if you don't know what a score bug is, you're not alone. I didn't know what a score bug was until two years ago. I'm like, what is a score bug? And somebody had to explain it to me. I'm like, oh, you mean the spot with all the stats on it? Why do they call that a score bug? I don't know. I don't know. Are any pens or habs on your fantasy team, Adam? Believe it or not, I don't think so. And it's not because I didn't want Crosby. Somebody took him right before I was going to get him. So I went with Keo Makar. And then in the other I tried to get Malkin in the third or fourth round, and he was already gone. So there you are. I did not. In Montreal, there was a bunch of Montreal fans in both of my pools. And so guys like Koffild, Slivkowski, and Suzuki are gone. Although, Montembeau, low-key, could be a pretty sick goal tender pickup.

00:17:52

Just throwing that out there. River, the Net, Mister Yearwood. Thank Thank you for the crab people emoji. I love that. I found out today that Edmondson has Travis Dermot. Travis Dermot is on the team, and believe it or not, he's playing top four defensive minutes for the Edmondson Oilers right now. They're 0 and 3, and it's not Travis Dermot's fault. We love Travis Dermot. We wish him the best. Have you clicked like on this video yet? Because if you have not, I will be sad. Robert just put that in the chat. We're only at 120 likes, 600 people watching concurrently right now. We got to up the likes. We got to up the likes. Here we go. There's Matheson. Like a little Slavkowski. You realize how big Slavkowski are they? Just skating next to, literally, anyone else. If he breaks out this year and He could. I don't know who can stop him. He's everything that I think they expected Josh Anderson to be years ago, but probably with a bazillion times upside. Again, I'm just I'm not sold. Pen's fans are going to have to talk to me on this one. I'm not sold on this line, this Baville-Rust line.

00:19:06

I know Rust just got back, and I just thought Bunting Crosby made so much sense, and maybe he's working really well with Gino. And Gino and Michael Bunting on the same line is just hilarious for refs. But I do have to say, I thought that Bunting was a lock for Crosby. Just seems like the a guy who plays with big name players and is good at it. Offside here. By the way, if anybody's checking, just to align our streams here, you could just refresh your Amazon page. But essentially, I'm at 16:50. If you're looking to align streams, that's where I'm at. And we are working on a score bug for us, too. But it's very, very difficult and tricky to do, as Hayden can attest to. So that's what we're going to do. Dubis ruining Crosby's final So I don't think that that's fair. As much as I give Kyle a bit of a hard time for some of the moves he made here in Toronto, largely, his moves were extremely positive. Oh, man. Carl, some nice little breakout pass there. I think Kyle was tasked with an impossible job, and until ownership lets him rebuild the team, there's a reason he signed for seven years, right?

00:20:29

You try to win in the first two or three years, and then you go, Okay, we can't. So either Crosby is retiring, and Gino is retiring, and Chris Littang is retiring, or they're moving on. And then we rebuild the team, and we get a bazillion draft picks and get the next Crosby, right? I don't know. It's a nightmare. You know who wrecked Crosby's last few years? And it's not anything personal because I have met them both, and they're both nice guys, is Ron Hexdall and Brian Burke. That is what wrecked Crosby's final years. This team should be far further ahead than they are. I'm just throwing that out there. Thoughts on Montebow. Man, they're talking about this guy like he might be the starter for Team Canada. My thoughts are I'm excited to watch him play more. This guy played. I mean, he played awesome against Toronto in the opening game, and I haven't caught a Canadian game since then. That's why we're doing the streams. We all get to watch different teams. It's not just leaf games now. We're doing everything. And I think it's great to zoom around the NHL and see who's doing what and where.

00:21:36

And I think, specifically, this has got to be a big game for the Penguins, because I feel like they just want to get these Crosby and Malkin things done and move on with their season and get a couple of wins in here because it was an ugly start. That New York game was brutal. Toronto game was okay. Detroit game was good. Pittsburgh is a team that's going to challenge for the playoffs. They got to beat teams like Montreal. And Montreal is not an easy out. Yeah, for anybody wondering why we can't run game footage, we can't. Hi. Because we're Sdpn. And as much as we're thrilled for the current success, we don't have billions of dollars yet to buy the hockey rates. As soon as we do, I guarantee you, we're going to be all over it. All over it. Time check, by the way, is 14:38. So if you're wondering, 14:38 is the time check. I met Brian Burke when I worked at Cumbray's. Which Cumbrays did you work at? That's a delicious place here in Toronto, where you get delicious food. I love Cumbrays. Stream rights are expensive. Yes, they are. They are more than a billion dollars a year.

00:22:58

That's how much hockey rights So, yeah. And here's the thing about the billion dollars is you need to have the billion dollars first. You can't just walk up and be like, oh, I'll get it eventually or I'll take out a loan. You got to have that money. And then they'll be like, okay, we'll consider you. So maybe one day, Sdpn gets to that level. I would like to. I would like to. But we got a lot of work to do. Get that company to billions of things, get the streams available, no regional blackouts. Sdpn would be Anti-regional blackout, we wouldn't allow it. How's that? There you go. That's why you need to go with us, okay? If we had the rights, we wouldn't do that to you. That's all I'm saying. Did Adam manage to get tickets to Oasis or Coldplay? No, I am going to go to both, but I am waiting on the tickets a little bit because I didn't want to wait in the line, and I wanted to see what this new Rogers outdoor venue in Toronto is going to look like, and then I'm going to decide my seats from Am I going to do standing room?

00:24:01

No. So Hayden has two buddies that bought tickets to Oasis. You ready for this? Ready for the price? $750 each. $750 each. Yikes. That's crazy. Just crazy. Just bonkers. So we're at commercial break right now with Amazon Prime. By the way, that was the first five minutes of Amazon Prime Hockey. How do we feel about it? Just want to throw that out there. I felt good about it. Looked good to me. I mean, I've been talking to you the whole time, but I'm enjoying. More importantly, Justin has tickets to Modest Mouse. Man, those guys have been around forever. I'm not paying that for Oasis. I saw Oasis in 94, the last show of their first tour. That would have been good. Hard pass on those prices, I know. Listen, I'm sure it's 750 bucks a ticket. They got good seats. I'm sure they're not at the back of the 100,000 people that are going to see them. I'm sure that they're on the floor, Hayden. So they're on the floor. So would they have to be there? Are those assigned seating, Hayden, or are they not assigned seating? Oh, my God. So it's $750 first come, first serve.

00:25:29

Okay, that's a bit of a problem. I don't know. I don't think I'd be paying that, but we'll see. Oilers fans, how do you feel about the oilers? I feel like it's another typical oilers start. I'm sure they're going to win the Cup. 0-3, their goal differential is negative 12. They've scored three goals all year in three games. You're going to win. That's like the Leaps' playoff's bad. You've scored three goals in three games. That's the Toronto Maple Leaps. And somehow they'd have won in one of those games, and they've had 15 allowed. That's wonky. And we were talking about it on the show today, and I asked Steve and Jesse about it, and they're not worried. The one team that we are looking at that might need to make a big change real quick is Colorado because Georgiev is turning into Fouriev. He's letting in a lot of goals, and they are a negative six on their goal differential already, and it's not as goofy as the Oilers, but you know what Stuart Skinner can be when he's great. And you know the Edmondton Oilers need to make a trade on defense, and they'll probably be fine.

00:26:38

Because no offense to Travis Dermot, but him and Darnell Nerset, D3 and D4 is not ideal. What do you got a goal? We got a goal, and it's Laura Zeller, baby. Wow, big goal, too. So Puyarvi, I believe, gets his first points, too. That's a bit of a It was. Sorry, guys. I picked the wrong guy. I just bet on Sydney Crosby. That was pretty stupid, right? To score the first goal. That's a... Wow. So when you look at this shot, They did a great job of a breakout pass there over to Puyarvi. And this is why he got drafted so high. Nice little setup. And Larseller just picks the corner. Oh, baby. Good shot. Wow. That's great. That was a great shot. It was a great goal. Sorry, Montreal fans. I have no dog in this fight, but that was pretty sweet. I'm going to have a look at the stats here. And the penguins do not have their stats officially listed at the moment. I can't click on. I'll have to look at a different website. Still looking for that Crosby point. We're looking for that Crosby point. We're looking for that Geno goal.

00:28:01

Pittsburgh. Penguins into Google. Give me stats, baby. Give me stats. I click on the stats section of their thing, and I can't click anything. Oh, here we go. No. Their website is not working properly. Tonight, that's okay. I'll pick something else. Anyway, long story short, I Here we go. Pouyarvi has not... Has just had the assist. Wow. Yeah, it's interesting. There's a couple of guys on this Pittsburgh team that I'm like, I mean, if that works, it'll be good. Pouyarvi finally really finds a home in Pittsburgh. Here's Carlson in deep with a shot on Montebo, squared up and got it. You can imagine a guy like Kevin Hayes finding his game a little bit. He's had a really hard couple of years. You can look at a guy like... I think Michael Bunting is great, so he doesn't need to find anything. But I look at Anthony Bouvillier as well and go, That guy has been on four teams in five years. I bet he probably doesn't want to move anymore. It would be nice for him not to have to move. I wonder if he's feeling like, All right, I better make my mark here and make sure it happens here.

00:29:29

Ever since that move to Vancouver, it's just not gone well for the guy, and I feel for him. Kind of sucks, right? I'm just pulling the stat sheet up, Hayden put together as well. Centering pass. So what's going to be interesting with Montreal is, oh, boy, is situations like this where they get hemmed in their own zone. You've got Gouly and Matheson out there, and they're going to be a team that makes a ton of mistakes. But you do have Like Savard, Matheson, those guys really need to bring the young guys along, Gouly and Lane Hudson, specifically. And there are going to be some tire fire moments. And I'm interested to see... They got Arbër Jackai in the lineup. I'm interested to see how often he takes the ice. I haven't seen a lot of the Noel Achari Kevin Hayes line, and I would imagine that that's who he's going to go out against, but Achari is out there right now. And there's Shaqai. Yeah, okay. Well, there you go. Baren around. Picked off. Oh, we got a potential scoring opportunity here. Fourth line for the Penguins. Yeah, it's fun to watch teams outside of your home city.

00:30:46

It's just fun to watch hockey, generally, but it's nice to watch a team that you're like, I don't really know how they've been performing. Now, the Leaps have happened to play both of these teams, so we have an idea of so far. But the great thing about the early season 10 games in, is you don't really know. Look at what Everton did after game 15 last year. It was November, and they started winning all the way to game seven. So Lane Hudson, deke it out, Bradley K'Chuck this weekend, and now making some offensive zone. No, no. Pittsburgh got that pretty quickly. Dump & Chase. Let's check in with the chat here. Oh, who's dropping subs? Rachel Bishop. Hello, Rachel. Thank you so much for dropping those subs. Damn. Trash Productions. Huge oilers fans here. No panic. They do this every year and end up eating the league alive and going deep in the playoffs. You know what? You shouldn't be worried, Trash Productions. Hey, Cassie, thank you for the other five gifted subs as well. That's amazing. Yeah, honestly, I look at the oilers start and I go, talk to me in January. Even then, remember the St.

00:32:02

Louis Blues were last in the NHL and they still won the Cup. But yeah, if it's a problem in January, then I could say it's a problem. But Edmondson is just too talented. They are weak on defense. They need better players. They lost Broberg, they lost Cee Cee. I know Broberg didn't play a ton in the regular season, but when he was playing in the playoffs, because I did a lot of Edmondson-Oilers games last year on the way to that run, I did the entire Vancouver series, and I did their next series, and then Steve took over in the finals. And I don't know, man. I liked Broberg a lot. I think he would have been really valuable for them this year. Mki Sports, Happy Canadian Thanksgiving, Adam. What did you eat for Thanksgiving? I love me some turkey and ham. Well, I'll tell you this. My wife is a bit of a chef, and a bit of a baker. Can you tell by the excess weight I've put on? She's actually really good. She does this thing where it's called dry brining a turkey. She has this mixture of salt and some other things, and it sits in the fridge for two days.

00:33:05

It's supposed to... The salt sucks the moisture out of the turkey, and then it melts because it's salt back into the turkey, along with all the flavors you put on top of it. So you dry-brine it for two days, and then she puts butter under the skin, and then it cooks. It's the most insane turkey I've ever had. It's so good. Then, yeah, And then so that's the turkey I had. So you asked me about my Canadian Thanksgiving, that's what I ate. Carbo load, dude. Yeah, well, that's my life. It was so good. I have to tell you, it was so, so, so, so good. Dan, baseball, Ceece. Yeah, I know. Listen, we laugh about Ceece, but Ceece was playing a game seven in the finals last night, and none of us Saltylea fans were, or last night, last season. So I think we got to call a spade a spade. He made Stanley Cup finals. We didn't. But listen, their depth was already thin. They lost Deyarne to Vancouver, didn't they? Yeah. They lost Deyarne to Vancouver. Then they lost Broberg, and then they lost Cee. And then their big replacement for that was Travis Dermot on a PTO and then a $750,000 contract, which, not that against Travis, but that's just not enough, right?

00:34:27

You got to add more. By the way, to everybody that's been gifted memberships, we'd love for you guys to check out our VIP episodes. You're going to be able to watch for the next month, literally anything we put on. And we hope that you love them and that you enjoy them and that you stick around as a subscriber. I wish one day that we could see the private CC Analytics, Aaron Grace. Aaron is referring to the fact that NHL teams have much better analytics than what's available to us publicly on Twitter, because guess what? Analytics are hard and it's worth money to get good ones. I've seen, I had a glimpse of what teams have, and it's so beyond complicated and amazing. The depth of knowledge they have on any one of these guys is crazy. I'd like to see the advanced analytics on CC as well, because I still don't get it. I didn't get it in Toronto. I don't get it. But in San Jose, it's not going to matter. Look at all these people thanking people for gifted subs. Sportsnet only has the French language broadcast. I mean, you're into French on Duolingo, but I don't think I can follow that fast to pace.

00:35:42

Thank goodness for Adam Street. Well, hey, we're at 7:48 left in the first period, by the way. And I'll say this, the game is on Amazon Prime. So if you haven't caught that, Amazon Prime is the Monday night holder for English, Anglais. Adam, what are your thoughts on the offensive juggernaut that is the oilers being on pace for 82 goals the whole season? I did just talk about this, but I will say, talk to me in January because I'm not going to be worried before that. Hockey is all. Have you been tuning into postseason baseball? Yes, specifically all the Dodgers games, because I just want to know what the Jays might look like with Shoheya Ohtani. Because I love pain. I love pain. I'm here for the pain. I'm here for the pain. 7:26 left in the first, guys, if you want to hit this up. Adam, is it better than the Rogers Ignite app? Amazon Prime? It seems to be working fine. I don't know if it's better. I think they both stream games equally, I would say. Don't have an opinion yet. Best part of turkey dinner: stuffing, mashed potatoes, turkey or cranberry sauce.

00:36:58

I'm going to go with stuffing. I'm I'm a big stuffing guy, but you got to get it right. And stuffing is not stuffing without turkey. Oh, here we go. Nice move. Man, Caulfield is looking solid to start the year. As a leaf fan, I hate it, but as a fan of hockey, I love it. Hudson with the dangles here. So Hudson is one of those guys. It's so interesting watching him because he's so fast with the Puck movement. You'd think at the NHL level that somebody would be like, Hey, stop that Dipsy Doodle We're going to poke check that away, and you're going to look foolish. But I think he's too quick. You can always tell when it's him handling the Puck, too, because he's like, I'm going to do 45 moves in three seconds. But it works for him. Whoa, big save. That's the first Montreal shot of the game. Got to give Pittsburgh credit here. They don't look like a team that... Well, they don't look like the same team that played the Rangers. We'll put it that way. Some big hits. Another big hit. You could hear the Bell Center crowd just react, and they are one of the best crowds in the sport.

00:38:11

Such a fun... I remember for a bachelor party, my bachelor party, for my first wedding, we went to Montreal, saw a game, and it was Montreal versus Detroit. And Montreal were really bad, but they beat Detroit 10 to 2. Was pretty sick. It was pretty sick. Patrick, Adam, do you think life is just a little better with a three-piece suit? Patrick, I know what you're referring to, and no, and I haven't worn a three-piece suit in years. No. Bigfoot, Pittsburgh is not making the playoffs this year. Yeah, I didn't think they make the playoffs last year either. I'm not sure how much better they really are, but it's all going to depend on some of these guys that they brought... Like I was mentioning it earlier, Bavillier, Russ has got to be healthy. Bunting has got to have a 65, 70 point season. That's what you need. You need some crazy stuff. I don't hate their defense. It's okay. But I'll say this, if it was over the next five years, what team would I be leaning into? It is absolutely the Montreal Canadiens and absolutely not the Pittsburgh Penguins. But it's hockey, so you never know.

00:39:28

Brian Shay, just looking this guy He's played 31 games. He has one goal, he has zero assists, and he is a plus one. And six penalty minutes. This is the most average boring stat line I've ever read. But maybe that's a good thing. Maybe he's just a boring stay-at-home defenseman. I don't know much about him. Did you guys see the LA-Ottawa game today? Yes, I saw the clips. We were recording the SDP during, and I got to tell you, wow, that was great. I couldn't believe that Ottawa has another... It sucks. Ottawa has another goal tender down, like I feel for you, if you're an Ottawa Senator's fan watching this right now. That sucks. That really sucks. Lena Solmark is out, don't know how long. Anton Forrestberg is out, don't know how long. So it's down to, we're three games in Mad Sogard, which is He's a good goalie, really good, but not ideal at the event in Chela level when you're trying to make play offs. Ottawa or Montreal in four years. I'm going to go Montreal. I'm going to go Montreal. I think I'm going to go Montreal. But I think there's more pain in the immediate future for the Montreal Canadians than there is for the Ottawa senators.

00:41:00

Does that make sense? I think I look at Montreal's, I look at a cool coffee field and I go, That guy could score 50 one day, right? Slabkowski, if he becomes what they think he is, imagine an 85 point winger who just trucks guys. I don't know. It's pretty sweet. I mean, listen, the centers already have that in Bradley Kachuk. But what if he was Montreal, Bradley Kachuk? I don't know. I just think Ottawa's window to win is sooner than Montreal's. And I think Montreal's ceiling if they continue drafting this way. And Kent Hughes has done a great job with his staff on doing some really good trades. Oh, here we go. Nice shot. That was a good little play. That first line, man, Suzuki, Slivkowski, Caulfield. Great play from behind the net there by Caulfield. Just throws it up to Suzuki. And I don't think Suzuki got all of it, but that was a nice zone entry. Deep. Oh, it was Slivkowski that put it out, and then Caulfield over to Suzuki. They just seem to know where each other is. It's going to be a great... It's one of those Montreal things that the entire city has already fallen in love with these guys, and you could see why, right?

00:42:15

They're going to be Kings. Yeah, it's going to be crazy. Nick Suzuki is just staying on the screen in 33 goals last year. He's breaking that this year for sure. Ottawa, the two-time Stanley Cup champions in August. Well, I felt for Montreal this year because I felt like that Montreal fans were the Stanley Cup winners of August because there was a lot of them going, Well, we got Line A now. We're going to the playoffs. And as much as I respect what Montreal is doing, I think even with Line A here, that's a lot to ask. I think they've got a little bit more growing to do and a few more signings, signings/trades. But when they do make it, they're going to be a menace. Is there a stiff thing? What am I missing? Stiffness? Do you miss non-sponsored arena names? I mean, I don't know if I'm old enough to remember too many of them. It was Maple leaf Gardens, and there's Madison Square Gardens or whatever. Raquel almost had one there. This second line is interesting. Raquel, Bunting, Malkin. I think this If Crosby was on it, it would be the best line they have.

00:43:32

But Malkin's on it, so it's the best line they have. It's absolutely the best line they have. Oh, what a... Wow. Nice setup for Malkin, too. Damn. I didn't even think that Puck went in. I was like, Oh, no. It was a great save by Montebo. No, it wasn't. It was just in and out so quickly. Damn. Wow. Great playing. Do Pittsburgh or Montreal need to change their uniforms, in your opinion? No, I like Pittsburgh and Montreal's uniforms. I hope... The only uniform I could see... First off, Montreal can never change their uniform. It's never changed yet, and it should never change. It's perfect. Leave it. It's classic. It's amazing. I wish the leaves had never changed theirs. Good for the pens, man. That was a good shot. Pittsburgh had a very cool jersey in the '70s, but they were terrible, so nobody really remembers it. And then when they became good, they had the jersey that they're currently wearing with Mario and Ron Francis and all the guys that were on that team, Yammer Jagger. And then they went to that weird late '90s Pittsburgh jersey that was like, triangular. Do you remember that one?

00:44:49

I really like that Jersey, but that might just be because it's nostalgic for me. I think both of these teams have great jerseys. I think what you need on these teams, because everybody on Pittsburgh has bought a Crosby. Every Pittsburgh fan, if you're a Pens fan, you can't at this point say that you don't own a Crosby Jersey. If you're a Pens fan, you own a Crosby Jersey, you probably own a Malkin, you probably own a little Tang, probably a Marc-Andre Fleury as well. Pittsburgh needs a new star to sell some jerseys for. You know what I mean? They need a young guy. Like, is Rucker McGordy the guy? And in Montreal, you've got a bunch of studs that you can just... It's just the stars in Pittsburgh have been this all off the post. The stars in Pittsburgh have been the stars for so long. It's like, I don't know, Eric Carlson, a lot of Eric Carlson jerseys flying off the shelf. I don't know. What is the worst jersey in the League? I've said this for years. I think it's the Dallas Glow in the Dark One. I just think there's zero effort.

00:45:51

That D with the star, just ugly, really ugly. James Stemmler. Thoughts on the insanity of the leaf effect. The home I bought is in Sarnia. I looked at wings tickets, random wings game, $70. Leaps in Detroit, minimum $180. And I'm assuming that's US dollars. Yeah, that's not surprising. The Leaps fan. Oh, we got a big goal for Montreal. We'll come back to this. Nice flippin goal. Is that Caden Gooley? That was a great shot. So Something that we should probably talk about since we're on the goal scoring end of the Pittsburgh Penguins here. Let's have a look at this play first, and then I want to talk about Tristan Jari. So there's that Montreal first line out there again. Nice goal. Slevkowski right in front of him, right in front of Tristan Jari. I don't know if... I didn't see if Jari... Does Jari get a good look at this? No. He He's not even in position for it, and I don't even know if that's his fault. Yeah, he's just not there. He's not squared up. So Tristan Jari is so interesting because... Oh, we got a high-sticking call right off the bat there.

00:47:12

That sucks. You could just tell when players are like, damn it, that's Yoel or Mia, by the way, going to the box. Okay, we got to talk Tristan Jari. So Tristan Jari is interesting because Tristan Jari was signed to an extension as soon as Dubas got there. We all remember five year is about 25 and a half or $26 million. He makes like, what is it, 5,125 per year. Penguins fans in the chat, you know. So then last year, there is a, I believe it's a game against the Islanders where Jari just falls apart. Essentially, the last 13 games of the year after that, he's not playing. And he really loses the starter position to Alex Nadelkowitch, who was resigned this offseason. But Nadelkowitch is dealing with injuries, and nobody wants Jarry's contract. And this kid, Joel Blunkist, they put him in against the Toronto Maple Leaves on a Saturday night because they trust him more in Toronto on a Saturday night than Tristan Jarry. And so they've put Jari in against a Montreal team that is not expected to do much in the standings. The vibes are going to be off the chart in Montreal, but no one's expecting this team to go to the playoffs.

00:48:26

If they do, the vibes would be, I mean, otherworldly. But you know what I'm saying, right? So the Tristan Jari question in Pittsburgh is going to be something that will be very interesting the first few months of the year because ostensibly, the organization has just said, We don't trust them. They haven't said it out loud. But if they had a chance to be playing anybody else right now, who do you think they'd be putting in that? Anybody else? So it'll be interesting to see if he can regain that. Hot take. The Jari signing is worse than Graves. Is it worse than... I didn't like the grave signing either. I didn't like it at all, mostly because I don't see him as a fit in Pittsburgh, but I don't think he's a bad player. Oh, great steal by Newhook there. That was beautiful. We got 15 seconds left, guys. We'll see if this third line that put one in can do it for Pittsburgh with five seconds to go. Get a shot on the net. Shoot. You better shoot. You didn't shoot. Wow. That is a Kyle Dubas team if I've ever seen one, man. Yeah, Jari was off in La La Land, Cassie.

00:49:43

You're absolutely right. Man, That was wild. Wild. Yeah. So can I just say this, Pens fans? I don't know if this is just you guys or just us. I will tell you that as a fan of a Kyle Dubas-led team for half a decade, that when you need a goal or you want to score a goal and you got offensive zone pressure, and it's the last 15, 20 seconds of the period, just like we saw there, the chances of any of your players ever shooting is slim to none. The expected goals will be through the roof. The courses/possession numbers will be through the roof. But the goals No, they just sit there. It drives me flippin' crazy. It drives me flippin' crazy. Adam, thoughts on the gouli contract. I don't know how you can lose on that. Let me just look it up since we're on it. Here we go. Montreal, to me, has done a really great job with these young guys and been like, You're going to be great. Gouly. Oh, my God. 5.5 million? I forgot about this contract. So that's insane because Here's the deal. This is what you need to keep in mind, okay?

00:51:03

With Caden Gouly or anybody of his ilk, what is a $5.5 million defenseman in today's NHL? And by the way, his contract doesn't kick in until next year. What's a $5.5 million contract in the NHL. Who makes that? And I'll just pick a random team and see if we got one. Let's go to Seattle. Seattle's got players making $5.5 million. I know that. Okay, so here's one. Adam Larson makes $4 million this year, is getting a raise to $5.25 next year. Jamie Alexiak makes $4.6 million. Now, understandably, these are UFA years versus RFA years. But what are the chances that Caden Gouly underperforms a contract like that? I would argue very slim. If you look at where the salary cap is going over the next 2-3 years, we're going to be at $100 million, probably by 2028, if not sooner. That's because, A, the coyotes are gone, and no disrespect to their fans, but that team was a real drag on HRR, which is hockey-related revenue. If you have a team in Utah that just breaks even. The NHL is going to make $100 million more dollars next year. It matters that much. I look at the goalie contract and I go, Okay, so that guy is going to 5% of your cap or 5.5% of your cap in a few years?

00:52:33

Who cares? That's great. If he works out to be a top-line defenseman, which is what he's playing right now with Mike Mathieson, then you've got the steal of the century. If he is at best, your fourth best defenseman, that's still a steal. That's still a steal. It's a crazy contract. So the only other defenseman in the NHL, according to producer Hayden, who looked this up, that is making exactly 5.5 is Brett Pesce. Now, Brett Pesce signed that with UFA years in mind, but all the same. Imagine, let's say, Caden Gouly is just Brett Pesce minus five years. Do you care? It's a great deal. It's a great deal. I love it. I think they're doing a great job. Cassie says, If Blum and Nedalkovich play well, I think Jari goes elsewhere. You know what's interesting about Jari, and I didn't really finish my thought on this one, is you know who really needs a goalie? The Colorado Avalanche. And they wouldn't... Like, Billy Hussle was on waivers. They don't have the money to go and sign to get a guy like that. But let's say, Pittsburgh goes, Okay, we will retain a million dollars a year.

00:53:59

So So Jari goes from five point whatever to four point whatever. And he's got three and a half more years. So you probably get him for next to nothing, right? And the max he's going to cost you is four. It's bad if he sucks, but could he be worse than Georgiev? I don't know. Drew might hate this. Drew might hate this. Adam, what does this Leaps' roster look like if Dubas was still the GM? I don't think it would be... Well, first off, Keef would still be Coach. That is a guarantee. I don't think that they would have signed Kling last year. I don't know that they would have signed Domi or Bertuzzi. They probably would have gone after Tanev. I would imagine that Dubis would like a guy like OEL as well, so I could see that. But it seemed like Kyle never really never valued the defense thing in the same way that perhaps he should have. You see the difference that Chris Tanev brings to the leaves. It's insane. His breakout passes are crazy, and it's not flashy. It's just super simple. And then OEL, what he does and shooting from the point...

00:55:23

If you're a Montreal fan, you're a Pittsburgh fan, right? That's the majority of what we have on our chat right now. Pittsburgh, Penguins. You guys have had guys that can shoot from the point. Montreal, Canadian fans. You guys have had guys that can shoot from the point. Toronto does not have that until OEL shows up. And I think Tanef can shoot, too. But Whenever the fuck goes to Morgan Reilly, there's no reason for any penalty killer to go and cover him. Why? All you're trying to do is intercept his pass to Matthews on one side and Marner on the other. Because Matthews will be playing the high hash marks, and then And Marner will be high boards as well on the other side. That's it. But if OEL is there and he's able to shoot, well, now you got something, right? So it's a big difference. Hey, quick question, Hayden. Are we running any clips, my friend? All right, well, how many minutes do we have? How much until the game starts again? Okay, so here's what we're going to We're going to do an eight-minute clip. I have a five-minute, an eight-minute, and a twelve-minute clip, guys.

00:56:35

I'm telling you this. I'm talking to Hayden and talking to you. I'm going to run the eight-minute one, and I'll tell you why. I have to blow my nose, and I have to use the bathroom. And then I want to come back, and I want to enjoy the second period with you. Will you join me for the second period? Are you down? Is Gripper Nation there? I mean, it's October. Gripper Nation will build on Monday night throughout the entire season. How exciting. We only had that short little window of the first three rounds of the playoff last year. This year, I say we take over. Let me take a quick break. Let me blow my nose. I'm just going to be honest with you. For some reason, I think I had to change the filters in our building because every time I step in here, you see me on the SDP, I'm doing this all the time. I'm allergic to something in here. Anyway, love you all. Be right back. Now, let's talk a little bit about if there are always going to be areas of of concern, and a major area of concern last year with special teams, both sides of it.

00:57:34

I'll start with the power play, guys. And Jessie, I want to go to you on this one. We have the same lineup on power play one as we've had for three, four years. Not really a lot of personnel change.

00:57:52

Three, four assistant coaches managing that power play.

00:57:55

What did you see in that unit?

00:57:57

Split it up. We You've done this a million times. All of these good teams in the NHL are going to a new thing where they don't just load up the one power play. Unless you're Tampa, where you can just be Kuturov power play. Or Colorado. Or Colorado, where you don't really have the horses to do two units. I think it's a little different. Colorado, you can just throw out Kuturov out there. You know he's going to score on the power play. Either he's going to get an assist or he's going to get a goal. Toronto doesn't work like that. They struggle with loading up. So The best thing to do is to just try something different, and they refuse to do it time and time again. We see other teams who, if the second unit comes out and they're also dangerous because they have somebody on there, why not give somebody in this top unit their own second unit.

00:58:46

The second unit isn't the second power play unit. It's the don't screw up the line change unit. The first unit gets off the ice. Make sure you don't screw that up. All right, what do we got? Thirty-five seconds? Okay. We're not going to be able to do anything. When we're getting off the ice, we just need to make sure we don't screw that up to bring out the defensive guys. Okay, great. You're not dangerous.

00:59:10

You're not a threat. I understand the philosophy of you have everybody out there, so then when the second unit comes on, you're not handcuffed and you have to throw out your fourth line because everybody's out and those are the only guys you have left. You bring the big guns back on the bench. They get a little bit of rest. You can do whatever line combination you want coming back out. Justin Borne talked a little about that when he talked about the William Neylander at Center thing. He wrote an article on that. I don't know if we're getting that if you have there, but I'd like to just talk two seconds about that after. Take it, take it, go. But the power play thing, you can sacrifice your line change after the power play, whether you get the goal or not, because it'll generate goals. You're sacrificing the opportunity to have more bodies available, the big guns available, in the hopes that it generates more goals in the meantime. Isn't it better if you don't have access to Austin and Mitch because they scored?

01:00:03

Why not just mix things up and throw more people out there, and then hopefully they get a goal, and then you sacrifice the line changes that are going to follow, but then you have a goal on the board, which is the point of the game is to score more than the other team. What if you have the depth to trust the people that are coming out after the power play as well? You load up that top unit, and I'm looking at Daily Face Off right now, and so they have the updated lines from last night. One thing that I think I'm struggling with something because Tavares is good down low, but is he good down low in front of the net? I think so. A lot of tip-in goals and that thing. So I don't think you take him off that. William Nielander could finish. Austin Matthews is the best finisher in the league at the moment. Mitch Marder is one of the best passers the Leaps have ever had. I look at, and I mentioned this last year with Klingberg, who was not the guy. I look at Morgan Reilly, who is a points phenomenon.

01:01:01

I'm not taking away from Morgan's game. But one thing the least do not have on the first power play unit, if you're going to make a switch, to me, it's Morgan Reilly, because how many times have we seen Oliver Ackman-Larson already rip it? I like that player, man. For one of the first two games of the year, and I've been on this guy because I loved him in Florida, too. I didn't love the Vancouver thing, but I think that was more contract and the team sucked. I think he would have told you that. Oliver Ackman-Larson, to me, makes a lot of sense on the first power play. If you're going Give it a look. Exactly. If you must keep all these guys together, and you don't have to. I thought Domi and Matthews were amazing together last year. I don't know why they haven't gone back to it yet, even in preseason.

01:01:43

You mean five on five?

01:01:44

They were great five on five. Try them on power play together. But all of Regman-Larson seems like the easiest, let's try that first, guy. Because he has run top power play units for bad teams. Imagine what he could do for a good team.

01:01:58

I guess I just don't We did talk about this a couple of shows ago. I guess if you put Domi first-line, right wing, I just don't know what you do with the second-line then. So are you... Mitch isn't playing the left. He's never done that with the Lefs. Nylander has done it a bit. Do you do Nylander in the middle, Tavares on the left, and Nye stays with Matthews? Does Nye.

01:02:19

I don't see why if you can have Matthews win the face-off, I know you want to set Matthews up for one time or off the face-off, so that might play into this. Are you talking about the power play or five? Power play. Power play. I'm I'm not going to talk about power play. That's why I'm saying, put Oliver Ekman-Larson in for Morgan Reilly on the first power play unit.

01:02:34

Try that first. If you got to make one change, one, that's the one.

01:02:39

Then I look at, if you want to make another change, a guy I would sincerely look at is Max Domi. I think he and Matthews have something. Can you convince Max to get in front of the net and get nasty, pull Tavares onto the second power play unit, and then you still got Marner Matthews' knee lander on one unit.

01:03:00

Or even, here's how low the bar is, start the second unit.

01:03:05

Well, and so there were people getting upset about the fact that the Leaps did play the second unit a lot more than they have in the past.

01:03:12

They were getting upset about that?

01:03:13

Yeah. Did you see the first unit? If you look at the aggregate of what the Leaps power play unit has done over the last few years, over the course of a season, there's no doubt that they're one of the best power play units in the league. However, let's look at it from mid-February to the of whatever game they end in the playoff. It's annual gaslighting.

01:03:34

The power plate gaslights us every year. Oh, maybe this is the...

01:03:39

And they die. Well, because they also don't make any adjustments.

01:03:42

The trade deadline happens and they lose all their powers.

01:03:47

It's because it's something that's highly defensible. You can figure out what they're going to do. I think power plays, especially with the Lefs, have been far too much Much the same. Maybe they didn't feel like they had the horses on the second unit. I think they do now. I think there should be some fluidity with this. I agree. Remember we talked to Keith Acton in the spring when we were at the... We were at Boston Pizza, Stoville? Yes. And Keith was former Assistant Captain with the Leaps, and he said, You need to know about 20 games out from the playouts, what your lineup is going to be. And I get that.

01:04:21

That's such a good number that he threw out.

01:04:23

It's a quarter of the season.

01:04:24

But that's when they die.

01:04:27

Right. That's when they disappear. So I think Now, let's shake it up a little bit and see what happens. Did anybody-We're going to have to have several options. Did anybody predict last year that we were going to see Bertuzzi, Domi, Matthews? No. And yet, they were the top line going into the playoffs, and they were spectacular. And so why can't we try these things out? And I think they will. There's how many games? So many games. There's 82 of them. There's 82 of them. You got plenty of time to experiment. I also want to look at a guy like Matthew Nies, and it's going to come down to him earning it. But you saw what he did to Dougie Hamilton last night.

01:05:04

What a barbarian.

01:05:05

Does he not fit somewhere on the first unit as a big, scary body in front of the net? Or a guy digging in the corner? Just try it.

01:05:13

Just try it. Like, oh, you have 35 points last year. I still remember when people looked at me sideways, I'm like, Why don't I try Hyman on the least power play? There was a time where that was a dumb idea. Yes. There literally was a time where there was barely a justifiable plan.

01:05:29

Yes.

01:05:29

And then, Oh, he's starting to score. Okay, he's doing all right. And now he's one of the best goal scores in the league.

01:05:37

All right, we're back. Thank you for allowing me the nose break. It wasn't anything more exciting than me going and blowing my nose. Whatever you might have thought. No, I just have allergies. Anyway. Hi, everybody. Julian wants to know when the pod is dropping. It is dropping relatively soon. Jessie's actually downstairs editing it right now. We did it a little later this afternoon. And usually, actually, we do podcasts on a long weekend, a Thanksgiving long weekend. We'll do the Tuesday. But today, we thought, let's be different and cool. Actually, I want to tell you something. We are interviewing Matt Sandine tomorrow, and that'll be in Wednesday's show. So I get to talk to Matt, and it's not the first time we've interviewed him. We interviewed him in person for a Leo Vegas tournament six or seven years ago, and we're like, Matt, you follow Hockey. Who are you most excited about and that we haven't heard of? He said this kid named Elias Petterson. Turned out to It's going to be pretty good. Turned out to be pretty good. So I'm pretty excited. Jarth Quater is saying something that I should probably say more, which is, Click like and click subscribe.

01:06:56

This video. It, please, because it always It helps the video if you click like. So I just think if you can give me a little... Flash me a little bit of a like there, that'd be super duper before we're getting in the second period. Now, I'll be honest with you. That first period felt a lot like Pittsburgh was the best team for most of it, and Montreal still was able to get a goal because Tristan Jari is Pittsburgh's goalie, and he's not having a great time right now. Maybe not forever, but he's the goalie right now, and they're not enjoying that. So we'll see where this goes. If Montreal is able to come in here and wreck shop, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a goalie change in the second. That's how not high they are on Jari at the moment. I like to the fact that these are two teams that actually have something to prove early on in the season. Listen, if either these teams fail early, they're going to fail the whole way. Edmonton and Colorado and Nashville, to a smaller extent, are having the worst start to the season in the NHL currently.

01:08:17

Three, four games in. But you know they'll recover. If Montreal or if Pittsburgh don't have a good start, pretty sure they're not going to recover. Like, chances are they won't. You can always have some crazy redeeming gaming month or something like that. But all the same, it just becomes really hard. So I don't know. I don't know. I'm excited to see how this game goes because I think both teams could use a win. Nothing's must win at this point, but you know what I'm saying. Jari makes me sad. That's from Mich Fish. Mich, who spent a lot of time hanging out with us during the playoffs. Mich, are you a Pittsburgh fan? I Gripper Nation's Socks for Merch. You know, Jay, that's a really good idea. Why haven't we done that yet? Do we have socks that look like their feet? Do you know what I'm saying? And you could buy socks that look like feet, but they're really socks, but they look like feet. Or socks that look like my feet. We had 280 likes when you mentioned that, Adam. We already broke 300. Nice work, Well, listen, Gripper Nation shows up, okay? We're a new group.

01:09:36

We were really formed. We were forged in the fires of the playoffs last year, forged in the fires of the most boring payoff series anybody has ever seen. Vancouver versus Nashville, first round last year. And unless you're a Preds fan or a Knux fan or me, you didn't watch that series. It was boring. The next series was insane. Vancouver, Edmonton. I would go back and relive that week and a half of my life 10 times over. It was so much fun. Producer Hayden and I just had a ball. That was great. That was peak playoff, barn burner crazy drama performances. It was awesome. I already can't wait for the playoffs. I'm so excited. All right, 19:02 left in the second period. I'm going to do periodic time checks. So if you've never done this before, let me just introduce you to this. The fact is that we don't have rights to the games, but we do the sidecasts anyway, so we can watch along together. We're going to do this every single Monday night, all year long until the playoffs, when I'll take the Western conference, Steve will take the Eastern conference, so I'll be doing some later games and that thing.

01:10:38

All that is to say that from time to time, I'm going to give you an opportunity to sync your feed with my feed. So if you're watching on Prime, you can just click pause if I'm a little behind or click speed up, whatever it is. 18:26 left in the second period. Montreal fans are pissed because somebody got hooked. I didn't see who it was. Aller with a goal already. Montreal has had Keaton Gouly with a goal. And Gino Malkin with a beautiful setup to Ricard Raquel. I really like the second line for the Penguins. I don't really love the first line. But the first line has Crosby on it. So it's not a bad line. It could never be a bad line. And we got a penalty. Looks like the penguins are going, and it looks like it's Ryan Graves, who I just feel like deserves a trade somewhere. Sleekd. Sometimes when I read your usernames, guys, I'm not sure if you're... Like SleekD. Sleekd. You knew who that would come across, right? Sleekd Adam, long-time listener here. I have an idea for STPN. You guys doing a podcast, not a separate video. Scott Foster would be very cool.

01:11:58

Chicago, cool story. I have to admit, I don't know that story, or maybe I do know that story, and I need to be... I'll check it out. Meme Emperies, Bletch, Nashville Van was the worst series that round. Yeah, It was. Meme Emperies was there the whole time, too. Right, Mime? You were there. You were here with me every time. Cassie, Graves is useless. The thing is, Graves was not useless, but I just do not think he was ever fit for this team. I think Dubas is... Listen, nobody wants to have the conversation. We certainly didn't want to have the conversation this summer, but you have to ask yourself, maybe it's not Crosby, but does Chris Littang or does Evgeny Malkin or does Eric Carlson say at some point, Okay, guys, it's not looking like we're going to make the playoffs here. Could we work out a move? Oh, we got a goal. What a beautiful goal. That's Slevkowski. Nice little A goal set up there from Suzuki. Beautiful goal on the power play. Baby. I love that. Is that Natalie VIP ad free member for six months? I think that's my wife. Hi, Natalie. Everybody in the stream, say, Hi, Natalie.

01:13:17

Montreal just scored. So there's Suzuki on the end wall. Slavkowski behind the net. See, he outworks Patterson, gets to the front here. Puck goes out to the point, over to the other point. Suzuki Nuky, nice pass to Slavkowski. That play happens because Slavkowski puts Marcus Petterson on his ass. That's literally him just using his size to create space. When they talk about that with power forwards, that's what they're talking about. Another guy who used to be really good at that, mostly because he was angry, very angry all the time, Gino Malcolm. Very good at that at the height of his career. Oh, the chat saying, Hi, Natalie. I That's so nice. He's got that stuff he knows, but he's killing it. Thank you so much. I appreciate that. The Pens will do what the caps have done, aged out and injured. What's left to give? Dev, I think you got a good point. Again, I don't blame Dubis for where they're at. I blame Hexdall. And we almost had a goal there from Pittsburgh. Wow, that would have been quick. I blame Hexdall and Burke. I think that was a disastrous. What were you doing with the Jeff Carter signing, even though he was a fan favorite in Pittsburgh?

01:14:37

What are we doing? What are we doing? I think that it's unfortunate, but I do wonder with this Pittsburgh team, they're capped out. They don't have a ton of prospects. What do you do? They couldn't make any signings this summer because they capped out the previous summer. Jessie's Pizza Box. Oh, what's It's GM Jesse Blake's Pizza Box. Are you guys doing a Habs game as prep for your Montreal 2026 second-round pick party? Listen, I can't wait for our Montreal-Canadiens 2026 second-round pick party. That would be the pick that was included in the Patrick Lyonet trade that everybody was mad at me for forgetting about when we ran down the trade this summer. I am so ready. I'm going to be prepping for years for this, as you said, Jesse's Pizza Box. This is the start. Welcome to the start of my prep. Usually, I need a day or two to prep. Not this time. I need years. If Newhook had had his stick on the ground there, you might. I wonder if that would have gone in. Herbie Dock throwing somebody the ice. Ricardo Cal's playing with it, gives it away to Newhook. Newhook with the No, almost.

01:15:46

Armeya shot. There's Doc behind the net. There's a line with something to prove. New Hook, Doc, Armeya. Doc's coming back from injuries. New Hook still hasn't fully He blossomed into what they hoped he would be. Armeya, I think, is weird with Armeya because occasionally you're like, wow, that guy's the best player on the ice. And then other times, they're like, he's healthy, scratched. It's wild. Interesting. I want to watch... I want you to watch something when Montreal is in the offensive zone, which admittedly, they haven't been often. But when they are, watch for them to try to... That's Slavkowski goal, right? So it was right over to Suzuki into the back of the net. Sorry, it's from Suzuki, Slavkowski, back of the net. I think they're going to do the fake shot pass redirect which essentially was that power play goal a lot. By the way, we're on a face off right now. Ella is about to take it for Pittsburgh. We're at 15 minutes exactly left in the second period. So probably next whistle, we're going to a commercial break, and we can all sync up together. Adam is not using tape on your stick, your hottest take.

01:17:11

I'm going to say that I didn't say that I don't use tape. I do. But the idea that it somehow really changes things is a little bit... I think it's a mental thing more than it's a real thing. I don't doubt that it grips the buck a little bit, but the amount of painstaking effort that goes into it, I think, is just people trying to calm their nerves. Hey, listen, I've never played hockey in front of 18,000 people, so I have no idea what that pressure is Okay, so the poll is, who are you rooting for? Are you rooting for Montreal, or are you rooting for Cassie? Get Graves and Jarry off my team. I'm sorry, Cassie. You're rooting for Montreal, or are you rooting for Pittsburgh. And I accidentally closed the poll, so I won't be able to see the answers. But maybe Justin will text them to me if he loves me. If he doesn't, it's over. I didn't know this, Julian. Habs are undefeated at home this season. That's all right. If they win again tonight, I feel as though there might be some partying in the streets, and I don't know if I blame them.

01:18:37

Oh, Gally, with a nice shot. Jarry squared him up. That time, he was not in the middle of space like he was in the first goal. But here we go. Turn it around. Oh, jeez. Oh, my God. It was loose on the goal line. If Josh Anderson, Josh Anderson almost had just a gift. How did that How did that not go in? How did that not go in? Come on now. Oh, crazy. Justin says, Oh, wow, we've got almost even Pens and Habs fans in the chat tonight. Penguins fans voted 47 %. Penguins, Habs fans 52 %. And I'm assuming the extra one % is for margin of error. It's not a full 100 %, that's 99 %. Not a fan of either team, but always love the community in Adam's lives. Well, you know what? We do have a really good community. We have a good time here. I think we got a long way to go to the playoffs. Let's have some fun and hang out. And I don't narrate every second of the game, but I just like to... I want to sit down and have a chat with you, hang out.

01:19:55

Like we're in your basement. Having a beer. Smoking a joint. I don't know. Whatever you do. Reading the Bible. Whatever it is you do when you watch hockey. I should probably read more Bible when I watch the hockey because I sure do pray a lot. It's not worked out for me, though. Not going to lie. Montreal's had a really good start to the period. They just threw it up on the score bug there. But 6-1 are the shots for Montreal. Just as they get... I say that, and then Crosby goes, or no, it was Raquel that stripped. Can't tell if it's 87 or 67. This second line for the penguins, man, I really like it a lot. Crosby must be watching this going, What? He gets Ricard Raquel and Michael Bunting? And I got Bavillé. Sure he's a nice guy, but what? Here we go. All right, here we got. We don't have... Well, Meme empress says, We don't have basements in Florida. I Adam, what is your espresso libation of choice? Is it a drink? Like an alcohol drink? I would do a espresso Martini. I have a Nespresso machine at home. I like a couple of kinds of their coffee.

01:21:24

Roblox row hockey team. Welcome. I don't know who you guys are, but that's awesome that you have one. That's So sick. Jesse's comments on Connor Hellebuck aren't looking very true so far. Yeah, because he's nuts. So Jesse Blake, before the season started, I think it was one of our season previews. Like, Connor Halebuck. We almost have a goal. Oliver Kappinen. Damn. Jesse was like, There's no way Hellebuck does another 920 save percentage. I'm like, What? Now, full disclosure, he was partially doing that to challenge the city of Winnipeg, and partially because He knows it bothers me. Connor Halebuck is my favorite goalie in the entire NHL. So, yeah, I'm sure it... I just think he's the best freaking goalie of this generation. I think he's so amazing. Yeah, that's how I feel. I'm drinking. Jacquelyn K is drinking coffee right now. By the way, I can tell everybody who is a VIP member and who isn't. And if you are a VIP member, you're in green. I want to ask you guys, tell everybody who's in gray why they should be VIP members of the SDP. Sdp. It's the extra episodes. It's the ad freeze.

01:22:37

Guys, I'm telling you, it's the place. Hey, guys, you're coming to Nova Scotia for a live show. I know Steve is talking about going to Halifax for a book signing. I am dying to get back to Nova Scotia, as I'm very proud of. I lived there for a year, and I have never gotten over it, if that makes I love Nova Scotia beyond. Where was the other one here? Oh, yeah. Some people here are VIP members on Apple and Spotify as well. I don't want to leave you guys out because you guys are amazing as well. Vip is oddly entertaining. Thank you. Vip episodes are the best classic STP content. Cape Breton is a nice place. Yes, it is. I wish basements were possible in Florida, especially after last week. Well, no, they're not. It just can't happen. By the way, anybody here from Florida? I know that there are a few of you. I just want to say I hope that everybody's all right and things are going okay because, man, it's rough. That was rough what happened to you guys. Sdp is the best. The extra shows are awesome. Oh, that's so great.

01:23:50

Thanks, guys. It's amazing. So, yeah, listen, something to keep in mind. And maybe if you stick around MyStreams or SteveStreams, you may just end up getting yourself a free sub so you can try it out for free because people do sometimes gift those. Vip episodes are different than the standard. Yes, you can listen to the standard episodes, but ad-free if you get to a specific tier, or you can just buy the VIP episode. Essentially, it's a VIP episode. It's an extra episode. We don't even talk hockey in it. We do a whole bunch of other stuff. What the S2P used to be is It was like an hour of hockey and then an hour of pop culture. For anybody that's been listening that long, that's what we used to do all the time. Then as the show grew, and especially over the pandemic, I would say, we gained a lot of listeners, a lot, very quickly because nobody was producing any content. We got lucky enough, we still kept going. A lot of people discovered us, which was really cool. But the expectation from them was, You guys are a hockey show. Talk about hockey.

01:25:00

Then we added a third episode a week because we only used to do two, in order to add more pop culture to the show. Then we couldn't because there was so much going on in the NHL. We're like, Let's add a fourth. Let's make it VIP. It's a fun hangout. It's a fun episode. Oh, Good save. I still miss the purulator truck, the old SDPN mascot. We used to do the show in this backup studio at Bell Media, and no disrespect to Bell Media, but they hadn't put a dime into this studio for 15 years. Just trash, terrible studio. It just so happened that whenever we recorded, around that time of day, if we actually got the studio working, that's the thing we never talked about, was how bad it was. It was so painful to get that thing working properly. But when we did, we would be video recording in this purulator truck every time without fail, about an hour into the show, would show up and start dropping packages off. It became like... People were tagging it in the comments like, Oh, a pure liter truck arrives at 1 hour, 36 minutes. It's just crazy.

01:26:26

That was five years ago. People are making me sound like I'm an old man in the chat. It was five years ago, guys. It wasn't that long ago. Although five years is half a decade, and Everly was a baby. Man, can you believe that? I have a five and a half year old. 8:48 left in the second period. I have to say I really love Montreal's game Basically from minute 15 of the first period to now. They've been awesome. And this is the thing about this Montreal team. Oh, big hit. Oh, yeah. Puyarvi is going to have to fight after that. Yeah, that's I think that's a pretty obvious hit from behind. But let me see it again. That was a monster. So I've never known Puyarvi to have that much nastiness to his game. But that was a... He's a big boy, and it was a big hit. Yeah, that's from behind. Yeah, they're lucky Heinemann's okay. I can see if somebody's making the argument that Heinemann turned into it, I will grant you that. The fuck was there, I will grant you that. But it is on the guy making the hit to say, Do I need to destroy this guy's life, or can I just gently pin him?

01:27:49

You know what I'm saying? Do you know what I'm saying? Poojaarvi hasn't had this much to his game, period, for a long time. I agree. Chat, what stuff do... Oh, let me help this out. Vacant Alleyways wants to know, Chat, what stuff do I have to see or do when I go to Montreal next year for a game? Well, first off, I'm glad you're going for a game. I've been to Montreal for hockey, and I've been to Montreal for F1, and I've been to Montreal for the draft. And there's no bad season to see Montreal. It's beautiful in the winter. I'm sure it's beautiful in the fall with Mount Royal and all that. But Montreal in the summer is pretty special. So if you're not going in the summer, you got to see a game. You got to go to Schwartz's Deli, get yourself a sandwich. That's the best. What else we have, guys? I go to Shea Claudet for Poutine. Okay, I like that. Saint Vietil bagels. Romanos chicken is next level. This is the thing. They tell you in Montreal, it's like, Oh, man, you're going to Montreal, get ready to just eat.

01:29:03

It's such an eating place. It's eating paradise. Purolator needs to step up and sponsor you guys that you gave them all the free advertising. And Purolator would be like, Yeah, we got it for free. Why would we pay? Listen, I forget who it was that said they were going to Montreal. There is no No limit to the amount of fun that you can have there. It's just such a great city. It's amazing. And you know what? I would say this, same thing with Pittsburgh. I love Pittsburgh. My mom's from there, as you guys know. I am a half-American guy, and I would say that we very proudly... My mom was actually in Pittsburgh Saturday and Sunday this week. I'm not going back this year, but I was there last year and just had the best time. My wife saw it for the first time. And then we watched the Steelers get absolutely thumped by the 49ers, but the 49ers were pretty good last year, and the Steelers were... I feel like he could go to Montreal and come back 20 pounds heavier. Yes. Hey, it's Sadeen Magic15. I remember you. We hung out during the playoffs last year.

01:30:24

It's so great to see so many of you back. Gripper Nation, you've come in, and you're exciting and I love it. I love it. Now we got some fights happening in the chat section about who's got the best food in Montreal. All right. Stealthy gaming. Just got back from Montreal to see the home opener and the leaf score zero goals. Oh, no. You're a leaf fan and you went there? Oh, no. You must have taken a lot of shit leaving that building. That's just... By the way, it's the first time the leaves have been shut out in a home opener, I learned today on the show, since 1967. And the guy that opened the scoring for the Toronto Maple Heaps this season, former Habs captain, wearer of number 67 max Patcheready. And currently, the Leaps' points percentage is 6. This is a 0.667. So is the curse lifting? We shall have to find out. I grew up in Montreal, live in London. Was that the Stp Bowmanville show and Agent Provocateur? I don't know what the rest of it said, but thank you for coming. I should mention that Agent Provocateur is coming to London, January.

01:32:03

That's all I can tell you right now, but it's coming. As a long-time closeted Habs fan, what is your favorite restaurant? Oh, we just got in all this. You're going to have to scroll up. Sadeen Magic, 15. Oh, Adam, I'm glad you remember me. I'm truly touched. Glad we can be back with you. Can't wait to hang out every Monday. Me neither. There are so many familiar faces here, but I would like to know if anybody is new to Gripper Nation, put your hand up. Hey, I was a hater last season. Got therapy. Thanks, S TPN. No problem. I'm glad. Who's a new member? Put your hands up. Oh, here we go. Hold on, two on one. Scores. Oh, Heinemann, after that Pouilly-RV hit, puts the Montreal Canadiens up three to two. Man, He took an absolute crunch from Yasi Pouillardv, and it's him that scores. How amazing is that? What a goal. Wow. And you got the Montreal chant. Hey, That's the sick. It's one of the sickest chance. I think Montreal and Nashville have some of the best in arena engagement. I haven't been to Vegas yet. I'd really like to go to Vegas.

01:33:27

Who's new? Okay, everybody who's new, Listen, everybody that's new to the stream, okay? Introduce yourselves. We want to get to know you because we're going to be hanging out a lot. We're going to be hanging out a lot this year. Monday nights, baby. It's going to be you and me and Sdpn. Also, let's not forget Robert and Justin in the chat. Hayden, who's our producer tonight, who we love? If you come to Nova Scotia, I'll buy you the book below Steve. I forget what it's called. I appreciate that. Here we go. Adam, Amelie Arena has a Tesla coil, though. It does. It does. I like Amelie. It's fun. I love the Tiki bar outside. How cool is it that any time of the year, it's like, let's just go to the outdoor patio outside of the hockey game, and it's December. I think that's so sick. Hey, Nack, Newbie from Orlando. Welcome, Nack. Hi, I'm Tommy. And feet gross me out. Welcome to Grouffer Nation, Tommy. We get pedicures here. We look after our feet. Foot health, it's important. Kerbal, finish studying my midterms tomorrow. I'm happy to be here with you guys. Hey, thanks for joining us.

01:34:47

I love how many people from Florida we have. This is neat. Who else is new? Who else is new? We got some crowd people in the chat. Shout out. As someone who also works in broadcast, how do you feel about the Amazon production? It's actually look pretty flawless to me. I haven't seen a lot of the panel stuff because I've been here talking to you guys. But what I really like about what Amazon is doing this year, and you guys can look out for this, Gripper Nation, is every single week, they're going to a different location. They don't have a studio. They're in the arena. I think that's so much better than these big studio shows. I know people like to do them. They're controlled environments, blah, blah, blah. I feel like if you're a broadcaster, How can you possibly capture the excitement of the game? Although Steve's really good at it with his leaf streams. How can you possibly really capture the essence of the game if you're a rights holder without being there? This is why it's so sad when they don't send play by play people on the road. It's just you need to be there to properly convey what's going on.

01:35:52

I have to say hats off to Amazon for that because it's more expensive to send a bunch of people on the road every week and do that. But I think if you... Here's the deal. Hockey Night in Canada in the '70s and '80s was not done in a studio. Coach's Corner originally was not done in a studio. It was done at the rink. They used to have the broadcast crew, the hosts, whatever. They would do it at the old Forum in Montreal. They'd do it at Maple Leap Gardens. They'd do it... I forget what Edmonton's first arena was called. They used to do it at the Calgary, it's 5,000 seats. The Corral, Stanby Corral. If you're Calgary and you know what I'm talking about. They used to do these in the arena. And I think that it's cool that Amazon is bringing that back because I think we need more of that. Newbie from Hamilton been listening for a while, but never caught a Gripper Nation stream. Well, Nathan, welcome to Gripper Nation. You are now officially a member. Hey, Caleb Wilson. I am from Columbus. Please say something nice about the Columbus Blue Jackets.

01:36:58

Here's one, Caleb. The You've got Ken Johnson, you've got David Urachek, you've got Adam Fantilly. There are more people than that, but I can't remember them all right now. I have to say, I think the future is really bright with a guy. If you look at Don Wadel's history, your new general manager is a G. He is a straight-up G. He's awesome. You look at the system he put together in Carolina. The thing about Don Wadel, there'll be people that detract from this guy, and they'll be like, Oh, well, he's not the guy making making all the player personnel decisions in Carolina. A lot of that's Eric Tulsky and other people. While that might be true, who hired Eric Tulsky? Sometimes the best leaders are the ones that hire the best people, the smartest people. They surround themselves with the smartest people. They don't have to be the smartest person. They just have to manage and surround themselves with. And you look at the system they put together in Carolina, I think Columbus is going to look a lot like that in five years. I think they need to figure out if Elvis Merzlican is a mirage or if he's real.

01:38:02

Honestly, if Columbus field gets nothing out of this year other than the young guys take a step forward and you know what you have with Merzlican or what you don't have, half the battle. I think they need a goalie. I don't think Merzlican is for real. It's my opinion. Could be wrong. I think that he and Corposala, when they had their years, were propped up by great defensive teams that Torterelle used to put together. I think they need a goalie, and I think they need some scoring up front, obviously. I think they need the young guys to take a step forward. But you figure out your goal-tending situation, young guys take a step forward, Columbus will be fine. It's going to be another three years. I think it's maybe two years before they make the playoffs if they go in the right direction quickly. It's not going to be easy, but I think they're in a division they can do it. Jesse's Pizza Box. Can you explain the process for Jesse to get credentials for the Leaps? I can, But I would rather you hear it. Oh, we got a goal. Hang on, I'll be back.

01:39:05

So that's Lars Zeller with his second goal. Is that from Bunting? Wow, Lars Zeller having a night. Does anyone have him in fantasy? Okay, here comes Zeller. There's three Canadians on him, and he walks around. Okay. Okay, Slav, I got to be honest. Slav Slivkowski. That's a rookie winger trying to play defense. That was not good. But the other two guys weren't great either. But Slivkowski had the angle on him. He needed to lean into him. Look at me. Played single-lay hockey telling Slivkowski how to play. So you wanted to know how we got credentialed. So the full story is on today's SDP that's going to release probably after this game. So I don't I want to blow it for you. 3:24 left in the second period, by the way, if you're aligning your stream with mine. But it's really good. It's a good little story. I don't know if it's really good. It's not like an A plus story, but it's cool. Cassie, five gifted members Thank you, Cassie. Thank you, Cassie. So the second time he goes top left on Montemble, maybe the book's out on Montemble's Gloveside to see if they try that again.

01:40:36

Man. Yeah. To everybody that's new to the chat, by the way, we're grippers involved. Grippers are always involved, guys. Can't go anywhere without them. I can't believe how quickly this period passed, by the way. I'm really shocked. This is so much fun. I missed this so much. In the playoffs, like I told you, we're going to be on every other night, so it's going to be wild. We're building up towards that. It's road to the playoff's time, Gripper Nation, and we got a long way to go. Slow high glove on Monte Ball. Yeah, no kidding. Hey, Adam, I'm from Ottawa. Say something nice about the senators. Well, there's a lot to say. A lot of good. But I'll start with this. Isn't it the difference? What a crazy difference 365 days can make. This time last year, Michael Ann Lauer was knee deep in an investigation into Shane Pinto and why he lost his first round draft pick because the NHL fined him for a trade that happened when he wasn't even the owner. Now, they've got Lena Solmark signed to a nice fat extension, and they've got a player base where the vibes are good.

01:41:48

I mean, listen, did they win an 8-7 game today? And is that bonkers? Yeah, but it's early season. Josh Norris looks healthy. That's four or five things right there. There's lots to be excited about in Ottawa. The road to the gripper cup. Man, can we make that a thing? Tyson, you might be on to something. Rob Malloy brings up something important in the chat, guys. Donate to Rachel's Riders. Any donation enters you to win a leafs oilers tickets or tickets to do the leafs oilers. That's with Easter Seals. That can be me, Jessie, or Steve, or anybody on the Rachel's Riders' roster. You will be in the draw. Sorry, Hayden, say that again. Oh, and producer Hayden is on the team as well. He's our Ringer. He's in there to score goals for us. Bk, Hey, Adam. I'm from Pittsburgh. Say something nice about the Leaps. Oh, man, there's lots What's the thing to say about the leaves. I'm just going to say this, Chris Tanev. I'll say something else. I'll say Oliver Eckman-Larce. And I just want to say, if you go back and you watch our season preview about the leaves, I may have said that those guys are going to be bigger difference than people are giving them credit for.

01:43:02

Have you not seen that through the first three games? It's been pretty big. It's pretty big. Here we go. This has been a very entertaining game. I think we've already had more goals in this game than we had in the entire Vancouver-Nashville series, round one last year. Holy moly. We got 32 seconds left to go here on the clock. On this, the inaugural broadcast of Amazon Prime Monday Night Hockey. But that's not us. We're Sdpn Adam Wilde, watch it long streams. We could work on that title. I don't know what the name is. The name on YouTube is Pittsburgh Penguins at Montreal Canadiens Live with Adam Wilde. Well, there you go. There you go. That's me. Now, listen, anybody that's new to this, I want to let you know how the intermission where she goes, okay? We're going to play a quick clip here. Like the stream where the grippers get it. Oh, no, Tobi. Don't be threatening people. Labutsky, I'm from Detroit. Say something nice about Luxembourg. Luxembourg. Luxembourg has given birth to one of the biggest team principals in Formula One. Mike crack of Aston Martin Formula One team. He is the head team principal, and he was on Nailing the Apex with me and Tim last week, and he was very kind and funny, and you could tell he's a genius.

01:44:39

You should check that out. You should check it out. Shameless plug? Absolutely. Absolutely. So here's what we're going to do. We're going to have a little bit of a moment here. We're going to play a clip from the SDP for the intermission. I'm going to take a break. I'm going to get a coffee, and we're going to get fired up for the third period. So we join our Monday night, Gripper Nation. And to everybody that's new, I will be back. We're just going to play content from the shows that you already like, hopefully. And we're going to come right back. Gripper Nation, I love you. It's so nice to be back. When you look at that, when you look at that number, for what this guy brings, perennial Vesna guy. I can understand in the leaf situation, you got two guys that are unproven. You're not going to pay a lot of money for that. Perennial Vesna for the last half decade.

01:45:27

Swayman just got eight and a quarter, and he hasn't He's been a starter for a full season yet. Yeah. I mean, Jesper Walsh got $2.2 million yesterday. You know how many NHL games he's played?

01:45:39

How many? Three. Jeremy Swayman has started 125 games total. I'm just looking up Igor's stats just for that. Just for that. And Igor has started 208. But I'll tell you this, the numbers are sparkling. They're crazy. In the last three years, he's up over 50 games each Two appearances in the conference final.

01:46:02

I think the one thing that happened in the most recent memory is Serge Borowski, who the stat everybody loves to yell at least fans when somebody hosts the Stanley Cup is that- 67.

01:46:15

Nobody ever with a double- It was three-one.

01:46:19

It was four-one.

01:46:20

Steve, let him...

01:46:21

Nobody ever with a double-digit player on the roster has ever hosted Stanley Cup. Then it happened with Jack Eichel in Vegas when they did it. Then this past season, we saw the first team ever with a double-digit goal tender, host the Stanley Cup. You think about how important Brovrowski was to that entire playoff run and how it didn't matter that over the last few years, he's lost his job and then got it back and then lost it and then got it back a few different times. When the push came to shove during the playoff, it was the most important thing to have Brovrowski, and they still managed to build a team around him. It wasn't like he hamstrung their salary cap and they couldn't do anything else. They still built a Stanley Cup winning team.

01:46:57

Also, I mean, Kutra Krav and Vasilevski winning back-to-back cups 9.5 each.

01:47:04

Yeah, but if you're putting a bar on the actual double digit number, you got to cut it off somewhere. Yes, I agree. If you just keep scaling back the number, then you just get to any number. That's why I put the bar.

01:47:14

You know what, Lee, You know what?

01:47:16

But how many career games-Massileski is a great example as well.

01:47:18

Well, to Jesse's point about not rounding up, how many career games does Mike Modano have?

01:47:23

1,499.

01:47:24

Not 1,500, right? And to that point-Vasilevski adds to the argument.

01:47:29

Thank you.

01:47:30

Agreed. I think, obviously, the Rangers are about to go through a mega shift. What I love about this is this is a confluence of events that work so much in Igor's favor. You're talking about UFA, you're talking about crazy numbers, you're talking about double conference final appearances in the last three years, but also you're talking about, and Jesse mentioned this in the season preview, this is a last dance team. After this year, you're going to have a lot of change in New York.

01:47:56

They're going to be fine. They're going to be fine. Going forward, but they do have to The one thing that can be the sure thing that you can absolutely build around, you've got some great young RFAs, and I get that.

01:48:08

Nobody is on Igor's level. If you could solidify that position, Everything else can fall into place afterwards.

01:48:17

He has a lot of leverage here. I mean, Jesse, you have them winning the Metro?

01:48:23

No, I have New Jersey winning the Metro.

01:48:24

But first or second.

01:48:25

First or second, yeah.

01:48:26

They're coming off a President's Trovey win. They went to the conference final. We We easily see them at least back there.

01:48:31

I picked them to win the Stanley Cup.

01:48:33

Put it this way, his number is not going down. You offered me 88 million in October? Oh, all right. Okay, we'll be back. We'll let you know what we think.

01:48:48

The follow-up to Kevin Weekes' report that he turned down the eight years by 11 million was from Cam Robinson, who said that Igor wanted less years, and that might have the sticking point on the contract, not the $11 million in that he wanted more. It might be that he wants 11 by five. Because he's smart. And the rangers want him for the eight years that he wants 11 by five.

01:49:11

If he wants 11 by five, you Sign that before he realizes how dumb that is.

01:49:19

Well, because goal-tending is a tricky position. How old is Igor Shesterken? He is right now 28. Yeah, there you go. I think you sign an eight-year deal if you're 28. If you're 25 and you're Swayman, it's funny that Shesterken wants the shorter deal, Swayman wanted the longer one. If I were them and I was looking at it just for me and not being an athlete or whatever, never being in that position, I would switch it around. I think- Have I Swayman- You sign five and take your chances as the Rangers. Well, I think absolutely you do. With Shosturkin, though, I look at that and I go, Why do you not want the eight years? It's likely because he knows that over the next five years, the cap is probably going to go up about $20 million, and he could be leaving $10 or $15 million on the table. However, if for whatever reason, injury, anything else can happen, especially into your early 30s, slow down in performance, it may not even end up mattering. I can understand why New York wants the full eight years because they want some cost certainty there as well. I mean, it's cost-certainty, it's expensive, but at the end of the day, I think it benefits both sides to go eight years here, whereas Swayman, I would have been like, I do three or four.

01:50:30

Here's the tweet from Cam Robinson, just so we get it out there. Pigybacking on Kevin Weekes' post on Shisterken, I was told recently that Igor may be more keen on a shorter term deal. Five years, question mark. If New York wants eight years, they have to seriously break the bank.

01:50:48

Oh, man. Oh, man. Because that's going to be, let's say, the number's 13, right?

01:50:54

So he's got to go-For the eight years? Oh, my God.

01:50:57

Well, if it's 11 for five, right? So let's arbitrarily throw 13 out. Boy, it's going to be 36 or whatever, I think. Yeah, 36. Making 13 mil.

01:51:11

There's ways to get around that.

01:51:14

You're a groin injury or a knee injury. Then it doesn't cost you anything. Yeah, it's the rangers money.

01:51:23

Cary Price is just sitting around.

01:51:25

No, but there are players who find themselves in the not injured enough category where they're just bad. They're playing, they're just not what they used to be.

01:51:36

I think that's eight years from now's problem. What if we got a Stanley Cup? What if we got one in that window? I don't care.

01:51:43

Listen, You lock this guy up, you 100% lock him up. But I think if he wants five, you give him five. You don't worry about the eight.

01:51:50

If you look at it, too, you don't worry about the eight. You're absolutely right. If it costs a disgusting amount to go to eight years, then just don't do it. But I would say he's doing the rangers a favor by going five years. I really do. I think so. And I look at- Their window is going to be at least five years. Well, I don't know. I actually don't know what next summer looks like for New York. It doesn't mean they're not going to be good. I have to look at their prospect pipeline, which I don't have in front of me, that thing. But I would say that there are some potential big veteran pieces moving on here. And when you look at, oh, my God, she's sterking at $11 million. That would be crazy. Listen, He's going to be the only guy making that. What's going to be easy for the Rangers is filling out the rest of the roster. Problem with Toronto, to bring it back to us because it always does, is now we've got four guys making over 11. It's too much. That becomes comes, that's where you find some roster issues and you have to sign Tanev to a much longer term than you perhaps wanted to keep the AAV down.

01:52:53

You lose out on a guy like Matt Roy. Careful. Matt Roy, who, if you'd been able to kick in another quarter million, you probably would have had.

01:53:01

We're getting into, how does this affect the least territory?

01:53:03

But I'm giving the best comparable that I can, which is teams with over $11 million on the book. The only other teams that have that, it's Colorado, Wait, with what? Who's got more than $11 million wrapped up in a player?

01:53:20

Oh, in one player? Yeah. Colorado. Edmonton has two. Yeah. Or no, they don't have two.

01:53:25

They don't because Leon has two. Yeah.

01:53:28

It's not a very It's not huge, right?

01:53:31

No. I don't know. I look at this and go, Okay, if you're the Rangers, just take the five years, get it signed. Happy dance, go into the school. And you're the Rangers. And he's also still making five million this year or 5.5. Which is stupid.

01:53:42

That's a crazy deal. But You're the Rangers. You're always going to... You don't have to worry as much as some other teams in this league about attracting free agents, and you're definitely not going to have to worry about the cap space to do it. Panarin is going to age out of his deal, and That frees up 11.6 million.

01:54:03

Which I think he's been pretty good on that contract.

01:54:06

Yeah, his playoffs have been come see, come saw. But they're going to have to turn over the core. If they're lucky, they'll be able to do something like what Dallas has done, where they had Bawelski for a while. He obviously just retired. Sagan, Ben, those were their big money core guys, and now they've been replaced by Hints and Robertson.

01:54:32

And you're expecting the next generation. There's another wave.

01:54:35

They have three generations, well, as athletes go, of guys, and they're all still there. It's not like they've left Except for Pavelski. So I think that's what the Rangers, if everything goes well, could expect.

01:54:52

Yeah, I think you're going to see a Jake Truba trade this out. I think, too-There's another one. The fact that this is out there tells me That they're talking a lot.

01:55:01

I think it gets done.

01:55:02

I think it gets done pretty- I think it needs to get done before trade deadline. Because if you're the Rangers, you need to know. I think you need to know how for it are we going to be and how much is next year going to cost. If we are acquiring somebody. What's it going to cost to keep them? What's the acquisition cost? I wouldn't be overly shocked if we wake up tomorrow morning and there's a deal. Well, actually, you know what?

01:55:25

Precedent with Swayman. Oh, this is going to go to December first, which means it's happening in two days.

01:55:30

To be honest, I think it'll happen as soon as Jesse drops the show this afternoon. Oh, shoot.

01:55:34

No, that's way too quick.

01:55:37

That's way too quick. Yeah, it's just the way it goes.

01:55:40

All right, welcome to Greta.

01:55:41

We have breaking news. You guys want the most fun stat on all of this since we're talking about goal tending.

01:55:45

I know you love this.

01:55:47

Since 2005, the 2005-2006 season, either Igor Shesterken or Henrik Lundquist has started at least 30 games for the New York I hate it.

01:56:02

Go away. You know?

01:56:05

Isn't that crazy?

01:56:06

Okay. What?

01:56:10

Since when? 2005, 2006. I shouldn't say started, played either at least 30 games for the New York Rangers.

01:56:19

So every season since Ovechkin and Crosby joined the NHL, the Rangers have had had a top five goalie of their generation in their lineup.

01:56:33

In their lineup for at least 30 games.

01:56:35

How they ever missed the playoffs in that time is shocking. They did have some shocking with that team.

01:56:39

You remember the letter?

01:56:41

Oh, I remember the letter.

01:56:42

The letter was a big deal on this show when it came out about how they're going to rebuild, and they did it super quick.

01:56:47

They've been on a bunch of runs. They haven't gotten it done, but they've been on a bunch of runs. It's not for lack of What is up?

01:57:03

What is up? Sorry. Got out of the bathroom late. Not going to lie. Had to run for a quick peak. I just rather be honest. I know I'm live. I know. Hayden He's like, You're live. You're live. I'm like, Yeah, I know. That's fine. I'm just being honest. So anyway, hi there. Listen, the game is going to start again here soon. Hayden's losing his mind here. I feel like he didn't know. I'm just kidding, Hayden. Hey, can we get over 400 likes? Can we do that? Is that possible? We're at 390, 391 now. Can we get 400? Hayden, have you liked this, producer Hayden? I don't think you have, have you? His silence is deafening. All right, so how... Yeah, see? P break. Sometimes you got to take a P break. You guys know. The New York Rangers have really given us a lot on content through letters. Yes, they have. Happy Thanksgiving, Sdpn. Thank you so much. You don't have to be a least fan to love this channel. I am a Kings fan who lives in Shark territory, but I listen to the podcast religiously. They are serious about hockey without being born.

01:58:19

Well, I appreciate that. Jani, how are you all? It's 4:28 AM in Finland, L-O-L. Jani, I love it. I love that you're here. How are you awake right now? How are you even possibly doing this? I used to have to wake up that early, and I hated it. I hated it. I much prefer a late night like this. This is way more fun and intimate, and we get to hang out and talk and watch your favorite game. I don't think it much better than that. I'm just watching the Amazon feed. I have to say, It gets done pretty well. They look like they're doing a pretty darn good broadcast here. I'm excited. It makes me feel a little bit of new blood injected into NHL broadcast here in Canada. In the States, you guys just got yourselves TNT and ESPN, and I know there's some complaints about whatever. No, no, no. Broadcast is going to be perfect. But let me tell you this. We've had about 10 or 11 years of the It's not that anybody's bad, but I think it's always good to have a third competitor in there just to bring... Because if everybody feels a little bit on edge, if you get too comfortable, there's two competitors, sometimes both sides can go, We're okay.

01:59:44

But now with Prime, at least this is how I think as an on-air person, I'm uber competitive. I want to be the absolute best on-air person I can be and make whatever broadcast I'm on the best one. I think now this will just be a little bit of Like a jolt. Anyway, show us your grippers. Buffy, you are not getting grippers yet. We are not near... Listen, the last time we gave grippers, it was a thousand likes. I just don't know. It's a Monday night in October with two non-playoff teams. I don't know if we're getting to a thousand likes tonight, and I'm okay with that. Gripper Nation, we start slow, but we're always passionate, and we'll just continue to grow. Gripper Nation is going to be three the size come the end of the season. I know that. I know that. And there's lots and lots and lots of return Gripper Nation people, and there's lots of new people. Yoni Haavisto. So is the NHL having new broadcast deals done after this year. I would think that you're going to hear information on the National Rights deal in Canada, if you care as much, which currently belongs to Sportsnet, which they sold one of the days to Amazon, as you're seeing right now.

02:01:02

I think you're probably going to know, I would say by mid next season at the latest, but my bet is next summer, we find out for sure. And I think it is going to be Amazon. That's just my bet. Hello. Just hear from the rooftops in Florida to yell from the rooftops that the Florida Panthers are still awake, and good night. Yo, fair enough. How did that game end with Boston today? Who won? I didn't get to watch it because we were doing the Oh, Florida won again. Hey, listen, the only team Florida has beaten this year are the Boston Bruins, and I'm here for it. Please more of that. How did Gripper Nation get started? Shantel, it's a good question. How did we start, Hayden? Do you remember? What was the fee thing? Oh, I know how. I remember. It was in Montreal. It was a... Jesse has this thing on his stream, it's the Crab People. You might be a member of the Crab People currently. It's from the South Park, though, Crab People, because he's got the Hotkeys, which I'm actually going to schedule. I'm going to get some Hotkeys this year.

02:02:13

I'm going to make some really cool Gripper Nation Hotkeys. You're just going to have to tune in every Monday and see this broadcast of ours get bigger and better. I would say that... Anyway, long story short, The Gripper Nation thing happened because Jesse was talking to the Crab people on this live stream we were doing. And Steve was still working with Sportsnet. So he was doing a live stream with Kolby Armstrong at the draft, so he wasn't on ours. And I thought it would be hilarious to be like, Well, Jessie's got his group, and Steve's got his group. Well, I got my group, too. Have you heard of the feed people? The feed people. And then I would be like, Whoa. Then people started to jump on. They're like, Yeah, no, I'm a member of the feed people, whatever. And then it became Gripper Nation, which is what you know today. Humble beginnings. Anybody who has played Oregon Trail knows that wagons break all the time. Watch yourself, Panthers. That's from J Rock. Nothing will top when Gripper Nation hit a thousand likes for the first time. Aaron, it was a beautiful day when it happened, but yes, we will.

02:03:29

That is not That is not the peak. That is not the finacle. That is only the beginning, my friend. And this is a relaxed game. We're enjoying this one. Robert Malloy, I simply can't believe you said, Defeat people. Well, that's who we were. Canux are in Florida. It should be interesting. That'll be good. I'm excited for that matchup. 1942 left in the third period. Guys, this game is just blowing by. I can't believe it. Here we are. First lines for both teams are out. Honestly, if it wasn't for Sydney Crosby, there's no way this could be the first line for any NHL team. I just simply can't with this first line. Kyle, go make a trade. Get Sid some line mates. Oh, we almost had a goal from Caulfield there, too. Jari was deep in his net, but he was able to find position on David, Samuel, Adam, please give us the, This will upset everyone, hot take of your 2024, 2025 season. Who will be upset? You know what? I was full of those takes last year, and I specifically, and Penz fans, all my Penquins fans here in the chat know this. I went hard at the penguins, and it really was going hard at Dubas.

02:05:00

Like, what's the plan here? And my big upsetting take was that I didn't think they were going to make the playoffs, and everybody's like, That's insane. And then they didn't make the playoffs. I don't know this year what unpredictable... I don't feel like I have a read on that the same way that I did last year. I'm looking at the West, and the teams are remarkably similar in their layout, with the exception of the Nashville Predators, who I expect to be a top three or four team in their conference. Everybody else is still good or still bad. The Metropolitan is much better than it was last year. The Atlantic is... I don't think anybody He's very good. Here, don't me to bother you. Detroit's not making the freaking playoffs, guys. Sorry. Don't believe it. And you can clip this and throw it in my face when they do, because I will root for them. I think the league is better when Detroit is winning. Or at least competitive. And I just don't know what the plan is there. So they're my team that much like Pittsburgh last year, I go, what's the goal here, guys?

02:06:09

I know the goal is the cup, but how? Haven't seen it. When does the next pod drop, footman? Well, Leighton, should be a little later this afternoon. The takes will come. Adam never starts the season, ripping Nashville, but always does by the end. I From the get-go, last year, I was hard on the penguins. But so were their fans. Like, oh, there's Lar Zeller, two goals and a penalty. If he can drop a fight in there. Oh, wow. That was a vintage Larseller elbow. That's vintage. I know that they call that interference, but that's vintage Lars. Year 14 of Buffalo not making the playoffs. I mean, yeah, I don't think Detroit not making is too hot. You're right. I don't know. Here's the thing. If it was a hot take like, oh, man, New Jersey is going to suck again this year, they're not. But I don't have the same hot takes this year that's going to make everybody mad just yet. I still think that everybody... The NHL has not changed that much over the course of the summer. There hasn't been the Earth-shattering trade that it's like, oh, my God, that makes one team and breaks another.

02:07:34

Haven't seen that yet. Austinomia, no. Okay, how about those flames? Man, how about that noted Alan Walsh client, Jonathan Huberto, leading the flames? Love that. Love that for him. Yeah, man. I don't know. I am not hot on the Flames. I don't think they're going anywhere. There other than to the basement where they should be so they can draft some really great players and be good in a few years when their new arena is built. But it's fun for them not to suck, and it's fun for them not to be talking about every weekend selling off, Oh, who's the next best guy on the roster that we can sell off? That's always sad when you're seeing good players leave. So, yeah, I would say that it's time. Austin Domino, is that what it is? Well, Meme empress, I can't read. I called you Meme Express for how many months? Daniel Dosa, Pavelski retired. That changes Dallas's lineup quite a bit. Daniel, see, I don't think so because you got Stankovan and Wyatt Johnson and all those guys coming in. I think they're going to be fine. Pavelski had 67 points last year. He was really good.

02:08:46

And he's a spectacular player, and you, of course, you're going to miss him. But I think the reason he retired is because it was time. They had other players. Oh, Oh, New Hook. Oh, I think New Hook just slashed Jarry in the face by accident. Producer Hayden is in my ear going, That's a flop. That's a flop. Now, he's fine. What happened there? I thought it was to the face, and then he was grabbing his hand. So let's see what... So Lane Hudson with the breakout here. I love that they're showing this replay. Man, Lane Hudson's explosive. He almost scored there. So then here's a new hook. Oh, yeah. So it's an accidental. Right to the mouth. That's not fun. That's not fun. That's not a dive. Hayden, don't be so mean, okay? By the way, Hayden is a Minnesota Wild fan. Okay, so Hayden's big hot take is that the Minnesota Wild make the playoffs. I like their system, and I like what doing. If you want to see another good interview, we did an interview with Bill Garen last year, right before the trade deadline on Agent Provocateur, and I think you would really, really like that.

02:10:10

It's a great... It's a really fun interview. One of the things that I was talking to him about, or I asked him about, was that morning, he had a picture taken of him on the phone at practice. I was like, Were you making a trade? He's like, This might surprise some people, but I do have a social life and a family as well. I think he was taking a phone call from his wife. Already very much noticing Pavelski's absence on the power play. Okay, well, Lacy, I know that you are a huge Stars fan. I have not. Of course, it's going to take time to adjust for Pavelski. My point is that I believe that Dallas will be okay. It's not like they don't have the horses. They've drafted so well, and they're on to their third generation of really good guys. I don't know. I really like what Dallas has done. I think it's more out of a respect for Dallas and the system and the players and all the things that they've done right rather than, say, Pavelski not being good or whatever. He was very good last year. I think that they'll adjust.

02:11:21

It's the first three games. But I have not caught a stars game yet. So maybe that's something to put on the docket. I was thinking, too. I don't You know how many of you guys want to think about this. Liam McGinty, Minnesota has a hockey team? That was for Aiden. Now, careful, Liam. He's threatening to ban you from the chat now. I do want to say that... What was I going to say? This is where the... Can I tell you a story? Just on the side. So I was at the event last week that we put on down downtown in Toronto, which was awesome, by the way. This bar, Greta, is like a big arcade bar, and it's in an old factory, and it's like post and beam and beautiful and TV is everywhere. It was a perfect spot for us to do a live show. Somebody comes up to me, and they have Steve's book in hand, and Steve's just signed it, and they're very excited. They want to take a picture and whatever. And it was so cool. And from the most caring of places you can imagine. I really want to say this before I tell you what he said.

02:12:30

This guy cared. He was like, I was his friend, and I felt really warm when he said this. But he said, Adam, so do you have ADHD? And I was like, Probably, but I don't know. I've never been tested for it. So when we're on these streams, bear with me because I do lose the thread from time to time. And that's why it's interesting because a lot of this is off the cuff. And we're talking, we're going back and forth and whatever. And sometimes I don't finish a story or a goal is scored or something happens and I don't get to finish it. It is because that is how my brain works. I don't have a great memory, but please love me for who I am and not for who I want to be. Bunting. Oh, my God. See, here's the thing. Bunting had zero time to make a move there. He had to just throw the buck on Mountembo. He couldn't even get it up. I would imagine that if he had a couple extra feet there, he could have pulled it to the left and gone glove-side backhand. But there's 12:50 88 left in the third period.

02:13:47

Some of us are crab people. Some of us are gripper nation. All of us are ADHD. I love that. Luke, I've got ADHD. Game recognize. Hey, check out that squirrel. I like that, man. I like that. I don't know if that is or not, but I don't know if I actually have it. Jack, who I do some stuff with on social media. She was my co-host there. She has gotten tested and she has it. She said it's the absolute greatest thing that she at least his nose now. And so here's an interesting one, Chris. Chris Ripley said, I found out I had ADHD after my wife made a comment that it's weird that coffee puts me to sleep. Chris, I'm having a coffee, and I'm going to go home, and I'm going to sleep like a baby. Why? Why is that? Is that an ADHD thing? Anyway. I'd be happy to know. I don't know stuff. What do we got here? There was a comment up there. There it is. Tamara Sutherland. Hey, Tamara. It's been nice to listen to this. It's good background noise as I work on a painting. I enjoy the play off streams when not going to my local pub here in Edmonton to watch the oilers games.

02:15:20

Well, Tamara, first off, jealous. Jealous of the fact that you have seen your NHL team in the finals ever, let alone a game seven. I'm sorry, it didn't work out, but still, that had to be very exciting. Secondly, let me just say that we're thrilled to have you back. It's nice to have Gripper Nation all back together. Big old reunion party. Novocon says, When I was younger, I thought It was 80, the number HD. That's what it should be. I've been told to check my phone. Oh, wow. Okay, so at the end of Hold on. Justin has been texting me all night, and I've been ignoring his text. Justin wants to know what my very first concert was. Justin's first concert was Smash Mouth, who were opening for Lenny Kravitz. Okay, you ready for my first concert, guys? My first concert was Garth Brooks. Yes, the first artist that I ever really loved. Well, it's two. I loved the Beach Boys when I was a kid. Loved Garth Brooks. Garth Brooks was my first one. It was at Skydome here in Toronto. Just throwing that out there. Then Justin ran a poll just before the chat started for the third period.

02:16:44

The game's tied up. Oh, we got a goal. Kevin Hayes. Hey, that was the guy we talked about. Can he find his game in Pittsburgh? This is what we're saying. This is what we need. Good for him. Good for Hayesy. Wow. We got to tag him. So right before the period, Justin asked you on the chat, Hey, who do you think has this? Who's going to win? Montreal or Pittsburgh? And it was exactly 50/50 in the votes. Exactly 50/50. Exactly. That's nuts. Well, I guess the Pittsburgh people are feeling a little bit better about it right now. My first concert was Hilary Duff in the early 2000s. Shantel, did she do, Let's do it love, love, Love, love, love. The TikTok dance. How does that... It's like, what's the thing? And she does the thing, and it's terrible. I got to waste of tickets yesterday. Luke, I'm curious about how much you paid for them because in Toronto, Hayden was saying that his buddy paid $7.50. Oh, do we have another goal here? No, there's Bavillier. Hayden says his first concert Canadian Legends, Barenaked Ladies. Great Harmonies. My first concert was Brian Adams with both my parents.

02:18:06

That's from jazz. First concert was Night Wish. I don't know if I've heard of Night Wish. Adam, do you love Chris Gaines also? Chris Gaines, Garth Brooks's Alter Ego. Garth Brooks was so big, guys. In the '90s, he put out an album under a completely different name because it was his Alter Ego. It was a bad album. Nobody liked to Chris Gaines. Nobody. Caulfield Slivkowski. Okay, so you're going to... I'm curious how the Penguins defend this lead because it looks like they're going to try to clog the shooting lanes and keep Montreal to the outside. I just don't know if they've got the personnel to do it when Montreal's top line is out there. Although I have to say the new hook line is pretty good or looks good tonight. I don't know that... Montreal doesn't have overwhelming firepower outside of that top line unless Kirby Doc is finally healthy and establishes himself as a 65, 70 point guy. So it'll be interesting to see how they do that. And they're definitely going to try to line match Slopkowski, even though they don't have home ice. Cassie, by the way, giving away another five subscriptions.

02:19:17

I believe that is for everybody that every time the Penguin score, Cassie is a huge Penguin fan. And Cassie, we appreciate your love and support. You're the best. Angie gray, first concert, Glass Tiger, 1989 in Victoria, BC. Don't forget me when I'm gone. First concert was Rush in 2007. I think I was at that tour. I worked for Journey in the early '80s. Deb, what? What did you do for Journey? Get out. Elton John in Vancouver was mine. Third Eye Blind was my first concert. Low key song, Jumper. What a great tune. I know everybody talks about the other one. Jumper is where it's at. Our Lady Peace in Halifax, First concert was Chicago in Vegas, the band Chicago. Underrated band. Outstanding music. You have great... Edgar Winter. You saw Edgar Winter in 1977. Supertramp at 1979 in Montreal. Oh, my God. Wow. First concert was Tom Cochrane and Red Ryder opening for Glass Tiger. Oh, my God. Hey, that first Red Ryder album is... It's so good. Tom Tom Cochrane is underrated, man. He's so good. The Distillers in the Bert in Winnipeg. I have not spent enough time in Winnipeg in my life.

02:20:40

If we ever come to Winnipeg, I would really love a good tour of the fun stuff to do there. I think Winnipeg just seems like a riot. Every time the Jets are in the playoffs and people are on the streets, it's amazing. System of a Down was your first concert in Toronto. That's an intense first First concert. I love System. They're amazing, but like, wow. You two concert in Vegas. First concert was Warrant and Rat. Yes, I was seven and I went with my mom. No way. How did your mom react when they saying, She's my cherry pie? Or rat, You're in love. Does anybody know rat? Does anybody know Warrant? You should unlock some of your '80s hair metal. It's the best. My ears don't do well in concert, so I don't go to them. My wife's the same way. She goes to concerts, but she only goes to chill vibes concerts. Hey, I'm a guy with an acoustic guitar and a viby sound. My wife loves that. She loves this artist. His name is Kevin Garrett. I don't know if you guys. Oh, Malkin's open. Wide open goal. What a pass. Yes, that's Lataing, isn't it?

02:22:07

Yeah. Oh, baby. Malkin is having a game tonight. Man, Montreal really poured it on in the second period, but Malkin, that's two super sexy set-ups. Look at this. This is hot. This will get you fired up. Petterson, Malkin, center to Lataing. Look at that, both defensemen. Oh, no. It was grizzlyck, sorry. Still, both defensemen joining the rush. That was great. Just veteran. These guys have played together for so long, they know where they're going to be. That was awesome. Are you going to do Round and Round at karaoke for us? For anybody that knows Rat, I saw them open for Poison in 2007 or 2008, when I went with all my friends because we were all big. We were all big heavy metal fans, and we were big hard rock fans, and '70s, '80s, '90s, stuff like that. And I had a blast. It was so much fun. It was Rat, Cinderella. If you don't know these bands, look them up. They were all hair metal, and then Poison. What a bill. So good. Oh, Raquel off the post. Man, this line is looking good. The penguins might have something with this Raquel Malkin line and bunting.

02:23:36

Let's not forget about bunting. Looking at Hayden stats here. He told me... Is that in your stats, Hayden? Okay. Advanced stats here for Hayden. Interesting. So the best line for Pittsburgh has actually been O'Connor-Malcom Bunting, but O'Connor is not here. So I'm going to assume it's the Malcolm line, basically. I want to say that I really like I haven't seen what... Did O'Connor? When was the last time he played? Was he injured? It's impossible to know. But there we go. Let me find out. It's Drew O'Connor, right? Yeah. Anyway, whatever. It doesn't matter. Long story short, it's that Malcolm line looks real good. Real good. And by the way, according to that same stats that we're judging them by. So the Malcolm line is the best line for Pittsburgh. Best line for Montreal so far, an expected goals for 60. Doc, Newhick, Armeya. They've had a good night tonight. They look good. They look good. The interesting thing about this game, too, it's 6:26 left. Obviously, it would be better if it was a one goal game, and I'm hoping Montreal does get one on Jari here. But you know that this game could be tied up in two seconds.

02:25:13

That's the fun part about this particular matchup is Montreal has looked dangerous tonight, and I think that they just don't have the finishing power yet. And I bet when a guy like Lina gets back in the lineup in January, you got to give them a few weeks to get into it. They're going to score some goals. Here we go. We got a turnover. Suzuki shot over the net. Slabkowski in the corner. He's got Caulfield down low, back up to the blue line. Nice little shot saved by Jari. Look at this. Best defensive pairs for Montreal and for Pittsburgh. Gouly Hudson for Montreal. Gryslick-littang, not a surprise for Pittsburgh. Here's the fun part. The worst forwards, according to expected goals, forward for 60. Montreal is Gallagher-Evans-Anderson. It's not the end of the world. It's your fourth line. Some veterans there. Maybe they do other things. For Pittsburgh, Puyarvi, Ellert, and Rutger McGordie. And interestingly, with McGordie, he is considered the least dangerous forward on the Pittsburgh Penguins' roster. Now, these are all very small sample sizes, and this will all change, but these are all the advanced stats right now, and I thought you needed to know.

02:26:46

Oh, yes. Hold on. Is that a lack of communication, Patrick? Is that a lack of communication reference? Did you really make a rat lack of communication reference on this? Oh, baby. Oh, baby. That makes me happy. Hey, Austin Young. Welcome to SDP VIP. We're so happy to have you on. Thanks for joining, man. It's going to be wicked. I'm telling you, SDP VIP is fun because there's The comment section is always great. The emails we get are always great. It's just a different side of the SDP that is non-hockey. Yeah. Nightranger is my first concert. That is from Mild and Lazy Guys. Love it. Nightranger is one of those bands, man. It's funny. My first concert was either Smoky Robinson or Ramstein. I honestly can't remember. That Ali Quinn, Smoky Robinson or Ramstein. Those are legends. Both are legends. And both are an amazing concert to be at your first one for. Adam, is this a 10:00 PM coffee? You bet you. Apparently, ADHD people like myself can sleep on coffee, which I can. Why is that? What's up with that? Anyway. Adam, when can we see the Palat Jersey come out? He was a tank today.

02:28:23

Man, I love Palat so much, and I'm so jealous that New Jersey has him because he would have been He's the perfect guy for the Leaps. And he has been the perfect guy for the Leaps for five years. And unfortunately, the Leaps never signed him. So he has to be a New Jersey devil. He's perfect. I will break it back out. I will break it back out. We'll get a New Jersey game in here. I don't know. I don't have the schedule in front of me, but there's a lot of... The Monday night game, essentially, is what we're going to be doing. And I was going to ask you guys this a little bit earlier. I don't know what your bedtimes are, but I thought a few times this year, it might be fun during the Amazon game to go, Okay, we're doing this game, but we're going to do a double header. Maybe we do... Okay, so weekly watch this. Here we go. So next Monday, we're going to get leaves Tampa. That's sick. So next Monday, Ripper Nation meets, and we grip because we got Tampa, Toronto. That's sick. I'm thinking that it would be really cool if we could do a doublehead or a couple of these Mondays.

02:29:37

I don't know when we would do it or why. There'd have to be a game reason to do it, but could you do six hours of a stream? I feel like I could. I feel like I could. I've already seen Hayden do it, and I've seen Robert and Justin do it. We'd probably have to take shifts and trade off. But didn't we get into a overtime situation? I think we got into, I forget what series it was. I feel like we got into a double overtime, potentially even a triple overtime in the Nashville-Vancouver series or the Edmonton-Vancouver series. And the game didn't start till 10:00 AM. So it was like 2:30 in the morning or something here. Anyway, it was wild. Okay, a lot of you would do... A lot of Gripper Nation would do six hours. I could do six hours with about four hours and a half in between. Fair enough. Yeah, I love this. Yeah. Okay, that's awesome. Well, we won't do it all the time, but I think it would be fun to do a couple of games once in a while. Just hang out, take it fun. I have not asked my crew about this.

02:30:51

Justin did not get this question. Robert did not get this question, Hayden did not get this question. So they might be cursing my game right now, and deservedly so. Deseveredly so. Double overtime. Game one, Dallas Edmondson, double overtime. That was a big one. That was a big one. Yeah, that was fun. So a lot of people are down for the double headers. I love it. Got an empty net here, guys. Montreal has got six out there. Let's see what they can do. Caulfield. Oh, I thought that was in the back of the net. They just missed. Suzuki. Oh, What a play. Doc with a great set up there. Just Caulfield just could not bury it, but that was great. Man, Montreal played this really, really well. Good little turn. Oh, Pittsburgh almost got out with it, but Montreal turns it back around. They've got offensive zone pressure. I don't know how long they can hold. This is the six best players they have. How long can these guys play? If they get a whistle here, I'm calling a time out and letting these guys breathe. Go to commercials. Breathe, baby. Breathe. Oh, Caulfield off the post.

02:32:17

Man, he's dynamite, dude. He's so good. Can you believe that he wasn't playing after that Stanley Cup run? The coach, Dom Dusharm, are you Are you kidding me, dude? Oh, my God. He's so good. Slavkowski, break it in. See, here's the problem. Slavkowski went high blocker. He didn't go high glove. He got to go high glove on Jari because they've been doing high gloves to Monte Ball all night at the other end. Oh, my gosh. We know Adam's hottest player crush is Andre Palat, and Steve now openly has discussed getting a divorce in order to marry Chris Tanev. What is Jesse's crush? Is it Billy Hussle? I don't think that it's not Billy Hussle, but I think Jesse's number one is now and will always be William Nylander. Has always been. He just loves him. Just loves him. Justin wrote, You're my boss, so can't wait. We'll do shifts. You guys don't have to hang out the whole time. We'll let people rest and have their Monday nights. Adam, was Woody the Christmas tree around when you lived in Halifax? No, but I heard about Woody the Christmas tree who was at... Was it Mick Mac Mall?

02:33:57

It was Mick Mac Mall, wasn't it? I do know about Woody, and I believe he's back. Is he not? I thought I heard a story that they were bringing him back. James Stemmler. I don't envy Shannon from the hockey guy who watches 70 million games at once and takes notes on all of them simultaneously. Dude is an alien. I love him. Man, he's so talented. James, you are absolutely right. I love the hockey guy. He's just a great person. And also, I don't know how you do what he does. Yeah, I don't know. Sometimes you just you look at other people and you go, I don't know how you did that. And I don't know if I could. And I'm just going to leave you to it. Do you know what I mean? I'm good at what I'm good at. You're good at that. That is probably not something that is going to make my list of things I'm good at by the time I pass away. And that's okay. And Shannon is just... He's brilliant that way. He really is. It's a great channel. We're big fans. Lane Hudson with a shot. Montreal has got to get a goal here, right?

02:35:01

No, they don't. Wow. Big shot, big goal. Malkin with a goal and well deserved. Man, Malkin had... Malkin is the first star tonight. Malkin's got one more goal, and he's going to hit 500. Crosby still does not have his 1,600th point. How is that possible? I stepped away for a sec, and then I was a channel member by the time I got back. Thanks, Cassie. Cassie, you rule. Cassie Klan. So glad to have you all back, man. Look at just all these names that I know. By the way, somebody asked a little bit earlier, and I'm sorry I didn't get your name because it was right in the middle of Malkin scoring a goal. It's John David. Are you doing all the prime games? I am doing all the prime games. So every Monday night, I'm hanging out here with you. Some of them will be double headers. We haven't decided which. It's not going to be for a bit, but there are going to be some ones where I'm like, You know what? Let's stay up till 1:00 AM Eastern Standard and have a good time. Watch some games. This is just I'm sad that the game's over.

02:36:17

What do you mean I don't get to do this till next week? I love this. I love hanging out with you. So let's keep it going. I'm bummed that this game wasn't a little bit closer towards the end because, man, it really felt like we had the makings of a good third period. But Pittsburgh showed what a veteran team can do that younger teams cannot. And that is, okay, fine, you're younger, you've got more energy, you're a puppy dog, whatever. We're just going to focus up and make it happen. And specifically, Gino is really making that he's driving that second line. I felt like, honestly, on offense, the Ler line was good. I thought the The Malkin line was great. Good for Kevin Hayes for getting a goal. That has to feel really good. I'm not loving... I know it's going to take Rust a little bit to get back up. He was injured. I don't love Bavillé on Crosby's wing. I don't love it. It's a big win for Jarry. He's got to feel good. I think that's his first of the year, so he's got to feel good about that. I think Montreal has got to get a winger, or Montreal is got to get a winger.

02:37:31

Pittsburgh has got to get a winger here for Crosby. I just don't think he's your next Chris Kunitz if I'm going on there. Let me say this. From Montreal's perspective, you're not walking away from this loving it. But what I will say is that I thought that their second period and half of the first really, really strong. There's no reason that they couldn't have and shouldn't have brought that momentum into the third period. They just didn't. And I think it's because they're young and they're figuring themselves out. And even Montreal, like their second-line center, Curvy Doc didn't play much last year. You got people still getting up to speed, and Patrick Laine is not playing until After Christmas and all that, there's things to do. So I think there's reasons to be excited in Montreal. But these are the types of games Montreal is going to lose. They're going to lose games to teams that are ideally top out as mid-level potential playoff teams like Pittsburgh. They're going to lose these games because Pittsburgh still just has that edge, but not forever. Not forever. So Listen, I hope you guys all enjoy your night. You were incredible tonight.

02:38:49

Oh, yeah. Sdpnchat actually just said that. Chat, you were incredible tonight. You guys were amazing. It was so cool hanging out with you. And I really, really appreciate you coming in on a Monday night. And here's the deal. We're not done. This is the beginning. So let's have some fun. We'll see you next Monday for the Lefs in Tampa Bay Lightning, and we're going to do some double headers this season. We're going to have some fun. Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian friends watching. And just happy Monday night to everybody else. We will see you next Monday. Don't forget, streams. Steve doing them every Saturday night, all season long. So enjoy those two. Love you.
