More anti-ice protests erupt in Oregon after another car attack and shooting. Trump says we're going to hit drug cartels in Mexico, and he announces a new effort to make houses more affordable. I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire executive editor, John Bickley. It's Friday, January ninth, and this is Evening Wire. The Department of Homeland Security says a border patrol agent fired on two suspected train de Aragua gang members after They attempted to run over federal immigration agents in Portland. Daily Wire reporter's actual has the latest. One border patrol agent pulled a gun and fired what officials say was a defensive shot at the vehicle. The suspected gang member and his passenger, also suspected of gang ties, sped off. Homeland Security issued a statement detailing what took place. Us border patrol agents were conducting a targeted vehicle stop in Portland, Oregon, yesterday afternoon, and the department said, The passenger of the vehicle and target is a Venezuelan illegal alien, affiliated with the transnational Trend de Aragua prostitution ring and involved in a recent shooting in Portland. The vehicle's driver is also believed to be a member of the gang. The DHS went on to say that agents identified themselves to the vehicle's occupants, but the driver then drove at the agents who fired a defensive shot.

The driver then drove off. In response, Democrats in Oregon are demanding that federal agents get out of the state as they've demanded in Minnesota. Here's Oregon State Senator Casey Jama. Let me say to to the federal agencies and ICE. This is Oregon. We do not need you. You're not welcome, and you need to get the hell out of our community. In Minnesota, the FBI has blocked state law enforcement from investigating the ICE shooting, with federal authorities leading that investigation instead. While organized protests continue in the state, more information about the woman who was killed in the incident has come to light. Daily Wire immigration reporter, Jenny Tear, reports. A A family member had claimed that Renee Nicole Good was not involved with any anti-ice activities, but some local residents attending a vigil for her told a very different story. They told The New York Post that she was a, quote, warrior who participated in an ice watch group to document and resist the agency. Good reportedly first learned of the group through her six-year-old son's leftist charter school, which prides itself on involving kids in political and social activism, the outlet reported. She She was a warrior.

She died doing what was right. A mother named Lisa, whose child attends the same school, told the post. Lisa went on to say that Good quote was trained against these ICE agents on what to do, what not to do. It's a very thorough training, she said. Protest over the deadly shooting of an ICE agitator continue in Minnesota and beyond. Delawar reporter, Breca Stoll has the latest from Minneapolis. I'm on the ground in Minneapolis, but a new video showing the officer's perspective with The video of agents ordering the woman, Renee Nicole Good, to get out of the car shortly before she drove off and was shot has circulated widely, fueling stronger reactions on the ground. Many demonstrations continue to accuse ICE of using excessive force and say they will not accept the official self events narrative, even as some footage appears to show Good's vehicle moving backward and then forward as officers approach. Local leaders, including Minneapolis mayor Jacob Fray and Minnesota governor Tim Walsh, have rejected the federal characterization of events protests, calling for transparency in the ongoing investigation. On the streets, protests have been both vocal and sustained. Hundreds gathered near federal buildings in the site of the shooting, chanting and demanding ICE leave the city, while authorities have at times used crowd control tactics.

Some businesses in the area have even refused service to ICE, including a local McDonald's. Here's my exchange with a security guard out front. We couldn't help but notice there's a sign that says no ICE on the door. Just to let you know, at the end of the day, this is private property. So you can't just break the law because you're a federal agent. It's like coming into your house or coming to any other restaurant. There's rules. Did the manager put that on the door? How did that get there? I'm not sure, but it's there. How do you guys enforce it? They read the sign. At the end of the day, you have all right to come in and make a purchase. It's just there's rules and regulations. You can't just walk behind the counter. Mcdonald's responded with the following statement, We're in touch with the owner and operator of this franchise restaurant, and we have confirmed that this flyer was posted without approval and has since been taken down. Us forces struck once again in the heart of the Caribbean, nabbing a suspected Ghost Fleet oil tanker that was attempting to evade interception. Early today, the Navy and Coast Guard boarded the Olina in international waters, which was sailing under false flags, and seized the vessel along with its cargo.

The tanker has the capacity to carry 890,000 barrels of crude Venezuelan oil, about $53 million worth. The operation involved Marines and sailors from the Joint Task Force Southern Spear, and it was backed by multiple US warships. Homeland security officials say the vessel was part of a shadow network to move embargoed oil. The profits, they argue, would have funded terrorist activities. President Trump shook things up in the Western hemisphere once again, Thursday, announcing that the US will be conducting land strikes against the cartels in Mexico. We've knocked out 97% of the drugs coming in by water, and we are going to start now hitting the land with regard to the cartels. The cartels are running Mexico. It's very, very sad to watch and see what's happened to that country, but the cartels are running, and they're killing 250, 300,000 people in our country every single year. Meanwhile, the President said early Friday that he's canceled a previously expected second wave of attacks targeting Venezuela. Venezuela is, quote, releasing large numbers of political prisoners, Trump said, calling the move a gesture of goodwill toward the United States. He had previously declined to rule out follow-up strikes, but now he said that two countries, quote, are working well together, especially as it pertains to rebuilding in a much bigger, better, and more modern form their oil and gas infrastructure.

Disgraced Hollywood mogul, Harvey Weinstein, is considering pleading guilty as yet another trial looms on charges of third-degree rape.

Daily Wire reporter, Lyndon Blake, has the details. Jessica Mann, a former aspiring actress, claims Weinstein raped her at a New York hotel in March of 2013. Weinstein has denied that claim, but his lawyer told the judge that the 73-year-old is considering pleading guilty to that rape charge to avoid another trial. That trial would begin on March third if Weinstein can't reach a plea deal. At the end of the hearing Thursday, Weinstein, who appeared frail in a wheelchair, spoke directly to the judge. He said, I admit my moral failings. I was unfaithful and wrongly, but I have never assaulted anyone. Weinstein was found guilty of third-degree rape of man in early 2020, but that ruling was overturned in 2024 by an appeals court. Weinstein was then retried on that same case last year, but the jury failed to reach a verdict. President Trump has announced that the government will purchase $200 billion in mortgage bonds to help lower housing costs. Daily Wire political reporter Cameron Arcan does more. The President said in a True Social post Thursday that while Joe Biden ignored the housing market, he's giving it special attention. He broke, Because I chose not to sell Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in my first term, it is now worth many times that amount and has $200 billion in cash.

Because of that, he said, he's instructing his representatives to buy $200 billion in mortgage bonds. This, he said, will drive down mortgage rates and monthly payments and make the cost of owning a home more affordable. Now, the announcement comes after Trump said Wednesday that he would be taking action against institutional investors buying single-family homes. Progressives on Minneapolis's City Council used its first meeting of the year to install members of the Democratic Socialists of America as both the majority leader and minority leader. Daily Wire investigative reporter, Luke Rosiak has this story. Ayesha Chughtai, the Council's first Muslim and youngest member, will be majority leader, saying her role would be to, Identify uncontroversial ideas that the rest of the body largely agreed with, the starter being paraphrased, while the minority leader would be tasked with convincing others to accept more controversial ideas. Chughtai nominated Robin Wansley, a gender studies PhD, for that role. Wansley said the minority role will be to recognize the political diversity of the council, specifically the four members of the Democrats Socialists of America, even though that's a group that includes the majority leader. Moderate members protested the appointments with La Trisha Vitao, pointing out that the Socialists were claiming to represent diversity by installing two members of the same political faction to both parties' lots, even though they almost always vote the same way, icing out moderates.

The suspect accused of targeting a Supreme Court mass with hundreds of explosives was back in court this week. Daily Wire Senior Editor, Joel Needler, reports. Louis Gary was arrested last October with more than 100 explosive devices outside of St. Matthew's Cathedral, ahead of the annual Red Mass, which marked the start of the Supreme Court term. Gary appeared in DC superior Court Tuesday for a status hearing, during which the court addressed the next return date, which was scheduled for February fifth, but pushed back. Gary faces charges of one count of unlawful manufacture or possession of a weapon of mass destruction and false report of a weapon of mass destruction. Authorities say Gary had gathered materials for explosives and put them in a tent on the steps of St. Matthew's Cathedral on October fifth last year, ahead of the Red Mass, and that he knew the potential for danger was incredibly high. President Trump's ongoing public feud with Republican congressman Thomas Massey added another chapter this week. Daily Wire Assistant Editor Andy Valdes explains. President Trump is urging Republicans to get behind a Navy seal who he hopes will oust the Kentucky representative in the midterms. The President wrote on Truth Social that Captain Ed Galreine has his complete and total endorsement in a bid to replace Massey in Kentucky's fourth Congressional district.

Massey has been a thorn in Trump's side for most of his second term, criticizing his handling of the Epstein files and voting against his big, beautiful Bill. Trump went on to describe Massey as the worst, quote, unquote, Republican congressman we have had in many years. And former late night host, Conan O'Brien, is warning comedians who do nothing but bash President Trump that they're, quote, just screaming and need to try harder to come up with funny material. Here's O'Brien in an interview this week with the Oxford Union. I think some comics go the route of, I'm going to just say F Trump all the time, or that's their comedy. I think, well, now a little bit, you're being coopted because you're so angry, you've been lulled. It's like a siren leading you into the rocks. I think you've now put down your best weapon. Person, which is being funny, and you've exchanged it for anger. I think, well, if you're a comedian, you always need to be funny. You just have to find a way.
