I am curious what you think about what's going on in New England now.

00:00:05

Okay, I'm glad we're talking about this.

00:00:07

It's in the name of the show. It's NFL Daily. Unfortunately, this news will get updated. I think we're going to hear from Drake May. I think he is going to be the quarterback. But as we're taping this, we don't know.

00:00:23

Well, they won't announce it until... Quarterbacks don't talk until Wednesday, so it won't be outdated tomorrow.

00:00:26

Might not be outdated soon. You never know if a report comes But just the way Geron Mayo sounded not fully backing Jacobi Brisset, usually when you do that on a Monday, a change is coming. Do you want it to happen?

00:00:38

That's more. Okay, so here is my question. My question is, what's different now than the beginning of the season? Because we knew this was going to happen, right? Yes, they found a way to win week one against the bangles, and everyone thought, Oh, my God, there's hope for this team. Maybe they're better than we thought. This offensive line has been a struggle throughout the entire training camp. They were switching guys in and out. They just didn't have... I mean, even going Back to last season, this offensive line, the lack of weapons, the lack of receivers, the lack of tight ends. We knew that this Patriots team was going to be an issue. Yes, Jacobi Berset made some throws we talked about earlier that could have been better. But what is the point? This is what I don't get, and maybe you can answer me. I'm not saying I'm right or wrong. I just am trying to understand. What is the point of putting Drake May in there now?

00:01:28

I think because you want to see what he could do, you want to see how the offense looks.

00:01:32

Okay, I understand what you're saying. You put him in there, he gets destroyed. Now you have the fan base calling for him, saying, Get this guy out of there.

00:01:41

Who? Dron Mayo? No. Oh, calling for May now.

00:01:44

As they did with Bayly Zappie and Mac Brown.

00:01:47

It's a little different.

00:01:48

Did I just say Mac Brown?

00:01:50

I would like to see him play quarterback. He could have maybe played quarterback better than Mac Jones did last year. I think the difference is their coaches, and They didn't think it was going to be this bad.

00:02:03

They thought they could win. I disagree.

00:02:05

I think they were hopeful that it would go better than this.

00:02:08

Okay, maybe better than this. And yes, you lose to a Dolphins team without their quarterback, Tua Tungo, Viloa. You should have won that game. 100% should have won that game. Poor clock management, poor throw at the end of the game. I get that. But what is going to happen if Drake May goes in there, gets sacked four or five times a game? The Patriots are still losing.

00:02:29

Whatever. It's football. No. I think you asked the right question at the beginning, what's different now between now and week one? I think that's a totally fair question. They were hopeful it would be better. What's different is actually the offensive line is even worse now. They've lost 2-3 left. So now you're going to put them in? In their center. So that's a point against it. They thought, We signed Jacobi Brisset. We want to see how he can do. I actually think they find value in the five weeks that Drake may has just had to see.

00:02:57

See, I disagree.

00:02:57

The week-to-week process and everything like that. But I don't think they wanted to play him. But here's the difference. I think the locker room would want to play him because they see him in practice every day, and they're like, This dude is better. Everyone acts with quarterbacks like, Oh, my gosh, what if he gets destroyed?

00:03:15

What if this happens and we break this? I understand it's the NFL and you're going to get destroyed. Injury is going to happen. In practice, it can even happen.

00:03:22

They're throwing out centers that just joined the team 10 days ago to go out there and make the calls. What about those poor guys?

00:03:28

I understand that. I'm more just What happens if you didn't put Mac Jones out there as early as you did? You got an offensive line. You got weapons. Would people have been calling... Like, Boston is such a different sports market, you know, than even LA.

00:03:43

Yeah, but they're dumb, and you can't-But I understand, but I think that I wonder how much of this is outside noise for Gerard Mayo.

00:03:51

How much is he seeing Caleb Williams? How much is he seeing Jaden Daniels? How much is he thinking, Drake May can go into the Patriots system and do the same thing? Chicago and... Who did I say? Jaden Daniels and Washington are two very different places than New England right now. They have two very different types of players on their rise.

00:04:09

Oh, yeah. No one is arguing that Drake May is set up for success.

00:04:13

I'm not disagreeing.

00:04:14

But I've seen a lot of great quarterbacks play in really brutal situations.

00:04:19

So you think Drake may can go out there and this Patriots team can contend for the AFC East?

00:04:25

Of course not. I don't even think he's going to play that well. I In the circumstance-The why throw out there to kill the kid's confidence? That's where I do disagree. I think if you're going to be a great NFL player, you'll withstand it. He's not going to play worse than Jared Goff played as a rookie. He's not going to play worse than Eli Manning played as a rookie. He's not going to play worse than Alex Smith played as a rookie. And the thing-What about Trevor Lawrence? I don't think he's going to play worse than Trevor Lawrence played as a rookie. But if he did, all of those quarterbacks came back and had the careers that they were going to have anyways. It's fine. Drake May is so much more talented than Jacobi Brisset. Now, I have very little faith that this offensive staff is going to have any solutions, any cohesion. They really look like a coaching staff of leftovers, which is harsh, but it's what they were. They were all these guys on the other staffs that the other teams didn't want to hire. Mcadoo is still kicking around. Alex Van Pelt, he's the one guy in that, Stefansky and McVay and Shana Han coaching tree that's like, no one was giving him those jobs.

00:05:37

No one was giving these opportunities, and it's not going well. Maybe Drake may can save them all. He probably can't. But he is the most important person in the franchise, and he's the best quarterback on the team. Let's just see him play some football. Let's get some yards. And if it goes poorly, it's going poorly. It's not going to go any worse. What's going to happen? They go from 30th to 31st. I'll stop talking.

00:06:01

People are going to say, who cares about the people.

00:06:04

You can't worry about the boss.

00:06:05

I'm not worrying about the media, but I think a young player.

00:06:10

Fair.

00:06:10

That has to deal with media is, I don't know. Let's just see it happen. Then we can talk in 10 weeks and figure out who was right.

00:06:20

Okay, we will. If he really struggled for the most part and only showed little signs of him playing well.

00:06:25

But I remember reports from Training Camp. I think that would be good.

00:06:27

He wasn't-He came along a little slowly. I think he came on better at the end where people thought he was playing better. I think there is frustration from the wide receiver, too, on this team that Jacobi is just not throwing them the ball. I don't think it's Jacobi's fault, but why not? You took this kid third overall.
