If you tie your entire identity to one specific metric, you will lose your drive the second you achieve it.

Whether it is buying the dream house or selling a company, the high fades incredibly fast. If you stop climbing, you kill your purpose. Second, you have to fall in love with the actual process of building. People do not stay at the top of their industry for decades by resting on past trophies. They stay there because they actually enjoy the daily friction of solving massive problems. So instead of obsessing over the final payout, obsess over your daily operations. Make the execution the actual reward. Lastly, the infinite horizon keeps you young.
