It's Monday, October seventh, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.

A year after Hamas's October seventh attack on Israel, nearly 100 hostages remain unreturned, many of whom are presumed dead. Daily Wire reporter Tim pierce has more.

Of the 251 originally captured, Israeli officials believe 64 are still being held alive. The bodies of 33 have been recovered. Seven American citizens are among those in Hamas custody, including four still believed to be alive. Daily Wire spoke to Jonathan Dekelhen, whose son, Saghee, was taken hostage from near Oze, a kibbutz in Southern Israel. He says that the past year has been a living hell.

That's really the only way to describe it, because it's our own crisis of having a hostage that we know nothing of his fate. Our homes were destroyed, most of our property either looted or burned by the looters. We've lost our way of life. Our kibbutz as a whole is completely traumatized because there's not a single household that wasn't touched either by someone being murdered or taken hostage or both.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu visited a memorial and vow to return the hostages still held by Hamas. President Biden issued a statement pledging that his administration will not stop until all remaining hostages are safely brought home. However, Republican critics claim his policies have enabled Israel's adversaries, such as Iran and its proxy groups. Here's vice presidential candidate JD Vance.

What we have now is, unfortunately, Iran is empowered. They're richer than they've ever been before, and they are emboldened to attack not just Israel, but a lot of really important American assets in the region, American economic interests. Unfortunately, it's all been emboldened and all been encouraged by Kamala Harris's weak leadership.

Today's anniversary does not come without its tension. Hamas fired off rockets into Israel, which injured at least two people. The IDF responded with airstrikes targeting Hamas launch sites in Gaza. Meanwhile, October seventh, memorials and rallies calling for the release of all hostages are planned worldwide.

Hurricane Milton has intensified into a Category 5 storm with 160-mile-per-hour winds as it moves across the Gulf of Mexico towards Florida. Millions are bracing for life-threatening storm storm surge, destructive winds, and flooding rain. Florida's governor, Ron DeSantis, has declared a state of emergency and evacuation orders are in place along the Gulf Coast. The governor says every county will have designated shelters.

Any place that's going to be open as a shelter, Florida hotels that are built within the last however many 20, 30 years are all going to be able to withstand hurricane force winds.

Hurricane and tropical storm watches have been issued, with the storm expected to bring major impacts to the state.

White House Press Secretary, Kareen Jean-Pierre, is under fire for conflicting statements on whether FEMA resources are being used to support migrants. Last week, she denied the claim, calling it, Categorically false. Here's that moment.

It's just categorically false. It is not true. It is a false statement. No, Biden did not take a FEMA relief money to use on migrants.

Critics of the press secretary, however, have pointed to a 2022 press conference where she acknowledged that FEMA funds were available for migrant relief. Those funds came through the Shelter and Services program, a separate program from the Disaster Relief Fund. Here's that moment.

So FEMA regional administrators have been meeting with city officials on site to coordinate available federal support from FEMA and other federal agencies. Funding is also available through FEMA's emergency Food and Shelter program to eligible local governments and non-for-profit organizations upon request to support humanitarian relief for migrants.

Georgia's Supreme Court ruled today to reinstate a pro-life law previously held unconstitutional by a state judge. Daily Wire senior reporter Mary Margaret Olahan has the latest.

Georgia's Supreme Court has reinstated a pro-life law that protects unborn babies beyond six weeks of pregnancy. That law is called the Living Infants Fairness and Equality Act or the Life Act, and it was set to take effect again at 5:00 PM today. Judge Robert McBerney of the Fulton County Superior Court had overturned Georgia's law on September 30th, claiming that it violated the state's Constitution and temporarily allowed abortions to continue in Georgia up until 22 weeks. The state's Supreme Court's action will now protect unborn babies beyond six weeks of pregnancy.
