History unfolding and history restored in Paris today. The iconic Cathedral of Notre Dame officially reopened more than 5 years after a massive fire nearly destroyed it. Lauren Greene is there and has more.
The doors of the church are now open. The Notre Dame Cathedral nearly destroyed by fire for the first time in 5 and a half years. Her bells rang out over Paris. 1500 invited guests and dignitaries were inside for the ceremony, while outside, tens of 1000 lined this in watching on big screens. Trump led a who's who of dignitaries attending, including Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky, Britain's prince William, and first lady Jill Biden.
5 and a half years ago, the world watched in horror as fire engulfed Notre Dame, the 13th century gothic cathedral. President Macron vowed Notre Dame, Our Lady, would be repaired and reopened in 5 years, and so the work began. 2000 statues were restored or recreated. Some 24 100 oak trees rebuild the trusses, the famed forest. A new lead roof, the religious relics heroically saved in the fire will now have a place of honor and presentation.
A couple of hours before the solemn ceremony began, Trump and Macron met at the presidential palace. It is Trump's first appearance on the world stage since winning the election on November 5th. Macron, 1 of the world leaders who was in office during Trump's first term that ended in 2020, the 2 talking about the past and the future.
It's a great honor for for French people to welcome you. It's an honor to be here. We had a good time together, and we had a lot of lot of success, really great success working together.
The restoration cost some $800,000,000, 65,000,000 from US donors. Tomorrow, the first mass at Notre Dame Cathedral in more than 5 years. In Paris, Lauren Greene, Fox News.
