Transcript of FBI says nine Native American Kids Rescued

Nine kids rescued from abuse and neglect, over 40 people arrested, 11 criminal indictments. It's all part of what the FBI has called Operation Not Forgotten, a surge in federal resources to tribal lands across the country. It comes amid soaring rates of violence against Native Americans and a mountain caseload of unsolved investigations. Now, I previously wrote along with an FBI agent on the Navajo Nation. He spoke about the difficult nature of that work.

You got to be able to learn the land. You got to be able to learn the cultural norms. Our number one challenge is access.

Now, there are many barriers to solving these investigations. Victim advocates say there are simply not enough resources for police officers on tribal lands. One victim advocate told me in his example, sometimes victims have to travel over 200 miles just to get to the nearest police station. Another issue, public awareness. One reservation chief told me that these cases don't get enough attention. How can they expect the public to help with an investigation if they don't know the crime has occurred?
