Transcript of Musk is giving some US voters $1m, but is it legal? #ElonMusk #USElection #BBCNews
BBC NewsIs this legal? That was Elon Musk giving a $1 million check to a US voter. He's promised to do the same every day from now to election day on the fifth of November. You're in with a chance if you're a registered voter in a swing state and sign a petition in favor of free speech and the right to bear arms with one random person being selected per day. The petition was created by Elon Musk's campaign group, America PAC, set up to support Donald Trump in the US election. If you refer another voter who signs up, you're promised $47. In Pennsylvania, a key swing state, which both campaigns believe will probably decide the winner of the presidential election, you get $100 for signing up or referring another voter. Some experts suggest offering money for an act that requires someone to be signed up as a voter might break American electoral law. Argue Musk might be covered by a loophole as nobody is being paid directly to register or vote. The Justice Department has declined to comment. The Federal Election Commission has been approached for comment, and BBC News has contacted Mr. Musk's team, an America PAC, for comment.
