Rupert Murdoch won't be allowed to give control of his media empire to his eldest son. Some call it a succession style battle, as the media mogul was pitted against 3 of his children over who would get to run Fox News and News Corp when he dies. The 93 year old wanted his son, Lachlan, to take control without interference from his siblings, Prudence, Elizabeth, and James, as he's thought to be more conservative and will preserve the legacy of his media brands. But for that to happen, a family chat set up in 1999 had to be changed. A Nevada court has now ruled that mister Murdoch and Lachlan had acted in bad faith and called their efforts a carefully crafted charade.

The family was 1 of the inspirations behind the TV series succession, something that the Murdoch's have always refused to comment on. But according to the New York Times, the billionaire's children did start talking about their father's death and how they would handle it after an episode of the show where, spoiler, the patriarch of the family dies leaving his family and business in chaos. This led to Elizabeth's team writing a succession memo to try and prevent it from happening in real life. The BBC contacted Rupert Murdoch, but he declined to comment.
