Transcript of Israel kills Hezbollah leader who planned attack on U.S. soldiers in Iraq
NBC NewsWe are now learning that a senior Hezbollah leader has been killed by an Israeli airstrike, and we're told that the Hezbollah commander helped plan one of the most sophisticated attacks on the US Army back during the Iraq war. Nbc's Dan DeLuce has more.
Guided US defense officials have told our colleague, Courtney Kuby, that a key Hezbollah commander, Ali Musadakduk, who was blamed for a sophisticated and audacious attack on an American base in 2017, Iraq, has been killed in an Israeli airstrike in Syria. It's not clear when the strike took place exactly or precisely where in Syria. But this Hezbollah figure has been killed, and he orchestrated an attack on a US-Iraqi base in Kabul in 2007, where they were wearing American uniforms, carrying American weapons, and spoke English, and managed to make their way into this US base. They killed one US soldier, captured four others, left the base. They were pursued by attack helicopters. They ditched their vehicles and killed the four Americans that they had taken captive. And later, he was captured by US forces. He was interrogated and acknowledged that that whole operation had been masterminded by Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps. He was eventually handed over to Iraqi authorities when American forces left Iraq at the end of 2011. He was the last prisoner to prisoner to be handed over at that time, but the Iraqi authorities later released him, which caused anger in Washington. But now we learn that he has been killed in an Israeli airstrike.
