It's day 4 of the Tyler Robinson hearings. Ukraine carries out large-scale drone strikes on Russia, and China opens a robot-run hotel. I'm Daily Wire Executive Editor John Bickley with Georgia Howe. It's Thursday, July 9th. This is Evening Wire.

A fourth day of testimony today began in the preliminary hearings for Tyler Robinson, the man charged with assassinating Charlie Kirk. Judge Tony Graff cleared a key piece of evidence for broadcast, a recorded law enforcement interview with Robinson's transgender lover, Lance Twigs. Twigs told investigators Robinson asked him for power tools to engrave messages into bullets days before Kirk's shooting. He also said that Robinson confessed to him in person the day after the shooting, breaking down in tears and saying he wished he hadn't done it. Twigs also told investigators he recognized Robinson in the suspect photo and surveillance video released by police. Prosecutors also presented the full text exchange between Twigs and Robinson in the hours after the shooting. Asked why he did it, Robinson wrote, quote, I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can't be negotiated out, and said he'd been planning the attack for over a week. The week-long preliminary hearings will wrap Friday at 5 p.m. Mountain Time.

The Iran conflict is back on. Foreign affairs reporter Kassia Kiva has the latest.

As Khamenei's body approached its final resting place at the shrine of Imam Reza in Mashhad, Mourners carried a massive banner reading, quote, "We will kill Trump." The multi-day funeral procession, which traveled through cities in Iran and Iraq, also featured signs depicting President Trump in crosshairs, banners offering rewards for his assassination, and posters calling for blood. Meanwhile, US forces struck roughly 90 Iranian military targets overnight according to CENTCOM, hitting air defense systems, missile and drone facilities, naval assets, and military logistics and infrastructure. Iran responded by launching missiles across the region, prompting the US Embassy in Jordan to urge Americans to seek immediate shelter as Jordanian forces intercepted multiple incoming missiles.

The US Navy has identified the aviator missing after an emergency landing at sea. Daily Wire producer Justice Spuler has more.

00:02:12

The US Navy has identified the pilot who went missing after an MH-60S Seahawk helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing in the Arabian Sea. Commander Gabriel Edwards, who led Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Five, disappeared during the incident that occurred on July 1st. Three other crew members were rescued, but after a 102-hour search spanning more than 14,000 square miles, the Navy called off the rescue efforts. Officials say there's no evidence that the emergency landing was caused by hostile activity, and the cause remains under investigation. Acting Navy Secretary Hong Chao says Edwards will posthumously be promoted to the rank of captain in recognition of his 20 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca, and their two children.

Ukraine has carried out one of its largest drone offenses against Russia this week. Daily Wire contributor Tim Pearce has the details.

00:02:59

Kyiv said that it had struck 21 vessels in Moscow's fleet, as well as a number of refineries deep inside Russia.

00:03:05

The strikes have showcased Ukraine's ability to carry out long-distance attacks and to hit some of Russia's most important assets, including its oil infrastructure. Ukraine's capabilities may soon receive a boost from the US after President Trump met with President Zelensky at the NATO summit in Turkey this week.

We'll give them the right to make patriots. We'll show them how to do it. It's very complex, actually, but it's, uh, you'll figure out the complexity quickly.

A toddler that was declared dead at a hospital in Gilbert, Arizona was found alive hours later in the morgue. 18-month-old Vincent Lorenzo Fiordolino was rushed to a hospital after his family pulled him from their suburban pool. He'd been underwater for about 5 minutes. The medical team led by Dr. Arian Tusi at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center pronounced Fiordolino dead, but police officers say the medical team ignored signs of life and rushed to judgment. Fiordolino was found alive hours later by a medical examiner in the morgue. According to a family GoFundMe, an MRI revealed the toddler had bruising on his brain that will take extensive therapy to recover from. It's unclear whether the bruising is from the pool incident or the hospital's mistake.

Female athletes are being forced to compete against biological males, sometimes without their consent or even their knowledge. In Washington, high school sophomore Callie Keeler was sexually assaulted on the wrestling mat during a tournament. Only afterward did she learn her opponent was a boy who identifies as a girl. With the help of Alliance Defending Freedom, Callie is bravely suing the state over a policy that not only allows males to compete in girls' high school sports, but doesn't require schools to disclose that information to female athletes or their parents. Don't let schools put gender ideology over the safety of girls in sports. Your support today can help fight for Callie and other athletes like her. President Trump has stalled Congress as he tries to force lawmakers to pass legislation to fortify elections. Associate editor Zach Jewell explains.

00:06:11

Trump has tied the Save America Act, which includes his long-sought voter ID rule, to unrelated bills in Congress to use those bills as leverage. Trump's latest attempt to wrangle lawmakers came this week when he tied the Save America Act to a $350 billion defense package. The president wrote on Truth Social on Tuesday that passing both together would ensure, quote, that the United States of America stays free for generations to come. The Save America Act has been stalled in Congress for months. Republicans were able to pass it out of the House, but the bill has remained stuck in the Senate over resistance from Democrats.

4 states are seeking $1.4 trillion in penalties from Meta over claims that Facebook and Instagram harmed children. California, Colorado, Kentucky, and New Jersey are claiming that Meta's social platforms are intentionally addictive and that they withheld information from the public about the known harms they cause to young people. The $1.4 trillion in damages was calculated based on the number of children harmed multiplied by the estimated number of infractions, but Meta has balked at the figure, stating that the entire company is worth a comparable $1.5 trillion. The trial is set to begin in Oakland, California, next month.

President Trump is still interested in Greenland. He revived the dispute at the NATO summit in Turkey this week, telling reporters that the frozen island matters far more to the US than it does to Denmark.

00:07:29

Greenland is very important for the United States, but it's not important for Denmark. In fact, when Denmark was overrun by the Nazis in less than one day— Hitler beat them out in one day, took over— they asked us to take care of Greenland. In fact, we took Greenland. And then stupidly, we gave it back. We shouldn't have given it back to them because we're the ones that need it. We need it for protection of the world, not just the United States.

00:07:56

At the summit, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte agreed with Trump on the military importance of Greenland.

00:08:02

When it comes to the defense of the Arctic, he absolutely was right, because there is a huge risk that Russia and China will gain more and more access to the Arctic.

00:08:13

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has made clear that Copenhagen has no intention of letting Greenland go.

00:08:20

And the Nashville Police Department is making headlines for the interesting decision to send recruits to a training seminar at a gay club. Daily Wire lifestyle reporter Lauren Baer has more.

00:08:30

Police recruits were sent to Play Nashville, a club known around town for its drag performances, at the behest of Democrat Mayor Freddie O'Connell. Potential future officers were lectured by activists and participated in a, quote, moderated discussion on LGBTQIA+ concerns. O'Connell said in a statement that the visit was part of the department's standard diversity tour for recruits, not a one-time Pride Month event. The mayor added, quote, Metro Nashville Police recruits do a diversity tour before they ever hit the streets. Those are your drive home updates this evening.
