Hello, everybody, and welcome back to Garibaldi Red Podcast, Nottingham Forest Podcast as the Reds come back from behind to secure a huge emphatic win and a statement win against Aston Villa. Forest win the game 2 1 at the City Ground under a special atmosphere on a Saturday night. It was in front of the TV cameras. Many people watching. We should discuss all of that.

00:00:31

And as the Reds sit 4th in the Premier League on 15th December, take that in. It isn't a Christmas wish. You're not dreaming. Forest really do sit 4th. So we will discuss all of that, joined by probably my, in fact, I was about to say 2 2 favorites on the podcast, but that's really harsh, so that it comes on.

00:00:52

But but but but it seems like every time, every time we have Dave and Sarah on, Forrest win and Forrest get a big win. And boy was it big yesterday. Dave, first of all, mate, how are you? How's things? And, I can imagine that you've, as as I have been jumping for joy today.

00:01:10

Just what a what a game yesterday.

00:01:12

Yeah. I'm I'm much better, Max. I've had a couple of weeks where I was a bit not great, you know, bit with chest infection and all that. But, it's just such a lovely feeling that it's basically stretched over 8 days from Old Trafford, which was just a fantastic communal experience for everybody in the away section and supporters watching on the telly and around the world. So it's wonderful for them.

00:01:38

That was a fantastic day. And then just when you think it can't get any better, our lovely lads go and produce that yesterday, which was just wonderful. So it's a very special time to be a Nottingham Forest supporter, I think. We've had many, many years where we've not had these kind of experiences. So as Nuno rightly said yesterday, keep it on the ground.

00:02:00

Let's enjoy it for what it is at the moment. It was, yesterday as as was last Saturday. 2 very, very special days, mate, and, honored and privileged to have been there for both of them, you know.

00:02:11

Yeah. Absolutely. That's spot on. Agree. We are live on YouTube.

00:02:15

Gary, I've already read him Facebook Nottingham Forest News on this Sunday evening. So if you fancy getting your thoughts in about what you thought of the game and everything surrounding Forest at the minute, then, of course, we welcome him. So nice to talk about Forest doing well for once, and especially after Manchester United snatched a, snatched a win in the end. What an awful game of football we were just on about, but thank thank the lords for Man United, to to well, keeping Forest 4th at the end of this match day weekend. So all good.

00:02:42

Also joined by Sarah. Sarah, how are you? And and how's things? And and I guess, as we were talking about the other week, remember when you were on, you were just saying to me how much you know, how it's nice to see Forest winning at the minute, and long may it continue. And it has.

00:02:56

Yeah. No. It's great. Unbelievable yesterday, I think. I don't I think I had it down yesterday as a a 1 1 in my head, and I think I'm a super 6.

00:03:05

I think most pundits probably had it for that because they couldn't

00:03:08

They did.

00:03:09

Partners. Went to Manchester for the 2nd time in a week, got soaking wet, freezing cold, but, God, it was worth it as Dave said. Yeah. Yeah. Although I probably did come back with something not very nice from there because I would spend a few days in bed this week.

00:03:25

But yeah. No. Brilliant. I mean, actually, thought that the game yesterday, they just seemed to get better as and they kinda grew into it, and those subs were just amazing. So, yeah, perfect.

00:03:40

It was just like a perfect display, wasn't it? And it was so long since we've won a game like that in the final moments. Was it nil 1?

00:03:49

Yeah. I I I was literally just about to say, actually, Sarah, that when was the last time that Forrest it was alright? When when when was the last time Forest had had had scored like that quite late on and then gone and won the game and and and almost come from behind? Can I just remember that game against yeah? Yeah.

00:04:05

Probably Dame, actually. Yeah. Yeah. It's a good 1.

00:04:08

And it rained and it rained like mad at Bristol City that night, which is, like, kind of literally a watershed moment because we were in a shed covered in water that night. You know what I mean? So

00:04:19

Dave, what did you make of it last night? You know, it it was under the lights. It was on telly, on Sky. Lots of people would have been watching all around the country, all all around the world, in fact. Yeah.

00:04:31

And, you know, especially this weekend given that a a few of the other bigger teams, shall we say, didn't play until today, and they do so in now. So lots of people would have been watching it last night. I I I just think that this was another statement win for Forest. Would you agree? And we've had lots of them, and we talk about Manchester United and Liverpool and and beating them.

00:04:49

But in terms of this game, it was at home, and Villa arguably are another team that will probably finish in the top top 8 this season, if not even maybe top 6. And and they're gonna be in and around that, possibly amongst Forest, which is crazy to say. But it's another statement win, and it just feels slightly bigger than some of the other games. Would you agree in terms

00:05:08

of the win?

00:05:08

I think

00:05:09

it was a game of, a couple of phases really, Max. I thought the first sort of 60 minutes, it was case of 2 teams that looked like they've been established in the top half for quite a while, which we haven't. Basically, feeling each other out tactically looking for, you know, a weakness in the other. It went backwards and forwards. Very difficult to set to sort of separate them.

00:05:33

And the pundits sort of predictions and and preemptions of the game, I thought it'd be a draw. Sarah thought it'd be a draw. Chris Sutton on the BBC thought it'd be a draw. Everywhere I saw it, it was a draw because, you know, we're 5th playing well. Leersig's playing well.

00:05:45

Leersig's got fantastic win against Leipzig in Europe. And I thought, 6 sort of up to 60 minutes, how far we've come to be on a par with a team like Aston Villa who've been, you know, champions of a you know, managed to qualify to the Champions League. And then if you like, the turning point of the game in many ways was 1 of the greatest saves, I think, any of us will ever see. Emmy Martinez pulled off something truly miraculous. I was lucky enough to be in the Trenton not far away from it.

00:06:17

I saw it, I had a view on it thinking that Martinez had stopped it on the line, put his hand on it and then flicked it back. But he didn't, he did it all in 1 movement, which is an amazing piece of athleticism. And from that moment on, the game became something different. Villa scored a lovely goal to go in front, and then Forrest did something to my way to it to my way of thinking and made me so proud of them. They had to deal with the Martinez save, which, I mean, Nicolas Dominguez more than anybody on the planet would think, how have I not scored?

00:06:54

But so that was a kind of a what, you know, what it was a kind of what do we have to do to beat this guy kinda moment. Bill and then score a really good I mean, John Durant had a fantastic piece of football, you know. Yeah.

00:07:05

It was well taken.

00:07:06

Chelsea Chelsea had no chance with that. Then we roll our sleeves up and say, right, Villa. You've gone in front. We're gonna come back at you. We're denied an equalizer, a beautiful bit of football by, in Morgan, Anthony, and Chris.

00:07:22

We're denied that by, the width of a, you know, a shirt or whatever, very harsh VAR decision. And then Nottingham Forest, for the millions watching on TV who are tuning in to see, are Nottingham Forest something approaching the real deal or maybe heading towards becoming a real deal? I think we're given some very, very cogent evidence that Nottingham Forest are if they're not a good side, they're going in the right direction towards becoming a good side because I thought I walked out of the ground and I was floating because I thought the attitude, I thought the courage, I thought the unity, I thought the character of those lads wearing red yeah. Gary Baldy red last night was something to behold, and I will remember it to my dying day. I thought, you know, the BAR decision, there was 3 minutes of hanging around people behind me.

00:08:18

Ridiculous,

00:08:19

by the way. It's so ridiculous. It took so long now.

00:08:22

It exposed the game. Right? I I saw people behind me. There was some wonderful guy who stood behind me I got to wait to later on, and he had his hands. He was praying during the VAR decision.

00:08:31

And when the VAR decision went against us, if you take the guy behind me in the row as a sort of a representative of how the team, Nuna and the coaching staff, and the rest of us as a Forest family were feeling, he looked devastated. But the guys on the field went, hey ho. We've had a kick in the teeth. We go again. And what they did towards the end of that match was truly remarkable.

00:08:55

I don't often go into hyperbole about for us. I wanna keep it be on the ground and take it day by day as Nuno does. But for me as a supporter, the pride walking out of that ground, I mean, you know, Martinez have made this incredible say for you know, the ball from Nico. I mean, Nico had a shot, which Martinez had saved that he's near post, which kind of acted as a catalyst for Forest to get ahead of steam up. Then, you know, Nico explained the ball to Morgan.

00:09:21

Morgan's putting a lovely float across in. Big nickel is coming. It's 11. And then Forest, in a way that, you know, far too infrequently down, if you like, the last 30 years, Forest went, you know what? We can win this.

00:09:34

Let's go and grab it. And they went and did it. And I thought, yeah, there was some con there was some controversy about Elliott's tackle on cash in the build up as there'd been controversy about the Morgan Rogers incident for the pound to earlier. But, okay, Elliot had all of Morgan, but Morgan had already tried to rip Elliot's shirt off his back. So I think, Sam Barrett looked at that, but 6 to 1 half does the other.

00:09:57

You know what I mean? But then, you know, to then go and do what they did and, you know, Elliot's Elliott I thought Elliott Anderson was the man of the match yesterday as he was at Old Trafford last week. He's he kinda he's another 1 goes under the radar a little bit because he's not a demonstrative figure. He's not a Yeah. Hey.

00:10:12

Look at me kinda. He's not an x factor player in the in the same way that, say, Morgan is or Callum is or something like that. He pulls the ball back, and there's Anthony. And I when I saw it going, I mean, there was this moment in euphoria, lots of human beings leaping about, like, molecules in the in the Trenton and everywhere else. It was a wonderful feeling of party atmosphere.

00:10:32

Absolutely amazing. But then I looked at Anthony, and I thought it's only 2 or 3 weeks ago since a lot of people were saying, well, if Newcastle offers 50,000,000 for him, we take him. Because Anthony was a sort of target. And that tells you about the unity of this squad. You know, the guy who'd been getting pelters recently popped up.

00:10:48

He he could've you know, he was unlucky in setting up Woody for the goal. It was just allowed. It was a lovely bit of football. He put the ball across, and then he was there, Johnny on the spot, stick it in the back of the net. And I came out of the ground literally buzzing.

00:11:02

The love of my club, the love of my team, the love of this particular iteration of this team. These lads are credit to themselves, to their families, and to this club. The way they play, the way they play for each other, the way they play for the coaching staff, the way they're playing for us. Yeah. There's gonna be some not so good days like they were sitting on that.

00:11:20

But, generally, what they're doing is they're creating a fantastic impression. They're making people sit up and notice in the media and elsewhere. You know, for many years, we've been a backwater. We're not now. And it's just this last 8 days, and I and I've got to I haven't really had a chance to wax lyrical about the Manchester United game.

00:11:39

But I think this last 8 days, you know, we've got, like, we've got to really savor it, and we've got the whole Cherry Seeds memories because if, you know, there might be a drop off there. 8 days of brilliant work. It took us 38 games to get to 32 points. We've got 28 after 16. It's 1 of the most remarkable turnarounds in a football team.

00:12:01

It's the most remarkable turnaround in a football team since we bought the championship and then got promoted. Yeah. And yesterday was truly wonderful, Matt.

00:12:08

Absolutely. No. Nice words, Dave. Spot on. Lots of people watching live Facebook, Nottingham Forest News, and YouTube.

00:12:14

Gary already read. Christine says, I'm in North Carolina, and Forest are making me very, very homesick. I will take it, though. Yeah. Absolutely, Christine.

00:12:21

And and in fact, Dave, you're like this. My dad's just smashing me now. I don't know if you can see this, but they're watching on the TV, and it says, having to see Dave on a big TV calls for a gin and tonic on a soda. There you go. You can see Garibaldi Reyes with,

00:12:36

a Christmas tree

00:12:37

in the Hayes household back home.

00:12:39

I mean, poor old Sarah was worried about how she was looking. She's far better than me. I mean, look at this. I'm like a landfill site, aren't they? You know what I mean?

00:12:49

You all look fine. You all look fine. Sarah, let's go back, to the first half really. And Dave mentioned it actually. It was a bit of an interesting, wasn't it?

00:12:58

Wasn't it? I I actually thought it was almost a a slight game of chess. It was quite back and forth. It was very tight. But then the second half, Forrest and and and Villa arguably came out and did the business, and it was much more entertaining.

00:13:12

And as Dave alludes to there, just the resilience of the team and and and that second half performance showed it, and shows the the skill almost that that Nuno and some of the players and and and the backroom staff have to go in at halftime and say, look. It it's still level. Things you know, it's quite a tight game, but we can still win this and almost have a game plan to go out there in the second half. And and, obviously, that's a testament to the side, isn't it?

00:13:37

Yeah. I mean, I watched that first half, and, it was, you know, it was it the I thought this isn't probably a great game of football for neutral on the telly, is it, on a a Saturday night? But he went in at halftime and I thought I think he's gonna come. I mean, this is what he does, Nuno, doesn't he? He he kind of tactics them.

00:13:58

He comes out and he seems to see what we need to change, where the where the spaces are, how we need to play. Well, obviously that's what he gets paid for, but he's doing it really well. And, I think that's what he did. And and I kind of half expected it. And although they went ahead, of play.

00:14:20

I mean, I don't did that was that the only shot they had on target all game? I think it was, wasn't it? So, I didn't look scared of them at all. I didn't like see them. And I know they're playing midweek.

00:14:31

I know I've listened I've listened to some of the phonings on 606 and there was an Aston Villa fan saying that they tired in the last 20 minutes. I probably

00:14:40

put him on air.

00:14:46

Time I hear. Gas mark. Gas mark 7, actually.

00:14:49

I thought, well, that's fair enough because he played midweek, but I don't know about you, but I watched Matty Cash for that last goal. And he was expecting the ball to land at his feet. He turned away from the ball, and Murasso just didn't Murasso just intercepted it. And I thought, what's

00:15:03

he doing?

00:15:04

And then, obviously, there was a bit of a fury, wasn't there? And he loses it again. And I thought that was although we could argue that that was a foul, it was a bit lazy, wasn't it, by cash? He didn't look like he wasn't really fighting for that. He just thought, well, I'll just get the foul.

00:15:18

Mhmm.

00:15:19

And he

00:15:19

didn't give it, and I thought, great. You know? So but, no, what a great second. What a great 20 minutes. Last 20 minutes.

00:15:27

It was brilliant. I absolutely loved it. I've watched every minute of that game again about 6 times over today. I've watched match of the day. God knows how many times I listen to every podcast I probably can.

00:15:38

But yeah, no, it's great. And Nunu just seems to be getting better and better. And that was an absolute perfect display, wasn't it? And I don't think there's a better way of winning it. I actually almost enjoyed enjoyed that more than, Manu last week, even though Manu was a great scalp away.

00:15:54

Hadn't done it for all the history and everything. But to do it at home, and that's what they said earlier on, wasn't it? We needed a big scalp at home, and that's what we got, I think, yesterday. Because I don't know about you guys, but we've got some friends of ILLA fans and always so positive and they always have lots of good things to say about their team. And I know not all of them, but I think a lot of them probably would have expected to win that yesterday.

00:16:21

I don't know. Because they seem to be or apart from being in Europe that week, in the week, they would have expected to win that. But I know we beat them last year, didn't we, too, Neil at the City Ground? So

00:16:33

Yeah. Well yeah. No. Absolutely. Our podcast producer, Danny, who's a villa fan, said that it'd be a draw.

00:16:38

So and I think so many people predicted it would it would be a draw as as Yeah.

00:16:42

I predicted it a draw as well on 5 live yesterday morning.

00:16:48

I did put

00:16:48

you through then, Sarah. Alright.

00:16:50

So it's too early.

00:16:51

Yeah. It was. I was asleep. Right. Let's I mean, Dave, in in in fact, just actually staying on that and and the last 20 minutes in particular, I was gonna touch on it later on the podcast, but now we've kinda got onto it.

00:17:05

Is it just another almost sign of the togetherness, of the passion, of the fight, almost resilience from the team? And and and shows how far we've come. And, you know, of course, we talk about Steve Cooper, and we thank him for everything we you know, he did.

00:17:19

But Yeah.

00:17:20

Nuno has been an upgrade. I don't think anyone can argue on that. Nuno has been an upgrade. The side's been upgraded in the summer with spot on recruitment. You look at the likes of Milenkovic, Anderson that we'll get on to shortly, but it is an upgrade.

00:17:33

And and and there just seems to be that, maybe not fight, but almost resilience that when Forest now go a goal down, you feel like they're gonna get back into the game. And and and as Sarah said, you're not scared of other teams now. And almost, Dave, I can remember you said it so many times on the podcast last season and even before when Forrester on you know, when we've done all the bits and pieces. When Forest had been in these relegation fights and and you've said, we show teams way too much respect. This season, it feels different, and it and it seems that we almost put our own stamp on the game.

00:18:03

Would you agree?

00:18:05

Yes. I would. I think the last 2 c I mean, you know, I think what it is yeah. Yeah. You could say, you know, there's an upgrade on Steve and all this business, but, you know, without Steve, mostly, he wouldn't be sitting here talking now.

00:18:20

Steve I've seen certain people give Steve some flack and all that kind of stuff. You know? But Steve Steve did I'm just gonna touch on Steve a little minute. Steve did what Vincent Conley couldn't do, which Russell Martin appears unable to do, which rude band mister Roy still has to prove he can do. He kept us up.

00:18:38

So if you ask Nuno, Nuno will be forever grateful for the platform that Steve gave him to build on, and it's just a natural evolution. So what Steve did was fantastic, but I think Steve gave so much. He was empty at the end, and I think it was the right thing to do to change it. I think what's happened with this team is they're no I used to feel they I mean, it's so much like I don't think they I don't think they really had an idea of of just how capable they were. And I think what's happened is I think the last 2 seasons, it's been a case of we just need to stay a Premier League team.

00:19:15

And I and and they've done that, which is to their great credit. I mean, you know, last season wasn't pretty, but hey ho, we're in a different part of the universe now to Cheffyganite, Luton Town, and Burnley. Right? They've got to be where we are. And without that, almost a bit of suffering that we've gone through these last 2 seasons, I think those those 2 seasons of suffering have taught Forrest a lot.

00:19:38

They I think what they the the greatest quality that they taught this this team, this squad is humility. I don't see anybody, you know, getting sticking their head above the parapet and and speaking out of turn. I'm not saying they're all you know, I'm sure there'll be disagreements. You know, a group of a group of young elite athletes like that, there's gonna be days where they don't all get on. They don't all agree.

00:20:01

But I think by and large, I just see a family. And I see a family that, you know, on and off the pitch, the dressing room, the pitch, in the squad. I see the coaching staff then being brought into the family. And then bless them with what they're doing, They're bringing all of us into it. And so they're bringing us all together acting as a unifying force.

00:20:23

And a city ground that acts as a, you know, a unified city ground, there are very few, more difficult places to go and play football as a visiting team. I'm gonna say anywhere in the world, it's a hostile atmosphere when it gets going. And that last 20 minutes was an encapsulation of that. And and I'm Villa, who had they've got a brilliant coach. They've done incredible things, Villa.

00:20:49

I watched them against Leipzig in the week. They were absolutely sublime. I thought I was it was a superb performance. Yeah. Maybe they tied, but Villa still played some good football yesterday.

00:20:57

But I think with Forest, it's just this realization that, hey ho, we're we can be more than the sum of our parts. The first indication I got of it, Max, was the night at the, FanTrust listening to Yeatsy. I was very, very lucky, and thanks to Steve Bennett for that. It allowed me to code to that and listening to Ryan Yeats talk. And it was just before Anfield, and a little lad said to Yates little lad was brilliant.

00:21:24

Ryan, can we win at Anfield, mate? And Yates went, well, mate, it's gonna be difficult because, you know, it's Liverpool. It's there. It's the history. It's the COP and all that that business.

00:21:36

He said, but what I will tell you, we in the dressing room, after 2 years of battling a way to get to this point, we feel we've got it within our capability to go and vex some of these teams and maybe get something. That's how we feel now. 2 days later, the team, the squad were as good as Yates' word. And I think what we're finding now is stories to like it's almost like they paid their dues by struggling for 2 seasons. Right?

00:22:04

We've had enough of that. Let's go and put our stamp on it. They did it I mean, if you like, they did it at at at Old Trafford last year where they were 2 up in 4 minutes, but weren't good enough to see it through. And the evolution was like they were up up in 2 minutes at Old Trafford last week and then pegged back, and then, hey ho, we went again. And what Forests are finding now is I think they're fitter than they've been for a while.

00:22:27

So they're they're kind of getting to the point where they're out running to. If they were tired from Leipzig and and what they did last week against Southampton, then Forest Fitness put them on the back foot because Forest Forrest were coming on and on and on. Yep. He looked at at the end of that game, Max, what I would say, and this is a great credit to Nuno, his team, his coaching staff, and the lads themselves with what they're doing in training, is that Forrest looked like they could have played for another 90 minutes. Villa will begin to flag.

00:22:55

As Sarah says, the the the the lead up to the winner that Anthony scored, there was a bit of time played by both teams. Like, Forest tried to play a ball, and it went nowhere. Callum tried to play a ball around the the full back. It got intercepted, and then Villa kinda gave it away. The key moment in it was 1 of my favorite 2 bailiffs in Nottingham, Murato, with his other mate, Malenkovic.

00:23:17

Murato, still then as a bailiff, said, no. I'll take that. He gave the ball. I think men I mean, Caliply, and they put Elliott in, you know, wins wins his wins his wins his duel with Matty Cash. And you know what?

00:23:29

That was good refereeing because that's like the referee Sam Barrett looked at me. That's 2 2 2 laps battling for the ball hard. Let's see who wins it. Elliott won it. He got in the box.

00:23:36

He pulled it back. And I just think, it's this family feeling about the way they play. And you you watch the match day pass videos. You see the training. They're all laughing and joking.

00:23:48

I mean, give

00:23:48

me great work this weekend as well with the food bank, the the the fun zone.

00:23:53

They did. And and and with the the the kids, the wonderful kids and the warriors united, they're showing I think Forest is showing morality this year, which at times in the past has escaped us. And I think sometimes if you get the morality right, life gives you your rewards. And everywhere I look at the moment with Nottingham Forest, I just see good things being done with with the supporters groups, with, you know, home home for Christmas and the food bank and all this kind of stuff. But most importantly, the football.

00:24:21

You know what I mean? And and and yesterday was just it just made me think they are world. You've been questioning Nottingham Forest. If you want some evidence that Nottingham Forest are I'm not seeing a good team yet. This is still a long way this season to go and you know?

00:24:37

But if we what I would say for certain is Nottingham Forest are a better team than they've been the last season.

00:24:43

Of course. Spot on, mate. And especially about kind of almost the rewards, I think, mate, I think I think massively. And I think in football, I I just sometimes think that you do kinda make your own look at times maybe, especially with that. And and as especially with yesterday, I think there was obviously some not controversial season because it didn't really I don't think each of them massively impacted the game as such, especially the little fouls.

00:25:05

Obviously, Woods' offside goal does influence the game, but it seems like it evens itself out.

00:25:10

Do you know what, Max? I'm gonna be really pretentious. It's a Kipling poem. If you can meet triumph and disaster and treat the 2 impostors the same, then my son, you'll be a man. And what Forrest did, they went, okay.

00:25:24

We had to go disallowed. Okay. Martinez has made this astonishing save. Forrest could have said, well, well, it's not our day. But they didn't.

00:25:32

And they said, okay. We've had these setbacks. We go again. And Forrest proved that they've got character. They've got they've got strength, not they've got they've got this physical fitness, I think, and they've got this they've got this mental strength, which could see them through to something quite remarkable.

00:25:50

How remarkable, we don't know. Yeah.

00:25:53

Yeah. No. Absolutely. Sarah, what did you make of the the the wood vehicle? I mean, is it it it is tight.

00:26:00

They take so long to decide on it. I just think I think this semi automated off-site technology can't come soon enough that they're talking about because maybe that would, I don't know, rule it on-site. I I I just don't know. I think, you know, you see the line, and it's Anthony Alanger and just the shoulder and the way it is. It's it is just so tight.

00:26:17

What did you think? Should it have stood? Or

00:26:20

Well, I'm gonna say I think it should have stood. Yeah. But it took 3 and a half minutes. It's absolute nonsense. And he's not gonna score a goal from there with his shoulder.

00:26:30

Did we get an advantage? I don't think so. They're gonna have to I I personally think we should look at the whole the rule because this I think how do they actually know the moment, the actual precise millisecond that that ball left? And was it, Gibbs White's fault. When do they actually they don't.

00:26:51

They haven't got that technology. They've said it all along. So how did they know that it was at that precise moment that he was offside? They don't. And if they're having to look at it for 3 and a half minutes, there should be a there should be an amount and then they should say, actually, we can't tell, give it.

00:27:06

That's what I think. Because this is just this this isn't sport. This isn't excitement. This save. And, that that they off the offside.

00:27:23

And and they could have had a penalty, you know, so it could have been an easily a 4:2 game or a 3:2 game. But for everybody, the spectators. That's what that's what football is, isn't it? It's it's it's an enjoyment. It's like people wanna see the the rush of a goal and not sit there for 3 and a half minutes and wait for them to decide that his, like, sleeve on his shirt maybe was offside or his his armpit.

00:27:49

I mean, this is this is stupid. I mean, I don't I can't even I can't really understand what advantage he had. So no. And I felt for Ila Langa because he's at like, Dave said earlier, he's had loads of bad press. And to me, I think got after the Ipswich game, what I thought about him.

00:28:13

I wasn't gonna slate him because he's a young player and I'm sure he's beaten himself up about it. Oh, he said that anyway, didn't he, on Saturday night? Position. You know, I mean, I know he, you know, I know he has been playing, but he's kind of reduced his minutes, somewhat. And he's obviously working on more tactics and where, you know, where he can get his goals from.

00:28:42

But he was just brilliant when he came on, wasn't he? I mean, he was like back to his his best last last season. So whatever Nuno's doing is brilliant. Anthony Langer came on was was great. But yeah, no, I think, I mean, they're all saying it, all the pundits are saying it.

00:29:04

Yesterday, that needs changing. Just very casually, because I presume you can't say too much. But everyone's, nobody wants it. Who made that decision? Who made that rule book?

00:29:14

Change it. It's

00:29:16

it's ridiculous.

00:29:17

The outside world's gone mad.

00:29:19

Yeah. The worst thing, Sarah, and everything you say though is absolutely spot on. I could not agree more with you. You just spoke beautifully about that. It's the standing around in the ground and we're all looking around and we're looking at each other and what goes on.

00:29:33

A game of football, there are other sports which are set piece games. Cricket is a set piece game, rugby union, rugby league, NFL, All these games are set piece games. Tennis is a set piece game. Football, if you like, is is kind of 1 45 minutes of fluid movement. This hither and thither this way and that, and the same again.

00:29:54

And the last thing you want in football is a sort of a, you know, a hiatus like that and the it's a short changing of people in the stadiums because people at home can see and often the commentators on the telly get to hear what's being said at Stockley Park. Everybody in the city ground yesterday for 3 or 4 minutes,

00:30:13

you know,

00:30:13

would start looking around. This poor this lovely fella stood behind me and he was he was like, playing. I watched him. He didn't know I was what I was talking to. And I watched him and I thought, mate, your body language is saying it for all of us.

00:30:25

It's this business of they shouldn't keep us waiting and and they should let the game go back.

00:30:31

It's got worse, hasn't it? That waiting's come it's worse, isn't it?

00:30:35

I think, yeah.

00:30:36

And What's changed? Because it's worse because we're having it almost every other game now where we wait I mean, we had 1 the other week, didn't we, which was, like, ages. We were sat we stood there waiting sat there waiting. But I don't remember it being so often before it they seem to sort it a bit quicker or they never go over to the

00:30:56

I I I think if you watch the World Cup and the Euros

00:30:59

Well, that was that was a

00:31:00

lot better. Far, far better than what's happening in this country at the moment. Yeah. I think that

00:31:04

was There's no English wrestler involved. That was what I was Yeah.

00:31:06

Yeah. Yeah. I think No. I'm just bringing

00:31:08

it back further now in the game. So it's they're bringing it further back from, you know I don't know. Like, looking at each pass further back. I don't know. It it just seems

00:31:18

I think I think I think 1 of the biggest things is that you're right. I think it's the time it takes. And I also feel that they take so long because they don't wanna they they try they try not to get the decision wrong, and they're all sat at Stockley Park wondering, oh, yeah. Well, we've gotta take a while, and we gotta take a while. And you're right, Sarah, because they never you very rarely see them send the referee to the monitor for a decision like that if if it's that close.

00:31:40

Because, really, if if if you let the referee

00:31:44

and they didn't put the flag up, they should give it.

00:31:48

Yeah. And it

00:31:48

And the bit of the doubt the benefit of the doubt for the attacker was set on matches out. I think it was either Theo Walker or Ashley Williams said it, and I thought, yeah, lads. Bang on.

00:31:57

Yeah. Because we want

00:31:58

to see goals. We I think the worst thing I watched, Bardy scored very early against West Ham, a couple of Mondays back. And he's standing around with his hands on his hips. I'm like, I've scored over not. And then after this waiting, then he gets to celebrate.

00:32:13

And it's almost like, it's faked because it's not spontaneous. It's like a, you know, like a piece of pleasure in life that's thwarted. And these lads are now what they're doing? I I watched I watched I watched Woody several times, especially at Trenton because he gets quite close to where I'm sat. And and the action of of playing a playing a ball or scoring a goal or whatever gets smoked about because Woody's looking at what the linesman's doing.

00:32:40

Do you know what I mean? It's just ridiculous.

00:32:44

Moving on from VR. And I I just I think that the the only way they could make it I think it's the communication that that is the big part. And they've tried putting these messages up on the big screen and showing it and things, but I just feel like the referee

00:32:57

should be technology.

00:32:58

Yeah. But don't

00:32:58

actually have the technology. They haven't got enough cameras to say when that ball left that guy's tone and and and that and Anthony Langer was, you know, the player was offside. They said that months ago, didn't they, or years ago. They haven't got that technology. And if they have now, I don't know.

00:33:14

But Yeah. It it's like so how can they be sure that he was a millimeter? Either can't. So just give the goal.

00:33:21

It's a waiting game.

00:33:22

It's no it makes no difference anyway because we won the game, but even so, it would have been, you know, just more it's just everyone wants to see that goal. Every team wants to see goals.

00:33:32

Absolutely. Yeah. And thankfully, we won the game. So, thank God we're not talking about it. You know, we're not talking about losing the game.

00:33:38

We wouldn't

00:33:38

have done that last year. That's the difference.

00:33:41

Yeah. Well, there'd have been another statement put out or something like a a a letter and the letter.

00:33:47

Nottingham Forest Nottingham Forest is considering their options. Yeah. It's I'll say that. What options? You got no options.

00:33:54

Deal with it. You know what I mean?

00:33:57

Alright. Let's, I mean, let's talk about some key players, and we obviously touched on them a little little short while ago, but Anthony Ilanger, just great to see just great to see him on the score sheet. Yeah. Obviously, he'd have had that assist if the goal would have stood. I I thought great performance, sums up Nuno Subs.

00:34:14

I thought in game management was brilliant, and, yeah, I just thought I thought, you know, nice to see him on on the pitch doing what Anthony should do and, will do his confidence the world a good day. And we've talked about it a lot with players having to prove things at at the club. And maybe Anthony has the last couple of weeks because he hasn't been great. But as Sarah said, you know, the coaching staff have almost kinda worked with him and and almost eased him back in a little bit. And and Nuno knows what he's doing with players that are going through bad times.

00:34:42

He's been in the game long enough. He's played the game, and he's worked in it for for for a long time. He knows, but nice to see him on the score sheet. It would do his confidence the world of good, and you never know. You know?

00:34:53

He he he could pick up some form and and and really almost turn his not turn his seeds around. I don't mean that in a really critical way, but but just turn his kind of, you know, little bit of a dip around.

00:35:04

Oh, yeah. I I just think when I watched I I did didn't really listen to Anthony's interview after the match? Yeah. Anthony is a highly educated intellectual, very intelligent young man. I think he speaks about 6 or 7 languages, and I thought he spoke beautifully.

00:35:20

And because I think Anthony because he's such an intelligent guy, and I I just get the impression with Anthony, he looks from a distance, it just made some eyes in. Seems like quite a deep thinker. So my guess is that when Anthony thinks he's had a bad game, he's probably gone away and stood about it. And I I think maybe and and and the I think where the difference comes between Steve and Nuno, Steve, I think, was always a brother figure, probably because of his age and all that. Nuno is a bit more of a father figure.

00:35:47

So I think and Nuno, I think, has got this perception of why when a player needs it. I'm sure Nuno will have had Anthony in the office and said, look, mate. They're gonna be good days and gonna be bad days. Let's try and get some good days, you know, more good days than bad days. And then let's sit and talk about them shortly.

00:36:03

Very intelligent conversation between the 2 of them. And Anthony struck me yesterday. Like, when I looked at him, I was so pleased that he kind of made such an impact on the game. He's clearly popular in the squad, but then I think they all seem popular with each other. And there's that good nice social feeling in the squad.

00:36:22

But I looked down to Neil Lang, and I thought, yeah, there's human beings in a nutshell. You have good days and you have bad days. Where I get irritated is, you know, certain fans go, he made a mistake there, so that defines his whole career and his whole playing style. Well, then if Anthony scored yesterday, does that define it instead? And everybody's short term.

00:36:42

It's almost I sometimes feel if a player does 20 things and 19 of them are foot perfect, but 1 isn't, the vast majority of football fans will hone in on the 1 that went wrong and hammer them for it. Right? Me, I'm Brian Clough, the greatest of them all. The greatest of them all. They used to say about John Robertson can't do this.

00:37:05

John Robertson can't do that. And probably you say, why should I get John Robertson to do things he can't do? I just want him to do things he can do. And that's where the greatest created our greatest ever player. You know what I mean?

00:37:17

And he said, I think Nuno is getting I thought I thought Nuno what Nuno did yesterday, I I talked to a couple of people after is I talked to somebody I respect a lot, and he was saying it was a master class of coaching. There were a lot of, like, why has he left Josa Silva out and put Dominguez in? Who's gonna play on the right hand side and all this kind of stuff? Kind of thought, well, he's kind of unbalanced the team, but it worked perfectly. I thought Dominguez had a really good game.

00:37:39

He goes under the radar. I love that guy. You know, he was the guy, I mean, the header to force the great save. And I think I I let's say, the first 6 minutes, it was so even. I kinda thought how far we've come to be even with these who are champions league team.

00:37:53

That is progress right there. But then to go to that next level was fantastic. And I think Nuno facilitated that with the way he picked the team, and he set them up. I mean, my first thought in the time when I saw the team was, oh, Elliott's gonna go out and play on the right. But then Elliott seemed to be popping up wherever he felt like it.

00:38:09

Dominguez the same. Ola, he's smashing nominally right back. It's almost like Ola had a really commission to go wherever he feel. And and is there a better 2 footed footballer in in the league at the moment? All of them go both ways.

00:38:21

What he can do I mean, it's astonishing that it's taking this long to be an established really good Premier League, which is now. You know? So I thought I think the way Nuno set them up, and I think the mood that he creates is just masterclass stuff. And I think I mean, you know, he was up against 1 of the great coaches yesterday. I mean, what he's done, he's gone to Liverpool.

00:38:44

He's out for slot, who and Liverpool are running away in the league and running away in Europe. No. No. No. Outthought it.

00:38:51

He then went did it he he handed Amarin his backside on a silver platter last week, but that didn't take much to him because United are reported. Yesterday, he was up against Emery, who, if he left Villa, would be 1 of the most sought after coaches in the world, and Nuno kinda dealt with him. He contained him for an hour, and then he put him in his place. And, okay, Villa Villa Villa, maybe rightly were angry about the penalty that we didn't get. So they'll be saying we're saying let's bin VAR because we that goal should have been allowed to stand.

00:39:22

Villa will be saying let's bin VAR because Morgan Rogers was pulled by by Elliot Anderson. But I think Nuno is creating an environment that allows all of these guys I think what he's got, he's got a lovely blend. They can all do different things, different personalities, and it's like a jigsaw that fits together at the moment. And it's just such a you know, we've suffered for so long in years in the championship league 1, fallow years where we had nothing to talk about. All the Leplands who've been going to Forrester recently have nothing to talk about.

00:39:52

4th, we we're now in a Champions League spot. It may not stay that way, but we're above the supposed biggest club in the world, Manchester City. If somebody said to me on August 14th when we started against Bournemouth, this is where you'll be on December 15th. I said, are you on magic mushrooms? And here we are, and it's to their great credit.

00:40:12

The job now and Nuno will say this. The job now is to make it count and go on and do more.

00:40:18

Yeah. You know

00:40:18

what I mean? It's wonderful.

00:40:20

Absolutely, mate. Magic mushrooms, that made me laugh.

00:40:25

Mud mushrooms, mate. I don't know.

00:40:27

Yeah. Yeah. Maybe. Just to put it into context as well about Anthony Elanga, he's had 17 goals and assists since the start of the last Premier League season. Right?

00:40:36

That's the most by any under 22 player not named Cole Palmer. So second in that in that stat. So, you know, from all the criticism, the stats don't lie, and and and the stats put him high up in terms of that goals and assists, table since the start of last season. Good to see him back on the score sheet. Another player, Sarah, that we seem to talk about every week on this podcast, but, you know, we can't go without not mentioning him, Elliot Anderson, just fantastic again.

00:41:02

I thought if there was ever a game actually yesterday for for a very long time and Forest have had great wins this season. There's been great performances. In fact, the last time this happened was when Morgan gives White. I thought I had a had a amazing game against Fulham to make it, you know, and it was obviously 3 nil in April last season. I thought Elliot Anderson ran the show yesterday.

00:41:21

I thought that was a game where he fitted in perfectly, and he did everything right, and that was almost his game. And and he walks away from that with a lot of the plaudits, albeit he didn't score. He created the most chances, which was 4. He completed the most dribbles, 3. He made the most tackles, 5, and he won the most duels the most across the game, and obviously assisted the first goal as well.

00:41:42

That just sums him up, doesn't it, Sarah? And people laughed at us for for for for buying him in the summer. You know? I mean, Forest have have have massively proved them wrong, haven't they? And, you know, he he's got so much potential, hasn't he?

00:41:55

And he's gonna keep getting better and better.

00:41:58

Well, he's getting them stats nearly every game, isn't he? Plays. Yeah. So it's I feel I

00:42:02

feel like I read them out every week. Yeah.

00:42:03

Yeah. And he's 1 of those players that, you know, he's doing a great job, but he's you read them at the end and go, oh, wow. I didn't realize that. Because but he he had a battle on yesterday with Rogers, didn't he? And, Yeah.

00:42:16

He frustrated the hell out of him. And I thought it was great because he's he's just a no nonsense midfielder. He's like, you think you're gonna get past me? No chance. You think you're gonna get that ball?

00:42:28

No. You know, and it was, you know, he didn't win them all, but what a great sign in. I don't think we've paid 35,000,000 for him, but I'm not gonna go into the accounts. But I know that a lot of the Newcastle fans didn't think we were mad signing him. Yeah.

00:42:43

Whether people outside of Newcastle did. I know my boss who's a Newcastle fan was like, oh my God, you've got 1 of our talents there. We, you know, we've had to sell him because of financial well, it's not financial fair, but anyway, PS. PSR. Premier

00:42:58

League sustainability rules, yeah?

00:43:00

Yeah. So, Premier League.

00:43:04

So,

00:43:05

yeah, no. He's great. He's brilliant. And he's just getting better. And he doesn't say a lot.

00:43:09

He goes about his business, doesn't it? He, you know, he's not 1 of the the ones I mean, when he did that assist, he just turned away, he put his hands in the air, and he was just like, yeah. And until you're like, you know, he's just a no nonsense kind of guy. He's brilliant, isn't he? But yeah, every every game, every game we're getting it.

00:43:27

I mean, he could be, if he stays with, if we can manage to keep hold of him, he could be 1 of our, you know, brilliant signings of of of this era.

00:43:40

I think. I think that Nottingham Forest have made the 2 best signings that any team has made See this this last window.

00:43:51

You're gonna take it?

00:43:53

No, well everyone's gonna everyone's gonna say that, aren't they?

00:43:56

And Elliot Anderson is the other. And I love Elliot Anderson. I call Elliot Anderson stone face because he gives nothing away in his expression. When the girl went in and it was on the telly, I saw it late when I got home and I watched it again. What he does, he doesn't take Anthony's glory from him.

00:44:13

He lets Anthony be the man. Anthony, he kinda turns away and he do that. And his expression doesn't change. He doesn't give much away. I remember my favorite bit Ellie Anderson.

00:44:22

The thing about Ellie Anderson is he does the the mucky stuff in midfield, the kind of Dominguez Yates style of the store, but he can also do the Gibbs White type of stuff. This kid is so versatile. My favorite bit of Elliot Anderson was when he gave Callum gave him his birthday present on the training ground. Callum being Callum,

00:44:40

you know, because Callum and Ollie

00:44:41

are like the other like. So a couple of battling tops, aren't they? Like, so excitable. And Calvin's brother who got to be on the east going, Elliot, Elliot, I've got your birthday thing. And Elliot went, how are you, man?

00:44:51

That's quite can you do that? And he just he was just completely dead, Panavari.

00:44:55

Good impression there.

00:44:56

I just thought I just thought yeah. And then just Elliot Elliot Anderson. If I was playing against the Elliot Anderson, like yesterday, Morgan Rogers and Elliott Anderson became a duo. And and then Morgan Rogers is a hell of a good young player. He's gonna be a brilliant player, if he isn't already.

00:45:10

He had a lot of time to watch a Morgan Rogers. But if Morgan Rogers thought he was gonna put off Elliot and wind Elliot up, Elliot's face said, total poker face. Nah, mate. Not a minute. And I thought I thought he's wonderful.

00:45:24

I love this kid. He's brilliant.

00:45:26

Yeah. Absolutely. £28,000,000. That's how much Milenkovich and, Anderson cost if you discount, you know, if you if you take all the BSR into it and stuff with Newcastle and do the accounts, which we ain't gonna do because we're not a, financial podcast. Thank god.

00:45:43

Let's I mean, let's talk about another player actually. In fact, he's just cracked me up because while I'm doing this podcast, my boss from work has just messaged me and put above city in the table exclamation mark is this football manager question mark w t f? Yeah. It's kinda right, isn't it? Yeah.

00:45:59

Know, I'm gonna keep just like that.

00:46:00

I'm watching, like, podcasts and, like, the sky's, like, going, Forrest is this was obviously when we were 5th. Forrest is sitting 5th. We've just beat Man United, and I'm, like, going, what football dimension am I watching? Because, like, 3 years, 3, 4 years ago, I was like, we were like bottom of the championship table. We were dreaming.

00:46:18

My husband was going, I'm never gonna see Forrest in the Premier League again. And now I'm going to him. This, you know, what if this is our best season? What if what if this is it for years? What if we've gotta drink it in and just enjoy it, haven't we?

00:46:31

Yeah. Because who who knows? How good how good does it get? I don't know. Does it does it can it get better than this?

00:46:38

Yeah. I think so. I I I think I think it can. The only way is up. Yeah.

00:46:44

Right. Let's touch on and I think a player that that we have talked a little bit about, and we're not gonna go through all because there were there were so many standout performances, but

00:46:51

Oh, I'm captain Alan Watts Nadori, he never stopped, did he?

00:46:54

Yeah. I I was I was literally just about to come on to him, Sarah.

00:46:57

Oh, I'm sorry.

00:46:58

No. It's alright. Don't worry. No. No.

00:47:00

It's alright. You're all good. What did you what did you make of Callum? I just thought, again, Yesoor is is is almost, you know, in in involvement with that last goal. It it's it's just him him him and Anthony Elanga when when they're on it are are just 2 brilliant players.

00:47:17

And and, again, you forget how almost little that they've cost Forrest as well. Sarah.

00:47:24

Is that is that Sarah?

00:47:25

No. Yeah.

00:47:25

Go on, Sarah.

00:47:26

I'm sick of you, Dave. Go on, Sarah.

00:47:27

Yeah. I'm sick of me. I know.

00:47:30

Well, I I watch him every obviously, I watch him every game, and I just think, you know he's just he's just everywhere. Isn't he? I mean he's brilliant and I know he's trying. I know he tries to cut in and I know he but you know he's a sister Morgan last week and he nearly got an you know he nearly got another 1 from for, Ryan Yates, didn't he? Unfortunately, Ryan Yates couldn't have his shooting boots on this time, but it was almost the same move, wasn't it?

00:47:56

Apart from they didn't have to, retrieve it from, the opposition. Yeah, it was, he's brilliant. He's just it just moves the ball so well between his feet, doesn't he? He's like that left, right, left, right, and he's and they don't they can't deal with him at all because he's so fast. He's just quality.

00:48:17

And I think that's the thing with him, isn't he? He is he is a quality player and, yeah, he can't believe what we paid for him. That he's just daft. Absolutely daft. And again, we've made to keep we've managed to keep him fit.

00:48:32

And he's not had any tool touch wood major injuries. So, what were we? Something like second bottom of the injury list in the Premier League this that came out.

00:48:44

Yeah, it was. Yeah, well, you're right. Yeah.

00:48:46

Of days lost to injury. I mean, obviously, we've lost Danilo since day 1 and Sangari for ages. So I think that's I know he was a bit injured last year, wasn't he? But he seems to have managed really well. And I don't know whether that's like the new, like, coaching staff that's implemented and everything because yeah.

00:49:09

No. Absolutely brilliant. I'm sure Dave can can add a bit more onto that for me.

00:49:14

I think Callum Hudson O'Doy is a wonderful story. Mhmm.

00:49:18

I I

00:49:19

think Callum Hudson O'Doy is he's kind of symbolic of a lot of them in this squad. Nuno himself, they're on recovery missions. They've had low points in careers. Callum Hudson Odoi at Chelsea, and he's, you know, playing for England. He was kind of like the coming force, the new kid on the block.

00:49:39

You know, I think at 1 point, Bayern Munich offered 70,000,000 for him, and then he had Paul Adada an horrendous injury. Never then quite got back to that level for 1 reason or another. And I think he what I love about Calum Hudson Odoi is he, had advisers, family, whatever, and they say, look, you know, Nottingham Forest are offering 3,000,000 for you. It's not a lot. And Callum Hudson O'Doy, to his great credit, went, that's a chance for me to get my career back on track.

00:50:13

That's a chance for redemption for me. He he he, you know, maybe if he had come from Chelsea earlier in his career, he might have been a bit this, that and the other. No, he never arrived. He never arrived like that. He came

00:50:26

I think Steve Cooper was a big said that.

00:50:32

Because I think he goes back to the the on the 17th World Cup win. Which, you know, Steve Yep. Again, people are hammering Steve. Steve's won a World Cup. A lot of other Yeah.

00:50:42

But I think with Callum, I remember seeing Callum, he signed and then the very next night, first of the an EFL trophy game at Harrogate, where it's mainly the the the kids playing. And the only 2 senior pros that night that got off the bus at Harrogate, so went to it. And if you go into Harrogate Town, have the food. The food in Harrogate Town Stadium is fantastic. Right?

00:51:00

The pie and chips there. Absolutely superb.

00:51:01

Never been, Dave.

00:51:03

No. Honestly, it's beautiful little football ground. Anyway, the forest coach pulled up. All the kids got off. Your Josh Powells and your Garners and your Nadins and all that.

00:51:10

They all got off. And the last few of those Felipe got off the bus, and basically every, women within about 50 mile radius all swoon because the most people human beings ever been. Right? And then the last 1 off the bus was Callum Hudson Adoane. I remember he got off the bus and we just sort of stood there taking photos.

00:51:26

And I just said to him, nice to have you, mate. Hope it goes well for you. We're right behind you. And he went he went and he got he said he said, thank you very much. I'll do my best for you.

00:51:36

And I watch him now, and he's getting back to that point where, you know, if Calum can keep his consistency and Thomas Tuchel's knocking out wingers for England, Callum could come into the into the ring. You know, there was talk at the end of last season that people were like putting bids in for Callum. I think what he's done is like that. Yeah. He has the odd game where he's not quite, you know, quite seen, but Wenger's gonna be like that.

00:51:57

And I think that goes for all 4 of us. I think he goes for Anthony. I think he goes for Cal. I think he goes for Jota. I think he goes for Ramon Tozan.

00:52:05

You know, these are 4 really, really good wide guys we've got. But I love Callum Hudson Odoi. Every time he gets on the ball, it was like the days when Brennan was here. Every time Brennan got the ball, you kinda alright. Something's gonna happen.

00:52:17

And I feel like that with Callum. And then, hopefully, I can feel that, you know, that I do with Callum. With Anthony on a more regular basis, but I think Callum Hudson Adore is just I think he's he's like I say, he's emblematic of the humility and the hard work, and I've got something to prove for so many in this squad starting with the manager because people would say, he was rubbish at Tottenham. Yeah. Tottenham Tottenham are unmanageable.

00:52:52

If I if I was Ansh I'm gonna be controversial. If I was Ansh Bostock, I'd say They

00:52:56

are winning 3 nil at the minute, by the way.

00:52:58

Oh, are they?

00:52:59

Yeah. Oh. Has Russell has has Russell Martin changed his way of playing to try and keep Southampton up? Steve Steve Cooper changed after Leicester for for his time.

00:53:09

He did. He did. Yeah.

00:53:10

He did. But anyway, there's so many more players we could mention, but but but time running out, it's, yeah, it's getting late on a Sunday, and I don't wanna keep you too both long. I've I've I've wanted to touch on it, and I'm I'm asking everybody as we do podcasts around the Christmas period, where can Forest finish this season? And it is early, and I know I know, you know, we say that, Dave, you've said it to me many a times, don't get ahead of yourselves. Remember you kinda have a little having a little giggle to yourself when I predicted Forrest to finish 12th at the start of the season.

00:53:43

Where where can Forrest finish this season, Dave? Honestly, you know, we're sat now Sunday 15th December. We're talking about Forrest being 4th. I won't say there's easy games coming up because there's never easy games. It was winnable games coming up for Forrest.

00:53:57

We could be even in an an even better position come the end of, you know, come the start of 2025.

00:54:03

Yeah.

00:54:03

Where are Forest finishing at the end of the season?

00:54:06

Well, taking the short term, Max, I'm gonna stick my neck out here, and I might get clipped to this. But, you know, everybody's been talking about apparently, Brentford are invincible at home, and nobody on Earth in the universe can beat Brentford at the Gtech. I think we'll beat Brentford next week because it's become a thing. I I thought yesterday draw against Villa because Villa are a good side with lots of but as soon as we start talking up this Brentford thing, I'm thinking, fanciers to win there. Where Forrest can finish, I'm actually

00:54:38

I'm Go into position. Come on.

00:54:40

Oh, god, man. I keep changing. At the start of season, based on last season, give me 17th. Then if we keep this up, if this can be maintained, I think a top half finish is well within Forest Compass. And and I and I can't believe I'm saying it.

00:54:57

7th? 8th?

00:55:00

Mean, to me to me, a successful season, is a bottom line now in this context will be 11th or 12 because it's way better than what we've done the last 2 seasons. I mean, Forrest I think Forrest at the moment are pretty much guaranteed. I just wanted March, April, May not to be looking over my shoulder like we did last year thinking of what Sheffield United, Luton Burnley do because that was just awful. Just wanna go to games and relax and know that we're safe. That's what I wanted.

00:55:26

But if if they keep producing the kind of work that they're producing like they did last week and like they did at Anfield, like they did at Chelsea where they should have beaten them, and what and what they did last night, I think last night was the biggest indicator to me that they're capable of doing something quite remarkable. So I might get clipped for I I I didn't know capable of it. I mean, they're saying the European places could go down to 8. Who knows? Say it.

00:55:53

I mean

00:55:54

Yeah. Go on.

00:55:56

10th. Say it. 10th. 1st champion's note.

00:56:03

Sarah, please tell me you're yeah. Come on. 6 maybe, Sarah? 7th? Oh, she's taking the time.

00:56:13

Yeah. I'm quite capable of doing that. I mean, last time we we had this many points. Was it 5th was it 30 years ago or something?

00:56:21

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So

00:56:22

Yeah. Yeah. So, look, it's a tough league. You know, you've gotta win lots and lots of games to end up 3rd a lot. You know, grueling week after week after week, you know, winning winning win.

00:56:33

Yeah.

00:56:34

I don't think we're there because of what the teams are in there. And I and I think, you know, we're all waiting for Man City to come good like everybody's waiting for Forest to drop off. But, you know, once we get safe, which we're nearly there already, aren't we really? Who knows where we'll end up because we've not been in that position before, so we can play with a bit of freedom. So Yeah.

00:56:55

We could end up at we could end up 6, but I'd I'd still probably be happy with I'd probably expect at least top 10. Yeah. Absolutely.

00:57:05

Do you know what, Sarah? That's a brilliant point you just made, though, about you get to that point where they say I spoke to my brother about it today. My brother said to me, 4 wins and you say, that's our Robert for you, not me. And that's not, yeah. He's got a good point, actually.

00:57:19

But you know what? If he gets to that point where Forrest is safe Forrest might think, I'll tell you what. Let's have a crack. Let's wing it. And they might be more flamboyantly.

00:57:28

And and then you just don't know. You know what I mean? So it they what they have done, they they've been a credit to themselves and to the club, and they put themselves in a great position. Who knows?

00:57:39

Yeah. We seem to be getting stronger anyway, not weaker, don't we, at the moment?

00:57:43

Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. Forrest will finish 7th. Said it last

00:57:46

week.

00:57:46

We'll say it again.

00:57:48

And we've

00:57:48

paid all the top teams away now.

00:57:52

Yeah.

00:57:53

Very good point, Sarah. I'm I'm, you know, I'm just re I'm just really hoping that Forrest don't get Champions League because there's a clip somewhere of me on the podcast saying that I've presented the podcast in my boxer shorts or something like that. So that really isn't happening.

00:58:06

There'll be someone who's booked your head. So it'll

00:58:09

Yeah. Yeah. True. I am. Yeah.

00:58:09

Perfect. You know? I could be in him right now.

00:58:12

You never know. Max. Max.

00:58:16

Maybe not. Right. Yeah. That that, that finishes us very nicely. Just under an hour of talking about that.

00:58:25

When we can do these podcasts for we we could maybe do, like, a 24 hour live livestream for charity. That would be better. We could Dave, we could just do it. Me and you, mate, we could just talk for 20 more hours straight. People would love that.

00:58:35

The the the thing is, Max, we talk for an hour. Yeah. But isn't it nice to talk for an hour about Nottingham Forest, you know, gaining lots of admiration, playing great football, pulling off great wins. We've had however many years of, like, having to kind of sift through the wreckage, and now we're into this. And it's just such a joy and a pleasure to talk about Forrest playing well and giving us something, you know, that buzz.

00:58:58

I I I every time I go to the game, I think of the young the young folks, the kids who are going. We've never had anything really to be excited about, and they're loving it, the Littlands are at the moment. I think it's fantastic, mate. Wonderful.

00:59:09

Absolutely. Long may it continue. Dave, Sarah, thank you. Enjoy the rest of your, Sunday evening. We have to start putting a waiting list on people to come on the east part.

00:59:17

It seems like everyone wants to talk about Forest when they're doing well, so thank you, folks. Really appreciate it. Yeah. Look forward to talking about many more wins and hopefully over the Christmas period as well. Thanks for tuning in live to those that have done so.

00:59:29

Facebook and YouTube, keep up to date with us there. We'll have some more stuff over the next few weeks. There's some good stuff as well coming, so stay tuned for that ready for Christmas. And as Forest get another 3 points to place under the Christmas tree, they sit 4th in the Premier League, just 1 points off 3rd and 3 points off 2nd. Hope you've got your passport ready.

00:59:49

Come on, you're out.
