BBC NewsAre you actually getting a good deal on Black Friday? A hair dry from Boots priced at 1899 down from 4999 sounds like a good deal, right? But an investigation by Which found it had never actually cost that much in the previous 12 months. In fact, it found 9 out of 10 Black Friday deals are actually cheaper or the same price at other times in the year. Last year, people spent an estimated £13.3 billion in Black Friday sales, but researchers found lots of products had inflated pre-sale prices to make discounts seem bigger. Boots said that Which only reviewed a very small number of its products and said that its products were at a lower price while on promotion. But it's not impossible to get a good Black Friday bargain. The advice is to always compare prices at multiple retailers and use websites which check the product's price history. Be wary of products that are on sale for prices that are too good to be true because they probably are. And if you're online shopping, look out for scam sites by double-checking URLs and sticking to reputable websites.
