Transcript of Tour guide dies after elevator malfunctions in Colorado gold mine

Now to the deadly mine accident in Colorado. Police say a tour guide was killed when the elevator multifunctioned. A dozen visitors trapped for more than 6 hours, a thousand feet below. They were not told someone had died. Here's Mola Lenge.

Tonight, authorities identifying the person killed in an elevator malfunction at that Colorado gold mine. It's going to be really loud. 46-year-old Patrick Weer, seen here just last month. A tour guide at the mine had a father of one who was a well-known member of the local community. Police.

Anytime you're dealing with heavy machinery in a mine, there could be accidents. And this was a tragic accident.

First responders racing to the scene Thursday afternoon, rescuing 11 people, some with minor injuries, from the elevator, which officials say became stuck 500 feet underground during its descent.

There was some type of an incident with the doors, and at that point, something went wrong. We don't know what caused that. We don't know how it happened.

Twelve others, including a tour guide, stranded at the bottom of the mine, a thousand feet deep for more than six hours, unaware of the fatality, eventually hoisted up in small groups in the repaired elevator. Brett and Rhonda Pulse were among those stranded.

It was just a lot of praying as we went back to the surface. Just please let this get us to the top.

Well, David, officials say the mine passed all of its recent safety inspections, and tonight, the cause of the malfunction remains under investigation, David.
